good day,,well,next to my humphrys audio slo-diezel modded mt-2 and my mont allums recto mod,,it sits perfect.i play a hot rod deluxe,set up with 12at7 preamp tubes so it stayes clean,,i use pedals thru this amp,best set up i ever had,,yes i have a great tone out of my set up,,,,,but hear is the deal,,ive had 5150-soldano-splawn,,,yea yea yea,,i get better tone out of my set up,,and i get great tone in the living room,,and with the band,,,,this pedal is my go to for over the top,,and it delivers tastfully,,

yea,i dont have a small penis,and i dont have to jump up and down,to switch ch either,,but it is plastic

This stomp box is a little monster. I have used it with a Strat and a Peavey T-60. I have never used a distortion box that is more powerful than this one. It will make a small practice amp scream for mercy, and make a 100 watt amp melt the walls. Controls are simple enough for a child to set.

Sound quality is excellent. When you hook it up turn the power all the way down on the box before you turn on your amp. It may make you soil yourself if it is turned all the way up. This is my favorite effects box.

It is made of thick plastic but is still very durable. As long as I have either a power adapter or extra batteries (It does devour batteries fast), then I have total faith in it's durability. If you dropped an amp on it or something you might have a problem.

I have never had a problem with it, so I do not know. I have used it for three years without a malfunction other than batteries going dead, but I solved that issue by getting a power adapter.

This is great for Classic Rock to Metal. I doubt you would need it for anything else. I have been a musician for 30 years. I had a Boss Overdrive and replaced it with the Black Coffee. I misplaced it once and did buy another. For some reason it was hard to find a replacement. I found my old one and gave one to my son who had been begging me for it. I love the straightforward simplicity of the controls. Three knobs...Volume, Bass, and Treble. Even though it is small enough to fit in the palm of your hand, I must stress that if you use one to turn the volume all the way down before turning it on. It might blow your eardrums out. I also got the ignorant idea to try it on a bass. I highly recommend that you NEVER do this, unless you hate your speaker and want to blow it up.

yes i can get the sound from iron maiden to megadeth and i use the
distortion an a washburn flanger pedal and creat amps and the sound
is great.it can get very noisy. it gets weak somtimes but it will still sound good.

i would like to use it on a gig but maybe get a backup.
and i can depend on it.

never i have never got it repaired or upgrade.

i play thrash metal and it is a good match and i have ben playing for five years, a digitec 150 guitar prosseser and a washburn flanger
and a creat 120wat combo amp and i play b.c.rich guitars.
if it was lost or stolen i would try to find one again like it because it is small and my favorite feature is the way is the shape of it. i don't the plastic body.but it makes music.

Very easy to use. only three knobs: gain, bass, treble. Since I bought used over ebay, I did not have or need a manual

very loud even at half gain. Treble and gain together reminds alot of Randy Rhoads tone on the first 2 Ozzy solo albums. i run it through a roland Microcube amp( the small one with all the effects on it) and a Kustom 12 tube amp. It boosts the distortion tremendously. Although I like alot of feedback, those who don't would not like this pedal, especially on the treble setting. Very trebly

I can definitely depend on it but if I had to gig I would have a backup just in case the first one screws up though.

A mix of Black, doom and heavy metal styles with blues, classical, and classic and prog rock thrown in for good measure. Like I said before, this pedal will give you the classic Randy Rhoads sound in a second and suits my style, black metal very well. Those who prefer a downtuned or clean sound will not like this pedal.

You're really a stone age idiot if you think the Black Coffee is hard to use.Very simplistic.Could use a "middle" knob though.But what the heck, the easiest pedal i've ever used.

Master of Puppets(Metallica), Rust In Peace(Megadeth), Dragonslayer(Dream Evil), these are examples of the distortion tone you can get.

I was really surprised with the dozens of tones i could get.

My setup is:

Yamaha AES620 -> Black Coffee -> Line 6 Constrictor -> Boss NS-2 ->
Line 6 Space Chorus -> Boss DD3 -> Marshall JCM

It sounds good on practically any setting.Its has a fuzz like tone and sounds killer when you shred it.This is the ultimate solo pedal.If you switch to the bridge pickup when soloing, its soudns f**ckin cool!!!

When playing rhythm,it is really chunky, especially if your using a humbucker guitar.The Black Coffee is far superior to the Boss MT2.On ANY setting, it produces a fat, chunky tone when palm-muted.The best thing about the Black Coffee is that it gives you a vintage, old-school distortion tone.Unlike those distortion you find in the Digitech Metal Master, which sounds mediocre compared to this baby.

The different settings that i tried sounds fantastic.
Even with the EQ set at low(Volume, Treble & Bass at 9 O'Clock),
This little beast kills.

The settings i like using are as follows:
(the Volume knob just raises the volume so i'll just state the Treble and Bass settings)

For a bright, piercing tone- Treble at 3 O'Clock, Bass at 1 O'clock
Ballsy rhythm tone - Treble at 11 O'Clock, Bass at 2 O'Clock
Violent Solo tone!!! - Treble at FULL, Bass at NOON

Yes.This pedal is noisy, on really high settings(8 treble, 5 bass)
But if you set your effects chain rgt, and utilize a noise gate, the noise could be subdued without any problems.

I read the "negative" reviews.These people surely arent metalheads.They are just posers playing nirvana stuff or something.Stop complaining about the Black Coffee not being up to your standard.This a Metal Distortion pedal.Not for grunge, alternative or other pussy genres.

Oh yes.I've gigged 4 times since i got this baby.
It just keeps sounding better with every amp i use.
Although its entirely made of plastic, its really tough.
The activation button could've been bigger though.

I've been playing guitar for 4 years, my first effect was a ZOOM707II.
I decided to look up on this one as i hate the dist tone on that ZOOM707II.

I will not lose it.I sleep with it beside my pillow everyday.

The Black Coffee is like a small animal that terrorizes the giants.
Initially i had a few choices; Ibanez Smash Box, BOSS MT2, Digitech Metal Master, BOSS DS1 & The Black Coffee.

The smash box sounds a little weak, MT2 is a bit too dry sounding, Digitech is too expensive and doesn't feel right, The BOSS DS1 is very good and is the only distortion pedal that rivals the Black Coffee, but in the end, i chose the Black Coffee as it has more gain.

Very good product, helps me headbang more comfortably.
Buy this, headbang violently, and then have those BOSS MT2 users feeling jealous of you.

3 knobs. bass treble volume simple

my friend had this pedal hooked up to a bronse warlock going into a peavey transtube practice amp and we would rock the house with this thing. yes it can be noise but the key is to turn down the volume on the pedal to about 5 and it will be fine. bass is fair. defentely enough for
so bedroom death rock. nowhere near as much as any of the dod metal pedals. but the treble is wear this pedal really shine. you can get more highs out of this then a death metal or for that matter any metal distortion pedal i've ever seen in my life. so basically if you want the kind of sound were your sliceing of heads rather the smashing then into mush this is the pedal for you. actually more like more high end then any distortion pedal i've ever seen. period

It is pretty easy to get a good sound out of it. That is IF you like fat and razor sharp tones.

This pedal is very unique and had just the sound I wanted. Extrenely sharp!

I wouldn't gig with it unless it had a metal casing.

I play most all Metal. This is a very sharp toned pedal. It is not meant for something like punk or anything.

three potis, level, bass and treble, very small ones, fairly hard to turn but it works. no drive poti though which makes it very hard to adjust the distortion! bad work!

it is VERY noisy, no drive poti to adjust so there is only one mode which sounds like crap. anybody telling you something else has no knowledge whatsoever about a decent guitar sound! there is nothing else to say, get the metal zone or something like that if you want to get a better tone out of your amp!

FORGET IT!!!

the pedal has simple controls level tone and bass, however there is not gain setting and so the amount on distortion cannot be controlled.
the pedal came with a single suggestion for settings (and this was nothing special)

i have used various guitars with this product and used it through head phones , tascam recorders and marshall amps. personally i dislike the sound from this pedal, the distortion is harsh and the amount of distortion cannot be altered and i feel is too distorted.

distortion maybe suitible for solos and extreame heavy metal but it terrible for anything else.

pedal looks good but its small and so might get damaged at a gig.
the input socket for my pedal broke on the inside and so i feel that the quiality is poor however this was a simple problem and was easily repaired with a piece of wire and some solder

i havent tried contacting customer support and repaired the simple problem i had

Very easy pedal, 3 knobs (level,bass,treble), just take a few mins to tweak this like Beast and you can make is sound Huge. Some people say they have a terrible sound, those people are wrong, try this pedal out and you will be surprised.

I have an Ibanez Iceman ICX220 and an Ibanez RG370DX into my Danelectro Black Coffee with a Digitech Death Metal, Digitech X-series Synth Wah Envelope Filter, Ibanez CF-7 Corus/Flanger into a Boss PSM-5 Power Supply and Master Switch. I like the Black Coffe more than my Digitech Death Metal, i use them for 2 diff things, i use the Black Coffee for the heavy stuff and the Death Metal for solo's and ish. This is all runnigninto a Peavey Bandit 112 Transtube. I can get mostly all the sounds of my favs with this pedal(SOAD,deftons,metallica and more). This pedal is perfect, i recommend it for all metal players.

This pedal is cool cuz its small, the only thing is that its plastic, but even so its still pritty tough. The button you step on is tiny and the knobs are small...overall GREAT pedal just TEENY in size haha.

I play all styles of metals and this pedal is great for all of them. Ive been playing for 6 years now, if this was lost or stolen i would MOST DEFF get another one, its an overall awesome pedal just a tad bit too small.

Unlike what most people say, this thing works whisper quiet for me on the humbucker, there's hardly no feedback at all, which is great.

I would absolutely gig with this, because I'm not rough on my pedals. I have to agree though, it's hard to sit on the fact that it's made by plastic components, but still... how damn rough do you have to be on these things? You push the button, it works, and it runs on a 9V battery. Simple! I don't see the point in stomping the Sh*t out of this thing and kicking it around on stage.

I play Heavy Metal, so this was right smack dab what I needed. For 75$ (CAN), this is by far the best pedal I've used. I'm a guy who is used to the boxed in sound of he amplifier itself's distorion, so it makes for one hell of a jump. I strongly reccomend it for anyone and everyone who are into Heavy Metal.

Well... I'm sure there is a use for this pedal, but not in my set. When I think of a "metal tone" pedal, the old Rampage or Metal Master pedals come to mind. The "tone" that you get from this pedal is awful. It's very thin, sizzly, not anything you can seriously rock with. Do you remember those old guitars with the speaker built in and "distortion" effect? That's what it sounds like.

In "passive" mode, your batteries still get eaten up and there is noise added to the clean signal.

The knobs are very thin, one has already broken off while in my gig bag. Overall, the reliability of this thing... you can count on it to always sound like crap.

With a little tweaking, it's pretty easy to get a usable metal guitar sound out of this pedal. And by metal, I mean late 70s/early 80s bordering on hair metal, but that's what I like.

I'm using this with a Strat, Tele and Dano 56U2 and a Fender Blues Deluxe amp, and this pedal makes them all sound the same, so the sound really lives in this pedal. It can be noisy since the distortion seems to be set to 12 internally, but I found that I can control it with my guitar's volume. That lessens the distortion and gives you more control over it. I like the bass and treble controls. For me, what works best is having the bass at 3/4 and the treble at 1/4. Sounds like Van Halen to me. Add a flanger and you're Eddie, without the bad lead singer choices (C'mon Eddie, swallow your pride and beg Dave to come back!!)

Haven't gigged with it yet, but I've gigged with other Danelectro pedals and they're fine. Just don't stomp on them like a monkey.

I play all kinds of music and I like to listen to all kinds. This pedal appeals to my metal side. Not really usable for any other style of music. Maybe for adding a really metal solo to something.

For me, this pedal is easy to get a good sound out of, but then again, this is my ultra gain pedal. The pedal has three knobs, Level, Bass, and Treble.

My setup is Hamer Vector or ESP LTD MH-201 into this pedal, and into my drive 30w SS 1x12 practice amp, or my Peavey Vintage Tube Series Rockmaster 120w tube head with a Laney 2x12 cab. The pedal does have a hum to it and is noisy because of the high gain, but what high gainer isn't. I have, now, two really great and heavy distortion pedals. One that is kinda Mesa voiced, and can go from blues to death metal and beyond (now that's high gain), but I really don't like using it for that. So, using these two pedals makes my amps a nice three channeller rather than a one channel amp or a two channel with a bad distortion. The effects are quite strong and work very well. I can get a vibe of my favorite artists which is a lot more inspiring than having an exact copy of the sound, because having my own sound is always best. My favorite artists are Megadeth, Metallica, Children of Bodom, Anthrax, etc. The reason this gets a eight instead of a ten, is because for those who don't play metal, aren't going to like this. However, I really like this, and I would get it a 10, if only it weren't noisy. Noise pedal would probably solve a lot of problems

I can depend on this, since I dont jump on this thing. Would I gig without a backup? No, I wouldn't gig with it at all. Why? It's a little too abrasive for a band situation, meaning it wouldn't stand out, I dont think.

I play metal. It's a good match for thrash, death, black, power, and other extreme types of metal, but as for hair metal or something, nah. If this were lost, stolen or dead, I would definitely buy another. It's a fun toy to mess around with. If it were more than 40, I would get a Rocktron item. But for 30 bucks, it's a fun pedal to mess with. Also, this gets a 10 because it fits my needs perfectly.

Horrible...I use various guitars, most of which are equipped with Seymour Duncan pickups (and usually hot humbuckers at that). It's not really too noisy on it's own...the tone is just very lifeless and low quality. No mojo. I used this a little on a couple 4-track home recordings, and usually with other fuzzes and distorions for more gain saturation...basically, I used it to create noise.

I've used these mini-danos before and never had any problems. I refuse to give a low rating just for the plastic case

I play a little bit of everything (classic rock, modern rock, blues, experimental, etc.) This pedal is mainly only useful for noisy experiments.

I don't need to worry about it getting stolen 'cause I already sold it...doubt anyone in their right mind would steal it anyway.

I've used a Big Muff, Univox Square Wave, Maestro Fuzz Tone RI, Vox Valvetone, DS-1, Subdecay Stupid Box, etc. etc. etc. The Black coffee is definitely more along the lines of fuzz, but without the character of the Big Muff. Of course, given a choice between the Maestro reish and the black coffee, I'd have to go with the coffee. But I'd take just about anything else over this Dano.

Overall, I sit on the fence with Danelectro products. The stuff they've got is pretty unique and inexpensive. Lot's of low-quality stuff, but once in awhile you stumble across a gem (Fish & Chips, Surf & Turf, Tuna Melt, Dan-Echo, Cool Cat, etc.)...I'd never recommend the Black Coffee to anyone.

As someone strongly addicted to black coffee, I can honestly say I'm offended to have it named after my favorite drink. sick.

It's very simple to use. I'll give em that much.

When I first got it, it sounded good. After continuous use, it kept getting worse. It was really noisy when you weren't playing and if the pedal got a little bit cold, it would'nt even distort anymore. It sounded like a fat guy farting. It was just really bad. I thought maybe I just got a defective one and got different one and I was wrong. Apparently they're all like that. It's just a peice of shit. No one I can think of uses one. (No the battery wasn't dead either. I change my batteries every month and use power sources when in my house.) I also owned a Danelectro Wah and "Pastrami" overdrive and they were just as bad if not worse. They have no character or personality or a decent tone.

This thing is a poor excuse. The knobs all busted off a couple month's after I bought it. The casing is incredibly cheap as well. The fucken thing split in two! It didn't even have a long fall to the ground. The input jacks were also coming apart.

I play metal and this thing just didn't come close. I should have spent like 20 more bucks and got a BOSS pedal when I got this thing. Here's a hint: It's probably not a very good pedal for rock or metal if it's named after food, Black Coffee Metal Distortion? Grilled Cheese Distortion? Pastrami Overdrive? What the hell are they thinking? No serious artist would use something with "Grilled Cheese" in the name. I'm begging all of you not to buy this or any other Danelectro pedal. You'll be very disapointed in the long run.

Danelectro is famous for ease of use, simple, predictable, absolutely no surpises (i.e. move the knob a pinch, gets crazy) here.

Too much noise, just way too much for me to give it a good rating. The only way to cut down the noise is to (almost) kill the treble, which is not good. Sound very dry also.

I could never play this stomp alone & plugged straight to clean channel. The best (& only) way for it to be usable is to use it with other distortion or thru the overdriven channel.

After tinkering with it for a while, I finally found a use for it. For a pre-amp volume/treble booster when you're onstage whipping out a solo and need extra "bite" to come thru the sound of your rythm player(s).

One last thing: It doesn't do well with tubes.

Can't really tell. I've used it about 3 times onstage, but never really "pushed" it to the edge of breaking.

I play Heavy Metal, the melodic kind (i.e. Children of Bodom, Cradle,etc)
Very noisy, ended up being an "auxiliary" pedal, doesn't really do anything special.
Still a good bargain though.

Good way to get a great rock/metal sound, is to keep the friggin treble down. When its up, it sounds like crap. WIth the bass at 6-8 and the treble at around 2-3, you can get a really good sound.

Im using a Tradition Soulster (with SD distortion pickup) - - Seiko Tuner - - Danelectro Black Coffee - - Kustom QUAD65.
Its noisy, relaly noisy. But that can be changed by adjusting the treble, it really helps. I love the sound i get with my new amp, on the old one it sounded like crap.
I dont know who it sounds like, but it kicks arse anyway.

Its in a weak casing, but for the price, who cares. Its all plastic, so dont stomp too hard with it. Id gig without a backup. But always replace the battery before a show, sounds like shit on battery.

I play prog-metal, death metal, rock, and some ska/punk. it sounds good with it, but the distortion is off the charts, so it really suits more hard metal.
I would probably buy someting else if it was stolen, but i like it right now anyway.

Three knobs, volume, bass, and treble. The knobs are very small I felt. It was kind of annoying to try and mess with them and I have small hands for a guy so it must be hard if you have big hands. Bought it second hand from a friend of a friend without hearing it, but it was only ten dollars so not TOO much lost I guess...

When I hooked it up and hit the button with my foot I couldn't believe how loud it was! I was just standing there not playing and this noise from my amp blaring. The noise is just ridiculous. Never stop playing with this thing or people will be booing you off stage. It's also really trebly, which I don't like so it really doesn't suit me at all. I don't know why they call this a metal distortion because I haven't heard any metal bands play somehting like this. Maybe would be good for a Steve Albini sound (Guy who produced Nirvana's In Utero and was in Big Black, hardcore metal band in teh 80's) but I don't know. He has a real harsh, dry sound. It's really harsh and I can't take too much before I turn it off. Not a lot of control I feel from the knobs either.

hmmm it's plastic, so doesn't look too good on this front. Knobs wer wobbly and the guy before me hardly used it either.

It's really cheap but I still wouldn't bother buying it because there is very little usefulness for it. I doubt that many people could find much use for it. Save your money and buy a Boss or something.

Simple enough. Threre isa treble, a bass, and a voliume level control on it. Can get many tones out of it with a good amp. Dont even bother with batteries. Its not worth geting the batterie case open! Just my opinion. Ate up my dano 9 volt like me eating a sandwhich. But thats just because dano batteries SUCK!

Never used a noisier pedal. It sounds great though. The thing i like to do is run it through the overdrive/gain channel on the amp with almost no gain. This gives it an exellent more vintage 70s distorsion. I use it more. The clean channel gives it the trebley metal tones. Another thing is the sustain on this pedal. It can hold notes until the cows come home. It can get some big muff tones with the bass up a lot. One other thing i do is used the guitars voliume controls while the pedal is on. This will instead of lowering the voliume just lessen the distorsion. I have a fender princton chorus and a peavy rage 158. The pedal sounds magnificiant through the chorus with lots of chorus and mid. Through the peavy on the gain channel, i like to set it to a vintage amp model. It gives me 70s power rock like blue oyster cult and led zeppelin. Excellent. Amazing tonal versatility.

Only thing to really watch is the knobs. The level knob broke right off at the stump. TO AVOID THIS, DONT PUT IT IN YOUR GUITAR CASE!! Danos "vintage" metal looking knobs are just reinforced HOLLOW plastic!! Dont stomp on it with a boot either.

Never did send this pedal in tix the knob. However, i did send in my broken dano mini amp. Even though im here in massachusits and dano is in CA, they sent a NEW mini amp within 2 weeks. Very nice! I give a 9 for there annoying press 1 for... phone message thing. Its like a maze.

perfect for ANY music with distortion!!! Through the gain channel and clean channel. Just expieriment with it and your amp and it will definetly surprise you. It goes far beyond a metal distortion pedal! Great for its price. Will match any BOSS or EH distortion pedal anyday

"Pretty freakin Simple to use" is about all you can say about this little pedal. 3 knobs Level,Bass,Treble.I bought it new about 1 year ago (when they were about 40 bucks cheaper then they are now)and there was now actual instructions on it, just a little suggested settings card for all Dano pedals in the mini range.

I have a ElDegas strat-like guitar with a humbuckerin the bridge and a Gibson LP with T500 in bridge and T490 in neck--->yamaha YT-150 tuner--->Black Coffee--->Dunlop crybaby Wah--->DigiTech Envelope Filter Synth Wah--->Marshall MG50Dfx hooked up to a 4x12 slant.
This is one of the most noisest pedals ive ever used!!
but thats not always a bad thing.its like those puppy dogs that are so ugly that their cute.this pedal is so noisy it sounds good.
the effects are strong but you cant ajust the distortion like on the T-bone but the dist on this pedal is set extremely high.When i played this pedal through a single coil strat into a craptacular little 10 watt amp at my friends house I could ALMOST hear a Randy Rhoads vibe and that was the closest i ever got to hearing any artists sound.

The dist on The B.C. is really good and is awsome as a sustainer but is extremly trebley all the time and god forbid you stop playing because the hissing screetching gargleing feedback that comes out of it is horrible at times.

O YES VERY DEPENDIBLE the peal is very sturdy even though it plastic.One time i dropped it off a second storie balcony and it hit the pavement with an awful crash but when i rushed down to get it it still worked and only had a crack in casing.Watch out when you change the batt though witch the black and red wired connecting tha batterie it looks like the might be pulled out easily but as long as you dont yank the batterie out hard it will probably be fine.
I would use it in a gig without a backup because i only swith it on for lead and soloing as it sounds like crap for rythem

i play alot of metal but its not good for rythem just lead and solos. if it were stolen or lost i probably buy another one because i got this one as a gift and didny pay nuthin for it but i dont really know because the price on the dano minis went up alot since they came out.I like how all the dano minis have the knob guard that is removeable so you dont screw up or break you knobs by stomping on them.I never use it for writing music i just use the distortion on my amp for that insted of wasting batteries wehn i dont have to i mostly use it to jam with my band or my friends.It used to bea great deal becuase they were cheap but now they are a little expansive but if you like to play a lot of high treble sustaind metal solos like form the 80's Ozzy,Early Metallica stuff, Etc than this is the pedal for you.

can get a good sound out of it but lack of level/distortion controls to independently cut the noise makes it a drag. use it to beef up a solid state practice amp with the digital/tube emulation dano does so well.

sounds like a fab tone hopped up on 'roids but no ritalin to calm this thing down. for the money what do you expect? not good with a tube amp, like i said, danos are awesome with solid state amps.

with better level/tone controls this thing could be a gem. grittier and more head-ripping then the fab tone, this is cool. distortion harmonics might be better controllable if this thing was upgraded. dano should make some of these mini pedals the full sized brick like they used to, then you could throw them thru the window with confidence.

A pawnshop prize. I bought this because it was cheap and I'm a stompbox junkie. Dont expect this thing to be the miracle metal distortion because it is not. However, it does have some cool sounds.Think of it more as a pre amp treble booster. Run your amp clean, set the box like this:level at 9 o'clock, bass at 3 o'clock' and treble at 9 o'clock. You will get pintch harmonics all freakin' day long with little effort. My unit is not very noisy with the level cut back. The level is output to the amp, not a distortion increase/decrease. I use this only for a lead breaks..dont use it for rhythm..try it with single coil guitars. It will sustain well and it facilitates cool note break-up on long sustains. At this price you can play with it and use it for a unique sound every now and then. Even if you only use it in one or two songs...its cheap

It dont feel real sturdy, it is plastic, but I have other dano pedals that have held up well. Dont beat the crap out of your equipment !

I have been playing all types of music for 16 years. I play lp knock offs, strats and teles, and a toranodo. If you try, you can make just about any stomp box sound decent somewhere, in some song. Buy 'em used, and buy 'em cheap...keep 'em and you will eventually find the perfect song/riff for even what is generally a crappy box...

I play metal and punk; mostly metal. I now have this little peavey amp with alot of effects, and I am currently playing a B.C. Rich guitar (bronze series). If stolen or lost, I would definatly buy it again, unless I could find a cheap Black Licorice.

There is very little sound versatility here, and what there is is very simple. No trouble with the adjustments.

OK, this pedal gets knocked a lot for how it sounds, and I understand that. In my opinion, this pedal has no place in a standard metal player's arsenal. It just doesn't have that metal sound, but I find that it flat-out ROCKS as a psycho super-high-gain fuzzbox for my psychedelic/arty noise stuff. Not something that anyone should use as their main distortion, but a neat little trick, in my opinion. It's thin, fuzzy and noisy as all hell, but sometimes that's a good thing. If you want metal tone, look elsewhere. If you want to blow people's freakin' minds, stick this thing in front of a Dano Backtalk Reverse Delay and play a wacked out solo, making use of the sick sustain this thing gives you.

One trick pony, for sure, but I really dig the trick. They should have called this thing the "Coffee and Cigarettes Fuzz Box", rather than angering the metal community by implying that they sound like this... heh.

Well, it's small and cheaply made from plastic, so it's not gonna hold up to too much abuse, but I never take a backup to a gig. If this thing gave out on me, I'd be able to carry on without it.

I play a mix of Sabbath-style dark stoner rock and modern psychedelic art-noise. This thing has a definite place in what I do. I love those totally filthy trashfuzz sounds that this thing makes, and if it picks up some ethereal radio voices during a psych-jam, so much the better, right? The hum I could do without, never have this thing on when not playing! Overall, this thing is a good tool for making my music, but you have to know its place.

The knobs are small and they wobble. The distortion knob has no range- even at its lowest setting its so distorted that nothing happens when you turn the knob up.

Very noisy pedal. Heavy distortion that has no character and wont clean up when you lower your guitar volume.

It worked a few times before it just fell apart through no fault of mine.

This pedal sucks, and so does the entire Danelectro line of pedals. Its just cheap plastic crap manufactured for teenyboppers who shop at Guitar Center. THis pedal is even worse than the Snarling Dogs pedals!

Very good, a little bit noisey when you ARENT playing but its nothing very annoying just shut it off when you arent using it. For me, through a 200 watt PA system the sound is absolutely perfect for what i need it for playing rock. The sustain is great on both high and low notes and i have no trouble playing pick harmonics (i could only get them about 70 percent of the time with other distortions). I highly recommend buying this pedal if you want to play hard rock to metal.

I just use the AC adapter so i dont worry about batteries, i HAVE used it on a gig without a backup and it worked fine. It's a Danelectro and i have never broken or seen a broken danelectro pedal. Just be careful with it as i would with any pedal.

It's perfect for hard rock. I like it just as much as the Boss metal zone MT-2. If it were lost or stolen i would be pissed and i would definately buy another one, MAYBE look at the black licorice but I would definately go back to Danelectro, and will buy more of their pedals because I like all of the ones i have.

it sounds like shit thru a marshall if it has low batteries, but if you play it thru anything else when it has low batteries it kicks even more ass, its really good for punk and metal and shit like that, youre best off using this with a guitar with high output pickups

i use it with a gibson les paul special w/ P90's, its a good sounding pedal, it wont take much stomping though. i wish it was made of metal. it is a really good pedal and it has a decent price tag- sort of chump change.

Easy to use and edit although keeping all the knobs at 12 o clock is about the only thing I do. No manual but why need one? Simple yet effective.

I run this through a zoom gf707 with the marshall g215 with a dean evo doubleneck (6 and 7 string). This pedal is noisy and I wouldn't gig with it as a result. However it is great fun to use- esp with a 7 string tuned with a bottom 'a'. The effect is a strong one- perhaps too overpowering for serious use. Sometimes it distorts too much a the sound breaks up which is annoying as my amp and guitar are both good quality. Loses tone easily.

this does sound good through my avt50 u get very good harmonics an it screams metal with ma Cort X-2. although i cant compare it to a boss pedal cos i ain played one this pedal is very good sound wise.BUT there is a slightly annoyin hiss not sure if this is true to all distortion pedals. to all those ppl complainin it sounds crap it isnt the pedal its ure amp, if u play it througha 15 watt crate it does suk i know but play it through a valve marshall like mine an it kiks ass.

Well, it's easy to adjust it, I guess, but it's right next to impossible to get a decent sound out of it.

I've tried to use it with an Epiphone Demon FX (GREAT cheap guitar, btw) and an Epiphone Powerbass II, both in to cheap Squier amps. There is not a decent sound to be found with this thing. Utter crap. It hums like a bastard, even at bedroom volume, picks up NPR (hey, at least I can get some culture in while I practice...), and has no bass whatsoever. It also distorts WAAAY to far, and there's no way to adjust it. The only time I can imagine having a use for this thing is to make that Nine Inch Nails superfuzz sound, where your guitar playing sounds almost like static, but not quite. If you want to sound like a TV turned to a non-station, buy this pedal.

It seems to hold up fine to bedroom use. I wouldn't gig with it period, because of the sound, but I don't think it would die if you didn't really abuse it. I'll mark it down for the plastic housing, cheap plastic switch, and breakable-looking plastic knobs.

I play metal, industrial, some classic rock, and some electrified blues just for fun when nobody is watching. This pedal is useless for everything but industrial music, when you want that insane static sound. Trust me, you don't want to sound like that for very long. I really hate the way this thing picks up radio signals and hums, I wouldn't gig with this thing, not EVER. I wish it had some BASS and a way to adjust the level of distortion.

I regret this purchase, and it pretty much just sits on my shelf, not getting used.

Okay...I've used this thing with various guitars/amps, and I can only say this...it sucks balls. Okay, maybe it's the particular one i'm playing with...but I can't say it enough: this pedal is awful. Doesn't sound "metal" to me at all, sounds more like a really high-gain fuzz. They should just rename the pedal "Black Coffee Hi-Gain Fuzz", that's all it is. You really have to have a good amp to even think about saving this monstrosity...it has no bass, even with the bass knob all the way up...and as for that "scooped mids" sound, well, maybe they forgot to scoop my mids at the factory...but this thing sounds like wrecked balls.

Well, it's a Danelectro...sturdy plastic, but plastic nonetheless...I probably wouldn't use it without a backup, I don't like being unprepared.

i personally like the distortion on it because im using a behringer and those have real clean sounds and dinky distortion. this pedal is extremely easy to use and hasnt failed me yet.

epiphone sg, behringer gx210 60 watt. it has a slight noticable hum when you get up to high volumes but thats no biggie. otherwise this pedal is great.

the only way i would depend on this pedal for a gig is if i had the adaptor, in which i wouldnt need a backup or anything.

musicians friend is a great friendly compay, they handled all my needs.

i play all genres of music and this pedal is good for all of them. if this pedal was stolen i would obviously be upset but instead of purchasing this one id probably but the black licorice beyond metal pedal just because it has octave on it and ive heard the pedal and it sounds really good.

This pedal is very easy to use. It has three basic knobs - level, bass, and trebble - so it's almost impossible to get confused by it. It's quite small - about 5 inches - so it's also very easy to carry around.

I am using this pedal with a Squier Strat and a Peavy Rage amp. It sounds amazing for many metal songs. with this pedal it is also fairly easy to get the exact sound you're looking for since theres only 3 settings.

It can ususally be depended on. the only thing to look out for is the battery. This thing sucks the life out of batteries very quickly. However, if you use an adapter it is fine and there is no need to worry. At a gig the only backup i would need is a battery, not the pedal itself.

Overall this is a great little pedal that produces a great sound. I have lent it to more experienced guitarists and they all think that they should have bought one years ago. It is nice and small so you can take it around and is very affordable (new about 50 bucks.) I'd recommend it to anyone looking for a superb metal sounding effect.

Generally easy to use..takes a bit of fiddling with to remove the feedback whistle.

I have played this through a shitty Epiphone very standard very cheap SG and it sucked...but that's what happens when you have really shitty humbuckers and a really shitty guitar. I currently play out of an Excel Strat and have played it through a Squier Affinity Strat. The strats sound really good with this pedal. The effects kick your ass if alternating with clean, I'm playing through a Behringer 1200 Ultrabass Bass Amp. The effect is rather good in all situations that I've used it in.

Yeah, I would say depend on it. I would use it at a gig without backup but then again I would do a lot of things without backup. But if you're using batteries for this thing you better bring back up for the gig. If the light begins to dim at all prepare youself for the horrid problems coming your way.

I play harder rock and punk rock, and this pedal will work good for punk rock if you mess with it, but it's really easy to get a great hard rock sound with this pedal. I've been playing for 2 years and used a few pedals, but single pedals seem to be way more dependable than any other multi-FX pedal could even think about being. I would buy another one of these if it were stolen definitely. I loved the thing that's about it. The only bad side is finding a way to eliminate this putrid whistling noise that will destroy the ear drums of all small infants on contact. So don't mess with this around small children to figure out the settings and how they work for you.

The pedal has simple in/out jacks on the back and a slot for a power adaptor. There are three knobs on the front for level, bass and treble. As well as a pedal switch for turning the unit on. I find this unit very easy to use. The 'manual' is just a piece of paper with one recommended setting for the pedal - this lets it down. If Danelectro should include a range of settings for different sounds and styles.

I use the pedal with my Epiphone Les Paul and a Laney TF300 amp. I also put it through an old Boss envelope resender. I used this fine for about 4 days then I got a horrible interference sound and it started picking up Spanish radio! This is NOT A LIE! The only way to get rid of the interference is too turn down the level - which in turn decreases the volume of the amp.

The battery runs down very quickly. Get yourself a power adapter and you should be ok. But I wouldn't use it at a gig without a backup.

I am a comparative begginer and have been playing for 3 years. I play metal and punk. I have turned to using the distortion on my amp as this pedal is... a big pile of crap. If it were stolen I would host a party to celebrate! Buy a Boss distortion pedal or a Zoom 707-Mk2.

It's really easy to use. You can read the manual to set the sound, or you can easily make new noises. And if you don't think it's easy to use, you must be stupid!

I'm using a 10watt Silvertone and a 15watt Marshall, and a Fender Jaguar. It sounds good for grunge, punk, and metal. The only problem it has is that it makes a shitty whistling noise. If any of you dudes know how to stop it, please tell me!

If you carry an AC adaptor you can surely use it in a gig. Two monts ago I played a two and a half our gig, and it was really realiable. Never play one of those gigs with a battery, I think it will get drained pretty fast.

I been playing grunge and punk rock for about four years. You can get good grunge sounds from it. It realeases a lot of beatiful feedback when you play, it's cool for a guitar solo. Another bad thing about it is that it's made of plastic, I mean, you can't throw it because they break so easy!! They should made metal pedals.

If you're not able to use it, then you are fuckin' stupid. 3 knobs(level-bass-mid), 1 switch. However it's sometimes hard to get a good sond out of it, you just have to turn the knobs until it sounds good

I'm using a Cort X-2 guitar (humbucker pickups) and a crappy Laney HCM15R amp. But it doesn't matter what amp you'r using, it sounds great for punk. I would give it a 10 if the thing wasn't VERY noisy.

I use a Ibanez RG and a couple of samick guitars through a peavy Rage 158 and an old fender vibro champ.It's very easy to get a good cruch,or that ultimate heavy metal sound.

I've had it for almost two months and not one problem,only problem is,dont leavy the battery in or it'll be drained in less than an hour without it even being on(i dont know if thats how it is with every pedal but it got annoying having to replace them,and its also annoying having to take it apart to get the battery out when your finished.If you get this or any pedal,get the AC adapter!

Ive been playing for close to 10 years(and i dont know why i havent bought a pedal till now)and i play mainly older metallica,alot of ac/dc(and while it wont give you anywhere near an ac/dc sound,its a very fun pedal to use to throw a twist on songs with.
If it were stolen i would find the person who stole it,kick there ass and get it back,if i couldnt get it back i would buy a new one.The main things i love about it is,it can give you more all out crazy distortion than any amp ive ever tried,and it has a very good sound for as cheap as it was.Most pedals cost from $60-100+!and since i had spent most of it on a guitar and other crap,i wasnt about to drop 80 bucks on a ibanez(which was the only other distortion pedal my local shop had).Its a 10/10 for a mess around-to-small gig pedal.Im not a super serious giger thats why i only have equipment that fits my needs as something to pass the time at home,since i only play for myself and a few others.This is a good pedal overall.And i would recomend it to anyone.

This thing is awsome for metal. It doesn't have a mid-control, but they sure set the mids in the right spot for me. No distortion knob, so when you step on it-it's always at tear your face off level. I'm using a les paul copy and it really rocks. I know some of the mini's suck, but this is a good one. If you need gain control for overdrive sounds stay away from this pedal. Even backing off the volume on my guitar low it still sounded pretty heavy. I'm giving it a 10 because I finally found my pedal foe metal. Pantera/old metallica/up your ass metal sounds.

It's a mini, so dont beat the shit out of it and it should last. I'm giving it a 7 because of the housing, but if the plastic were metal I'm sure the price would go up.

I've dealt with them twice, and been satisfied very quickly both times with thier service. If it does break- ship it to evets (dano manufacturer) and in a couple weeks they'll hook ya up with a new one.

These pedals are too small... It's sometimes hard to find the pedal on stage (its black, blends into the floor very nicely!) and the knobs are too small to play with between sets.

While using a 56-U2 Danelectro guitar through a VOX AC30, I was extreemly impressed with the quality of this pedal! Especially for its price and size. I will probably never buy another distortion after getting my hands on this. No other distortion pedal has done what this one has done for me and my band. I even convinced a Boss pedal loyalist to go out and pick one up for himself! He no longer uses his GT-6!

The AC jack dosn't suck up my adaptor as well as my other pedals. It constantly comes undone during sessions. Some super glue fixed it though (super glued a daisy chain into it.) I keep a battery in it just in case though. I wish it was a little bit bigger though...

Being a ska, surf, and punk rock guitarist, I still think this is the best distortion I have ever used. I have four other distortion/overdrives sitting on the shelf now ever since I bought this pedal. (Ibanez Super Metal, Boss Metal Zone, Boss Blues Driver, and Boss Hyper Fuzz).

I still can't get over the fatness of the sound and the fun factor has just shot though the roof!

This pedal is awsome sounding, very affordable durable and there is a way around the feed back.. I recomend any metal player to buy one.. Dont waste ur time and money ona zoom 505 II i have one and they suck for gigs..

It's plain and simple with 3 nobs. It's got treble, bass, and level. Doesn't have a middle nob because it's a metal distortion pedal, and there usually isn't any middle settings. Only thing that's a problem here is the battery replacement. You have to unscrew the bottom of it to replace it's not like the dod's or the boss's battery slots that are placed on the sides for convienience. I recommend the adaptor.

I play a Jackson kelly with Duncan Designed pickups through a Marshall AVT 100 amp. If you like the type of distortion that sounds really well palm muted than this pedal should suit your taste. It's that type of cheesy metal distortion that has a ridiculous amount of treble and sounds pretty good with powerchords. WIth the right settings on my amp i can get a Godsmack tone or early Metallica tone out of it. It also sounds pretty good for that Deftones Stephen Carpenter tone as it sounds nice and glassy. Only problem with this pedal is it makes my amp's speaker crack somethimes and i don't know whether or not that's the pedal overdriving the amp or the amp being a piece of dog poop and not being able to handle the pedal.

This is one of Danelectro's Mini pedals and is very small. Unlike the Boss and DOD pedals, this pedal unfortunately is not built like it could survive a nuclear blast. It has a plastic housing with dinky plastic nobs and a metal bottom lined with rubber to prevent it from slipping around on the floor. Unless you weigh 300lbs or above and like jumping several feet in the air and landing on your pedals with both feet planted on the button this pedal should survive many years of abuse. I personally take care of all my equipment and yes I HAVE GIGGED WITH THIS PEDAL. I feel that it's a very reliable pedal as most Danelectro pedals are.

I play lots of Deftones with the band i'm in but I do also like to play lots of Metallica and Godsmack on my one free time. I've been playing for 3 years and i do feel that i know enough about guitar gear to leave you with a well rounded opinion. If you have a solid state amp and want some crazy metal distortion, this is your pedal. If you have a tube amp i don't recommend this pedal because it will make your amp sound pretty bad as the tubes won't be able to handle this. I do love this little pedal and i think it's great for it's value. I've played other pedals like the DOD deathmetal distortion and the BOSS MetalZone 2 distortion pedal. The DOD is the only pedal that gives the Black Coffee some competition. The MetalZone just sucked, and for the price i payed compared to the BOSS, the Black Coffee has a much better value. If this pedal were lost or stolen i would miss it dearly, however i would probably buy something like a line 6 distortion modeler just because i've always wanted one. This pedal is great metal distortion and adds loads of sustain to your guitar. Just log on to Ebay and it's very rare that you'll find someone auctioning off their Black Coffee, however every other distortion pedal is usually a BOSS...now what does that tell you.

Pretty standard, 3 controls - level, bass, treble. i personally think that it sounds great, yeah the bass is not as thick as i'd like itm but for $40 what can you expect?.

Iam running a strat, and an epi les paul (which is totally killer) through a pedalboard, which has my ibanes digital delay, black coffee, dod stereo cchorus and my morley bad horsie. (not nessicarily in that praticular order). and into a randall warhead combo. one thing i hate is if you are running a battery, and you leave the guitar in the input, the battery drains like woah. so i got a power supple for it before i made my pedalboard. the power supply was noisy, ( a simple 1000 uF capacitor in parallel with the power supply cures this) but that wasnt the pedal's fault. if you dial it in properly and play with the amp and shit, you could get almost any metal distortion sound.

pretty reliable, except. i would always use a power supply or bring extra batteries. i would and have gigged it with absolutley no problems

i play almost anything, from stevie ray vaighan to slayer.- whatever im in the mood for. the pedal is sick for metal, but i think it is pretty shitty when it comes to blues, and any regular rock. i have been playing for almost 8 years now and i ownThis is my first danelectro pedal, and also my first metal pedal, i also own an origional dod 250 preamp overdrive. a boss distortion, and the ones i mentioned eariler, and i was not disappointed at all in the preformance of this pedal

This pedal is top notch on ease of use. there's only three knobs, basll, level and treble. Even a beginer could fiddle with it and find a good sound.

I play a B.C. Rich worlock through a peavy 112 bandit/ 112 cabinet. The pedal sounds pretty damn good but its lacking a lot of bass. even with the bass settting as high as it could be on my amp and the pedal it was real hollow sounding, but you can frig around with it and come up with a really good sound. theres a little buzz too but nothing that would bother me.

This is where the problem arises.....this pedal is a battery guzzling whore!!!!! if i were you , i would by a 9v adapter to go with it, it will save you lots of time and money. The pedal itself is made of plastic with a metal base but its still really durable. i've beaten the shit out of mine and it still works perfectly..minus scratches.

i never had to deal with them, but danelectro seems to be a reliable bunch.

my band plays metal (metallica, megadeth, slayer, pantera...etc.) and this pedal is a pretty good choice if your hunting for this type of sound. if this pedal was busted or stolen i probobly buy another but i might look into a boss metal zone pedal first.

3 nobs, easy! Well. No. Its hard to get a good sound out of this pedal. Sometimes I have to mess for ages to find the sound that I need! Although, it's pretty self explanatory.

I use a Epi Les Paul Standard Flake thru an Original Cry Baby, thru my Black Coffee out of a Peavy Bandit 112. When this pedal is good, its fu*king ace! But its hard to get a good sound all the time and sometimes the bass is a bit thin. There is a constant hum, that pisses me off and it is always feeding back. If these were sorted out, it would rock so so much! On the good side, if you dampen with your fret hand and hammer the bitch with your strumming hand you get a a noise that sounds like you are sawing through steel!!! + When the battery is full its as heavy as they come.

I beat the shit out of it jumping on it in true rockstar fashion and its not got any damage apart from a few scratches....... but as long as its in one piece is what matters.

This pedal is good for begginers with small amps but anything bigger its just inferior. I personally have 120 watts running through 2 12's which is plenty big for what i do but pretty much anything above 25 watts this pedal will loose its kick. Perfect for begginers, horrible for real playing.

Very simple

If you are not playing, there is a distinct buzz. You can alter this but the buzz is still there. When you play it, the buzz goes away. So basically I just keep it off until I start a song then turn it off when the song is over. I play it for lead in my worship team at church which is basically a punk type style I guess you could say. Awesome sounding distortion. Sometimes it takes awhile to get a good setting though.

I "gig" it every sunday for church and when my band has shows. I suggest buying the purple case that comes w/ the power adapter, because batteries go away rather quick. You also will have to be semi-gentle with it since its plastic.

For the price, you definately cannot beat this pedal. This is more of a new age type distortion, not like fuzzy stuff. It really screams. It sounds really good palm-muted also. Since I have very little money, I would definately buy it again because of the unbeatable price. I play a Fender Tele

This pedal kicks ass, I went 2 the local store , tryed it out and BANG! I found the pedal of my dreams, i love playing stuff like KoRn, Slipknot, and Disturbed.

I have a crappy Squier strat and a Squier 15 Champ amp but it sounds PREMIUM. At first i had sum trouble with a lil feedback, but roll the knobs around a lil and it should do the trick

I bought it 2 months ago, but now i sold it and going to buy BOSS OS-2 overdrive/distortion.. Me setting was little bass (1/4), half tremble and full level...I had to put valume of guitar to half to play without noise. BIG feedback

very easy, 3 knobs... very simple

for my band, dallas winston, i use a 4x12 peavy cab and a peavy butcher head. this pedal rocks, a little noisy, but is perfect for any form of punk/hardcore or for anyone wanting a good crunch for their band.

this thing rocks, give perfect sound for my puropse...good stuff man...im cant wait to use it again.

3 knobs (Level, Bass, Treble) and a footswitch. EZ. No manual, though but it's not needed.

I'm playing this though a hot-rodded lefty Johnson guitar (tapped bridge and neck humbuckers) and a Fender Frontman 25 watt solid state amp. By itself, that pedal has A LOT of gain. Much more that the T-Bone (I thought that was pretty high gain). The gain level isn't adjustable but if you're going to play metal, you're going to max the gain anyway. Tapping and pinch harmonics are EASY with this baby. However, it has a weak bass response. I have the bass knob maxed and the treble knob at 3 o'clock on the pedal and it's still pretty thin sounding. Fortunatly, I have the Fish & Chips pedal and boosted the bass alot and boosted the mids ever so slightly. Much better. This pedal doesn't sound anything like the T-Bone, it sounds like the Pastrami Overdrive with three times the gain and the mids scooped. This pedal has so much gain, you MUST have a humbucker installed or you'll have a horrible buzz. A noise gate is recommended. It'll keep it from feeding back when you want it to shut up. I'm glad I have one. So, pedal by itself, 7. Pedal with EQ pedal, noise gate, and compressor (keep those harmonics squalin' even longer), 9. Not a very heavy sounding pedal but great for 80's metal.

Plastic casing but it's pretty rugged. I have several Dano mini pedals and they're pretty sturdy. Don't be a 'tard and jump on it and it'll last a long time.

My Chili Dog pedal started messing up so I shipped it back and they sent me a new one. No questions asked.

Not a versitile as the Boss Metal Zone but this does a great job holding it's own compared head-to-head. A great high-gain distortion pedal. Perfect for headbangers or a budget.

Real easy to use, but you can actually get a variety of sounds out of it if you take the time to play with the knobs. Really simple, though.

The sound that comes through this pedal is frickin crazy! It howls and crunches so damn hard! I mean thick, heavy, fuzzed out, crunch-to-the-max lows, and sick, howling distorted sustain on the highs. Very nice. The only problem is that you can't adjust the level of distortion. This thing is on or off. You can vary it a little with your tone control though.

I've never had one of these fail on me, but the fact that it's made of plastic makes me a little nervous. I don't stomp my pedals, so I won't break it with normal use.

For gigs I always put in a fresh battery, because this thing sounds like a fuzz box with the flu when it's low on juice. I'll probably just get the power source and stop worrying about it.

Sounds perfect for me, I play bass in a goth metal/speed metal band and I can just shred away with this thing. I can very closely match the bass sound that Twiggy gets in Marilyn Manson's version of Sweet Dreams.

This thing is exactly what I needed, perfect for my kind of music. If I lost this thing I would go get another, or maybe consider getting the Black Licorice. Come to think of it, I'd stick with this thing. Hell, I can get two for the price of a Metal Zone and go totally insane.

I like this thing so much, I wouldn't even trade it for a Metal Zone. It's just exactly what I need, I can get my sound rockin' right away. I do wish it had adjustable distortion, but that would just be so I could play around a little. I'd leave it cranked anyway.

i play hardocre/metal/hard-punk ( none of that blink 182 crap you hear on mtv ) adn its absolutly perfect for it. never had problem with afeedback couple times but i just turned the volumne knob on my les pual down quite simple solution :) .

long battery life ( i have found out that for best perormance use a dano power supply or a dano battery ) seems prety solid excpet for the knobs but i just broke em of put some nice super glue nd havent had a problem with em ill give it a 9 just cause the knobs

I played it through a fender strat w/ emg's 81/sa/sa through a tech21 trademark 60 and it howled till the cows came home, there is no controlling this pedal, I would put the volume on zero and it still fedback, the effect is great but it is so in your face. and ther is no control...RUDE RUDE PEDAL

I have seven dany's and my bass player has four, I don't smash my pedals so I think they will last ok. Heavy footers should probably go for a boss ,dod, or stringers

First off, me and my bass player have decided these mini dany's are great, they are like Pokeman cards, we buy em and trade em, with one another, you can't go wrong. we play classic/newer rock, we've been together for about six months, I personally do not like it but it definately suits someone else needs, had I had it 7 years ago when I was into death metal it would have been the cheese for my whine. a switch to make it -10 db would be nice... The pedal is extremely easy to use, two knobs and one switch. A trained monkey could operate the thing.

I use an Ibanez RG270 and a Peavey Envoy 110 amp with mine. The pedal is pretty noisey and I know it is used for distortion but, theres a difference between crappy noise and clean raw distortion. The thing sounds like it was cheaply made, it gives off a 60's style hum thats unexplainible. I paid very little for this pedal so I suppose I got what I paid for. Actually to be honost, my amp puts out a better sounding distortion than this pedal does so I don't really use the pedal anymore. My advice to you is not to purchase this item, unless your amp puts out no distortion at all...than this pedal should be considered (if you on a budget of course).

I wouldn't use this pedal without a backup. But, the thing is fairly sturdy. Something about the black plastic makes me unsure of its durability. I don't usually stomp down hard on my pedals so I suppose its gonna last a while for me. If you like pounding on yours however, try something thats more reliable.

I havn't dealt with the company but I am sure they are friendly. The website it quite informative also.

I play alternative rock/punk and this pedal doesn't really help me out at all. I have been playing for 6 or so years and I plan on purchasing alot more guitars gear in the future. If mine was stolen or lost I would probably never know it because i never use the thing. I dont like the sound but it looks kinda neat. Out of all the danelectro pedals I tried out at the store, i chose this one. That doesn't say alot about danelectro. I just wish the damn thing sounded better. I can't believe the average review on this thing is 7.5, I went to the music store and compared the Jack Hammer, Smash Box, and Coffee back to back on a Rhoads model Jackson. #1 The Jack Hammer is over rated for metal. #2 Smash Box was dis-appointing #3 Coffee shreds. If your looking for a modern metal pedal buy this one and as far as feedback the JCM 900 (Over rated) does the same thing, tip= roll the volume knob back.

My style is metal and this pedal is the best I have heard for just searing metal distortion. I have been playing for 15 years. I own a Crate amp, Digitech Rack, Jackson DXMG, I have played on Marshall Crate and Laney amps, Fender, Gibson, and Kramer Guitars, Used BOSS, DOD, Digitech, and Danelectro Effects. I would buy it again if it were lost or stolen. For the price man this one rocks...

3 knobs, input and output, How easy can it get?

I'm just running this little thing through a fender blues jr and it sounds fine. I haven't found this setting that everyone gripes about that it feeds back, or squeals. Try not using a single coil with a distortion pedal, that'll fix it. Now, I use a Fender Fat Strat on the Bridge HB and haven't gotten a sing squeal or shriek. I like the pedal alot for it's scooped mid. If you just sit there for a second and mess with the 2 band eq there Einsteins, it'll sound fine.
But overall, I would have one negative thing to say about the pedal, and that is that it sometimes doesn't have enough bass. But otherwise, You get what you pay for it.

It is made of plastic, and as aforementioned, You get what you pay for.

i run a ibanez roadstar 2 series (not the strat lookalike) through a mashall 50w used amp i picked up at a pawn shop.

Easy to get good metal fuzz/distortion- three knobs, a monkey can use this. you'll have to be careful on feedback though- turning the amp down got rid of the horrid screech, but this doesn't bode well for gigging with it,

I'm just playing into a practice amp with a squire strat (shopping for a more substantial amp this summer- borrow others' equipment for live performances). it won't buzz/screech too much with the amp low. great dirty, fuzzy tone. if you can stop the feedback, this'll be perfect for players just starting out in a metal band. NB This pedal is virtually USELESS if not playing metal. it's your fault alone if you buy it then complain about it not making you sound like hendrix. Got a nice metallica sound with the bass and guitar volume up. not very versatile so make sure you try out the pedal before buying. not that much crunch with level up- more straight fuzz. fun for beginners just learning about pedals, playing in their bedrooms. v good beginner pedal

don't gig regularly, but i reckon i could trust it- if you didn't look though you could snap off the knobs. i like to take care with my equipment so wouldn't do this. i would recommend having a backup though. i haven't really put it to the test yet.

I play metal so this is a god buy- it sounds much fuller than the overrated Metal Zone at twice the cost. i also have the danelectro flanger (scarily good for the money), and borrow a friend's Boss Digital Delay occasionally, for those more spaced out moments. if it were lost, i would get something in the same range, possibly the newly released "Black Licorice". it's a fairly non versatile pedal, but makes the kind of sound i was looking for, so i have no complaints. inspired riffs from the start, but the sound could grate in the future. good for beginners looking to sound better than they actually are. don't write it off because of it's price- that's construction cutbacks, not to do with the sound. I preferred it to the Metal Zone, which was distinctly tinny and underwhelming. no mid range control on this pedal though- it does what it does, and is not versatile. Use in conjunction with the Hash Browns Flanger for some cool sounds. sounds great, even without the bonus of it being so cheap. 'd still like to try that DOD Death Metal distorion though....

This is very easy to use. Push the button turn the knobs. A trained ape could do it. Getting a good sound out of it.... now that's a challenge.

I run this thing through a Epiphone Les Paul on an RMS 35 watt amp. It sounds utterly bad. I mean... BAD. Shrieking highs. They make me want to not play it. I wince in pain and I fear the next time I strum a string knowing that it will cause me great discomfort. There is no meat to this pedal. Just high pitched screeching. It sucks. Really horrid feedback too. I can't seem to ever stop the feedback completely.

No way would I use this at a gig. My amp has better distortion even if my amp does sound a tad hollow when it comes to distortion. I'd leave this thing at home or borrow a friend's Fab Tone. It seems somewhat sturdy though. I doubt I could break it unless I actually did stomp it.

I like to play metal but this just sounds cheesy. I like to play grunge and Metallica type stuff and this does not give me the sound I need. It nueters my power chords and makes them sound wimpy. No growl at all and that's what I want. If you're looking for a screaming pedal that can break glass then this is the one. If you want big growls that rumble the floor get something else. It's that simple really. Great if I want to make a lot of senseless noise, damage my ear drums and get the cops at my front door.... but that's it.

A complete moron could operate it. It's got Level, Bass and Treble. The big downside I found was the absence of the Drive knob, it is always on 10 on this thing. I don't think it came like a manual, probably because it's so basic.

I've tried this with a couple of different rigs. A Dean, a DeArmond and another Dean. The sound was horrible with all of then. It is the most horrid pedal I have ever heard in my life. The sound is so shrill and piercing, I squinted every time something was played. It's pretty noisy, and at high volumes had terrible feedback. A good amp distortion is the only way to go. It took an EQ with maxed out Bass settings to slightly make this even remotely acceptable. The Deans sounded awsome through my rig (a Peavey), and the DeArmond was acceptable also.

If you acctually stomped it, it would be crushed. It's all plastic, and has hardly any grounding, so if you tap the pedal, you hear it though your amp. I wouldn't use it at a gig period, to save the crowd the pain of it's shrill shreiking sound.

I play Metal along the lines of Nevermore, In Flames, Arch Enemy and Annihilator, and this is way to shitty sounding to match any of their sounds. This pedal is a friends, so luckily I don't own one myself. I use either a Jackson DK2, a Dean Avalanche 7 or a Dean V, into a Peavey Bandit, which is connected to a Fender tube amp via the Pre Amp out jack. It is an increadable sound I get with this rig, can go up against my bro's Marshall. If you want a solid metal sound, look elsewhere, try to invest in a good amp, that has a solid distortion. Steer clear of the Black Coffee.

With Prog roc it would be nice to have some variable of gain adjust.
I've been playing for 15 years and own a Boss DS-1, Ibo Smashbox, and a Sansamp GT2 for Distortion. My main amp is a Fender Princeton Reverb pre-cbs mic'd to the board. I need a Distortion pedal that has a mid section since the Pre-Cbs has no mid control. As soon as I find One, It's mine.

Very easy to use...three knobs..If you can't figure it out then maybe you should take up the triangle...

I am using this pedal with a MusicMan 130 2-12 combo, and various guitars..Schecter scorpion, an old Guild s-100, and an old B.C. Rico Mockingbird. I dont know if its my choice of older equipment or what but...I find the black coffee lacking in mid range, and just not thick enough. Its got a ton of distortion...but I don't feel it in my gut like some other pedals when I crank it. Its either a cardboard box, or a bucket of mud. I still wish they would have put a distorion level on there...just to make it a bit more versatile. I like to mix my distortion with my amp overdrive to get my sound, and the black coffee can be a bit too fuzzy at times. Awesome for leads.

Havent had it long enough to tell. I would assume it will stand the test of time because its such a tight little unit.

Overall I would say, if your using older rigs and trying to get a heavy sound, its cool for the price to fool around with and use it for certain parts of songs, but I would not get it for a main pedal. If you are going for the typical Marshall/metal/korn sound you will probably do well.

No manual needed... simple as they come. Has volume, bass and treble knobs which give excellent tone shaping. Does away with the "gain" knob that everybody just turns up to 10 anyway.

THIS THING ROCKS! I just got it today and I've been playing around with it for about an hour. For the last half hour I've been switching back and forth between my Peavey Rock Master (heavey all-tube distortion with great reviews) and the Black Coffee. This thing has just as much gain as the Rock Master and sounds incredibly WARM for a solid state unit (almost like a Rockman). It doesn't have the tone shaping capabilities that Rock Master has, but it is much quieter. I've had to do some difficult listening to determine which of the two I like better. I also owned a BOSS HM-2 several years ago which I got rid of because it was too noisey. If heavey rock is what you want, then this thing won't dissappoint you. No good for blues, grunge or anything else though.

This thing seems built ok, though not outstanding. All plastic except for the footswitch. When my unit arrived in the mail, one of the knobs was snapped off (they are just plastic though they look like metal). I'd use it without a backup, but it really lacks the durability I would like ... handle with care and it should be ok though.

I play Triumph, Boston and other hard rock/metal and this thing does what I want it to (of course I use a Rockman for Boston tunes). I've been playing for 11 years and I've heard a lot of distortion pedals, but this is the best I've seen for the price. This will be a permanent part of my effects lineup and because of it I will debate selling my Rock Master which is about 3 times the price. If only this thing was built sturdier! The sound is amazing! But I'll let you go to the store and try it yourself...

Drive, Treble, and Bass.....easy

This tiny liitle plastic box has a mean GROWL !!! I know you may not believe me but this thing sounds as god as my Metal Zone. Maybe not as much EQ range to play with, but its instant early Motley Crue in a box. There is no mid range controll, only Bass and treble, thats because the mids are permanently set "sucked out" for that scooped out metal sound. Excellent value.....put a mini Fish&Chips EQ infront of it and have a blast.

This is an awsome deal, basically a metal zone for $30 bucks. I've owned $200 pedals and this little plastic box has an awsome tone. Sounds like a beast through my 100w Marshall combo amp.

It's E-Z! THere's no manual whatsoever, but there's not much to do except set the level, then twiddle tthe hi and low until you get something you like.

I'm running a Cort Str@ copy through a Fender Champ. The compression on the Black Coffee is pretty high, my only real complaint about it, so it turns any pickup hum into a nasty squeal. I just make sure I'm running a two-pickup setting for the hum canceling and that takes care of it. If you have humbuckers it should be OK.

If you set this puppy with teh bass all the way up and the treble about 3/4ths, and then through a light reverb, you get a perfect Ramones sound. I run it through a BLT slap echo at a medium setting.

This monster sounds LOUD. Even at 1 through the little Champ, it has a thunderous quality. I haven't dared to turn the amp above 3 yet, the GF almost killed me at that.

Haven't had it long enough to judge. The plastic seems sturdy, though.

I'm a punk-n-blues boy, and this fits the punk real well. Not quite such a good fit for the blues side, it's a little too raucous for that. If I could turn the distortion/compression down it would be more versatile. But it sure is fun!

This stompbox sounds pretty good right away.... IF you're looking for a searing metal type distortion. A blind, deaf, and mute kid could work this thing. It's only got 3 knobs... volume, low and hi. It sounds really really treble-y to me and i turn the hi pretty far down.

I run a BC Rich Warlock NJ and one of those shitty Squier Affinity Stratocasters through it (and that one has a horrible humbucker i put in that came off a Synsonics haha) and it even makes the Strat sound good! It's actually pretty noisy, but i mean with as much crunch as it puts out, there's no way it could not be. With that in consideration, it's quieter than it 'ought' to be.
This pedal will get you a thrashy, balls-to-the-wall, searing, rip-your-head-off, harmonics rich, scooped midrange, crunch from hell. But make no mistake about it... This pedal does one thing and does it well. You cannot decrease the amount of distortion it puts out except by turning down the volume knob on your axe. You will not get a warm bluesy tone. You will not get vintage tube sounds. You will not get versatility from this pedal. That's why it's a metal distortion pedal.

It's made of hard, solid plastic and looks like it could take a pretty good beating. I'd use it with no backup... i mean after all, the amp's gonna have distortion if all else fails.

I play a variety of genres and obviously this pedal was meant for metal. I use it for punk as well though. I like scooped-mid distortion. I've been playing for 8 years (Has it been that long?) If it were stolen or lost, i'd buy it again if i could get it for $10 again from a friend. My only real complaint is that the midrange is not really controllable (but that's not a problem for me) and the bass could stand to be stronger. I can't really think of any improvements it should have. It says 'metal distortion' and that's what it does and does it damn well. But what the hell are you reading this for? Go to your guitar shop and hear it for yourself.

Some people may deride the fact that there is no 'distortion' knob on this pedal, which bugged me until I realized that I always just turn the distortion all the way up anyway, so it's irrelevant.

I'm using a BC Rich Bich & Fender Strat into a Marshall VS65R, and very rarely a Peavy TKO65 (bleargh). Amp distortion just wasn't good enough for thrashy metal. Depending on a setup the Boss Metal Zone may be a better choice with it's adjustable mids, but since I've already got a parametric EQ to fiddle with, this pedal was great. It doesn't sound perfect, but for the price it's an excellent find.

I've been playing guitar for about 10 years...if it got stolen I'd definately buy it again. I'm very happy with the style of distortion...not to buzzy like the DOD Death Metal pedal, but more aggresive than the standard amp overdrive. While lacking some versatility, it seems to have more warmth than the Boss Metal Zone. If it had sweepable mids it'd be rawking.

It's got 3 knobs and a foot switch.not too hard to figure out.

it has alot of static in the background but it could be my amp. but its heavy.

i don't abuse my pedals. but when i had the T-bone the electronics messed up. but it could have been my active pickups.

The sound is extremely wicked. Played through my 300 watt Peavey Combo 300 with the Black widow (yes i know its a bass amp but so is the fender bassman that was used by soo many guitarists)the problem with this pedal is Noise and Bad Noise when used and not playing. But i think this can be taken care of with a noise gate so i need to try it with my ME-30 in the chain. The sound is great! I love this pedal if the noise can be taken out. I can get the great Pinch Harmonics out and make em scream Zakk Wylde Style. Its great. Ill give it an 8 right now because of the noise if the noise goes away with the noise gate its a 20!!!

Havent had any problems besides on my 20 watt practice amp its got too much gain for the speakers and starts to fuzz out the amp.

Its great. Im playing it through as follows : Guitar (Guild S-100, Guild Blues Bird, 75 usa Strat, 72 thinline reissue Tele, Jap Strat with duncan 1/4 lbs and a reverse wound vintage staggard, and a big apple strat), ME-30, Crybaby, (all following are Danelectro) pastrami overdrive, T-bone distortion, Tunamelt tremelo, BLT slap echo, cornbeef reverb, to the Peavey Combo BW 15 (300 watt) Celestion equipped 4x12 cab Crate. Its a great sound that adds to my aresnal of sounds. i would have to buy another if it was stolen. Its great. I like it alot except the noise. but i think i can get rid of that.

The bass control is set too high for my taste. Seems around 170 hz
I would prefer a much deeper bass around 90 hz or so But I can fix
that with danelcetro fish and chips eq

well, on my normal cheap 10 watt I can do anything and get a great sound, but on my Line 6 Spider, I had to sit there for at least 2 hours to tweak it to sound in the least bit good, and I'm still not happy, it's easy to use, but on my spider it took a long time to adapyt it perfectly, I'm still going to give this a good mark cause, just because it takes a lot of tweaking to get it perfect,. it's still pretty goddamned easy to tweak!

UGH, taht's all I can say, on my 10 watt amp, WICKED sound, but on my Spider it has NO BALLS whatsoever, and if I add too much bass, it soudns like a cradboard amp, it truly sounds terrible on my amp, but on my 10 watt it soudns wifked, and I still have a good sound outta it on my spider, but my rectifier puts it to shame

it's hella sturdy, jsut plastic but I treat my stuff with care so it doesn't need to be a tank!

Well, Line 6 Users, don't buy it, or contact me on some goopd settings to get a good sound, I'm going to get a Graphic EQ (the danelectro Fish and chips) and fix it, teh distortion si sweet, nice and bright, I jsut wish I could give it some more balls, but like I said on any other regular amp it sounds fuckin sweet!

a 7 because it's great for metal distortion anywhere, but in my regular setup it's not as usefull.

Pretty easy to use. Its got all of three knobs. Its a distortion box. How hard can it be to figure these things out???

This little box rocks hard. I plugged one of these things between by custom shop Strat and my Mesa/Boogie Mk IV just for the hell of it, to see what the little Metal Distortion box was all about. Much to my amazement, this little devil provided some amazing over the top metal sounds, rivaling my favorite thrash settings with a deep "V" EQ setting on the Mark IV. This little box has surprisingly good sonic range. Possibilities vary from your typical metal distortion to a nice fuzz that's great for solos. Its a very high gain unit, so in some respects its a one-trick pony. At this price level, it can afford to be. Its really quite a bargain, and costing about 1/2 the price of the Fab Tone, its a steal.

This box is an excellent addition to your effects collection if you're looking for the textbook "over the top" metal sound. In comparison to my Mesa/Boogie Mark IV, which can get the sound but requires alot of knob twisting and tweaking, this little pedal provides killer tone with minimal expended effort. I'm so happy with it that I just play my Mesa using the clean channel and use the pedals for distortion.

my guitar student brought this thing over. i hooked it to a fender super 60 & strat combo.big balls of fun instantly.great over the top sounds.i want one now .

dont know, would mount it or tape it down so not to lose it under foot.

i play with some volume & feedback. this is a right priced gadget, kind of a one trick pony , but please dont change the sound.

The ease of use is ludicrously simple; it has three knobs, one for level of the pedal's output (not the distortion itself, only its output level), and one each for high and low EQ.

For having such an apparently limited control panel, though, it does have a pretty wide range of sounds available since the EQ section is very active and makes a real difference. With the controls straight up at 12 o'clock for EQ, it sounds just like you'd expect out of a high-gain metal distortion.

The sound quality is very good; for a high-gain pedal, it has virtually no noise in my chain. Used with both a Fender Deluxe 112 and a Sunn Solos IIA combo, the pedal delivers as advertised with both my Strat and LP copy.

Toy with the EQ range, and you'll be impressed; it goes from straight metal to hollow fuzz if you tweak it right, and interacts well with my many, many other effects.

In terms of sound quality, for what it does, it's a very, very good unit. I haven't heard much better, regardless of price range, but keep in mind that it is a high-gain unit. You won't be getting blues out of it.

I haven't had it long enough to comment (about two weeks), but the complaints about 'will it break' because of size seem unfounded. The plastic casing is very sturdy (better in fact than my Boss FV-60 volume pedal that has lived for years now), and unless you are a total cretin with your gear it'll last for quite a while.

The only potential weak spot on it are the knobs, but based on having owned a Fab Tone for a couple years (and it didn't sound as good as this for what I wanted), and noting the similiarities in knobs, I think it's just paranoia.

I don't see the point; I doubt I'll kill it during its warranty span.

For high-gain distortion, it's one of the better pedals out there at any price, if you can get over what your fellow guitarists will think of you using a dreaded plastic pedal. I don't use it much, but for emphasis or instant gain, it works very well.

For overall rating, I have to give it a 10, since for the $29.99 I paid for it (I ordered a Chicken salad vibrato and this came inside the box!), the unit is an incredible value in distortion.

A little pedal. Little pedal means few knobs. Few knobs means my drummer can play with it and get a good sound.

This little black demon is truely a metal distortion. NOt a pedal for the faint of heart. Like with any hardcore distortion you hvae to watch what you use it with and how you use it. Etc etc. All the basics. Myself, I would still buy the Fab Tone because it has many more tonal possibilities. BUt the BC is great for the price.

The thing about these little pedals is I "fear" they will break. They haven't yet, but the fear is there because it's just so little. BUt it has been strong as hell so far.

Danelectro is a great company for customer support. Period.

This pedal makes a great addition to any effects setup. It sounds great but it's cheap enough that it won't leave you hungry for a week or two. If you can't get a Fab Tone and still want some hardcore distortion, this one is for you.

Three nobs Level "volume" Bass, and Treble so its very easy to use.

I freaking love the sound that comes out of this little pedal. It's truely Metallica distortion REALLY and if you dont believe me go and try it out then you will buy one. I own the Fab Tone tube distorion from Danelectro which is $30-$40 more expensive and I would rather play with the black coffee distortion. I also use the Fish and Chips equalizer by Danelectro also and i get great sound. Right now I'am pushin it through a 15 watt DOD grunge distortion and I love the sound out of that piece of crap so think of what it would do to your Marshall or Crate whatever it is it'll be scary.

I have not had it but a Month but it is still going stronger just like when I first opened it up. I would defenitly use it live.

I play metal like Metallica and this is the sound I was waiting for. I would really whoop ass if it was stolen. I want to buy a thousand of these little things just to be safe but you need mula to do that. The only downside of this pedal is the size of the button to stomp it's pretty small.
