I picked up this thing for $10 AU on eBay. It only has 2 knobs but it's not easy to dial in a good sound. Mix knob controls wet to dry mix and high cut rolls off the top end sound of the effect the more you move it clockwise. Rolling off too much of the highs weakens the effect but there is a sweet spot around 2 'o'clock where you get a nice balance.

All right. This is not a great sounding reverb on its own. Nor does it sound anything like spring reverb. But it does sound better in an effects loop with the mix knob on max and some high cut engaged. The hi-cut rolls off some of the inherent tinkey electronic sound. It sound like garbage if you run it into your amp's front end. It is technically a reverb pedal; as the echoes do sound dispersed to my ear. And if you turn an additional delay unit on in conjunction with the Corned Beef you'll notice this echo dipersion more. I tried the Dano with a Moen Pretty Dolly Delay set for around 250-300ms of delay with minimal repeats and it really brought this the reverb effect to life. You can also get quite a decent slapback going but you can't control the feedback for one discrete repeat which is what true slapback echo actually is. But I have a Dano Fab Echo for that task anyway. This is not their best pedal; but it may be useful for recording. Like blending it into the effects mix of a song for example. Or, just for a more whacky, unusual guitar tone. It sounds pretty good with another delay unit on top of it just to strengthen the sound of the effect which is rather weak and a bit electronic sounding by itself.

Well...I bought it s/h and one knob had been broken off and reglued on by the original owner. I managed to fix it by fabricating new pot shafts and knobs from plastic tubing and small scale model tank wheels respectively - all held together with gel-type super glue (cyanoacrylate). I think these Dano "food-name" pedals are rather sturdy, although the knobs are susceptable to damage (obviously). Just look after them and you'll be fine.

I play lots of styles and have always loved the sound of Fender spring reverbs. This pedal is not capable of achieving that type of sound by itself. With another delay engaged it does sound closer to that though. For the price I paid I can't complain about it. But it isn't really a very inspiring piece of equipment and not as good as I have come to expect from Danelectro gear which I usually like a lot. Maybe okay for someone on a very tight budget who wants to add a small amount of wetness to a dry amp sound. Not too bad for slapback effects too.

2 knobs
mix- turning it clockwise will give you sound from reverb to slapecho delay type at max setting
hi-cut- is just a reverse tone control

The verdict!
1. Very limited reverb/delay sound spectrum. Mix below 12 o'clock is un-usable or is very weak. The sweetest spot is at 2 o'clock mix for the reverb and 3 o'clock for the slap echo
2. The hi-cut knob is has a very subtle effect and barely unnoticeable. The sweetest spot i could use is from 7 o'clock(zero) to 9 o'clock.beyond these setting will weaken the reverb effect.
3. Reverb type is vintage so don't expect this one as a big ambient type like church or stadium like.
TO finalize
my amp doesn't have a reverb so I purchased a used one for almost 1/3 of the price

wow everybody. who thought fake reverb can sound so bad? it's just a silly slapback delay, and that's what it's good for. a lo-fi crappysounding slapback. I have my fun with that. putting it in front of an autowah works great for some really funky staccato reggae chops, but that's about the only use i have for this pedal. or for creating total noisechaos.

It doesn't sound terrible, it just doesn't sound like a reverb. Think Mr Spacely's reverb from the Jetson's! No way to adjust the sound for a good reverb. It's a short repeat, electronic sound, not a reverb.

I would not use this thing. Someone could use it for a different sound but it would not be a sound that you would use frequently.
Funny thing, I have five other Dano $15 effectd and they all work fine, some better than others, but all quite usable.

Easy to use, although on initial use the hi-cut confused me - the higher you set it the shorter the reverb gets - its labelled correctly, I'm just used to getting more effect when turning to the right. No manual required.

Initially, I was dissapointed as it seemed to be too close to a slapback delay instead of a flat reverb. I'd characterise its sound as a slapback delay infront of a short reverb. I put it infront of a marshall jcm800 head - and I love it. It reminds me of Beatles abbey road or playing in a large bathroom. A very engaging sound. Does not remind me of a Fender reverb, due to the strength of the delay repeats. I put a long dealy in front of it and the combination is very pleasing - kinda has a ducking effect and smooths the edges off of the dealy. Does not add much noise.

I had to write this review after reading the review from "myself" who said that this would be a good pedal for a "nashville imitating guitarist in south dakota" As the president of the Nashville Imitating Guitarists of South Dakota, I take offense to that! Actually, I laughed my ass off.
As for the pedal. I never bought one, I've tried one three times at the music store. And I honestly could never tell if it was on or off. I couldnt hear anything.
So the verdict is, NO, it's not even fit for the Nashville Imitating Guitarists of South Dakota, lol.

My favorite singers are Carrie Underwood and Shania Twain.
(Dude I'm hilarious!)
Seriously, don't spend (?)$ for the nothing that this thing does. Thats stupid.

I have a few different compinations I use the pedal with, the bottom line to the whole thing is, I keep wanting to not like this pedal, but then every time I use it, the little punk sounds bloody great; I mean it's got this silly little 40's retro styled case and is named after a piece of meat!!! However, I won't try to say that it gives the tonal equivalent of a vintage Fender Dual Reverb, but hooked to a little Mesa Subway and a decent strat, it does have a very pleasing vintage garage kinda sound!! This little pedal seems to be way better than the pittance Ipaid for it, and that's a godd thing, which adds considerability to the like-ability factor.

I paly a crazy mix of celtic/punk/metal/garage/industrial/retro. I've been playing, well longer than most of you folks have been alive!! If it was stolen, I'd hunt the bastard down and flog him/her (as the case might be, hopefully her for the flogging!!!!) and tell them to buy their own, I mean they don't cost that much. I would probably go out and buy the pedal again, unless I felt rather flush with cash and wanted to go top end. I bought it on line because a friend had loaned me the Mesa Subway amp which didin't have reverb. The pedal was cheap and so am I so it seemed a good fit. The end result was a very plesant suprise, the thing pretty much worked as advertised. I didn't really compare it to anything else, just bought it because it was cheap. It's easy to use, cresates a remarkably decent spring reverb sound (close anyway), doens't create any extra major hissing or other distracting sounds that would make it a nusiance and seems to be fairly well put together. So in closing, You could easily spend 2 or 3 times as much and not get any better!!!

When I'm taking about sound quality I want to make it clear I'm talking about reverb quality for surf. The reverb sounds very artificial. If you want to play quality surf music, I'd recommend poning up a little more money for a quality reverb pedal like a Digitech Digiverb.

This may be just me, so read the other reviews as well, but my corned beef reverb pedal had a lot of problems. Whenever I played any notes low on the neck, the pedal would make the amp create this hideous high pitched shriek, and I'd have to turn off the amp. I was paranoid everytime I did a slide of any kind. Months later the thing stopped working completely.

I play surf music and you can't play surf music without lots of reverb. The Dano corned beef pedal was the first reverb pedal I ever owned. It was fine for awhile, since I was only a novice guitar player and didn't ever plan to play infront of anyone. If you are a surf guitarist I would strongly recommend you do not buy this! Buy a real reverb unit, a Digitech Diverb or a Holy Grail (they are good from what I hear) instead. This dano pedal may be cheap, but if you are willing to put up $50-$60 more, I recommend getting a Digitech Digiverb or a Holy Grail. If you aren't a surf guitarist, you may like this pedal so don't judge it based on this one review.

I am using a Guild AD-50 acoustic with a Seymour Duncan Tube soundhole pickup (Which is great by the way). This goes through the same Marshall MG 50 amp that I use for my SG and Tele.
I thought it was a reverb. Was I wrong. Actually, let me re-phrase; I thought that it would be a digital style, Hall-type reverb. I was wron about that. It has a real vintage-y slapback thing going on. Boy was I shocked.
It can be a fun pedal f you can reconcile with what it is. It is not an ambience-type reverb. At least not to me it isn't. It can create some pretty sweet slap-back, shower sort of effects. I'll give it an 8 because it's no Electro-Harmonix product, but it makes some cool sounds if that's what you're looking for.
Something that I forgot to mention is that it has almost no hiss, pedal noise, or tone coloring. It's not a hard bypass, but what do you want for 30 bucks new or 5 at a garage sale?
Reliability
:

It is pretty reliable. It is plastic...It was made by Danelectro...It did only cost me $14 on sale...Come on now though...If you wanted something that you could jump up and down on, go get an EH or Boss pedal. This is good for small stuff. ie. chruches, club gigs, cd release parties, etc. I would gig it without a backup, because if it does break, I take it out of the chain and no great loss.

I think that it's pretty cool. Neat sounds for electric and acoustic stuff. It is what it is though. You want a really nice hall reverb, got get an Alesis rack. If you don't have reverb on your amp, you can tweak this into giving you a little rounder, wetter, and fuller sound. You can do some pretty cool stuff with it. Good for indie rock, surf stuff maybe, all sorts of different sounds that need a little quirk. The main thing is that you have to realize that you ALWAYS get what you pay for with musical instruments and gear. For 10-30 dollars, it probably won't change the way you think about guitars. It will add a little quirky coler however, and that can be fun.

This has mix and hicut only. Very easy!
There is one interesting thing about hicut . . . as you turn hicut, delay feedback value also decreases. It means that delay repeat times decrease.
It is easy to confirm that. If you turn both mix and hicut to full, you can hear only one echo. (It's a kind of doubling sound.)
Sound Quality
:

This is not reverb but delay. This can not be noisy at all. You like this or not is depended upon your preference.
I suppose if you love spring reverb sound, this may not be for you.
But practically, for live usage, audience can hardly tell difference between this and spring reverb. Because reverbrant nature of room will reduce taste of solid state delay.
I bought this recently, because my Polytone amp has broken reverb.
Direct sound from speaker can not be the same as spring reverb, because this is solid state delay. But I think this is not so bad.
I sometimes use this with another delay (PB&J delay of Dano) to get Metheny like doubling + delay sound. Corned beef Setting is mix=2 o'clock, hicut =full. PB&J setting is mix=10 o'clock, delay time=minimum(in long delay mode), feedback=1 o'clock. Connection order is Semi/full-acoustic guitar => Corned beef => PBJ => Amp.
If you try this setting, you can confirm Corned beef can add warm & rich doubling sound to PB&J delay.

I guess Dano designer must hate to manufacture substitution for conventional spring reverb.?@He must challenge to make something new.
It is interesting that currently Dano has three small stomp delay boxes, Corned beef, BLT and PB&J. Dano must give different concepts to these three. I think Corned beef is so so, PB&J is excellent, and I have not tried BLT yet.
Considering its price, this is not so bad. I can use this for live/gig.
If this is broken, I will try BLT of Dano, or I will repair reverb unit of my Polytone Amp.

Very easy, very clever settings: mix and hicut. It means when you have a lot of reverb you can cut its harshness(or strangeness if such a word exists) and when you have almost none you can make it present in another way, cute dano!
It is an analog device, with high consumption. I don't like the fact that it doesn't accept more than 300ma 9vdc. It will smoke and die if you don't respect that, I've learned it the hard way.
So it's not that easy to use, go check your transformer wattage before gigging... Stupid dano.

I like it! Soooo much!
I also hve a digiverb and two tons of reverb processors(aalesis, zoom, behringer, yamaha) and nothing comes close. Think weird spring crossed with slapback analog delay. Unique!

Of course no hard bypass but who cares since it's always on?(like compressors, once you have them every sounds lame without!)

when I had this, i used it through a variety of tone sucking, bad sounding effects into a cheap amp (which I continue to use today; i said it was cheap, never said it sounded bad). this reverb sounded more like playing your guitar in a shower or a bathroom. the hi-cut knob may have well just been decapitated from the unit, as it does absolutely NOTHING. Believe me, I tried to hear a difference.
The mix knob is self explanitory...dry/wet, if you don't know what that means, may I suggest asking someone to tell you about it. At about 9 o clock you could get a convincible "furnished room" sound with minimal bounceback, 12 o' clock was like an empty room, 2 o' clock can get you a cheap imitation of a hall reverb, anything past that is pretty much gigantic shower/stall/bathroom/really long drain pipe reverb.
from what I remember I think I used it consecutively for the first two weeks I had it, then I pretty much never used it again. Only sparingly did I turn it on. When it came time to sell my effects, the Danelectro was next to go right after my Zoom 505II. Now that I think of it, the Zoom had better reverb than this. That's pretty sad.

OK, it isn't really what I wanted, was too echoy and I found it hard to find the right spot to get what I was looking for. I am used to the built in spacy spring reverb units and this one doesn't really give it to you. It is more of a reverb/delay hybrid I guess.
One thing to note is that the hum mentioned below is due to crappy power supply. I bought one and this pedal produced a horrid hum but then agin so did the Boss and other pedals. I bought a Danelectro power supply and the hum went away in them all.
I use it at the end of my line of pedals for my electric axe and it operates OK. \
I ran it as loop back reverb through the PA and found it to be too over the top for that. Became very delay like when strong sharp sound put through it. Long constant tones where fine but short harp tones do the horrible delat thing.

I'm running an Ovation 6-string Acoustic (seriously) through a Semour Duncan Woody into a Fender Acoustasonic 30. It can get a little noisy, so play with your pedal sequencing to minimize/eliminate hum. A lot of the other reviewers really seem to bash the quality of the reverb, but when you consider the price, I think it's pretty damn good. If you want an expensive sounding reverb, buy an expensive piece of equipment. Again, I can't stress enough that the Corned Beef pedal can be a bit tricky, be prepared to spend a little time getting to know this one.

2 out of every 3 reviews of Dano products I've read here really stress "the plastic this and bad switch that." And, yes, it's plastic. And yeah, Dano stuff is cheap. But, I've never had one go out on me. I've gigged on the Corned Beef numerous times and it's done great. I've had it for about 4 months now and I practice on it 3-5 day a week and do about 3 shows a month. I don't beat the heck out of it, but I also don't treat it like it's made of glass. My problem is when you buy something and it say's "reverb", you expect "REVERB". This is not a 'reverb' pedal, what this does is imitate's (not very well)reverb by using a very short slap delay effect. O.k having gotten that of my chest, this can be a bit of a cool, quirkey effect if thats what your after. I was after a reverb pedal, but I suppose you get what you pay for. Anyway, for the money I'm giving this a very generous 6 out of 10. oh almost forgot to mention the hum you get when using this pedal. Apparently it does'nt hum if you use a Danelectro power supply. I've got a power supply!! I should'nt need to buy another one!!!! Changed my mind I'm giving it a 5

I agree with the previous reviewer that this pedal shouldn't be compared to high-end rack-mount or plug-in reverbs. It's "reverb-like" in the manner of older non-spring reverb processors. However, I bet folks who buy it without trying it first, expecting a pristine, lush, smooth-tailed reverb, are going to be disappointed. My bet is that if you work with it long enough you can find a sweet spot, yet because of that it's not all that easy to use. Yeah, you can easily turn the knobs, but certain other Dano mini-pedals sound good no matter where you set them. This one doesn't.

I'll help to offset the bad reviews, too. We'll get to the reverb sound in a minute, but first ==> no discernable sonic coloration to your unprocessed signal, and no hiss or other artifacts. It's a very quiet pedal, and that should count for something.
The reverb sound is metallic-sounding at worst, and at best, tends toward a subtle multiple-slapback. That's right, you can hear distinct rapid echoes of your original signal, more and more as you increase the Level control. The Hi-Cut control does reduce how noticeable the repeats are but you'll always hear them unless you turn the Hi-Cut all the way clockwise. Then, the effect seems to disappear entirely (huh?). I thought I heard actual "smooth" reverb in-between the repeats, very low in volume, but I bet that's my aural imagination. And I suppose that's just what Dano was trying to do, make a cheap pedal that fools you into hearing reverb from a pile of quick repeats.
So instead of scrutinizing the reverb sound, just set it and play ? indeed you, your bandmates and your audience will hear a non-dry, reverbed sound. Alternatively, exploit the pedal's dark secret to your own advantage ? for instance, you can easily coax a realistic bathroom-slapback from it. Or front-load it with a metal distortion pedal and dime it for some sonic otherworldliness. Remember, players from the 60's and 70's never expected anything from their pedals beyond "it makes my guitar sound different". But now we clamor to pay top dollar for those same rusty pedals, because they have "personality" compared to our mass-produced digital wonder-boxes. Ah, the irony !!

Probably good enough for bedroom or garage-band use. Obviously not made to be abused, but mount it on a board and it will probably last forever. I doubt anyone will be depending on this pedal for critical performance or studio work, so my reliability rating is relative to how it would typically be used.

Overall, it's just a weird pedal with its own kind of mojo. After two weeks of using it I've found two good settings and I can imagine finding more. Like many, I got this for a small home amp that didn't have reverb. It fits the bill just fine. If you can get past the alternative-reverb approach, you may find ways to like it. If not, you can at least sell it for close to what you paid.

Dont bash it because you dont understand it. i agree that maybe it should be labled something else possible corned beef slap echo / reverb but i have used many other vintage electronic reverbs and the sound is almost identical.

this is where people do all of their bickering. I don't understand why. Perhaps they do not know how to use this pedal correctly? It's not going to pop out at you. It doesn't have HALL and ROOM and PLATE reverbs that you can switch to just like your rackmount effects or your Boss pedals. This pedal may take some time to get used to, but I really like it. The Mix knob takes you from a small room reverb all the way to a "drain pipe" reverb. The Hi-Cut knob reduces the effect by a certain degree. It doesn't cut the effect out, like many people think, but it softens the effect so the effect isn't so harsh. I can use this reverb for almost anything. Many think it's a pedal for surf and rockabilly. I play alternative/hard rock, and it works great for me. No complaint here, but since it takes some time and patience to get the sound you want, it gets docked a point.

It gets a nice watery thick reverb sound. I play a mix
of blues and rockabilly and it works good for that. I think it blows
away some of the other pedal that cost 4-5times of much. For a fraction of the cost of a boutique pedal you get that fat cool wall of sound feeling. I love the way it sounds, I am surprised this
little pedal wails the way it does. You can coax some really cool
sounds out of it, ulike other reverb pedal that do one thing only.

This isn't really a reverb pedal. It's difficult to put a finger on what it sounds like exactly, but reverb is not really what comes to mind. If you replace a speaker cone with a disposable pie pan and add a little slap echo, then you have the tone of this pedal.

Easy to use ... Controls are a bit touchy (but so is the reverb control on my Dual Showman Reverb. I just wanted some fill and don't changes the setting so, yeah, easy to use for me .. set it and forget it.
What pissed me off, however, was having to buy the "Zero-Hum" 9V power supply for $10 more (learned later after buying it). Couldn't daisy chain the Boss supply. This thing only works with that supply or hums like a bad snow tire. Battery-only is fine however. Don't like to deal with the extra transformer, power strip etc....

For the $20 + shipping I paid on e-bay (Plus the subsequent $10 for Danelectro's damn power-supply/transformer I had to buy to stop the hum), just what I needed. But wasn't expecting much more. Works great with my 1957 Gibson 335 and even better with my 50th aniversary American Texas Strat ...

it sounds o.k. by itself. but there are little fast echos that seem to take away from the plain effect of reverb. i was not thrilled with it at first, but when i stuck it after a flanger (flanger set to the chorus type sound thats better to me than a real chorus) i was surprised. its just a beatiful glassy tone. if i could give a review of these 2 combined it would be 10. its not noisy. i'm using a les paul-copy going to dist, flanger, reverb, amp. it does sound decent with distortion (just use the hicut to tame repeats). all i'm saying is try mixing it with another effect.

It's easy to use, but I'm deducting one point for the fact that the hi-cut knob needs a bit of playing with. Sure, it's obvious enough what it's supposed to do, but it takes a while before you get it into a good "starting spot" for tailoring your sound.
Oh, and I was surprised there was no manual. Not that it really needs one, but I like reading manuals! I guess it's from owning so many DOD effects where the manuals actually try to make you laugh....and I'm always easily amused....

I am personally not overly impressed. I'd like to hear what this thing would sound like if it weren't for those weird delay noises. It might be quite a lush chorus then, but what's with those delays?
I'd give it a lower rating than I have, but the thing is, Dano do market their effects as being retro, and that's what this thing sounds like. It reminds me of the vocal reverbs on old ballroom rock songs. I was hoping I could get a modern sound out of this, since it was the only reverb within my price range, but I can't.
Oh, I use a custom telecaster with a guitar50 amp (Fane speaker) and a bunch of other effects. The reverb went completely over the top when I combined it with flanger, and it just didn't go well with the kinds of distortions I was using. It would work a lot better with the flat, boring picking clean-boosted riffs from ancient rock music that I just can't force myself to like.

I got it used, I was happy at the time. Like someone else said, it's better than no reverb at all, although I daren't ever turn the mix higher than 12 'o' clock because of those cringe-worthy retro delays.
I'm going to flog it on eBay because I got lucky and found an amp within my price range that has reverb built in. As long as it has no stupid delays in it, I'm sure I'll prefer it to this.
I'd still like to try some other Dano mini-effects. I still trust Dano because I liked the Fab-Tone and the Cool Cat is probably the best chorus I ever heard. How will the mini counterparts sound? Hopefully I'll get to find out some time.

Ditto again. Can't get a true reverb. Playing an early Gretsch Double Anniversary or an early fat Gibson hollowbody with a single P-90 through an ancient Magnatone with 2x10's and an equally ancient Epiphone with 1x10, I get a lot nicer, fuller sound using a BLT Slap Echo than the Corned Beef. I also get a great sound with the Tuna Melt Tremolo, but I like to give it just a little reverb. That is where the Corned Beef Reverb works really well for me. The tremolo must mask the annoying echoes of the reverb because the sound is perfect for me. It just fattens up the tremolo and gives it a little wetter sound. The BLT and Tuna Melt sound like crap together no matter what I tried, but the Corned Beef sounds great in this application, and ONLY this application in my experience. Ten with the trem, 2 for everything else.

My crappy setup is as follows: guitar (right now either a Washburn WR-150, or most likely a Washburn BT-3 that will be modified soon with Seymour Duncan pick ups), DOD FX-66 Flashback Fuzz, a Laney GC-30 amp, then coming from the send of the effects loop, a crybaby wah, and the Corned Beef mini pedal. It is not noisy other than the noise that it is supposed to make.
If you are going to get this item do not expect to get your normal reverb settings out of it. My advice if you want a normal reverb is to get a footswitchable amp with built in reverb. No artist probaly uses this and loves it as much as I do. You can make some very unique sounds with it. This pedal is a force to be reckoned with. After toying with it for a while you can find your own personality in it. It is great.
My favorite setting is mix up all the way and hi-cut down. This allows me to create some rather odd sounds (which I will not share). The most normal that it gets (as in sounding like an actual reverb) is mix up (full clockwise) and hi-cut up (full clockwise) but it still doesn't sound normal. Some people are absoluteley going to hate this thing. I give it a ten b/c I think that it sounds cool.

It is made of plastic, but it is small enough so that it doesn't matter. A little lesson in structural engineering. The less space an object has in it, the harder it is to break it. That isn't available in any text book it just makes since to me in explaining how tuff it is.. Plus the sides are thick enough (as you can see when you take off the bottom plate) that it looks very strong. I do not beleive that it would break by me stepping on it. I would still have full confidence in it after throwing across a room or something like that. I don't beleive that it would work after taking a sledge to it though.

One of the genres of music that I write in is experimental hard core and this works out great for it. The sound is very unique. I don't beleive that I will have to buy an echo b/c of this. I have been playing for a year and a half. If it were lost (which might happen considering how friggin' small it is) I'd go buy another one (they're only forty bucks). If someone stole it I'd be incredibly raging pissed, but I'd still shell out the 40 bucks. I did not compare it to other products at the time that I bought it b/c it was the only reverb pedal in the store (and I'm glad that it was, b/c I might not have discovered this marvel if I would have tried something else.) It definitley helps me create.

It is impossible to get a really reverb-like effect from this thing. There isn't much variation at all. The sound reminds me of a delay which has no provision for time lapses. What you get are rapid repeats fast enough to imitate a spring reverb at about 30% success. Has two knobs, neither of which does much to cure its built-in limitations. So, yes it's easy to use, so is your guitar's tone knob.

The effect seems to be too strong or too weak. There is one setting I find to be better than nothing and that is with the hi-cut almost all the way to the right (nearly off) and the mix barely on. This is the setting that produces the least amount of effect, and that's what you want with this thing; the least effect.

I use this for my Vox Pathfinder since it don't got reverb. This sound brings back the late 50's. I use a Rickenbacker 330 and man, it sounds great for recording. No big time noise on this unit. I use it also with a Real Tube overdrive. Get some crazy noise out this baby.

I only tried this in the shop so it was guitar-->corned beef-->amp, which was all I needed to find out how bad it was. 2 sound options, the effect of hitting your guitar against some metal pipes and the effect of playing your guitar in the show.

It's super easy to use; "MIX" for effect level, and "HI-CUT" to totally turn the effect off as you turn the knob clockwise ...(huh?). Comes with a 9-volt battery. For ease of use then, I suppose it would be a 10.

Oh my gawd! I'd just bought Danelectro's little battery-powered amp, the "Honey Tone Mini Amp" the other day, and found it to be so cool that I figured I'd add me a cheap reverb to it. So I came here and read all the reviews first. Then I went to the local music store and tried all the mini pedals out for about an hour, this reverb being one of them. It sounded pretty much like all of the reviews said. I expected a cheap sounding toy, because of the price. I bought it anyway knowing full well what I was doing. I got it home and played it through my little HoneyTone battery amp, and after about 5 minutes, found myself actually getting annoyed by the dumb-ass echoing "repeats" that it makes! I thought that I would be able to put up with that in order to get some real cheesey ambience, but instead it just frigging annoys me because it destracts me from what I'm trying to play. This is always the case no matter what the settings are. And speaking of settings, what's up with the "hi-cut" control? You can turn the "mix" all the way up, but if you turn the "hi-cut" all the way up, the echo disappears almost completely! So, I'll rate the sound a "2" only because the "mix" control works.

Uhm, ...yeah- tell me why it's so hard for anyone to make a cheap, useable stompbox reverb unit. One reverb, a level control, and a length control, that's all I ask. It doesn't have to have halls and rooms and plates. It just has to be one stupid reverb that allows me to adjust the level and the length. I'd even pay $75.00 for it for gawd sakes! MAKE ONE FOR ME RIGHT NOW, DAMMIT!!!

Any style of music doesn't matter with it. The Corned Beef Reverb is just simply corny. I would venture to say that every review given here on this unit is going to be bad. I paid $40.00 plus tax, and it's just not worth $25.00. All the other effects are worth checking out because they all at least DO what they claim to do. This reverb however, does not, because it's an echo. It's a half a tad better than using a delay unit with short repeats, but both are annoying when you just want reverb. Anyway, I think some of the little distortion boxes were cool. But, I think I'll bring this back and trade it for a "BACON AND EGGS" amp box and a pack or two of strings. My recommendation: READ ALL THE REVIEWS, GO TRY ONE FOR YOURSELF, AND THEN BUY SOME OTHER PRODUCT INSTEAD. It's a worthless unit that will probably be discontinued once the word gets out enough that they suck.

Two Knobs, plus one on the back that opens the bottom panel (that was the trickiest one). How hard can it be? Even I (bass&drum player) can use it!
Unfortunately, it's almost impossible to get good sound out of it, but if you do find one, that'll be the only one.

I tried it with American traditional Fat Strat going to a Laney 15W tube amp. A nice, warm and dynamic sound. The amp has no reverb in it so I thought a dash of good ol' reverb would suit there just fine. In fact, I still think so. It's just that the Corned Beef is actually NOT a Reverb; It's some sort of a delay. Now if I need delay, I'll buy a delay unit or a multieffect processor. Now I just needed a good reverb and this one is nothing like that.
Now I do appreciate the one usable sound you get (mix at about 3 o'clock), but I can find that and many many more sounds in some other DELAY unit.

While having only two knobs makes this pedal easy to use, the fact that nothing happens no matter what setting you're at makes the whole thing a huge headache. I'm using this pedal with a Vox Pathfinder practice amp, which doesn't come with reverb. This pedal doesn't come with reverb either. I can't beleive I wasted $50 on this piece of shit. I can detect slight (hardly any) traces of delay (NOT reverb) when singing through a mic that is plugged directly into my four-track recorder. Through the amp? Forget it.

Hey Kids, I forgot to mention one little thing in my previous submission. This here Corned Beef 'Reverb' might just be a DIGITAL delay. Probably is.I mean why not!?! (Some of you might be saying, "No kidding, ya Ahole!)Why would Danelectro spend more time and money making this thing out of discontinuing analog type chips and complex finely tuned circuits when digital is smaller and cheaper? What threw me into the analog bit was the sound. Also, you know, it used to be, new digital delays were more expensive than seemingly at the time cheesy lower quality analog delays(Memory Mans, Bossinez, etc.) Now every body loves analog again (with all of it's vintage covetedness), and the cheesy stuff is all digital because it's easier to build now. So pardon my slippage. Yes, I saw the insides, jeez, what was I thinking?

They sure know how to shave off them highs. Whoooeeee!!! Why the hell didn't they just make a cheesier DanEcho? Something with alittle more versatility? The other BLT cheese delay I think is also fixed at one delay time. I mean, at least the tuna trem has a variable speed.

Boys and Girls, this is not a "reverb". It should not be called that. Shame on Danelctro for doing so. This pedal is a fixed delay time(slapback repeat) analog delay. The 'mix' knob controls how loud the repeats are, which also has an effect on how many repeats you end up hearing. The second 'high cut' knob reduces treble from the echoes, which also kind of affects how many repeats you'll hear. It is a cool, useable sound but it's not a reverb. This has only a quick stuttering echo. You can get this sound with your garden variety bossinezmemorymanad9 analog delay if you already have one. Some newer ones even have some EQ on the echoes. Like the DanEcho. This thing pretty much does one sound due to it's fixed delay setting. Save your clams if you want real reverb. The Little Lanilei reverb currently wins the 'spring reverb in a pedal' prize. How can I rate this thing? If the sound is what you want, it's ok. The knobs may be a problem for bear paw type people.
Sound Quality
:

Like I said, it sounds alright for all it is and the cost. Careful where you put it in the chain guys and gals. Like all ANALOG DELAYS(or reverbs) the mix knob will be touchy if distortion follows. But I hate the way delay sounds after distortion. The high cut knob remedies that 'processed' distortion before delay sound. So hey, you might dig this. I must also say that I tried the Tuna? tremelo and it sounded pretty good. Difficult to adjust once again.

These are about the cheesiest things I've ever seen. Hard to say how they would hold up. I didn't get one. Some lads are having trouble with the switch buttons falling out or something. For the money though, they allow those on a very low budget some half decent effects.

I just think they should not confuse or misdirect anyone, experienced or not, by calling this thing a reverb. Even Electro Harmonix had the sense to call their similar fixed delay time pedal a Slapback Delay or something like that.

Well, who has time for this anyway. I had to post because no one else has come right out and called it as it is. The least they could have done is include an additional delay in the circuit and cascade the repeats or fix slightly different delay times on each one. THAT would sound alot closer to actual reverb. It seems no one has actually created an analog non spring reverb.(Help me if I'm wrong) They always go straight to digital to make solid state reverbs. I'll bet a multiple bucket-brigade delay reverb would sound really good.

Well I checked out one of these things in the music store yesterday and after reading these reviews I felt compelled to put in my two bits. This is the worst reverb I have ever heard in my guitar playing career. It is nothing less than a delay pedal set to a very high repeat rate. No springs here. I tried to get a reverb sound out of my Boss analogue delay repeatedly over the years, in hopes of solving the dry-amp problem. Anyways, the result with this unit is the same: a tinny echo-ey metallic delay that simply kills tone. I have heard better reverb out of all the practice amps I have ever used, including bottom of the line Crates and Randalls. When I plugged it in for the first time, I kept fooling with the chorus knob on the amp, trying to turn it off so I could have a clean tone to put the pedal ontop of. Then I realized that that awful chorus sound was coming from the pedal. I told the salesman that it was the worst reverb I have ever heard. He said he could have told me that before I tried it. And this is coming from a commission salesguy!

I know there is a definite need for a reverb pedal unit out there. Since the only real choice out there was the fender reverb tank uptil now and the Boss delay/reverb pedal, I was very excited when I heard that Danelectro was coming out with an inexpensive reverb-only pedal. So many amps (Marshal JTM, Fender Showmans etc) lack reverb and tragically so. However, this pedal fails so miserably in what it is meant to do, that I suggest to whoever wants reverb, to avoid this pedal unless you do not care about your sound and want to piss people off. I'd rather play dry than run this thing.
In sum: Good idea, bad execution.

Right now I'm using my Corned Beef into a Danelectro Nifty Fifty practice amp. I have a better "gig" amp (Fender Blues Deluxe) with that nice Fender Reverb and I wanted some reverberation on the Dano. I am using it with a moded Mexi Strat w/Rio Tallboy pu's and many other effects including a 535Q Wah, TS-9 reissue, MXR Phase 90, Milkbox Compressor, DOD Juice Box, and Dano Tunamelt Tremolo, Cool Cat Chorus, and Fab Tone. This is not a "fender" reverb sound, thus the 8, but it is good for filling out the sound of the practice amp.

Well, as I said this is a good way to fill out a practice amp's tone. It suits my need perfectly and for the price, I would definitely replace it if lost or stolen. My only beef with the "beef" is the screw on the case to put in the battery. It's kind of hard to screw out with my big fingers. But that's my only complaint, over all it's a great steal of a pedal!

I use the following Amp: Marshall JCM 800 50 Watt Head (2140 i think...) and Marshall JCM 800 4x12 slant.
The effects on this little guy are very noticable. There is however a true-bypass liek quality to this pedal. It doesnt seem to change my tone at all, i really try to use gear that will manipulate my tone only in a positive way. It is also easy to dial in a variety of tones from this thing, I like it a lot for its warmth and analoge tone. Although it isnt a replacement from a spring reverb, like the one i used to have in my Ampeg V4, this thing is still great.

I would buy another in an instant. Never compared it with anything else, but reverb pedals are hard to come by. It helps me make wonderfully strange sounds while still sounding organic and natural which is very important to me. For the money(Or lack there of)this thing Rules - it's a must add on for small sub $100.00 Amps that don't have Reverb built in, which is just about ALL of the ones available! It would also be PERFECT for somewhat bigger Amps that really SHOULD have Reverb - but don't, e.g. the VOX Pathfinder. Not to mention the fact that this is by far the least expensive add on Reverb you can get - and I'd feel kinda silly spending $250.00 to add Reverb to a $50.00 Amp! I don't think it'll ever be stolen, 'cuz it's so small, you wouldn't notice it, but if it was, I'd get another, for the price, you can't beat it with a stick.
It definatly adds a warm character to my Squier Guitar and Amp Rig, I've always been pleased with the sound - but now they REALLY have that famous vintage Fender tone to them! Overall a great effort - Book 'em Dano!
