Ease of Use : 8
Pretty simple controls -- Master Volume; Switch for Intensity (sine wave or pumped up square wave); a switch for Harmonic Shape (left is darker, right is brighter); and On/Off stomp switch.

Really interacts with guitar volume control. There are lots of sounds in this box (the box is so ugly it is really cool) giving one a really rich, deep fuzz to more stinging tones (the kind I usually dislike but could grow to like).

Sound Quality : 10
Great. I went looking for a fuzz/distortion/overdrive pedal -- wasn't sure what I was looking for exactly. Read a lot of reviews and narrowed it down to an AC Booster, various Maxon units, and a few others to try. I played the AC Booster and was about to get it when I saw this ugly looking box. Plugged it in and found a pedal that really sounded good enough to take it home for a serious tryout (the shop accepts returns within a few days).

Death By Audio says it is a "raging fuzz pedal." It will rage, but it's capable of some cleaner/subtle sounds as well.

This is a big improvement over my old Big Muff (although that had been the one pedal I haven't found something to replace it). It will also replace a couple of tube units that are nice, but just don't have the range and flexibility of this.

Don't know if it's true bypass -- I'll take the battery out sometimes and see what happens -- but it sounds very good switched off. I don't like tonesuckers.

I like my distortion kind of dark (without a lot of piercing highs), but this pedal also sounds good with a Tele bridge pickup. But for my stuff, it's best with the neck pickup.

I really like it. There's no digital crap to ruin the tone and it really is rich sounding. It'll feedback wonderfully at high volumes.

It can get a little noisy, but I think I can work around that.

I'll see how I feel about it a couple of months from now, but I don't have any doubt it will be used a lot. Really, really cool.

Reliability : No Opinion
Should be reliable. Box seems pretty sturdy, and the knob and switches feel strong.

The one I have only runs off a battery (I guess an adapter that hooks up to the battery connection gizmo will work if needed).

Customer Support : No Opinion
Haven't needed it.

Overall Rating : 10
I really feel good about this fuzz/distortion pedal. I've been trying various ones for some time, but haven't found anything that could touch my tube units or Big Muff. I haven't had it very long, but I was getting some good material for songs while playing it. Playing through it was an inspiring experience. Too cool.

Death By Audio's site has some sound clips, but you really need to play this for a period of time to appreciate what it'll do. Haven't tried it yet, but apparently it works well with bass too.

It is a little expensive. I might not have bought it at the new retail price, but I was satisfied with the used price for something this cool.
