Ease of Use : 8
This is fairly easy to use. There are many sounds that can be dialed in on this pedal and you need to do some tweaking to find all of its possibilities.

Sounds on one channel will become drastically different if combined with the other channel.

Sound Quality : 9
I am using this with a Warmoth Strat with Lollar Blondes. Variety of amplification and direct box set-ups.

Variety of other pedals.

I love the raw, touch sensitive, fuzzy, slightly dark quality of the overdrive of this pedal.

The Germanium diode clipper doesn't radically change the sound of the right channel. It seems to make it a touch rawer and louder.

The sounds possible on the left channel vary quite a bit though they are clearly variations on the fundamental Interstellar Overdriver tone.

Many variatons can be dialed in through the use of one or the other channel plus both combined.

This pedal has many possibilities but they are all variatons on that basic overdriver sound. You can get sounds that are cleaner more fuzzed, or lo-fi but there is no tone control, though I really like the way this is eq'd. The thin drive and bass drive have interesting possibilities especially when combined with the other channel. I would find the bass drive mostly unuseable by itself (way too muffled) but combined with the overdriver circuit on the other channel it leads to a very bass heavy overdrive that has enough high end to be useful.

The envelope controlled trem is interesting and I found the most useful sounds when combined with the other channel. I could get sounds where the trem would start at various points as the sound decayed.

This is a pedal that could find use in electronica, shoegaze, and post-rock contexts. The basic overdriver circuit is a good, slightly dark and raw overdrive and could be used for raw blues or rock. The options on the second channel would have more limited appeal to many outside of the genres mentioned earlier.

You might listening to something like "Black Grease" by the Black Angels to get a sense of what this sounds like.

Reliability : No Opinion
I don't know yet.

I have heard many negatives about the quality control of Death by Audio products.

So far so good.

The guts look fine to me.

Customer Support : No Opinion
I've not tried to reach them.

Overall Rating : 9
I play experimental psychedelic post rock and electronica. Perfect for that.

I would buy this again.

This is the best overdrive I have played though I certainly haven't played everything out there. Suits me far better than the Menatone TBIAC I had before I got this.

Tone controls might be nice but I do like the eq as it is.

This thing is extremely musical and you just want to keep playing it.

I've had this now for 3 months so I think I am beyond any kind of honeymoon period with it.

This is a pedal I will always have.

Normal Interstellar Overdriver with a diode clipper and one with 6 radically different options combined in one pedal. Both channels can be used simultaneously or independently.

Simple to use, there are master and drive knobs for each channel as well as a normal/diode clipper switch and a 6 position selector knob. Just plug your guitar in, tweak and play.

Sound Quality : 10
This pedal isn't made to get someone else's sounds. Oliver makes these so you don't sound just like some other guitarist. It's about sound design and creativity.

The effects included are great, with the exception of one - the "bass drive". Maybe I just have no need for it. Not sure. As mentioned above there is a standard Interstellar Overdriver channel with a "normal/diode clipper" and the other channel includes:
- thin drive
- normal interstellar overdrive
- bass drive
- super fuzz
- octave fuzz
- envelope controlled tremolo
I really love the normal, super fuzz, and envelope controlled tremolo. By simply tweaking back and forth between the master and drive knobs you get some radically different sounds.

I play a US Tele & Gibson Les Paul through a '65 Twin Reverb with a variety of pedals. This pedal is the first one in the chain. I don't notice too much noise while using it and I believe it's true bypass. The drives always sound fresh and invigorating. I have a Fulldrive 2 as my other drive pedal and these two are night and day.

Reliability : 8
I haven't had a problem with it but Oliver says that even if you run this thing over with a truck he'll fix it for freeeeeeeeeeee! Because of the price of this badboy, I'll unfortunately have to gig without a backup. But my pedalboard case is pretty solid and this thing is made out of friggin' steel. Not too worried.

Customer Support : 10
Oliver is incredible. The guy is great about getting back to you on email and is really cool about working with you. He answered all of my questions and once the pedal was finished, he next-day-air'd the thing out to me. Plus, as mentioned above, he'll fix this thing for life if anything happens!

Overall Rating : 9
I play music that lives somewhere between Radiohead's OK Computer and Kid A albums. So there's some electronic and rock aspects going on. This thing is great for sound design. Get your own sound rather than trying to emulate someone else. This pedal is a great match, but would work for almost anything that needs an overdrive or fuzz.

I've been playing for 12 years and own loads of pedals, amps and guitars.

If this were stolen I would make a dash to my daughter's, my wife's, my neighbor's, and my piggybank, smash 'em to bits, and buy this pedal again.
