Two channels- volume and selection knob from 30-50. Couldn't be easier to use. Your mother could use this.

And I was a skeptic. In the price range, it's very difficult to beat. I bought mine on Ebay for around $600, and it makes a vocal stand out. A little pretentious and jangly on acoustic guitar, but only tried 2 acoustics, neither of which were stellar.
Absolutely outstanding for vocals, and getting a rich contemporary sound.
Reliability

No Opinion
It's built like a tank so far. The one thing about it that concerns me is that there is no internal cooling, that exists in newer electronic devices. Thus, the machine gets extremely hot, but no mechanical difficulties as of yet, knock on wood!

I can't say enough about this machine. If you see one of these rare pre's on Ebay, snatch it up. For vocals you won't be disappointed. I have not yet tried any drum applications, and I really didn't fiddle with the settings for acoustic guitar. I've heard they are both very good.
You can't go wrong with this item no matter what style you perform in. I say it's best for jazz, blues, country - the soft melodic styles, because it is very warm. However, it has the presence and strength to stand up in heavier stylistic contexts.
