Volume, Distortion and Tone knobs, how easy do you want it to be. I advise you to play with these knobs cause there are a lot of sounds you can get out of this pedal.

Sound Quality : 10
I was a bit confused when I first saw the pedal. The bad 1980's look and it was called 'Very Metal'.
I do not think you can get a good (modern) metal sound out of this pedal. You can get a fine overdrive tone to a lovely sounding distortion out of it, but I like the fuzz tone the most. This pedal has a very good sounding fuzz with a lot of gain.
I use it with a Vox amp and a Fender Jag-Stang (with a DiMarzio humbucker). There are use more pedals in mine chain, but the Very Metal is not noisy at all.

Reliability : 10
The pedal has a solid metal case. I do not think you will kill it that easy.

Customer Support : No Opinion
I don't think that you will need the customer support. And if you need it, I don't think that the people of DiMarzio know that they ever sold pedals.

Overall Rating : 10
Wrong name for a bad ass pedal. Get one if you can cause they're getting rare. I like to play punk, noise and alternative, and this pedal is great for those styles of music. I like the fuzz tone a lot.
I used a lot of distortions, overdrives and fuzzes, but the Very Metal is the best I tried for sure.

volume, gain, tone.

Great sounds throughout the gain knobs range.

The knobs look like white les paul knobs and are number 1-11! Awesomeness!!!!!!!

This is a very nice sounding pedal. It is "true bypass" with the dpdt switch no LED method, so no tone suck.

I do not agreed with the person who said it has only one sound. It has many. At lower gains it has a tubescreamer thing going on. As you turn it up you will start to get that texas tone; ZZ-top type of tones (reminds me of the Barber edge hog). At the higher settings you get something like a big muff with better clarity, but still fuzz like.

The idea of "metal" tone has evolved a lot over the years i think. Maybe this sounded heavy metal in the early 80's. By todays terms i think it would be more along the lines of a heavy Weezer song or Green Day. If you want to get the early Black Sabbath tones, or old Motorhead tones this should cover that. that's about as metal as it gets.

Calling it "VERY" metal is a bit of a misnomer. Has a good amount of output so maybe it could push an amp into metal tones when combined with the amps own power tube distortion, but you would need to get the "scooped" sound from the amps EQ or an EQ pedal because it is more of a mid range distortion. Maybe it would make a good lead boost for metal. I don't play metal, so i'm not really qualified to judge. I've heard of Metalica using tubescreamers and yngwie using a DOD overdrive so maybe this is more metal than i realise.

Old school build quality. circuit board is very thick and the trace is coated with a layer of solder. Full size pots. The footswitch is huge on the inside. By todays "boutique" standards it better built than z-vex, barber etc...

Call them up and say "hey, did you guys know you used to built a distortion pedal?"

As a pedal junky i could not pass this up because of the dimarzio name. It is surely destined to be vey collectable. I didn't really expect it to sound good and didn't even care if it would, but the pedal surprised me and actually ended up getting used a fair bit. Great hidden gem of a pedal.

3 Knobs - Volume, Distortion and Tone - easy to use, but perhaps not so easy to get it to sound 'Metal'.

The knobs go to 11 which is 'very metal', but that is the most metal thing about it. I do think the marketing boys got confused when they decided to name it.

Sound Quality : 10
As a metal pedal I'd probably give it a lower score - but as a fuzz pedal its a 10. It does a creamy fuzz which works beatifully over a tonal range from zero to max. Easy to shape the tone with the tone control from cutting but still musical fuzz to a more 'brown' tone - and also loads of sustain as you would expect from a fuzz...

To give full credit, the pedal works as a distortion for crunch rhythm quite well (a lot of high saturation pedals don't) so has some versatility in there if you bother to play around with it, but the fuzz sound is what this pedal is all about and I doubt most people would try to get a crunch tone out of it even though it is in there.

Reliability : 10
It is well made, cast metal box, solid as any other make as far as I can see.

I'll rate this overall as a fuzz pedal and for solo fuzz, this thing is very musical and I recommend I recommend it for styles that need a creamy smooth fuzz.

Volume, distortion, and tone controls. Very easy to use.

Sound Quality : 10
Huge, thick, very high gain fuzz.If you turn the distortion knob all the way up, it's almost too much gain. I prefer to keep it at around
8. Not very much variety, but the one sound it does get is absolutely great. And it's not very heavy metal at all, although you can palm mute with it. I would personally prefer not to.

Reliability : No Opinion
I've only had it for a few days, but it seems extremely sturdy. All metal costruction, exept for the knobs of course.

I listen to portishead, sunny day real estate, radiohead, modest mouse, pavement, the rapture, death cab for cutie, although it doesn't sound like these bands' distortion. Very thick, and it looks hilarious. The perfect pedal.
