Ease of Use : 9
Doesn't get any easier. Set the gain knob from clean boost through to chewey overdrive, tone knob to taste and the on/off volume to the right subjective level. Blue indicator LED is on/off when the effect is on/off, just like most others. Pedal can be powered by a standard 9v PP3 accessed by the flap underneath, or by a usual 9v, 2.1mm negative centre, DC power cable.
Instructions on a single A4 sheet give a good explanation of how the controls work, how to create a tone and a few examples to try.

I'm using my Mexican Tele into a Hot Rod Deluxe loaded with low gain tubes, I also have a Korg DT-10 tuner always inline and a few other pedals when I fancy it - a Boss PN-2 as a Tremolo and a Boss DM-3 Analog Delay.

This pedal is ace. At low settings it works great as a clean boost or to give the preamp a kick up the arse - the sound is chewy and just makes everything much more musical. Muted strings and rhythmic, choppy chords just jump out at you and I feel so much more confident as a player! At higher gain settings the sound is much more smooth and creamy like a TS808 or a Boss SD-1 but with more bottom end.

It seems pretty quiet, even on the highest gain settings, and has no switching 'pop' sound. It doesn't seem to 'suck tone' when off either.

Reliability : 9
Only had it a few weeks, but seems quite hefty. I think it's made of cast aluminium (doesn't stick to a magnet?) which must be quite thick as it weighs about a kilogram. Looks and feels like a tank, but we'll see how long it lasts.

Got it directly from the Diago website at www.diago.co.uk I bought one of their Gigman pedal boards a few months ago, saw this on the site and liked the sound samples, so took the plunge. #45 including next day delivery (which it did) and comes with a 30-day money-back guarantee and a 12-month warranty.

Not had any aftersales service as such, but emails are helpful, friendly and reasonably quick. Let's hope that if anything goes wrong that they're as responsive.

I'm definitely considering buying some of their other pedals, although I like to keep my rig as simple as possible. After playing for 10 years, it's nice to be able to find a great sounding piece of gear that is easy to use (I don't need 100 different sounds, choice is not necessarily a good thing) and doesn't cost #150 because it's boutique - i.e. someone has hand soldered and assembled it - WOW! That'll make it sound better....!!

Overall, the best soft overdrive I've tried so far; it's a keeper!
