Very easy to dial in a good tone, comes with both silicon and germanium transistors, you can mix and match, fun.

Sound Quality : 9
Like most fuzz boxes these can pick up radio frequencies at times, I mixed the transistors with good results and only on the highest fuzz settings did I get any noise, not really a problem. I run it through a 3 amp setup using vintage Fender and Vox amps with great results. It also works well in the chain, almost any position.

Reliability : 10
Mine is 5 years old and never a problem.

Customer Support : No Opinion
No opinion here but I hear Diaz company is helpful.

Overall Rating : 10
I have several pedals and really nice Hudson "Stroll On" fuzz and the Diaz is one of my favorite of all time, very responsive and has the "Feel" you play the pedal with your guitar, I use Strats and the single coils really work best with this fuzz, I shopped for many fuzz pedals and settled on this one and it works great with the "Stroll On" really thick and warm, sustain for days and not buzzy sounding like some fuzz pedals and they can be bought for little money on e-bay, well worth the price, actually a real bargain, highly recommended. If I lost it I would get another. I have been playing for 42 years and I would keep this pedal if I could only have a few and I have had them all.

- How easy is it to get a good sound out of it?
Two knobs, how's that?

- How about Editing patches?
This is analog, baby.....nothing to edit here

- How is the manual for it (if there is one)?
Two knobs......I doubt you need a manual to figure it out.

- Do you know the firmware revision number?
Yeah, the "firmware" says Diaz

- Has your unit been upgraded?
No need to upgrade the Diaz Texas Square Face Fuzz

Sound Quality : 10
Best fuzz pedal I've put my hands on, and I've been through a lot of them lately. In fact, the Texas Square Face sounds so good that I've bought a second one in a different color a couple of months after I bought the first one - just in case they stop making them or something goes wrong with the first unit (or gets stolen etc.)

Have owned or still have Fulltone's ('69, '70, Soul Bender), Dunlop (Red & Blue new Hendrix Fuzz Face), Lovepedal 200 lbs, Throbak (Fuzz Haze), Colorsound (Jumbo Fuzz), MJM (London Fuzz Ge), Electro Harmonix (Muff's), BYOC fuzz etc.

While the other mentioned fuzz pedals above don't sound bad, none seems to have the mojo and vibe of the Diaz Texas Square Face Fuzz. It's also worth to mention that both of the Diaz units sound pretty close, absolutely killer and both "have it" (something I can't say about some of the others where I've been through more than one pedal of the same model).

Also, both Diaz pedals DON'T use the hyped NKT275 Ge trannies and still sound better than any NKT275 Fuzz I've owned/tried. This indicates me that with the fuzz face circuit, the trannies may be important to some extent, but a great deal of the final result/vibe/mojo must also have to do with other stuff like a) the circuit/trace layout and b) the other components used (resistors, caps, wire etc.).

Side note: Diaz Texas Square Fuzz pedals come with both a pair of matched Germanium and Silicon transistors and the board has two sockets, i.e. you can change them on the fly if needed or mix them etc.

Reliability : 10
No problems to report, feels solid and of good quality.

Customer Support : No Opinion

Overall Rating : 10
Best fuzz face pedal I've found to date. If that's what you're after, you definitely should give the Diaz Texas Square Face Fuzz a try.

this pedal only has two knobs,Level and Fuzz, so it shouldn't take anybody long to get whatever the pedal is going to do, out of it. The level has plenty of headroom, while I found the fuzz control didn't change as much as one would think, but should definately be enough fuzz for anyone's desire. Particularly for Texas Blues, And the Stevie thing of course. The pedal includes two extra Geranium Transistors for alternate tone option.

Sound Quality : 8
I play Fender Strats with vintage Fender amps that sound wonderful on their own. I am very partial to SRV's tone and sound. The pedal is not noisy unless it's cranked all the way like any other pedal. The effect is Definately Very Very good. If you like SRV tone, and play anything like the kind of gear I do, you will get the SRV tone. Also, the pedal cleans up beautifully almost right away when you start backing off your volume control on the guitar, the problem is, when your volume on your guitar is full on, and you hit the pedal there is an EQ unbalance. Instant loss of high end, for lack of a better word, it's muddy sounding, and that is NOT SRV's TONE. It's the only pedal I have that does not have a Tone control or any kind of tone option, and in my opinion, this pedal definately needs one. My other pedals are fulltone full drive two and fulltone fat boost which I absoloutely love.

Reliability : 10
seems to be built quite well physically. and no doubt very high quality parts and good craftsmanship. You shouldn't need a back up with this one.

Customer Support : 5
The people were kind enough to e-mail me back a few times when I aproached them on the EQ issue but were ultimately unable to help me or suggest anything to correct the problem.

Overall Rating : 6
Overall the effect the pedal gives you is excellent if your lookinf for the SRV tone and or Texas blues and also Hendrix for sure. I play Blues mainly now and have been playing for over 35 years. I love Stevie's tone the most and that is purely why I bought this pedal. It sure gives you the sound, but I can not get my head around this EQ issue, and for that reason, sadly I had to pass on this pedal.I would love to hear other people's take on this issue.

Simple Dimple. Nothing fancy just some of the best tone you ever heard. No editing No Manual No software revisions...bah humbug

Sound Quality : 10
See this in a local shop and wondered what the hell it was doing in there. A guy working there ordered it and didn't want it. So I plugged it in to a Hot Rod Deluxe to see what it would do. With some strat off the wall it got very sustainy/fluid type fuzz. So I need a fuzz box like I need a hole in my head but for store cost of $150 I took it home.
Used with:
67' Strat
92' SRV Strat
97' Hendrix Woodstock Strat
POS Frankenstrat...It's not really a POS
97' PRS Custom 22
03 Gibson Les Paul Standard

Marshall Bluesbreaker RI
Soldano Decatone Head and 2X12 cab
Music Man RD 100 1X12 combo
Music Man HD 130 4X10 combo

DejaVibes
Fulldrives
Clyde Standard & Deluxes
69' Pedal
70' Pedal
Tube Tape Echo
Maestro Phase Shifter PS-1
Maestro Fuzztain
Pro Co Rat

Really sounds good is all my amps. Sounds just about exactly like the 69' pedal if you crank all of the knobs on the 69's pedal. Lots of sustain and just the right type of fuzz sound. I think the thing that I like about this pedal so much is how great it sounds when you roll off the volume of your guitar. It's the easiest and best SRV tone I ever got. 69' pedal sounds good with the volume rolled off but not this good. Hummm be carefull cause it picks up radio stations everynow and then. ...

To use it on a gig I had to abandon some pices of equipment. The Square Face hated my Samson wireless and the effect loop pedal I was using. SO now all pedals are in line in to then amps. But you know I use less pedals now cause I like this one so much. It gets that Hendrixy fuzz sound very easily. The Perfect Foxey Lady sound. Yeah Fuzz and Pristine is two words that don't together ha!

Reliability : 10
I guess it's more dependable then some pedals I have. No reason to think it would fail. Cesar is gone but not forgotten. I was told that his family was building these new pedals and that Fender was distributing them. Don't know if that's true or not.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Haven't dealt with them.

Overall Rating : No Opinion
Really like this pedal. So glad I took the time to try it out. I wish I could have afforded one of Cesar's amps when he was alive. He probably is the "Amp Doctor". Seems like his record of who he has worked for and worked with is pretty much unmatched by anyone else. SRV, Clapton, Dylan, Da Stones, I mean the list it pretty impressive. If he told me to do this this and this to a rig I know I would have listened.

Even with only two knobs, most fuzz units are a trip. Its hard to get a bad sound out of this one: IT IS GREAT!!!

Sound Quality : 10
When I first heard this fuzz, it blew me away. Beautiful, is the first word that comes to mind. American Strat >Square Face >Teese Picture Wah (the Best ever) >CPR (true bypass loop) >Rotovibe >Voodoo Lab Proctavia >Rivera 100Watt Quiana Studio Head w/2X12 closed back vintage 30 bottom. Stevie Ray Vaughan used this unit and it is easy to get all his sounds from it... (my strat has Lindy Fralin Blues Specials). If you compare all feautures and sound quality, this is the best fuzz for the money.

Reliability : 10
Totally Dependable... Diaz is a Legend himself!

Customer Support : 10
Unfortunately, Mr. Diaz has been ill lately... my prayers and best wishes go to him. He has always been passionate about his work and you can see this reflected in the workmanship of this pedal. It is a piece of history... a work of art. He stands 100% behind what he sells.

Simple! Familiar 2 knob fuzz. This one has the transistor sockets - Find it hard to change these around due to small size of casing. Other than that I'd have given it 10/10

Sound Quality : 10
I'm using this with a '76 Strat equipped with Texas Specials and a Blues Deluxe Fender amp - This is THE silicon Fuzz Face sound I've been looking for! I've tried the Fulltone 70, Axis Fuzz, Stone Fuzz and numerous vintage/re-issue silicon Fuzz Faces and they're either too noisy, don't clean up well with guitar volume or just don't sound 'right'. I've yet to try the germanium transistors but my Fulltone 69 and collection of germanium Fuzz Faces give me the classic early Hendrix fuzz tone.

Reliability : 9
Circuit board is a little loose. But it feels solidly built and the circuit looks dead simple. If it broke I'd either buy another or get a pal to make up the circuit in one of my Fuzz Face casings. I'd use without backup.

Customer Support : No Opinion
No experience here - but I'm told Cesar is a true gentleman to deal with.

Overall Rating : 9
I play blues/rock and have played for over 35 of my 38 years!
I love the Strat/Fuzz Face/Fender amp combination and for me the Diaz Fuzz is the ultimate silicon Fuzz Face solution. Yet to try with my other guitars - ES295, Alvin Lee's 6120,...... But with a Strat and a Fender tube amp you have the ultimate Texas Blues/Hendrix sound.

THIS UNIT IS VERY EASY TO USE SAME CONTROLS AS THE FUZZ FACE, VOLUME AND FUZZ KNOBS, BUT THE FUZZ KNOB WORKS THE WHOLE WAY, NOT JUST AT THE VERY END.

Sound Quality : 10
DEFINITELY THE BEST FUZZ IVE EVER HEARD IVE HAD THEM ALL, THE FACT THAT THIS UNIT COMES WITH TRANSISTOR SOCKETS SO YOU AS A USER CAN REPLACE TRANSISTORS FROM THE GERMANIUMS THAT IT COMES WITH TO SILICONS FOR MORE GAIN WHICH ARE ALSO INCLUDED IS WHY I CAME TO BUYING THIS UNIT BUT THE SOUND IT PRODUCES MADE IT MY NEW FUZZ ON MY BOARD AND HAS REMAINED THERE SINCE!

Reliability : 10
I DONT THINK IF YOU PUT THIS LITTLE TANK IN THE MIDDLE OF THE INTERSTATE AND LEFT IT THERE FOR 2 WEEKS YOU COULD HURT IT. YES I WOULD PLAY WITHOUT A BACKUP.......CEAZAR DIAZ IS THE MAKER OF THE SQUARE FACE. The Texas Square face was originally designed as a replacement for Stevie Ray Vaughn's fuzz faces, which were always dying. Cesar built his circuit into one of SRVs dead fuzz face boxes and Stevie used it until his unfortunate death. THESE LITTLE BEAUTIES ARE HAND WIRED BY DIAZ AND FRIENDS HAVE TRUE BYPASS YOU CAN PICK EM UP AT www.cesardiaz.com AND HE WILL SIGN THE UNIT TO YOU FOR A 180 BUCKS I THINK OR THERE ABOUTS,WHICH IS LOWER THAN THE GOING RATEDIAZ MAKES SOME OTHER PEDDALS WICH ARE ALL REALLY NICE,MY NEXT PURCHASE IS ONE OF HIS TUBE AMPS HE MAKES CHECK OUT HIS SITE ......... this unit has 3 preset tone parameters low mid and hi it has the
easiest settings just select the tone and whalla its that simple
no bibs required just plug and play

Sound Quality : 10
well diaz speaks its own language and that is TONE TO THE BONE
the pedal sounds incredible in most applications that i have used it
with my 50s strat and tele they seem to be very compatible with this unit
plus the benefit of having cesar personally deliver this pedal was a spiritual boost to boot !!thats worth a million itself his concept of what sounds good and his track record speaks for itself thats a big plus in my book he is a very cool and spiritual guy and i like that ..in my tech the pedal will make a junk speaker sparkle like a jbl
and the overdrive isnt too buzzy when you roll off the volume a lil

Reliability : 10
so far it hasent bugged out on me the switch is heavy duty also the box seems beefy although i could get by without the chicken headed knobs they cant be manipulated with your foot too easy well all you need to do is set it once anyways

Customer Support : 10
well when it comes to support i was shocked he has me on his webpage
the dude calls me!!! and asks if its "ok" "wow" a first in this buisness that inspired me to play with it more and get involved with the diaz sound and develope a mojo to play differently too
however i havent needed any service the thing dosent break !!!

Overall Rating : 10
i especially like this pedal with my 51 nocaster and the volume control rolled down a lil bit it is unbelievable i have a fondness for the authentic tonal pallet this pedal; it produces great nukabilly country tones ala hellicasters he needs to ditch the chicken head knobs though
so my size 12 shoes can manipulate the volume without bending down

The Sh*t!!!Very warm, very playable fuzz. It's has bottom and the harmonics just jump out of your amp.Playing leads sound great!!!I have one of the old vintage Diaz Fuzz. It's the green monster with 1 germanuim transistor(NTE 103).It's not muddy sounding like my Dunlop FuzzFace and it lot warmer than my Tonebender clone but not as wild as my Prescription Experience! Now I know why SRV used one!I have an DPDT installed on mine(a must)!
My setup:Fender 62 Strat reissue>>Vox/Teese wah>Dunlop Rotovibe>PE Experience>Diaz Fuzz>Jekyll&Hyde>Boss CE-2>>Boss RRV-10>Pignose G-40V>2X12 cab.
If it had a tone control knob it would be perfect!!!

I use a wide range of guitars, fender, gibson, guild, danelectro, hamer, ibanez and some homemades. My amps range from a custom vibrolux 2x10 to a evh 5150,Depending on where I am at and what I am doing. But there are 3 things that are always with me.My old cry baby wah,my Diaz Tremadillo, and my Diaz Tex Square Face.I use tubescreamers, super overdrives, several different octave devices,as well as Modulation pedals, but they all work around the Diaz pedals and the Wah.I can get blues tones that don`t sound like everyone else,or I can get into Cream/Hendrix world with the tun of a knob..Yes I really like these pedals, just don`t like sharing my secrets with everyone"sorry Cesar they are all painted Black"As far as noise goes,I have no problem with that at all.

Reliability : 10
I have never had any problems with any of the 4 Diaz pedals I own,2 of which are spares that I don`t think I will ever need to use..I have taled to Cesar via Email.I was shocked when he wrote back,He is one hell of a guy and funny too..

This is the fuzz I have been looking for. Totally awesome. Once that I heard that Diaz made the fuzz pedals for SRV. I knew this would be the right one. To me SRV had the best fuzz I ever heard. If you ever seen or heard him play live before he past away, you will notice he used the fuzz alot. Songs like Vooddo chile, Leave my girl alone, Life without you "solo". The best fuzz you ever heard. I tried fulltone's 69 which was cool. But the not the fuzz I wanted. I tried a bunch of them. Z vex fuzz factory, fulltone, dallas, etc, etc. The trick to this pedal is that it has to be before your TS 808 or 9 pedal in the effect chain. Its the only spot on the chain that makes this pedal scream. Sustain forever with slight TS overdrive on top. It doesn't sound that great running it by itself. Fender amps and vintage strats is what I use and this is the tone for fuzz I always wanted. Thanks Ceaser Diaz!
