Out of the box it is pretty user freindly.Just plug in and go. The manual is kind of sparse in some areas.Editing is easy. And like all gear the better the equipment the better the sound. For a one peice do almost everything unit at a reasonable cost it has more features than the competition.

Sound Quality : 8
I use the GNX3 through a Boogie MarkIV.Everything sounds good through this amp. I run mine through the effect loop, and can use iton a push button.I have so many different combinations its hard to get tired of playing. I use a Boogie Studio 22+ as a slave amp with a closed back Vintage 2+12 Boogie cabinet. It screams, purrs, shakes and moans.I get very little noise, unlike some of the other equipment I have.

Reliability : 5
I have used it at a gig,but I always bring a Tube Screamer, Boss chorus and delay unit anyway.I wish it hade a brightness knob for the display as in the daylight you can't see where you are at. It is usless in the sunlight outside on stage.I couldn't get it shaded to bee able to see. Inside it works fine but if you play outdoor gigs youre screwed. Also I bought the FS300 footswitch and it doesn't work As soon as I plug in it goes into an automatic record function and won't shut off untill you unplug the switch. All of the controls dont work untill you unplug and manually turn record off It won't record any signal and you have to delelet the track. I'm waiting for Digitec to respond to that problem. And want to swap out unit for one that works, I don't want one that needs to be repaired.

I am waiting for them to reply to footswitch problem. They seem easy to get ahold of but I'm not real confident they can fix my problem without lost useage time

It takes a while to figure out how to make the good sounds. But that's because there's so much you can do with it. It's complex, but that's necessary for all the billions of options. I would give it a ten considering, except i made a really awesome mesa/fuzz amp model and then had to reset, and still haven't found out why i can't recreate it. The manual's pretty good. as said before it's vague at points. The 8-track is everything it claims to be, very simple to use, except it was necessary for me to do a factory reset before it worked.

Sound Quality : 8
I'm using an Ibanez S-370 (mahogany body, maple neck, stock pick-ups) through a Crate GX-212 (which kinda sucks.) I run it through my fender passport 250 sometimes. The noise gate works well for me, I have no complaints for that. The effects are pretty good for a multi-modeling unit. I really like the amp warping, it let's me come up with some cool stuff. The stomp boxes aren't that good i like the amp models better for distortion. The effects sound nice, but take a while to tweak to get a certain sound.

Reliability : 8
It's pretty dependable, my only problem was that the 8-track stopped working at one point and i had to do a factory reset and it erased all my presets. But it did fix the 8-track.

I play various forms of rock. Metal, punk, alternative, rock and roll, whatever. This handles everything I've gotten into as of yet. I've been playing for a year and a half and used to have an rp-200 but sold it when i got this. I have an ibanez fuzz box. If it were lost, i'd cry 'cause i don't have any money for another. But i'd buy it again if i had the means. I love the banks, so I have 5 presets to choose from at once. That may be in most multi effect units but i like it, so blah. The bass simulator is really cool, as well as the rifamatic thing, that instantly makes this weird guitar solo thing. I was either getting this, the boss gt-6, or a pod 2. This won because of the 8-track. For the $100 more than the gnx2, the 8-track is wayyyy worth it. I love it. One comment, if the 8-track stops working, before returning it or calling customer support, do both an 8-track reset as well as the full unit reset, that's what fixed mine before.

I bought this unit, unpacked it, played through it for 15 minutes, packed it up and sent it back. This is a wanne be metal shredder kids toy. If you are serious player concerned with serious tone, get serious, stick with simple effective boxes, that rely on the sound of your guitar, not this digital re-modeled homogenized, toy rus effects route.

It's pretty easy to use once you've learned the basics about it. The manual is really helpful, sometimes a little vague, but it gives a pretty decent overall outline about the entire unit. It could be a little bit more detailed, but what can you do?

Sound Quality : 3
The sound quality is very unimpressive. Even on bypass it leaves a buzz hiss noise coming out of my cab (Mesa/Boogie Recto Standard 4x12). I've taken it out of my effects loop, which is all BOSS (previously exclusive to BOSS, soon will be again), just to make sure that it is the processor and not anything else. The effects are very weak with this. Tremolo and Rotary Speaker, all of that nonsense is alright as far as quality goes. I'm talking about the Flanger, the Phaser, those kinds of things. They lack so much in quality. I couldn't get a good Flange out of this thing if my life depended on it. The Noise Gate is a piece of **** as well. It either blocks out all noise if it isn't a certain volume, which means that light picking is completly cut off, or if the threshold is low enough to let in the lighter picking, then it defeats the purpose of the entire principal of the noise gate, because it lets noise through, especially with the rectifier amp model. I bought this for live performance and whatnot, because i previously used all BOSS stompboxes, and wanted smoother transitions between effects. This could not even come close to comparing to what the BOSS pedals could do. I bought this because the local store i got it from had it in stock and the BOSS GT-6 would have to be ordered, the salesman talked me into buying this... I took it back three days later and ordered the GT-6. I can't wait until it comes in. Recorder was pretty fun though, i must say. Even though it only came with three minutes of quality recording time, and another memory card would have to be purchased for any decent amount of time for recording. The drum machine was fun to play around with as well... but the drum loops cannot be edited or customized other than adjusting the level and the tempo. Fun though, never the less, but not very useful or practical other than just killing time at home or where ever.

Reliability : 6
I didn't really have it long enough to say if i could depend on it. I know the LED cover was made out of a really really horribly thin cheap **** plastic. I pushed on it a little, just to check it out, i almost busted the whole thing. Good thing i only did that once and was lucky enough not to destroy the thing so i could take it back and get my refund... Otherwise, it's all metal for the most part, seems pretty sturdy. The 6 is for the cheap plastic... i just couldn't believe they would go all out giving this thing so many capabilities (even though quality doesn't match the number of things it can do) and sell it for $500 and put seran wrap to cover the LEDs... i guess it's in keeping with the sound quality. Ouch, maybe that was below the belt... nah.

Customer Support : 10
The customer support was really great actually. I called twice trying to figure out why the recorder wasn't recording any guitar tracks i was putting down when i was just fooling around with it. It somehow switched from mono to analog, or vice versa, i don't really remember, but anyhow, i wouldn't even know how to change that if i wanted to, so i'm not sure how that happened, but they helped me go through all of the little hidden menu options and whatnot to fix it. They were pretty nice and all. This is what i say about BOSS customer support every time i feel like posting a BOSS review for any of the many products i have of thiers. (BOSS customer support is pretty crappy) If a company put all of the time, effort, and funding into producing quality durable products that some companies put into their customer support, then they wouldn't need customer support, because their customers would almost always be happy with what they buy. In other words, If DigiTech got rid of their customer support and put everything they put into their customer support into making a GNX3 that didn't blow, then well, this review would be a lot more about praising than complaining. The customer support was good though.

Overall Rating : 4
I think i've said everything that i need to say about this thing. I wasn't impressed with it at all. The only thing that it had that i wish the BOSS had was the warping, that was pretty cool, it could be assigned to the expression pedal allowing a really nice transaction from one amp model or effect to another completely different amp model or effect. Even this had it's downsides though, but i'm not even going to go into it, because i've bashed this thing enough. It can do so many things, it just lacks the quality that everything that it can do for the most part is useless... to me anyway. Maybe it's just me.

It has too many "sub-menus" to be called user friendly. Put a few extra buttons for cryin out loud. The manual is not accurate in describing the different modes and how to get into them.
It had Rev. 1.0

This is my biggest peave. I bought this for its cabinet and amp simulators. I am going direct into powered Event PS-8 monitor speakers and the I was not impressed at all by their emaulation. Not even the stomp boxes. I tried cab tuning/EQ/Gain setting and all other combinations.
Warping - Pretty cool! You can slowly go from a clean sound to a crunchomatic.
Accoustic guitar simulator - Digitech please dont embarass yourselves by calling this an accoustic simulator! Yuck!
I was hoping to replace my out dated Line6 POD but instead returned the GNX3.
If you like having a recorder at your feet, and the potential to layer stuff while playing live then you should check this out.
My needs are for direct recording.

I play easy rock/hard rock/classical-Flamenco guitar
Have been playing for 20 yrs.
It's amp/cabinet simulation for not upto my expectations at all.
I still like my lil ol POD.
The LED cover display was some cheesy plastic which I almost pressed out of its socket! Boss knows how to make rugged stuff.

The unit is pretty easy to use, most of the funcions can be intuitively figured out, and the manual is laid out logically with the working musician in mind. Firmware revision is 1.0.

Sound Quality : 10
I have a Nuno Bettencourt signature series washburn and have run this unit through a peavey backstage amplifier. If you set the target system to 1 x 12 this unit sounds outstanding. Much better than the POD 2 that I also own. The tone of the GNX3 is of studio quality and I'm really pleased with digitech's effort here. The stomp box distortion pedals are just about dead on, or even better (TS-9, DS-1, Pro co rat to name a few)than the originals. The phaser and flanger are better than I imagined, not quite as good as the old boss flanger but pretty close. If you can't get a sound that your after than you haven't played around enought yet. The guitar bass preset #22 is outstanding for recording bass parts and sounds convincing.

I play rock, hard rock, and blues and this baby is the one that I've been waiting to buy. I've been playing for 15 yrs. and this is the best value (quality vs. price)I've seen in quite some time. I would have paid out the $449 for the guitar processor, little alone a fully functional built in 8-track recorder. I do hope they will make a 256 bit smart media card in the near future, because as it stands right now you can only record up to 24 minutes at CD quality(3 minutes per 8 tracks of music)at a single time. 3 minutes is good for a one hit wonder, but what about those 6 plus minute masterpieces!!!

The GNX3 covers a _lot_ of sonic territory, which means that sound cultivation is a decidedly complex process. That said, the GNX3 handles this task elegantly. The controls are, IMHO, surprisingly intuitive; I was able to edit/create/warp presets of my own without consulting the manual, and the sound quality didn't suck. Signal Processors will never be as simple to use as individual pedals or a single amp, but the GNX3 is the bare minimum of complexity.

Sound Quality : 10
I am using this guitar with an Ibanez RG520QS, V7 in the neck, V8 at the bridge (humbuckers), mahogany body and maple neck. I would like to precede my sound critique with the following clause: while the GNX3 is more than capable of generating beautiful tone, it is also capable of generating auditory-vomit. I am certain that many people lack the patience necessary to maximize this machine's potential, and thusly, will slam it with bad reviews.

Anyway, this thing sounds un-be-fucking-lievable. I've tried both direct out and into a Crate GFX-212 in the Auxillary Input jack. If you make sure to use the appropriate output settings (Direct Out and 2x12 respectively), and take care to use a neutral sound with your amp (Try the effects loop if you have one), you will not be disappointed.

The out-of-the-box presets are fabulous. However, keep in mind that DigiTech wanted to show off the units capacity, so don't expect it to sound _exactly_ the way you desire without at least _some_ tweaking. The sounds that are packed in are noiseless, and if you make proper use of the noisegate, the unit can be eternally noiseless.

The amps/cabs/effects are excellent, and the emulations are very true to the original. Some effects, like the TSR9, are actually more flexible than the originals they imitate (I know, I have one). The amps are thick and juicy, with all the life and tone of a tube amp (I using a mesa-boogie nomad55 head as a point of reference). Yes, I said it. The GNX3 sounds every bit as good as the tube amps it emulates (so does the POD, j-station, vamp2, etc...). However, it doesn't feel like a tube amp. I personally don't consider this a detractor, but for some, the feeling of a boogie blowing their underwear off their ass is very important.

Oh yeah, and the warp stuff is amazing! Instead of giving you 30 or so amp models, you can blend the characteristics of the 16 GNX models into your own amp, and then cross breed as you desire. This is _infinitely_ useful, I cannot stress that enough. The thing with this processor is that you get out of it what you put into it, keep that in mind. If you need proof of good tone, then play aroud with the Eric Johnson preset; it's bang on (really, that should settle any argument over sound quality right there).

BTW, it has a built in 8-Track CD quality digital recorder with hands-free operation, which also doubles as a loop-station. There are three quality levels you can select from: CD, Normal, and Economy. On internal memory, you can get 3, 6, and 12 minutes of track time respectfully. With a 128mb SmartMedia card (the maximum supported size), you get 24, 48, and 96 minutes respectfully. The recorder is _very_ useful, but it's not designed for creating your multi-platinum debut. It is excellent for creating demos (with the built in signal processing and drum machine, perhaps the best demo-maker around) and jotting down musical ideas. It fulfills it's purpose flawlessly.

Reliability : 9
This thing was designed for gigging, and is very dependable. However, if I would always have a backup for everything in my rig if at all possible. I'm giving this a 9 because it doesn't quite have that invincible boss-pedal feeling. That's the one thing the GT6 has over the GNX3. But that's not really fair, since all boss products can double as kevlar.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Haven't dealt with them yet, so I can't say.

Overall Rating : 10
I play shred, metal, punk, emo, classical...anything that I desire. I'm in my 4th year of playing, and I've used/owned a wide range of equipment, some of which the GNX3 emulates (like the DS-1, MT-2, TRS9, and boogie). If it were stolen, I'd find the theif, reclaim my propery, bash his skull in with it, then buy another. I absolutely love the versatility, you can do pretty much anything with it. I was considering buying a pod2, v-amp2, j-station, or gt6, but I had to buy the gnx. Really, in terms of quality, it's a showdown with the GT-6, but the Warping and 8 Track Recorder make the GNX3 the better choice if you have the extra cash. I wish it had more internal time, or support for larger expansion cards, but apart from that I can't complain. This is a _phenomenal_ musical asset!
