Editing is easy. Easy enough to get a decent sound. Manual is very good. Firmware 1

Sound Quality : 3
Cleary outdated at this point in time. Even using the supermodel packs it falls short. When your ear is conditioned from months and months of using tube amps(hughes and kettner Switchblade and Peavey 5150) it becomes VERY clear how mediocre this unit sounds. When I heard it again I was shocked by how bad it sounded, NO warmth. In no way close in sound quality even with a tube power amp or through a PA. Reminds me of the old Scholz rockman. Even the effects which i used to think sounded good just don't cut it anymore. I gave it to my son for him to practice with. I still use the tuner and mp3 functons and maybe the recorder function from time to time. AS a guitar tone generator I am done with it. Clean or dirty it just sounds fake and thin anymore.

Reliability : 7
It is slowly breaking down after five years of use

Not bad

Overall Rating : 5
When it first came out it was great but now it sounds like a cheap toy. I am done with it. Tube amps rule anyway you look at it.

The GNX4 does a LOT of things: amp/cab modeling, effects chain, recorder, mixer, PC interface. That being said it requires a lot more work to master than a stomp box. Once set up properly it makes playing a real joy. But you do have to work at it.

Sound Quality : 10
As delivered from Digitech the GNX4 is an OK effects box. Spend a few bucks on the MFX SuperModels for this thing and you may quit lugging around that expensive hand wired boutique tube amp. The SuperModels make this box. Without them it is little different than the Boss or Line6 models and maybe not as good sounding as the Vox. With them this is one of the neatest guitar tricks I have ever owned.

Reliability : 10
It doesn't LOOK as well built as some others but it has lasted with no troubles.

Customer Support : 7
Only real beef is no support for Mac OS past 10.4 . Bummer.

Overall Rating : 10
Use this with a LP, a Strat, a SG and a Gretsch Anniversary playing pop/rock/blues/country. If your tastes range far and wide and you'd like to play Atkins one minute and Hetfield the next than this is a great toy. No, it is not perfect but it's a lot more practical than trying to gather up four Marshalls, three Fenders, a Fuchs, two Voxs, a Gibson, a Bad Cat, a Soldano and 45 pedals. The money saved on cables alone pays for the GNX4.

In my opinion, it is possible and to some extent relatively easy to get good sound of this unit or arguably any of the current modelers. Rule number one is that you need to understand this will not sound its best when running into the front end (guitar input) of any guitar amplifier. You have two viable choices: a full range system, like an active PA speaker, studio monitors, keyboard amp or into a power amp and guitar speakers (effects return of a guitar amp will work, even better if its a tube powered guitar amp). Editing patches is relatively easy using the unit itself but extremely intuitive when using the inlcuded X-Edit computer software. You must keep in mind that the factory presets almost all need some tweaking before they sound decent; usually adding a little low end and/or sometimes high end and presence. The manual is easy to follow. I have the most current firmware, which I believe is 1.2.

Sound Quality : 8
Building off of the section above, in my opnion you need to know at least a little about how the different components of a guitar rig contribute to tone. Once you have that down its a lot easier to figure out how to make this (or any) current modeler sound not only good, but very good or excellent. It also helps to know what amp models are even applicable to your needs (you're probably not going to cover Metallica with a Tweed model and you won't likely cover Zepplin with a Rectifier model). I currently use this with strat type and a V-type guitars. I run three P-90s in the strat type and two humbuckers in the V. I run the GNX4 output into the effects return of a Peavey Classic 30 head and into a 2x12 cabinet. This gives my only the power section of the head (none of the volume or tone controls on the amp work; everything is controlled from the GNX4). I have also run this into studio monitors, live PA speakers and a keyboard amp, and while these full range methods are technically proper for hearing everything the modeler is generating, running it through the power section of a tube amp and then into guitar speakers in my opnion gives you the best of both worlds. Not only do you get a number of very credible sounding amplifier models and effects, but the tube power and speaker path seem to strip off the "digitalness" of these modelers and adds warmth and dimension. I am honestly astounded at how good this unit sounds through this rig. My only gripe is with the harsh sounding Blue Marvel speakers in my cab, which I will be replacing with a Hellatone 30 and 60 this week.

While I usually gravitate toward the higher gain, hot rodded marshall type sounds, even a rectifier once in a while (I cut my teeth on 80s metal), I find myself very inspired by the more vintage tones, and the unique ability to warp two amps together to create an all new original tone is not a gimick; it takes some time and patience, but the result is truly unique tone - potentially the signature tone you've been looking for.

The effects are plentiful and sounds very, very good (the choruses and delays particulary stand out). I haven't run into an effect that I didn't find usable in some context. My guitars are hard tails, so I actually have a Van Halen-like patch using the Whammy effect, and it is an unbelievably effective alternative to a locking tremolo system for dive-bomb effects. On the weaker side would be the intelligent pitch shifter, which is effective and is fine within the context of a band, but on its own is lacking somewhat in sonic quality.

I truly like a lot of the amp models including but not limited to crunch, high gain, british stack as well as some of the more vintage tweed, twin and vox models. I tend only to use a few of the cabinet models and found that using the cabinet tuning can sometimes make a huge difference in the usability of an amp model. There are several overdrive/stomp boxes that sound very good in front of the amp models as well as a very tweakable compressor and effective noide suppressor, should you need one. The wahs are very good too.

Between the amp models, effects, cabinet types (and cabinet tuning) there's just too much to discuss about this unit in the context of this review. The point is that this is truly a powerful tool box that given a little time and patience and run through the proper rig can sound incredibly good.

Reliability : No Opinion
Digitech stuff is very dependable; right up there with Roland/Boss in my opnion. My only word of caution is that digital devices don't do well when there are power issues, particularly when there is very low voltage. Keep this in mind and consider power conditioning if you suspect such issues. That is not to say I have anything bad to say about the reliability of this unit. It is very solidly built, but I am never comfortable gigging without a backup regardless of what kind of equipment it is. All this being said I would be more likley to gig with this unit without a backup than some other inferior eqipment/brands.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Never had to deal with DigiTech directly. Good web presence, which to date has served my support needs.

Overall Rating : 8
Yeah - I've played a lot of gear over a lot of years yadda, yadda, yadda, but I'm only semi-pro. I have a day job, cannot afford or justify the investment in ultra high-end boutique equipment (otherwise I'd have a Two-Rock rig...). What I do need is a system that is reliable, reasonably priced and most importantly capable of producing a fair number of high quality, diverse tones for use in whatever cover band I might be involved with at the time. I have owned recent competitive offerings from Roland/Boss and Line6. Quite frankly, I feel I can get any of these to sound good, but all things considered I thought the GNX4 was the best deal. I actually owned an older GNX (3, I think), then the others can came back to a GNX (this newer GNX4). It's priced right, built like a tank, sounds great and has the added benefit of multi-track recording, which I didn't talk about in this review, but am looking forward to using in the near future. I think the reason I came back to the GNX4 is that DigiTech seems to have built a product that is (as a modeler alone) less gimicky or over the top as some of the others. It is pretty straight forward yet has everything you need to dial in some great tones and then just concentrate on making music!

The point is that you should not count this unit out even if the recording features don't appeal to you or because one of the competitors might have the latest greatest this or that with more bells and whistles. It is a very high-end modeler that doesn't have quite as many amps models, cabinet types or some other features that the others might offer (sophisticated multi-track recording aside, of course), but I believe this unit has a higher percentage of high quality, usable models. It doesn't only do vintage and it doesn't only do the high-gain stuff, it really does an excellent job of giving you very usable tones across the spectrum of extremes. What a lot of people seem to miss is the magic that a well dialed-in modeler can make when run through a tube power amp and high quality guitar speaker cabinet. I can't believe how little is written about this aspect of modelers, but to those of us who have figured it out, there is a whole new world of affordable, great tone out there!

Mine is 3 mos old. The sound of the GNX4 is great. Preset editing is done with the control hw or you can use the pc based editor. I liek using the pc Xedit program. Easy to assign parameters and get a visual read of what is happening. The manual is detailed enough to get by but could perhaps go deeper with examples. Much more can be learned at their guitarworkstation site Craig Anderton tutorials. My Firmware is 1.3

Sound Quality : 9
First attempt at getting sound through my monitors had a odd fuzz. Once I read the speaker compensation setting it was 100 times better. No noise, and the gate is actually pretty good. There are couple gate types and once I explored those it got even better. Default was kind of high in most patches.

It's effects are very good. Mine is used with a QSC power amp and a pair of Peavey BW cabs stereo. Other sound rig is through Mackie monitors on my daw. Most times, I jam with the Mackies at home.

Kudos to reviews here. I tested the mfxsupermodels for the gnx4 hard rock disc and my eyes and ears opened up as the reviewers said here. That's the smaller expansion disc I ordered. I was impressed with how many sounds were on it. Excellent tones, amps and cabintes. A big thumbs up here!

Sounds from on board recorder are cd quality. I can transfer songs to it's compact flash card for backing tracks. I use it for song fillers too. The gnx4 also has MP3 playback and drum machine with varied kits. I like how I can connect the ouputs to different sources of amps. Really cool!

Reliability : 9
In the 3 months, I've gigged 8 times with this at church, and twice at nightclubs. I think it's built tough to take most of what I can leash on it.

Customer Support : 10
No repairs. I sent email to them and Digitech responded in about 10 hours. Detailed what I needed and solved my pc issue with Vista.

Overall Rating : 10
I tend to play modern or progressive styles. On or about 15 years. I wasn't big on modelers until recently. What they have done with these is great. Comparing to a Line 6 I started with gnx4 is full of win for my use. The extended features are what I liked best.

This is an update to my previous review. I recently received the mfx supermodels (www.mfxsupermodels.com) Ultimate pack. Wow! The models and presets make everything I had already programmed in, that I thought sounded good, sound like crap...lol. The amp models have so much depth that it's amazing. I'm still not sure how they do it, but I've been blown away by the models. The JCM800 models are incredible. I've owned a couple in the past, and to be honest, I can't really tell a difference. The artist presets are dead on. Don't bother with going to the different forums and downloading anything. Just buy the supermodels pack and you'll never look back.

How easy is it to get a good sound out of it? easy! You need to spend some time with the editor and then it makes more sense. Start with models only. Add effects and see what gives. Manual is good and Digitech has a site GuitarWorkstation.com that has tutorials by Craig Anderton.
Firmware is 1.3. No upgrades, none needed. Works perfectly.

Sound Quality : 10
Can you get the sound of your favorite artists? Who are they? Yes no problem. Go to some sites and look at the gear used and settings. You can get close., Guitar World hosts some presets for the GNX4. Guitars? I use a Epi LP. MIA Strat and a T-5. Amps? I have a Marshall rack power amp and 2 vertical mesa 212's. Effects are stunning! Chorus is clear and reverb is polished.

Reliability : 10
It's heavy. Made of steel construction with cast pedal. Durable enough and I've gigged over 60 x with it so far in'07. Never failed :)

Great site support. MFX supermoel site host has demo links for about anything related to the GNX4. I learned a great deal there.

Overall Rating : 10
GNX4 has a lot of options. There are accessories to add. GNXFC for optional footswitch use, supermodels if you want them ( I did), and a compact flsh card. Found today for about $25 for 2GB. I use my GNX4 for almost anything. I get an idea and it's easy to just hit the recorder. No big setting up required. GNX4 has Pro track software, but I use the latest Sonar 7. GNX4 drivers supported no problem. REAMPING is my favorite feature. You can reamp to the flash or the pc USB connection and software. Easy to change a preset sound or model in your mix instead of recording many tracks and experimenting. Reamp tool is king !! On the floorboard I make instant changes in Stomp Box mode. Boosting my preset for a lead or tapping the delay tempo is easy too. Does it help you make music, or does it get in the way? It sure helps in every way. I have POD XT Live and the GNX4 is just a better more universal toolbox.

Let me first say that I purchased the 4 because the Jam Man was only $200.00 less and there were cool features including the recorder. Boss's loop station was at the same price and I was unaware of the Boomarang. We originally walked out of the GC with a GNX3 when my wife noted that the limitation on the card did not allow very much looping. We paid the difference for the 4. This was a good decision. I have owned my 4 approximately 2 years and am just writting a review. This is because until I decided that I was going to use more than the Jam Man section the effects sounded noisy and abrasive and most of all highly processed. The presets are relatively easy to edit however not without reading the manual. As already mentioned by many others there are resources on the web and Craig Andertons web tutorial is excellent. The manual. Here is the rub. The manual is excellent if you want to use that 4 to its fullest capabilities, however has some glaring omissions. To get to the USER presets one must first modify and store something. There is not one mention of how to enter the user presets by some simple procedure. I don't use many of the amp modeling effects and it would have been nice to see a switch (eg: Boss ME-30) to turn off amp modeling short of dumping them. The foot switches are a pain and when you must hit two switches simultaneously you better be a good shot or all kinds of unwanted sounds come up. A stage musician would find this rather disquiting. Finally, it will not go through my Road King's effects loop, believe me I have tried everything. I will try a 20/40 dB inline pad. The bypass sucks if it is used as an input device. Hitting the two switches is bad enough but you must match the output pot to compensate for the loss of gain from the presets. It is noisy when bypassed. My firmware is version 1.3. I would like to see an effects/amp listing for each preset. This would make the unit a lot easier to pre visualize what combinations make up a preset.

Sound Quality : 8
The EJ preset with modeling played through a Strat is nice while the rest are over the top. Some of the special features like 5ths and Mo slide age great, after I get rid of the amp modeling or turn it down.
All of the effects are really good they must be used in the proper proportion to achieve a clean sound.I set up trembo to use as just a tremolo and its min effect is still too much, yet the control over speed is nice. The expression pedal is a great feature and makes all the effects much more effective. Although I have found that I get a digital ring to some of the effects. I thought ok turn down the trebble and I was wrong turn down the bass some of these offects overload. The reduced Bass (-8 to -12) works in most cased. Close proximity to FM signals from a wireless interferes with some effects. For the most part the unit is versitile for all its effects and when properly applied are very nice. The studio reverb is a great place to go when wou need that thick clear reverb. I believe that my ME-30 still sounds beter in the effects department

Reliability : 10
I have had it for two years no trouble.

Customer Support : 10
The website speaks for itself. and it is obvious that with the addition of Craig Andertons tutorials these people are serious.

Overall Rating : 9
I play a wide variety of music and jam in a trio the unit is a good match for the looper' however for blues and other forms of music the Boogie is more than enough. I have been playing for 45 years. I have most of the representative guitar and amp genre's.If it were lost as I have said saterically in the past I would go to rehab for people that loose large objects. If it were stolen I would replace it with a boomerang. I love the versatility and infinite level of effects mixes.I hate that it does not have a "true" bypass and that the preamp is still on without the effects which makes it dificult to play as an inline device. If I could put this through my effects loop it would be of greater value. On the other hand if you hook it to a valve junior with the cabinet it can be used in the amp modeling mode with great effect, assuming you reduce the offending overloading effects. The looper is very versitle and that's why I bought it, and that is why it will get high marks. As an effects processor, my ME-30 sounds distinctly better and far less noisy. I also wish that the looper could bypass the effects/amp modeling section. My wish list is 1. a simple control to loose the modeling 2. a simple control to enter the USER presets. 3. A true bypass 4. a built in attenuation pad for use with an effects loop 5. better assignment of foot switches like choosing an effect from each bank and being able to switch to them. The bounceback is cute but in reality not very effective. It does get in the way if I am going from an effects ladden song to prehaps straignt blues but I am working on a solution which would perhaps use a switchbox. As an overall product see my rating. As an effects processor I would give it a 5 or a 6. If you have any suggestions to make this work in a loop please let me know it would be greatly appreciated. Ya I did shut off the speaker compensation.

I'm not associated in any way with Digitech or the sales of any music products. I'm a working stiff just like you so here's my 2 cents worth. Seems to me some people are idiots as the GNX4 isn't that difficult to use right out of the box. I'm only a hobbyist and I managed to use this beast right away and love it. Hint, you might want to adjust the volume knobs on the back of the unit and at least read the GNX4 setup instructions, duh! Plug it in and turn the selection knob to a preset and away you go, it's that easy. Use the custom pedal section to make your own custom pedal combinations. I was easily able to make unique custom pedal configurations I'd never heard before and save them as a preset. Take the time to connect this puppy to your PC, install the included software, and it's easy to customize even the presets that are pre-installed. Save your presets to your PC then to CDROM for a backup of your work. People, this thing has tons of features and it will take time to learn it all or you can use it out of the box. If you have quality guitars, the processing power of the GNX4 will not let you or your sound down. Let me assure you that you will not be disappointed with the quality of the sound this effects monster can make for you. I'm very happy I bought this beast and would replace it again if it grew legs.

Sound Quality : 10
Unlike the cheap digital modeling amps out there that claim to simulate every other amp on the market, I think this puppy does a really great job of modeling many amps. When I select the Fender Hot Rod Deville (HRD) preset and play it through my Marshall Valvestate, the GNX4 actually makes my Marshall sound like a HRD. How do I know? I own both amps, that's how! I also purchased the MFX Supermodels (Google it and check out the sound samples on the web site) but there are over 1250 presets people created, saved, and uploaded on the Digitech web site. Many presets there have sound bites as well so you can hear them before downloading them. I downloaded all of them! There are presets for SRV, Joe Satriani, Eric Johnson, Santana, EVH, Sabbath, Metallica, Beatles, Beach Boys, Neil Diamond, Jazz, Rock, Blues, Heavy Metal, Punk, Techno, tube amps, reverbs, rotos, miked amps, Plexi's, Fender Twins, Bassman's, Verbs, Rotors, Vox's, Marshall's, Dumble's, Drop D tuning, and whatever else you might want. There are tons of presets listed by song title if you want emulate a particular song too. I created several of my own presets in no time and they are totally unique. As for learning how to use this beast, instead of listening to illiterate wannabees badmouthing a great product, do a Google search and watch tutorial videos on it on the Internet. The tutorials even have links to more presets, additional drum patterns, and much more. I don't play gigs so I have no idea how well the GNX4 works on stage but in my house you can dial the volume down on your screaming loud Fender Hot Rod Deville and get fantastic distortion without waking the baby in the next room. The price might be a little high but consider this, I bought 2 Fultone effects pedals, 2 Digitech, and 3 Boss pedals before buying my GNX4. I still love my effects pedals but haven't bought another one since buying this tone monster.

Reliability : 10
I've owned mine for over a couple years without any issues and it's still going strong. I also use surge suppressors with all my equipment to protect my investments. The case is metal and the pedals are plastic. I use my hands to operate it. I suppose if you jump on the plastic pedals you could break them. If you treat your equipment with the same respect you give your $1000.00 guitar, you shouldn't have a problem. I'm not playing gigs but the times I did use my feet it felt solid enough. I'm happy I purchased the GNX4 and would replace it in a NY minute.

Customer Support : 10
I never had a problem with my unit but I did write an email to Digitech asking some unrelated questions once and received a response the same day. I never needed them for any of the Digitech products I've purchased.

Overall Rating : 10
While you can play this beast right out of the box, there are tons of settings for you to play with and learn. This thing has endless possibilities. Before I purchased the GNX4 I thought about saving some loot on the GNX3000. The GNX4 has much more processing power and is a much stronger unit than the other models. That's why this one is the flagship model. Definitely get ths one for the processing power and the rest will work itself out if you actually use the noodle God gave you and read a little bit of information about the unit's capabilities. If you can't read then play with the knobs and find the video tutorials on the Internet.

That's why this one is the flagship model. Definitely get ths one for the processing power and the rest will work itself out if you actually use the noodle God gave you and read a little bit of information about the unit's capabilities. If you can't read then play with the knobs and find the video tutorials on the Internet.

Once you spend some time with it, it's relatively easy to edit patches and amp combos. It does require reading the manual to get the hang of it. The manual is very good and pretty detailed. Mine came with the Power User's Guide, which goes into further depth. It's not as easy as say, a Boss ME-30 or 50, but it's a much more complex unit. Once you understand the different modes and features, editing and using the features is relatively easy.

Sound Quality : 9
Here's where the controversy seems to exist in these reviews. First off, to those that can't get a good sound out of it, stop expecting this unit to make your 15w Gorilla practice amp sound like a Marshall TSL stack. It won't happen. I've used it with my Marshall Valvestate 40 (13 years old and still going strong) and my 100w Carvin tube half-stack and gotten pleasing results. Does it sound a little digital? Yes, sometimes. But then, it IS digital. Overall, it's not hard to get very good sounds out of it. I'm ordering the mfx supermodels ultimate pack, as I hear that really brings this thing to life, but I'm happy with it now. And yes, I've used some of the 'real' amps and stompboxes that are modeled and am still happy with the sound of the GNX4. Remember - read the manual. And you MUST be mindful of the speaker compensation switches on the back. If they are in the 'wrong' position, it will sound like crap.
Aside from the very usable sounds, the beauty of this unit is the almost overwhelming options available to control your effects. Within one preset, you can use an amp on Channel 1, Channel 2, then warp them (in effect having 3 amps in one preset). You can use the expression pedal to control up to three parameters simultaneously, as well as the three control footswitches to also control 3 parameters each. Theoretically, you can control 12 parameters with four switches, plus three amp models - all in one preset.

For example. My band plays "Bringin' on the Heartbreak" by Def Leppard. In one preset, I have a clean amp with chorus and reverb (Channel 1). Channel 2 is the 'dirty' channel. Then, for the leads, I step on the expression pedal and viola! With one step it kicks in the 'screamer stompbox for a little more distortion and mids, cuts the chorus, and adds some delay. What's easier than that? The 'Bounceback' feature is also nice, which lets you switch back and forth between two presets using only one footswitch.
There are simply too many features to discuss. The built-in 8-track is very easy to use, the drum machine is versatile and easy to use. And I don't think I've even scratched the surface yet.

Reliability : 8
To those of you that have shied away from Digitech problems (as I have) because of their 'old' units, with bad sound and poor quality, I suggest giving them a new look. Their X-series pedals are very good, and the Scott Ian Black-13 is one of the best heavy distortion pedals I've ever heard (read my review of that). So far, I've had no problems with it. It's metal-cased and the knobs seem pretty sturdy.

I play classic rock, 80's hair-metal, thrash, nu-metal, and blues for 15 years now. I've gone through a number of processors and pedals, and so far, this is the only one I've used that I haven't had one complaint about. I'd buy another one in a heartbeat if something happened to this one. I got a great deal on this one used, but even at the $499 retail price it's a great bargain, even if you only use it for recording and practicing. Live, it keeps the tapdancing to a bare minimum and gives you flexibility you'd never have with just one amp and even a truckload of effects pedals. This thing has helped me improve my playing and maximize my practice time.

This is about how quiet the unit records with a mic into it with NO FXs records a song , on a single acoustic steel string guitar .

It is a one minute and twenty five second .wav file @7.2 mb .

The .wav file format was chosen because it is to my opinion and ( fact ) a clearer sounding format to use and it is a critical element to use to asses the quietness of the GNX4's recorder to see how good or bad it is as a recording device in a stand alone manner using the CF memory card in it .

So far there is a lot of positive post's on the electric guitar side of the GNX4 so I believe this post is a good and valid assessment of how well a GNX4 performs on miking an acoustic guitar or for that matter any acoustic instrument .

Sound Quality : 10
I used one EV mic with a SM57 type flavor in it's recording sound characteristic behavior , don't recall the model , only that it is a good microphone in the low $100.00 variety of microphones .

I used my small stereo 70 watt monitor with 2 8" JBL's and 2 piezos in the room hear my guitar fully and clearly with out it being so loud as to the point of getting into the mix itself through the microphone as I recorded .

Microphone on a microphone stand 3 to 4 inches away and below and towards the neck was the placement of the microphone .

Quiet room with no ambient room echo/reverberation

Reliability : 10
Worked like a charm , NO FXs at all . Dry setting on the GNX4's mic setting for recording in the song set up .

Customer suport is great ,

I chose a steel stringed acoustic as my next choice for two reasons .

so ...

I will talk about my personal needs in a digital recorder here .

Learning to play guitar had a series of choices . What kind of guitar do I start with , naturally most of us get a little nylon for our first taste of the guitar learning experience and progress from there to either a steel stringed acoustic and or electric guitar or a full blown electric guitar .

Once most people who choose an electric guitar stop there .

And those who go with an acoustic steel string have the ability to jump into a electric easily compared to an electric guitar only type person who finds out how hard and more strenuous a acoustic steel string is to play and forgets about it because of that fact .

I wanted to record my primary instrument the harmonica and some how in time I have been blessed and now play guitar and other instruments as well . The GNX4 is a dream come true for me .

Picture this fact :

What everyone hears when they listen to a song on the net , in a car radio , television , where ever , it is heard through some kind of stereo system , some big some small and most average in size and cost .

Everyone of them pleases the owner's ears too over all when they listen to music and they either buy CDs or download ( legal and illegal , I don't really care )it to play later on over and over .

When they hear a song they hear , voices , guitars mixed in with keyboard , horn and reed sections violins and bassoprofundos , bass guitars and some how we all hear pretty much the same over all sound and like it .

We don't hear a full blown Marshall double stack , or a Bass player's SVT with it's 8x10 Speaker cabinets , we don't here a Fender amp , or the difference of a Stratavarious that cots a million $ ,

but ,

we here what our speakers are capable of reasonably reproducing and that is where the GNX4 stands out for you in your recording of modeled amps and cabinets and in the case of this recording as a representation of the GNX4's ability to make a acoustic guitar sound really good , that is what this post is all about :)

Overall Rating : 10
This one take recording sound file is an acoustic steel stringed guitar recording of [ The Beatles } , " In MY Life " :

www. sendspace.com/ file/ u37v00

I put one space in between url to get this this review on the forum fast .

It's a Free File sharing website be patient and get past any pop ups because they do randomly pop up from web surfer to web surfer from visit to visit .

You be the judge on the sound of this recording as far as the transparency of the GNX4 , and it not adding any kind of noticeable distortion or coloration to the guitar's sound .

I want to get a super duper phantom 48 volt mic because I think this unit could do it nicely with one of those type mics for a super sound when it comes to mic'd recordings for vocals and acoustic instruments .

Easy :)

As can be expected from a unit that promises the potential that the GNX4 offers there is A LOT here to wrap your head around. But the way I look at it, if you're going to make an investment of $500 then you'd BETTER be willing to invest some time becoming familiar with at least the very basics of it's operation (ahem...for all you "musicians" who gave this a 1 or 2 for sound quality LEARN HOW TO USE THE EFF'N SPEAKER COMPENSATION SWITCH BEFORE COMING ON HERE AND IMPRESSING US WITH YOUR ILLITERATE DIATRIBES!!! Whew, I feel much better now that I got that out of the way...). There is a learning curve involved here and how steep it is depends on how deep you want to go into mastering the full potential of this thing. Fortunately, the manual is quite thorough and well written and there are plenty of examples on the Digitech website and elsewhere on the net.

This unit is not for those of you who would blow $500 a pop for instant gratification!

Sound Quality : 9
Right out of the box the presets are just okay, at least for my personal tastes. I used to work at GC and I'll tell you straight up that manufacturers presets are created to be a tool for the salesguy to demo the product, i.e. a little bit of everything for everybody's style and tastes.

There is tremendous potential here for creating sound. The unit gives you the tools, sort of like a painters pallette of colors. It's up to you to provide the inspiration to take those tools and make something of them (again, my caveat of spending some time with this thing to learn what's involved here). Create your own amp, or get the excellent set of amp models from MTProsound, dial in your effects, subtly or over-the-top, and you'll be grinning. Again, patience is involved here. However, the X-Edit software certainly helps with this task.

Through headphones (with Speaker Compensation ON), the sound is dead on. Through amps you need to run it through the effects return (with Speaker Compensation OFF) to preserve the sound that you hear through headphones. If you don't have an effects loop on your amp, try going through the front with both treble and bass to 0 and the mids to half way. The reason for this is quite simple really. The GNX4 is already a preamp. Running it through the front of your amp (another preamp} only squeezes the sound more, usually to the detriment of the original sound. If your amp's preamp doesn't have a three band EQ or an effects loop, then why are you spending 500 beans on this? Take that money and get yourself a better amp fergodsake! Then we'll talk...

Reliability : 9
No problems here. Steel chassis, sturdy switches. I am a little concerned though that there is no cleat for wrapping the oh-so-delicate power supply cable around to protect it from sudden tugs on the cable (careless handling, drunken bandmates, etc)

Customer Support : 10

Everything about this device was developed with one thought in mind-to help you become a more creative, better playing, better sounding musician and to have a load of fun doing so. With all that this has to offer there is at least something here to interest everyone. Experimenting. Practicing. Recording. Gigging. It's all right there at your feet. Just be willing to spend some time with it and you won't be disappointed

now that i've had the gnx4 for a coouple of months and the honeymoon stage is over, i thought i'd just give an update to my previous review.............................................................

the gnx4 is not the easiest mfx unit to use but it is deep in options so it has to be somewhat complex in programing to really use the available options. however, x-edit makes the gnx4 fairly easy to tweak.

i upgraded to the ultimate superpack from mfxsupermodels.com and wow, i am blown away. too many good rigs to chose from. if you can't find your extra tubey sound here...you might be deaf. i don't know why the at last reviewer didn't listen to the many, many people that suggested mfxsupermodels but he missed out on the greatest rig ever. he may be a tonal retard anyway. just to make up for that guy's terrible review, i'll help some of you guys out. let me know what amp model you are interested in and i'll send you an mp3 of that sound/preset and some info about the amp. this offer ends october 31st 2007 (this month only). it may take some time to reply to everyone but be patient and i'll try to get to you. I DO NOT WORK FOR MFXSUPERMODELS.COM NOR AM I COMPENSATED BY THEM. i'm just one really happy customer.

very difficult it??s an all in one so the menus are compressed and you need to be an audio engineer to know about the hertz or a good equalitation, so if you have a lot, really a lot (months) time and extra money to purchase the tutorial books thet explain who to use all the functions you will know all the utilities that this machine have

Sound Quality : 2
i plug in in fender, marshalls (transistor and valve amps) and in a P.A system with a fender stratocaster and ibanez ax100, this is the worse part of the gnx4, when you plug in any guitar amp and put any of the simulation amps and cabinets, distortions, overdrives and fuzzes that this thing has, you will have a lot of saturation a dirty and unpleasant sound and believe me you??ll need a lot of time ( months) to have a good sound that satisfice you, this thing sounds good in a P.A. system very digital but sounds good, THIS THING IS BAD FOR PLUG IN A GUITAR AMP, other defect it??s that you need a direct box cause this thing up the pitch of the guitar even with the comp speaker button on you wont have a good sound

Reliability : 5
metallic carcase, but after 6 months some buttons don??t work , the power supply do??n??t work, the knobs too loosen and here in mexico it??s practically imposible to get them

Customer Support : 8
the customer support are great they answer next day but it??s a short answer not very explicit special if you need a lot of information to solve a problem with the gnx4, good

i play progressive, industrias, blues, hard core, for 5 years and had a lot of this divices, about the gnx4 delays, whammy and some effects are good very digital but good, distortions and amps simulators are awfull when you connect in to your guitar amp, this a marketing device more than a musical, cause later you buy the gnx4 you need a cd with a digital equalitation, a book of tutorials a flash card, a direct box and at least you wont soun awesome, i hate digitech they only thing in the money they win with this pedalboards. DON??T BUY IT

Easy to work with. The manual is good if you read it once or twice. Firmware 1.3 and no upgrades since mine is current. Getting sounds is easy and if you've worked with a modeler it should be no different. If you are new to modeler, take your time. Use the speaker componsation button in the correct output modes. There are quite a few and they are self explanatory if you read the manual and use the illustrations.

Sound Quality : 10
I use it with a Tech 21 power engine. Sounds great. I use it with guitars from Fender N-Ville Tele and LP Classic. No noise. Pretty quiet. I don't like gates up high. Even set low it is quiet. All the effects are cool. Sound qual of the recorder is really good. I run thru my stereo sys on the XLR jacks and to a small mixer. Nice full sound.

I play rock, alt and blues. Fits them all. Favorite feature is its routing outputs and choices of configuration. Pedal assign. Nothing to hate :) I wish it came with models from the mfx guys :P I had a pod pro and GT-8 and sold them. I can make music anytime day or night. I can mic my amp and go right to the recorder if I want. Mixing with pro Tracks isn't bad but I plan on getting Sonar soon. Anything else?? Like the other guys here. Grab the Ultimite model sounds for amp models! Just like I went more for the modeling extras in Line 6, I say the same for the GNX4. Some things are better and mfx discs are that.

Had mine two months and sent it back. I bought another one after other pedals didn't satisfy me either. Sounds were buzzy but i was using it wrong the whole time I had it. Speaker compensation was not pushed in. That entire time I never caught on to speaker switches on the back panel. I felt like a real idiot. Don't do what I did! Firmware is 1.3 and curent. The sounds are great when you dial them. I like the pickup simulator a lot. Manual is good (if you read it).

Seem to find most any sound I want. I like the effects. Noise gates are there so no issues for me. I don't gate high so the sound is not choppy like it was on other pedal's gates. My amp is a Samson servo power amp with a pair of Velocity speakers. Sounds great.

I liked the sounds and the fact that it has very very short mute on patch changes. I like that I can record to the card without requiring a computer. I wish it came with Supermodel Amps and the Video Examples! All the rave and well worth it! I have the Hard Rock set and love the additional modeling tones. Not just one amp to tweak. Those are made by amp channel and making presets is easier than before and sound 50x better imo. I am upgrading to the Ultimate Series soon. I want more!

If you buy this thing prepare to get the MFX supermodels as well. Without those it is just a run of the mill modeler. With the supermodels ....... Lookout!. The combination of these two things is going to change the way people look at amp sound and how it is generated. Get ready to sculpt and perfect your tone because it has all that you need to do so.

Sound Quality : 10
very easy to get a good tone if you like to spend hours tweaking.... I DO. This is the art of creating tone, not plug and play. I fully agree with the reviewer below. To get to the real "meat" you have to tweak AND have the MFX Supermodels. Like the guy below I have and have had alot of gear. Preamps, heads, racks, etc, processors, Pedals, anything to get "that" tone. This thing with those models can replicate a high end tube amp and cab WITH high quality effects on top of it! In stereo! I just tweaked an MFX 6505 patch that literally destroys my 5150 head. The patch has that tube amp sag. Took me about 2 hours to tweak but man is it worth it. Best high gain tone I have EVER heard from ANY amp. Unbeleivable because I am a tube amp freak and this thing sounds better! I do run it through the effects return of 5150 tube heads but that is just for output and since it is through the effects return the power amp is essentially wide open. That helps to get some tube output grind, but the actual front end preamp tone generation is superior to the real head and most other heads I know of. I have fooled many a friend with this thing and they just can't believe it is digital. One of the tricks I have discovered is backing off of the high end settings and tweaking the frequency of the presence and treble. This really brings on a real tube amp sound like the actual amp but better. I have found the perfect combination of settings for perfect saturation and pick attack and note articulation. all I can say is WOW.

Reliability : 9
Have had it for two years now. Gigs, practice, dirt, heat, cold, beer. It's still alive and well

Customer Support : 8
good

Overall Rating : 10
Like I said I am a die hard tube man...........But I do beleive that the MFX/Digitech modeling technology has reached a point that makes it at the very least a viable partner to tube amps. Combined with a tube poweramp, the tones you can produce are out of this world. What is exciting is the fact that sample rates and processor speeds will only keep going up. This can only lead to better sounding models and the software behind them . WHew!

easy enough to get to the basic presets and get some tone out of it, but you need to spend some time with it to get to the real tonal "meat".

Sound Quality : 10
out of the box, the presets are "ok" depending on what you play through. usable at least. the real tone is in the "mfx supermodels". i bought only the rock/metal amp set for $47. after loading up my very first choice amp model "engl drv" i started grinning ear-to-ear. preset after preset blew me away, which is not easy to do since i've been playing guitar for over 28 years and studio engineering for 17 years. i thought i'd try my hand at writing a new supermodel preset, easy enough to do, but not even in the same league as the mfx supermodels. the guy who made those presets is a genious! he had to have tons of gear to analyze the real amps to come up with presets this good. i'm going to pay up the extra $68 and upgrade to the ultimate package ($115 total). when you buy this rig, buy the mfx supermodels (http://www.mfxsupermodels.com/) and you will not be disappointed. i have thoroughly tried/used many other rigs before settling on this on. i tried the podxt live, v-amp pro, gnx3000, rocktron prophesy, and many real tube heads and preamps. this is the way to go. this thing has so many features and connections it's ridicules.

so far no problems. after years of using digitech gear i feel that i can trust it.

I was demoing this at Guitar Center and the guitar salesperson had no idea how to use it and promptly pushed me on a Pod Xt and Xt live. Those were alright but I wanted the recorder feature. I bought the GNX4 and took it home. Having it for a few months and learning more made me realise the potential of the pedal. The manual was good but there are more sites and the workstation forum to help understand better. There are sites with more descriptions and tutorials at the workstation and supermodel site.

Sounds by the factory were good but heavy on effects like the PODS. I just turned them down. I learned about the speaker compensation buttons and that is important to know. Using with an amp, off. With headphones or recordings ON. Some say keep it on all the time but my amp works fine with it off. My guess is that buttons setting can make reviews be a "1" instead of a "10". Firmware is 1.3 currently.

The editor is simple to install and easy to use. It has options for the GNX save load, and direct to your comp. Also comes with Protracks Plus recording suite. I think its like Sonar or Cakewalk.

Sound Quality : 10
Sound is good as long as you use it correctly with the compensation switches. I just started running through a pair of GEMINI powered 15's and it sounds great. My amp is a Crate gfx and I go through the loop bypasses the preamp in my amp like many have said to do. Noise is not a problem. Using a N-ville Tele or Schecter C1 plus sounds great. I had a GNX1 and the effects were kind of in the background. The GNX4 has better hardware and chips and sound more alive to me. I looked at sites and the forums and added the Classic pack supermodels. Those knocked me to the floor. Marshall and Fender amps were juicy and warm in sound. I can't recommend those enough for the GNX4. The stock sounds were fine. Now by adding new models made the real difference for me. Notes extend and sustain in far better. Dropping guitar volume cleans up better than before.

Reliability : 10
Only one gig to report but sounds were awesome. After about 10 band practices and moving around it still works. I have to buy a case for it. I'd say its dependable.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Support was fair. I email about a version description and it was 2 days for a response. No big deal since I sent as a customer service and not a techical question.

Classic Rock covers and it matches up for us. I discovered more with the model addition and video examples of using the GNX4. Details about assign of switches and things I never thought of before or wanted to attempt. It's easy to use now and makes using it in the band much better. I thought it all had to be done in many presets but the examples show me how to do it all with one preset or a few. For recording it can't be beat. I use the recorder 8 tracks without a computer and love it. Favorite part is Reamp. On my recording I can set a track dry and change presets and those are reflected in my recording for testing out different sounds on tracks. Really cool!!! I had the Tonelab desk version that I liked but the GNX4 is ten times that in features. You need a compact flash card to use the recorder. I paid $32 from newegg for a 2gb size. I used to have the Tonelab and a Fostex 8 track recorder now the GNX4 is my new baby! So many great things about the GNX4 to list, some I overlooked when first trying it out. Once you have it and get experienced with it then you know how useful it really is.

Easy to use: turn knobs, press buttons. Editing: simple and you can go deep into tweaking if that's your thing. Manual: the best of it's type I've ever seen, and crossed referenced very well. Getting good sounds: read the manual, or as we say in the IT profession, RTFM.

Digitech calls this a Worksation and not a modeling pedal because it's desgined to go from practice, to creative inspiration, then on to recording and live play. How long would it take you to buy and then learn the ins and outs of a separate recorder, drum machine, multiple effects boxes or a multi-effect box, a looper, and an amp modeler?

Sound Quality : 10
Sound: It's subjective. A lot of us get tones our ears like and some of you aren't liking what you're hearing. I don't know how you should configure this with the guitars, amps or monitors you have available, or how much time you should spend tweaking. But consider that the lack of tone you're getting may not be the unit's fault. With the number of people that gave this a 7 or higher, maybe you haven't found the sweet spot with your setup, or haven't found the tone setting option, like speaker compensation, that will make this work for you. A '1' rating seems really harsh, and when it's in every category, is suspect, like you're really PO'd or, sorry to say this, immature.

Effects: very usable, a good variety, and range in sound qulaity from OK to good. I like the selection of distortion boxes the best, although it's really fun to play around with all the other ones.

Amp models: I really don't care what's being modeled. I need a rich clean, a tight crunch, a naturally compressed and sustain filled lead, and a thundering scooped tone. Those are all there. The ability to perform deep editing and change the amps character is impressive.

Bass amps: The bass amps and cabs kick hard! I'm a gigging guitarist and bass player and I'm having a blast with these.

Reliability : No Opinion
I can't rate this because a month is too soon to tell. The unit seems fairly tough. I'd never gig without a backup, no matter what kiind of gear we're talking about.

For 30+ years I've been playing rock and country with a Fender Tele Deluxe, Gibson ES355, G&L Leagacy, and Ibanez RG and use MuiscMan combos. I have a sinful number of pedals and other gear. The GNX4 is a tool for me to practice, create, and record, and I hope to be able to use it for live play either as an effects pedal in front of my combos or as a full modeler thru a pair of Atomic Amps I'm considering buying. I love the ability to practice, create, and record from a single unit. There's nothing I truly dislike. The day I bought this I was actually planning to get an XTLive, but I hit the internet to do price research before leaving the house and saw this and thought, hmmmm. The fantastic number of features sold me on it even though the XTL would be cool too.

What I'd like to see: a unit where you tell it the guitar you're using and that you want the tones from AC/DC's Back in Black. It configures your tone to that, offers a usable drum pattern with tempo, maybe a bass line to go with it, and off you go. If there's a clean passage in a song, then a crunch, then an acoustic part, the unit would create the patches for you, including effects. I'd use these patches as the basis for my own sounds as well as cover song duties.

I am writing this to defend a product I have come to appreciate over the last several years I have owned it. I don't know what precipitated that last unprovoked rant, but it seems rather silly. And who writes to bash a product they have never owned and have probably never used first hand? The product is probably about as easy to use as it can be considering the number of features it has. Look at the features and make a decision if you really need all that stuff though, or it could be more worth your while to buy something simpler with a newer generation processor. The screen could also use an upgrade to an LCD to make more parameters visible at one time.

Don't get me wrong, this thing only deserves a 7 or so if you rate how it sounds out of the box. If you go www.mfxsupermodels.com you can purchase different upgrades from a giant library of amp models that sound way better that what the unit shipped with. When digitech upgraded through the GNX series from GNX1-4, the capabilities of the units increased, but they never bothered to utilize the increased capabilities in the newer units to make the amp models any better. The guy who sells the upgrades is sound engineer who figured out how to do his own sampling of amps to create amp models. The result is 100% better that the original digitech models. Ok maybe it still only deserves a 9 or so, but I have to offset what the guy (read goofball) below rated it. You also have to rate these kind of things within the context of what they are. This is a "jack of all trades" kind of device, and for that, it sounds quite good. I also own an Fender Blues Deluxe, and of course the Blues deluxe model does not sound quite as good as a real Fender--duh! but it can also sound a lot more like a real marshall or bogner - or whatever - than my Fender can, no matter what kind of stomp box I put in front of it. Not to mention that the GNX 4 is alot easier to control for different venues or for PC recording than my Fender is. If you happen to have $50,000 laying around to build a home studio and by tons of different amps, mics, effects etc. knock yourself out. Of course you will get a better sound. But for $600 (price including upgrades) you will be hard pressed to get a better sound or find an easier way to record.

Sturdy enough. Unlike my Fender. I had to get it fixed after it got a BROKEN INPUT. Go figure. It does have a bit of a bug with the card reader, but nothing that interupts any of it's functions. If I shut it off when it is on a smart card preset, when I turn it on again, I have to switch the preset to the next number before it will output any sound (See customer support below). It needs a little jog in order to read the card correctly.

Easy to get ahold of and talk to. Very prompt response on email. I spoke to them about the above problem. The device is out of warranty, so it would cost me a flat rate of $85 to get it fixed. At this point, the problem it is only a minor irritation and not worth spending the money to fix.

I play metal, a bit of jazz, and worship music at church. I have been playing daily for 17 years. I own: PRS Custom 24, Ibanez RG270, LTD M207, Samick L5 knockoff and a cheap LTD 5 string bass. Old Yahmaha keyboard. Amp- Fender Blues Deluxe. GNX2, GNX4, various pedals, mostly DOD, and a Morley wah.

I'm not a user, that would be a mortal sin... however, the only thing that really matters to me is how it sounds, and I do have something to say about that. (read on)

I am a sound engineer, Pro Tools certified, AND a guitar player, so take heed of what I am saying. I've heard this being used by a couple of different guitarists in different styles of music and it sucks. Has no life, no energy. Distortion sounds 'phasy' with no definition, punch or clarity. Definitely sounds extremely digital- btw, that's a bad thing. Clean channels are too bright, harsh... Through SM57's this sounds sound even harsher, and through solid state amps just make me wanna shoot my head. You want to get some punch get a Mesa, or for some serious distortion that sounds like a monster will come out of the speakers and kill you, a Bogner Uberchall. You're definitely going to pay for that, but if you can't afford it, then get some analog distortion, or a couple of Boss pedals, which sound 100 times better. For the price of this junk, you can get all you need in nice little stomp boxes and have money for the patch-chords and the power supply's.

If you're a kid, you're 13, and your learning, fine, buy Digitech stuff.. if you're a professional, or even a working musician with some sort of public appearances, please, get yourself a nice tube amp, a nice guitar, and be done with it.

Too many plastic parts... not something you would consider stepping on I would say. Also, the inputs on these things go dead... i've see this issue on gigs as well. All Digitech pedals included.

I play classic rock and metal. Also been playing for 6 years.
I have Fender Strat, ESP Kirk Hammett, Les Paul, Mesa Boogie Triple Rec,
Fender Deluxe.

I think there are better remedies for achieving tone, and quality sounds.
Even amp modeling doesn't do the job in the studio like a real stack cranked to the sweet spot would, but they work.

For those of you who don't know, the converters on these digital pedals are bad. Digital conversion in these also causes 3rd order harmonic distortion... which is also bad. Not to mention jitter, lack of coloration and character, and no headroom.

That's all.

Took a chance and have this GNX4 now. Funny how many guys dont realize the potent power right below them. Out- o- da- box tones are like most modelers and lack. I used the speaker comp switches on and it killed the fuzzies. Editing is easy and easier once you watch some of the videos from mfxsupermodels site. Do that and you are Golden! The manual has strong and weak points. I have firmw 1.3 and no changes since then.

Dont forget, this is a recorder,mp3 player and a shlew of other things with Comp Flash access.

Sounds Fine. No bizz no buzz no noise. Through my Les its not too harsh like the GT-8 I tried. Effects are Golden! Love em! I also use a Mesa 20/20 power amp and will find a Sim90 soon. It also does kewl jobs with the Crate Powerblock. I can find satisfying tones easy. I have the superdisc model pack and its awesome! thanks to guys who suggested these libraries of sound! I had all the Pod packs too with my XTL but really like what the packs made for GNX4 better. I'm getting an ear candy cabinet since its so recommended. Ear candy to go with Ear candy!! hoo haaa

using my GNX4 live 2-3 gigs a month. People love my sound. Thanks go out to Matt, Greg and Mike (G3456), the prosound guys who made the superpacks. They helped me fine tune my sounds with my crappy Sheffield speakers. I emailed them at 1am and NEVER expected an answer in 5 min. They answered a few min later! I'm in AZ, I think that's around 4 am there time!! Wow! The GNX4 case is metal and its pretty tough. As long as I dont jump on footswitches I should be good a while

Digitech reps were always helpful. I have not used them though. The upgrade is the supermodels packs since Digitech never made a pack to support the item. Sometimes it can be better that way. No repairs yet to talk about. I have heard the USB port can get damaged if ya step on it. Duh!

Pretty much play hard stuff and alt for the last 12 years. I have an XTLIVE, had the Gt-8, GNX3000 and a few boss stompboxes. If stolen Id buy another no doubt. I comp this to the GNX3000 and the guys are right. The GNX3000 latency is too high for Live Use. Prolly why its gone down in price. POD sounds like doo doo to me and I don't like variax guitars. GT-8 was like the Pod. Thin and fizzy less control.

I love control assigns. Thank goodness Digitech made this so kewl! I did some homework picking out modelers and this option is great for LIVE. I can select from 160 presets with CF card and User locations. Easy. With the superpack it just gets better. Big Kudoes to those guys!

Recording- oh yeaaaah! It does that well! I have a 2G CF and have not ever ran out of space yet. No computer and get the tracks in quick. Add the ProTracks (I have Sonar) and its better. REAMP is the best. Select dry recording and reamp away testing guitar sounds without ever having to retrack them. Here again, the prosound guys answered all my Q's about this. I sent them so many emails they prolly hate me by now but they answer every time!! This whole thing is just easy and I dont see a better one coming. A huge combo of uses, adding superpacks give a library of amps to pick. The recorder and mp3 player for practicing and a pretty kewl drum machine Pods and Boss will not add.

easy to use. i've had it for two years. Sounds great.

Sound Quality : 6
After two years I thought that it sounded pretty good. I tweaked and got what I thought were great sounds. I guess that's all that my ears were used to. I purchased the supermodel pack and it gives you alot more options as well. But.......... reality hits and after playing straight through my 5150 tube amps I have to say the sound is thin. Still very good but you can hear the digital element. Kind of like comparing a vinyl record to a cd. No warmth and fatness. I like the fact that you have alot more sound choices but it is a compromise. I guess my ear is changing again.

Good for what it is, think I'll go back to just three or four great tube amp sounds. The love affair is over. After all, thats what modelers are trying to emulate anyway, great tube amps. Ain't nothin like the real thing baby! I will keep it though just have it around for something different.
