Sounds digital, thers no denying it but if thats your thing then the unit provides. It does for me, very 80's an all. If anything it is a bit noisy but not too much. I compromise for the sound of this greeat unit. Not sure about the noise gate though.

Now, i'm on my second 21 pro as the first one(second hand) was faulty. i have also had an rp-1. a problem with all the units besides my present 21 PRO is that the distortions posess a kind of ring modulator sound. a fault that in my experience seems common with the units age.

I play alot of 80's style guitar which i find the digitech perfect. I am pleased with the processor as it gives me a very distinctive sound. I also find the sound inspiring to play on.

It was at first a little confused to program because you don't actually see where in the cycle-menu you are. You access everything with buttons and I think it is more confortable to use a rotating knob. I tried the MIDI with a BOSS DR-5 but get a little disappointed because of the restricted program change numbers it has.

I give an 8 because of the poor sustain specially in the distortion-like effects, they produce a sudden break instead of a good taste smooth decay. It doesn't possess a tuner (what a pity) nor a harmonizer. I love the Chorus, tap-delay and Flange although it requeries to know some specific details about the size of room, frequencies, etc. Well nowdays you have to be a musiciangeener.

Taking into consideration that I previously had some plastic-things (like Zoom 3030). This is well constructed. I opened the device and everything is perfectly. If it were possible to give and advice to those Digitechs I just want to suggest that the transformator has a greater ventilation area, it tends to emulse to much heat. Respect to the Foot Controler it is easy to use, it has a LCD cristal display where you can see the name of the patch but I would add to the display the mapping for the patches (just to see what set and program you are in)

I haven't had problems with it yet and I hope not to because I have heard that they don't offer that good service specially overseas. In the States it is a regular service.

I basically play from light jazz to heavy metal with some "mescolanza" of Bach. I primarily use the GSP with a basswood Ibanez RG with Seymour Duncan pickups on a little marshall valve state.

You have to take a lot of time to get to where you want with this thing. Who really has all that time to spare? It does have a lot of editing patch capabilities and controls. It's really ard to change guitars with it. You have to set up different patches for each. After using a patch for a telecaster, plug in a les paul and you get digital blow out. Too much work. Much nicer to just play and stomp a box when needed.

Can be noisy at times. Just sounds too digital and fake. My Boss stomps are much more real and full sounding. Most distortion and fuzz sounds are sort of lame. I've used it with my two solid stae Peaveys and a Fender twin. Don't get me wrong... You can eventually find some nice ear candy from this thing...It's just that it does take a search. Can be fun if you have the time..But I have found that my Boss boxes sound much more real. The totally clean and glassy sounds are the best. reverb is nice.

No problems here. I have used it gigging. I now use my "Real Tube" by Tube Works and Boss Compression Sustainer and Digital Reverb (sometimes a little Boss chorus, flange, and super phase). Anybody wanna buy this Digitech thing? e-mail me...I'll sell it to ya cheap.

Ahhh where can I start. Yeah, you can get good sounds out of it. Takes a bit of tweaking but, you can get there. I didn't get a manual with but, it seems to me to be pretty self explanatory really. The sound is ok but the distortion is lacking!
Sound Quality
:

The sound is good. Remember. ALL THIS DOES IS MAKE NOISE! It does not perfect everything. What people who have previously scrawled should remember is that an effects unit is not going to make everything sound great. Pickups, Amps, Amp settings, etc play a large part in the process as well. Personally, the distortion is kinda sad. Needs a little more balls to it... but, you can get what you want my playing with the digital graphics EQ. Besides the distortion everything is pretty cool. I had a zoom 505 and replaced it with this. I miss things like Chorus and Wah... but, a couple bucks on some pedals, no biggie.

It's dependable, I haven't had a problem with it. As for a gigging withit without a backup, I personally do not recommend any guitarist doing a gig without a backup for anything he is using.

Yes, believe it or not I picked it up for under 12 dollars. And it is in perfect working order. For the price I can't complain but, if I had to pay full price, I may reconsider. PS. which is the better model? The GSP-21 Pro or the GSP-21 Legend? If you know, drop me an email. petrice@provide.net

This was my first multi unit, but I got the hang of it real quick. Like the users below, pushing that damn right-arrow got old. You had to be REALLY willing to work with it to get some of the settings tweaked well (see below). Overall, this was a good LEARNING experience in the world of rack gear.
Sound Quality
:

Here we go: Thru a Marshall solid-state, it was a little harsh. Thru a power-amp into a 4x12, it was a little sterile. But into a MusicMan 65-Reverb head (2 EL-34 tubes) it sounded pretty darn good!! Direct into a mixer though, forget it - it was grainy as hell and NOISY! Like I said, if you were willing to be patient and work with it, you COULD get SOME good sounds - e.g., I really liked the multi-tap stereo delay. It could have used a LOT more available delay time. Distortions (yes, I agree) sucked - I relied more on my amps for that. Overall though, I would have to say "grainy" is the word.

It was a pretty darn dependable unit. Though doing an outdoor gig you had to be careful to shade the footpedal - a couple times the sun was right on the pedal, the plastic "swelled," and rendered the pedals useless.
I only once had a problem (right after I got it) that DigiTech later solved. I made the mistake of plugging in the footswitch while the unit was on, and fried the RAM. I mean FRIED (see cutomer service, below). There was no warning to that effect in the manual, so DigiTech very kindly declared it "not my fault" and repaired & returned the unit within a week.

During my "fried RAM" disaster, DigiTech was VERY helpful & accommodating. After I shipped them the rack for repair, they shipped it back STILL not working. They apologized, and said they would now replace it once they got this defective unit back. Well, within 36 hours of this call (and a lot of UPS-Red shipping) I had a new unit that worked perfectly.

I don't know that I would buy another unit like this. It was kind of a pain in the butt to change parameters, even out levels, etc. The sound quality seemed a tad lacking in light of the price tag. And despite my excellent experience with their Customer Service, I find that with every new DigiTech unit that comes out, the durability/sound quality are going progressively downhill. I'd rather see them turn out fewer products in favor of higher quality.

I bought this thing without the manual about 1 year ago. Ive used other effect processors, but Im still not 100% sure Ive mastered all the features on this thing. I bought it under the assumption that it would take care of all my effects problems, and therefore I could stop buying $50 effect boxes by the truckload. I was so very wrong. Its a pain to try and get ANY of these effects to sound decent and each effect has at LEAST 10 changable options(equivalent to 10 or 15 knobs on a pedal). This gets so old and frustrating. More options does not mean better(MXR pedals rock!!). The 10 pedal pedal board is a pain too. Its all around irritating, but I did figure it out, so you probably would too.

There is not ONE good distortion sound on this whole thing. Almost all the effcts are choppy and digital(which I actually thought was going to be a good thing before I bought this)and thin. I play through a 100w Carvin tube head and a mesa 4x12. I dont know anybody who uses this processor, and I imagine somebody could get plenty of sounds they liked out of this thing. I just found the whole thing to be weak and lame. Some of the flange and delay effects are OK though.

First of all, I would never gig with this thing. Second of all, I would be afraid of breaking the cable because Digitech cant replace the thing. It a rack mountable thin metal casing , which feels pretty flimsy. Im trying to sell the thing right now.

Out of the 100+ effects it has, a few are usable, and I guess it could possibly come in handy in a studio, But overall, I was very very dissapointed. It works, and it does have effects , but thats not enough. Its like owning a TV, but the only channel you have is the home shopping network. If I didnt want some of my money back, I would pull a pete townsend on this thing at a show.

I've had my Digitech since it first came out, and I bought the Pro chip to go in it later. It's pretty easy to use, but if you're not familiar with some of the terms of programming, it can be rough.

I use a Fender Strat and a Crate half-stack, and the sound is really good. The only problem is that I because it's digital instead of analog, you can't clean up your sound with the volume knob on your guitar. You have to change patches to do that. You basically have two volumes: loud and off.

It's been a really good road model, and I've used it for many, many gigs, opening for some of the big-timers on the club circuit these days, and in days past. Never had any problem. It's been dropped out of the back of the truck, and it dented the casing a little. But it still works just like it used to!

I have had one problem with them: Someone ripped my gig bag off and it had the cord in it for my foot pedal, and I cannot get a new one to replace it, therefore meaning I can't really use the GSP live nowadays, so I had to replace it with some other effects. My local music store couldn't get me one (after 10 months, they let me know that it was on back order), and Digitech, or DOD, or Kaman, or whoever it is said that they could only get them in limited quantities. Apparently, I'm not one of their select customers (even though I paid the $800 for the unit when it first came out).

I would only buy it again if there was a cleaner way to switch settings that wouldnt interrupt the settings. The only thing I really hate is that when you change settings the volume is comletely off and takes forever to adjust to the right level.
