I can get a couple of great sounds out of this thing; the input and output is a great addition.

Sound Quality : 7
I have to admit mine is actually kinda noisy, but it's pretty old and secondhand so I wouldn't judge too harshly with it on the ol' hinge and all.

I like old U2 echo-scapes so I got this thing to try and play Pride (In the name of love) and Where the streets had no name, but either me or the pedal isn't smart enough to figure it out because I haven't been able to sound anything like The Edge in those songs, even after trying endless settings.

Reliability : 7
Now here's where I'm having problems, but this is also severely biased considering the age and unknown history of the product before I acquired it. I had it at a gig and had to make a comedy out of repeatedly stepping on it because it only switches when it feels like (maybe it knows better than I do?). Also the nine volt batteries don't seem to work in it, probably just a fluke of misuse (promise it was like that when I got it).

Customer Support : No Opinion
I kinda like the hilarity of being a slave to this pedal's cranky old attitude so I haven't look into replacing it yet, plus it has some nice sounds.

Overall Rating : 8
I play punk funk reggae jazz birthday cake music and I think this thing is a serious benefit to my pop-funk sounds. I'm in love with it because it has sort of a rockin' old-ster application and a characteristic sound. My friend has a newer DOD delay pedal and I like mine a lot more, even though his has more features.

If this was stolen or lost I'd probably get something else cause I can't find another one of these for $25 at a rummage sale.

Pretty easy to use. The only real tricky part is in the sampling aspect, but even that was easy to master.

Sound Quality : 8
My setup is a Peavey Blues classic and either an American delux telecaster or a 1985 PRS. I generally use a Boss OD-3 for my leads, and a BF-2, a Bud Wah, and a Small Clone.
This unit is quiet, does add a tiny bit of treble shrill at some of the faster settings. All in all though it sounds good. Keep in mind I have had no experience with any other delay pedals

Reliability : 10
I bought it in 1988 and it has never given me trouble. I think that the battery cover is lame and tends to get misplaced. The unit eats batteries, so a plug in power source is a good idea.

Customer Support : 10
Their web-site has PDF versions of the owners manual, but other than this I've had no need to contact them.

Overall Rating : 9
I've been playing for 35 yrs, mostly original rock. If this unit were lost I would definitly look at other pedals but would use my experience with this pedal as the base to compare what is out there now. I think the 2 second sample is very handy and the range of echo and chorusy sounds that are available have always impressed me. This pedal does help me in my music.

very easy to use , once you set your input and output volume , but anyone who owns one will tell you that . very sensitive touch pads perfect for finger tap bypass and loop features

Sound Quality : 8
i use this mainly with my korg bx-3( original 1980) and hammond a-100 (modified frankestein b3) depending on wich one i'm playing ( the hammond doesn't leave the house) along with an E-H blackfinger (tube) , and a DeArmond volume pedal running into a motionsound ProT3m with the low out routed through an acoustic 370 and an ampeg SVT 8x10 (original 60's big cabinet) the acoustic and ampeg also serve as the amplifcation for my wurlidirtpiano ( 200a) , korg poly61M and yamaha sy-2 , now the important part , , , , , ANALOG , thats right this delay pedal is analog , it sounds great , instead of using large bbd chips to get 2 seconds of delay digitech used mutiple small chips with a single stepped frequency clock , genius! now there is some filering going on low pass type , most likely around 5k or so , fine by me , all delay boxes have lowpass filters , even tape delay , show me one that doesn't and i'll show my favorite finger ,:)

this is pretty easy to use, but the secret is in the mix knob. if the mix knob is set to high i find i loose volume and the signal looses tone.

Sound Quality : 9
godin radiator into a mdx1400-ns2-ph1r-ls2-(1)>fz2-hm3-(2)>ds1-sd1-H&K ats120 valve head-fxloop-mdx1400-hf2-smallclone-pds1002 into a 2/vintage30 cab.

this pedal works best with overdrive. i find when i use it with the hm-3 that the signal is muddy and confused. when used with the sd1 i get a nice fat vintage tone. it is only when i stop strumming that i can hear the effect. the effect is not noisey at all. i use it in my effects loop. i don't notice any loss in tone when it is setup correctly. i mainly use this pedal to create feedback. at this it excells. set the pedal up like lee renaldo, turn on the overdrive/distortion, mix in some chorus or phaser and away it goes. i turn it on and off and press the repeat button to vary the sounds created. the pedal also works brilliantly with the fz-2.On the clean channel the repeats are warm and distinct.

Reliability : 10
the unit is 20 something and still going great.

i have not needed customer support

Overall Rating : 10
i play grunge, alternative rock and gothic pop. this is great for the grunge and alt rock stuff. i love sonic youth and joy division. this pedal can do both. more so sonic youth though. if it were stolen i would replace it. compared to the dm-2 and ad-2 this pedal is great value.

Ease of Use : 8
Quite easy to use. I bought mine back in 1988!!! And it was great in my 80s era band. 5 knobs, a switch, dry out, easy.
I don't even remember the manual. ha ha!
mine died in about 1995. I had a guy go thru the whole thing and literally rebuild it. Cost more than the pedal new but it was worth it.
The switches on it are crap. If you get one of these pedals just get them out immediately and put in some good switchcraft momentary lapse switches. It will make the circuit board fit differently but i shimmed the bottom to make room. The difference? Bullet-proof.
But now mine is making a weird noise whenevere i even bump it (gee, after only 8 years of service). Loud popping sound. I'm sure if i can get the schematic from Digitech I can figure it out. THinking it just needs a rewire and possibly a bad chip. Must test...

Sound Quality : 8
I've had so many different amps and guitars... But right now i use a couple of late 80s strats loaded with hot rails into a VHT Valvulator, the Digitech, the Akai Headrush pedal and into a 1979 Marshall 100 watt JMP halfstack. Beautiful tone.
The Infinite Repeat is the key to this pedal. it does what the Akai cannot: loops the delays themselves. I put it on a fast speed, roll some high-pitched awful notes thru it and turn on the repeat. It's like a machine-gun attack. it's great. after every show people come up and check out the pedals i use and ask a million questions.

Reliability : 8
I left it in the closet for years while playing in an indie rock band.
But now i'm in a more "arty" punk project and it fits right in! I'm so happy i never sold it. it is totally a part of my sound.
I have been contemplating buying another JUST IN CASE. And considering the noise it's making right now, that may be a good idea.

Customer Support : No Opinion
still finding out. just requested schematic for this pedal.

Overall Rating : 8
For locking delays or using it for normal delays, it is king. if you want to be able to change delay speeds on the fly or actually make REAL loops, buy the Akai Headrush. it's better at that.
Use them both!

pretty easy to use. two foot switches is pretty convenient because it makes it easy to know what you're looping. there are three different delay times so you can have really fast or really slow or in the middle. also has five knobs to shape your sound.

Sound Quality : 10
awesome clean sound. really spacey. mix it with distortion it sounds good too.

Reliability : 10
strong metal housing not plastic. very reliable.

Customer Support : No Opinion
never had to deal with digitech so i can't rate them.

Overall Rating : 9
i really like it. i prefer vintage gear to newer stuff. i would probably get another one if it were stolen or broken but i might consider getting the pds 8000 echo plus instead because it has pretty much the same features but an 8 second delay as opposed to 2 seconds. matt talbott from hum/centaur uses this and i think thurston moore of sonic youth does too.

Ease of Use : 10
very easy to use. The most difficult part would be matching you input volume and output volume for your best match. Has controls for delay time range (up to 2 sec long, 3 stop blade switch), delay time, delay repeats, delay/dry mix, input vol., output vol. 2 footswitches for bypass and infinite repeats.

Sound Quality : 9
Great delay sounds, clean but not BOSS clean, not annoying high pitch clean. I own the PDS20/20 and that pedal has "echo" and they seem to add a little bit of dirt or grit, this pedal has "delays" and they sound cleaner. I don't know, maybe the battery needs to be changed on the other one! This is the same Delay that Lee Ranaldo of Sonic Youth uses. That tells you a lot!

Reliability : No Opinion
Don't see any problems. I know you can open it up and adjust the trim pots to get upwards to 8 seconds of delay, but I never tried this, heard it on LoopersDelight.

Customer Support : 10
Their website has a customer support form which has always been quick to reply for other products. They still have teh PDS 20/20 manual up as a pdf. format!

Overall Rating : 10
Great delay, worth every penny as I bought it in box, with poster, and in excellent condition (just some paint chips). This catagory asks about value, and it really is a great value!

Since I have 2 of these (PDS 1002 & PDS 20/20) and I am going back to school, I am going to sell one. If you are interested in either, feel free to email me jadczak@hotmail.com BUT I WON'T SELL BOTH! I need this pedal to help me in my experiental guitar playing . . . " it is not only possible, it is essential ! "

Easy as pie. There is about 5 knobs, 1 switch, 2 pedals, infinite possibility. There are no patches, and I have no manual. I love it though.

Sound Quality : 10
I use a PRS CE-22 and an Epiphone Special I with it, and they both sound great with it. it isn't noisy unless you make the noise on the guitar, and the effects always sound rich. I use a Fender Bullet amp, but have played it on much larger, and in concert, and it sounded awesome. You can sound like David Gilmour, The Edge, or anyone else who likes to use Delay. Sounds analog...

Reliability : 10
I can depend on it, only I can't on the power supply. I would and have used it live, and it worked fine.

Customer Support : No Opinion

Overall Rating : 10
I think this pedal is perfect for anyone with any style of music that uses delay. I would definately have to buy another one, if I could find it. They are old. I only wish I had five of them. Two seconds is a large amount of time for a guitar pedal, it's all you need. You can play a 1 measure riff, then get it to repeat with the other pedal, while playing solos or practicing. The coolest pedal I have.

This is a 'Hands on' friendly box, the right amount of knobs for good live tweaking. I use it as a mainstay delay effect.

Sound Quality : 8
I use my PDS 1002 first in line with a group of effects for live trombone performances, usually no sound quality issues.

Reliability : 9
Very sturdy and reliable. And there are times when I need REALLY sturdy equipment.

Customer Support : 7
Repairs have helped extend the life of this effect, although now I really need to replace it. I am looking to buy again the same model.

Overall Rating : 9
Absolutely adds to my playing. A great box for electronic/art rock horns, it not only complements my noises but becomes a seperate instrument - like a kind of sample playing/scratching tool. Could use more regeneration, but captures long notes for infinite repeats nicely.

Pretty easy overall. Just Five knobs and a three way switch between
2 sec, 500 msec, and 125 msec modes. Two pedals for operation: one
for toggling infinite repeat and the other for turning effect on and off. One knob for mix, delay time, number of repeats, input, and output. Didn't get manual cause i got it used but should be fairly easy. If you find setting for other pedals, like at a BOSS webstite, it shouldn't be hard to adapt to this pedal.

Sound Quality : 9
I am currently using it with a cheap Fender Mexican Strat and cheap Fender amp in a chain that goes as follows: Dunlop CryBaby 535 wah,
DigiTech XP-100 Whammy/Wah, BOSS MT-2 Metal Zone, BOSS PH-2 SUPER Phaser, BOSS BF-2 Flanger, and finally the PDS 1002. I hope to eventually have the PDS 1002 hooked up in stereo(effect out to one amp, dry out to another). It works well with my guitar and is quiet.
It is unique sounding and produces an odd sound when I bend high pitched notes(either high fretted high E notes or notes bent higher by the XP-100 Whammy). It is sort of like an odd modulated whoosh that is faint at low volumes and becomes more noticable with more volume, distortion, and higher effect mix. Really trippy with my distortion box. For some, it might be bad, but I like it.

Reliability : 10
Yes, it is solid metal and I got it used and it works good. It was
made in 1987 and it is still holding up so something tells me it should do fine. 14 years and still goin' strong.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Did not deal with DigiTech.

Overall Rating : 10
I play mostly hard rock like Metallica and Ozzy, Rap rock like Limp Bizkit and Korn, and Art rock like Pink Floyd, Hendrix, and Rush.
It is definitely good for arty and experimental stuff, maybe not necessary for straight ahead metal/rock.( Then again Randy Rhoads used delay.) I would buy it again for its uniqueness. I like the easy double pedal three-way switch design and the weird modulation with bent high notes. I did some comparison with BOSS and was going to buy a BOSS DD-5 but I saw this pedal for $85 and that one for $150 and decided to go with the unique one. It helps inspire to write and never really gets in the way. It is a good overall pedal, albeit hard
to find, and I would reccomend it to those in the market for a delay pedal.
