The only time it ever broke (my fault) Digitech fixed it for free I think.that was in 1987.You do not need a backup,if you take care with it.

The RDS 3600 is a second generation digital delay with analog controls. It has the following rotary controls on the front panel: Speed, Width, Delay, Feedback (-100% to +100%), Mix, Output and Input. It also has the following push buttons on the front panel: Flange, Chorus, Double, Echo, Repeat Hold and Effect (in and out). The delay time appears in a 4-digit window. The rear panel has the following: Input, Dry Out, Mix Out, Phase Out, Delay Kill, Repeat Hold, Sync, and VCO Control Voltage. It also has a slider switch called Maximum Echo Time (Sec). This switch lets you select the maximum delay, 1.5 seconds, 3.6 seconds or 7.2 seconds. It also has an internal power supply. The delay times range from 1 millisecond to 7,200 milliseconds. On occasion, my display has shown a maximum delay time of 8,444 milliseconds (8.444 seconds).
The knobs and switches make this unit very easy to operate. However, since it is not programmable, you may want to write down your favorite settings. The Speed and Width controls can be used to introduce gentle chorus or flange effects. They can also be used to wildly modulate longer delay times. In addition, the Maximum Echo Time switch on the back can be used as a pitch transposer. Just select a delay time, play something, press the Repeat Hold switch to store the sound, then toggle the Maximum Echo Time switch to each of its settings. This transposes the sound by two octaves. Play a low E with the switch in the 1.5 second setting and throw the switch to the 7.2 second setting and the sound will drop two octaves. Do the reverse and the sound will rise two octaves. Want wild swooping effects? Select an echo time of a few seconds and increase the Speed and Width controls from minimum.

Since all of the knobs are very sensitive, it is possible to dial in endless variations of flange, chorus, doubling and echo. Longer delay settings have slightly less top end. However, given the date when the unit was produced, the loss of top end is negligible. This unit is a tremendous looping tool and its maximum delay time can be lengthened. See www.loopersdelight.com and click on ?Tools of the Trade? for the instructions.

The RDS-3600 has all the sounds a digital delay can produce and a few that modern multi-effects units have forgotten about. It?s a fantastic looper and its knobs and switches make it a tremendous live and/or studio tool. If you find one, grab it. It?s that cool.

I use to have a Vox Echo which use tapes. This is much better. I have had it about 8 years. I had the Vox for 32 years. I like the kind of crispness sound it gives you.

Country Music, 45 years. I built the RDS 3600 right into the front of my Vox Buckingham that I have had since 1965.
