At the beginning it is very difficult to get a good sound , as the speed, width, delay time controller behave strange. Actually when you don't have a manual, you really don't know what "delay time" or "invert feedback" does and you can't get the good sounding chorus sound. A small internet site can help you: http://www.loopers-delight.com/tools/timemachine/timemachine.html
when you get used to the controllers, you can easily change your settings - like someone said - "on the fly" and get the sound you always wanted...
Take care, it's a 110 V Version , eventually you need an 220 to 110 Transformator , if you are not living in USA or Japan...

This is the most exciting point. Everyone who visits harmonycentral looks at the "Sound Quality" entry.
My Setting: Ibanez SA160QM > Lexicon Alex Reverb > RDS 1900 > Peavy Envoy - clean channel (sometimes an behringer acoustic simulator). Little noise at high output range...but you are only disturbed if you are as sensitive as i am (because i just play clean, and i need perfect clean sound with no noise at all!)
On the one hand you can get really old and nostalgic chorus sounds like the one of Led Zeppelin , you can get nice Slap Back, you can get a warm jazzy chorus and you can even get a fast tremolo (high speed, low width, flange setting , sonds like fantastic vibe). But you can't get really deep incredible flange or chorus effekts and the echo sounds very linear and not as smooth like other echo/delays i've heard. It's not good for delays or echo , and it's not good, if you want the deep "come as you are" chorus (at one point the chorus gets too diffuse, too disharmonic). But you can get great warm rhodes or swirling chorus which underlines every picking or chord.
All in all: for sound of the past it's great, but it can't mess with the new modern super hyper devices - but who cares? The old sound is what i have been searching for. One you got your settings , you can't miss this device in you setup and the beatiful, decent sounding.

Had to open and fix/isolate some parts of the transformator, as it made some metallic noise because of contackt with the case. Besides of this, it's solid made - in USA (those were the days)- and very reliable.

Support? Even miditech does not know that this device was ever prodced :) - joking - this device is too old (my from 1990), there is no support anymore

I play guitar for about six or seven years, developed from rock to chilly jazz and psychodelic smooth music (floyd, zeppelin). Mostly I play non distorted. First I wanted to sell the RDS 1900 again, as it sounded crappy and i was not able to get strong sounds out of it - then I sat down and checked all settings until founding the sound I liked. And I guess everbody can get the sound he or she likes, when spending some time with getting familiar with this nice old lady. I love the honest old sound, but only the chorus/flange. I don't like the echo...and the loop swich is nonsens at all, you can't loop anything with your simple 1,9 sec memory...The RDS 1900 helps me being creative, and I ALWAYS use it , like an reverb effect...
If it would be lost, i would not buy another, as there are no more left in this new modern equipment society...

I have every processor in the book, but have been looking for another rds 1900 because i could get any sound out of it with a simple tweak.

the noise level was never great, but with the applications, this is negligible.

This baby was dumped out of band vans, beer drenched, etc. and kept on ticking. Finally met her demise when an idiot bar owner plugged our rack into a mis wired 110 outlet...yep 220.

I played everything (cover band doing receptions) now work as an engineer at a studio, and still dream of the ease of changing sounds on the fly.

It took a little while but then it was my first delay unit. Once I began to learn the function of each of the controls things got a little easier. Some controls behaved really weird!

I use mine with a standard Strat and a Fender Hot Rod DeVille 410.
The only time it really seems noisy is if I have the output control set a little high. I only use it in delay mode but am pretty happy with the way it sounds assuming that it gets set up properly.
I have used it on U2, Eric Johnson, and Free ....and it seems to do what is required very well.

The thing has been a tank for me. It has been dropped...had the knobs knocked off...and it still works fine.

My style is blues-rock. I don't use heavy delay settings...real easy on the repeats. For what I want of it...it is good.
I probably would not buy it again...simply because the DL-4 is out now and seems to answer a LOT of delay issues. It does really add to the sound though...thickens it up..makes it deeper.

I use this with a Marshall amp, it sounds great, with no noise.
The flanger is very effective, and the chorus sounds smooth.

I like the reapeat hold feature, and often play solo's against a repeating chord. I would buy another if this was lost or stolen.
