It has Knobs! Very rare nowadays. Very easy.

Sound Quality : 9
Sounds awesome. Very warm delays. The chorus and flange sound rich too. Although you can only use one or the other (delay, chorus, Flange). There is no button to press to switch to chorus or flange. You have to tweek it in. For example, to get chorus, you turn down the delay time delay level and time down all the way and tweek the width and feedback (or something like that. I just bought mine yesterday) You can go from slap-back to very long (even unnecessary) delay. You can even get some rool unrealistic / nonmusical sounds from it by tweeking the knobs while playing guitar. Great for trippy stuff.

Its built like a tank. Just had for a few hours, but the guy i bought it from said he had it since 1990 and he never had a problem with it. I've played around with it for about two-three hours. I didnt find any problems.

They suck. They know nothing about their own shit. I called to ask if you can use chorus and delay or flange and delay together for the RDS 4000...The guy didnt even know what the hell I was talking about!!! He was like WHAT IS THE RDS 4000!!! So he took my cell number and said he'll call back in 15 min........that fool never called.

Overall Rating : 10
I play a lot of shoegazer, dreampop type stuff. This thing is better than any BOSS DD pedal. Its smarter, longer delay, way more versatile. Its got a hold/repeat button. Use it with a foot swith and you got yourself a very underrated and forgotten delay. That is if YOU CAN FIND ONE...HA HHAA HHHHAAAA HHHHHAAAAA HHHHHHAAAAAA HHHHHAAAAAAAAA

Worked well out of the box, had it since 1986. Has never failed, it is a very quiet unit (important for recording) so it gets used alot. I also use it for live performances, but sometimes it gets to be a little over done (i think mostly operator error here).

Sound Quality : 9
It does what it says, and does it well. It is a very quiet box (hardly any noise) and when you plug into it, it works well for reverb, chorus, delay (my personal fav) and flange. I use the flange when doing home recording, and the chorus and delay for vocals. Would not trade it!

Reliability : 10
It has outlasted 3 PA systems, 5 amplifiers, and 2 crossovers. It has seen alot of use since I bought it new in 1986.

Never had to call them!

Overall Rating : 10
I play a wide variety of styles. I have used this for both guitar and vocals, and am very happy with it. If you can find one (and that is hard) it is as good or better than most pedals or rack mounts, and has a killer signal to noise ratio that will apeal to even the most discerning tastes (tone snobs will love this one)

Very nicely laid out and simple to use. Once you get the hang of how the settings interact with each other, it's a snap. No displays or readouts, just good ol' knobs for twistin'

Sound Quality : 9
I've used this mostly with Fender guitars and amps. I'm mainly a pedal-pusher now, but occasionally bust this guy out because of the sheer variety available. It does chorusing, reverb, flanging, and delay very well (as they're all time-based effects). It has more than enough range to get just about anything going. I've found that good reverbs are a little more time consuming to dial up, but I mostly use this for flanging and delay. I have actually never really played with the sampler function.

Reliability : 10
This sucker is about 12 years old, and has been solid the whole time. It's seen pockets of live use, but it's mostly been a home studio toy.

If you don't mind rack mounted units, and are not really concerned about having presets or fancy readouts, this thing works well. It's very much WYSIWYG (what you see is what you get). All of the effects sound great on it, and there is even plenty of room to just go nuts and experiment. Lots of fun. Highly recommended.

This is the "Time Machine", the updated version of the black series RDS delay units, with some upgraded features. It has a 12-bit VLSI engine. This model also offers up to 4 seconds of Sampling, triggered by the front panel button, a footswitch, or an input voltage.
It is a "one effect at a time" effects processor, and does that job very well. Because the knobs are laid out intuitively, it is extremely easy to tweak quickly. The manual is thorough enough to get you started.

Sound Quality : 9
i use this with my guitar rig and occasionally while mixing tracks. I like that it has an adjustable input and output level to work with line level and instrument level signals. The unit is not noisy at all and the effected signal is very clean. I also use a Lexicon reverb/delay unit, and the delays on the Digitech are just as clean if not cleaner than the LEX. The modulation effects(chorus/flange) sound excellent, especially when using the stereo outputs through 2 amps.

Reliability : 10
i have had this unit for almost 10 years and have never had a problem. i used to own the older version RDS-3600 which had these hard plastic push buttons which would come loose and get lost easily.
This model has a button that is integral with the switch, nothing to fall off. nice!

a very well made delay unit. The only thing i would add is an LED digit window that shows the exact # of msec selected. this would make it easy to reproduce the exact same settings every time.

piece of cake if you've had any experience with delay units, rackmount or pedal.

Sound Quality : 9
I use the unit mainly as studio outboard, but also in a guitar/bass rig for noise / experimental music. Sound quality is great, very clean, no real noise to speak of.
variable delay time from 16ms to 4sec.

nice and solid. as mentioned above, a removable power plug is a good sign. bought it used, no probs so far.

A great unit for anything from straightforward delay to freaked pitch bending noise & chorus effects. Generous delay time. Definitely a god buy if you can find one at a decent price.

It's pretty straightforward. Like anything you get out of it what you put into it. (speed, width- apply to chorus type effect), delay range knob with min-max from 4ms - 4secs (about 2secs) feedback 0 - 100% (number of times the delay repeats on itself. mix level % dry-wet, output, input. (sample and trigger mode)

Very good. This is the 3rd digital delay I have owned and by far the best in terms of quality. It is very quiet and leaves everything else behind. Other units set on on similar settings don't match it even SPX990's and other more expensive multi-FX. I owned a sound company for six years before having this unit stolen and it has taken me a year to find another one.

Reliability : 10
I bought this unit new to replace two other rack mounted delay units that were getting a bit old. It never skipped a beat in the five years I used it. The current one is a 92' model ans so far no probs. Having an IEC (pull-out) power lead is always a good sign for any piece of audio equipment.

Customer Support : 1
I can only ever base this question on my personal experience. I have contacted the company to ask basic questions by e-mail and never had a response. In all fairness to a large corporation my questions relate to deleted product. These guy's change their products with the wind and if your question doesn't relate to their current marketing strategy you won't get an answer. "This doesn't effect the product".

Overall Rating : 10
This is a digital delay with knobs that I use in addition to a Yamaha SPX990 for vocals and on sax and lead guitar to lift a sound and make it cut through when needed. It is used subtly except on some guitar solo's when I follow the tempo with the time knob. This is the reason I prefer knobs on a dedicated delay so I can use one finger to roll the delay time while bringing up the fader with the other and keeping my eye on what the musicians are doing. I make my living mixing sound (and lugging boxes) but I also use this delay in my guitar rig as it is footswitchable for bypass, and (triggerpulse + sample) recording and playing a second guitar part. These units are available cheaply second hand but are hard to find as they didn't sell too well. When I bought it I was dubious as it had been in the shop for about a year. I love this thing it has so many uses. It's also good for outdoor speaches with multiple speakers etc.
