I'm not all tha familiar with some of the amp models, I only use 2 or 3 (mesas and fenders), but they sound good and have definitely halped me find my sound. in fact, I can have about 3 or 4 sounds that I like. if you don't have the noise gate on, this thing will scream like a castrated howler monkey, especially on the rectifier model.
effefcts sound good enough to my ears, but the wah sucks. not that I care, I never use it.

it has been a huge help in my playing. with my fuzz pedal, all I got was a wash of noise, so I couldn't tell if I was playing right or even it tune. now I can tell both of those things, and I sound amazing, even if my playing is off. great product.

Three knobs for every parameter: who's complaining ?

I use an Epiphone Les Paul Custom, dramatically enhanced by Seymour Duncans through, until today, a low-budget amp at home (now a Marshall AVT50) and through an older Valvestate at the rehearsal-facility. This is where it gets tricky.....
The RP-100 greatly improved the sound of the cheap buggers amp, no complaints here. Problem was that when I had made some presets at home, the differences in volume were unpredictable when I used them on the Valvestate (=some too loud, others too soft).
Being the proud owner of an AVT50 now, the Digi slightly disappoints me. Even in bypass-mode, nicely routed through the Effects loop, it takes away some of the dynamics of the beautiful clean Marshall sound. The clean sounds CL1 and CL2, or Black Face with not too much gain are not as rich and warm as it comes from the amp right now, so my rating is not as high as it would be yesterday....
Distortion sounds are very usable: Stack (Marshall sound) for rhythm guitar, HiGain for powerful leads, Fuzz for heavy songs... this is okay !
Chorus, tremolo and Vibrato aren't very great, but I don't like those sounds even when they're perfect, so no complaints... Phaser and Flanger are okay.
And for the gimmicks like Auto-Yah: the kids love it, but I'd never use it in a song...

This is where I want to make a point: a lot of reviewers have complained about this, but guys: give it a break ! It's not expensive so it's not top-of-the-bill. Take care then ! Don't kick it and don't throw around with it ! If you're a bit cautious you won't break it.

The advantage in this thing is that there are only two footswitches, so it's small ! I mostly use two, soetimes three sounds in one song and then there are combinations I use for several songs (one clean, one with distortion, one for lead) so I just programmed things in a logic way....
It suits me in this way: it's easy to use, has OK sound and is affordable. Pity of the poorer quality when used with better amps...

After reading the manual just a little bit, you should have a decent idea of how to fuck with it, esp. if you have used an effects processor before and have good knowledge of amp sounds and a good ear. The best thing about this pedal is the depth of the editing for a $99 pedal

I play a beautiful black cherry Ibanez SC420 with dual humbuckers, a Peavey Transtube head, and a 4X12 Marshall cab with Celestion speakers. I put this pedal into the low gain input on the amp, as there is no effects send/return option on it. I dug it for about a month until I jammed with my old band with it. This thing sucks cranked up. After the mistake of using it with the band I played a show with it. You can't get it at a high volume and expect good tone. This thing turned out to be a fucking ripoff unless you're a beginner who just wants to get a feel for an effects processor. You can't even get a believeable metal distortion out of it, esp. if you're as picky about tone as I am. Bottom line is it sounds great quiet, shitty loud. If you're in a band that plays live/practices often, get something else, like a Boss GT-6!!!

Other than the Digitech whammy pedal, I'm not terribly impressed with Digitech. Boss and Roland has the best multieffetts out there. Save a little money and use a simple setup in the meantime, such as a Boss Metal Zone, DOD Grunge, Marshall Guvnor dist. pedal, along with any boss or DOD chorus box. The only multieffects worse than Digitech are Zooms. Never had to deal with Digitech service people.

I play basically metal/industrial/hard rock, with some bluesy solos thrown in for good taste. Once again, dont mess with this pedal if you are a professional gigging musician. It just sucks. The only thing halfway decent was the control you have over the effects. That's all I have to say. It sucks. Don't buy it.

First let me start with the bad:
The small two digit screen is hard to see at a distance, and remembering what is set on which patch is a pain. To bypass the unit, you need to press both pedals at the same time. Most of the time I ended up pressing the up or down pedal and got screwed up my timing. I don't see why you can only change the 40 user presets, the 40 factory presets are not that good, and are all over the map. No one could possibly use them all, some are twangy and some are 80 rockin, etc..
The good:
The effects are clean, and the pedal is totally quiet. You get a lot of options or parameters to play with (ie: mic placement, eq, etc)

I didn't like the distortions, any of them... The pickup selector seemed like a waste, as did the mic placement feature. Most of the effects are nice, with the exception of the whammy, wah... both useless with out the extra expression pedal. The delays are great, and I also enjoyed the flanger and phasor.

I ended up selling the unit off as it was not a good fit for me. I would say go for the RP200, as the expression pedal is needed. I was thinking of getting an A\B switch to avoid the bypass problem, but will just another unit instead.

Fairly easy, quick up and down foot control. Manual is done very well. Problem is there are only 3 or 4 presets that are worth going to, acoustic simulator, number 2, #54, and #75. All others are goofy and quite rediculous. There is virtually no sustain. It does not sound so good with smaller amps, I have a pignose 20 and peavey 60, anything larger I can't comment. Batteries drain quick, about 1 and a half hours it's history. You can use headphones directly bypassing the amp but you can hardly hear it. I should have returned it in the first 45 days.

As I said before, there are only 3 or 4 out of 50 factory presets that sound good. The worst thing is no sustain what so ever. Most of the amp modeling is crap.

I have used the pedal with my custom double humbucker fender strat &
jackson kelly guitars,On several amps Marshall stack,Fender Twin,Yamahas,Stephens etc.It does have a good range of effects no matter what amp I used it still sounded pretty much the same,I still preffer a cheap under $50 distortion pedal I own to it for distotion. The digitech seems to be lacking in that area for me not much extra sustain on it either but am content with other effects it has for the price.

I like the editing features on it,dislike the fact that you have to have self amplified headphones to hear it and the jack should be 1/4
not 1/8,I wish it had more intricate drum patterns,It does help some effects that are hard to find without a hundred different pedals or stacks. It is a well rounded processor for the price.

I am using an El Degas Les Paul clone and a Peavy Rage 158. Not much as I tend to play alone at home. The default sounds are ok but with some tweaking you can get pretty much anything you want. I was quickly impressed with the sound through headphones although I wish it could go a bit louder.
A few adjustments were required for me to get the same sounds when plugged into the amp. Nothing major though. I have also used the unit through a Marshall and a Mesa Boogie (friends stuff) and still it provided great sounds - to me anyway. Not sure why some people say that the sound is very thin. Either they have a bad unit or they aren't using it properly. Most musician friends of mine that hear it can't believe I only paid $77 dollars for it!

I play stuff from Metallica to Ozzy to Floyd to Stevie Ray Vaughn - anything with decent guitar in it. I have found that I can get the sound that I am looking for when I want it. I have found over the years that the guitar you use and how you play will HEAVILY influence the sound you produce regardless of what effects you have. Two people can use the exact same setup but sound different.
Sure I wish that the unit was a bit more flexible in that you could set more parameters... but for $77... C'Mon!! I bought a Roland GP-8 back in '88 for $1000 (CDN). It was a fantastic unit for it's time, and my friend still uses it exclusively. I find this unit sounds just as good if not better.
Scrolling through patches is not the greatest but you can work around it. How many different sounds do you REALLY need to have live??
This is the most bang for the buck I have seen so I give it a 10.

I am using it with a boogie studio preamp as a cheap multi-effect. Not noisy. The sound is 'cheap'. Not great, not terrible, but you get what you pay for, if you know what I mean. I don't like the compressor though, but there are many okay reverbs and chorus is okay. Overall - as mentioned already, nothing great but okay for someone low on dollars.

This is why I am writing. I have had terrible moments with it. It would go bonkers and flip on and off uncontrollably. I thought it was the power supply and got it replaced. Didn't help. After months of embarrassing moments live, I opened it up today and found the problem. It was shorting out when pressure was applied underneath it. If I pressed on the battery location area, it would start go crazy. I applied plastic tape and some cardboard under the screw that holds the digital card, and I did the same on a 'thingy' sticking out just beside where you plug the power in. Yeah, I am not good with technical names for these things, but if you have similar problems and want to fix it, you can email me and I'll try to explain better. It works fine now, and I'm glad I figured it out. I was about to drive over it with my car.

Overall, it gets a 6 from me. Not great sounding, but okay for subtle use. It can sound very cheap if you pump in too many effects. Subtle use is the key for me. I am mostly rating it for the sound. Considering the problems I had with it, I think it was poorly designed, plus I had a bit of bad luck. If you buy one, first thing you should do is to apply firm pressure under the battery area when it is plugged in. If it goes bonkers, you know why!

This is fairly easy to use, I would recommend reading the manuel, especially since all of the amp models are abreviated. Three knobs to turn two footswitches. I don't know how easy it is compared to other multieffectpedals because this is my first and last. You can buy an expression pedal, but not just any kind, I tried that. If you find the best prices on expression pedals I found that it would be cheaper to buy the RP200. But easy to use good manual, not too complicated.

I use either an Ibanez GAX70 or a Fernandes Native into a 50 watt marshall. I used to use this pedal, but not anymore. Now I use a Boss DS-1 and some Ibanez pedals. The sound for the RP100 is great, at least that was my opinion. When I bought this I had been playing a year and a half, so I hadn't found my sound, and I had almost no clue about what sounds would be the best, so I loved this, I still use it a little. It has some good amp sims with good distortion and overdrive. I never use the compressor, noise gate, delay (because it sucks), or the reverb (if its built into your amp then why would you use it?), or the pickup simulator, but we'll get to that later. The effects are pretty good, the chorus flanger and phaser are the best the others are crap. I used the built in tuner, until i realized that it was tuning down a half step, then a whole, now it tunes one and a half steps down! I tried the pickup simulator, until that too broke. In all the sound was okay, too a beginner it woudl be worth it, but to anyone who wants a really good sound, buy a Boss DS-1 it can get you almost as many distortions as this, but they all sound ten times better, and the boss is only $40.

I had trouble with it once and they were helpful, then I had a few questions about putting an expression pedal in, they were rude and because of them I wasted $30 on a pedal that wouldn't work with the thing. Then later I had trouble with it breaking and they told me to do a factory reset, which did nothing but get rid of the patches that I had made.

I'm using a variety of guitars....a Strat, Tele, M77, and Starfire Special. I plug it into my '65 Twin Reverb Reissue, and am constantly amazed at the clear authentic sounds I get out of it.
The amp sims so suck, and I don't even bother with the gate or compression on this thing. However, I have found that the two sounds I can get "perfect" out of this are heavy distortion, and 50's Rockabilly "twang".

Took a while to get used to especially if you are new to multiple effects setting with compression, delay and etc. but once you get used to it...very easy.
Editing is nice very versatile some from 1-99 setting, some -12 to 12 setting.
Manual is a little booklet not very useful.
You just gotta mess around with it...but then you will be nicely surprised.

Distortion... several different types...you can throw away your old distortion box.
You need to becareful with adding compression with reverb and delay. The wrong mix will create a unbearable feedback. But you can set tweak it to rid of the feedback.
Sounds great by pluggin into my computer speaker...nice and smooth and pretty damn loud. I need to make adjustments to play on the Crate.
Heavy metal sounds with high gains are very nice. Does not sound like metal zone but very heavy lows and nice crunch. DIO, metallica, megadeth with heavy riffs.
AutoYah is cool for goofing around and composing new music.
Great for soloing satriani, journey, van halen, oldfield, etc.
Chorus and acoustic need help and is weak on clean channels
But hey many effects are short on the acoustic sound anyways.
Flanger is weird but then again I had problems with my DOD flanger never knew how to use it properly.
Reverb is not that good either sounds flat and sharp.
Chorus is pretty wet but I have seen better.
Compression and delay since I am new to it sounds great. Versatility with the compression and delay setting are scarce but they work fine on the few setting that I use so it is nice.
There are so many settings on the type of pickups type of amps it emulates and even the gate setting...This gets kinda confusing and you have to spend time fooling around with it.
But then again I bought it to fool around with it.
The various types of distortion and amp models create a vast scenario of sounds...from 60's rock and blues to 70's black face to 80's retro to the chilli pepper freaks with nice warmth is there.
Very nice sound but not a 10 since the BOSS rack system is a 10.

Play heavy metal, hard rock. This unit is great for it.
But note that it is not a very clear sounding distortion that you wold get from Marshall stacks. But then nothing is.
If lost or stolen I would check out the BOSS rack system.
I only bought this since the one I wanted was about 500 bucks.
This thing can replace my Ibanez sonic distortion, DOD flanger but not sure if it can replace my BOSS power driver.
This is a cheap version of the BOSS rack system which is of high quality and better sound... but for the buck, it is an intro version of a rack system.
For the buck this is the best effect I bought since the early 80's.

Very easy too use. The matrix is very intuitive. A big plus is that the values for each of the parameters are displayed alternatingly when you edit. That way, you don't have to guess where you're at before you change the parameter, and you can always go back to the value you started with. I also have the Korg AX1500, where I find that to be a problem sometimes. For some of the effects (esp. Flanger and Chorus), I would wish for more than two knobs to control the parameters. In a life situation, patch navigation might become a problem because you wil sometimes step through several patches to get to where you can to be. The tuner works fine - don't know what people are complaining about.

I am using an Ibanez AS200 semi-acoustic and a Charvette Strat copy, and an Ibanez Roadster bass through an Acoustic G120/212 solid state amp equipped with two 12" Mesa Black Shadow speakers. Some of the sounds of the RP100 are very usable in this setup. I LOVE the HotRod model (Mesa/Boogie MarkIIC). Very responsive and sweet. Also the Boutique is very nice, even if I'm told it doesn't come close to the Matchless it's supposed to emulate (I wouldn't know). The Tweed model is also fine. Some nice tones also in the High Gain model, although that one is quite noisy when the noise gate is off. It seems to me that HiGain, HotRod and Boutique are sort of the same sound with different spectra of Distortion, but that works for me. Generally, the highly overdriven models (Rectifier, Marshall and HiGain) are somewhat noisy, but that's something you have to live with if you are using a real tube amp, too. The noise gate will help if you do not let the notes ring out - but if you do, the noise gate will cut off the note. It is also impossible to do volume swells with the noise gate on.
The crunch model sounds like the British Stack (=Marshall) model with less distortion. Rectifier is O.K., but a bit tame. Both clean models are fine; the Clean2 also produces an excellent sound for bass guitar. haven't done much with the blackface, and the acoustic model is tolerable, but not great. The pickup simulation works nicely (at least Hb-->SC). Speaker models are a bit lame; especially the first four are very dark for my taste; I mostly use the 2x12 with the center of just off-center microphone position. I have problems tweaking the modulation effects (chorus and flanger); needs some work because there's only two knobs to do so. It also seems that they work a lot better stereo, because I can get O.K. settings on the headphones. A general warning: what sounds good through the headphones might not sound good through an amp, and you will have to adjust your patches if you switch from one to the other (actually, first setting for amp appears to work better). The reverb section is wonderful, there's almost too much to chose from. But that's not a critizism. The rhythm trainer can be quite helpful, but I wished Digitech would not use the same sounds for all types of rhythm. The snare you use for hard rock just isn't the one you'd use for Bossa Nova. Anyway, a few quite usable practice rhythms anyway.

The top looks quite solid, but the bottom seems to be pretty thin plastic, so beware. Don't know if I'd gig live with it - why not. If your life depends on that gig, get a spare RP100. At that price, it's a realistic option. But can't really give a valid opinion here.

Overall, the RP100 is a quite nice package. I wish they'd sold these things 20 years ago; who knows, maybe I'd become a musician instead of a biologist.... I've been playing guitar for 26 years now in Rock and Jazz bands and in an acoustic duo. I play all kinds of music; I like Rock, Fusion and Funk, dabble a bit in Jazz and Blues. So, this little device actually comes quite handy. If it was stolen, I might upgrade to one of the higher models, but overall I'm pretty happy. I also own the KORG AX1500G, and have to say that I like the amp models in the RP100 better for Rock and fusion. When it comes to more heavy music, however, the KORG blows it away. Also, I suppose the effect editing is easier on the KORG. A big plus for the RP100 is the option to run it on batteries, so you can take it with you into the woods (or one of those Finnish summer cottages without elecytricity). I think it's a great deal, but anyone considering buying it should check if he/she can swing the RP200 (so you can use the expression pedal) or even the RP300, which is even easier to program and also should be more feasible for live gigging with the amp switching option

The manual is good, easy to understand. I thot its okay even if thers no adapter included. But i warned u, this thing eats battery very fast and it will affect ur editing & wen u change banks. So better buy a power supply. And sometimes you can get confuse because their are instances that the knobs doesnt respond qucikly when u dial it. And help, the cabinet/mic is only up to A1 to C3 and ther is a "D1 to D3" which is not inlcuded in the manual ????? toink!!!!

The amp sim are great it gives a nice distortion. I love the Recto sim, its the nearest thing i can experience playing through a messa boogie kuz there are no messa boogie amp here in our country that are used. I dont say people here cant afford it(me personaly cant afford one) but maybe they are not yet familiar w/ the messa or the only amp they know is Peavey, Fender and Marshall. The volume is also louder compared to my AX 100g.

My band plays anything form pop to hardcore to metal to jazz.It just depends to what crowd are we playing for, we just adopt. I compared these to my ax100g. Distortion- RP 100 is a winner in the heavy distortion NU style type. The ax100g is also a winner if u want that warm, crunch, vintage, Analogy 70's & 80's metal soloing thing. Modulation(chorus,flanger,tremolo)- RP100 has louder output but the ax100g has more parameters to tweak the sound of the modulation effect. Delay/Reverb- i think they fair well but the rp100 has more delay and reverb type to choose from. The noise gate is better on the ax100g. If ur on a budget they are both cheap, wallet friendly hehehe. And they also have unique effects ax100g-has a virtual feedback while the rp-100 has a talker which sounds like the effect use in the Bon Jovi song YUCCCCKKKK

Good stuff -
Amp Models: especially the Rectifier distortion (311 sound), the Fuzz and the Fender Tweed. Little gap in sound when you switch patches, but not too bad,
Delay & Reverb: Very flexable, lots of control over the parameters
Compression, Noise Gate, EQ all do what they're supposed to.
Not so good: Modulation effects, only has two knobs for each effect, one for wet/dry mix and one that combines speed and depth. I'd much rather have separate control for speed and depth, like the RP-300 does. The mix is cool, but it's not as flexable as I'd like. The sounds themselves are ok, but not really an improvement on the Zoom 505 I had 5 years ago.
Cabinet Simulation - It's got 12 and the first 10 are too dark and boxy for my use, I only use the last two.
If you just want something basic, it's cool, but think about the RP-300 (it wasn't out when I bought this one.)

Once you understand how the thing is layed out it is not very difficult to program the kind of sounds you want. Mine didn't come with a manual, but a qucik trip to digitech's website fixed that. The amnual did help understand some of the subtleties.
Using this pedal live would require you to preprogram and order your patches.
I use this pedal for the more exotic and or seldom used effects (phaser, tremolo etc) in the effects loop of a BOSS LS-2 line selector. This allows me to keep the pedal out of the signal path unless I am using it, and acess any number of sounds preselected at the touch of a button. Pretty nice. It works very well like this for me, and keeps me from having to have a ton of pedals that I would hardly ever use. i really don't use most of the pedals options just a patchlist of individual effects.

My rig is as follos: 96 Strat H/s/s-->Vox Wah-->Dynacomp-->Boss Sd-1 -->DS-1--> Boss LS-2 (A-->Byopass mode) RP-11 in A effects loop ---> Peavey Classic 30. I play contemporary christian, Praise and christian rock, and as such I need to be able to get a lot of different souind very easily.
For me, the key to this pedals usefullness is as I explained above, and I highly recomend using it that way. Without the LS-2, it is very difficult to scroll between sounds live. The amp models are ok but not like a good tube amp w + w/o distortion pedal IMO. The effects are pretty decent too for the money. This is not a pro-level pedal nor was it intended to be. However for $100, it has been well worth the money for me. It allowed me to play around and decide which effects I really wanted to incorporate into my sound, and which effects would be used sparingly for a little spice. It is a great practice tool, works pretty decent for direct recording, and is just plain fun.
My live sound I use dedicated pedals for the staples ( Comp, OD, Dist, Delay, Chorus). However the RP-100 allows me to color my sound on the occasions where I need or want something else.

I have been playin off and on for around 10 years, mostly acoustic guitar or jazz until recently. I started getting more into rock style guitar and needed to have a range of sounds and effects. The RP-100 was great for a starting point and helped me shape my sound. I still use it and it does exactly what I need it to.
Overall it is an exceptional value as the sounds and utility are quite good for the price paid. I would deffinately recomend the rp-150 as the built in expresion pedal is definately worth the extra cash. If it were lost or stolen I do not know that I would get this exact pedal again, as it is not really a critical part of my sound.

This unit is very easy to use, even if it is your first effects pedal. The manual is useful when you first get the RP100. Using it live? You have to go through every preset between where you are and where you want to go. This makes it less useful for playing live.

I use the RP100 with a Legend amp live and plug into my BR8 digital recorder at home (this is 95% of the time).
AMP MODELS - Most of the clean amp models are weak and need plenty of Treble/Mid/Bass adjustment to sound full. They sound plain rather than distinct, like the originals.
Distorted models are OK. You can get a variety of sounds here.
EFFECTS are generally not very good. Chorus - OK. Delay - OK. Flange - sounds like the chorus on this unit. Rotary - sounds like the chorus (tastes like chicken). Auto Wah - Why? Wah - you can hear each change in tone as you sweep through, like steps (not good). All other effects are OK / not bad.

This is one of the best $100 I've spent on a piece of equipment. This is a great toy but doesn't have professional sound quality.
I am a rock player. Some of my favorites are Beatles, Boston, Kansas, Yes, Eric Johnson, Beethoven (?!!) I've been playing about 37 years. I'm about as good as half the people you hear on the radio. I have a 1981 Les Paul Custom, Fender Strat (Tex Mex), Carlo Robelli Les Paul forgery, Legend 60 watt amp, Intellifex (great unit), Boss Chorus, Morley JD10, Boss BR8....(on and on).
You will have to pay more to get a variety of quality sounds but... if this unit gives you a sound that works for you (most of us use 3 or 4 different sounds at most - not including effects) you may not need anything else for amp simulation/modelling. It's decent but I think I'm getting the Genesis 3.

I don't know what these people have been smoking that keep giving this unit 8-10 ratings. It is SO NOISY!!! NOISY NOISY NOISY. Especially with the High Gain type amp settings. Any distortion at all and you get lots of line noise. And the noise gate is real bad... it chops off notes, and that hiss just comes back when the gate opens. It also dulls your guitar tone in bypass. Most effects are too bassy. I used this box with a fender bassman. That was like eating a turd with fine china! And they give you stereo panning without stereo inputs. Brilliant.

You get alot of stuff for your money... but it is poopy stuff. The cab simulator and pickup simulator are laughable! All they did is boost the eq. where appropriate, and you can do that yourself. I have to admit, though, you get introduced to alot of effects for the money. I think it would be good as a first time pedal for beginners, but as something for the gigging, serious musician, you have to shell out the bucks if you want something decent. I'm not really sorry I bought it, because I learned alot about what I want out of a pedal because of it. Save your dough and get the Boss ME 33.

This Pedal is so easy to use it isn't funny. It has 2 buttons to switch between patches, 3 knobs to change the parameters of the patches (eg. In amp selection they will control which amp you want to emulate, how much gain you want and the amp volume). It has a button to switch from performance mode to edit mode. It has a button for saving and a button to turn on the drum samples. You can pretty much use the pedal without needing to use the manual but if you want to make some serious patches you need to know how everything works (Trust me, I thought I knew everything there was to know about this thing. But when I read the manual front to back, the quality of my way cool patches sounded way better). The rp100 also comes with a tuner which works pretty good, and a drum sampler which is also pretty good.

My setup is fairly simple. I have a mexican made strat running to the rp100 and then to a marshall valvestate 8020 20 watt powerhouse (I've never needed to turn the volume past halfway). Pluging straight into the amp there is no noise but with the rp100 there is noticable hum, nothing to get all upset about though because the rp100 comes equiped with a built in noise gate. The amp model are pretty much all great except for the acoustic modeler. It doesn't sound anything like acoustic guitar, more like a muddy clean channel. The marshall stack, boogie rectifyer, and johnson high gain are very good distortion settings and all sound very distinct. The clean amp models such as the twin reverb and vox A30 are really good and the delay and reverb settings are very cool. The built in effects are all high quality sounding but you are limited to how you can change them but for 200 bucks its a deal and a half. I play mostly metallica stuff or 70s and 80s rock such as led zepplin, guns and roses, etc. I can pretty much make this pedal sound like any kind of tone I want at 80 to 100 prcent accuracy. My metallica settings sound just like off there albums, and I have some pretty cool rock/blues sounds. There hasn't been a tone that I couldn't replicate yet so I can't complain about this pedal, it just sounds great. Never use the pickup simulator unless your pickups are really really crappy. I find it sounds much more pure and precise with my own pickups. I wouldn't use it on a gig because when you change between the patches there is a half second delay which sounds pretty crappy because the changes between the settings isn't very smooth.

Now here comes the bad news. The input jack on the rp100 is very low quality. It is flimzy and has a good chance of breaking. Once you put your guitar cable in, leave it in. If you keep on taking it out after you use it it will probably break. When I turn off the unit i just unplug the dc power or the batteries. That way the input jack will be ok. Other than that this unit is pretty damn strong. It is very low profile so you can't flip it over by accident, and it is made out of some kind of strong metal (aluminum or steel or something, i don't know), so it will take some abuse. If I played live I would rather buy single effects pedals because they are more versitile and have no sounds or delays when you turn them on. It would be really good for recording because of its simplicity and high quality sounds though. I would have given it an 8 but the input jack was pretty bad (thanks digitech!).

If you are the bedroom/basement player and you are strapped for cash, this pedal is a must buy. It has great amp models, great effects and at a price that won't drain your bank account. It has a tuner drum sampler and an equilizer on it too. If you were to add up the price of the amps you can get on the pedal and all the individual effects your grand total would probaly be more money than what your car is worth, so you are definetly getting a lot for your money. If it were stolen I would buy the new digitech multi effects pedal (i forget what its called) just to try somthing new. Ive never played the line 6 pod but I cant imagine it sounding that much better, and besides the rp100 is 150 bucks cheaper.

Almost all effects programmers like to,(or are coersed to,)load sounds that are "over-the-top". Given that my preference is toward "minimulism"... When the flanger or rotary speaker is set to 35 I'll drop it down to just above the point at which if it were any less you might miss it in the mix.
It's easy enough to find and enter the appropriate changes and the little booklet, (handy size),is happily devoid of the all too common Japinglish commentaries which tell you little of the "how to's" and simply urge you towards being excited about what you've purchased.
I guess my one complaint is that the liniar mode select array has a lag in it and it's too easy to overshoot your selection if you move too quickly.

I'm running a 71 tele through Fender "Jam" amp -picked up by a clamp mounted SM 58. The amp can have a tendency to sound like fried bacon with the burner set on high if you add the amp effects to what's already comming from the RP-100.
As one reviewer pointed out, the device has all you need to sound like the things it's supposed to emulate but it lacks the 3D crunch of live picking action. But hey! I listen to the commercials on TV now and can say... I can make THAT guitar sound!... it's in the box!
Since the keyboard is the lead instrument in our group the residual noise floor on some of the amp selections will only be heard on the songs that everybody's wailing out on anyway.
I have to admit..the thing that sold me on the RP-100, over the Line 6 stomp box was the clean and tasty accoustic amp sounds you get.YUM!

'Seein a lot of complaints about having to stomp both footswitches together... I don't see a problem there. My worry is if you're too casual about it and you don't do it quick enough you'll go silent and when the tunner kicks in it will read the chords your playing but nobody's gonna hear um including you.
Do I need a backup unit of some sort? NAAAH! The amp's chorus and reverb are still serviceable albeit noisy.

All is well with my selection of the RP-100 as the sound shaper of choice. Ask me if I have a wish list? OK! I would have welcomed the option to drop out the original signal on the detune chip so's I could emulate a bass guitar for recording purposes.
And I like the old MXR's distortion peddle... 'couldn't duplicate that on the RP-100...(no big thing... just a druther.)

Ease of use... wow, let's put it this way: I grew up with a generation that didn't use fancy processors, but instead had mile long daisy chains of effects pedals. I'd never owned one, much less used one. This unit is so easy, that I had it figured out before I left the store... with no manual. Two buttons and 3 knobs are all you have to mess with to adjust the sounds and effects. If you need to scroll through a vast amount of settings, you can simply step down on and hold the "up" or "down" buttons and it will speed-scroll. You'd have to be a drooling, brain-dead, idiot to be unable to use this.

I've heard some people complain that digital processors give you a "tinny" sound. I didn't find that to be the case with this piece of equipment. I use an old Crate G120CXL, with an equalizer pedal in the effects loop, so this processor only added to the great sound.
I'm not much for trying to obtain the sounds of others, but I did find something quite remarkable when flipping through the presets... #26 (may or may not be the same on other units) sounds identical to David Gilmour's lead sound on The Wall... especially the Comfortably Numb solos. That's one preset I won't be changing, because I'm so impressed by it.

ive been playing/gigging for 22 years and my previous setup (sold in april) was a marshall jmp1 with an aleseis quadraverb and marshall 80/80 power amp - all controlled by an ART 128 patch midi foot controller , and going through a stereo slant front 4*12 marshall cab . i,m basically an old (well , not THAT old ) rocker , and i play metallica / salas / vai / wylde stuff .
everywhere i played i ALWAYS had somebody (usually other guitarists) complement me on my tone .
the trouble with that rig was that it had to be fairly well cranked to sound good (as most valve amps do ) .
in all honesty this RP100 sounds better for home use than the rig i just sold - i can get tones that are almost identical - even the distortion .
the last time i tested a digitech box i HATED IT !! ( this was 10 years ago ) - the distortion was terrible back then , and i would say that this has been the single largest improvement over the years (and probably the most important ) .if it were stolen i would definitely buy another .
i compared it with the zoom 7070 - no contest there , and with the equipment that i owned for 10 years (mentioned above) .
i'm just stunned by the quality of this for the measley sum of a hundred quid !

It has a flanger, auto-yah, chorus, delay, reverb, amp sims, and lots of other stuff. Once you figure out hot to use this thing you can get some of the effects to sound as good as regular pedals. The one most useful effect has to be the drop tuner. It can drop you tuning a whole step. Very useful. I'd pay $100 just for that!

I play a Samick SG with a Crate GX65 amp. Thank god for this pedal. The overdrive on the my amp w/o the pedal was horrid, but this pedal saved it. I love the distortions, especially the one modeled after the Marshall half-stack. It gives you a lot of freedom, my distortion is very bassy and heavey, which goes to the music I play, but using the other distortions and the equalizer, you can dial in any distortion you need, from blues to classic rock. The clean is awesome also, great for anything. The effect are pretty good, I don't use them much, but that's just because I don't need them, as far as chorus's, flangers, and other effect go, it sounds pretty good. If I did need them, I'm very sure I would be even more in love with this pedal.

Very reliable, I have gigged and practiced with it a good amount. I've only had it for about 6 months, but I've given it a good year or so worth of use, and it shows no signs of letting me down. I wouldn't dream of using a backup for it during a gig, it more than gets the job done, and it's very well built. The only reason it didn't get a 10 in this category was because I haven't had it all that long, so I can't know what will happen to it a good 10 years from now, but from the looks of it, this baby will still be crankin just like the day I bought it.

When I ordered it, the retailer (Musician's Friend) made the mistake of sending me a power adaptor that was made for use in England and Africa (it didn't plug into a normal U.S. outlet.). I contacted them, and within a week I had the normal power supply. The mixup was in no way Digitech's fault, and even if it was, I still applaud them for the quick and friendly service I received.

Flat out, this pedal rocks, I love it, and if someone were to steal it, I'd buy another one, and do some crazy shizznit to the person that stole it. Can't blame anyone for stealing it really, it's that good of a pedal. If it weren't for this pedal, I'd be lost in a sea of mediocre tone and horrible distortion. It saved my life, and I strongly recommend it for anyone out there, with any guitar, any amp, and any style of play. This thing rocks!

I have a lotus les paul copy, a fender duo sonic and a harmony bass that I run through here as well as vocals. It can be noisy in some settings but with the gain and level controls I have no trouble getting the sound I want. I record directly from the unit without an amp. The effects are great especially the chorus, flanger and phase shifter.

I was pleasantly surprised at how easy it was to use this device. I'm from the old days of plug in the amp and go. I've been known to use a stomp box or two at the most. I bought this mostly for direct recording and for playing directly into a PA. The manual is useful, and very clear about it's general usage, but didn't make it clear that the preset patches have no speaker simulation on them, as noted below. Could cause some major confusion when trying it out. I personally feel that those who have given unfavorable reviews about this product have not tried to add speaker simulation to the presets, have humbucking emulation on while using a humbucker equipped guitar (resulting in mud), likewise for single coils, not had speaker simulation on when going recording direct, etc. Forgetting these little details results in amazingly bad tone.

I'm using a Telecaster, and a Stratocaster. I haven't noticed any unmanagable noise. I'm not sure about the noise gate. I don't like the way it cuts off notes as they die out. I like the delays and reverbs, although I'm not nuts about them. They're OK. I don't use much for effects. Live, I NEVER use a chorus, flange, or anything like that. While recording a big ballad the other day, and thinking that I could use some kind of organ chord sound, I recorded two tracks of rhythm guitar. One with the rotating speaker sound, and one with a light, slow chorus. I did volume swells manually with the guitars volume control, and panned each track hard left and right during mixdown. Didn't sound like a B-3, but it did have the effect that I was looking for. As for amp simulations, I liked all of the Fender and Vox settings, although they were all too clean, even with the gain cranked up. As for the Marshall and Mesa settings, I'm not really into high gain tones. That's the biggest fault with this unit - there's not really any in between. I'll experiment by putting my Marshall Bluesbreaker pedal in front of it and use the Twin, or Tweed patch and see if that does it. I didn't really care for the Matchless emulation either, but I didn't spend much time tweaking it. All in all, I think it's very usful and definately the biggest bang for the buck out there.

I play mostly blues or blues influenced rock. Professionally, I get called to play many different styles and I think this device may be a big help, especially when it come to playing straight into a PA. I don't switch sounds much. I like to dial in one decent amp tone, with maybe a little slapback delay, and vary my tones by manipulating the guitars volume and tone controls. I don't switch from patch to patch. I've been using it on an open jam night that I host, and have had great luck with it tonally, and regarding reliability. It devours batteries though. Also useful, without being the most realistic sound, is the built in drum machine. I've actually used this on a couple of the jam night where no drummer showed up. Helped out immensely.
I've been playing for about 35 years, and have played through many old tweed Fender amps, old vintage Telecasters, etc. back in the days when that stuff was considered old junk. I can't vouch for the accuracy of the emulations, but I can say that there are countless good, usable tones in this cheap little box. I haven't tried it into a regular guitar amp yet, and this is where it may leave the POD in the dust. I've owned a POD for about a week and took it back. Seems that even while turning off the A.I.R. switch on the POD, it doesn't completely disable the speaker emulation without getting involved with the deep editing stuff. So I was disappointed with the POD in that respect. Overall I think it's a great value considering it's price and it's usefulness for direct recording and for playing into a PA.

I have an ESP M-55 > Morley Bad Horsie > RP-100 (Not anymore though) > Marshall MG80RCD. The RP-100 is very noisy, but it does come with a noise gate. However, a noise gate is just the cheap way out. It only gets rid of the noise while you're not playing. As soon as you hit a note there's loads of static and background hiss. The effects are ok, nothing great, but for a $100 processor they're ok. If you use too much of an effect though it totally screws your tone up by making it sound like your amp is buried underneath no less than 76,849,645,900 pillows. So keep the volume of the effect under at least 60. The distortions are terrible!! Despite what most people say, they are not that great. To begin with, every amp setting makes the guitar sound extremely muddy and bass-heavy. It really muddles up the whole sound and is very poor for any direct recording. Second, as I mentioned before, they're extremely noisy. Third, if you turn up loud enough to play over a drummer, all the amp models sound hollow and like you're playing through a trash can.

My other gear consists of ESP guitars and a Marshall amp. I really don't care for this little processor. I've had it for about five months now, and I've given it every chance I can think of. I mean, money is tight, I paid a hundred bucks for the thing. I have tried my hardest to like the RP-100, but it's just not happening. Folks, it is impossible to spend that little amount of money and sound good. Guitar is one hobby where there are no cheap ways out. This is no different. The RP-100 blows!!

I use this with a Standard Strat (stock pups) and a Marshall Valvestate 8240 (2x12 Celestion)
I have had this unit for about eight months now, and I have used it for all manner of gigs. (I work 10-15 dates a month) I have used it not only for guitar, but also for saxophone, with all the models turned off and straight effects. I play in an alternative band and I did some guitar work in the studio for a local 50's band and it covered both well...(the tweed model was very useful)
I haven't tried to emulate any artists (except the Gilmour solo in "Time") but rather I've spent the most time trying to get the units best sounds out of it.
Distortions are good, cabinets are decent, echo and compressor are great, and the noise gate SAVED ME from having to shop for noiseless pups. Tuner bites though...I can't give it enough signal.

I use a Dean Avalanche through a '70 Fender Blonde Blues Tube Combo. I get a big hum if I have a wah before the RP-100, but that could be the wah or a cable. The effects and amp models sound great. I have been trying to get that super crisp Edge-sounding delay-laden clean sound for a long time, but the Fender just sounded too muddy. With the VOX AC30 amp sim, though, it's incredibly crisp. (About as crisp as you can get without actually buying an AC30 for $1539) If you're playing hard rock or classic rock, of course you think the auto-yah or envelope are stupid. But if you like synth-pop and electronic music you can get some fantastically offbeat sounds with the envelope filter and auto-yah. The delays and reverbs are great as well.

I also like techno, trance and drum and bass stuff, like Moby, Underworld, Roni Size, Goldie, etc. I just bought this pedal for the footswitchability and the AC30 sim. It exceeded my expectations as far as cool, weird sounds.
I have been playing for little more than two years. I also have an Ibanez DE7 delay (with a broken switch), a Dunlop 535Q wah, and a Pandora PX2 effects processor.
I might buy this again, but if I had more money, I'd buy the RP-200.

Not too bad to figure out, but you definitely have to read through the manual before you try using this unit. They should have also made it clearer in the documentation that the presets do not have the amp simulation on them (fine if your just using it as a stomp box but can give you a false first impression if you plug it into a line in of your recorder).
Sound Quality
:

At first I wasn't that impressed. I plugged the unit into a line on my recorder (I bought it because it was advertised as a amp sim) and ran it through the presets. It had a cool range of effects but the sound didn't knock my socks off. Then (after a review of the manual) I realized that none of the presets have the speaker cabinet simulation on them. WOW!! What a difference!! After spending some time tweaking the cabinet selection to each preset I found this unit to be quite good. I found and extremely usable palate of tones. I've since used this unit for recording demos (using Gibson guitars and Fender basses), and while I won't ever say that this unit will ever replace a real stack for the price it is quite kicking!! Heck, for the price it's a 12 on a scale of 1 to 10!!!

I use my RP-100 with a Yamaha Pacifica 112, an Ibanez RG505, into the line in (effects return) of a Crate G60XL 1x12 combo. All the EQ etc is done on the RP-100, using the Crate like a powered cabinet. The RP-100 sounds great through headphones. When you get to grips with the noise gate (notice I said when, not if) noise is not a problem. The amp sounds seem okay to me. Obviously a REAL Dual Rectifier or a REAL Vox AC30TB will blow it away, but I haven't got room for all those amps in my box room!! The effects seem useful, but I'm getting used to the Wah. I bought an expression pedal (today in fact)and I'm still getting to grips with the settings. I TRY to play mainly rock/progressive/metal stuff, and have come up with reasonable approximations of Dream Theater, AC/DC, and I am in the middle of getting Steve Rothery's sound for Kayleigh. I don't tend to use the Cabinet/mic simulator with the Crate, I'm toying with the idea of doing some recording onto my PC so it may come in handy. All effects are good except maybe AutoYa!!

If it was lost or stolen, I would probably replace it AND my Crate with a Digital modelling combo, Line6 or Tech21, something like that. It is a floor unit really, which is always a bit awkward when you want to tweek something, and I actually have it sitting on top of my amp. But if you buy something like a POD or J-station, you have to stump up for a foot controller.

I use only Ibanez guitars. I have an AX and an RG, both black.
At first, it was really noisy and I was getting this ear-splitting feedback. Then I added the Noise Gate and the Pickup sim. It sounds AMAZING. The Effects are very good, except the Auto-Yah. It's just not to my taste. I like using the Whammy to "detune". I run it thru a Fender Bronco, which is fed into a Crate 4x12 cab. You have to figure out the amp EQ a bit, but after that, it's all good.
I can get a sound VERY close to Finger Eleven with this.
The Fuzz distortion is great for some things, but it really is terrible for muting, so I use the Rectified setting. I only use effects that fit what I play, so the Flanger, Auto-Yah, and Vibrato are out of the picture. The effects are great quality and sound good to me.

I'm using this with an Ibanez GRX20 with factory Powersound Humbuckers (OH GOODY!) and a Fender Frontman 15 amp at home, but I usually find something different when I jam with my bands. I haven't actually used this with my bands yet though. It really doesn't sound too bad, my amp's volume is low and the EQs are all at zero, and this makes my amp sound a LOT better than bare, either way you look at it.
I can get cool sounds resembling AC/DC and various other classic rock stuff easily, I especially like the different wailing lead sounds I can get, being a fan of 80s guitar solos and shred. The Heavy Metal rythm distortion on this unit, there are different things to play with (Rectified, Johnson Hi-Gain, Fuzz, Stack) but some of them essentially don't sound a whole lot different unless you listen closely.
Most of the effects are good, I like the amp modeling a lot. Its possible to get some pretty good sounding cleans out of this.
Not a super fancy top-of-the-line unit, but you get what you pay for, and this is the max for $100

I've been playing for a short amount of time but I feel I've made some pretty good progress. I also have a Danelectro Pastrami Overdrive pedal which is really pretty nice but this beats the hell out of it. I gotta say the Auto-Yah is really stupid, and the envelope fiter is cool but I'll probably never use it. Haven't gotten to play with the whammy yet unfortunately.
I hate two things. Scrolling one by one through 80 presets to find something (not that bad though just put the ones you like near each other and get used to it) And I hate that I had to pay $25 for the power supply. I mean COME ON! Who the hell makes an AC-output 1300 milliAmp supply! Radio Shack was my thought on a cheaper place to buy one and they said they didn't carry anything like that. What a ripoff just include the power supply.
Anyway, it helps me make music more than it gets in the way. Decent deal, if it were stolen I'd get pissed off, then I'd buy the RP-200.
by the way feel free to see some videos of me goofing off and some pictures of my cool guitar, and some MP3s of me playing, at http://www.angelfire.com/rock2/rocknrollsteve the mp3s maybe count as samples of what you can do with this thing.

I play a strat mostly with this, and also a Taylor with LR Baggs duel source pickup/mike for reverb, chorus, and delay side chained through an SWR Strawberry blonde 80 watt acoustic amp. It is noisy on some effects like the auto-yah. The pickup simulator was useless. Amp modeling was ok, but I have not heard some of these amps in such a long time I couldn't tell the difference. The cabinet modeling works well the the Taylor. Chorus and flanger are weak. The reverb is excellent - 10 to choose from. The delays sounded weak. Tremelo and vabrato sounded cool. Pitch shifter sounded good with the strat. Most of the distortions sounded too much the same, but some sounded really great. The rythm trainer is weak, very limited, not much use. I use the chorus and reverbs the most, distortion the least. Overall sound quality is weak and tinny. Amp modeling and cabinet modeling sounds thin compared to J-station. I've seen a lot of reviews where I don't think people have enough experience with the unit so I want to set the record strait with the RP100.
It's very easy to use relative to other programmable effect processors. If your a beginner, you've got a bit of a learning curve just figuring out how to get the sounds you want anyway - regardless of the equipment.

The bottom line is this unit sounds great. If there's 1 problem, it's that with all the sound generators and amp emulators I think it's hard for someone who's not familiar with guitar sound to dial in their sound. I use everything under the sun from a Strat to a Les Paul, from Marshall, Mesa, and Fender (though only tube amps). I also have and endless array of processors from Boss Pedals to an extensive array of rack-mount units. I bought the RP100 just to mess around with it. Now, I started by cleaning out a patches and starting from scratch to build sounds. I can honestly say that I could recreate virtually every sound imaginable with this thing into a small Marshall combo tube amp. To do it right, you do need to know the difference between overdrive and distortion. And the effect of different amp types. I've read other people say that the delays sounded 'digital'. Hogwash. I'll admit, running this thing through a solid state amp some of the effects are night as nice. But, that's true with everything. Through my Marshall tube amps, the delays rang like bells and sounded great. Also, I've read that there are a lot of 'gimicky' sounds. Hogwash again. If you know what you are doing, the harmonizers and volume swell effects can be used to cover keyboard parts real nicely. I'll admit also that if you try and play a Metallica rhythm with a harmonizer it's going to sound stupid but that's not what it's intended for. 2 other suggestions: 1) if you want to add this pedal in line for live playing, use an A/B box to toggle it in and out of your line. The 2 pedal bypass pedals are very hard to use for this. The A/B box works good. 2) If you use this pedal for mostly delay, tremolo, and verb effects, always put the the distortion pedal before the RP100. (And always put a Wah pedal before a distortion pedal).

This unit has nice factory pacthes. Thr rhythm settings are a little funky, but usable. It sounds good right out of the box. Editing is NOT it's strong suit. I seem to screw up a decent patch every time, the company should take a tip from Line 6 and Rocktron and build alternative settings on their website. The manual is small, but informative. I still can't edit without ruining it. I had the Boss GT-3 and had similar difficulties. I am not an electronics programmer and don't want to take a course in it. The effects have extreme impact on the sound and by by the time you get through changing parameters in all the areas, the patch gets screwed.
Oh yeah, buy the power adapter!!!

I play a Franken-Strat w/ Carvin pickups and X-Bridge through a Crate VC-508 (Jan Phillips 5751 tube and Sovtek EL-84M) This is a vvery good set up for most styles The RP is not noisy, the noise gate is usable. It does take some of the chunk out of the unit when set at an high level. I don't like the chorus, a little cheesy. The amp models are pretty good. I can't really compare it to a '65 Fender tweed. It is ridiculous to compare a $100 multi FX to one anyhow. I would benefit from some editing help to get the most out of it. I do like the sound quality for what is,and the presets are usable.
I don't sound like Ronnie Earl and Stevie Ray, but it is a $100 stompbox.

I purchased it from Musician's Friend and had to send the first unit back. It had a short in it that were causing pops to come through the amp. They took it back, paid shipping, and sent a new one very quickly. I have had the new one for about a month with no problem.
I would use it without a backup. It seems sturdy enough and I use an ART Acoustic pedal for my X Bridge which is the only pedal that I am truly satisfied with it's sound

I think this is a good practice unit. I know Guitar Player gave it the Editor's Pick, but it is usable. If I wanted a pro sounding pedal, I would have purchased the DG stomp or POD.
I've been playing for 8 years and have been through the gear lust and disappointment too many times. A cheap stompbox is not the way to great tone. You get what you pay for and it is better to get the highest quality units a piece at a time instead of selling and trading for the next great cheap unit (under a grand).
For what it is, it is a no brainer investment. It is great for practicing scales and rhythm ideas to the drum beats and getting close to sounding like the guitarist of your choice. Great for beginners and useful for players.... but it's only a $100 multi effects unit.

How easy is it to get a good sound out of it?
Compared to other units in the same price range, it is much easier, because of the matrix and 3 knobs.
How about Editing patches?
Simple, Just twist the knobs.
How is the manual for it (if there is one)?
Very good, very basic for a basic digital device.
Do you know the firmware revision number? Has your unit been upgraded?
No idea.

My guitars are Fender Strat with single-coil pups.
My amp is a Fender Bassman 50 with an Ampeg VT-22 2*12 cab.
The amp simulations are very good for this price range. Much better than the Korg units under $200. More dynamic and sweeter sounding than anything in this price range.
The modulation effects are very ordinary for multi-effects in this low bracket pricerange.
The unit is only noisy with the high gain amp simulations/compressors.
The noise reduction circuitry is very good.
None of the effects stand out.
The delays are grainy, you can hear the digital quality of the repeats. The analog delay is simply the digital delay with a low-pass filter. Not warm in the least, not like a real analog delay pedal. But of course, that's much more money.
The reverbs are decent, actually very good for this price range.
One good thing about this unit is that the user has more than one parameter to adjust as compared to the other units in this price range. You can mix the modulation effects to the pre-effected signal to your liking. I will not give a rating since the effects, in my opinion, were ordinary digitally produced effects. Individual pedals are definately better but more expensive and more of a hassle in terms of patching and powering.

It is housed in an aluminum casing. Excellent for this price range. Nothing else in this price range has a metal casing. It isn't very thick or heavy duty like a BOSS pedal, but good enough if you treat it with a little respect. I did not own it long enough to accurately rate its reliability.

I play a dub, reggae, classic rock, and surf instrumentals. This is not a good match. I had some kind of wishful thinking that this unit would sound good for warm echoes and splashy reverbs. The delays, even the analog simulated delay, sounded very unnatural sounding to me. I returned it after a day of use, both with headphones, and with the amp cranked.
I have been playing for about 12 or 13 years. I wanted a simple effects box that could do echoes and reverbs, I didn't care for or need any digitally created amp simulations. The mod and ambience effects are disappointing, which is the norm for this price range. It is better though, than anything else in this range. AX1G, 505II, etc. I expected the 24 bit A/D, D/A convertors to sound especially clear and transparent, certainly with processor intensive effects, but that just wasn't the case. Either the convertors are of low quality, or the processor is doing too much.
I'll stick to individual pedals. No more messing with digital effects, until the manufacturers figure out how to simulate power tube saturation for a warmer, non-digital tone.
My overall rating, hmmm, for this price range, a 10, as compared to the other $100 units. Amazingly consolidated, certainly, but lacking in the tone department. Compared to anything else out there, in any price range, its a 3.

the sound quality is damned good. Currently, I've been using a crappy practice amp, and I thought that I'd never get a decent, non-buzzing sound from it. But, this processor really cleaned it up; the distortions are great. The big factor here is the built in equalizer and compressor. While the equalizer is just three bands (Bass, Mids, Treble), it's much better than the onboard EQ of amps. The only effect that is lacking is the envelope filter. It tends to make a 'whooshing' or whistling sound, which is just awful. If you like to wah, use a dedicated wah pedal. Other than that, the sound kicks.

The effects processor comes with two foot switches/peddles built into the unit. The item has a multitude of settings and combinations.
The left peddle cycles down through the available sounds and the right cycles up through them. Press both peddles simualtaneously and the unit is bypassed.
The problem with this, although programable, is a limited availablity of desired effect(s) and the speed which they can be accessed.
If you program more than two or three effects into the pedal system, you will have to cycle up or down through the selection in order to find the one you want, and by that time, the need for it could have passed.
I "did not" find the board easy to use, and the manual limited in scope.
Disappointing as the unit is very light and any sort of aggressive use would find the little unit spinning across the floor. I did not see any mounting holes to attach it to a more secure footing. Additionally, the system is battery operated, there is a AC/DC plug available for it, however it does not come complete and that item is a seperate purchase. yuck.

I was using a Washburn WR150 fed into a Fender Princeton 65. Most of the effects caused the sound of the guitar to become indiscernable. Very poor delay, very poor, crunch. The amp modeling available was junk. I was very disappointed in the sound quality of the unit. One or two the several hundred combinations were worthy of play, however, I would surmise, that a purchase of an individual switch designed to perform that indvidual effect would be money better spent.

I play a B.C.Rich Warlock with an EMG85. My amp is a Crate GFX212 w/a Ampeg 4x12 cab. Also I have a Crate Blue Voodoo head. I was most interested in this units rectofier setting cause of my love of Mesa's tone. I adjusted the setting trying to get that maxium chunk like a Mesa but end up w/a flat weak tone. To a beginer it might pass. The other effect ae chorus, flang & phase... were pretty good. I wanted a Metallica,FearFactory,Soulfly,Machine Head tone and is not possible. If you don't use the noise gate their is alot of hiss but if you use it makes your tone sound messed up when you stop playing (cutting out your distortion when chugging). I unplugged the unit pluged my grunge pedal back up and smoked any setting on the rp100 as far as distortion. The drum machine was lame.

This is so easy to use, it has two footswitches, three knobs and three buttons. There are 80 patches (40 factory presets, and 40 user patches) and you can access them with the footswitches. The knobs control gain, amp model and master volume, but they are used to change the effects when in edit mode. Most of the factory presets suck but some of them are great. The manual is good, it describes each effect in good detail but this pedal is so easy to use you can get good sounds without reading it at all.

On my user patches i have set them up in groups such as Mettalica clean and Mettalica high gain, Creed clean and high gain, Papa Roach clean and high gain, Limp Bizkit, any of my favourite tunes i have a setting for. I can make my 20 watt marshall valvestate sound like a mesa/boogie dual rectifier, a marshall stack, a fender twin reverb, and many others. The effects are good too, not excellent, but unless you are tom morrelo or wes borland they are good enough for anyone from begginer to expert

This is where the problem came in. I had it a month (it never left the house) and it started cutting in and out. I believe it is related to the input jack (I tested every way I could) anyway I took it apart to see what I could find. I have had good luck with amp and effects pedal repair. This one however is a pre-printed circuit board and the all of the jacks connect directly to the card, I suspect a solder joint was cracked on the card but I have no way to fix that.
Other pedals, amps, etc usually have a 1/4 inch lock nut to hold the jack in place, but this one does not and that may be part of the problem.
The aluminum shell is rugged, but it is what is inside that I would be concerned about, especially if I had to depend on it in a live situation.

I'm using an ibanez RG120 through the RP-100 INTO A JOHNSON 25 WATT AMP.it's not noisy at all, except for if you simulate the "rectifier" and turn the gain and level up to 99, and then use an effect, it gets noisy. but thats all. This is where the RP100 shines: the effects selection is really wide. It has chorus, flanger, tremolo, phaser, auto volume swell, panner, vibrato, rotary speaker, envelop filter, wammy, wah, compressor, auto ya(a human vowel effect), and tons of other stuff. You can pretty much get any sound out of this.My only problem is with the flanger and chorus, you can't get a very fast shimmer effect. thats no big deal, cuz id only want it for eve6's "showerhead",but it would be nice to have a wider range.

3) If I lost it then I'm a dumb shit, well maybe I will lose it.
4) I will own this model for a long time I am too use to it and love it, although I might throw it up on ebay to get the rp200 (same thing but with expression pedal). Yah, I will.
5) can't really list a favorite feature I love everything about it. (maybe that it's made out of light weight metal and NOT PLASTIC!)
6) sure, I wish it talked back to me. (incase you didn't know yet I'm just answering the questions here)
7) compare to what?!!! it's smaller than a book with more features I would use in a lifetime!
8) if you have a problem with this unit getting in your way then stick in your pants (again just answering the questions)
9) sure, I would like to share that if you enjoy wipping your rear-end
with dollar bills (ouch) then buy something else. If you like quality gear and can get it for next to nothing compared to evrything else that's worth a damn than you are very wise to have this little beast in a box. PEACE.

10 for distortion sounds. Great for Vai, Paul G., Van Halen etc.9 for whammy sounds,10 for clean tone sounds (the chorus, reverb and delay on this is amazing). I used to be skeptical about the amp modeling thing I thought a digital multi fx unit could never replicate the all tube tone of a tweed Fender but it sounded really as good as the real thing. Wahwah sounds are not so good but still usable.Phaser and Flange is quite limited. The overdrive sounds are very lush and tubey. I was totally impressed that there was no tubes in there! I used to have a bias for digital multi effects because they are known to sound lifeless but the first time I heard it and found out it was so cheap, it was sold.

When I went to the store I was originally looking for a Whammy pedal to complete my rig. My prospect buy was the Whammy reissue of Digitech. But I thought it was a very limited effect. Not worth the price at all. Then the store manager told me about the RP100 that had a whammy in it. I tried it out and was blown away by the presets. I was totally impressed by most of the 80(not sure) presets. The overdrive and distortion sounds blew me away and so did most of the other effects. And this thing was 25%cheaper than the Whammy reissue!!! I was so impressed that I bought it right away.

The unit comes with a few decent patches right out of the box. The matrix style editing menu is easy to use (only three knobs) but the LED display should have more characters to make the parameter descriptions more intuitive (it only has two digits). Overall I found it easy to set up a few of my own patches within about the first couple times using it. I generally jam on whatever I came up with for a while before making something new.
The manual does a good job of showing how to get going right away, and it written with guitar players in mind. It is fairly short (blessing) and to the point.

This is my travel/silent practice rig. I play an Ibanez Proline, HSS pickup configuration straight into the unit, with headphones to monitor. I also have output it right into practice amps, or a stereo.
The sounds are pretty good, thought the cab emulator goes from bright to dark to quickly, not enough in between.
Some effects are better than others, I tend to use mostly delay and chorus or flange. The amp models are pretty good, but I wish they had the Grunge distortion they had in the ValveFX instead of the Fuzz setting.
Overall for the money the thing sounds pretty damn good.

I dealt with Digitech/Johnson when a light burned out on my Millenium three days after I got it (did not effect performance). They shipped me a new amp and had UPS pick up the old one, no hassle at all.

If the RP100 was stolen, I would most likely get another, or maybe an RP200 (with exp pedal). Of all the floor processors even close to this price point, this one is the best for features, ease of use, and sound quality.
I wish it had the Grunge distortion.

This thing is just AWESOME!Sounds best through Roland amps, ive tried it through Marshalls,Fenders, and Crates, and it sounds best through a Spirit50 with the amps master volume and presence on 10 for more sensitivity and cut.It takes a bit of tweaking to get the best sounds out of it but you will eventually......and this thing has BETTER distortion than the Marshall MG and Valvestate series, trust me on this....im an Official Marshall Stun Soloist!I'm out of contract now,so i can decide what sounds better and what doesnt. The stack setting on this processor really dishes out a better tube tone with the cab emulator set on 3a.Check it out!Rectifieds sounds like crap to me,but if you use the 3a on the Re setting with the eq's set below 0,you'll be pleasantly surprised.

I mainly play an '84 Gibson Flying V ,a Les Paul Special, and a Jackson PS2 through this unit and everything is quiet(cuz i set it to be that way!)Dont set the noise gate past 20,or youll lose sustain. The clean sounds you can get out of this thing are pretty damn near the original amps being cloned.Effects are great,if you know how to dial them in right.I've got the sounds of my favorite artists,Randy Rhoads,Eddie Van Halen, and Steve Howe programmed right in so when im playing songs from these guys live,i can just tap to the sound i need. But don't use the flanger with the distortions,as it flattens out and dulls the sound at the peaks.I have the pitchshift set on +3 for the Trevor Rabin solo from Only of a Lonely Heart and it NAILS the Rabin tone(just add some tite compression!)to a T!Aside from this, the effects are pretty good.

I originally bought this just for the delays and chorus/flanger, but I have found myself using the amp models a lot. Most pedals in this price range don't have very good distortion but I was impressed with the sound of this unit. It comes with 40 presets that are mostly usable, but most people will want to tweak their own sound anyways. The presets do give a good example of its variety of effects. I gave it a 9 because it can be a bit noisy, but it's nothing that the built in noise gate can't silence.

Easy to get great sounds.
Editing patches is a pain if you gig. Switching between patches is a bitch because you have to plan it all out. Not for the spontaneous pedal pusher.
Manual is fine. BUT it doesn't match the Mic emulation or pickup LED readouts and that is disconcerting.

I play a Yamaha AEX-500 guitar (or Fender Mustang) into the rp100 direct into the amp (Fender M80). If you use the effects in as it suggests you get an ok sound if you noodle in your attic by yourself. If you gig than it is far too quiet and sucks ass. Most of the stock patches are too shred for me. My guitar has a piezo in the bridge so the the acoustic emulation is wankerly by comparison. But gee, I can get arseloads of feedback on demand. There seems to be a lot of trouble using many of the options at once when you play with a full rock band. Your sound disappears. The bypass can be tricky to get to because you have to trip to pedal buttons at once. And you have to hold them down to get the tuner on. It takes some getting use to. I guess this would be more use to record or noodle than to gig.

see above.
Several times I've had to just bypass it and use the distortion on the M80. Just because it doesn't have a very dense sound. So based on the room, be careful. I've had it suck down new batteries by song 2, so the power supply is a must.

I compared to the Pod, which costs 3x as much. I hate the fact that the effects wash out the sound. If you don't have a Volume pedal get one, although a good one will cost nearly as much as this pedal. So consider the RP200 which comes with it attached. Volume ped doubles as wah/expression ped. I got rid of a bunch of pedals because of the rp100 and am still happy about that.

I think that this box sounds great. You can get the sounds you want no matter what kind of music you play. I can get a really good in your face metallica/megadeth sound, and then there is my great stevie ray vaughan sound. The effects are pretty basic, I wish that they were more adjustable. I use a fender american strat and a marshall valvestate combo, and it sounds really good through it. Very simple. It's pretty logical....as far as "the matrix" is laid out, so after
a quick glance at the manual (which is helpful) you're on your way. You're
always gonna sacrifice convenience and options when you get one of these
"Jack of All Trades" multi effects devices, but for what you pay for this, as far
as it's size and accessibility, i'm impressed. Editing the patches is a bit cumbersome
and the parimeters are a somewhat limited. The rhythm trainer is great, as far as
functioning as a practice tool, but it's very crude when trying to tweak the meter
or changing the rhythm style. Tuner works great.
Sound Quality
:

I'm running a Epi Les Paul Custom thru a MXR Dyna Comp/George Dennis Wah-Volume/
Dano Daddy O/ Dano Fab Tone/Boss EQ/ Ibanez Soundtank Phaser/ RP100/ 2
Vox Pathfinders. For a standalone multi-effects pedal, the RP100 could be very functional, basically
covering the spectrum of your needs (with the exception of the "Auto-Ya"....what the hell ???).
Also, for what you pay...it's incredible what they pack in this. I'm using
the RP100, more as a Chorus/Reverb/Delay pedal. Functioning in this mode,
it's great. Very organic sounding. The reverbs are outstanding and the delays
are precise and warm, but not too digital sounding. As far as the modulations, you're
pretty much covered. Some actually approach the quality of Boss or MXR's pedals.
The phaser is good. Flanger is very good. The tremolo rocks. The stereo effects (rotary speaker and
auto panner) are great. Auto Ya and Envelope Filter are weak.
I've used the Clean Amp models (sound great) some. For direct recording, the
distortions are average to good. I really like the Stack and Hot Rod. The Rectifier
and High Gain are too muddy, but I was just tinkering and not really spending
a whole lot of time of these, so I can't be real accurate, since i'm not really into
those styles of music utilizing those (Metallica, Limp Biscuit....). Compressor
is suprisingly good. The cab sims are great for added
"modeling realism". The EQ is functional. The rhythm trainer is fun for practicing
, although the drum sounds evoke the sounds of a Casio SK1. For my setup, my Dano
Pedals give me my distortions and cover my needs and styles (Joe Walsh, Dave Gilmour, Edge).
The RP100 is very versitile, and for the money it's a steal. Don't bother with the
whammy or wah on the RP100, get the real deal.

I like it a lot, but ease could be improved.
Using two feet to bypass is not optimal, lots of scrolling, and
most presets need tweaking, which takes some getting used to.
It is however, easy to copy sounds to the 40 user preset slots.
I put my clean sound on the odd number presets and my "effects"
on the even number presets. This means I usually don't have to scroll
more than one preset up or down in a song.
But hey, would you rather hook up eight or nine pedals? I wouldn't.
Sound Quality

I like most of the sounds, but they went a little overboard with
delay and reverb on most of them. Also, quite a lot of hiss when plugged in, although you're not gonna notice it once the band starts playing.
It definitely sounds different thorugh different amps and with different guitars, which for me is actually good. I use a jazz guitar

much of a knob-twiddler, so my needs for effects aren't as great as

It's not hard to use at all. Programming can get to be a bit tricky as every editable parameter is controlled by three knobs which don't always react exactly how you'd expect them to (you have to turn the knob back to it's original position to edit that parameter. This is, on occasion, a major pain in the butt). After you get used to it it's not that bad, tho.
Everything else is pretty simple you've got an up button and a down button to scroll through patches (sometimes I think it scrolls a tad too fast). Press 'em both and it bypasses the effect, press 'em both again and you've got the tuner. Hit one of them and back to the patch.

I'm mainly using this with a selection of Ibanez RG (7620, 750, 570FM and 550), Epiphone (Special II), Squire (Pro-Tone Fat Strat) and Peavey (Falcon Custom, Nitro I) guitars either straight into my 4 track or into a little Laney HC25 amp (straight into the front since it doesn't have an effects loop. I know you're not supposed to pre-amp a pre-amp, but what can you do?). The sounds from these are very good. I know this is a modeling pedal, but since I own none of the amps that it models I can't really judge how "real" it sounds. The two exceptions to this are the Pickup and Acoustic Simulators.
Ok, I have to say, the pickup sim doesn't (to my ears) make my humbuckers sound like single coils or my single coils sound like humbuckers. It makes them sound *DIFFERENT*, but not as advertised. The Acoustic sim does a good job of making a clean electric sound like...a REALLY clean electric lightly (and I mean "almost subliminally") doubled by an acoustic guitar. It's not a *BAD* sound and as a clean electric sound it's actually very nice (if occasionally overly bassy). But it's *NOT* and let me repeat is *NOT* going to replace your Ovation, or even your Parker anytime soon.
Overall I give this an 8 because most of the effects sound good and you can find most any basic sound you're looking for. Some of the things here I have no real use for (the Auto Ya is fun, but I've yet to find a good musical application for it) and others (like the Wah and Whammy sounds) I haven't really messed with because I already have a dedicated pedal (plus I think Wahs are overused and played out at this point).
By the way, the delays are beyond killer. I especially like the two second delay with infinite repeats. Budget sampler, ladies and gents.

I bought this about three months ago and have nad zero problems. The package is pretty sturdy so I think it can stand some stompin' on. It's not like I'm trying to kill it, tho. You might want to wait to read a review from someone who had beer poured on it before you decide on its gig-worthiness. Then again, at a hundred bucks. You can afford to buy a spare.
It gets a 7 just because it seems sturdy but I haven't really had it in destructive conditions.

Overall I'll give this thing a "10." you might look at the individual ratings and say that it doesn't deserve a 10 but let me reiterate here.
*THE THING COST A HUNDRED DOLLARS*
For a hundred dollars you get a helluva lot of bang for your buck. No, this isn't going ot replace your Pod. It's probably not even going to replace your RP-3. But it's a fun little toy for anyone who's wnted to get into multi-effects pedals but doesn't want to drop a lot of money. It's also great for all the four track hobbyist out there who live in an apartment. And as a travel tool (six AA batteries and some headphones) it's good for enjoying the outdoors. It's every bit as good sounding as my Pandora PX1 (which to me is the standard for great sounding, cheap multi effects) and while not quite as flexible as my Zoom 9002, it gets used a lot more (and the distortions on the Zoom are weak).
If it were lost or stolen I'd probably go ahead and upgrade to the RP-200 which is the same thing only with one or two added synth affects and a built in expression pedal (I started to knock this unit a point since the RP-200 came out like 2 weeks after I bought this. But that's not fair).

Yes, it's easy to use but I hate when ther are too many functions on a single knob. What if you have to reach down to fine tune a setting while you are playing a song?
Sound Quality
:

The RP100 is extremely noisy! Hiss, Hiss and more hiss! So much hiss that I won't be able to use it through an amp. The unit has the same amount of hiss in bypass as it does when the effects are on. I guess they never heard of a complete bypass? I have a 60's Fender Strat, Vibroverb and a 1963 Super Reverb. My amps are extremely quiet when the guitar is plugged directly into the amp. Even with the volume on 10 the hiss is barely audible. I play blues and don't need the distortion or amp modeling but this box makes a lot of hiss no matter what the unit is set on and there is no way to get rid of it. The signal to noise ratio is so bad that it could be used as a pink noise generator to calibrate your studio. The effects sound great except I don't see a way to adjust the volume level of the delay. A major bummer. Good frequency response and reverb tones but no overall mix control so it can't be used in a mixed effects loop. I even tried connecting it directly into a power amp and it was still noisy! Imagine miking your amp through a 1000 watt PA with the RP 100. The sound man will drop a mike stand on it just to get rid of it. This is a great idea and price but someone forgot to use a quality op amp! It won?t be in my rig on the gig... Too bad, I was looking forward to using it.

So far, so good. It is built solid and has a bright display. The only construction problem I found is that the battery cover latch protrudes slightly beond the ruber feet making it a little unstable.
I can't use it on a gig because the hiss would give me and the audiance a head ache. Reliability is unknown at this time.

Style: Blues.
Playing: 35 years.
Lost/Stolen: No, I'm going to return it if I can't eliminate the hiss.
Likes: Multiple effects, noise gate, compact, light weight.
Dislikes: Can't change effects or turn on/off without drop outs.
Favorite feature: It has a tunner but it's slow and inaccurate.
Why did I choose this one? I listened to the sales man.
Anything else I'd like to share?: Build a quiet stereo stomp box that has a Tunner, wa-wa, Flanger/chorus, noise gate, echo and reverb with independant on/off switches. Include level switches and a overall mix control so it can be used with a variety of effects loops and tube amps. Don't digitize the direct sound so the guitar sounds right when the bypass is on. Oh yea, it has to cost $120.00 with the power supply.

Now here is the crazy part. I got this for Christmas. It worked great, no problems. the batteries held up for a few hours and were still ok when I decided I wanted to exchange it for an RP 200. I got the RP 200, but I didn't like it because I liked having the option for batteries, and also, I was having some trouble with the unit. I took it back and got another RP 100 and also an AC adapter. That's when the trouble really began. Using the AC adapter, in the first preset, the sound started cutting in and out while I played. I'd play a riff and as I played along, the sound would cut out, as if it had a short or something,as if the guitar wasn't connected to the amp. It did this on all the presets, and the longer I played the worse it got. Finally, I lost the sound altogether. I called tech support and they said it sounded like something was wrong with the unit, something internal because when I used the bypass mode, there was no problem. So I took the unit back and got another one. The same thing happened. the sound cut in and out, and then got worse until I had no sound, and also, the knobs stopped working. The thing acted like it was dead. So I went back to the store, Guitar Center, and accompanied by the salesman I tried about 3 or 4 new ones right out of the box, and they all did the same thing, with the sound cutting in and out. After the second one that didn't work at home, I thought I must be doing something wrong, or it must be my setup, but now I was using the store's guitar and one new unit after another, and the problem was easy to repeat every time. the salesman witnessed the whole thing. He said I should just get my money back. But I really wanted one, so I took a new box home. At home, the problem recurred, but I found that it mostly happens when using the first preset. It seems that if I stay away from that one, the problem doesn't come up. But I took it to a friend's house to show him, with the batteries, and after he played around with it for not more than a couple of minutes, it died. First it cut in and out and then all the knobs stopped working, and the thing was dead. But since I've had it home, I've been able to use it. I just make sure I avoid that first preset--but once the problem starts, it effects all the presets, not just the first one. So I'm completely mystified by this, and I don't feel that it's reliable at all. I'm thinking of exchanging it for a Korg, but I still have most of my 30 days to return it so I'm giving it a try. I looked through a lot of these user reviews and oculd not find anyone else having this problem, so I still feel as if it must be something I'm doing wrong. But it happened to my friend too.

When I called, I didn't have to wait very long to get someone. But I felt that the techs were not knowledgeable--I called on two occasions. They did not seem to have any sense of how to trouble shoot the problem. and one told me I should send it in for repair. but it was less than a day old. I don't think so.

I play mostly blues and jazz and I'm happy with the RP 100. I've been playing 35 years. I own an 84 Les Paul, two Mexi strats (a standard and a super strat), a 70 Mustang, a Tokai (model unknown), a Fender Vibro Champ (old), and a Marathon practice amp. Plus several acoustic guitars of different kinds, including a Larrivee OM-25 with an LR Boggs dual system which sounds really nice with the RP-100.
If anyone has had any experience with the SERIOUS problem I described above, I would appreciate an email.

This is a review after two months of use. This effects back is very easy to get good sound from. Editing is so easy that once you learn the principle you'll never need the book again. I've found that it works best through an effects loop, at least for my purposes and with a solid state amp. I have learn this the hard way. I use a Rogue A/E 300 guitar and Rogue S/S CG30R and have use Fender Blues Jr. I think Solid State and the better the speakers the better the sound is the key. It can be noisy when plugged into the front or straight input. Some of the high gains are noisy but great sounding otherwise. The effects are great except wah. But I still don't have a pedal so take that with a grain of salt. I love the Matchless amp model for 60's british such as Beatles and Stones. Classic studio and clean are great. Cowpie for country, 50's rock, playing the instrumental "Walk, don't run," and the Fender amp models are great. I can get CCR right on. There are 40 presets and I use my favorites as is. My favorites in order: Matchless (match this) studio clean, drippy, cowpie, vibro thing, Be Bad. I use 4 or 5 of them most of the time. The chorus is the best effect. Panner is super, you can get really clean sounds and some really "bad" distortion, and you can get any kind of reverb you can think of, no joke. I need to check out wah with a pedal.

Play rock mainly, but can play country, heavy metal, blues. I can play any style with this box. I have certain settings, amp models programmed to do different thing. I literally can walk in to any jam session, hear their sound and match it or come close enough to it to jam with them in perfect harmony. I would suggest that cover bands buy one of these and match their tones by setting them up the same way and writing the different sounds down in a notebook for reference to sound like the top 40. I have moved presets around for my own use. For example: Studio clean is in position 1. I write studio clean at the top of a page and list songs I do on this settings along with the drum rythmn setting and tempo. For example, "Oh, What a Night," drums settings 15-(tempo)75) or 15/75 next to the song. I'm creating a notebook like this. I've been playing 24 years. I own a Rogue A'E 300, great guitar, Rogue CG30R, really decent small amps, lots of features, buying a Princetion 65 with effects loop. I'd buy it in a heartbeat again if it broke or was stolen. Probably buy the rp 200, which should have been the only model to start with since it does have the power cord and pedal. I love everything about it except I think the wah could be improved. As I said, rp 200 should have been the only one in this series to start with. I really wish the button that controls the drums on/off was footswitchable. I have to do strange song endings and sustained note/chord ending in order to reach over and stop the drum rythmn. But man is that drum trainer handy. I get so many good comments. Favorite features drum rythmn, matchless amp model, it is so good. I chose is because of its good reviews, which are the truth, and the price. I wish I had a pedal for it. I don't make music without it anymore. It is easy to carry with you and it makes you sound professional. I get so many positive remarks on it. I 'd like to say if you have to choose between a guitar amp and this rp 100 choose the rp 100. You can use it through your computer or stereo at home and sound really good. It really doesn't matter how cheap your guitar is either, it makes cheap amps and guitars sound pricey.

I have had no issues with running out fast on batteries, but I have only ran it a total of 2 hours on 1 set of alkalines. I would probably use it to gig, but I would write down all the critical patch settings (The bugger can't backup the patches. Small issue, patches are easy to copy at these prices) Digitech is usually pretty good to keep running, in my experience.

I like everything from rock to blues, to technopop (Remember Alphaville, The Fixx, Icehouse?) so I like some processing on my guitars (Aims telecaster, Tokai Vee)and this thing allows me to mimic the tones of a lot of different rigs, with a minimum of tweaking. I like the amp modeling, especially when going straight to the box (Car amp, or computer), but it also good going into my Hafler T2 tube preamp, then into my old Vox Pathfinder. It also sounds good out of my Mansfield 2x12 amp. The unit does sound best in stereo, so if you have a stereo loopback, use it.
I'd probably get the rp-200 as a replacement if stolen, but the unit is good enough with a 20 dollar volume pedal attached.

believe it or not i use the digitech a lot because i dont want to deal
with all my shit, it doesnt get noisy with noise gate a big tip is a simple one: almost never set the amp models on the gain all the way up

I am playing a B.C. Rich NJ series Warlock with an EMG 81 (bridge position) and an EMG gain circuit, through a Marshall JCM2000 tsl 2X12 with Celestion speakers, and it sounds fucking ELECTRIC. Well, pretty damn electric, for 99 bucks. Using the Mark II amp model, it gets as raw as my metal zone. I paid the same amount for this as I did for my metal zone, and it has all the crunch and a bunch of effects. When the gain is turned way up, though, it hisses. When you use the noise gate to correct this, there is a problem with notes sometimes swelling slightly. Not a huge problem though, and perhaps my attack is too light sometimes? The auto-yah is a total waste of space, and the chorus can't really stand on it's own, though it's not bad. With the pitch shifter set at -12, you can get super heavy death metal tones. (But don't-death metal is shit [boycott noise metal!]) You can get that twangy-reverb-surf type tone as well. The acoustic simulator is good too, but I like metal, and I want metal tone. With the RP-100, you can get most of the Thrash/Speed/Shred tones you're looking for.
Overall, pretty damn good sound for 99 bucks.

I have not really had it long enough to say how reliable it really is. One thing though (this doesn't really have anything to do with the reliability)-the second day I had it, the display started freaking out...I did a factory reset (and lost all my saved presets...grr) and found out about 2 minutes later that the batteries were dead...after about 1 hour of use. If you are using this at a gig, you BETTER have an AC adaptor...if not, expect your new batteries (that you just spent 8 bucks on) to be dead in about 2 minutes.

I listen to REAL metal...(Megadeth, Maiden, Overkill, Nuclear Assault, Sacred Reich, Slayer, Obituary, etc. etc.) Through the clean channel on my amp, I am able to emulate just about anyone's tone...perhaps not always EXACTLY right on, but pretty damn close-definitely close enough for my hammerhead friends to tell who'se tone it is. I was impressed when I pulled it out of the box and nailed Gustafson's tone from Taking Over in about 5 minutes. I also use it clean with the reverb set on hall, this sounds really good for some Beethoven. I have been using my metal zone for about 2 years, and wasn't really worried about getting new effects, but I'm glad I bought this. The rhythm trainer is a nice feature too...When I'm playing a scale, I play it along with the drum track, starting out with the tempo at about 85, moving it up 1 degree every few minutes. By the time I work my way up to 96 or 97, I know that my muscles have retained some memory...you can feel it in your arm. My speed increased dramatically in the first 2 weeks that I had this thing...and jamming with generic drum tracks is a lot more fun than a metronome. One thing, however-it would be nice if there were a way to program the order that it scrolls through the presets, for example-stomping the pedal would skip from 2 to 33 (or whatever, according to the programming). It sucks when you want to go from your rhythm preset to your lead preset and you have to scroll through looking for it. I suppose you could set your rhythm to 1 and your lead to 2, but a lot of times it's a pain the ass to switch all your presets around, and you can end up losing some of your creations if you aren't careful.
If you buy an Rp-100, don't even bother buying batteries. An AC adaptor is about 25 bucks. If you want to use the wah, you have to buy a volume pedal. If you are looking to buy an RP-100, though, it would probably be wise to get the RP-200, it doesn't require a seperate pedal and it doesn't need batteries...you would spend about the same amount and have everything in one package.
Overall, DEFINITELY worth 99 bucks.

I think this little box is Digitech's master creation. After playing other RP's for years I have to say this thing rocks. It's got 24 bit converters, something unheard of in $99 effects. I am playing it through a Mesa Mark2 and it sounds very transparent with the amp modeling off. I run it through the effects loop and it makes a huge difference. Effects processors should be run thru effects loops not into the preamp as most people do. This gives more headroom and transparency. Right now i'm getting some very nice tones out of this thing, although it takes a little bit of time. I can make my Mesa sound "identical", no kidding to my old fender tube amp. Kind of like the SRV tone, very bluesy and expressive. The reverbs are very good and also the delays. The modulation effects are pretty good, except for the auto-ya, sounds very crappy, the rest of the effects are pretty much standard Digitech . I think for 99 bucks its a steal. Ten years ago a device like this would cost hundreds if not thousands.

Don't use the batteries unless you're the gambling type. Here's my tale.
I put fresh AA batteries in this box. I plugged in some headphones and played through all of the patches to give it a listen. Then I worked up some patches for my acoustic and my electric. A total of maybe an hour on the batteries. Then I took it to practice and a gig, total time on the unit there was two hours. At some point I was trying to tune my guitar with it when I noticed it was in an alternate tuning mode. I spun the knob to get it right, then later thought I saw the screen glitch. A few songs later, NO SOUND. The batteries were dead and I still had another song to go (no matter that I had to switch guitars due to a broken string - rough night).
This pedal has the option to separately purchase an AC power adapter, which I had, I just didn't bring it that night. I would suggest that you buy it if you want this pedal and don't want to be severely displeased when they die.

I would recommend this pedal if you want something simple to use for live sound. It's definitely not a recording unit. If you're going to use the expression pedal input, I would recommend upgrading to the RP200. It gives you much more control over the parameters you can assign to the pedal, adds a few more effects, and gets rid of the temptation to use batteries, since you can't - they include the power plug. After two sets of batteries, a really cheap $10 expression pedal, and finally buying a AC plug ($20), you're getting a better pedal for the same price.

It is very easy to use. You just turn it on and search the patches for the sound you want. Editing is very simple.Just scroll down through the parimeters and make your adjustments. The manual is set up nicely. Explains everything about it in detail.

I am using an Epiphone G-400 and a Fender Strat Affinity series guitars with Seymour Duncan pickups. I have a Marshall JCM800 Lead Series 2204 amp and same model 2*12 cabinet, a Peavey Studio Pro 112 , and a Peavey Rage158.This product is not noisey accept on the trebly sounding patches. Other than that it sounds great on most patches as is.I think the effects are pretty good. The chorus, Flanger, and phaser sound great. I like AC/DC and fortunatly for me the Stack and the Angus patches are right on. I get Malcolm's rythem and Angus's lead sound. Just a little tweaking of the EQ.I like the 80's sound and I can acheive it with this. Most of the patches are usable with a little tweaking.

I think I can depend on it. It seems to be made sturdy. I don't play in a band so I can't reply on it's live use. Though once and a while the thing bugs out and you loose your presets. It makes this bad shrill sound. Then you have to reset it.

I have never had to deal with them. I did Email them once asking if they were ever going to have a patch library on their web site for it. I think it would be great to hear what sounds other users have made with it.

I play mainly rock and roll like AC/DC,and other 70's and 80's music.
I have been playing for about a year and a half. I also have a Boss Blues Driver which is great too and I had a Metal Zone but I traded it for the Blues Driver. The Metal Zone's sound was too much.I had wanted to buy a bunch of pedels of different distortions and effects to make my own sound ,but it would've been too expensive and it wasn't worth it. I saw the RP100 in a magazine and it looked great. It had everything on it that I was looking for and at a great price. I didn't try it out first, I just bought it and I was satisfied. I first looked at getting pedals and than a processor. I looked at the Korg AX1000 , the Line6 POD ,and the RP2000 but they were too expensive and looking at the reviews for the them ,it didn't seem that they were all cracked up to be. From what everybody else says. The things that I think it could improve upon is first making it able to scroll up and down the parimeter, maybe a plain reverb knob, and maybe a full equilizer 7 or 8 band to really fine tune your sound.I like this product because I can get the tones of about any band you could think of. It has made playing a little more enjoyable and kind of helps you to expand your playing styles. Overall I am very satisfied with the RP100. It was my first processor and it is great for a beginner who is looking to have a great pallet of sound options. Very affordable and worth the price. I would buy it again if I was in the market for one.

Main use is as a direct recording device. Don't use it live, but in the event of an amp blowing up in the middle of a gig, you could pull this thing out, go right into the board and sound fine. The effects are pretty good. I don't use the high-gain stuff. I really like the tweed deluxe sound, and the twin sound is fair. The marshall stack sound is ok if you turn the gain almost all the way down.

I play country/blues (Lee Roy Parnell, Delbert McClinton, Steve Earle)I've been playing guitar for a total of 7 years, as a full-time professional for the past three. I own 4 strats, 1 Tele, 1 Takamine acoustic, various amps, PA, recording, effects, stomp-boxes, etc. If it were stolen I'd get another one right away. I did compare it to the POD. In fact I had a POD for a few days and returned it. The POD has more and better tube amp sounds, but I just didn't think it was worth the money. With the RP-100 you get MUCH more overall, for one-third of the price.

Few but flexible parameters. The only-2-digits display does not help a lot. But the lists printed on the effect box make up a little. Nice tuner, but a little erratic. Up/down pedals for 40 presets and connection for optional expression pedal for volume/wha/whammy. I don't need more than this.

Guitar technology has never been as good as today's. For its price (and a lot more, too), you can't find anything else on the second hand market with comparable quality. Grab it. If you can spend more, get the Line 6 products, but this is very good, too. Don't forget that anyway this is a typical multieffect to be tweaked a lot to make it sound good. But it will. It's specially difficult to find a good equilibrium between the eq (that is only post-amp, therefore without any effect on widening the kind of sound of the amp models) and the cabinet simulation. You need the latter only if you don't use a guitar amp, otherwise the tone will be very bad (typical example: listen to the demo sound on the Digitech web site - why did they do that?). The other effects are of very good quality.
The tone doesn't change a lot according to your dynamic/volume pot, but it's acceptable.
Both direct recording and a guitar amp work well with this baby.

I wanted something for my homework, so that I don't have to carry home my official stuff, even if now, after the big racks of the past, I just use a Line 6 Flextone (great!). And for this purpose it's perfect. I just wonder why I must tweak so much the eq and the cabinets... I lose my time instead of playing.
Anyway for that little money, you also get some useful rhythmic samples, and a decent acoustic guitar simulation. Is there still anybody against what technology can do for us?

I found the RP100 very easy to use. The presets are actually usable, not excessive showcases like some presets are on other multi effects. Then from there you just have to reach down and turn a knob to adjust gain, amp type, and master level. Hit the select button to tweak the the patches, and while in the patch you can tweak at the knob, and experiment, just like your favorite stompbox, but since one knob usually selects the effect, you usually limited to 2 adjustments. Then when you find a sound you like, just hit the store button, select the patch you want to store to, and hit it again.
Overall I don't think it could be much easier. Similar to the Zoom 505's setup, but it lacks banks, which would have been a nice addition.

I feel this sounds very good, for the price your paying. It doesn't quite sound great, but it is an inexpensive pedal. The RP100s instructions recomend running it through the effects return on your amp, but I like the sound of it through the front of my Fender HR DeVille better than through the power amp.
My main reason for buying this was to get a high gain sound for direct recording, that doesn't sound buzzy and treblely, and this does it well. I like to use the Rectified model, with the cab/mic sim on the warm 4x12, and the mic in the center position. The clean sounds are good too, but I haven't played with them much yet. Some complain about Digitechs being noisy on high gain settings, but I use it near my computer, and have noisy wiring in my apartment, so I wouldn't know, I just use the noise gate alot. Properly set up it does a great job of creating silence between the playing, and still letting the playing through. If you turn it up too much it starts to make the note swell.
I started out using it to record, but since I live in an apartment, and can't practice at high volumes, I've been using it almost all the time. It is a great practice tool for use at home, because you can get big sounds at low volumes, and have good sounding drums to play with too.

I have no past experience with Digitech, so based off the RP100, I'm pretty impressed. I was not expecting it to have a die-cast casing, which gives it a heavy, rugged feel. The knobs do feel flimsy, and while they are counter sunk from the pedals, they do stick up a bit. I can see these getting kicked alot. Which leads me to also question the quality of te internals, but what else would you expect for the price it costs, and what it does.

The RP100 is probably the first under $100 product that does a decent job of keeping up with my musical schizophrenia, is excellent for practiceing at low volumes, and is a good direct recording tool. For these reasons I'm giving it high ratings

This thing has great soud right out of the box. It is realy one of the best I have seen for a all in one amp model/ processor. Editing patches is easy, but there are so many options that you could be at it for some time. This is a pluse in my opinion, as you can get any sound you want from this thing. there are some web pages out there that have some patches by others, but I wish there were more. This unit will do well for the player who doesn't want to tweek it , as well as the one who likes to play with his processor for hours at a time.

awesome.Instant rack sound - lukather/vai etc.I use the stack with compression for palm muted metallica stuff and the stack with boosted mids and no comp for gary moore style blues. The rectifier model was a bit too dark for my liking, good for lead but less so for chugging.
I doubt if its as accurate in simulating the lower gain stuff, but i dont care as im much less fussy with my clean sounds than the high gain stuff..not much call for it in 80`s hard rock.
I also have the zoom gfx-8 for gigs, but wanted something small for practice.I use the rp-100 into a sovtek head and 1x12 cab ands its killer for the size/weight.This replaces the gfx into peavey power amp and 4x12 for smaller gigs. This thing easily sounds as good as my ada/rocktron/marshall mega rack as well(which is 15u high and impossible to move- still i love it!)

This unit is one of the new modleing units that have been popping up from almost every manufacturer. It is in my opinion that none of these tones come close to hitting the mark. That being said, there are some decent and usable tones. I particularly like the "Stack" and the "Boutique" (when gain is dialed down). "Tweed" and "Blackface" are acceptable clean tones. The "Rectified" "High Gain" and "Hot Rod" are too over-the-top for anything but Metal, unless you dial the gain and level way dow, but then again, that's not the point of those models.
The effects are IMHO, not perfect, but usable. The Reverb, Tremolo, Rotary, and Compressor are my first choices as keepers. Flange, Phase and Gate, I don't see myself using. I won't touch the Chorus, And I cant for the life of me figure out what they were thinking with the "Auto-Ya".
One standout that I dig is the "Cabinet Simulator". You have 3 cabs and 4 mic placements. I have too much fun on this setting.
Also a huge plus, the Drum Loops. Great for practicing. Although a few of the loops leave me a little perplexed, the others are decent. Great feature, good move DigiTech....

My purpose for buying this thing is this: Practice/Songwriting/Demo recording.
Being not currently in a band I needed something that I could use as a versital one-man-band direct line in thingy. This machine fit the bill to a "T". THough the headphone output is very weak, plugging in into a 4 track and using it to power the headphones gives decent volume there. Using it as a distortion pedal for my Blues Pearl feels a little like heresey, it still gets a plus for actual use, though I doubt I ever will.
This unit is nothing to rave about as far as actually emulating the sounds goes. But its versatility and features make it a contender. And as a practice tool, it gets very high marks. Great value for a mere $100.

I bought the RP-100 after reading this message board. I play an American Std Strat with EMG-SA's into an ADA MP-1, JCM 900, Soldano 2x12 cab. I try and stay away from gadgets like the RP-100 because after almost 20 years of playing I'd like to think that I've "out-grown" things like $100 processors. WRONG!! Sure, it is not as pure sounding as my main rig but it comes darn close. This is without a doubt the best $99 I've ever spent on musical gear. My advise is BUY one TODAY. You can spend more than $99 taking your date to dinner with nothing to show the next day, so cancel dinner and buy an RP-100.

Very easy to use. Once you get the hang of it you can program a patch in just a couple minutes. Manual makes it easy to use i fyou have questions. Only reason I would not give it a 10 is that you cannot switch between patches without some sound disruption, <example> You cannot switch directly from patch 1 to patch 25, you have to actually hold the pedal down until it gets to the number you want.

You should be able to play many styles of music with this unit. I have been playing for 15 years and owned many effects units. It not the best unit on the market, but it is most definetly the best for the money you can buy. You WILL NOT get more for your money than this unit. You should be able to do most anything you want with the rp-100. I just sold my rp-6 and this thing is the reason why. It kills it sound wise. It also has a built in drum machine that plays pre recorded drum beats to jam along with. If they could have made a better way to switch between patches that are not located next to each other, this thing would be a solid 10 for the money, $95.

It's really easy to use and it's really practical. You do not have to get into really details in tweaking just for practising. The editing patches is simple and straight forward. The manual is good it offers enough information. However it does not provide the do and don'ts to maintain the unit (i'm really critical in this). At least they could specify some tips, like do not expose it under the direct sunlight and stuff like that (hey even if everyone knows that, who the hell cares, we need to secure our investment, it's 370 AUD you know)

not really too much noise. except some hiss sounds but overall it is still acceptable. I really hate the wah sounding the clean sound are acceptable but not what i expected. Distortions sounds just nice.
I tried to duplicate the joe satriani's style of sound and the unit delivers just enough i think about 60% accurate. Chorus, flangers just acceptable. They all sounds pretty much the same anyway no matter who produce it. The rectified is a killer and it is my fav. The stack is nice you can really get the distinct heavy metal sounds. For wah use the crybaby. No other effects could match with the real one you know

The unit look fragile. I would use it on a gig. Well my opinion is no matter what you use there is always a way to exploit it. Try to relocate the patches in order that is suitable for you. For my playing i usually only use up to 5 patches that is one for soloing (distortion), for backing or rythm, clean sounds and some exotic sounding just for a nice touch of the song and another clean sounds with alot of high gain and reverb so yes i would use this unit for a gig but for using it without a backup I would not.

It is just nice compare to effect such as zoom. But for digital modelling unit. I stil prefer the johnson amplification
I've been playing for almost 3 years now and i have the VF-1 from Boss which is really kick ass. Compare with products such as korg and yamaha it stands. I love the distortion really much For distortion I would say Digitech is the best. I've used me-30 before compare to RP100 it sounds really shit but hey that's an old product if you're looking for RP2000 sounds but not enough budget this is the unit you should turn to. I've also used a GT-3 before and you can't really compare this unit to GT-3 it's different type. Compare to pod, Pod is still better (a little bit) but for a price of a boss digital delay the RP100 stands. For whoever you are who is buying an effect i would highly recommend the RP100. Very easy to use. The unit uses a scrolling matrix to move through parameters. Each section of the matrix has 3 parameters that are tweakable. It doesn't allow you to get extemely deep within the parameters, but certainly enough to customize your sounds. One pain in the neck is in the scolling, if you pass the parameters you wish to tweak, you have to scoll all the way back through all other parameters to get back to the one you wish to change.

I love it for what I use it for!! I currently play in a cover band that plays out on weekends. I have a big midi rack that powers 2 4x12s for playing live that I use for gigs. Its a big pain in the neck to set up my live rig for practicing at home!!! I also have a Marshall mini stack (15 watt head, 2 1x10 cabs) that I use to practice that I bought more for the novelty of it than the sound. Don't get me wrong, the little amp sounds pretty good for that 1 Marshall sound it gives you, but it's not versatile and has no effects. I wanted to get something to spice up my practice amp along the lines of a POD or J-Station, but didn't want to spend another $300 just for a practice setup on top of what the amp cost. When I saw the RP100, it seemed like the perfect fit!! Only $99 and you get amp models and effects!!
I really like the way the RP100 sounds, however I'm not using it to record or using it for gigs and I'm not really that concerned how close the amp models are. I'm just looking for a nice clean sound, bluesy sound, rock rhythm sound and rock lead sound that sounds good and is fun to play, and this delivers. Most people rave about the rectifier model. I think it's OK, but I much prefer the High Gain model for my rock sounds. I prefer a Van Halen (Fair Warning era) type tone and that model really delivers. Add a touch of chorus, delay and reverb and I'm completely satisfied. The Blackface models sounds great for a nice clean setting. Again, I don't know how close the models are, I'm just looking for a few nice sounds to spruce up my practice amp (or play through headphones) and make it fun to play without setting up my whole live rig, and this thing fits the bill perfect. I don't intend to use this for gigs so I'm not really sure how it would work in a live situation, but it certainly won't replace my rack setup (and this was never the intention). I haven't tried running it through my Mesa 2:90 amp to two 4x12s yet, but I probably will just to check it out. I guess if disaster struck and my rig crashed during a gig I could use this through a power amp to bail me out, but I'm hoping/praying that never happens.

A repost my first review I did too early, this one is a little more detailed
A cool pedal that I really enjoy small enough for my gig bag and sounds great. I have gotten some really great sounds out of this unit but it did take some time. The modeled sounds I have noticed seemed to be modeled tube amp that is real hot master punched and all of that. This really seems to help out when I am playing I think this has a little more feel than line6 wouldn?t say it sounds better. The effects are great I am using my ernie ball volume pedal as expression pedal the whammy is quite cool the wah is not bad sounding but it is noisy when not played. I do get some white noise usually when the batteries are on their last leg. The EQ takes some getting used to just takes a little time to master wish it had a little more in that department. Overall I have gotten 4 real usable sounds that I can use playing and have gotten compliments on my sound clean, lite tweed crunch, marshal sound, killer mesa boogie rectifier sound. I am using a ernie ball axis with this pedal and this guitar seems to compliment the pedal. I am using this, as my preamp into effects loop of tech 21 and it sounds great even when it?s punched all the way. Its pretty cool only having a volume pedal and small effects board on the floor. I haven?t got sick of this and I have had it for 2 months a cool guitar tool in my book and the spring reverb setting actually sounds like a spring reverb.
