DigiTech X-Series Digital Delay

Tape delay only !!! Use it in the effect loop !!!
In a Band and live setting, its allright.
You play alone, than you will notice that the tone gets smaller sometimes...nothing dangerous...but dont compare it to a t rex or maxon...but for the price im pleased.

5 years of trusty work.

I change to a hardwire delay now, I use it only at gigs, because when some beer is washing my pedals I get a new harwire delay, but when the same would happen to my Trex or fulltone i go crazy... because they are expensive....

Very straigh-forward. Effect Level, Repeat, and Time knobs. The tap tempo feature is a little cumbersome as you have to hold for three seconds and then tap (while the effect is engaged). This compared to the Line 6 Echo Park where you can simply tap and do it while the delay is bypassed. I have not had a chance to play around with the loop feature as I am not a loop sort of guy, but it's there and it's probably pretty intuitive based on how easy the rest of it is to use. Put it this way, I didn't look at the manual at all. I considered it after a while, but when I glanced at it it didn't tell me anything I didn't already know from using it for 15 minutes.

This thing is clean and noise free. I does not color the signal. It is surprisingly warm for a Digitech and considering it is not an analogue delay. Before purchasing, I comped it next to the Boss DD-3, Line 6 Echo Park, Ibanez AD9, and MXR Carbon Copy. I knew that the last two were out of my price range, but I really wanted to compare a "warm" digital to a true analogue. As has been pointed out, analogue delay is a totally different animal from digital delay. That being said, the Digidelay was far and away the most warm out of the three digital delays I played. This held true over all of the settings on the pedal.

The only tonal complaint I would have is that there is a high pitched tone when the tap is engaged. It didn't occur when I tried it at the store, but when I got it home it happened. This is a problem for those who use tap tempo a lot. I don't mind dialing in things by ear so I'm willing to use that feature sparingly to retain the benefits of the rest of the pedal. I may return it for another one to see if it's just this particular pedal, but I'm not too concerned about it.

I've only had it overnight. I very much plan to gig out with it, starting this Friday night and I do not have a backup delay. I'm not too worried about it. It seems very ruggedly constructed. The knobs are particularly sturdy, especially compared to the teeny flimsy little things on the Line 6 Echo Park that I was afraid I'd break off just while I ws trying it out.

This would be a near perfect digital delay pedal for the price if it had a less cumbersome tap tempo function. In a perfect world I'd put the tap feature from the Echo Park on the Digidelay and it would be a 10.

I use the Digidelay only in the effect loop of the Screamer ( 9-oklock ) and only at live gigs... because it has a good sound with my live setup, it works since 4 years without any problem and its everywhere to get and "cheap" to replace when something will happen !! My Setting is shown above. And never use this delay in front of youre Amp the clean sound can work when you like to play with the setting of youre amp but overdrived its the noizyest **** **** I ever must listend at.
In the studio i use other Stuff ( Fulltone, TC Electronics, T Rex ).

4 years, 100 of gigs, works ! perfect.

And this works for that.
Somebody would steal it ? I buy it again.
I like the easy simple little box because is set it once up and never must care of anything depent on it.
Play, its all in youre Hands and mind, not in the effects you use.

Just read my first Digidelay review I did 3 years ago here on HC. I must say, after 4 years of continued use, the digidelay is still going strong and I still dig the tones it provides. It has become an indespensible part of my tone chain. These days, it's mostly set for a slight, modulated delay that fattens things up so well. I also use the tape and solo settings, but the mod delay is so lush and beautiful.....with two amps, kind of a poor mans ( very poor! ) TTE. Well, that may be quite a stretch, but I can get some heavenly tones running stereo with two amps. It sounds killer with overdrive and distortion, but I find myself playing much cleaner as the sweet, fat sound is so addicting. All in all, a great pedal and one of the great bargains for all the tone and features they packed in. I still don't use half of the features, but it's nice to know they are there if needed. Still keeping my original 9 rating on this bad boy.

It has lots of options, which is great, but it does make it more complicated. having said that, it shouldn't be beyond the intelligence of most musicians.
the basic models are easy to get a good sound out of, the multitap and reverse take a bit more time, and some may need to practice the tap tempo feature, although i was impressed with how easy it was.

All things considered, not too hard really.

Sound quality is good, no lack of tone. nice and crisp, but also warm on the tape mode and mod delay.
it does a great range of delay sounds, from slapback to ridiculously long.
the reverse is funky and weird, although i'm not sure how useful it will be for most.

one slight problem is that with my Telecaster, engaging the tap tempo feature brings a bit of a high pitched squealing sound, not loud but annoying... don't know if this is because of excess noise from the tele pickups, plus it's at the end of a fair length chain(??)

(incidentally, my setup is Tokai 335--> Rocktron wah--> Seymour Duncan pickup booster--> Belcat Chorus--> Danelectro Wasabi Tremolo--> BOss BF-2 flanger--> Digitech Delay.

i've only had it 2 weeks, but i'd say it seems very sturdy - would be surprised if it let me down. i'd take a chance without a backup.

don't know. you'd hope a big company like Digitech would be ok, but you never know....

i've been play 16 years.
i gig in a cover band, i use this for Dave Gilmour style atmospheric delay and some short stuff, even slapback sutff.
overall i think it's a good buy.
if you're looking at this it's probably for it's versatility and the different modes. in tha regard it's great.
sound quality is solid.

Muy usable, intuitivo y facil de sacar un sonido convincente, no hace falta leerse muy por encima el manual, s??lo para enterarse de las funciones que no son evidentes, como la activaci??n del emulador de recinto y la habilitaci??n del looper y del tap tempo.

Muy buen sonido sin colorear la se??al en exceso, no creo que lleve true bypass pero es limpito. Lo estoy usando en el loop de fx de un fender hot rod deluxe junto a un CF7 y un PS5 de boss y da un delay bastante neutro. El pedal da los registros que se esperan hasta los 4 segundos (creo) y viene dividido en tres secciones (hasta 250ms?) (hasta 2) y hasta 4. Estos delays digitales dan un sonido estandar que se puede equiparar f??cilmente a los boss m??s caros, pero a partir de aqu?? empiezan los extras. Lo m??s musical y utilizable del pedal es el emulador de echo tape, que es muy org??nico, si bien pierde cierto volumen con relaci??n al resto de setups y conviene ser generoso con el volumen de delay en este caso. Existen otras rarezas como el delay + chorus del selector 5 que une al sonido seco unas repeticiones moduladas que evitan en ciertos casos prescindir del chorus sin sustituirlo. El delay inverso del selector 6 esta bien pero no lo veo muy ??til. El looper con poco tiempo (creo que 8 segundos) se lo pod??an haber ahorrado y meterle otras prestaciones adicionales que har??an del pedal el m??s potente del mercado econ??mico (abstenerse de comparar con los TC), como un on off independiente para cuando se usa el tap tempo ya que hay pasajes de algunas ejecuciones que exigen el silencio de delay y luego no es posible memorizarlo. Ser??a tambien muy bien recibido un display digital para controlar los tiempos de delay, pero ya es pedirle mucho por ese precio.

No ha hecho falta, espero que nunca la haga, en cualquier caso si se rompe igual pruebo ya solo con un emulador de echo tape, que es realmente lo que mas me mola.

Es por supuesto una elecci??n muy interesante para gastarse poco, y en su nivel de precios es la elecci??n m??s potente comparable de igual a igual con el m??s caro boss dd6, (que no s?? que le ve la gente en gastarse el doble por lo mismo), se adapta bien a todos los estilos que requieren de delays.
Llevo tocando (??a ver cuantos eran?) 28 a??os y ya vengo un poco quemado de los rack de efectos as?? que despues de una peque??a crisis musical he vuelto a los origenes de los pedalitos (stomps) y amplis de valvulas, para sacrificarlo todo en favor del tono.
Si se perdiera o rompiese igual me tiraba a por un TC (algo carillo) o un danelectro dan echo (muy baratillo)que aunque es solo emulador de echo tape va m??s por mis preferencias actuales que pasan a rayar el integrismo vintage

Using a delay pedal in general can be a pain in ass if you're new to it, but I've found it has the relatively same learning curve as most Delay pedals do. Once you figure out exactly what you need to hear, it should become a cinch in no time as the captions are completely self-explanatory. "Repeat." "Time." There's no real mystery there, but it takes some time to feel the increase and decrease of each out.

The sampler itself is a good necessity, but it's going to take some getting used to an timing if the use of a sampler is new to you. The reverse function is.. well.. pretty worthless, but it's a good addition to have if you're like me and the last five minutes of jamming is pulling all the noise you can out of your guitar, like Sonic Youth.

And, like what's been said, the first time my battery blew out in a Digitech pedal, I thought my amp ate itself. Turns out this thing goes through batteries like Adema go through labels. Save yourself a lot of trouble and pain and buy an adapter, it even tells you what kind you need on the back of the device.

Sound quality is where this effect pedal excels. I've played a few other delay pedals, and outside of spending more than $120, this is hands-down the best sound you're going to get.

Everything about it is clean and shimmering; the tape delay sounds extremely glassy and smoothe, while you can even bring your pedal into complete psychadelic overdrive in Mod Delay and create a wall of pentatonic waves. There is really absolutely nothing the setting won't let you voice, if you take the time to get the feel.

One thing I've noticed about this pedal, and it's something David Gilmour used for Pink Floyd: Using a small bit of delay or reverb on a guitar played through a distorted or overdriven channel can really smoothe out the raw frequencies and provide a much more bright and smoothe notes on the high-end, or even beef up some low-end crunching.

The sampler is another selling aspect of the stompbox. First of all, when I bought this, I didn't want a sampler. I didn't want a sampler, because I didn't think I needed a sampler. After playing around with it, I not only realized how much of an asset it is for writing things like dual-guitar harmonies, or intricate dueling riffs, but it completely reshaped what kind of music I wanted to write, which now is Psychadelic metal. The only real complaint here, which should be standard, is that after overlapping four different layers, certain ones start to become muddy, but let's be real, it's a small problem, and there's no real way around it. There's definitely some worth, though. It makes you feel like you're Tripton and Downing, but you don't need someone else.

Battery life is absolutely artocious, like I mentioned before. It would barely survive an hour-long jam session, so using an adapter is key.

However, the only problem I have had with my pedal is a local band I lent it to somehow managed to lose the rubber piece that connects the pedal to the hardware. It's easily mended by anything. Paper, a pencil eraser, anything.

Other than that, this thing is built like a fortress. I have the feeling I could throw it out the window and I'd still have a pedal afterwards.

Never dealt with Customer support, mainly because I didn't need to.

I play a concoction of Pink Floyd, Atheist, Meshuggah, Neurosis, The Clash, Cave-In and Cynic, and I just call it Psychadelic Metal. This pedal is key, because if you're able to set the controls accurately, you can play with time and create layers to use as rhythmic subdivisions, or create extremely melodic and stellar walls of sound that feel all-encompassing. You can pretty much shift the mood of your music from extremely beautiful, calm, and placid, to something nightmarish just by changing your picking speed.

I've been playing guitar for about three and a half years now, and I run it using either an Ibanez GRG 170DX or an ESP Ltd. M-207 through a Peavey Transtube Bandit 112, with an Ibanez Weeping Demon Wah. It can handle a chain of effects extremely well, though, and if it were stolen, it'd be replaced immediately, I feel it's essential.

Another one of the small downsides is the reverse sampler. At times, it's cumbersome and annoying to operate and time. Though, it's a nice feature, it doesn't really make a difference stacked up against the rest of the features.

Essentially, this pedal is a must for an single-effect stompbox user. The customization is top-tier and well-worth the relatively decent pricing.

when you dont have any idea about a delay, you need maybe 2 houres to have youre good sound.
When you know about delays, 5 minutes.

Great, I have two of this !! The first is in tab mode, with a decent delay to give all of my sounds ( clean,chrunch,lead, whatever )
a littel extra dimension. I use it for nearly every song.
Its warm sounding, the repeats are soft and nice.
But attention !! you must use the mono input ( ther is a second input for left - right sounds, but for that you need two cabinets !! ).
Also, when you use the reverb or overdrive of youre amp, you MUST have it in the FX loop of the amp, becouse of overloaded noize !! The mono input has also a very great speaker simulation, that let any of my amps sounds a littel bit "bigger", when I turn the delay in.
I want for my effectboard a chorus, so I decide to buy a second digidelay and have it at mode 5, because this is a chorus + delay,
realy great for clean playing and also OK for Zakk Wylde Lead lines.
I have compare this against the Boss, Line 6 and Ibanez Stombboxes and
the sound was the first thing that let my buy it, the second reason was the price and the 3th the build quality...Its a buffered bypass and it makes no noize and dont influences the MAIN sound when its off.
I use them with a Visual one spot, no problems.
The other modes are ok but unuseless for me.

I play since 16 years, now Im 30... Bluesy, jazzy and fusion stuff, but my main sound is "seattle" grunge orientated music ( Pearl Jam, Alice in Chains, Pumpkins etc. ). Im a semi pro and gig with my Band 2-6 gigs a month. The Digidelays are becoming a important, main part of my style and sound. If something happen with it, I would buy another one.
For me its perfect and I dont need anything else. Maybe if i had the money, I would check this Trex, Tc Electronics delays for about 400 euros...well.

There are a number of functions on this pedal, and despite what others might say ("its got knobs, you turn them around, duhh easy") it does take some getting used to get your head around the looping feature. Plus there are major volume differences between (say) the Tape emulation and the Mod delay settings, which can take you off guard if you want to switch settings on the fly.

NOTE: You MUST buy an AC Adapter to get the full potential out of this pedal. I took one of these home, after just minutes the delay sound just decayed off and then this nasty fizzing sound started building up... I heard a popping noise and the pedal no longer worked at all. I honestly thought I had been sold a dud pedal. But when the same problem happened to the replacement pedal I figured it must be a battery problem (we all know delay pedals eat batteries). Buying an AC adapter completely solved the problem, and the sound quality (bitrate?) seems better too. This thing sounds fantastic, especially the Tape emulation and Mod delay settings. The other guitarist in my band has a far more expensive Boss-DD and even he has remarked about the sounds this one pumps out. Digitech should really be proud of this puppy.

Infact, there is one distinct feature that this pedal completely trumps my bandmate's Boss delay pedal: trailing. After a delayed section of a song, I can step on this pedal and deactivate the delay. However, the current delay signal just smoothly fades off underneath as per your "Repeat" setting. So you can make the transition from all out shimmer to a gentle strum so beautifully. I'm not sure if the newer Boss DD pedals do that, but certainly the DD-3 doesn't.

There is one minor annoyance however - the Reverse setting. It's fantastic that they squeezed all of this into a single pedal, however the sound quality of the reversed 'sample' is fairly low-ish quality (kinda like comparing a 96k bitrate MP3 song to the real CD). Plus it does have some popping sounds when the reversed sample pings back... but this is probably the sound of the guitar picking being repeated, but it just seems so pronounced. Still, an excellent pedal.

As mentioned above. Reliability with a battery is zilch. It wouldn't last a rehearsal, let alone a gig. This thing sucks mA multiple times faster than a regular distortion pedal. Save yourself a headache and get an AC adapter (ask at your guitar shop, or find one at your local electronics shop). With an adapter, this thing has yet to let me down. I haven't blamed the pedal for anything!

I'm into the sprawling instrumental rock (ala Mogwai / Explosions in the Sky) stuff, and this pedal is an excellent alternative to Boss' range... excluding the DD-20 which is pretty much the ultimate! I love the features on this thing, like flicking the Repeats all the way up and while the delay repeats forever, being able to mess with the Time knob to get some bizzare electro-pitch shifted sounds. I don't use the Loop function and the Reverse setting is a nice touch though fairly average. The delays are what this thing is made for and it delivers on every level. Most people love the Tape emulation (which rolls off the high end with each decay, leaving a warm bassy tone looping off to nothingness) but the Mod and standard delays sound sweet too. Combined with my nice Fender amp reverb, you can do everything off Explosions in the Sky 'The Earth is not a Cold Dead Place' and then some!

4 knops ? how difficult can it go ??

I have it since 3 years in my chain and its still great.
I use only the tabe mod. Volumen at 12 oclock, repeats at 9, time at 14 ... so this is a setting that, I can use for nearly everything.
Mod 5 ads a chorus wich is a nice " toy " when I get tired or want play some extreme psychedelic stuff.
The other mods are not important for me. Becouse when I play life, I want just put in some extra dimension to my sound with only one step to switch it on and off.
I test it against the boss dd3 dd5, Ehx deluxe memory man, Ibaneze and Maxon AD 9 and this is the winner.
Maybe when I have the money I will checkout this TC Electronic vintage delay or T Rex Replica.
The digidelay works fine at life gigs and in the studio.
A delay is a great but sensetive effect, that you can not use everytime with youre Band ( mudd sound ).
But Its also a "open minder".
Try one out, for the money good pice of gear.

I play since 20 years the last 10 as session, party cover and private teacher and earn a bit of money with that, as my main job.
The sound, technick and "musician soul" that makes you to a great player is only in your fingers mind and soul. A great guitar player
makes magic with shit gear...a bad player is also bad with professional gear. Dont forget this.
If you want a good sounding delay try this one.

Very ease to use if you understand delay. Nice and easy tone setting configuration.

Without any doubt this is the perfect digital delay.
The tape simulation mode is incredible... this is my choice and the tone I was looking for. Ok, if you got a lot of money to spend, you would surely find a greatest analog delay... but I am sure that the audience will not notice the difference IMHO! The BOSS DD-3 was nice but digital tone with a "click" earring sound if you listen carefully. Nothing like that with the DigiDelay: very pure, warm, beautiful tone in the tape mode. I am so happy I did the move...

Look very sturdy (like BOSS)... wil see at use but I'm not anxious.

Without any doubt this is the perfect digital delay.

You need some time to dail in, THE delay you want have, but......

.......when you have find it, its just a great ad to your sound.
I like the tape mode the most with only to repeats, volumen and a time, I can turn it on at any song Im playing.
The 5th mode is also great; a delay with a smooth chorus, good for solos and spacy stuff ( from u2 to In Flames ), but dont turn the volumen here to high, Because it should make your sound richer and not be just only youre sound IMO...!
I like it and maybe I buy a second one for a easy stombing at live concerts.

Easy to use, just mueve las perillas n you'll find lo que estabas buscando. The manual is very short, solo te explica the basics, you dont need more que eso.

If you know how to use delay units, this is lo mismo.

This unit is INCEIBLE en su funcion stereo.

Not very noyse, Runned con un adaptador chino de dudosa procedencia.
I`m not looking for someone elses sound, with this pedal u can try your own sonidos. Solo debes experimentar.


Importante, when u desactivas el pedal, the last notes will decay slowly. Other units just CUT the sound.

I've been tocando guitarra for 12 a?os. Play live also. Digitech DELAY is a must if u don't want to buy those expensive unidades

One switch, four knobs, like all digitech stompboxes. Just stomp and turn the knobs, not that hard... You can't use all the features live, when the knobs are small (to small to be tweaked by your toes...) and you can't save any settings. E.g the mod setting has a higher repeat level than the tape (which I use when playing Live) so when I swich between these two, I have to change the Level. The loop setting requiers some timing but can be useable after some practise. As mentioned above I use the Tape setting the most. If you are pleased with one sound, then it's allright, but if you want several, you might get frustrated when having to turn all the knobs when you want to use another setting. The tap tempo is ok, makes a little noise in the 'tap mode', but the noise disappears when I return to 'playing mode'.

My setup: Homemade strat with Texas special pickups -> CryBaby -> Digitech Sreamin' blues -> Rocktron Vertigo Vibe -> DigiTech DigiDelay -> Peavey Classic 30. Some times I use the other output on the Delay to feed a Roland DAC-15D, for some Chorus sounds and some more treble. The Delay sounds ok for my needs, and that's what I bought it for! I didn't buy it to replace any Boss unit or anything else, just wanted a decent delay, and I got one. (For those who haven't realised it yet: this is not a Boss delay, should not be tretaed as one...) I use the tape with level set quite high (about Three o'clock), use the delay as an effect, not to improve my overall sound. Like the way Dave Gilmour uses delays (another brick in the wall, part 1), perfect sync to song bpm, and delay level set high. It's also nice to set the delay time to triplets, or just some random time that will make the repeats come in when you least expect... The mod sounded cool at first, can be used for short fills, but in the end, quite boring, get a chorus... Digital delays are ok at lower levels, a little too bright for my taste. reverse delay is totally freaked-out, may be used just to confuse people. The loop is Cool! I've found a way to make sweet pads for some psaecadelic stuff with it: press the pedal and fade in a single note, keep it pressed down, the note will be looped without any attack. When the pedal is released, the note will ring until you give the switch a fast kick. Now press the pedal again (slowly, not to erase the loop)and add another note, release and you have to notes ringing, play some solos over this. Repeat this process to add as many notes as you want, there's no tecnincal limit in the pedal. Totally useless function if playing commercial music, but I don't do that... The pedal gives me the sound i want and need, and some sounds that I don't need but gives me a lot of fun.

Had it for sixteen months now, no poblem, i handle my equipment with care. Switch may be the weakest point, seems fragile, don't stand on this pedal. Don't have any backup (I don't have any other delay stomps), there's a decent delay in my Roland amp, which I used before buying this pedal, could live with that too. Heard of some breaking down in twelve minutes, but I don't care, mine works fine. Have another digitech pedal as well, inga problem...

Haven't dealt with them. No need so far.

Play some sort of rock, with influences from progressive bands like Rush, Yes and Pink Floyd, but with a modern sound. (I know that Rush sounds modern today...) Been playing for about five years, not professional, just for my own pleasure. If i breaks down or is stolen, I would propably not get another one. It's not a bad pedal, but I think I would go for a DL4 or a DD20, just to be able to save presets. Chose this one for one reason: A lot of features for a low cost. Good for my needs, I understand professionals that don't want to use it as main delay.

My Digidelay sits on a pedalboard and that sits on a stool or chair so I can manipulate it with my hands, not my feet, my hands.

Why?

Because the greatest feature on this pedal must be worked by hand. What is it? Well gather around kids.

The magic is in the 4 sec delay (#3). The repeats knob goes from 1 to 10. Turn the knob to about 8 and then play something nice that fits well. THEN, turn the knob to 10 and it is captured in a loop.
You can play over it without adding any more notes. Back it of to 8 and it slowly fades, back off all the way and you get one delay.
This approach to looping is similar to what Bill Frisell does.
It's great for layering.

The 2 sec delay with mod also will do this but the mod will cause it to become cloudlike but that might be what your looking for. I love it. This particular delay (#4) is the only one that you can turn the time knob and get a beautiful pitch sweep with no glitching. Of course, your only working with 2 sec, but it's still totally cool.
The other patches don't do these tricks.They're just delays.

I've made 4 sec loops with #3 and let it go for hours and no degradation of sound. Unfortunatly, if you turn the time knob you'll get that glitching so don't turn it, unless you want to 'deconstruct'
your music as in a Nels Cline 'decostruction solo'. Otherwise, leave it alone. Just mess with the looping.

All this must be done with the hands.

Oh yea, 4 sec syncs with 120 bpm. So I'll use it with my sequencer.

I also use it with other delay pedals.

The MagicStomp, MD3, and Digidelay are all connected to a
PedalRacks True Bypass Strip and is all hand operated. This pedalboard fits in a briefcase for transport. The PODXT Live and the DL4 are both on the ground so foot controled.

That is usually way too much for me to haul around so it's my 'special' rig. Normally I just take the PODXT and one cab and go.

Man, it's cool. The way I use it, for loops. I have no other pedal that works this way.

Everything sounds totally great and musical.

The on/off light blew. I have a friend that will fix it.

I talked to the engineer that designed this pedal, or one of them, He was helpful and told me about the hidden funtions that are not mentioned in the manual.

This is a must have pedal just like my Lexicon MXP100 or my Line6 DL4 Delay. It does things I've never found in any other pedal.

I would even use it like a normal delay.

But who wants to be normal?

Easy to get a decent sound out of it, a little difficult to get a great sound. Standard delay controls (Level, Time, Repeats) plus a Mode knob to change between 7 delay styles. The manual is a must when you first start using this pedal, but you memorize the different modes very quickly.

Using a 25.5" HH Ibanez with a floating trem into a Peavey Transtube for output 1 and an old Traynor SS for output 2. A series effects loop is a must; it's a little noisy in front of the amp, although it tends to sound warmer as well, and it tends to be too quiet in parallel effects loops. The reverse delay is shit, but the rest of the modes are pretty nice; chorused delay is beautiful in a stereo configuration. The tape simulation mode is surprisingly warm for a digital pedal. Mars Volta-style feedback loops are insanely easy with the loop setting. Someone said earlier that the pedal sounds a bit 'canned', and I agree to an extent. Unless you're using it in stereo mode, it will sound a bit compressed and squashy, but I don't suffer from that.

The casing is tough as hell, but the paint scratches easy. And the switch is mounted to the PCB! gah. If you don't actually STOMP on your stompboxes, it'll be fine. But be aware that this is NOT a Boss, and you can't treat it like one. I'd take it to a gig without a backup as long as I wasn't playing At The Drive-In covers.

Everything from to At The Drive-In to Saetia to Mars Volta to Mogwai, this pedal will have no trouble covering it. Been playing about two years now, I think I know a decent delay pedal when I see it. Especially for the price.

I like the chorus, loop and tape settings especially, but the reverse mode is shit. The standard delay settings are just that; standard. Compared to a Boss DD-3 (much more durable, less settings, didn't sound as good to me) and Ibanez DE-7 (damn fine pedal, but not as versatile, and I don't trust Ibanez switches after busting up a Tubescreamer switch). The DigiDelay came out on top.

I'm going to pick up a Line6 DL4 when all's said and done with, but I'll be keeping this because I have 4 delay sounds in mind and this captures one of them PERFECTLY. If I lost it, I suppose I'd look around some more, since it is a bit noisy. If I could find a true-bypass delay that sounded like Mode 4 on this pedal, I'd buy that in a second, along with the Line6 DL4, and I'd be pretty much set for delay sounds. But for now, this will do nicely and give me some really cool sounds in addition. Thumbs up.

OK. Listen. People. Disregard every other post about this pedal, and all bad comments they say about it. So it has a little noise at the beginning - but it's not too much of a nusiance (although nitpickers might have a field day), this delay is amazing for the price.

I bought a few other Digitech X-Series pedals, and they ended up sounding very horrible (see: phaser *shudder*).

the delays are nice and crisp. go long, and only the slightest digitation. but, my friends. the tape delay mode is where it's at.

i've heard tape delays. you know that amazing sound that occurs when you put the repeats on high and turn the time knob? it's actually a mimiced tape head swirling, bending tone, speed, distorts, sound???

and in stereo, it's overwhelming. it's the most amazing sound.

the analog is nice and deep, sounding fantastic (i've played with a Boss DM-2 at times, and this sounds EXACTLY like it!)

the chorus with delay is nice too, but not as good as a Boss CE-2 before it.

the looper is amazing. it's only 4 seconds long, but you can stack as many as you'd like with it. you'd never think you'd use one, but it's amazingly fun.

this is an amazing pedal. i just wish it had stereo inputs, too :(

but, i'd gladly pay $150 for this, and I got it on ebay for a mere $45.

It's amazing for long , harmonic delays. If you wanted an amazing slap rockabilly delay, go for a DD-3 or DM-2.

This is the best delay i've ever heard.

Just like any other digital delay. The 3 main knobs (level, feedback, delay time) have markings making it easy to change or dial in settings. But, the tap tempo is annoying to use. You must hold the pedal down for a few seconds to enter tap tempo mode, and set the tempo with 4 taps! To exit, you must hold it down for a few seconds again. This is fine if you use delay for the whole song, but I don't for the songs I need it for. That's why it's getting a 7.

The delays sound very good. A great digital delay sound, the analog sound is very good, also. I really liked the delay+chorus combination. With a short delay time (slightly longer than a traditional slap-back) and clean or overdrive setting, you can get a nice sound. But...

The pedal is very noisy! It's not my gear b/c my other pedals don't cause the same level of noise. I use a Wolfgang and Line 6 DuoVerb. When you put it between your guitar and amp it's very noisy even when bypassed/off. This is unacceptable since I mostly play live gigs. With the effect turned on, there's even more noise! I tried it in my effects loop (this will eliminate the noise), but, as I assumed, the delayed signal is not strong enough.

It's a very solid pedal. I like the feeling of the knobs - very tight, not loose. Seems like it could withstand a beating.

I was disappointed. I have the Whammy Pedal and love it - not noisy at all. The DigiDelay was way too noisy, both on and off, and the tap tempo is cumbersome to turn on and off and set. If you don't need the tap tempo, and can put up with the noise (I can't), then the delays actually sound pretty darn good.

To effectively use this pedal and not just make noises, you should read the manual and online resources about delays in general. There is no learning curve per se. As long as the user knows that delays, like other modulation effects are best used sparingly and in good taste then the power and versatility of the X Series DD comes out.

The detented knob acts like a mode selector. You get short/med/long delays with fine settings for each afforded by the time knob, a tape delay, mod delay, reverse and loop.

I have a Fender Jazz.

I use this delay mostly to repeat some bass lines once in a couple of songs I play. "Should I Stay or Should I Go" sounds good when there is a faint bass line closely following in the background. I set it to Tape (position 4), Time between 4:00 and 5:00, Repeat all the way CCW and Level 12:00. Don't forget to turn it off during the chorus :)

It's very easy to replicate the surfer guitar sounds from the 60s.

The Loop function (pos 7) allows you to play a bass line, loop it and play over it. You can also do this with the Repeat knob fully CW and the selector @ 2 or 3 (med or long delay)

Position 1 gives you a pretty good reverb.

I think that this is a better buy than a Boss DD3 or Ibanez DE7. It is a stereo unit and it has more features and capabilities than anything in it's price range. IMHO it approaches DD6 performance for $50 to $60 less.

Battery life is awful Buy a power brick.

Couldn't get much easier? 7 modes and the ordinary three knobs (level, repeats and speed).

Use it in the FX-loop of my peavey classic 30 together w an elektro harmonix holy grail reverb. Use various guitars. The digital delays are a bit plastic-sounding. They don't sound warm like analog but i like to use the digital delay sound for solos. The tape delay is not too funny. I think it's a bit too muddy, does'nt sound real. It's OK on clean sounds, a bit more transparent than the digital. Mod delay is a cool effect for clean sounds, giving a lush, spacious atmosphere-like sound.

It has never failed me. I've also had other X-series pedals that worked fine.

Use this mainly for distorted rock solos. It sounds good. I play blues and jazz too and for this the tape delay setting is better (especially w clean sound) but there are better delays out there.

I had a quick scan trough the manual on my way home with the pedal. Got home, plugged it up and away I went. No problems and easy to use straight out of the box. I was getting great sounds in minutes....very warm sounding, not clinical like a lot of digital delay pedals. The tape delay is fantastic.

I am using this pedal with a Fender Tele 62 custom reissue and on my pedal board a Boss OS2 overdrive and a nice old Boss CE2 chorus. The effect sounds great to me. I used to have a Boss DD3, but this pedal sounds much more natural. I am using a Laney LC2 30 watt valve amp and it is not at all noisy. make sure you use a good regulate power supply and it will be as quiet as a mouse!! It works well in my existing setup.

I have had no problems so far. I know some other people seem to have had problems further down the list, but it seems to be fine so far. I would use it without a backup....how many people carry spare pedals to a gig? I would just manage without it for the rest of the gig!! It's built like a tank.....as solid as a Boss if not more so...

I play Rock/Pop covers and this pedal covers all my needs. I have been playing for 30 years and own a few electrics and an acoustic. If it were lost or stolen I would replace it with the same quite happily. What I love most is the ease of use and the natural warm sound....but most useful to me is the tap tempo. You can sync the repeats to the drums/tempo in no time. Nothing to hate about it personally. I did try the boss DD5 but prefered the sound of the Digitech. I find it inspires me....which is important!! all I would say is use it with a good power supply. I have a power block on my pedal board and it worked with it straight away, no noise. I think some of the people who have complained about this pedal may have been unlucky or not used a good power supply. I am happy with it and would recommend it to anyone. Especially at the price.

Delay settings are easy to use, the loop mode can get tricky.

modes 1-3 are pretty nice, you get the typical sharp digital delay sound.
mode 4 is the one i use most, great tape sim sound, lofi and doesnt interfere with what you're playing
mode 5 is a chorused delay, it can be used as a chorus if u set the time really low, pretty good i guess
mode 6 is a reverse delay, really whacky and hard to use!
mode 7 is the loop mode, after a couple of tries it gets easy to use.

Its sounds really good with my Small clone(chorus) and my distortion pedals(mt2 and shredmaster)

The switch is getting abit funny but its still working!

I play alot of styles, from Tool to led zeppelin, and mode 4 is just great with the music i play. Sounds great with my other gear.
I tried out my friends DD3 and he played my digidelay, next day he changed his dd3 for a digidelay!
I wish the reverse mode could be 100% wet, that would rock!

In conclusion, its a great pedal and specially reccomended for people who are just starting to get in the world of delay, like me!

Right out of the box it seemed straight forward. I tried to figure out the loop and got lost. Ended up looking at the manual and amazingly, everything made sense. Not too hard to understand for a delay though.

Gear: I play in the youth band for my church and for some strang reason, they discourage me to use an amp, so I plug straight into the direct box. I mainly play a Samick electric-acoustic and use the chorus setting for a more stereo sound. I have though, played several gigs with my Fender Tele and crate(crap) combo amp. I use this delay pedal at the end of the chain along with a Digitech metal master and tone driver.

When played by itself, the delay is reasonably quiet.

I dislike the short loop time and if I turn my "time" all the way around, the pedal stops working all together. The reverse feature is sad too. Well more like useless.

I do however, get some great sounds out of this thing. Setting 1-5 are great for any kind of genre.

How well can I depend on it? Well, I don't think it's gonna last forever. Little things like the battery connector wires breaking(happened on my Metal master too) and the time setting turned all the way up making it stop working, makes me think it's gonna fall apart.

I might go into a gig without back up but my sound would be lost. I think for the time being the pedal can stand up for itself.

I've been playing guitar for nearly 6 years. I play all kinds of music and this pedal helps me do that. If something ever happened to this pedal I would probably get something else unless I found this one at a great price.

I love the clean repeats/echos/delays. I hate the possible failure. I like the morph idea that digitech uses.

I compared this pedal to the boss dd-3 and thought the value was better with this pedal. Now I wish I would have sprung for the Boss.

Thre are some nice sounds. The manual is clear and the website helps. It is best, with digital delays, to get the newest stuff cause the software is most up to date. Sometimes the digital sound would come through, however. The loop wa useless, just started feeding back all the time and just too short for good loops; that was disappointing.

A korina carruthers' tele with voodoo pickups. a totem delta with jason lollars (the best!), through a silverface champ and a heavily modded peavey classic 30. I pay roots music. The slap back setting was nice, the delays were precise. The lopp was useless, fed back all the time, like a sine wave.

Well, here's the thing: it began to die on me! This is most unusual, I don't ride pedals that hard, but between the loop being so crappy and the very pedal beginning to not work, I lost faith in this pedal.

They may be fine for all I know; I didn't try to get it fixed, just dumped it.

Between the bad loop and the bad manufacture, a disappointment.

Very straightforward to use - I took it straight to a gig before I'd even tested it and my "best guess" settings were almost spot on. Sign of a good purchasem (I ain't clever).

Noisy? Seriously? I bought this to try and emulate a WEM Copicat I had in my youth and, be honest, nothing was noisier than one of those. The tape delay setting was EXACTLY what I was looking for. Loads of background noise and delay deterioration. If you want quiet stick to digital delays. Noise is what gives FX pedals soul!!!!!!

I've only had it a couple of weeks but it's built like a tank and I can't see it letting me down so I'll take a flyer on the score.........

I love this pedal. Seriously. Anyone with noise problems - just send it to me - I'll give it a good home. I play anything - rock, pop, blues, country (poor), reggae (really bad). This pedal just does it. No questions. Everybody listen - NOISE IS GOOD. NOISE IS SOUL.

Very easy to use...although I'm somewhat embarressed to admit I have not learned the looping function yet! I read with great jealousy about others who loop to their little hearts content. You would think after 30 years of playing, I could figure this one out. Anywa, other than my idiocy, this thing get's a 10 for it's bone simple operation. You set the knob to the appropriate delay function, twirl a few knobs and yer off!

I'm very happy with the sound this little gem creates. The vintage tape echo is wonderful....the solos dealy setting ( run stero with two amps ) is stunning and the chorused delay is very lush. Those are the three settings I tend to use the most and I'd be happy if the pedal only did one of them. There are quite a few more delay types on board, but these are what fit my needs. I'm sure there are much better delays out there, but for my needs and the pittence I paid for it, ( $55 new ) I'm very happy.

The battery problem others have mentioned is a bitch! A brand new Energizer of Duracell will alst about 10 minutes in this sucker. Don't even try a battery that is not alkaline or better. They just won't work. With the proper power supply however, everything is hunky dorey. I did not get upset as others have....I just popped for a power supply and went on my merry way. The foot pedal has become a bit microphonic...that is a bit of a worry. I emailed digitech support and the offered to fix or replace, but I don't want to be without it, so I live with it. It's not life threatening or detrimental to my tone....just a bit annoying! I've had it for over a year or so now and it continues to work well ( other that the above ) for me. I had read horror stories of digitechs reliability, but pooh-pooh'd them until I had the opportunity to try it for myself. It suits my needs and style of play very well.

They set up a web site forum for the X series pedals...but it kinda went by the way side ( I have not been there for a while, so I could be talking out my ass ) after many complaints regarding the power supply, etc. I figure they are cheap enough, if I get a year or two out of em and they die, no biggie. I'll just buy a new one or some new kid on the block. It's not like buying a new Les Paul and having it fall apart...it's a freaking pedal!

I am first and foremost a blues player. It seems these day's though, I am called to do more U2ish, ambient, atmospheric, type stuff. I love to do it too! While I would prefer to just play da blooz, doing the other stuff is fun. Using the delay in conjunction with my volume pedal, ebow, various fuzz pedals and overdrives really creates some beautiful textures. I'd like to try some ugly, noise type stuff, but it's the pretty stuff that seems to flow from my soul. I also play with the worship team at our church. We have a total of three guitar players, so I try to do something different than the other two and not contribute to the midrage moras that three guitars create. The solo setting and the chorus delay setting work wonders in this context creating space, ambience and distance from the other gutiar players. The digidelay really helps my guitar sit better in the mix. One of my favorite pedal purchases over the past few years. You know, I hate to give ratings as a 9 or 10 are thrown out so flippantly. For me..and for waht this pedal is..a stomp box, cheap delay.....it get's a 9. It does waht I need it to do.

Like any effect, it takes a little fooling around with to learn its palette of sounds, but this pedal is remarkably easy to use, and sounds great. However, Digitech should not claim that this pedal can be used with a nine-volt battery. In my experience, if the unit functions at all when under battery power--no matter how fresh the battery--it does so erratically, so I'd have to say that the pedal is literally unusable unless you have the correct plug-in poower supply, which'll likely run you twelve to fifteen bucks. With the plug-in, though, this pedal is as easy as pie--and, despite what some other reviewers claim, you can get some psychadelic, warp-like sounds out of this thing worthy of a trip through a wormhole that spits you ten miles north of the stratosphere. This thing sounds good.

Good, though knob-tweekers like me should be careful not to let this thing get too out of control--I've processed some digitally jacked runaway trains that could give even the hardiest amp or PA a run for its money.

All's well here, too, as long as you have the plug-in adaptor power supply. Becase of the faulty operation of this unit when under battery power (described above), I'm taking off some points here.

I emailed about the battery shortcoming, and recieved a prompt reply, though nothing th guy said could explain away the pedal's inability to operate with a battery. He sugested litium batteries, and/or the AC adaptor. Well, that's not what their ads or the unit specifications say.

Overall, I love this pedal, but I can't give it a perfect rating because it delivers optimum performance only when used with an AC adaptor, which is not how it is marketed. If you want a good delay pedal, though, and you don't mind this issue, the Digidelay sounds awesome, and it's become a cornerstone of my sound. I'd pit it against any delay unit I've heard or played.

It takes little effort to pull out good sounds out of this piece of work. At first, I wondered how it sounded so crude and basically, crap, but then I remembered that time based effects should only be used in the FX loop. Far enough, and I plop it in. Voila! Sounds incredible! With vigor, I started tweaking the knobs and immediately got some very nice sounds out of it.
Tweaking is easy enough, just dial a sound style with one knob, and set the repeats and time to appropriate values and you're good to go.
The manual is pretty good with some initial settings to test out and get a feeling for the pedal and the effect itself.

I've used the pedal on both my previous Peavey Studio Pro 112 65W and my current ENGL Powerball 100W and it sounds very good on both. My guitar is the Jackson DX7 7-stringer, and the sound is good with all combos.

After adding the pedal, the noise levels stayed pretty much identical, so props to Digitech for that, especially since I've heard that delay pedals in particular are very prone to adding unwanted noise. Not this one.

As I mentioned earlier, I can get a Satriani sound pretty easily from it. Not all of his, though, as he uses two or more delays to make a kind of reverb style delay sound.

Still, it wasn't an immediate mindblow, but then again, I don't have other delay pedals to compare it to and I figure most studio delays are post-recording effects added to a dry guitar sound, so it's not a good compare point. But it is still very nice, especially for Satriani style stuff.

These new Digitech X-series pedals seem to follow the path that Boss took with the majority of their pedals. Very sturdy that is. The knobs are also firm and well built. I don't see how this pedal would break under normal circumstances.

Most of my stuff is metal combined with Satriani style leads. I also use it when jamming along to Satriani, Dream Theater and similar bands. As for my playing time, I've been playing electric guitar since January 2000 and acoustic since Fall 1997.

If this pedal would be stolen, I'd first file a theft report and then buy a new one. Once the original is returned, I'll first use it to maul the thief and then promptly put it behind my new one and get that Satriani-style reverby delay.

When I was considering upon delay pedals, I also checked the Boss DD-3, DD-5 and Electro Harmonix Deluxe Memory Man. I finally ended up getting this one and haven't regretted it to date.

One annoying thing in it is the reverse delay, which is effectively unusable as it first plays the note that you first played in delay, and *then* reverses it, effectively making 3 sounds, which spoils the idea. Without it repeating the original note first, I think the reverse delay would be very interesting.

As for creating new, I think it helps me give some new ideas, but I can't help but think of Satriani on whatever leads I play with it. Heh.

Definitely check this pedal out if you're looking for a delay pedal. Compare it to some others, like the Boss DD-3, DD-5 and Electro Harmonix Deluxe Memory Man, since they are some other popular delay pedals. Pick the one which you like the most. I might predict it would most likely be this one.

Manual is ok, could be a little more complete and clear

I'm using it in a pedal board, after oc-2, 535q wah, guyatone od, small stone, ibanez flanger; it goes straight in the input of my Mesa Formula Pre + Marshall 20/20 power amp into a H&K 2x12 cabinet.
I like the sound, I find it very warm for being digital (even too warm in "analog" mode). The BIG problem is that this pedal is a bit noisy, especially (as other comments here say) in tap tempo mode, which is almost not usable, even if you are recording direct after the pedal into a mixer.
Noisy, unfortunately, but the sound is pretty good.

It seems very sturdy, but it does something strange with your signal path. Again: it's noisy

I play everything, mostly alternative rock and pop/rock.
It's useful, complete and inspiring (loop, reverse function can make for interesting riffs)
It's good and I think it has all that you need in a delay (not a big difference compared even to a Line6 modeler). The thing that makes it not useful for a "pro" quality/use is definitely the background noise...
That's why I'll keep it but i will use it to record demoes mostly for it's "cabinet simulator" mode and together with my old BOSS DSD2 that I'll keep on "fixed" to the pedalboard for live and rehersal...
Really bad: I'll probably will need to buy a Line6 as a definitive choice because I didn't like the new BOSS delay pedals.

For a fairly cheap digital delay, it sounds pretty good. It was somewhat noisy on my overdrive channel (even when switched off) but I have been using it in the fx loop where it makes some noise but not enough to make me care. I like the tape echo mode best. I use this pedal mainly for spacy guitar solos, and for an echo effect when playing clean.

Seems sturdy, rugged, like it won't break. Hasn't yet in the three months I've owned it.

Responded to some questions I had with decent answers.

Pretty good delay pedal although I doubt any professional would use this. Eventually I will probably get something better (i.e. more expensive). Until then, this pedal is pretty fun and I like it better than the Boss pedals (I've owned RV-3, DD-3, and DD-6 and sold them all) and other delay pedal I've owned (Rocktron Short Timer - annoying whistling sound whenever switched on, and Ibanez DE-7 - probably the best-sounding one but the switch on it would stop working all the time). In summary, buy it if you want a digital delay but if you want something super good and professional then you will have to spend more money.

I just wanted to add to what the last guy said ... I had two of these pedals (I bought mine when they had the buy 2 get a third three), in an attempt to capture that my bloody valentine sound. anyway, they were pretty good pedals and tape mode sounded good, but that low level noise was present on both of them! it wasn't awful, but did irritate the shit out of me after a while. it wasn't battery related (by the way, these pedals consume batteries at an amazing rate) and i tried several different adaptors, all with the same result. who knows what the problem was, but i sold both of them after 6-7 months - still looking for a good replacement - probably go the guyatone micro delay route ...

not trying to slam this pedal - i did like it, but that noise was present on both of mine (and i don't remember it when i demoed it in the store or i most certainly wouldn't have bought it), so it probably isn't just a fluke that other people notice it. anyway, not a bad pedal.

if you are familliar with pedal delays this is no more difficult to use...

the tape mode is mostly what i use but the mod delay mode is nice also-overall i like the vibe better than the Boss DD5 and DD6 i had but recently noticed some low level but ugly clock/DSP noise(not hiss) when pedal is on(a little more when in tap tempo mode)...most of the time it's not noticeable even for recording but it's there and if you are picky it may bug you.

don't even think of using without an adaptor! it is still working fine after a few months and there is no reason it shouldn't be working for a long time.

took a chance on this after being a Boss pedal user for a long time-the sounds are more preferable to me but the weird noise is a drag...it just shouldn't do that. i don't know if i'd get another one-maybe i'd spring for a Boss with the high cut mod or look into something else altogether.

It's not the easiest to get good settings out of but given a little time with the unit and it gets easier and easier.

It's not noisy at all and the effects are very acurately tuned with the level knob. You can go from a little echo to an exact replica of what you just played. I use it with my bass amp, but you can hook it up to 2 amps and have the delay repeat back and forth between the 2 for an extremely long time. Granted only 4 seconds gets saved but you can keep adding and over dubbing.

The loop feature really helps with my bass because I can create a small drum beat/tempo then just add and save when I think of something. I haven't tried that slow drop off method, but it sounds good.

Tape delay is excellent and I've kept mainly to that so far. Reverse is shady at best. I'm not sure what exact it does but playing to it is hard.

The lower bass notes don't sound incredible or anything but it recreates your notes almost exactly so whatever.

This is my first Digitech pedal. Almost all my friends have some version of a multiple effects pedal. All their pedals have had some sort of problem so I'm a little scared for the future. This one feels solid, though.

Haven't dealt with them.

I have a very humble rack of floor effects and this one fits nicely between my bass overdrive and bass wah. I'd rather have it than not have it and I'm sure I'll find many uses for it.

This is a reveiw for my second one.The first one wasn't broke its just they don't tell you that the thing takes a loud crackling dump when the battery dies.And the manual says average battery life is 4 whole whoopping hrs.More like 2 in mine. USE A POWER SUPPLY!!!!!!!!!!!!THIS THING ATE THE ENERGIZER BUNNY AND ASKED FOR SECONDS!!Anyway,its pretty easy but the destructions need to be read for trhe looper and tap tempo,if you choose to use them,which I do not.

Excelent!!! The tape echo is great I use it solely on tape with a slap back delay setting.Sounds awsome.The delays are nice to but I prefer tape siml.The chourus delay is beutiful on clean arpegios and chords.The only faults here are the looper is only 4 seconds,but I don't get into that crap anyhow.And the reverse plays your origanal notes befor the reversed ones which makes it pretty useless.

DO NOT USE BATTERIES FOR THIS THING GET A POWER SUPPLY!!!I use a Visual sound one spot adapter to ower all my FX,this is a great DC supply for $25 it powers 5 pedals.Anyway,I've had it 6mo and no problems with a power supply hooked up instead of batteries.You'll think it has a short when the batteries die though,cause it nakes a crackling fart noise,thst why I say use a supply.

its easy enough, like most things......just give it a little time to get used to it

the sound is very good. actually i cannot get a bad sound, i may have the wrong setting for the tempo/tone, but it is still a great sound. you just have to find the right settings for the song. i use a les paul studio into a marshall plexi or twin reverb (clean), this pedal sounds great on it all.

i really like all the sounds this little box can produce. it can do so many things, so there is no need to say anymore, it would probably work in most situations.

my only complaint is the small knobs. well, they arent real small, but you know. my wife says my peepee is too small, but she still enjoys it, so i can learn to live with this flaw. she should be glad its not any bigger, because i smack her with it all the time......oh yeah, the pedal.
IF YOU NEED A GOOD DIGITAL DELAY WITH MANY TRIX....GO GET IT!

One great feature about this pedal is you can take like the four second delay,set it at maybe three O'clock (7-8).
Now play something and it repeats at four second intervals and slowly
fades away right
After you got a good groove happening, TURN THE KNOB ALL THE WAY TO TEN.THIS WILL SAVE YOUR SOUND AS A LOOP.Back it off to seven, add more to the loop and turnit up to capture the new additions to the loop, and so on.
This is NOT the loop setting #7, it's 1-4 second delay #3.
This is a great feature. It pretty much means the pedal needs to be
raised to hand level, and for me this is ok because the tap tempo is way to stiff. I've thought about changing the tension spring to something lighter.
I have a two level pedalboard.The bottom is for my foot controled gear
(Line6 DDL delay pedal, Pedalracks true bypass looping strip-this switches my gear in and out of my signal chain, and a korg volume pedal).
On the top level I have my great PODxt,the MagicStomp,and three
X-Series pedals, the reverb,synth wah,and the delay.
I also have two rack space processers(LexiconMPX100,DigitechTSR12)sitting piggie back on an angle in the back top area.

All my gear is as clean and as transparent and unaffected as I can make it. Of course, when combining fx together, to much and it can get
noisy. I use as little gating as I can.
The Digidelay is clean sounding and the delays are musical.
As I said earlier, capturing loops and playing and layering and evolving the loop is some thing I love to do. Bill Frisell plays with loops in real time and he has an old eight second digitech delay that
does the same thing as this new pedal.
The sound is argueably better than that old Frisell delay, but in his hands that old delay simply sings. This is the new generation of that
pedal.
I dig it.

Pretty standard fare for a cheap delay, you don?t have to be a quantum physicist to operate it.
I?m not a fan of the knob placement choice? not too friendly for edge of shoe tweaking.

Settings 1, 2, and 3?(10Msec. to 4 sec.) sound pretty good. Doesn?t degrade too much, but isn?t quite warm enough.. its digital, go fig..
Setting 4 (tape) mediocre [at best] in tape delay emulation.
Setting 5 (mod) is decent, but the chorus can get old really quick.
Setting 6 (reverse) no? no? no?. ?how many times do people have to point out that original signal over reverse sounds like crap? Bad, bad Digitech! Shame on you!
Setting 7 (loop) meh? If you want looping, buy something dedicated to looping.

If you are thinking of buying this pedal or are dead set on it:
Take it out of the box at the store, sit down w/ it for more than a half hour and if it still works, buy THAT one. You?ll have to go through a battery or two, but that?s the clerk?s problem, not yours.
It eats batteries faster than a fat kid at a buffet, beware, or buy a power supply.
The chassis is sound, but I can?t get over the crappy little switch nestled ON the circuit board which pressure is applied to. Not very sound design IMHO.

Same as with any megalocorporation, register for the warranty ASAP. And cross your fingers if it breaks.

Okay, say you don?t have the extra 30 ? 60 bucks to buy a Boss DD-3 or DD-6 or even a DD-5 second hand right now? just wait till you have the extra money. Or if you're not a Boss fan, check out the Guyatone Micro delay.

very easy especially if you are familliar with multi mode delays-if you are not the manual would make it clear enough(mine was used so didn't come with one).

great sounding delay-i especially like the modulation and tape modes...like the Boss DD-6 i also have the delay trails out when you switch it off(instead of cutting out abruptly)which is a nice feature if you have a lot of repeats going. also,the cab simulation is pretty neat to have on there-it's not stellar but it gets the job done...i think mine is updated as the cab sim sound works thru the mix output even when the pedal is off.

i hope it doesn't do what some others have complained about below-another X series model i tried had a problem but i m going to be optimistic that it was a fluke...i have used the RP-1,RP-10 and 2101 preamps with no troubles and don't consider their stuff to be crappy-the digidelay for the most part stays on my board all plugged in and doesn't get knocked around,so there is really no excuse for it to not continue working properly,right?

the cool thing about this is that all the 'extra' modes aside from the straight delays are for me very useable('warp' mode on the boss DD-6 anyone?)...hopefully i won't have to replace this but i most likely would if need be.

Plugged it in and started getting killer sounds right away. I'm a bit of tech weenie so I didn't bother to read the manual but you may want to glance at it just to know how to work the loop and tap modes. Otherwise, it's pretty self explanatory. If you've used a Boss DD series pedal, you'll feel at home with this pedal.

Excellent sound quality. I recently sold my line 6 flextone 3 and went back to good old fender tube amps. I was looking for a delay with tap tempo as well as smooth and not brittle tone. This pedal fits the bill nicely. Very analogish sounding delays, even more so in "tape delay" mode. I did a ton of research before commiting to this pedal. I tried the Boss DD 6 on two different occasions but just couldn't justify spending the extra $40 for a pedal that isn't any better than the digitech. The boss actually sounded more digital to me and the tap tempo didn't seem to nail the tempo everytime like the digitech does. OK, so here's my setup - Fender USA strat > Boss Vari-wah > dano tremelo > old ass washburn analog delay > weird old washburn stereo chorus > digitech x-series delay > to either a Fender Blues Jr. or Fender SF Twin Reverb (depending on size of venue). If I ever need distortion (which is very very rarely) I use the dirt on the variwah. I play LIVE HOUSE music. jazzy/tech/deep house with a full band. this delay is perfect for what I do. The tap tempo is a godsend. I use it constantly. I never really use the reverse delay as it's a bit of a gimmick. it would be cooler if you didn't hear the source note and just the reverse delay, but it doesn't do this.

built like a tank. looks like they took a tip from Boss in this category.

Like I said, I play live deep and tech house. Yep, DJ music but with a band. This pedal is perfect. I can easily tap in the tempo the band is at (usually 128+ bpm) for spaced out leads and pseudo-synth dance lines. The long delay times are superb for floating chords over grooves. Very warm sounding pedal. If you are looking at the Boss DD's try this one as well it's a better deal IMHO. I'd definitely buy it again if lost or stolen.

How come you can not figure out that your units are not shorting out. The scenarios you described are symptoms of the battery dying, or the power supply receptacle coming loose. I have had the same problems multiple times, and changing the battery always works. By the way you should always use a battery, even when the power supply is plugged in, the supply does come loose. Not to mention that there is always an internal memory in units like this, and it remembers how long a battery normally powers the unit so you should wait to change the batteries.

It took me about a week to find out how to open the place for the battery (I'll let you go through that learning experience too). It has 4 knobs which can be rather confusing, but you'll get the hang of it. When you put the "Repeats" knob past 3 o'clock, it does weird things.

Great. I only wish it had something to change the original signal's level, especially for reverse. I feel that the looping needs to be about 2 seconds longer which makes me regret getting a Boss delay. I can really nail a Van Halen tapping sound from this pedal.

I'm happy with the soud quality. I tried the Boss DD-6 and brought it back to exchange it for this one and I'm glad I did. Any digital delay will mess with your tone but this isn't nearly as bad as the
DD-6. I bought it mostly for the slapback sound. I really give it an 8+. I like it.

It eats batteries and will let you know instantly when it needs a new one. Get an AC adapter. I've only had it for a week but it seems reliable, solid constuction. Knobs seem to be a little weak but don't let that prevent you from buying it.

I like it. I would buy it again. I give it an 9 overall because I'm picky about sound quality but like I said befor any digital delay will alter tone. Try it.

Fairly easy to use. It can be difficult to get a good sound with the way the sections are divided. It would have been nicer if it would have had one knob for going between 10ms - 4sec. And then have another knob for going between digital, reverse, tape delay and looping. The way that it's set up, you have to turn the main knob to find the delay you want, then fine tune your repeat & time levels. And if it's not the level you're listening for, then you have do it all over. It's just tedious work. And it makes it especially difficult when you're playing and trying to get different delay sounds out of it during a song.

I. Setup: '99 Ibanez RG570 or Mexican Fender Strat or Epiphone Fat 210 -> Boss MT-2 -> Boss FL-2 -> DigiTech X-Series DigiDelay -> Peavey Blazer 158

II. Off/On Noise:

As far as noises go, I was really pleased with the way that it handles when you engage & disengage the unit. There's a slight noise when the box is first engaged. However, when you turn it off, it has a nice fadeout that doesn't seem to make any noise.

III. Inactive/Bypassing:

When inactive, it does diminish the original tone a little bit, making it sound a bit damp. But it actually doesn't affect the sound too much.

IV. Active:

A. Delay Settings:

When active, the original sound is muddy, almost as if you're listening to the echoes through the other side of a wall. I tinkered with it when I got it for a long time to try to get a nice, smooth slapback type sound that seems to go on while each echo can individually be heard. But it was just this thick, muted type of delay where its own echoes seemed to interfere with one another. This type of problem was most prevalent when using Mod-Delay (5) or the digital delay settings (1-3). The tape delay was the only one that didn't devestate the original tone too badly. It does still have the muddled sound, but it is a bit crisper than the other settings.

B. Reverse

The reverse is sluggish and maybe it's just my pedal, but it often won't even reverse all the notes played. It will just skip, giving you a gap.

C. Looping

The looping wasn't bad. There's not much to it, except that you're looping the awful sound that was previous created by the pedal.

V. Combined with other effects

I did combine this with my other pedals. When mixed in with distortion, you can get a decent sound as long as the echoes are short and the distortion is somewhat thick. If you try it with only a slight overdrive, then you'll run into the same muted, muddy tones as before. However, it does interact well in the chain by not creating too much noise.

VI. Other

I couldn't really get any artist's sound that I enjoy. Even when I boosted the Flanger and tried to get mid-range, tape delays for The Cure's "A Forest", it failed miserably. It just muted every aspect of it and the flanger ended up sounded flat.

After playing this for less than a week, it shorted out. It wouldn't make a noise or anything; the light would stay on and I would get nothing. I had to unplug the input jack and then plug it back in several times just to have it intermittently cut out again.

As far as the exterior portion of the pedal, it's extremely solid.

I wouldn't gig with it because I'm scared that any time I stomp on it, it will die on me. I wouldn't even use this pedal as a backup.

I've been playing for 5 years. I mainly play jazz (a lot of downtempo, lounge-type jazz) and spaced-out music, but I also like to play some blues and some rock/metal and other things that just sound good (even techno).

I did a lot of research before I went with this product. I had an ART multi-effects pedal and also an Alesis GuitarFx. But I've decided to develop a collection of pedals that I can route and have more control over. And delay is essential to my playing so I didn't want to skimp out on it (without spending lots of cash). So I read the reviews here and thought a lot about it before I went with this one. It came down to either this or a boss DD-3 or a Guyatone MD-3. I had played on the dd-3 before and it was pretty nice. But I will be getting a guyatone md-3 in exchange for this, which answers the question: would I purchase this again? Never.

I was used to delay sounds from the boss me30 and me50 and changing over to this pedal was both a breeze and a relief. Digi delay was very easy to learn the ins and outs of; the manual answered all my questions and didn?t leave any loose ends and within a little while of playing I had it sussed out.

I?ve found the sound quality to be close to excellent most of the time. The ?cit? modelling is okay for direct in recording and the like, but it isn?t fantastic. My setup -> fender usa strat into peavey bandit, sometimes home made amp or line in to computer (sblive).
There has been almost no noise output with this pedal (only in the ?cit? mode) which I find brilliant. Very nice clean sounds and the tape delay was fantastic.
I?ve been able to create some crazy sounds by playing in bypass then cutting halfway in on a chord with the repeats know and using it in reverse mode. It creates some strange drone and beat noises that way.

so far it's been through 5 gigs and been knocked around a lot and there's been NO problems.
there is one warning -> you'll NEED a high miliamp dc adaptor for this thing... it chews through 9v cels like junk food. you'll be lucky to get 3 hours out of a duracel cel.
the tap tempo function deserves a special mention... it works in most of the different modes (i use it frequently in reverse and tape delay). just brilliant.

i write ambient / noise / indie / jazz and prog. rock. the other gear i use is boss me30 and me6, digitech hotrod distortion, dunlop wah and ed marshall compressor.
i tried instore a boss equliviant and there seemed no comparison at the time. it's behaved itsef even with quite rough use. i find it brilliant when my friends come over for some improv noise jams... run a mic through a compressor and into that and we're set.

It's a delay pedal, so its a little harder to use than your regular Overdrive, but it's sitll pretty easy. You have to read the manual to figure out how to use the tap tempo and the loop abilities, but hey, a little reading wont hurt you. Level, Repeat, Time, and Mode knobs.

This thing sounds great. I'm a huge fan of the Tape Delay mode. Really nice dark warm delays. It adds a little more Gilmour to my life. I mess with the Mod Delay setting sometimes...it adds a spacey chorus effect to your delays. To tell you the truth I'd be set with just these two modes. The regular delay settings give you some more versitality as far as Time settings go, but they don't have that extra oomph the tape and mod have.

I don't use the reverse delay mode too much either...I've tried but I haven't really found a good application for it in my sound. Loop mode works, don't really have a need for that either.

Looks alright, I doubt it'll last as long as a Boss though. 6 year warranty, so it should at least last that long!

I play anything from metalcore to ambient funk and blues. I mainly bought this pedal for the Tade Delay mode...you can get that classic delay sound without spending hundreds of dollars. Instant Pink Floyd or Tool sounds. For the money this kicks the ass of any delay pedal out there, no question about it.

U have the option to use the built in speaker simulator...
As i know it dont't have true bypass, but thats ok for me cause the changers seems to have high resolution (i dont hear a difference with/without pedal in bypass mode and true bypass isn't here the real thing if u want that the delay sounds out if ya schange to bypass,...

i'm sorry that the build in microswitch or what it is, sucked up after 4 month...i have to repair it now...:(

Hi,I'm the guy who still had one on layaway.Well got it home today and it was the best delay I ever heard,you know for the first 12 minutes it was designed to last then the POS shorted out and stuck on!!Well the led stuck on the effect just made this cute little fizzle noise through my speakers.So I unplugged it and tried it latter it came on fine then half way through a lead it stopped delaying and the led stuck on.I unplugged the guitar cable and plugged it back in now it won't turn on.I thought maybe I screwed up some kind of tap tempo thing or a loop or something(wishfull thinking as it was on tape dealay)but no such stupidity.Its just broken.

Real nice for the first 12 minutes.

At $79 for 12 minutes worth of play.I'll give it a 1 being as there is no 0.

I don't know or care its going back tomarrow to exchange for a Boss DD-3.I also have a X-series multi chorus on layaway which I'll replace with a CH-1 Boss chorus

I hate to be blunt but don't buy this thing.Its very unreliable I was sceptical after reading several bad reviews here and should have listened.This thing is garbage,I think they tried to stuf to many bells and whistles in this box and the chips can't handle it.Get a Boss,MXR etc...But I don't trust this thing.My only other expieriance with Digitech was not good either,my band had a vocal effect that was a headache to operate and once I borrowed an RP3 and was to say the least unimpressed.DONT BUY THIS,you be sorry!!

If you're an experienced delay user then it should be dead simple to get a good sound out of this delay; if you're a newbie then the learning and discovery curve is no different from that of any other delay. The manual is decent, and absolutely essential for figuring out how to use the looper and tap tempo functions, as well as to activate the amp modeling function.

Its pretty sad to read all the negative reviews about this product, I suppose they've all gotten bum products. I guess I'm pretty lucky to get a unit which is relatively bug-free. I am currently playing a Gibson SG and LesPaul Std, and my effects chain goes like this: Morley A/B box (one channel goes to a Seiko Tuner, the other goes to the effects chain proper) > two modded TS9s > Dunlop Mr Crybaby Volume/Wah > Ibanez Phase Modulator PM-7 > George Dennis Tremolo > Small Clone > X-Series Delay > amp (Laney TF-700 head & Marshall Cab, or various Marshall stacks, depending on gig).

The delays sound totally awesome, no doubt about it, very wet and thick. I walked into the shop fully intending to get a BOSS DD-6, played around with it for about 30 minutes before deciding to committ to it. Before I paid the store assistant asked if I wanted to try to X-series delay, and I thought, what the heck just give it a shot. I flipped to the reverse delay patch, fiddled with the settings a bit and gingerly plucked a few notes... settled on the X-series about 30 seconds after that. This delay fully fully blows the Boss delays clean out of the water in terms of usability, affordability and sound quality & variety (pity there's no EQ function though).

Its possible to get all sorts of delay sounds, from rockabilly slapbacks to U2-Edge-ish delays. The models are all great, the analog model is pretty convincing (and i'm a memory man user), the reverse delay is great for turning heads, though the loop function is a bit hard to use, i've got little use for it right now. There is no noticeable noise or humming when the pedal is engaged, or maybe I'm not playing loud enough! But anyway this pedal is fairly quiet, at least from what I'm hearing. Two fellow guitar geeks whom I jam with regularly bought the same delay after hearing mine, and they're enjoying it as much as I am. The tap tempo function is a particular lifesaver, and really helps synch the repeats to the music, though its a bit of a challenge to get the timing exactly right.

One feature I wish this pedal had was to emulate the "UFO taking off" sound you get when you crank the repeats on a tape delay (or on a memory man/Boss delay)... i love doing that onstage and not being able to do that on the X series (except on the analog model) kinda sucks.

I've been using this delay since early 2003, after replacing my BOSS DD-3 in a major gear-upgrade exercise and the pedal just takes all the abuse you can give it and throws it back at you. Its definitely built to last, though the plastic knobs aren't particularly reassuring. The knobs do get knocked out of place easily too, so be careful how you arrange the pedal, in case your foot brushes over one of the knobs... your epic 3-second delay might just turn into a 3 microsecond slapback if you're not careful! I've used it in many different gigging scenarios, from church gigs to open air festivals to small punkrock club gigs, I've taken it on tour overseas... this pedal just lasts and lasts. I'd use this pedal without backup anytime.

I've been playing for about 8 years already, and I play a good variety of music, from churchy stuff to punkrock/hardcore and shoegazer-style indie rock. This pedal fit the bill perfectly for every gig I've played, no doubt about it. This pedal is gonna be on my pedalboard for a long long time. This may not be the perfect pedal, but then again, which pedal is anyway? I'd recommend this pedal to anyone.

Oh no, you may have to read! you may have to read the instructions to use the tap and the loop, but over all it doesn't take a brain surgeon.

Well, I went in with the intensions on buying a BOSS delay and walked out with the digitech. I compared all the current BOSS models to it and hands down it's a better sound. It's warmed, more flexible, seems to be built better, and best of all cheaper. Don't get me wrong I am a huge BOSS fan just like the rest of us, but hey would you rather have the gold or the platinum?

Seems to be reliable and built a little more tougher then a boss (and i'm convinced boss pedals can survie a nuclear war), but I've only had it for a couple weeks. hopefully the electronics are reliable and it last as long as my boss pedals.

Hopefully i'll never need it.

Overall it smokes. I would recommend you buy one, it might bring out a little more creativity it has for me. If it were lost I'd buy a new one if it proves it can take the abuse my boss pedals have taken, and like i said i've only had it for a couple weeks.

Well for what I need to use it for its cake.I have not got mine home yet as its on a layaway plan at the store.Anyway I tried it on tape delay and tweaked the knobs for about an hour in the store and bought it.

Well I went in for a Boss but they were out.My freind at the counter said the digitech was a really nice delay.I tried it with a Marshall combo and a strat.I set it to tape delay and tweaked it.I thought it had a beutiful sweet warm realistic sound.Dare I say better that the Boss pedal my freind gigs with(the one I ws almost sold on).I think this is one of the better delays out there.

Well I bought it to gig with,and it seems like a strong case.I sure hope it holds up.LOLanyway I can't rate this yet.

Well the tap tempo(what the hell is that anyway??),mod delay,looper and 1-4sec modes are pretty worthless to me.More/less one of those "I've had to much Scotch and feel like annoying the neighbors at 3am"kinda feature.I bought this effect to be used sparingly on about 3-4 solos a night.I will most likely keep it as I had it on tape mod ith a short reapeat and a half kinda echo.

Easy to use but has stupid and frustrating design limitations.

Sound quality is ok but you can't get echo only. On the x series reverb you can get reverb only, why not here. This renders the reverse mode stupid as you want to hear reverse only as to get a Hendrix are you experienced sound. To hear the original signal and then the echo in reverse just sounds retarded. Plus it sounds like hell when you adjust the delay time, no runaway trains or good sci-fi here. The mod delay is too subtle, it's hard to hear much chorusing. Also you can't get any slap doubling as from the boss d3, this means dry out one side and echo only out the other, a very basic echo effect and very striking but can you do it here? - NOOOOO! , just that damn ping pong crap with the original signal in the center.

I don't know and I hope it lasts but I have others. You see I am an old geezer who is addicted to buying this kind of thing, I've got about 217 such gizmos.

Instructions were simple enough. When just "out of the box" things worked as they should.

To my ears the sound quality was on par with the Boss delays

It began to act up after about 20 hrs of service. Refused to turn off, mostly. I blamed the dinky switch but now know it isn't a hardware issue. Could be battery related, but when using it with a Boss 9V adapter it still messes up. I think it may be that even with an adapter the thing needs a fresh battery. Makes no sense. I should have bought a Boss. My other Boss pedals never let me down. Never.

I usually don't bother "big" companies tech support. I'm confident I'd get a runaround since the problem is intermittent. Unlike Morley pedals. Now there's a company who eats breathes sleeps company support.

I wish I had bought a Boss. This pedal has embarrassed me on some big shows. I was disappointed in Digitech a decade ago but thought 10 yrs later they may have learned how to build quality. Nope.

its pretty easy to just scratch the surface of this pedals features but its pretty simple to get a great sound out of it

this pedal blows every boss delay outta the water i tried them all out i had been searching for a delay for almost a year i tried the dd-2 dd-3 dd-5 and he dd-6 and the dd-20 as well as the ehx deluxe memory man and they all suked.i also tried the line 6 dl-4 which is an incredible pedal but i just dont have the kinda budget for that and this pedal is offly close to it for less then have the price which rox. well i excpected some noise because im runnin my charvel cx 291 into a ehx hot tubes overdrive into a dunlop gcb-95 into a ds-2 turbo distortion into the input of my amp then outta my fx loop i run a digitech phaser into the delay then into the digitech multi voice chorus so i excpect some noise since i got a fair amount of pedals. this effect always sounds good no settin sounds bad i can get almost every delay tone out there it just beats out every single compact delay pedal there is. the delay is very warm not digital sounding at all very impressive it sounds great with all my effects no bad sound at all newhere in my setup. o i forgot im runnin through a peavey delta blues 210 with tremelo

i play rock blues jazz funk pretty much everything but heavy metal scremo stuff and this pedal fits in perfectly.i have already specified wat gear im using.i would definetly buy this pedal again tottaly the best. i luv evrything about it no hates at all. my favorite feature is the tape delay and the tap tempo

as far as the ease of use goes the pedal is relatively self explanatory in most of it's functions, the odd thing like the tap function will need a bit of practice.

the effects (when they work!) are cool enough, the backwards function and the loop function are quite cool additions to the basic delay effect, and you get the option of a digital or tape delay giving a reasonable range of sounds

seriously after all the nice things i've had to say you'd thing i'd be ready to give it a 10 here, or something but no, all the effects on this unit are cool, ...WHEN THEY WORK! which is unfortunately not that often. i had one of those 'it worked well at the shop' experiences, unfortunately i hadn't done my homework (eg reading reviews here) imagine my surprise when i'm sitting at home basking in the beautiful sounds of delay when i realise the beautiful sounds of delay have stopped, i haven't turned the pedal off, the battery is still fine, the pedal has just stopped working, and this is how well it works, the effect either turns itself off of gets stuck on and the only way to fix it is to take out the battery and put it back in again (and sometimes that doesn't work either!) a lot of other people have said similar things on this page, listen to them, unless you are one of those strange people who can overlook it's faults and the inconvenience of having to take the battery out and not mind because 'at least it's cheap!' then sure go and buy one, but if you have a brain go and still not much money, try and find something second hand, it'll probably be more reliable!!

well from memory the website just had the instruction manual, didn't bother emailing them, i just returned it for a refund and got a Boss delay unit that, while more expensive is also more reliable

i had abandonned effects pedals for a while to concentrate more on my technique but i now have a few, i still prefer invidual effects pedals to some big multi fx rig.
i have written this review mainly as a warning to all out there who are thinking of buying it, you should listen to all the people who have reviewed this and said it is crap, because it is, is doesn't matter what style you play! if this unit worked and didn't have its various faults then yes it would be one of the best buys on the market because it is cheap and has a few different sounds but i'd say digitech need to get back to the drawing board!

the worst thing is that after returned it and explained how it didnt work the guy at the store just apologised that the unit was faulty and then put it back on display for sale!!

It is digital, but its better than any boss delay. I use this in conjunction with a line 6 dl4 to create big sounds and little sounds. The delay on the digitech is a different kind of sound to the digital delay setting on the line 6. Its a very warm sounding pedal, no noise, no colouration of the overall tone, just nice warm delays. The tape delay setting had me confused at first, the line 6 tape delays give a very authentic replication but this doesnt...or so I thought, play with it for a while and I changed my mind, its wonderful....really really really warm, after I had messed around I ended up laying for 3 hours solid just using the tape delay on the digitech and had the time of my life. This pedal, in my opinion is the best stompbox delay on the market at present, I've heard boss DD5's and 3's and they are ok but this blows them out of the water. The DL4 is in a different category all together but I've also reviewed that in the appropriate place...

Its just brilliant, it really really is. Forget Boss, this is what you want. The digital delay is nice and warm, the tape delay is fantastic, the modulation delay is unbelievable (better than the line 6 DL4 modualtion delay for getting big sounds). it has a reverse feature on it, which isnt the best I have to say...however it does have its own character...and its got a 4 second loop function.

I'm serious, this thing is brilliant and I wouldnt be without it.

I had to play with it a lot, but that's got to do with my naievity with this type of effect. I enjoyed playing with it.

I run it through my effects loop as does our other guitar player. No problems. Yes it changes the sound, but aren't I trying to do that? I'm using a Fender DeVille 2x12. Any effect can be overdone, and this is not exception. I just dial in the right sound to give me a smooth control of my delay.

Built like a rock. My built in reverb is my backup.

I play classic rock, and this pedal really gives me a studio sound in the gig. I would replace it if lost or stolen with the same pedal. I am very satisfied.

Its like any single effect pedal. It just takes a bit to understand it. After a little playing with it, youll get the idea. A good thing about the knobs is their stiff, this means if your foot bumps the knobs while playing it will most likely stay at the same settings.

the quality of sound is terrific on this pedal. abbsolutely no noise when dissabled. 7 different types of delay and a wide variety of adjustments makes this pedal have a wide range of sounds. Mode 1 is 10-250 milliseconds, mode 2 is 250ms-1sec, mode 3 is 1-4 seconds. Thats right 4 SECONDS of DELAY! I will most likely never use 4 seconds though. Mode 4 is a Tape Delay simulator which sounds great. Mode 5 is a chorused delay which i like to use. Mode 6 is Reverse delay which sounds a bit space-like but a cool thing to mess with. Then Mode 7 which is the LOOP setting. Compress the pedal and record up to 4 seconds of riff then you can even add licks over top of it, so basicly you can simulate infinate guitars at once. This pedal also has a Tap Tempo feature and a stereo output.

Im mostly into Tool and as of now i play a dillion PRS style guitar into a Boss Xtortion (great for a tool like tone) then into the digidelay into a crate 220watt head 4x12 1/2stack. For my style of music, its good. I like the fact that if you play something then dissable the pedal, the delay keeps playing the rest of its repeats. All in all i love this pedal.

Incredibly fiddly - especially the tap delay and loop section - I agree with the negative reviews here, my experience is consistent with theirs. I was severely embarrassed at a gig when the delay would not turn off.

Playing nearly 30 years now so listen up, I've seen'em come and go over the years. Yes this thing does eat the Boss DD5 - I tried them both out in an A/B comparison. Digitech is better quality by far, but still no cigar. The loop is too short, reverse looping does not cut out the original signal and the tape delay simulator is only good if you run it through an effects loop. Suggest you wait a little longer for a boutique pedal - this thing is a bit of a toy really. Save your money.YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR.

I dont know about some of these other postings. This thing sounds AMAZING for a tiny pedal. The analog delay is awesome. I bought this pedal mainly for the tap feature. I was considering the Line6 dealy modeler, but that thing doesnt give you the ablity to set the tap tempo while the delay is inactive. With this pedal though, I came up with a solution that works pretty damn good.

Many people are very concerned about true bypass with this pedal, or any pedal with switching like this. heres a solution. Get a true bypass loop selector, like the Boss LS-2 line selector. Run your effects loop through the bypass section of the line selector. Run your Digidelay thru one of the loops, and keep it on tap-mode permanently. This way, when you have the line selector in bypass mode, its REALLY bypass, PLUS you can tap in the tempo of the song youre playing. When you kick in the delay by activating it with the LS2, the delay tempo is already set.
Besides, what other pedal can give you an awesome warm analog delay with the ability to tap a tempo in for under 100 bucks? answer? NONE!.

I traded a bunch of older pedals for this one at GC. I traded in two BOSS RV3. Good pedal, but sometimes would not switch the delay off and it kept looping in the background. terrible. For 100 bucks, there really isnt anything better than this.

Quiet straighforward but best to read the manual and understand it fully.Comared to the analogue stuff from the 80's (boss etc)takes a little time to try and get that natural decay.
Beware,when you stomp the pedal on some modes it does not "cut" the delay.In addition has some pretty useless features such as reverse loop,great I suppose if you want to record some sci-fi effects for your school play.

Used a few times with various amps (Marshall superlead,boogies etc).Pedal tends to remove some of the tone bypassed.

This is by far the worst effect pedal Ive had in 30 x years of playing.It has a mind of its own.it switches off/on of its own accord,refuses to switch off unless you disconnect the battery and the best results Ive had are when its back in its box behind the settee.

This pedals going back to the mail order company so no need to contact digitech !!.

If you want a decent delay pedal,and if you want my humble opinion save your pennies and try and get your hands on an analogue pedal.
If you must get a digital delay try boss dd3 or dd5.

Easy to use initially, just tweak the knobs to find the right sound. Using tap-tempo takes a bit more practice though, can be easy to get confused.

Sound quality is good for what i need it for, it's used after distortion so i don't really notice any signal degredation. I also own a DD3, and prefer the sound that the digidelay gives, particularly with the tape-echo function.

Used it live on numerous occasions with no problems. Seems pretty solid.

I play thrash-garage-disco-core (basically noisy punk of some description) and this pedals good for what i need, a bit of echo now and then. I basically use this for the tape echo, but it's cheaper (and prob. more reliable) than an actual tape echo. Good value for money.

It's a phenominally easy to use pedal. The controls are simple and easy to get used to. Very self-explanitory and very fun.

There is absolutely no corruption of sound that I could hear through this pedal. The only problem for sound quality is on the reverse setting it can get overly noisy, but that's to be expected from a triggered function.

I play a lot of rock and emo type of music, but this pedal would be great for any style. It even works great for other things, like vocals. I like this pedal so much I have two of them so I can have two presets or one for another line. This is one of the things I could not go without, though I have a lot of those. It's absolutely essential to my setup.

Self-explanatory, of course, as most free-standing pedals are. Labelled dials, and a Boss-style foot pad. Sometimes you have to press a bit harder than normal to turn it on, though.

Excellent, crystal clear delay. There is no loss of quality whatsoever on any of the settings, and there's a real wealth of sounds to be found in this thing. Some of the effects are a bit unusual (such as reverse delay), and you're unlikely to use them often, but it's nice to have a few extras to play around with. The in-built sampler works very well, a nice little bonus. I can't find anything bad to say about this.

As I mentioned, the pedal can be a little stiff, but to be honest it's hardly a problem. The box itself is very robust. The design is obviously very Boss-inspired, but most pedals are like that these days.

I play a real mix of music, from 60's (Beatles, Stones, Hendrix, Clapton) to 70's (Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin) to 90's (Radiohead, Nirvana, Smashing Pumpkins). Delay isn't always appropriate, but I definitely use it more often than not. This pedal is great for adding colour and atmosphere to solos, adding weight to chords or just for making weird effects - basically everything you'll ever want out of a delay pedal. I'll always make sure I've got at least one of these pedals, as they're just so versatile.
This pedal also works really well if you feed it into Digitech's Digiverb pedal from the same series - you can achieve some very cool, haunting, echoey effects. If you have both pedals, try this: Set the volume on both pedals to mid. Set the delay to a second or so, then extend the repeat as far as possible. Set the decay on the reverb to maximum, and select the 'church' reverb effect. Run a distortion pedal into the delay, with very high gain. You'll get a really eery, atmospheric hum in the background as you play, which continues to build. If you're soloing, you'll get an immense wall of noise behind you, but because of the delay, it won't interfere with the main guitar sound. It won't make you popular with the neighbours, but it's certainly very striking. Try playing something like 'Sorrow' by Pink Floyd.

Ease of use? It's a pedal, you step on it and it works. Like most delays in my opinion, it's incredibly easy to get a sweet and usable sound out of it. Unlike a flanger or an envelope filter in which some sounds are too outrageous to use, every setting here I can find a use for. What makes it the best? Like the new Ibanez pedal, this delay has a myriad of setting that the Boss DD-3 does not. Though unlike the Ibanez, it's built like a tank just like the sturdy Bosses. So Boss-like construction, the most settings available on a decent priced pedal, and 4 seconds of delay (most of any pedal)? I'll take it!

While there is a noticable difference between a true analog delay and digital delays, this is one of the best digital delays I have heard. It sounds very nice, on par with the Boss delay pedals. What I think tips it over the scale is that it has 7 settings and up to 4 seconds of delay. Here's something way cool for you Digitech delay owners to try that I discovered - first, crank your 'repeat' dial up to about 4/5 of max; second, play something that sounds neat repeating; third, crank up the 'repeat' to max; fourth, continue to play, but now you'll have no delay at all even though the pedal is still on while what you previously played infinitely repeats. I don't know if this is a feature or a quirk, but it's freakin' cool, allowing you to play two entirely different parts at once. This category gets a 9, just because an expensive analog delay will always sound smoother.

Solid like a Boss tank. No DOD crappity crap here.

I play generally heavy-but-not-too-heavy music with my band, like Corrosion of Conformity, Tool, The Cult, and Alice in Chains. We've been expirimenting with Middle Eastern sounding drones and scales, and this delay pedal gives a lot of that type stuff a real badass feel. It's a pedal that definitely helps to write music, BUT, never rely on a pedal to make the song for you. Sometimes it's best to just turn the thing off and go with the basics... some bands have a hard time learning this :).

les paul in marshall, no noise, effects are good. reverse delay is a bit of a novelty it will wear off after youve forked out for it.

do not trust as far as you can catapult it with a feather. strong construction but bad components, went wrong, sent back to factory, went wrong again etc..

rubbish couldnt be botherd to really investigate a fault. it worked perfectly for the first 5 minutes every time then it would be dead and not work, the leave it for a bit and it would work again. obviously just plugged it in and got a sound then sent it back.

AMAZING and W A R M sounding!Did I say WARM?!!The tape mod sounds EXACTLY like my trusty (and now limited to studio use only due to aging problems) ROCKMAN stereo echo,only even warmer!I don't know how these guys did it,I was very afraid that I'd loose my signature delayed sound after retiring my Rockman but I get all the sounds I want (together with many different and WAY longer ones) with the Digidelay.Maybe the best sounding digital delay pedal ever made...

simple enough, look at the manual for the looper and the tap tempo functions, but apart from that, it's easy enough to be able to use it in songs within a few minutes. However, it's weird that some knobs turn one way but do the opposite to what you expect, and this is weird especially with the reverse effect, which is nigh on unusable past 3 on the time knob...

Digital, so it's crisp clear and the signal does not distort as the repeats go on in the way an analog would. However, if you're looking for a splashy analog machine, look elsewhere, cos this doesn't do Hank Marvin or anything...the nearest you get to a retro sound is when you set repeats to a minimum and time to a minimum, and you get a country slapback effect...

I use this with an Aria Pro 2 magna series strat type guitar, a morley pro series 2 wah pedal, a line 6 fm4 filter modeler, an electro harmonix big muff pi and this all goes into a carlsboro glx100 amp. The delay pedal sits imbetween the fm4 and the big muff. It's not noisy at all really, and although it doesn't have true bypass (I think), most of my other effects do so it doesn't affect the signal to a great extent. I can't hear any difference myself anyway.

The effects are all great, but it's a bit samey if you try to use them in every song you do. Also, it would be good if there were programmable memory options, so you could store your favourite settings, but then it would be about 50 pounds dearer, so it's no big deal.

It's easy to get every modern delay sound, from a percussive U2 vibe, to a Pink Floyd hypnotic rhythm...no problem, but as I said before, no analog type sounds here. Maybe I'm showing my ignorance at what types of delay do what things, but the tape delay simulator has no big differences to the other types, but as I said, I'm new to the world of effects, so I have no idea about ancient analog delays, and as I wouldn't consider using them, it matters very little to me.

I prefer the chorus delay over the others, but they are all pretty classy, and the looper is superb for creating little riffs and then snippets of solos, and then modding your sound with other pedals and playing a polychord over it...things like that can make you sound superb, and putting a riff into the looper can be valuable to see what works with the riff...4 seconds loop is far too short though, and I would have paid extra for a longer loop time.

It's as unbreakable as BOSS stuff apparently, but going past the manufacturer speil, it's easy to see that this is very well built. Nothings going to fall off or break on this really.

It's a battery eating machine though...Seriousley, I went through about 6 duracell high quality batteries in about 3 hours. Can't be used without a battery.

It's a good match for the music I play, which is largely modern weird alternative, so it's easy to use this to create drones and minimalist phased beat type things. It's also not hard to get an original sound out of it, and it even sounds useable if you just randomly turn the knobs and play any old cack.

I would definately buy this again, but maybe I'd look for something with a longer loop time, such as the Line 6 Delay modeler. In fact, the only reason I didn't get that was because it's too expensive.

It's a good tool for using to create new music and things like that, but it's best I find for creating atmospheres and textures rather than huge stadium rock riffs. In my band, I do all the guitar effects and textures, with the occasional solo, and I find it a usefull thing to have for this purpose. It's not going to be good for styles like metal (correct me if I'm wrong) but that's a reflection on the effect rather than the pedal, so it's not the pedals fault. If you want a delay, I would suggest either this one, the Line 6 Delay modeler or the Boss version, which is apparently good (I never tried it) but less versatile...

This is incredibly easy to use, mainly because the manual is so comprehensive. If you can't figure the manual out, don't spend #100 on one pedal.

This pedal has a bit of noise when used with distortion, but I tend to use it on clean sections of my songs anyway, so this is irellevant. The great thing about this pedal is that the delay trails continue after you've switched the pedal off... as opposed to the BOSS units that tend to cut out abruptly. The analogue delay simulation is not that dissimilar to the digital ones, but when you twist the time control around whilst playing it does cool pitch effects. Crazy when distorted...etc, you know the drill for making lots of noise. :-D

The reverse mode is not particulary great, as it mixes the original signal in. Still, sounds good for intros/outros.

The looper is excellent, this pedal uses Digitech's Audio DNA chips, so it's a 24 bit looper, can hold 4 secs of playing (which isn't a lot, but enough for messing with) and it can be stacked, so crazy overdubs are do-able.

The modulated delay is good, the way it oscillates in sync with the BPM you set it at is handy... basically a sort of Rush/U2 type sound, a sort of cheap version of the Visual Sounds H20 chorus/echo pedal. Nice though.

Only problems are distortion noise, strange reverse mode and short loop time. Everything else is better than equivalent, and higher, priced BOSS models.

This thing is a rock.

Excellent for many styles. Endless uses? Perhaps, but I need to give it longer. I still rate this far more than BOSS products, so I'd recommend it to anyone searching for a great value digital delay compact pedal.

It's very easy to get good sounds out of this unit, just pick your mode (which is labeled pretty well, though the text is kind of small if it's on the floor and you don't have much light it might be hard to read), and turn the knobs. The manual is short but covers everything, including the cabinet simulator feature (not sure if I would ever use this, though, it only works if the delay is on). The action on the switch itself is a little springy, but not too bad.

I use a 1980 Les Paul Standard with a Marshall Silver Anniversary 50 watt head & 4x12" cab, and this pedal sounds good, though I can hear a bit of "digitalness" at times - not enough to bother me, and nothing you won't hear in most digital dealy pedals, but still something to consider if you've got a nice clean analog signal path. I'm still not sure if the tape delay mode really does much compared to the regular delay setting, but it's the range I look for so that's what I've been using. The reverse delay sounds good, but really should block out the original signal at higher levels - at the very least you should be able to use the second output to get that effect, but you can't.

I've only owned this pedal a short time, but it seems well built and I expect it to last me for a long time.

I have no customer support experience with digitech, though their website sucks in that the menu system doesn't work with Mozilla, and is glitchy on Mac IE and there are no text links for those who can't see the submenus (my day job is a web designer so this stuff bugs me). To be fair you can navigate to the customer support page (go to "contact" link, duh!), which unfortunately is only an email form and a phone number.

The very best thing about this pedal is the "spillover" effect where you can end a solo, cut off the delay, and still get the trailing-off repeats. Very nice! This is the feature that convinced me to buy this pedal vs a Boss one, even though I went to the store convinced I was getting a Boss pedal, since I've had great luck with them, and never really liked digitech products (those on-off switches used to be really bad). I was mainly looking for a very simple delay that I would leave at one setting for just a song or two for some trippy feedback delay stuff, and this does that and lots more. The price is also very good compared to other digital delay pedals.

I use this little monster with a standard strat and a Marshall 800 combo. The pedal is not noisy, and the effects sound A-1, they don't mask my tone or sound to extreme. the stereo pingpong is sweet, and the loop mode is amazing. reverse is hendrix-page-like when you set it just right. The only thing i don't like is how it keeps on repeating after you bypass the pedal, it's fuckin annoying. the tap tempo is a little messed too, but you can get used to it.

This pedal is pretty easy to use, any guitar nerd (you are one if you are reading this!) could figure it out. Seven different delays... NEATO!

I use a Fender 70's reissue Stratocaster (how original) with lace sensors. This device ain't too noisy. I play through a Fender hot rod deville 212, and it doesn't kill my tone at all. You can get great sounds. I like pretending I'm actually good. This thing'll play notes for you! How cool is that? I can get a good Pink Floyd the Wall ish tone, but I also like Sonic Youth style annhialation. This puppy (yes, puppy) will do it all. The reverse delay I have yet to find a good use for, but I'm stupid.

It's more likely to screw up than a distortion pedal, but there is a lot more going on in there. It hasn't messed me over yet. If you depend on a delay pedal this bad, you probably suck! You damn hippie!

You can get a warranty on the web page, I reccomend it because it cost 105 bucks. So do it!

This is a versatile delay. My old one, a crappy DOD, pales in comparison. I don't even use it that much in my band, I just use it to make practicing fun! It's worth the extra bucks to pick up this pedal as opposed to a Boss or DOD. You can do alot more with it. I think any guitar person needs one. Go buy one, yay!

has some non-intuitive features, mentioned in the manual...cabinet simulation and repeat hold...

When the battery went flat this thing started making some awful noise!!! before the light went dim or wouldn't turn on it started screaching randomly...I'm starting to think somethings wrong, but I'll probably start using an adapter to cure this problem! This thing is solid!!!

there are some interface problems in my opinion:
-the reverse delay should give you the option of muting the true signal!
-the 4 sec looping is just too short...
-I can't seem to turn the loop off by stomping on the pedal, or holding it or whatever the manual said...
-Echo continues after the pedal is bypassed...is that legal??/ this should be an option

A couple of things.
1. I don't like the distance you must move the pedal to achieve
contact with the tap tempo also the tension in the spring is to
resistive to the tap.
2.I don't like having to hold the pedal down when making a loop
and let go at the precise moment the loop is done on the downbeat
of the next measure. This goes against my natural inclination to tap down on the down beat.

Sounds great. Doesn't have the character of the Line6 delay pedal
but sounds just as transparent.
The modulated decay is nice and warm.
I like capturing a phrase by putting the repeats at 3oclock,playing
the phrase then turning the repeats up all the way.It captures your last lick and repeats it while you play over it. Line6 can't do that.
Also, you can easily create polyrhythmical patterns by slicing the
pattern with a tap in just the right rhythmical spot, like as in the
(and of 3) in a measure of 4/4.Cool.

The rubber foot came off when using velcro.
On this one issue, I give it a 1.

For the price paid, sound, and real estate it takes up on my floorboard, I have to give it a 10. I fixed the rubber foot(by the way, this problem also occured on the Digiverb pedal I bought),got on with life and I DIG this pedal.

I had this effect a day. I was all excited from getting the nice sounds out of it in the music store, and I couldn't wait to get it home. It's fairly easy to use, but I couldn't really tweak the sound. When I would, it would often get stuck on some horrible, unusable delay setting that sounded like a skipping CD. Worse yet, it wasn't very sensitive to my settings. When I'd try to get a specific sound, I'd find it was either too short or too long a delay time, with no way to find a nice median. I blame this on it being a digital modeling pedal, rather than a straight up delay. There are a lot of features, few of them good. I returned this 2 days later.

When I bought this, I was using a Squier Fat Telecaster, Squier Affinity Strat, and Fender Duo Sonic through a Fender BXR amp. That's a crappy setup, but I was getting some OK sounds. The only pedals I owned were a Boss DS-1 distortion and an Electro-Harmonix Holy Grail reverb. I couldn't get many usable sounds out of this combination. The other effects each made it muddy. On their own, the tape delay simulation was nice, as were the shorter delay times. Backwards delay was a one-trick pony that started out cool but got old fast--there needs to be some way to cut out the original signal and let it be pure up backwards guitar. The tap tempo was awkward. Otherwise, the other delay times were awkward for me and sounded cold. It wasn't noisy. Plus, like I said earlier, it was very hard for me to fine-tune my sound with this pedal. Maybe I just got a bad one.

I don't think it would last. I've got a feeling that the computer technology in the pedal is prone to errors, and the problems I had in setting it correctly fresh out of the box don't make me think it would hold up for the long term. I only had it for 2 days, and it never broke, but I give it a 6 because I think it would have.

I play spacey, psycadelic, bluesy punk rock. I'd thought this reverb would be a good fit, at only about half the cost of a new Boss pedal and about 1/5 the price of a real space echo. I was wrong. This has some good points, and for the price it's probably about the best new delay to be found, but it's not a good pedal. I suggest you save your money and go for a used Boss DD-3 or DD-5, or maybe check out one of those Danelectro pedals if you're looking for slap-back, tape delay simulation, or backwards delay. This is just not worth having, unless you only want a generic sounding delay to use on a couple of songs.

Excellent sound, clean and quiet. All the effects are very useful, reverse is my personal favorite and the 4 second looper is great too.
Takes just a little tweaking to get the levels right, especially if you have a pedal chain.

Had it 24 hours but have owned digitech gear for years and they have never let me down yet.

I was considering the Boss DD5 but this had much more bang for the buck and did the job better. I have nothing against Boss, as I use their pedals as well, but there wasn't much comparison here. This sounded much better to me than the Boss as I tried them both. The Digitech just had more presence and depth to the various delays. More of a varitey of effects under the hood was another factor that sold me. Anything from rockabilly slap back echo to fripp-like layers of loops, this pedal can do it. Did I mention the wonderful 8 seconds of reverse delay for all the guitar soundscapers and tone experimentalists out there? Overall an outstanding delay pedal, useful to any style. Try this back to back with the Boss and you'll see the difference.

Very easy to use, especially considering all the features.

I use a Carvin MTS-3212 amp and a home made Strat style guitar with Dimarzio Super Distortion pickups. The Digidelay is extremely quiet. I don't use any other effects and wanted a little delay. The Digidelay is perfect. There are so many features and options for a pedal in this price range and they are usable, not like some other "do it all" effect units.

Not sure yet, seems sturdy.

Overall, I rate this a 9. I especially like the tape delay mode. It is really natural sounding and does not "over digitize" the sound. I was looking at a Boss pedal and decided on the Digitech, not because of the price but because of the features. I've been playing for about 15 years now and I like a very simple setup. This pedal is easy to use, very quiet, and does not alter the overall tone with any unwanted effects. It is definitely worth a try.

Tons of features, and types of delay, enough to keep me busy for a while.

I'm using this in the loop of a fender deville, along with a boomerang. In the front of the amp is my boss od3, boss ph2, mxr phase 90, digitech whammy2, and a morley bad horsey wah. Guitars are carvin dc150, and tl60. I had a line 6 dl4, and traded it for this pedal, because I like the design, and simplicity much better.

I'd reccomend this to anyone. The tap tempo is great, and the digital delays as well as the tape echos are great. It also is stereo, so you have it all. And it's cheap!!

This product is very easy to use

I'm using it with 3 other pedal effects and it seems be a little noisy although I'm not sure if I can blame the pedal, I'm having some issues with power supplies and my amp. Overall I think the pedal sounds really good, I've been able to get a nice smooth delay and slapback that I use quite often.

I did compare this product to a few other delay pedal and was able to get the sound I like, that's why I bought the peadl!

...turn knobs...the sound changes...kinda like the radio....

...I like it...especially the "mod" setting on the X control knob...heads are modulated for a nice chorus effect...chorus with delay....IMO it doesn't get much better than that.....tape delay setting is different....seems to warm up the overall guitar tone....straight digital delay settings are OK...high level ratios yield a slight digital aftertaste.....if digital is your bag the Guyatone MD-2 or 3 might suit you better...nary a digital breath in those babies....

...it hasn't broke yet....better use an adapter or you'll think its broke within a short period of time....

...for a pedal job this thing is loaded out with features....within its capabilities its as good as any delay unit I've used in the past....and better than most....the Guyatone MD-2 is a close 2nd....

It's all pretty simple, except that there's a quirk to the REPEATS knob--if you turn it up all the way, the effect switches off completely. It's in this area where the "hold" function can be activated, but there's no resistance between the setting for infinite repeats and the setting for hold. If you're playing live and want to set the repeats to infinte, you're likely to get it wrong, especially in the dark. The rest makes intuitive sense, though.

I A/B's this pedal with the Boss DD-5 at my local music store. They can't get the discount on Boss stuff that, say, Musician's Friend can, so the Digitech pedal cost HALF as much. Both pedals are good, but the Digitech is better. It has a warmer sound, for one thing; it has a really quite good tape delay simulation, and the TIME knob works better. How? Well, if you change the TIME setting on the Boss while a note is being played, the sound gets screwed up in a harsh, digital, steppy way, whereas on the Digitech it glissandos up and down in an analog-sounding way, an Electro-Harmonixy way. Of course this is not something most people would take advantage of often. I like it though. I give it a 9 partially out of my ignorance of what else is out there, but it's the best pedal delay I've heard.

It's very heavy, all-metal, apparently as sturdy as a Boss.

I just got it. Though I can tell you Chris Broadwell at Ithaca Guitar Works, where I bought it, called tech support about the REPEATS knob quirk while I stood there waiting, and he got a live person within about 90 seconds to explain it.

Seems good to go! I think these new Digitech pedals will give Boss a run for their money--not that I dislike Boss, but they've been resting on their laurels, pedal-wise, for some time. I hate this whole "X-Series" gimmick, though--the special "extra" knob is interesting on some of the pedals (like the "morph" on the overdrive pedal), but on this one it's just a plain old selector knob. Drop the fancy-pants marketing and just sell the suckers as good, high-quality effects.

It's a delay pedal- it's pretty self-explanitory, especially if you have a manual! Looping precisely is probably the only tricky thing, as in it might take you five minutes to figure out compared to the two seconds you figured everything else out!

I usually get boutique or just wierd pedals (favorite companies are Electro-Harmonix & Fulltone) so I usually stay far away from digital anything. I found this guy while checking out the Boss DD-5. The main feature I wanted was the "Reverse" mode, and secondly I wanted a loop device. The Digi kicked the DD-5's ass in every category; the clincher was the price ($99 vs. $139). Combined with my Electro-Harmonix Memory Man I have all the echo/delay/chord bending chorus/wierd reverse I could ever want. (Oh yeah, and 4 sec. loops too!)

I really shouldn't vote, but I'm putting in a 9 just because it's obvious that Digitech has thought about this design. For one thing, it's a rip-off of Boss's design, but they've redone the battery compartment so that you've got a strong pin keeping everything together instead of that stupid screw thing Boss uses that fails after awhile. I can't think of any other sign of reliabilty, except maybe the 1-year warranty from the company.

$99 pedal I got from Guitar Center(puke!choke!uggg!).... I don't think I'd bother. I'd just be an asshole and sell it on ebay if something was wrong.

Long delay, reverse, & looping are obviously in the "digital only" area. Why not just go for the guys with "digi" in the first half of their name? Their X-Series pedals are definitely up to the hype that's out there (i.e. how their Boss pedals x10000). I'm a musician who is all about everything. I have a huge vinyl collection, I go every show I can, I play guitars, pianos, drums, horns, whatever, and I know what's good. This pedal is worth it! Buy it now!

I just got this an hour ago. I might me one of the first people in the country to get one! I pre-ordered from Guitar Center. Seems easy to use. Looping is always hard - but that's like that with most stuff. the tap tempo is the greatest for a $99.00 pedal!

I like it. Sounds clean and very musical. The tape delay and modulated delay are real nice. Did I say tap tempo!

I play a R & B based style. Getting more jazzy as I get older. Sometimes venture into roots rock. This thing is a keeper. I record a lot.
