This effect is very simple to operate. It has a nice feel when you rock the pedal back and forth.

Sound Quality : 8
I'm using this pedal with a Fernandez les paul bodied guitar and a modified boss DS-1 (modded with more mids). The sound effect is strong enough to produce a nice angry lead tone. When I'm on clean setting, I can also emulate a nice swirling phase effect while rocking the pedal mildly. I owned the 535Q and GCB95 before but sold them because it was very hard to use live. The switch design on the 95Q is great! Now I can use effect througout a song without any effort. If I'll compare the sound of the 95Q and 535Q, I would go for the 535Q. If I'll compare the 95Q to GCB95, I would choose 95Q because the sound effect on the GCB95 is quite subtle.
I think the best amp setting for this effect is - lower treble and do not scoop the mids. Otherwise, your tone will be too shrill enough to make your audience head for the exit.

Reliability : 5
It broke after 2yrs of use.

Customer Support : 10
When the effect broke, I emailed the dunlop support requesting them to sell and ship the spare part for me to repair the pedal on my own. The technical support replied asking for me for my address (i'm from singapore). After a week I receive a mail with the dunlop spare part. Awesome customer support!!! I love this company.

Overall, this is an great product with a good design and awesome aftersales customer support.

Its a wah pedal just step on it and wah. The Eq is ok. pedal is very stiff and doesn't move as easily as a normal crybaby.

Sound Quality : 3
The wah has very little sound at the heel position. Can't end in a toe position on it because it is switchless. Just not a good wah sound.

Its a dunlop

this is the best wah ive owned in 25 years of playing.and i bought it when they first came out in 97?
yes,it is digital i believe as it has a pcb with micro components, but it has no effect on my tone when bypassed and a perfect buffer.
but switchless is the main reason to buy one.
sounds like a good crybaby should.

Sound Quality : 9
it sounds amazing clean with my strat and jc-60 amp.
but it also plays well before any distortion or overdrive ive ever put after it.
i use a tremolo like wah teqnique ALOT in my playing by rocking my wahs back and forth rapidly.the switchless designe makes this easier but so does the spring loaded treadle,it snaps back to the off position if you take your wieght off of it.
ive had this so long now that im afraid i couldnt go back to a non spring loaded pedal again.
i dont have much use for the volume boost or mini pots to adjust the wah q. i just set the q at maximum and turn off the boost to unity gain.

Reliability : 9
well, here is my reason for the review,my wah is about 12 years old and the tiny pcb mounted on off sensor switch finally stopped workin.
i contacted dunlop and they sent me a replacement over to europe without hesitation.pretty amazing customer service.
it was a really easy fix and now its ready to rock another 12 years or more. oh,the potentiometer is sealed too and mine has never developed any scratchyness.

Customer Support : 10
as i mentioned above, its not too common these days for tech support like that, especially at a big company.
so im giving 10's.

Overall Rating : No Opinion
i play reggae, funk, blues, rnb and rock with this wah.it covers any and all styles i throw at it.
well done dunlop! now,how about more hand wired products like the 74 script phase 90? maybe a handwired envelope filter or micro/chorus?

SWITCHLESS... thats why I bought it.Always used dunlop wahs, and then I was turned onto morley switchless,I was sold,as the lead singer I dont want to have to think about the switch while singing. Then I found out dunlop had a switchless, ordered it and love it.

I had the rack wah it was cool, but i use one setting,so I tried the 535q nice, but has a switch... cool for studio, tremonti wah cool but on the high notes almost not like its there, then I found this and love it,I can hear the change on the high note leads, also I like the stiffer feel of the pedal compared to morley.

Ease of Use : 9
It's a wa so it's easy just step and go.

Sound Quality : 10
The sound is unbeliveable on my rig. I use a lonestar special boogie and a strat. A match made in heaven. It has quiet switching and and very usable tone sweep. The volume boost is adjustable which is good because every amp reacts differently to wa's.

Reliability : 2
This is where everything goes far south! It worked great for about three months. It was the best addition to my sound in a long time. Then all of a sudden the wa would kick out to by-pass with my foot half way down. The company said I could send it back or tighten this screw like they would so I did. It worked for a month then it happened again. I called again and they said retighten it so Idid. It worked for another month then it intermittenly would not engage the wa at all. They said I should loosen the screw a little bit. By this time the warranty had run out and so did my patience. I think I it's a piece of shit that should'nt be on the market until the bugs are all worked out.

Customer Support : 8
The people I talked to were friendly and helpful but the product was faulty.

Overall Rating : 5
I play blues-rock for about 30 years about 100 times a year in a band situation. I would replace it if the new one would work any better but I'm very leery. The sound was exceptional so it's heart breaking that I feel this way. I have two old dunlap wawa's that crapped out over the years so I should have learned my lesson.

this thing is a very comfortable wah, and has that nice 'car pedal' feel that you dont have to think about just rock away. goes into bypass mode...easy.

Sound Quality : 7
well, the q-controll is pretty useless. leave in on 10 and forget it to the the best sound. the volume part is OK, sometimes you can get really lound tones from it sort of like pumping it up?...like press get a boost rock back half way and press again get double boost. i dont really like this but i guess its pretty typical of all wahs...the kill switch is a nice feature. the wah dosent really stand up in sound to something like an RMC3 or a vintage wah, (i replaced mine with an RMC3 and THAT is a perfect 10)

Reliability : 10
if it does have one thing going for it, it is one sturdy pedal, you could probably throw this out of an airplane with a bomb attached to it. you would find it gleaming atop the rubble unscathed, and working perfectly. so i guess it could be used without a backup

Customer Support : No Opinion
Umm no?

Overall Rating : 7
i have been playing for about 4 years and own a few other pedals. if this were lost or stolen, i would not replace it. i would of a year ago when i thought crybabys were where it all stopped. do yourself a favor and by an RMC3 you will not regret it. i did a side by side comparison and this thing just sounded flat next to an RMC3 but if price is an issue, this one will suffice...i mean its alright. i do quite like the rocker function though, and it is a brick...yea...its ok.

Easiest wah pedal ever! Has an auto spring back feature so you won't have to rock you foot back and forth. When you wan to use it,just rock on it like a car pedal. Take your foot off it and it turns into bypass mode.Simple enough?

Sound Quality : 10
You can get any sounds with it.
Jimi,Slash Zakk Wylde ect. ect.

I'm using it with an epiphone g400 and a boss MT-2 metal zone through a freaky lousy yamaha amp.(Only have this 2 pedals so far)
The wah pedal still sound great on clean and distorted channel!

Why not? Depend on it forever! It won't let you down!

Ease of Use : 9
Easiest effect to use ever. Switchless function is the most important thing to me...I just turn the other two mini pots up full.

Plug in and rock.

Because I generally use the wah just for lead, I use the volume boost switch in. I just have to put my foot on the pedal and I have my instant lead sound!

The only criticism is that the pots on the side (Q control and Volume boost) are only labelled on the underside.

Oh, and one other thing- if you have a pedal board, you need this on the far right hand side if you're going to use the volume boost switch- otherwise you won't be able to get to it.

Sound Quality : 9
The Crybaby is the industry standard. No question. Slash, Kirk Hammett, Jimi... I get the Wah sound I need.

I use a PRS standard into this wah into a Peavey Valve King 212- I like things simple.

I like the way I can use this pedal to control feedback on high gain settings...I do this a lot in my band.

Because of the volume boost, there it's inevitable that it will increase any background noise, but this is the same with any volume boosting pedal...it's not something you can complain about...it's just a fact of life! If it's a really big problem, get some decent pickups or buy a noise reducer pedal!

Reliability : 10
I absolutely depend on this thing. It IS my sound.

It won't break I don't think.

It's never shown any signs of fault. People don't lie when they say you can hammer in nails with these- you really can!

I'm going to get an adaptor so I don't have to worry about batteries at gigs.

Customer Support : No Opinion
I have never dealt with them.

If it ever broke (unlikely) I'd take it to my local guitar shop and pay to get it fixed, like I would with any of my equipment.

Overall Rating : 10
For rock, this is THE wah pedal in my opinion.

If it was lost or stolen, it'd piss me off A LOT. It's become kinda vital to how I play!

I LOVE the fact that you don't have you use a switch.

I wish they'd get rid of the pots- they're unnecessary! The switchlessness is the reason for this pedal, with the boost coming in handy now and then.

They are expensive, I wouldn't like to lose too many, but the practicality of the thing makes it worthwhile.

I didn't buy a Bad Horsie because the Crybaby is what everyone uses...I'm a sucker for branding!

In the studio, perhaps the original would be a better choice- more sweep I hear...but since I spend 99 percent of my time playing live, this is the Wah for me!

Ease of Use : 10
I totally agree with the users here. The Switchless feature was THE reason I bought this wah. The other features are okay, but this surpasses them all. It is just brainless and even more importantly, I can confidently use the wah for even one phrase at a time without worrying about it being off or not. It is all the difference in the world.

I have gigged with this and had NO problem with the short delay. That is a good feature because you can use the entire scoop of the wah without it switching off when you reach the bottom. The Dunlop guys know what they are doing.

Sound Quality : 10
The sound is the usual wah sound. I have an older Crybaby wah and this with the frequency knob all the way up sounds the same as a normal wah. In other words, I think the Q knob just makes the wah more subtle if wanted.

The boost is cool, but for me it is only good on distortion. If you are playing with a clean sound, adding 15db is just too jarring. BUT, that's why the boost switch is on the side. Easily turned off/on with the foot.

Reliability : 9
Yes. Crybaby's generally last a long time.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Never Tried.

Overall Rating : 10
Once again, the switchless feature seals the deal. I don't care what color or whose name is on it, if I have to use a switch, I don't want it. Get this and try it, you'll be happy.

Q always dialed up to max. (= best sound I think)

No his or noise, I use it with a Boogie F-30 and a PRS Custom 24.
Incredible for Live Situations. (U step on it, and it goes... Wah!)

It's a wah pedal, how hard can it be?

Sound Quality : 9
I love the way it sounds when I'm playing a clean or overdriven sound. It's a Crybaby and sounds like one.

I've used Dunlop wahs for years, they're very tough. The only thing I think is cheap is the plastic battery cover, those always break on mine and I end up having to put tape over them.

I've tried all the major brands and always come back to Dunlop. I used a 535Q for years, which I loved, then switched to a ZW-45, which I thought sounded a little bit better. Now I have a 95Q because of the switchless design. It comes on automatically when your foot touches it, like a Morley, without the audible "click" you get when you engage other models of Dunlop. Personally I think the various models of Crybaby are only slightly different from one another sonically. It's a matter of opinion as far as brands go, if you like the sound of a Dunlop then you should like the 95Q. I think the 535Q is a little more versatile but the switchless design is a big deal to me, I wish the other Crybabys had this feature. Most Morleys are switchless too but I don't like their sound as much as Dunlops. There's no tone-suck with mine (despite the lack of a true-bypass) but I only have 2 other pieces of gear between the 95Q and my amp.

One note: I've seen reviews saying this wah doesn't cut through or sound vocal enough or whatever. The way this wah (or any wah for that matter) sounds has ALOT to do with how your amp is EQ'ed. Lots of metal players scoop their mids for a heavy rhythm sound, and you need mids to get a wah to have that cool "vocal", expressive sound. I play heavy music and cut out some (not all!) mids for my rhythm sounds too but I have a very different EQ set up for my leads. This makes all the difference in the world when trying to make your solos cut through and getting that cool Slash-kinda wah sound on them. I use a Line 6 PODxt Live to do this, but a simple EQ pedal will do the trick as well. Bottom line, if you can't get your Crybaby to cry, your amp is probably EQ'ed wrong.

I bought it in July of 2004. Pretty easy to use, only problem was knowing when your turning the variable Q and volume which way was which.

Sound Quality : 7
With the clean channel this sounds great, you get a nice clean wah sound. I give it a 9.5 on clean.

When you turn on the distortion the pedal is lacking, you just don't get a wah sound. You just lose tone and sound quality as soon as you try soloing with distortion. Don't bother trying to get any response past the 15th fret either as you can barely hear and modualtion. So for distortion I give it 5

Total = Average of two channels = 7

Reliability : 10
Built like a tank. I've really taken care of it so it's in excellent condition.

Overall it is an alright pedal because it's switchless and I got it on special. But I should've saved a little more and gotten a 535Q or a Dimebag signiture wah, which I am getting as soon as I sell this one. I mainly play metal/prog rock now which this thing sucks for so I guess I have learnt from it. If your using it for jazz or funk and with the clean channel I do actually recommend it, it has a good wah sound with clean.

THIS PEDAL IT TERRIBLE WITH DISTORTION

Ease of Use : 8
It's a wah with a couple of bonus bits. The only complaint is the small size of the two knobs for the adjustable Q and output boost. It's hard to get to them on a crowded pedal board for changes during a set.

Sound Quality : 9
I've played around with other Dunlop WAH's and Vox's etc. Persoanl opinion this is the most flexible WAH I've used, it's stayed on my board for nearly 3 years. It will do anything from vintage to extreme wah aounds depending on how you set the Q control.

I run this as the second effect in chain Boss TU2->Dunlop 95Q->Visual Sound Route66->Zoom Hyperlead->EVH MXR Phase90->Visual Sound H20 into both a Laney VC30 and Rivera KH100.

The sound is awesome!!! I know a few people don't like the switchless feature because the pedal starts at the bottom of the sweep but I prefer it this way (strange I know : ). I play everything from Funk to Rock to Haevy to Blues and this pedal does it all with minimal fuss. Other than having to play with small knobs on dark stages it's great.

Particularly for the 'Porno' wakka wakka funk sound this is the best. Adds nice control for lead work but if you like playing with your Wah set to one spot then you'd have to keep your foot on it as the pedal automatically falls to the bottom of the sweep and turns off when you take your foot off.

I have no issues with noticable cut in or cut out as some people have mentioned.

Reliability : 9
Hasn't broken yet after 3 years use, had a Morley that died in less than a year (I'm fairly hard on Wah's) but so far so good.

Very easy to use. Plug it in set a few dials, good sound no matter what. Directions on the bottom of the unit is very handy. Since its switchless, you just step on it and it turns on. Step on it it shuts off.

Sound Quality : 9
Use lots of different guitars...mainly bridge humbuckers into this unit into a Carvin X100B and a Marshall slpx. Doesn't really effect tone. The tone of the wah on the other hand...is amazing. i like it better than the Bad Horise.

I play mainly rock (Van halen era) its perfect for metal rock blues...anything that needs a wah. The decible boost is awesome for solos and such...the adjustable Q dial is perfect for finding your perfect wah tone. I owned a 535Q and traded it in for this thing b/c of the switchless and less features...i was tinkering around with the 535Q more than i was playing with it!!

Easy to get a good sound out of it.

Sound Quality : 9
I'm using this with a solid state and an all tube amp, both Marshalls. It sounds great with both. I love the boost. I think it's 25 dB. You can get some really intense monster tones with this thing. Anyway it's great. I always have the Q and boost on high. This wah doesn't sound as good as my other wahs through a clean amp. Even with the boost on it's lowest setting. However, I don't care because I very seldom play with a clean setting. I have two other wahs for that if I ever need that type of tone. And they are a regular crybaby and a Vox 847. The 95Q has now become my main wah. It's geat for rock. I originally bought it for a friend. But when I tested it out I had to get me one. It was that good! It seemed like it made my guitar solos sing through my amps. It is very smooth for soloing. I guess it's the boost (a great feature!). Two other wahs I'd like to check out are the Crybaby Classic and Vox reissue with the Fasel inductor and the Morley Bad Horsie 2. But I already have three wahs so that will have to wait. I'm very content with what I have. Dunlop makes real good stuff.

Reliability : 10
I hope I can rely on it. My other two wahs are doing fine so far. I'm not playing out right now. If I gigged I don't think I'd need a backup.

Customer Support : 9
I've never needed a reason to ask for warranty service so far. I have emailed them in the past and they did anwswer.

Overall Rating : 9
I play mostly rock. And this thing is great for it. I love the boost! Great idea! I've been playing about 28 years. I'd buy another if I had to. The rocking pedal has more range physically than my other two wahs. I feel this helps me to get more precise control of the tones. It's very musical.

uh, i wrote the previous article.
i have realised that my fix is flawed. Instead of soldering over completely r1, which is actually about 3cms up from the bottom on the right hand side as you look at the pedal with the back off,
just solder a wire from the left hand side of r1, and then attach the other side of your short connecting wire to the right hand side of r22.....otherwise you can hear a slight glitch as the switch is activated and deactivated.
The delay disappears entirely, and the pedal i feel is more usable.

this pedal is very easy to use, just put the leads in the right sockets...
I got rid of that extremely annoying delay problem these pedals have.
what i did was i pulled the cover off the back and i soldered a wire from the resistor called r1 (which is located at the bottom of the pedal as you look at it with the cover off), and joined it to the right hand side of the resistor called r22(again as you look at the pedal with the back cover off.) r22 is located underneath the boost switch. there was no need to take the circuit board out of the casing.
please note that i soldered r1 totally over, that is, i bypassed it.
although i only soldered the wire to the right hand side of r22.
this pedal now has no delay whatsoever, and sounds like it should of in the first place.
the writing on the board is very small, and you have to be careful when you solder.
I recommend this procedure to everyone.

Sound Quality : 8
The sound of this pedal is very cool indeed. No-one is going to become an instant guitar hero god just by getting one of these, but it will enable you to write some cool music, and cover other peoples music well enough.
The pedal does have some digital hiss ( i assure you guys that this is a digital pedal).

Reliability : 8
this pedal could be used as an anchor, or an anvil.
This pedal is heavy, but inside there are some mini switches that will die one day.
I suggest that the pot is a good quality item but it too will die.

Customer Support : No Opinion
I suggest the company does not like people like me who tamper with their product.
I would never have tampered with it if they got it right themselves.

i play any crazy stuff that i can think of. i love writing stuff of my own. this pedal is good for that kind of thing.
I have been playing for twenty years.
other gear i have is old cool vintage amps and some boss pedals.
If it were lost or stolen i would use my dunlop 105q.(it works great for guitar, beefier..)

A very cool pedal, once you deal with the delay issue.

I use a Les Paul standard plugged into this wah>v-stack>decimator>marshall 1987x. I use this wah with distortion. I have the volume and Q settings at maximum and the boost on. Being switchless makes it easy to add at any point in the song.
Some people have made the complaint that the bass area of the footpedal is not usable because the pedal cuts itself off. This is true but I am one of the people who likes a wah pedal to scream when all the waydown and add mids when its about halfway. The 95Q does this well. I use it mainly for solos. For funk and r & b stuff this may be too harsh.

I also use a Bad Horsie sometimes. It is smoother sounding and has more travel. I kept hearing loose parts inside so I took it apart. The pedal is attached with 4 little tiny screws and the nuts fell off due to my aggressive wah use. I put'em back on but a week later they fell off again. The way they are placed under the pedal makes it very hard to tighten them. Also the circuit board is connected to these little bolts . I was afraid I might crack it if I tightened up the nuts too much. Now it doesn't work at all.
Here are the other wahs I've owned- Fireball Snarling Dog wah, a standard Crybaby, Chicago Parachute wah, Morley contour wah, Morley Black gold wah, Electro Harmonix wah, a Teese rmc 1 and a Teese wizard wah. I may move up to a Fulltone clyde 2 or A silvermachine. For ease of use and price the 95Q is neck and neck with the Bad Horsie. I play rock!

This pedal is awesome!!!!!!!!!!! It's got really sweet sounds. I haven't used any other wah pedal before. This is my first. I just got it today. The sound is awesome. It's good for anything from classic rock to metal. I like that it's switches. This is just my opinion.

Sound Quality : 9
The only reason I give it a 9 is because it makes noise when the pedal is in use with distrotion, but you probably get it out with noise gate or something because the noise is not that bad. I have an epiphone les paul junior and an epiphone SG special. My guitars run into my danelectro talk box (sweet pedal!!!)to my crybaby 95Q wah, to my danelectro milkshake chorus, to my danelectro hash browns flanger, then my danelectro PB&J delay. Then I go into a marshall mg10cd or my zoom fire-15. I can get pretty much any sound. Classic rock to metal. The effect is very good.

Reliability : 10
I definitely would use it at a gig without a backup. I can depend on it.

I haven't needed any help.

I play everything classical to metal. However my music turns out to be metal mixed with classic rock and some southern rock. This is a REALLY good match. I have been playing for about 3 or 4 years. I would probably buy a new one if it were lost or stolen unless I found something else I like better. I love everything about this pedal. I just hate the mostly subtle noise that it makes. I love the Q control and the knob and the boost switch. I really love the switchless design (it rocks!!!!). I went to a SAM ASH and tried a Boss V-wah and then this one. I tried this out and just bought it. I wish you could make it sweep a bit more. It really gives me a boost to my solos and even some rythm guitars. This pedal is AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!

I run a 2001 American Deluxe Fat Strat into two 25 watt Roland 405 amplifiers with a 12 inch celection vintage 30 extension cabinet under each 405. My signal path is a Samson AP1 U.H F. Receiver, Boss TU-2 tuner, Dunlop 95Q, Korg volume pedal, Boss BD-2 blues driver into the amplifier input. Through the serial effects loop are connected a Boss HR-2 harmonizer, Boss CE-5 chorus ensemble, Boss NS-2 noise suppressor, into a Boss RV-3 stereo reverb/delay which is then split into stereo and then connected back to each of the 405's effects return. Both amp A and amp B are controlled by the pre amp of amp A when using this signal path. The 95-Q is a vital componant of my stage rig and is used frequently to recreate sounds made famous by guitar legends like Jimi Hendrix and others. Our band plays classic rock from the 50's through today. With this set up, I am able to emulate the sounds Stevie Ray, Clapton, Keith Richards, Jimmy Page, Pete Townsend, Joe Perry, Rick Derringer, and many other guitar greats who played on many of the million selling classic rock hits we include in our repertoire.

Reliability : 3
This is my second 95-Q. My other one had a problem with the shut-off switch not alway activating when I removed my foot. I used it for over 3 years playing 50 to 75 gigs per year without incident until this past weekend when the on/off switch just stopped functioning.

The card that came in the box with my new 95-Q says 1 year warrenty. The other one can probably be repaired.

Overall Rating : 8
The 95-Q is still my favorite wah. I retired a Morley wah/volume several years ago because it was awkward to turn on and off. I didn't like having the wah and volume pedal combined in one unit either. I've been playing guitar for 35 years in various ensembles since I was a teenager. I would replace it again if it were lost or stolen or broken. I especially like the variable boost function and the overall ease of use. It's right there when I need it, and it's not when I don't. Over the years, I've had amps blow up, speakers burn out, cords short out, fuses blow, frets wear out, tubes fry, you name it. I can now add wearing out a wah-wah to my resume.

It's a Wah... How hard can it be? Just read the few lines about the two controllers on the left side and the button on the right, and youre in!

Sound Quality : 9
Ibanez rg 560 to wah to delay to amp.(Marshall or Peavey practice amp.) It sound great no matter what! Its just what I need! And I must have tested at least 10 other types before i found myself content with this one. Its absolutely marvellous that you can vary the amount of "wah" with one of the pots!( I always have it on full) This way you get everything from subtle changes to extreme quacking and wailing! The volume boost is great to have also, since I feel that i need a few dB extra when using the wah. This is because i find the wah signal a bit quiet in the lower freq. area. when the heel is almost pressed all the way down. I can get That wailing Kirk Hammet sound with this. Although, its not that easy to obtain Jimi Hendrix sounds. The noise I have not noticed.

Reliability : 9
Dependable and solid. Although I tend to worry about dust, moisture, and the loosening of screws, and that the spring will slacken. I use it without a backup.

I play experimental melodic hard rock. I use it much, and with great results. Great match! I would certainly want to replace it if it were stolen, but I think that its a bit to expensive. I would have to think twice. I love everything, its a great wah! Some would argue that the auto-off function is a drawback, but it just takes a little while to getting accustomed to it. I think its great, I can finally choose to only use it on single notes in the middle of a song without worrying that I wont be able to turn it off. And if you want to use it as a filter, just put something in between the unit and the pedal.

Yes, using this pedal, as with all wah-wah pedals, requires no explaination. So simple even an "idiot" could use it. In fact, only an idiot would.

Voila! Wala Wala walnuts are served!

Sound Quality : 1
The only way this pedal could be considered "perfectly quiet" would be if the user has spent too many years in front of loud amplification and said user's hearing is a bit shot.

Reliability : No Opinion
I've heard a story where, for some reason, after a gig, someone threw their 95Q against a wall and after that, it still worked. First, I know the reason. Second, I believe the fact that it continued to work cannot be considered a plus.

Customer Support : No Opinion
I also hear that one can have adjusted the annoying delay which occurs when trying to turn the pedal on. All one has to do is incur the cost of shipping the pedal to the manufacturer. This begs the question: Why wasn't this properly adjusted before it was put on the shelf to be sold?

Man what an easy Wah to play. It has great sweep range and unlike the idiot before me this thing has a tremendous amount of Wah range. I have used mine now for over a year and knew exactly how to operate it when I took it out of the box. What is not to understand? After you plug the pedal in you step on the rocker top and Wala you have Wah action. Do not understand how the idiot (who posted before me) could not understand the ease of use of this pedal. By the way the side "Q" and Volume controls add more depth to you sound.

Sound Quality : 10
This thing is perfectly quiet for my use. I feel it is much quieter than the standard Crybaby (I would know I own 2 of them)

Reliability : 10
Had it for over a year and play with it 5 out of 7 days each week with no problems. I have a friend who got drunk one night after a gig and for some reason picked up his 95Q and threw it. It hit the wall and bounced off the floor and other than some minor scratches to the the pedal worked perfectly for him the next day. Can you say built like a TANK?

Customer Support : 10
Dunlop is cool! Shortly after buying my 95Q I found out that it could be modified to lessen the delay feature on it I called the company spoke to one of the Techs and they told me if I send the pedal in at my cost the would do the modification and send the pedal back to me for FREE. It took 2 weeks but it was well worth the wait. Over the years I have owned pedal from Boss, DOD, Roland and even DanElectro and have never received this kind of customer support from any of these Companies. Dunlop Rules!!!!

I have been playing music now for 15 years. In fact it is my job and I would have to rate this pedal as one of the best I have ever owned. I do not do digital so I have no comment on that CRAP! But this is the only Wah pedal on my board. If it last as long as my 2 Crybaby's (5 and 6 years) I will be extremely happy.

Wah Wah What's To Tell?

Sound Quality : 1
'62 reissue Strat, Fender Pro Reverb, Boss DD2...

A Wah Wah Pedal which doesn't actually go wah...
Despite the fact that this wah has a "variable Q" adjustment (sweep adjustment for bass/treble range), it seems to reach no extreme on either end. This wah just doesn't talk. As I have said before, no wah to be had here.

Instead of an off/on switch, the effect is turned off when pedal is in up (bass) position. As it is , the pedal doesn't have much bottom end and one is prone to avoid bringing the pedal to the uppermost sweep (most bass) in order to avoid turning it off (even though there is some sort of "turn-off" delay built in which is supposed to keep this from happening). Maybe someone can tell me if one can adjust the treadle on the pot (to change sweep range) or does this method of turning the wah on and off negate that option?

This pedal has a boost switch and knob to adjust the amount of boost (accomodating for drop in signal when wah is on) but, who cares? Why bother boosting its pathetic effect?

Reliability : No Opinion
Haven't had it long enough to tell. Seems sturdy. Will probably continue putting out its anemic performance for someone's lifetime.

Why bother? Just throw it in the trash.

this pedal takes a bit of getting used to. the switchless feature is really a spring loaded wah that when you take your foot off it and the wah stayes in the bass position for more than a second it turns off. this spring loaded part takes a bit of getting used to as i said but when your used to it its really great. the Q and volume boost knobs should be on the other side and should be bigger and be able to push in when set. they are too small and are between another pedal so its hard to change while still pluged in. the Q control however is very useful to find the perfect wah sound. the volume boost is great too. the boost button is easy to turn on and off i just give it a tap with the side of my foot.

Sound Quality : 10
i use a epi lp custom going into the 95Q then into a digitech rp100 then into a boss overdrive (which i never use together) and into a marshall valvestate 20 watt amp. the pedal is never really noisy but if you leave it in certain positions for a bit you can control your feedback which is pretty cool. i have the most fun with this pedal with the volume boost and the Q dial all the way up in a clean setting. it overdrives my amp very nicely and it gets that 60's sound down good. turn on some overdrive and turn down the boost and you've got some instant jimi. scoop out the mids and you've got hammett. turn the Q dial all the way down and you've got zakk. its pretty easy to find a good sound once you get used to the spring loaded part but i would rather have the spring than button off switch. another thing you'd have to get used to is when its rocked in the bass position you have to be carefull that it doesn't turn off. you eventually find the spot where it will turn off and avoid it. if your going back and forth between bass and treble you don't have to worry cause theres a bit of delay so you can go all the way back to the bass without it turning off on ya.

Reliability : 10
it's built like a tank so its not going to break on me. the only thing that could go wrong is the electronics but as long as you don't play guitar underwater you should be fine.

Overall Rating : 10
i play anything from blues to metal and anything in between. i am big on metallica so i wanted an adjustable pedal to cover various styles and the 95Q does just that. it nails kirks sound pretty close to jimi but i use a les paul so maybe it would be closer if i had a strat. i've been playing for 3 years and i'm pretty much self taught. if i could change anything it would be the Q and volume knobs. they are too small and badly placed cause most people use the wah as there first pedal leaving the knobs in between pedals (if you use more than one). if i lost it i'd maybe get the 535Q or the dime but i like the switchless feature so i dont know. my dream wah would be the 535Q with all knobs on the right side with the switchless feature. but i dont live in a perfect world so the 95Q suits me just fine. it also doesn't suck your tone, well i haven't noticed anything with my setup. overall great pedal, i love it.

This pedal is very ease to use ecxept switching to Q-mode might be difficult in live performance.

Sound Quality : 10
In the efects rig, wah should be first pedal, then it kicks ass.
In the Q-mode, pressing the pedal, gives you a litle db boost and it doesn't make ugly noise.
You can use it with every amp (from Vintage combos to big Stacks)
Using 95Q with hard distortion and delay, then it sounds like a 'Tallica, but when you use a smooth fuzz and reverb, tehn it's Hendrix time.

Like said before, the knobs are too small, sensitive and you must turn the pedal upside down to know what they are... someone at Dunlop doesn't seem to be so smart... I had to label the knobs and mark the best settings so I could see them more easily. Apart of that, it couldn't be easier, just plug and play.

Sound Quality : 9
I have 2 Gibsons and 1 Strat, through a Digitech 2101, a Line 6 Filter pro, to 1 Marshall JCM2000 DSL100. Is it noisy? Well, I can listen to FM with it, and it seems that it's a common defect to all Crybabys. I had a Vox 847 and it never happened. And it's in their website that you can try a lot of things to fix it, but if after all the noise is still there, too bad for you...
But the sound is GREAT. The switchless thing is GREAT. The boost is GREAT. I love the fact that I don't need to step hard to turn it on, so in the middle of a lick the wah is on, or in the midlle of a riff, things that I wouldn't do if it had a switch. Once you get used to the time it turns off, you use it and you know exactly when it goes away. I always hated to turn the wah on and it's at the treble side, making your guitar scream. So the 95Q starts at the bass side, to me much more natural. And the boost - other Crybabys lose a LOT of signal when you turn it on - there you are, going to a solo with wah, you switch it on and you volume DROPS... the boost is there to correct this, and it's great for it. A friend of mine has the original crybaby, and when he saw my 95Q he wanted to throw his in the trash. The Q knob is great too, mellower sounds available, and I use it a lot too.

Reliability : 6
Well, it just broke, after 1 1/2 year, sounds like I have a bad cable, distorting the signal even at bypass mode. I will fix it, it's a simple circuit. I don't have a backup, while I can't play with it I can use the wah in the Digitech (yeah it's bad, what can I do?). But I really need it, I did some recordings with it that I can't.replicate with other wah.

Ease of use? depends on your taste, if you have none its easy to use, just plug it in and go. To get a usable tone out of this thing is tedius the extra knobs are very sensative and they are so small you cant hardly see them let alone tell how they are set, and if you haul this pedal from show to show the knobs are knocked out of position and must be reset every time, and you can only do this by ear as they are so sensitave to the slightest movement, visually you cant even get it in the ballpark. The boost button is ok as long as you dont have another pedal on the right side blocking acess to it. "The automatic switch" well it sounded like a good idea to till I actually herd the results.

The only good improvement this product has over a 35 year old Italian wah is the easy acess battery door, and the power jack. For these two reasons alone I will give it a 2 for ease of use.

Sound Quality : 3
I will get straight to the point this pedal does not sound good because of 1 main reason, the automatic switch. Law #1 when a wah kicks in it should kickin on the treble stroke PERIOD... When you start down with this pedal the signal drops out of sight, because low frequency's dont cut through the mix, and that is exactly where you are when you start down with it. Now take into consideration the delay time,,, and your really screwed this thing weights untill your half way done with the intro to voodoo chile before it decides to let some wah out. Also if you rock back on it for a 1/2 second it will shut off on you, so there is you another hassel to deal with. DONT BUY THIS PEDAL if you require a Hendrix, Trower, WhiteRoom kinda sound.

ALSO: Who wants a wah pedal that cant be left half cocked {notched} if you find the "SWEET SPOT" and take your foot off of this pedal it raises itself up and turns off. This is another bi product of the "switchless" design.

That said once you get this thing going it can get some decent wah with a good throaty tone.

The boost is decent, but it is not necessary if you have a good overdrive pedal to boost a regular wah with.

Reliability : 10

I have been playing for 25 years and playing gigs since 1986. I play blues bassed rock. I use old JMP Marshall 50/w heads through old basket weave cabinets and they are very dynamicly sensative to what goes into them, and a pedal that takes some of that away is of no use to me. I have used an Italian wah for many years, now it's wore out the pot's scratchy and the pin is loose. [this is what I was trying to replace] The new 95q crybaby didnt come close!

"HOWEVER" I did buy a Vox reissue and modded it with true bypass and the clyde brown mod, THIS GETS AS CLOSE AS YOU CAN GET TO A VINTAGE WAH PERIOD... not to wild not to lame ~Just rite~

Now! if crybaby left a regular on/off switch in this unit and put the Q and volume adjustment nobs inside the pedal where they wouldnt get bumped out of adj all the time it would probably be an ok pedal.

Very easy...just wah. There's three smaller knobs but you get the hang of what they do real easy--I never remember which is which anyways, I just set them to where the sound good. The switchless feature is awesome; one of the real reasons I bought this pedal. Just so you know if you rock all the way back then it will cut off, but it's easy to feel that out.

Sound Quality : 8
This baby sounds awesome. There's really two kinds of wah-players--classic ones who do Hendrix et. al. and then modern ones who like to use it w/ a lot of leads and dirt and stuff; this wah does it for both parties. It's the straight Crybaby sound that you can shape and customize at will. Looking for that really subtle harmonic-shifting rocking that will just make your leads and solos jump out? You can just dial in for that. Going for the Shaft "wicca wicca" sound? That's also easy. I compared this with a bunch of other wahs (Morley, Vox, other Dunlop)...it just blew them away.

I don't know how common this is, but if I leave the pedal on full-on forward position with my amp turned up a ways, it will give you high screeching feedback really easily--There's some harmonic up there that the wah's filter doesn't cut out. There's also a slight delay when coming out of the effect but it's not more time than it would take to switch off one of the original toe-switch models.

Haven't had it long enough to comment on long-term prospects.

This pedal is extremely easy to use. Its switchless, so you just need to put your foot on it to activate. The Variable Q dial is pretty simple, and the volume is also straightforward. The boost switch on the side can sometimes be bumped, and will radically alter your tone if you hit it.

Sound Quality : 9
I run a Squier Strat through the wah, then through an Ibanez TS-9 Tubescreamer reissue, and then to a Fender Deluxe 90 amp. I think that it sounds a lot better when I run the wah before the overdrive. I play hard rock, alternative, blues, and a little punk, and this wah is extremely versatile. It gives a great reproduction of Hendrix's sound on Voodoo Chile, and it can also reproduce a White Room Clapton like tone. I don't like the boost switch at all, it adds a little overdrive to your sound, but it boosts the treble so much that it makes me cringe. Luckily, you don't have to use the boost switch, so thats not that big of an issue.

Reliability : 9
I have had this pedal for almost one year, and it has worked fine. The fact that its switchless made me a little nervous at first, because I was worried that it would just stop working, but the pedal has proven me wrong. The battery has a tendency to run out without any warning, so I would recommend using a power supply system to insure that the battery will not run out, because if it does, your signal will not get to the amp at all.

It is a very versaltile pedal, it should cover most wah applications that someone would need. One important thing you should know is that this thing sounds like crap without any reverb, so if you don't have any reverb in your sound, I recommend that you try it out without any reverb on and see if you like the sound. Email me and tell me what you think about the pedal.

Simple. Two Cords: 1 from your guitar to the Crybaby, 1 from the Crybaby to your amp (don't forget the 9V in the pedal..via a convenient battery access door...no more unscrewing the whole bottom). Turn the amp on and step on it...that's it. If you want to mess around, there's a Q control (depth of Wah) and a 0-15db volume boost control on the left and a kick-type switch on the right which either enables or disable the boost (which only kicks-in when the effect is on). You turn on the effect by pressing on the pedal (which is spring-loaded and returns automatically to the heel-down position). The effect automatically shuts off 1/2 second after you release the pedal (or if you hold it in the heel-down position).

Sound Quality : 10
Pretty great wah sound. However, the boost tends to muddy things up a bit...I don't use it. It might be handy if you want to squeeze a little more gain out of a not-so-high-gain amp or patch. I run my CyberTwin pretty hot in the preamp, so this feature does nothing for me. But its a Crybaby and it sounds like one...very good quality...and extremely quiet. On-off switching is hardly even noticeable...you really have to listen for it.

What a great live pedal. Auto on-off and great sound. The only thing you compromise is that if you like to leave the pedal half-cocked...you won't be able to do it on this one (because of the spring-loaded return). Also, you won't be able to get the effect in the heel-down position because that's the position that shuts the effect off. However, the switchless convenience is a worth-while tradeoff, and being able to dial in the Q is a great feature. Awesome product, and well worth the extra money over the original Crybaby.

Sounds excellent - the size of the wah sweep can be adjusted over a wide range using the Q control, which I am sure will accomodate most people's requirements. Can sound quite aggressive, in fact I think the mildest setting may be a little too wide for some. As for noise level, it is as silent you can ask for in an effect; at most all you hear is a soft hiss even with the amp at high volumes. The supposed boost switch doesn't help much really, just makes the sound rather fuzzy, in any case I see little need for a signal boost with this pedal. The auto off feature is an excellent touch and sends the pedal seamlessly into bypass mode when the cradle (spring loaded, by the way) returns to its rest position. An intentional delay is added so you can use the whole sweep range while wahing, without it turning off every time it reaches that position.

Reliability : 8
The ~1kg steel casing is very heavily built and the plug sockets and moving parts are solidly set into it, though the 2 control knobs do move a little. In any case, they're quite small and are quite unlikely to break. I would easily use this on a gig with no backup. Mine is quite new though, so not having really put it to the test yet I can't give it a 10.

Never dealt with them before

Overall, I'd say it's an excellent pedal though I think I may have overpaid for it a little. It's spring loaded cradle with auto-off and the fact it uses only 1 battery are excellent features that the 535Q lacks, though if you want sheer versatility just get that. The sound quality is excellent - about as good as you can get, really. With the regular, somewhat risky crybaby leaving you with no option to shape the sound, I'd say this pedal is the best compromise between features and price; you can't go wrong buying it.

I don't think you could get a bad sound if you have a decent rig. The adjustments are pretty simple..there's two knobs that are labeled on the bottom of the pedal...unless you illiterate..no problems. There is a manual..and it just repeats the obvious. No mods and none are needed. The knobs need to be bigger though, they are a pain in the ass to adjust, especially while playing. It's solid for one sound at a time...that's for sure. The tiny controls are my only complaint. I would personally like to thank Dunlop for making the 9-volt accessable from a door instead of unscrewing all the screws...I love it!

I'm still using a Samick SG, Amer. Std. Strat, and Jackson USA dinky reverse, now they have a nice Hughes and Kettner combo to go through. I have no trouble with noise and the switch on or off is suprisingly very quiet, the only thing that changes is your tone..there is no "snap", "crackle" or "click" when the wah engauges or disengauges, but there is boost which can be turned on or off on the fly. The "Q" dial is really like an EQ for highs...when all the way up you get a Tom Morello like "QAUCK" and when it's rolled back it's nice and mellow for playing underlying tracks like the eletric parts of "what it's like" by everlast or "It's time to move on" by Petty. It's very flexible play wise, but you won't reallly notice the difference if you just turn the "Q" dial if your rocking the thing back and forth while playing. I'm using a Hughes & Kettner 100watt combo and a Marshall guv'nor(the original). While the highs can get crackly but that's the guv'nor not the wah, just a treble knob that I never bother to turn down,(I keep it nice and crunchy for Master of Puppets and Cemetery Gates, then use the lead on my amp for the solos). I can sound like Dime, Tom and Kirk, and close enough to KWS..what more could I ask for??

Reliability : 10
It's made by Dunlop....need I say more? I will be buried with this thing, nevermind a gig or two.

I have already owned a JD pedal, it was 4 years old when I got it, then I traded it a year later, never had a single problem, never known anyoe who's had a problem with a JD pedal either. I just didn't like the fuzz distortion or the octave wah(wish I still had it now that I've matured musically).

Overall Rating : 10
I play the typical stuff...metal, rock, blues..and on and on. I have no problems at all with finding a beauty tone for any style. If you want a flexbable wah get one of these they are great, not only does it have the Q dial, and adjustable volume boost but it's also switchless!!! For a measly 100$ you'll be in searching a long time to find a better deal. I even paid for the thing in Canadian funds and think it's a steal. If lost i'd get another one ASAP, My favorite feature would have to be a toss up between it being switchless and the "Q" dial. The volume boost is just a nice add on( which I was happy to see was only 10$ more). I would have compaired products...but really, what is there? I own a Morley Vol/wah...it's nothing compaired to this pedal. I wish it had a nice LEAD distortion on it..but that would make it perfect.

how simple is this. a wah pedal with an autoswitch. step down and wah. the autoswitch has an interesting feature, a half-second delay between from when you take your foot off the pedal and the time it shuts off. lets you use the bass side of the sweep. a little annoying if you want it to shut off immediately but otherwise i can live with it. kickswitch on the side for the volume boost and a knob for the Q(adjusts the wah response-goes from barely there to screaming, almost says wow) and another for the amount of volume boost (from none to about 15db). simple as hell.

Sound Quality : 9
sounds like a crybaby. a cross between a 535Q and a regular crybaby. the best of both worlds. if you like crybaby's this is for you. i cant hear any tone being sucked out of my setup with it. setup is dime333w/emg's>wah>5150. the Q knob can get pretty extreme at the full on position, just the way i like it. sure other wah pedals sound better but i cant justify spending near $300 on a fulltone or a tesse when i can have the local electronics god mod it for me and get the same sound. does seem to get a little crackly when the pedal is toe down and i'm hitting some high notes. and it gets a hiss when the boost if maxed out but that cant be heard if you're playing. but thats all i've found so far.

Reliability : No Opinion
there's an interesting story that goes with this. i had the local electronics god order this for me (not only does he rebuild and mod any type of guitar, bass, or p.a. gear you can come up with he gives a hellacious discount on the stuff he sells) and the first on he got wouldnt wah. i stepped on it and i heard the effect kick on, but no wah. took my foot off and heard the effect kick off. the only way i could get a wah sound out of it was to turn the Q knob while holding the effect on. so it got sent back to the wholesaler. the next one came in and lo and behold it worked. and sounded good. if history is any indication though, my last crybaby lasted me several years til i got my power supplies mixed up and fried it. this one should last me a good while.

Customer Support : No Opinion
cant say. the first one was sent back to the wholesaler so i cant really say. but thats the big advantage of having a good dealer around. he took care of that for me and was kinda upset that that firstone didnt work. i doubt i could have got another one in 3 days from musicians friend.

Overall Rating : 9
if you play any type of rock music a wah is almost a necessity. i like the autoswitch on this one, my other crybaby was almost impossible to turn on while sitting. i just compared it to a 535Q, and i got this one because it only takes 1 battery(9 volts are fucking expensive these days), and the fewer knobs i have to deal with the better. good pedal if you like a crybaby. kinda expensive for a wah if you pay the guitar center price ($135) but musicians friend has them cheaper and somebody that does good business will at least match that. and if you live in the north alabama area go to Guntersville and find Dixie Soundworks. John can give you a hookup like nobody else.

a very pro unit, designed for live use and it works great.

The design / functionality: They have got this sooooo right, I wish I had this design of a wah back in the 70s when I really needed it. ...oops, am I revealing my age here? :-o

Once you get one of these underfoot you will morph into Kirk Hammet....for 2 reasons:
- it does a great job of sounding like him,
- you'll enjoy the pedal so much you won't be able to quit using it, just like Kirk! :-D

Does the Betty Ford clinic have a section for wah addicts? I'm becoming one after this pedal,
it's just so easy to work, and to jump in and out of wah at the slightest moment with no worry whatsoever of *not* switching it on or *leaving* it on once you go back to rhythm (oh I hate that). And you can simply stomp it briefly during a rhythm part to add a little spice to a note or chord, man that is fun and you could never do that with almost any other wah pedal.

For soloing I've found I always want that boost on, and at its max of 15db increase.

I guess for rhythm playing (ie: "Fame" by Bowie, or the theme song to "Shaft" :) ) you may not want the boost on. So far I only use wah for solos or little leads here and there so I'm considering hard-wiring my boost always on and removing the little red metal pushbutton. It's good though that the red pushbutton automatically shows you whether the boost is on or off without the need for a led. The leds location on the 535 is useless! you'll never see them.

The only negs (negatives):

Neg1:
this is really NOT any neg for live at all, but for studio use if you want the benefit of the Q (and Q is an extremely useful feature), then you may want to be using the 535Q model instead of this 95Q.

The studio-recording-neg of using this 95Q model is how the effect switches off when you stop pressing on the pedal, it is an audible switch. Although it is fairly smooth and does not make any pop or click, it's definitely there. Also there is a momentary delay for it to switch off, so for studio-precision-timing this may be a problem; but then again in a studio you'd probably be punching-in the wah track so that may be no prob at all for you.

Neg2:
this is a very minor one and it doesn't bother me at all, but since this is a review to help folks who haven't yet had a chance to try it out or (if you're in my situation your local stores suck) who may be buying it online without trying it out, so I think it should be mentioned:

the most subtle setting of the Q (widest Q, turning the knob all the way counter-clockwise) is really not that subtle, it's maybe a little bit less extreme than a standard crybaby but it's still a very audible wah tone. If you were wanting to use just a very slight wah to spruce up a rhythm track this least-wah setting may still be too much wah.

A NOTE about the new QZ1 Q-zone pedal, which is a stompbox that has a fixable wah setting: Excellent idea this box is and I've wanted this functionality for years; the old Peavey Renown amp had this in the way of a phase shifter that you could set at any given point in the cycle by pulling it's knob out. However, before you go pay for one of these QZ1s consider if you have a preamp/processor that can already do this. I have the Digitech 2112 and that box does every single thing I need except for one thing: a good wah pedal. It has a feature-rich wah effect but the optical pedal just doesn't translate the data fast enough for good pedal action, and you get more on/off wah instead of good modulated wah. HOWEVER, the stationary wah sound the 2112 can produce is excellent and it has many many parameters you can set. So, if you have a preamp/processor you might want to see if it can do the same for you as the QZ1 and save yourself $89. Other than that I think the QZ1 is a great idea and we needed it 3 decades ago just like this new 95Q.

Sound Quality : 9
Excellent. If you like the crybaby sound you'll like this, I've owned the GCB95, the 535(NotQ), and now this one; I like this 95Q best, I'm selling my 535, and I'll keep my GCB95 around as a backup plus it wouldn't fetch enough money to be worth selling.

I rate its sound a 9 not 10 only because I have heard slightly better sounding wahs on pro recordings and I don't know what they were using, but I think this is all I'll need.

Reliability : 10
I've owned several crybaby's, sold them to friends, etc., have never had one fail yet including the ones my friends still own.

Their website has a cool FAQ sheet about troubleshooting and I quickly found a friend's problem. His was missing the rubber footpad so I glued on a substitute which did not specify input and output; one day he plugged it in backwards and got a high pitch squeal. From his telling me the problem over the phone I found the solution on the Dunlop website; plug it in correctly, it worked fine again.
"operator error" :-).

Their website also has sample sound files and information on how the different wah pedals' features are set up. Excellent little resource.

Never had to call the company, but I emailed them for catalogs and whatnot and they sent me all the cool info I needed! 2 thumbs up.

Overall Rating : 10
*additional comment, I didn't realize until just now the 105Q bass crybaby sounds like it has the same features as this 95Q; so you may want to read those reviews for various opinions on functionality and reliability of the buttons/switches/etc.

I've only owned this a week but I've owned other crybaby's for years and I'm totally happy with this unit, it's the most functional / useful crybaby I've ever had. I'm glad they didn't overprice it like the 535 and 535Q models. The standard crybaby is a great buy but for the extra features I highly recommend you try out the 95Q.
