Okay, first the plastic battery holder broke only a few weeks after buying the thing. Then the thing started not turning on/off every time (I had to step on it twice or more). Finally two very strange things happened at the same time: the pedal part (bent?) so that I couldn't hit the switch without using my hand and then the thing just stopped working. I've kicked myself in the head ever since for not filling out the warranty.

It was an okay wah, worth the money I guess. I think the Vox wahs may sound about the same but look a lot cooler. I wouldn't recommend this device.

I run Gibson and Epiphone SGs into a Boss EQ pedal, the Crybaby and finally into a Crate GFX212. I can get a pretty close approximation of Kirk Hammett's lead tone with it, which is all I'm going for. I play metal and more metal, and I use it on almost all of my solos. It doesn't mesh so well with my amp's distortion, but it's good enough. The only time I've had noise problems with it is when I'm using high gain and not playing anything with the pedal in treble position. I had a few problems with harmonics, but the EQ does a good job at fixing that.

It's rock solid. I've kicked it, dropped it, thrown it around, dropped stuff on it, and it works fine. Only problem is very rarely, it won't switch all the way and will cut my sound, but that's very rare and another hit on the switch fixes it.

I've had this pedal for a year and a half and it works fine for me. I can get a good metal lead wah sound, and I really don't use it for much other than leads. If it were stolen, I would check out a 535Q or Dunlop's rack wah, but I don't have anything against this. The other guitarist in my band had one, but the pedal got really loose and he just bought a Vox, which, in my opinion, is only slightly better than this. I could have paid $5 less at Daddy's but I decided to support the little stores instead. Good pedal for the money. I would NEVER get a wah pedal of lesser quality than this.

I play an Amer. Strat with stock setup > Crybaby > Marshall 602 60W combo with Danelectro chorus and echo pedals in the effects loop. Every now and then I throw in a Fuzz Face or Big Muff after the Crybaby. I always thought that it sounded better in front of distortion not behind it. This pedal and the Vox are the standards for classic wah. Hendrix and Clapton used both. I never use it on the clean channel, only for overdrive. If you want a Clapton sound, crank the gain on your amp to 10 and find the sweet spot of the Crybaby (about 1/2 way back) and turn down the tone of your guitar. Every good rock guitarist uses a wah pedal. You cannot wail without a Crybaby.

Gets pretty muddy and toneless at the bottom end, but that could be because its signal has declined over time (see below). The high end has never been too shrill or trebely, though. When I first bought the pedal, I would have rated it at 9. I liked it better than the most recent Vox wah at the time.

After three years of playing casually, jamming with friends, etc., it seems like there's a dead spot in the middle of the sweep. The quality/clarity of the bottom end has also gone south. It's been maintained well; I've only ever opened it to clean it with a swab (never use batteries, only AC adapter). A friend who has owned a Crybaby for a couple of years told me he has had similar problems. Maybe it's just the typical lifespan of the reissues.

I play a reissue Fender Mustang, to the Crybaby, Rat2, Boss DS-1, Boss CS-2, EHX Small Stone, EHX Small Clone, Fender practice amp. This Wah doesnt seem to suck up any tone from my guitar at all. The Wah sounds pretty good, nothing spectacular. You can get a great Voodoo Child sound out of it, since Jimi did use a Crybaby. It sounds great with a little Rat2 distortion, but sounds really scratchy when I use my DS-1. I have my DS-1 up really loud, so it's not too graet with the Crybaby. I usually have my CS-2 on to smooth out my clean tones, to the Crybaby sounds great with it on.

Crybaby's are built great! As an added bonus, my model (a newer one) has a tab so you don't have to unscrew the bottom of this unit to get to the battery. It's made of solid steel and hard rubber. This thing will last a life time. Just keep it somewhat clean so your sound doesn't get too scratchy.

As my friend told when "every guitarist needs a wah to mess around with!" its so true! if you can get ahold of any wah for cheap go for it, even if you're a new guitarist or a pro. they are so much fun, and crybaby's are great! They are fairly cheap, even new! I have been playing for over 5 years, and this was my first wah pedal. I am very happy with it. If it were stolen, I'd definately get a new one.

I'm mainly a keyboard player so I use this with my Fender Rhodes and Hohner Clavinet. The Rhodes is plugged into an old Fender bass amp and the Clavinet goes directly to the mixing desk. I get amazing sound out of both, but at gigs I use it with the Clavi, cause it sounds shit without a wah! Our guitar player has the Jimi Hendrix JH-1 which he claims is much better with his Strat, but with keyboards I find that the JH-1 tends to mute the sound too much after about halway down.
I've also tried it with my Ibanez Axstar bass and I found the result quite impressive.
Use to produce a lot of hiss before I changed the factory treble setting.

I play mainly jazz/funk and I find this pedal to be perfectly suited to the lo-fi sound I'm trying to get. I tend to use a lot of guitar effects (delay, envelope filter, overdrive, phaser) with my keyboard rig, but the Crybaby has become a mainstay. If it was stolen I'd go to my bass player's house and beat him on the head until he gave it back. At the time I bought it because it was the only wah-wah i'd tried out, but I've come to love it. I've heard good things about ther Vox wah-wah, but for the time being I'm more than satisfied. A tone control would be a nice touch...

Any wah-wah is simple to use, yet very difficult (it's kind of zen). While there's nothing more to this pedal than on/off and rocking your foot back and forth for treble/bass, it's almost an entire instrument unto itself because of the subtleties involved.
Sound Quality

My setup is Fender Strat w/Texas Specials -> Tubescreamer -> Big Muff -> Crybaby -> Fender Amp. It seems really important to have the Crybaby last in your effects chain. Otherwise, it sounds...well, bad. And my fuzz completely cloaks my wah if I put the wah first. In this order, it sounds fine.
It kind of gets hissy all the way forward and pretty muddy all the way back, but in the middle in sounds great. The extreme ends of the wah's range are still useful for playing funk and old porno music (boom chick-a WAH WAHHHH!).
I'm pretty sure that Jimi Hendrix used this wah. In fact, I'm pretty sure that most professional guitarists use either a Crybaby or a Vox wah-wah.

This is not as well built as my other pedals (Tubescreamer, Big Muff, and a veritable legion of BOSS and DOD pedals). I've had it 4 or 5 years, and it still works, but it's starting to get a little crackly, and I have to fiddle with the input jack sometimes to stop the sound from cutting out completely. It has an AC adaptor, which is strongly recommended because you have to take the whole bottom plate off to change batteries.

The wah-wah is probably the only effect pedal that is pretty much universally respected by all guitarists. No matter what style of electric guitar you play, the majority of artists in that genre probably use a wah-wah.
If it broke or got lost, I'd certainly get another wah-wah, but I'd probably compare the Crybaby to Dunlop's higher-end models and the Vox. However, I seem to remember the Crybaby sounding the best out of all the other wah-wah's when I bought it the first time, so odds are I'd buy it again. It's a good value for the price.

I play a '99 Fender American Deluxe Strat -> Crybaby -> TS-9 Reissue -> Tech 21 Comptortion -> Way Huge Aqua Puss -> '65 Fender Twin Reissue. Its noisey when on of course, how much depends on where it is in your signal chain and what other effects you are using with it. You can get that 'wind' noise out of it easily by putting it before an overdrive. It does effect your tone a bit even when its off, but its not overly noticable. Its a fairly weak wah in my opinion, but you can get useable sounds out of it.

I have had a few of these, the pots and the switchs tend to die, and their battery life is very poor, get an ac adapter and save money. I plan on upgrading to a fulltone or a teese shortly. Its really frustrating at times because sometimes the switch doesnt work when it should so you have to be constantly worried if its on or off, it makes a audible pop when switched on as well.

In combination with other effects you can get alot of neat sounds out of it. There are much better wahs out there, this one just seems to be the standard.

Incredibly easy, once I figured out how to turn the thing on and off it was great. And for those of you who complain that there isn't a light to tell if it's on or not then maybe you should have your hearing checked to turn your distortion down. The manual is pretty lame but if you bought one of these things you shouldn't need to consult the manual for anything.

I play an Epiphone Supernova and put the pedal after my two tube screamers, a TS-9 and TS-10, and then run it into a Ross Compressor, a Rapco A/B box and then into my Fender '65 Deluxe Reverb. I play a lot Phish and similar music if you couldn't tell. It's a bit noisy when I turn it on but I blame that on my compressor and when I crank the screamers it tends to cause the amp to howl and gives me some nasty feedback, but that's okay because I don't play many songs which require the screamers to be on while using the wah. It does have a really bright tone when rocked all the way forward but once you get use to it it's a fun toy to add a new dimension to your sound. It's also great for creating old fashioned porno movie music.

It's great for when you want to get funky or you're the only guy in drum circle that brought his guitar instead of his drum. I recommend it for anyone who has hit a wall with where they want to go with their sound. I use to be a straight player, no effects, only slight distortion and minimal funkiness. It has definitely allowed me to go different places while jamming or just holding a funky rhythm.

using a standard strat into a guvner distortion into crybaby into fender twin reverb. also use other effects but it doesn't matter here.
i find the effect thin and lacking in depth. the scope between bass and treble is kinda narrow. the only way you can get a half decent response is by running through fuzz or dist first, which is obvious to say but i'd prefer a wah that can latch onto the signal without something to beef it up first.

i swiped this from someone i don't like and i'll probably just leave it in his mailbox one day with a note saying sorry. i won't bother getting another wah pedal mainly because i associate them with the blues which bya nd large sounds passe and naff these days (i wonder if this will make me any enemies). the way zeppelin and hendrix played the blues is being lost and/or imitated and i won't have a part of it. anyway, this pedal is no longer functional (admittedly, a new pot would probably fix it) but it frustrated me just as much when it was working, so.... if anything beats this it's the vox wah (looks cool, sounds fatter).

As easy as using any wah. Some have had problems with switching the thing on/off. When I first got this pedal, bought it used, I experienced the same as so many others. No matter how hard I pushed it seemed like the pedals own will was stronger than my foor. I adjusted the on/off swicth's hight and have had no trouble switching since. It's easier to get in by opening the door rather than going through the wall, take some time in adjusting your gear to your standards you'll find playing a lot easier. The adaptor get's disconnected quite easy and the lack of DC does not only take the wah sound off, but doesn't let any sound through the wah to the amp. This may create an interesting, artistic, acoustic turn.

Washburn N-4>crybaby>NS-2(TR-2,PQ-4 and SD-1 looped)>ME-5>Marshall 6100. This wah works really fine with the 6100's 2nd channels '45 and JCM 800 settings, the gain at about 5. I use the '45 and crybaby for playing Hendrix. The clean channel and crybaby adds up a funky wibe, great for 70's disco and Soul. With lower gain settings this thing works like a dream but as the gain increases the problems get bigger. The JCM 900 and LM channel with the crybaby sound pretty bad when using the neck pickup. The notes on the lower strings (E,A,D) get quite muddy and there's little separation whatsoever. If there's a lot of gain involved I use the neck pickup and this pedal mostly for adding depth to riffs or coloring tapping.
This pedal has very wide range, which is pleasing for expression and makes Crybaby versaitile. This coin has also a backside, when you switch the pedal on or off you have to sweep trough the treble boosted frequencies. If you have to change the wah sound quickly to something else a nasty squeek is performed to the audience. This happens to every wah pedal I've played but crybabys wide frequency range makes this problem worse.
You can get interesting intros by playing something with the pedal at treble positions and then switching it off.
Some tricks work some don't, one has to find out which he thinks do.

It is a top piece of euipment which I use sparingly, there is nothing to hate about it except they could've included the Q dial from the 535 model in the first place instead of having to cash in on bringing out inferior updates and reissues
It does it's job with no messin' around
Oh yeah, you can use this to play the SHAFT THEME TUNE

I use a US Strat to a Fender Twin or my vintage '62 Bluesbreaker (that's right...VINTAGE). It sounds kinda bad compared to the 535Q wah. The treble will damage eardrums while the bass well...uh...won't. The bass is terrible. I can't even explain it. Trust me, it sucks. I love Clapton and Hendrix...it is a sin to use this wah while playing any of their songs.

I have had my crybaby for about a year and I love it. You can really get a good sound out of it if you know what you are doing. For goodness sake everybody that says its to thin don't rock the pedal from one end to another. To get a good sound out of it find your tonal spot and just barely give it some rocking motion and you will see what I mean. I give it a nine just because I am not skilled enough to make it do what all it can.

I use a SG through a Marshall amp(valvestate). The only time I find it noisy is when I am standing right in front of the amp. Step back a few steps and the noisy thing is gone. I usually run the wah always with the disortion on. The crybaby is a classic wah pedal and as a matter of fact I believe that this same exact pedal happens to be Kirk Hammetts favorite wah pedal. I can get close to his wah sounds but I believe with some active pickups and a better sounding overdrive I would be a little bit closer. You can also get a good lead sound out of it if you throw some chorusing on it. Gives it a creamy kind of sound. Overall I think this pedal is very good. If you like wah get the classic, a crybaby.

I have been playing for over 2 years and right know I am fixing to get a Boss Metal Zone disortion pedal because my digitech Rp-6 distorion SUCKS!! My SG is fixing to get some EMG's. A emg81 in the brigde and emg85 in the neck. If it got stolen I would buy another one. I love everything about it. I hate the battery thing, and really I need to get a power supply for this thing. Like I said if you like Hendrix, Hammett, and Cantrell and like their wah-wah sounds you need a crybaby.

As there are numerous reviews of how to use it, I'll just mention what I've done to improve it's performance. When I got it, it was hard to switch on and off because of 2 rubber feet that protect the switch. I cut them off with a utility knife and now it switches like a dream--no more stomping up and down on it.
Sound Quality
:

The factory setting is very trebly, so I opened it up and rolled the pot back a little to give it a bit more of the middle chunky sound. I find it to be a bit thin and trebly anyway, I'd prefer something with a narrower range that I can set--maybe one of those RMC's.

Well, I've lost three of the rubber feet, which is a pain, and a capacitor fell out recently, although it was easy to re-install. I would consider losing a component to be pretty rare, but I know a lot of people who've lost those stupid feet.

I use it very rarely, if I needed a wah more I'd probably step up to something a bit thicker sounding, with a narrower range. If it were stolen, I'd probably go ahead and upgrade it. In its defense, I used to have a DOD Wah/Volume that made this look like the Holy Grail.

I find it hard to turn the damn thing on or off. you have to have a heavy foot to turn the switch on. it doesn't even have a light to tell you if it's on or not. Plus removing 3 of the rubber screws at the bottom of the pedal to access the battery is a bit of a hassle.

I'm using an electric guitar (an ugly model so i won't specify it.) with a Bill lawrence humbucker (the one Dimebag uses)and a Dimarzio PAF, I have a Roland cube 60, and I use a BOSS DS1 with the crybaby. The pedal sounds very very good on the high end (it squeezes your sound to the highest frequency possible!) and sounds real low on the low end...so low you couldn't actually hear the sound of your guitar. This combination of Super high and low frequencies gives this pedal a good and complete "WAH" sound. This pedal sounds cooler when playing the wahka-wahka sound (muting the strings). I suggest you play lotsa hendrix and clapton with this baby!
Reliability
:

The pedal uses a 100k potentiometer to generate the wah sound. unfortunately potentiometers wear out in time. you'll have to replace it and it wil cost you. Unlike digital expresion pedals, there are no moving parts. you gotta be a bit careful with this pedal coz of its potentiometer. although it has a sturdy case and it's kinda heavy so i think dropping it once or twice won't be a problem (don't try it though!).

the sound that you get from this thing is great especially when playing the "wahka-wahka" sound (mute the strings with your left hand and strum like hell!). play it with distortion and you still get that crying sound that everybody looks for in a wah. It's pretty reliable but i just don't like that it uses a potentiometer. that's what you get when using analog. Bottom line: great sound, just take care of it.

You step on the toe, you turn it on. Notice I said STEP on it; it won't work if you're sitting down. Loses a couple of points because of this (but really, if you're playing a rock song with a bunch of wah, are you usually sitting down? Maybe if you're wheelchair bound).
Sound Quality

This is where this effect goes wrong for me. The tone is harsh and tinny at the high setting, and goes pretty quickly to low and sludgy at the low setting. There's really not too much midrange to this pedal. I play a Squier Strat with Texas Special pickups through this, a Danelectro FabTone, an Arion Stereo Chorus, and a Peavey Rage 158 (which I don't think exists anymore, and for good reason). I've played the same pedal setup with other amps, including a Fender Roc-Pro, and had the same tonal problems with it. I read an article somewhere that a number of artists have had pressure pads put on the footrest, so that it turns on whenever they're standing on it, and this seems to me like the better deal.
By the way, for my two cents on the distortion/wah placement thing--my distortion WILL NOT WORK set before the wah. I don't know if this is a problem with the wah or the distortion, but it's going to be a factor when I shop for the next wah.
I will give it credit, however--for about three days, when the battery is fresh, it works like a charm. Beautiful sound, except for those really extreme high-low tones. I will try this with an AC Adapter before I chuck it out.

Never dealt with them, although I should try to get an upgrade (the thing still has the rubber-feet battery installation, and the circuitry is dirty with some gooey substance that was in there when I got it for greasing the mechanism--next time I get a pedal, I'm going to wipe it down on the inside).

I play blues, rock, prog, alternative, jazz--everything except country. I've been playing four years (three with this thing), and although I don't like the sound that much, I've never had a single problem with this pedal beyond that. If it were taken, I'd probably check out some of Dunlop's higher-end models (the 535Q comes highly recommended in a couple other reviews). If you're just starting out this is a good pedal to try; I've since learned some things and don't like it as much. The moral of the story is to shop around. My mother bought me this one after I told her I wanted it, but I didn't check it out first. Well, I was fifteen at the time, so I wasn't exactly wise in the ways of wah. If you play mostly clean funk, this is a definite match for you. If you're searching for some rockier wah sounds (i.e. Hendrix, Hammett, etc.) try some other, higher-end models first.

I've found this wah to be very easy to use, apart from the switch, which needs to be pushed real hard to turn on/off. Some people complain that the wah is too insensitive to the amount of rocking you have to do with your foot. But what these people don't think about is that in the above circumstance you can get the wah to do more things you want.(In between frequencies you can get great Kirk Hammett meets Carlos Santana screeches)

I mainly play rock and very sporadicaly metal and blues (Sabbath, Metallica). My setup is very cheap but very effective - Ibanez Tube Screamer/Crybaby/Boss Equalizer to a Leem 40W amp. Using an M-100 LTD ESP guitar. I must say the wah sounds shit(trebly) sometimes, but my Equalizer pedal fixes this.( People must remember this is the classic wah, it's all up to you.) It's still the great classic of all time, you can hear Hendrix in your soul with this wah.

It can get a bit trebly though sometimes, but this adds to the great sound. No intimidating knobs or stuff like that, straight forward. If this wah was stolen, I'd get the FBI and CIA to hunt the guy down, beat him up, and give me my wah back. I'd definitely buy the exact same wah again if it broke, even if I had all the money i could dream of. Stick with this wah, everybody!

Right now I'm using this pedal with a Peavey WolfGang Special and a Peavey Special 212 amp...yes I heard most of you sigh when I said the amp. It does suck...the amp I mean. The pedal is very nice. I actually find that it seems to make solo passages sound alot smoother that just using normal distortion. As far as it making you sound like everyone else I'd have to say it's all in how you use it. I don't think that when I use it I sound like everyone else. It comes from your technique, your fingers. Could be a smidge deeper of an effect though. And when you use it on a clean channel the trebble will just about make you pass out. To shrill so you just have to get the hang of only opening it up as far as you need to instead of just whamin' it back and forth. I find that mine has a nice transition from mud to treble...smooth...makes tapping sequences sound almost like you're using a flanger if you do it slowly enough.

The only reason this didn't get a 10 is that I took off two points for the following:
1) You have to push the little button damn hard and it sometimes can be frustrating to get the thing to turn on.
2) What they don't tell you, and what many people don't know, is that you can't plug it in pre-distortion or you get virtually no wah-sound.
Other than that, just rock your foot back and forth to get Gary Hoey, Jimi Hendrix, and all those other guitar gods sound "wow wah" sound.

Right now I have a bass amplifier (an old Roland) <- Crybaby <- Metal Zone MT-2 <- Ibanez Talman. All my equipment sucks, yes, but I've tried the Crybaby without distortion, with my friend's amp, and my friend's guitar. He has an old Peavey amp, and a Washburn something or other. I'm not really sure. In any case, I didn't notice any noise from it, but I do have a few complaints. First of all, since you have to push the thing forward to turn it on, you always get the treble end of the wah first. I don't know if all wah pedals do this or just this one but I don't really like that "feature." Second, the treble end will shatter your ear drums if your amp is cranked. Third, you can't "fade" from open to closed, it kind of goes: open, open, open, half-open, closed. In other words, it's not very sensitive to movement. I'm sure with some kind of treble equalizer you could fix this, but you shouldn't have to. In any case, it IS a wah pedal and does work (sort of).

Well, if I ever did a gig and if I needed wah that desperately, I would bring it without a backup. I used the same 9-volt battery for a few weeks before it quit on me. Very simple to use, it's either on or off. Only problem: no indicator light to tell if it's on or off, and with heavy distortion, it's real subtle and hard to tell if it's on.

Its a wah pedal, pretty simple to use, however, getting a good *sound* out of it is up to you. I find it a little more difficult to use than say a Morley Wah, but I like the sound of it better.
Manual is short, I don't need it really.

Im running a PRS standard 24 through a TS-5 tubescreamer, then the Crybaby, into a Fender Princeton '65. I didn't find any noise or distortion at all..the Wah effect is a little less bold than some others but very nice. Good Jimmi sound, good for most things. It isn't as good as a morley with distortion..but It is more than acceptable. Just don't put it after the distortion.

Once you get used to using it its easy to get a cool wah tone out of it. I would definately buy it again if it we're stolen or lost. I'm glad i have this pedal to help me play what I like. However, if you've got the dough, 160 will buy you a Budda Wah, I've heard some great stuff about those.

I use a PC-88 keyboard with the left side through the Crybaby then a Phaser. The right side is dry to the Roland KC-500. it's great for getting cutting backup clavi sounds, but it just can't seem to get the subtly of the backup keys on Herbie Hancock's 1973 hit "Chameleon" (but I don't play that part anyways). Also, it's made for guitars; I guess that's why the low end of the keyboard is so soft compair to the ear splitting wavering high notes that are out of reach for guitars. I like noise, this can give off a little if overdriven.

My setup is Ibanez RG470-->Crybaby-->Zoom 505-->DOD Grunge-->Fender Automatic GT 25W. This pedal is great! It works ok with heavy distortion like my grunge, but it sounds great when theres a light distortion through it, more like a overdrive. Its not THAT noisy just a little. its a strong sound. im giving it a 9 because i know there is a lot more better wah pedals than this but for this price range its the best. with this wah i was looking for a tom morelo sound like on bulls on parade or something and i got it...exactly. If ur looking for a wah that works good in solos, this isnt it. Im not the kind of guy that plays solos thats why i like this pedal. I play Rage Against the Machine, KoRn, Deftones, Nirvana...ect. This pedal is great! Everyone should have it but i prefer to wait till christmas season for a sale at ur local guitar shop like me because i got mine for more than half off.

Using a customized Ibanez EX170, with 3 Dimarzio's (x2n/fs-1/super2). Only noisy with high-gain and your pickups off. Very strong wah tone, but I modified mine by setting the pot for full trebele. If you want to know how to do this mail me. It goes Geetar>Crybaby>Ibanez Delay>Peavey Special 212. Can get certain Hammett sounds. I use a Gibson SG and an Ibanez Talman. The wah is hooked up in the effects loop of my multi effects pedal (Ibanez PUE5) so that I can just leave the crybaby on at all times and don't have to press it down really hard to turn it on and off all the time (it gets to be a pain after a while). I use the crybaby moving it up and down while while playing all the strings muted in clean mode to get that funky sound, and when using distortion I like to leave it in one place and use it as a tone control to get different sounds. Using distortion, I also love playing a line repeatedly with it down and gradually moving it up (adding treble) and then turning it off, using only distortion, which creates a powerful intro into songs.

Im using it with a Danelectro Nifty Fifty Amp, and a Mexican 4 year old Fender Strat, with Rosewood fretboard. My wah action was smooth throughout the whole travel. The high level wah sound is almost ear splitting.

I think I could definitely attribute the nuclear bomb analogy to the wah pedal. It's die cast medal with a fat rubber pad on top of it. I play an Ibanez EX standard -> Big Muff pedal -> Dunlop Crybaby -> Rocktek Phaser -> DOD FX50-B Overdrive -> Rocktek Vibrato -> RMS Volume Pedal -> Crate GXT-410 amp. I used to use a Zoom 505 in there, minus the phaser, Muff and volume pedal and I think I lost some serious high frequency hearing. This setup produced nothing but feedback when I used the wah. Finally, I made a patch on the 505 that cut the highs and boosted the lows. I haven't experienced this since I got rid of the 505. I think it was just too much for it. I had a problem once where the pedal totally cut out when I kicked it on, but then I realized the adapter had come undone slightly. Oops. My bad. I think this can do a decent imitation of some Hendrix and Stevie, but, few can do justice to those guys.

It seemed people weren't using it as much, at least from what I'd been witnessing. I've enjoyed this pedal a lot, though I might shop around before buying another one, if this one were stolen. I've heard great things about the Morleys, but I don't think I could quite go with the switchless wahs. I like being able to get different sounds with the pedal on, but not rocking it. I played other crybabys. I checked out a fuzz-wah, but hated how you had to turn it over to adjust. Just get a separate distortion! For pizza's sake!

I actually love the sound quality with a good distortion, but don't try playing it with pedal distortion like a metal zone; it turns both the dist and wah to shit. One thing I don't like about it is the slight distortion you get on a clean channel when the wah is either in the middle or passing from one end to the other. I think its like a super midrange punch that just kills your ears at high levels, therefore I play with the wah mainly on the distortion channel (if not always).

I would not buy it again if it were stolen, however because I really want a wah that you can get less wah sweep from for certain occasions and a bigger wah sweep for others. The best wah ever. I have tried many wahs, and nothing compares to a real crybaby. I read a review saying to keep the mid on your amp low, but I would have to disagree. This thing was all trouble from the start. It took about 200 pounds of foot pressure to turn the piece of crap on. I also prefer the way that Morley pedals turn on instead of the Dunlop way. It makes it easier to turn it off when the wah is in the up position.

With an American Strat & Hot Rod Deluxe, I'm looking for blues and funk (if you couldn't guess), and this wah's set in the treble range
so it gets good and funky.
This wah actually is pretty adjustable if you take it apart, pull back the grooved rod and move the pot. I took mine back to get a bit more midrange and avoid some unnessary scratching sounds. (Note: Someone else said this a dozen reviews below and he's right, mark where the pot roller is before you move it around--you might want to go back sometime)
With the pot back a bit, this thing sounds pretty good with distortion, it's not quite Jimi, but you can't play like him anyways.
Yeah, it's got no bypass, but I don't notice a ton of tone loss. In my opinion, the Vox 847 sucks out a lot more tone.

It gets great battery life and I would easily take it on a gig w/o a backup. There's one thing that's always been a problem for the crybaby, though. Once you push it too much, the little piece of felt on the bottom of the pedal wears thin and then when you try to activate or deactivate it, it won't click. A friendly guitar center fellow told me that many people tear out the piece of felt and put a piece of wood in to replace it and that this solves the problem.

This is a standard wah pedal, but don't trust all these reviews that give 10's and 9's, this is an instrument in itself, and you must learn to control the bass and top end of this, if you just simply rock it back and forth, you will sound horrible. The sound is very good........IF..............it is used with the right effects and settings. I don't try to be cocky, and I am not famous, but I do have a signature sound, to get a good wah, I feel that you have to have little or no mids on your amp setting, this way keeps it when you roll all the way open on the pedal, it wont kill your ears cause it sound so sharp. And use this with an overdrive or clean, distortion sound like crap and has no definition.

If this was stolen, I would replace it as quickly as possible, but that's me, I use the wah alot, but for someone who uses it only sparingly, I wouldn't reccommend it.
I love it's vowel-thick sounding wah when rolled properly with a little overdrive, this isin't a new model, it's a little older, so it has better sound quality. The new ones just are missing something.

It's easy, just rock it back and forth, nothing else. To turn it on and off, you have to put your whole weight on the front of the pedal, but that's not really a problem.

I'm using this with a mexican strat and peavey rage 158. The change is nice and gradual on both clean and distortion channels. However, if I place a distortion pedal (danelectro fab tone) after it, the change is very abrupt. When placed after the pedal, you get a really weird wooshing sound.

Very good with clean sound and light distortion. If you use a lot of distortion (placing the pedal before distortion) the effect will loose range and amplitude. If you place it after heavy distortion you will get a cool "woosh" phasing like sound. Placing it in one posision is also cool for long sustain leads.

This is the original Wah. It's not the "Q" model or anything, just the Wah-Wah. It's very easy to use. Put your foot on it, rock back and forth for the wah. The thing thats a little annoying is that when your jamming on the edge of your bed, you can't turn it off as easy as you can a BOSS pedal. Other than that, its extremely easy to get great wah's from it.

I hook my Crybaby up to a small 20 watt Fender amp. I use a Fender Standard Strat. It's only noisy when you keep your foot on it for very long, it makes a crackling noise. That can be avoided by stepping on it lighter, and not pushing on it when its closed so hard (that was annoying me at first but now it doesn't happen). The Wah on this thing is great, its my favorite pedal. It also sounds really cool when you use a Flanger pedal with it. You can sound like Hendrix and Clapton from the 60's, or like Dimebag Darrell. Thats what I love about this thing.

I play and listen to Korn, Limp Bizkit, Deftones, Godsmack, Pantera, stuff like that. It works great when I have to use it for that, which isn't often. I like to use it to make my own music... The bands I like don't use it that much, really. I've been playing for 8 months. I have the crybaby wah, a boss flanger, fender amp and standard strat. Im a minimalist. I'm going to buy a Delay/Pitchshifter, and thats about it. Too many pedals is terrible, three or four really great pedals is enough. if it were lost, id buy another one the hour after. I love playing a lot of notes over one long wah, Kirk Hammett does that sometimes. (I read it in his GW article, its a great trick). I compared this to the Morley, Bad Horsie I think. (Steve Vai's). This one is alittle bit better than the bad horsie. This is a GREAT pedal, I suggest you go out and buy it now. The 70 or 80 bucks is worth the investment.

its very easy to use. People said they have a problem turning it on. I fixed the problem with mine, but i warn you doing what i did takes the re-selling price down very much. So don't do it and then hold me responsible because i am just saying this as what i did. I took my wah, examined it, and found it was two legs on the inside that when you press down cause the problem and make it hard...blah blah blah. I removed the legs with an exacto knife. This solved the problem and made it VERY easy to use. I got used to it, like my two other friends who did too. It felt weird at first but its so easy now to turn it on and off without accidently hitting it off when its on.

it sounds very very good. sometime though with my humbucker it sounds really bad. But It sounds very good. I can get that pretty noose from soundgarden sound off it, and i can get alot of other stuff. Limp Bizkit's Pollution sounds perfect with the wah in the down position. My setup is: Fender Strat -> Crybaby -> MT-2 -> ZOOM 505 -> Marshall 4x12. At first when I tried the crybaby I hated the way it sounded distorted, it didn't sound much at all! After playing around with my settings on the ZOOM 505 I realised that the gain was so high that it drowned the crybaby's tone. I can nail down a Hendrix or Jimmy Page sound... which is why I got it. But I've also modified it. Stock out of the box, it sounds great, but there is a bit too much treble for my liking, so I just pulled the pot out rolled it down a couple of notches and put it back in. Bang! Dead on Hendrix... simple as that... This thing REALLY wahs not the Morley version of "wah" which sounds like "aaaaa". My setup goes like this. Les Paul Copy -> Crybaby -> Nobels DT-1 -> Marshall Valvestate 8080. Sounds best BEFORE distortion, not after. And for all you metalheads or alterna-wannabe's go get something else, don't look at this thing.

I've been trying out a bandmate's Crybaby wah wah pedal. I play a Gibson SG special through a Fender Twin Reverb. It had an annoying scratchy sound which disappeared after I cleaned the pots with WD-40. I don't like the range of the pedal. It seems small. It also seems like the it gets way too much high end. The low end sounds too quiet. As others have said, it sounds pretty good with a clean sound but not as good with distortion.
The particular pedal I was using totally robbed all my high-end frequencies when it was in bypass mode. This really sucks, because when you do kick it in, then it is way too trebley.

well, I use it with an ibanez s470 through a fender princeton chorus. the crybaby is after a boss flanger, metal zone and danelectro daddy-o for those good ol rock sounds. It sounds a little- no, very shitty through the MT-2, i dont' know how to describe the sound, but the bass is very quiet. the danelectro is cool, if you mute the strings and rock it back and forth, it gets a cool funk sound like you hear in those cop intros. although, I must say the best application for it is before my amps distortion. (I have the gain on 10, limiter on 1 and presence on 10) it's perfect for all those alice in chains grungy wah effects and all that cool shit. I think that one song, man in a box, maybe, is what it really sounds with.

I use a PRS standard 24 and any amp in my grasp. Of all the amps I have plugged this thing into it still sucks. Once modified it might sound good. As long as your treble is ear piercing, the wah will have some sound, but if you look for a bottom end distorted sound, buy something you can configure yourself other than rely on this to be the perfect wah for your needs. I do like the wah used only by itself it does have a good sound for a clean guitar but other than that I would't recommend it!!!

I use a Strat into a cheap practice amp, but it actually sounds quite good on the clean channel. The pedal provides a basic straightforward wah effect. With pedal fully in the treble position, you get a lot of hiss, but I recken that this is just boosting the natural high frequency pick-up noise so I don't think that this could be helped. Also in the mid or neck pick-up position, with the tone turned low, if you paly a chord (g major esp) you get a sort of resonant, vibrating noise coming from the amp. Again I suspect that this really to do with my amp rather than the pedal.
My only major fault is that ont on the main reasons I bought it was to get the sound John Squire had on 'Waterfall', but it doesn't sound nearly powerful enough for this. I later he used an auto-wah on that track anyway. Stil a pretty good effect though.

I use a Squier Strat (I know, sucks), into a Squier Frontman type amp (I know, sucks) but this pedal can make it sound great. Sometimes, though, I wonder why when using it, it sometimes gives hardly any wah at all? Many times when I try to use it on other pickups other than the humbucker, and it gives hardly a sound. But when I turn on the distortion on the amp, it gives a very nice wah sound, if even a bit noisy.

I play a variety of different styles, mostly metal. It comes in handy for the cover a a typical song that uses a wah. However, the wah is an easy effect to abuse. My band used it on all of the songs that we put onto our demo tape. I used it for a gig once, and it sounded great. I had switched the effect manually though, not a big problem though. My band mate likes it too. He had a vox, but it broke. It takes alot of practice to uses for lead playing, like my band mate does. I like to use it rhythmically for songs like rage's bulls on parade and such.

Great pedal for the original wah sound. I can get beales great out of it. Useing a steady rocking motion you can get a nice modern lead/rhythm strum effect. If I lost it I'd try out those pot-less Morleys....I hate changing the Pot. And greasing it. And cleaning it.

it sounded great - i've never heard another. I have however heard Ibanez Auto - Wah, which has no character in it at all. This pedal sounds so cool - when i first got it (about a year ago) i got dizzy from the sound. but it has so mcuh character. with the pedal held foward u get a raw sound with it held backwards it sounds like a weak harmonics depending on ur distortion level.

i play a Epiphone LP Standard through a Peavey Bandit 112. it made a TERRIBLE screaming sound. i couldnt have it in the down position for a split second without it screaming. but i think it's my crappy pickups (stock). but i got a noise suppressor which took care of the problem almost completely. it still does it sometimes but im almost sure its the pickups. other than that, its great. it loses some wah when distorted but, its not that bad. great wah sounds.

I'v played this before my Boss MT2 Metalzone in the effects loop, after the MT2 in the loop and before the loop all together. The only way I haven't had it is after the MT2 but in front of the amp. I found the tone was too narrow, when using a battery it seemed to lose volume but when using the adapter it was ok. When using the adapter and placing the wah after the distotion it boosts the signal far too much, becomes very pearcing and cutting. I only really found useful sounds when using it with a clean sound. I have to admit that because of this, I don't use it very much and when I do use it, I don't use it very well...need more practice.

It's a wah pedal. Set your foot on it and go nuts...or be REALLY cool about it and do subtle stuff. Can it be any easier?
Well, actually, it could. The switch is damn hard...you've got to really push down on it to get it to switch on. Don't try gigging with it when you first get it, or you're going to screw up because you're not used to pushing down hard. But once you're used to it, it's okay...I guess the point here is to make sure that when you go to switch it off, you don't switch it off and back on by accident.

I use a Fender Standard Strat (Mex. made) with a Fender Hot Rod Deluxe. This thing sounds great with them. Playing clean gives you a classic funky wah...pentatonic scales have become more than blues stuff to me since I got this pedal. Using my amp's overdrive, I get some nice, distorted wah...you can get some cool acid rock sounds. With more drive on my amp, it just gets really noisy. Pretty useless at that level, though it does work if you want to make a song come to a noisy end or need to do some avant-garde stuff, it can be done. And don't forget...you can use this thing as a tone pedal if you don't rock it with your foot.
As far as noise goes...it's a little hissy when full forward, but that makes no difference since you'll be playing anyway and it'll cover it up. When it's off, there's no noticeable noise in the line...even if the amp's idling.
Compared to the other wahs I've tried (a few Morley models and a Vox reissue), I like this best. The sound is just more "solid" to me. Nice sweep, unlike the Morleys, and low noise, unlike the Vox.

This thing would need to be ABUSED to break. It's all metal, quite heavy duty (I left it on the floor of my room one night and tripped over it when I got up the next morning...nearly broke my toe!). You'd have to fling it out a window onto concrete to break the casing...and I mean you'd have to fling it HARD. The electronics look delicate, but unless some freak is going to sneak into your playing area, unscrew the bottom plate, and dig at the innards with a screwdriver, you'll be good.
Batteries...well, I've had this for five months now and it's still on the original battery, and it doesn't sound any weaker. Why bother with an AC if it is economical? Just be sure to unplug your cables from it when not in use.
Note on the pot: people say it gets scratchy. You can extend the life of the pot if you put it back in the bag it came in and put it back in its box when you're not using it. And a pot only costs about $20 or so, anyway...you shouldn't need to change it for a few years. Which is damn fine for a good wah like this.

Come on! It's a friggin' wah pedal! If you can't use it, you shouldn't have a guitar in your hands! But seriously, what's great great about this pedal is its simplicity; no bells and whistles, no knobs or LEDs... Just step on it and go! But that's my style; I'm a purist. Oh yea, it requires a 9 volt battery too, which I've heard so many people complain that it's "hard to replace or get too." Come on, If you can't undo four screws, then you're just goddamn lazy!

The sound quality is great. It's the standard crisp, nasaly, "crying" sound that is one of the industry standards. The only other wah pedal that I can think of as an "industry standard" is the Vox wah pedal, which is a very good pedal, with it's own unique, warmer sound, but is about $40 more! So, for practically, this pedal rocks, buck for buck. Some people have dogged the pedal's low end, bass sound (heel down,) saying that it "loses volume, overall punch, etc..." I don't hear this. I find that the pedal stays pretty consistent throughout its entire sweep, from a warm bass end, to a nasaly treble end. Also, your guitar's signal doesn't suffer hardly at all through this pedal when in bypass, and there is no added noise that I can tell of. It's a very clean circuit. One note: the pedal will generally sound better if is the FIRST pedal in your chain of effects.

I play your standard rock n roll style music: lots of vintage style Zeppelin, Beatles, etc. and also more modern day rock. It fits in wherever you want to put wah in. I play through a Les Paul Custom and Peavey Classic stack and a Marshall JCM stack. I get beautiful tones from both rigs with the wah pedal. I would most definitely buy it again. I compared this pedal with others and like I said, the only other wah pedal that competes with it is the Vox.

Come on it's a freggin Wah pedal step on it to turn it on and the rest is up to you. I read about these panty wastes saying, "Oh it's so hard to step on, wa wa". First of all it isn't that hard to step on, unless your sitting douw which you shouldn't be, and second of all if it didn't take a little muscle to turn it on, it would turn off if you didn't watch how your foot goes (witch you shouldn't, because you should be so into your playing, you shouln't have to worry) So putting a little pressure down is good.

This pedal kicks ass! Wether you listen to music that has Wah in it or not, I suggest to any guitar player to pick this up. It is the most fun I have had (guitar wise). It's a great way to spice up your leads. This is a real wah pedal ladies a gentlemen, not the those crappy Morley pedals. Morley pedals make a swishing sound, but when you play with a Dunlop it makes a "wow" sound. Which is what a wah pedal is all about. It sounds great with any effect except acoust effects. But who uses a Wah with an acoustic sound? I use 3 Boss Pedals right now: BOSS AC-2 Acoustic Simulator(not with wah) then a BOSS MT-2 Metal Zone and then a BOSS CE-5 Chorus ensemble then the Wah. It sounds great, but I hope to get a BOSS GE-7, BOSS Compression Sustainer and one more for a BCB-6 Case.

Okay, I'm using a left-handed cream white strat(I'm actually left-handed, I'm not doing some JIMI thing), thru a Fender Automatic SE. Use the manual suggestion of the path going fuzz, wah, anything else. With this it definitely whoops serious ass... you can get that perfect wah on any Rage Against The Machine, Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, Navarro stuff, as well as Cream, and Hendrix. This thing is only bad when you use it in front of the those death metal pedal things, which I don't, so it works great for grunge rock. It sounds just too cool in clean mode too... it kicked the Morley wah's ass, and sounds just like a VOX.

It's a basic wah - very simple to use. The manual isn't too descriptive, though using a wah is a matter of personal style and taste. My only complaint is its activation switch, which has to be REALLY hammered to work. I suppose it's fine when you get the hang of it, but it's a little difficult to deal with in the middle of a guitar solo. I've heard of people modifying their pedals to make the switch easier to use, but I'm not brave enough to try it.
Sound Quality
:

I use it with a Boss Metal Zone, which I have after the wah. The wah effect is less pronounced this way, though I experienced volume problems when the wah was placed after the Metal Zone. In either case, the Metal Zone is at fault - it's parametric EQ and high distortion tend to stop the wah from functioning properly. Dunlop talk of this in the manual. When used clean or with lower distortion, however, the wah really sings.

Apart from the switch problem, little can happen to this pedal. So far, I've had to clean the pot and lubricate some of the moving parts - which you should do to all pedals anyway. There's a neat feature to this pedal - if your AC adapter malfunctions (rendering the unit powerless), the pedal switches to dry signal. This is unlike Boss pedals, which obstruct signals when they don't have any juice.

I've never contacted Dunlop via phone or snail mail. However, I have E-Mailed them on numerous occasions, and their advice has been very helpful and accurate. Still, I wouldn't expect them to send me anything for free or even service the pedal. Realistically, that's something for a local dealer or repair shop to handle.

I play heavy metal, which requires a high level of distortion. The Crybaby doesn't work well with high distortion regardless of where it is in your effect chain (trust me - I've tried it on many set ups through the years). Other wah pedals may have a more pronounced effect with distortion (eg, the Rockman Optic Wah or Morley's Bad Horsie) but they just don't sound "right" to me. The Crybaby is "THE" wah; everything else just tries to copy its unique sound. I take my Crybaby to gigs without a backup and it hasn't failed me yet. Just make sure you have a spare AC adapter; if anything will malfunction it's that.

BWAHAHA! Ooooh Yeah! Is this the coolest pedal ever made? Can scream like a banshee when closed and make your tone so bassy it's two dimentional when open. Used as a filter its great, but the real magic comes out when soloing, accent individual notes or sweep slowly over a passage. Either way, it'll make you dribble with glee, and annoy fellow band players, cos you wont stop soloing out of the sheer joy of the way this thing sounds. If you are going to buy a Wah, find a good one, like this one or a Vox or something. The difference between a good one like this, and a cheap one is unbeliveable.

Looks like a brick, Smells Like a Brick, Tastes like a brick. Crybabys have one weakness, common to all Wahs. The pot gets dirty, and the thing crackles and hisses when you move it. Get a new pot, and your problem is solved. However, for general purposes, this thing is indestuctible.

Makes you feel like Jimi (grab one and try not to play "Voodoo Chile") and improves your range of sounds like no other pedal i've ever heard. Not bad for what is really just a tone pot. If it ever got taxed i would follow the thief to the ends of the earth an do things so vile to them as to make this review unprintable if put into writing. A joy and an Honour to own.

Easy to use: just plug in and play like Jimi. No manual, but any idiot can work out how to use it. Easy to get good sound. Toe down: bassy; toe up: trebly. Takes a while to get it going nice and smooth. Remember to plug it in the right way, otherwise you get a horrible distrorted scratchy sound.

I use a crappy Park 25W w/ reverb amp, but it sounds OK. it is hardly noisy, but it drains the battery quick. You can leave the pedal in certain positions to get mid boosts etc. It always sounds great, but occasionaly i pick up radio stations on it like some other people. It takes a god player to get a sound out of it like Hendrix, but practice makes perfect. It doesn't sound too good with distortion, best clean.

I think it is a wee bit pricey, but it is a wah. It only sounds like Hendrix after you have it perfected. Don't be disappointed at first, because to get it sounding good it takes a bit of practice. I have never had anotheer wah, but if this one broke(don't think it ever will), i'd probably buy a vox instead, just to see what it is like. The pedal is a bit sticky, and unsmooth when new, but after you have played for a while (e.g. 6 months) it feels great. One bad thing is the battery draining, but the unit would never break. Doesn't have many features, just the pedal itself. If you want wee knobs to play around with spend a bit of extra money on the 353? It is a bot trebley, and i heard the vox isn't, but you can supposidly change the cog inside it to make it less trebly, i don't know how though. It does help you become more expressive in your playing, and helps you invent some new things. I only use it for lead though, it makes solos more interesting. Overall, a good pedal.
