I wanted this pedal for effects only instead of using the guitar volume knob. you need some time getting used to operating it of course, but after a short while you get the hang of it.

Sounds good, no noise, no setup, just plug and play.

looks durable, made from aluminum exactly like the WAH WAH pedal i have for years.
Its heavy so it won't flip easily. no battery or electric power needed so you won't get stuck...and because it's passive there no added noise.

i've emailed (a few days ago) CS for a solution to the volume, but didn't get any reply.

I took the liberty of dealing with the volume issue myself. I've opened the pedal and adjusted the potentiometer . If you want to do it yourself too, you can see article/review i wrote on my site:
http://nextgap.com/2009/07/jim-dunlop-volume-pedal-volume-adjustment-fix-review/
there is a step by step on how to do it. and it's pretty recommended cause overall it's a good pedal.
i gave it a nine, just because i had to deal with the volume fix, otherwise its a ten.

Simple passive volume pedal. No controls, no battery. Input and output clearly marked. The pot's easy enough to replace, so are the jacks.

It's essentially a oversized volume control. No major noise issues.

Dunlop pedals like this are a cast metal. Very sturdy. Pot and jacks can wear out but they're very easy to replace.

I'm a big fan of Dulop gear and accesories, love their straplocks. The pedals are all built ideally, solid as a rock with replacable parts. This pedals no ecception. Kinda pricey for what it is, but so is the Ernie Ball.

Very easy to use, I personally like it better than an Ernie Ball volume pedal I had, because I find it's easier to get quicker volume swells and tremolo effects. The pedal has "faster action". No batteries, no power needed, completely passive. The pedal can be adjusted for complete silence or minimum volume by adjusting the teeth in the gear mechanism.

It doesn't effect the tone of my sound and it doesn't make any noise. I put it at the very end of my effect chain. I don't know if the pot will get noisy later, but I prefer the gear mechanism to the string in the Ernie ball and to a volume pedal that requires power,( that's asking for more noise in my opinion.)

I was just looking for a simple volume pedal. I find the "action" on this pedal to be very quick, which was the main selling point for me.

Once it was adjusted (by me, with Dunlop techie on the phone) it works fine. Only manual with it was for a Crybaby; I found the volume pedal catalog online (PDF) and their customer service also sent me the link.

No added noise... using a Peavey solid state head/cab and Fender Blues Jr. To do a true swell (violin effect) it does need to go to no volume/sound, and it didn't arrive set that way. Otherwise it's more of a rhythm/lead adjuster.

Seems solid; since I've already worked on it to change the pot to "zero" volume/throw I'd have to figure I can adjust or fix it if it goes off.

The unit arrived mail order from AMS; once plugged in I was disappointed that it went from some volume (very audible) to full.. Emailed both AMS and Dunlop, and kept getting told it should work and is (supposed) to go from NO volume to full. Finally got tech help number for Dunlop, and was guided through unassembling and adjusting lever so it would be at end of throw, rather than a bit up the shaft. After that it worked as prescribed. It sounds like that's common from reading the reviews here; Dunlop seemed surprised by it. My guess is they're just set wherever "close" and they really ought to just tell people why/how to reset the thing. At least mention that in the "brochure" (it's a simple device, and a very simple brochure as well). Had a bit of a tussle getting them to understand what wasn't working right, but they responded well once they grasped the problem I was having. Almost sent it back; glad now I kept it since it beats volume knob manipulations (and does take some "touch" to time the pick attack, as mentioned). Does some cool effects when used quickly like a wah, too.

I'd recommend it. Since it doesn't use batteries I can just keep it plugged in, and it provides a nice extension to the cord that way (place it midway between amp and where you might want to stand). Just don't be surprised if you need to adjust it upon delivery to no volume in the heel-down position.

Sounds great-has just the right amount of travel to make it comfortable to play. You can easily adjust the pedal to vary the amount of volume you wish to decrease-from silent to whatever else you want as your lowest setting.

There are more expensive pedals out there but if you want a basic, no-frills volume pedal here it is. Solidly built, reliable, easy to use. What else could you want in a volume pedal ?

It takes a degree of practice to coordinate your pick attack with the
pedal attack to get just the right vol swell; this is up to the player and not a fault of the pedal, but it does take some work. No manual needed BUT, you must adjust the gear if you want complete cutoff of vol. If you can do Eric Clapton's wah on the chorus of White Room then you can pump this passive vol for tremolo.

This is a vol control in a Crybaby-type pedal. Since the vol goes from zero to unity I can't see why they call it "High gain". I use it with a Carvin amp and guitar, Crybaby and DOD chorus. I had to adjust the pedal to completely cut vol for swells, a simple matter.

I've used it for about 10 years with no problems. It gets a good workout because it gets double duty as a tremolo pedal. I've had no problem even though I walk all over it.

I use this pedal for swells in country songs and as a tremolo pedal for Riders on the Storm etc. When either my vol pedal or Crybaby wears out I'll get a combo wah/vol pedal (vol pedal must be capable of complete cut-off) It is invaluable for many songs my band covers. I chose it due to being so used to the Crybaby pedal. No complaints.
