First here is my set up : guitars(moded fender strat or epi les paul) > digitech rp500 > boss bd2 > digitech bad monkey > danelectro cool cat fuzz > dunlop jimi hendrix wah special > marshall valvestate 100r.
This is a really great sounding wah but ofcourse it all depends on your style or taste. In the past I have used line 6 wahs (included on the floor pod plus), original cry baby, zakk wylde cry baby, various vox's and the JH-1S, to my ear is the best wah by far! A good throating sounding wah with great bass and mid while removing that ear splitting high end normally associated with the full toe down position.

I purchased this item off of ebay and when it arrived it had a horrible scratchy noise and hiss when rocking the pedal. Opened up the back and sprayed some compressed air and 10w40 and that fixed the problem in less than 5 min.
Item feels as sturdy as a regular crybaby and i doubt that i would need a back up when gigging.

i haven't needed customer support on this item, however i did email dunlop about another product and they were very fast and friendly in their responce.

I have been playing blues and rock for the past 11 years or so and this is certainly one of the best wah's I have ever used! For the price that I paid it was a great deal especially considering dunlop no longer makes these pedals. There are some other great wah's out there: the buddah wah, the bbe wah, fulltone has several great wahs, the dunlop 535 Q, however you will be dropping well over $100 for them.

It's a wah pedal. Step on it to engage it, move your foot to make sounds, step on it again to turn it off. Doesn't get too much easier than that.

Thru my setup (standard Strat into TS-9, BD-2, JH-1S Wah, Microvibe into Fender Super Reverb or Marshall 100W head and 4x12), this wah sounds GREAT! Unsurpassed sweep and nice thick "wah" sound with no apparent loss in volume. However, based on my experience with this wah, if you plan on using it with overdrive/distortion pedals, I recommend placing it after the overdrive/distortion pedals to get the whole "Jimi/SRV Voodoo Child" sound goin on.

I have never had any problems with it being unreliable. All Dunlop wahs are built like tanks, so I don't forsee it dying anytime soon. I don't have any other wah pedals, but if it crapped out on me, I would definately try my best to get my hands on another JH-1S.

Overall, I think that this wah is excellent. If you're after a Hendrix/Voodoo Child wah sound, this is the pedal for you! The only thing that might add to the appeal of this wah would be an LED... so here it gets a 9.

a simple toe on wah. Just store it when not in use to prevent the exposed pot from getting noisy fast.

I've played this wah through all my amps and guitar combinations and it sound great. the full bass heel down setting is a great notched tone. This is not a great wah for that shaft thing but I've been able to control the sweep enough to hip. I'd probably use another wah if some asked me to do that rock it back and forth stuff for a whole gig but I love this things range.

If this is like ewvery other dunlop when that I've own in the past 20 years or so it will need the pot replaced or if cheaper I will replace the wah itself. Again store it when not in use.

Awesome sound! I play rock music so I use Les Paul and Marshall. Year ago I decided to buy a wah pedal because I wanted the same sound like Zakk Wylde or Slash. My friend advised me to use JH-1S and lend me one... I have never gave it back to him :-) I had to bought it. It is really perfect for clean sound but also for distortion or solos... It doesn't sound like Zakk or Slash but I am glad because I have created my own sound which is even better!! Don't be affraid and try it!

I have been playing guitar for 7 years. I have also tried wah pedal from George Dennis but it was terrible experience. Very bad sound and very high price! If my wah were stolen I would buy it again but it is not easy to get it in Czech republic. There is only a few pieces of JH-1S. A lot of people use Cry Baby instead. So that's all. I love music, I love to play, I love JH-1S :-)

I've had this pedal in my effects board for about 5 years now. I bought it because my original crybaby crapped out and I needed it replaced, but the store only had the Hendrix model at the time. I tried it out and have used it ever since. However, the tone on both the high and low sides of the sweep is definitely lower and flatter in range, so if you're looking for a wide sweep, this is not the wah for you. I use wahs not so much as a wah, but more of a tone boost for leads, and for this the Hendrix wah works beautifully. I also own a Vox, which works extremely well for those clean wah sounds, but for distorted wah tones the Hendrix model is hard to beat.

Unlike my orginal crybaby, I have had no problems with the Hendrix wah. However, it is starting to get noisy when the pedal is rocked back and forth and will need to have the pot cleaned or replaced probably.

It's been a great wah that sounds fantastic through my 5150. Like I said, it isn't as good as my Vox for those clean, funky wah tones. But man, this thing kills for distorted lead tones. I will probably replace this wah with a crybaby classic here shortly though - I've used the hell out of it for 5 years and I need something new and different.

This works like most wah-wah's...step down to active button. This is the same metal housing that all the other wah-wah's from dunlop minus the extranous controls from other models; 535Q etc. The manual features some info about hendrix's signal chain on his effects.

I am a professional guitarist and I use the wah-wah in performance. I purchased this model back 1993; since then, I've had the pot have some problems, but when this effected worked it was great. The action of throw on the pedal/pot is longer than the original wah by dunlop, there's more "room" on the bass EQ of the wah than the high end. It also sounds like it doesn't to the brittle edge of the EQ like the original dunlop cry baby model. It's really nice if you're running a real treble edge sound like a telecaster and a twin; but if you're using a marshall and les paul this wah-wah might not be to your needs; it could be too dark of sound. I've played the original cry baby from 1969 or so with same old pot, and this Hendrix model doesn't sound like that one or have the action of the throw of the EQ. It all depends what kind of wah sound you prefer, this is still a decent wah-wah; I got 10 years or so out of mine and I will probably have dunlop fix it since I need one as back up for performance.

All metal housing, built very strong, battery life is pretty long. I would store this in a plastic bag when not in use, dust and humidiy really reeks havoc on pedals like wah's that have "exposed circuts"

Great effect, but I would try to try one out before you buy it if you're particular about your wah sound. This is a different EQ and throw on the wah effect that was previously released. I was told that this one sounded similar to VOX models; but I don't really have any experience with that effect. I do wish that mine had the battery compartment that now is available on the new dunlop wah pedals; this is to elinimate un-screwing the actual back off the effect and wear the threads that holds the metal backing on the effect. I really think that the wah-wah is the most crucial effect on guitar, besides a little spring reverb. Good effect , well made, sounds good!

This requires no backup. My only complaint is that the original padding on the underside of the pedal was sub-par. I had to run to the craft store and buy some new felt pads. It holds up very well, but beware- if you use batteries, they leak and wreak havoc with the pedal's appearance and "guts".

Good quality. I'm not sure why this is more Jimi Hendrix than the crybaby, but I was suckered in by it. It didn't really sound good until I replaced the pot with a Dunlop sealed and lubed pot. The W of the Wah was too dark. But now it really does sound vitage. In fact, with that circuit and the right pot, it's on of the best sounding wahs I've ever used.

This is a good buy, but if you take a jimi hendrix pedal, and change the range to something he didn't use, is it still a hendrix pedal? I think it's a bit commercial.
I'm using a strat plus through several distortion units and the way, into a valve preamp and then a fender JAM amp. This gives a close hendrix approximation, but also covers led zeppelin stuff I do. And with the new pot, it's pretty much noiseless.

If you are looking for a 60's/70's wah pedal you should definetly play this one. Consistent wah sound throughout the entire range of the guitar including the low end. Wah continues to work really well throughout the entire range even when linked to distortion. Best sounding scratch except for maybe a vox, but that's just my opinion.

I just bought mine used and it has a scratching sound when I move it up and down without playing anything. I think that means the pot is worn out and needs to be replaced. The dunlop web site suggests a rectangular pot that they claim gets the same sound but lasts twice as long. Check it out. Otherwise, the pedal is built like a tank.

The only other pedal I would suggest checking is the Vox. I didn't like the crybaby(which many people think is the classic wah sound) because there is not much wah range in the low end, turn on the distortion and the bottom sounds like a half ass volume pedal. In the end your opinion is the one that counts most and its hard to get a good feeling for a pedal in a store so buy from some where that you want have a problem returning or exchanging. Peace.

It a simple wah-wah (Crybaby style, only a switch to press for on/off) it's really simple (Unless you're a drummer)... Has a place for an adaptor but the access to thebattery is annoying, like in a Crybaby.

I used mostly a Charvel CX390 and a Fender Champion. The pedal is not noisy at all, it's sounds really great, warm fat sound, the volume is lost a bit when it goes bassy but you can put a small wood stick there and it'll stop, that's normal for a wah-wah and it's not such a problem. It sounds great with my amps distortion. For it to sound like Hendrix I'd need a Strato and a Twin Reverb, but generally it sound something like him. As far as sound matters is great, for me.

Never giged with it, I only had it for a few weeks and umm.... I lost it... nm... sad story... Sometimes when I turned it on/off it stopped working and you didn't hear a thing, it was kinda between on and off i think, but that happened because I didn't press hard enough on the pedal and it was not a bit problem. I didn't have it for enough time to say if it's reliable but it's built like a tank and it looks reliable.

It's my first wah-wah but I've heard a few before I bought this one. I've been playing for 2 years now. I lost it but I'm buying a new one but better, I'm buying the chrome Crybaby, it has a few wah sounds in it, including this one. Don't buy this pedal only on my suggestion, go to the store and check all the wah's they've got, what do I care, check all the stores you can. peace.
