Two knobs, authentic recreation of an old late 60's, love the grey case look.

strat-fuzzface-picturewah-ts9analogman-megavibe-spaceecho-1976twinreverb. This fuzz is mass destruction, the silicon transistors clean nicely with the strat and also with my sg gibson w/ P90's. This give you total Band of Gypsys sound; I am really picky with the right sound and was kind of doubtful with puchasing it from Dunlop because it's corporation production, the soldering is really clean and hand-soldered. I also own a fuzz face modded by analogman with the silicons and I compared them, both are excellent; the analogman oscillated a little bit depending on its mood and is even a tiny little bit brighter. They both give me Jimi sounds and feedback cranking my vintage fender all the way up.

Straightforward ??? owner???s manual photos show three different sound effects to be had, but the controls are shown in the same position on two of them.
I like to burn in the circuitry on a factory-fresh Fuzz Face by stressing the NOS transistors inside with blast waves of sound; long drones, fast pulses of high notes, and legato jazz lines up around the dusty end of the fingerboard. lol..

Sound Quality : 10
Has a musical, high fidelity, sustained horn-like quality - Saxophone? Trumpet? - wih a black '04 Stratocaster thru a wah, JH-F1 (or sometimes a Bad Monkey), into a Boss pw-10 univibe into one of Marshall's 50 watt tube amps.
Quiet for a Fuzz Face. Different tones shadings from barely there to freight trains, flying saucers, and subterranean glacial rumblings, on some days.

Reliability : 9
2nd Dunlop Fuzz Face. 1st had no problems. Circuitry/sound was weather-related temperamental, however. Some days back then the red ???92 model would have a brittle sound quality. Other days sounded great, adding sound qualities that sre described by people when they say ??? This sure is a good Fuzz Face here!??? One good one is plenty, but of course that depends on what pro/other level you are playing at.

Prrobabbly sucks..

I just try not to hit wrong notes! Having absorbed some of many different musical styles over the years, I like sort of a cross between Jimi, Nelson Riddle, and Pharaoh Sanders. Ha! (Oh ya, and throw in some Bach into the musical mix.

Copycat...

I feel this pedal is indispensable in getting that smooth; or if you want, edgy sustain that???s always been one of the goals of electric guitarists everywhere. Plus just a great indefinable sound that seems to fit the whole deal of all this music making over the years.
All goes back in the direction of the pipe organs im the churches hundreds of years ago, kind of... Great, great sounds.

Hendrix???s melancholy fade-out from his Woodstock performance is playing as I???m typing here...

So to sum up my feelings about this no. 1 favorite, I'll paraphrase Leo Fender: the green Dunlop JH-F1 Fuzz Face
hauls *** around the moon!

Only 2 knobs BUT - Not very easy. You have to know how to use it.

Excellent. Transparent, full of dynamics, very sweet. Everything from mild overdrive to great fuzzzz. best results on slightly overdriven tube amp - does not matter what pickups you use.

It is a must have.

Metal heads, punk guys - do not buy this beauty. It is NOT for you. The BEST fuzz of all I have tried (and I tried a lot of them).
BUT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Do NOT forget that only the latest 7 of the total 11 reviews are about that turquoise green JH-F1 Authentic Jimi Hendrix Fuzzface!!!!!(including this mine). The rest of the reviews are from 2005!!!! and those stories are about another "unknown" fuzzes! The JH-F1 is product of the year 2007.
The reviews of the JH-F1 listed the Sound quality as follows: 9, 10, 10, 10, 8 and 10. The average: 9,5!!!!!!!!!!!! (The review of that "jimkosty" is inconsiderable - : even a Porsche could be a crap if I can not ride a car. Sorry Jimkosty, try to buy a Boss Metalzone or a Digitech Hothead.)

two knobs, c'mon

Sound Quality : 8
- What setup (i.e. what guitars and amps) are you using this with?

Strat with Marshall 2061X, 1987/1959 (both RI) Boogie Mark I RI, Fender Vibrolux.

- Is it noisy? On what settings?

no

- What amp are you using it with?

see "What setup"

Sound quality is good and on the smooth side. For a silicon fuzz using BC108's it could be a bit brighter and also use a tad more gain, though. All my other fuzz pedals, even the germ ones, are brighter and gainier. Compared, my Fulltone 70's and Sweet Sound Fillmore West fuzz are high gain machines.

Sounds best with an amp/channel with already a bit of "hair"/breakup.

I bought it mail order.

If I would buy it again, if possible I'd check out different units in person at some store. As always with fuzz pedals, they can vary quite a bit from unit to unit.

Just the standard 2 knobs, how more simple do you want it?

Sound Quality : 10
This turquoise tellermine (with silicon BC108 trannys) really is a great product by Dunlop. It does exactly what I expected it to do, give me REAL good Jimi tones. To get this pedal shining I use one of my 100 watt Marshall superleads with the proper amount of overdrive. To nail Jimi tones with this pedal I found it is best to keep the amp`s mids pretty low (9 o`clock).
Now with the amp set I look for the FFs volume and gain sweetspots which are resp. 4 o`clock for volume and 3 o`clock for gain.
From here on it is party time with my Fender Am. Std. Stratocaster`s volumecontrol; beautiful crispy clear clean halfway up to heavily distorted fuzztones (think Peace in Mississippi). Between halfway and full up there are plenty of Jimi tones available.
The fuzztone has a nice raw grain what makes this fuzz-effect pretty aggressive, real nice, real Jimi!!
With the FFs controls almost full clockwise this JH-F1 FuzzFace is extremely quiet, actually the quietest of all previous (Germanium)FuzzFaces i owned.

I mainly play classic rock for over 30 years where Jimi Hendrix and Jimmy Page are my absolute favorites. Those guys know TONE!!
If this JH-F1 FuzzFace were stolen or lost I definately buy it again.
I recommend it to any Hendrix-style guitarplayer that uses a cranked Marshall Superlead. If you use a clean (Fender) amp you probably need to look somewhere else.

Now, if you`ll excuse me....I must be on my wayyyyyyyy!!!

2 knobs that are dead simple

this is an awesome remake of the Jimi Silicon Fuzz face from the late 69-70 period. I use a Marshall with it and it hits it on the one. I also use a Prescription Electronics Vibe Unit and a Vox Wah. Killer sound, cleans up well and gives you the late Jimi sound.

Awesome!! Some people say it doesn't sound that good and I think that's crazy. I'm sure when Dunlop like many companies make and test their products they use new high end or vintage gear. I don't think they're using a $60 dollar amp w/ a 8" speaker. If someone has a problem with the sound of this pedal, check the quality of your gear before saying the pedal is inferior. I'm running this with a 1977 Marshall JMP 100 Watt and JCM800 4x12 w/ Greenbacks and this pedal rocks!! I've also used it with my 67 Fender Showman, a Music Man RD100, and even my little Balckheart 3/5 watt and it sounds great through everything!! The guitars I use vary from a 87 Gibson SG Custom, Fender 60's Relic, Eric Johnson Strat, Fender Hendrix Woodstock Strat, etc. If you don't think this pedal sounds great then you probably would have thought Jimi's actual pedal sounded like crap too. Sure worked for him!! Jimi knew how to get the best out of his equipment and that takes time and experience. The Fuzz is very smooth and creamy and is not tinny or harsh at all. You get get a sweet warmth when rolling back the guitar's volume. Love this pedal and the sounds it creates.

Reliability : 10
My only problem is the rubber is peeling off the top by the footwsitch but I'll just glue it back down. Nothing to do with performance though. Performance wise, so far so good.

Customer Support : 10
I've dealt with Dunlop in the past and it's usually a good experience.

No brainer, plug in and adjust to taste, which means fuzz level and volume, period.

Sound Quality : 1
Playing a Fender American Strat with Kinman pickups through a Fender HR Deville 4X10, I couldn't get anything out of it except for annoying, buzzy, flat sounding, tinny fuzz. I guess this is what it is all about, and I love Hendrix music, but this pedal surely isn'y worth more than $30 tops. I guess we pay for the cosmetic jive and all that. Just not impressed and very disappointed. It's going back to the retailer.

Reliability : 5
i'm sure it'd last forever. Dunlop stuff is always reliable.

I get the best sounds combining the amp's distortion channel with an Ibanez TS-808 reissue or the MXR Distortion III. I also get a much more useable fuzz tone out of my Behringer Ultra Fuzz ($29). Vintage isn't always where it's at, and with so much better and refined sources of good musical gear out there, this pedal finds no place in my efforts to make good tones.

Maybe if I had three Plexi stacks on ten the fuzz face would sound like I expected.

This is the Jimi Hendrix fuzz face model JH-F1, with the turquoise finish.
This pedal sounds really good through the entire range of the fuzz knob, it responds to your attack and guitar volume really good, very dynamic, with the fuzz in medium to max settings there is an abrupt drop off of fuzz when you roll your guitars volume from 10 to just 9 ( it's almost like an on/off effect! ). However, the overall gain remains useful and there are plenty of sweet and killer tones to be had from this pedal throughout the entire range of your guitar's volume knob.
I was somewhat thrown by the fact that I got my best Hendrix tones ( and the best tones out of this pedal period ), from my 80's Westone Spectrum with a single Gibson classic bridge humbucker than I could with my MIM Strat. You know I was wanting the whole nostalgic package, Strat and fuzz face Hendrix thing. But anyway, this pedal sounds good and inspires my playing, it really excels with humbuckers! Or your Strat in the 2&4 positions. A chorus pedal really takes this fuzz to a whole new " experience ".

Sound Quality : 9
It sounds really good, I kind've covered the details of it in the ease of use section. But yeah it sounds really good, it gives you the Hendrix tone and feel, even if it is best with a humbucker to me. Running my Crybaby in front of it is definately effective, but it's alot more subtle than with an overdrive or straight into the amp wah. Im playing it through: MIM Strat or Westone (Gibson classic bridge humbucker) guitar, Korg tuner, Crybaby wah, JH-F1, Boss CE-5 chorus and a 60's Silvertone 1481 amp, and/or an Epiphone valve JR. combo.

Reliability : 10
It seems to be well built, we'll see how the switch holds up in time.

Never dealt with dunlop before, but they've been around for awhile and got a good reputation.

Overall Rating : 9
It's a good sounding fuzz for Hendrix and other classic rock music, it's got the sounds I bought it for. It would've been cool if they sounded best from my white, maple necked Strat, but either way Im getting the tones I wanted so it's all good.

Its easy to use 2 knobs volume and fuzz. For a beginning type guitarist this is all you need for a good hendrix emulation. For a seasoned player it has its problems. But as far as ease gos. its simple

Sound Quality : 5
I bought this a few months ago and since then i have gotten my dallas fuzz face back from analog man with the exact 67 germanium mod. This pedal compared to that one sounds like a lawnmower tryin to cut down grass thats too high. As stated above for a basic hendrix/clapton late 60's emulation this is a good value. But when you start getting better and you start walking down that long path to find "YOUR" sound you'll need soemthing else....but hey thats what ebays for...lol.

Reliability : 10
Its built liek a tank I don;t think it could ever be damaged unless you opened the case and had some cutco scissors in your hand or soemthing....I've had a few of these dunlop type things oevr the years and thev'e never let me down in this department...

I don;t knwo I've never had any problems so I've never had to call. I've heard jimmy dunlop is a cool guy but i doubt he'd be answer the phone anyhow....

Overall Rating : 6
if you read the above comments this will be simple...great for awhile till you get smart about tone....there are a few better fuzzes out there....Analog man SUN Face fuzz, diaz square face fuzz. But if you don;t have near $300 to drop for one of these beauties go to www.analogman.com and they will give you info on sending this hendrix pedal in to get expierienced.....and the gods made love....

BRILLIANT! I haven't had any trouble like is mentioned in the review before mine. I play bluesy rock, Hendrix, Cream...this delivers very 60s fuzz what I was looking for. It isn't noisy, very full and warm.

After my last reveiw I found that this pedal has one problem at least in my rig. If I use solely this pedal, it lowers the output signal a bit too much when switched on. But if I place a box that has volume control between the guitar and the Fuzz Face it works good. Note that the first pedal used isn't true bypass, I used Voodoo Lab Sparkle Drive (w/true bypass) before the Fuzz Face and it didn't have any affect to the volume problem. With Danelectro Daddy O (crap OD, but ovbiously works as a boost)switched off the volume is as desired. At least now I have some use for the Daddy O...but the fuzz is noisy.

This piece of metal is easy to use and to find a good sound. Just two controls, volume and fuzz.

Sound Quality : 9
I'm playing this with Epi Sheraton and Riviera to a Fender Blues Deluxe. This effect will affect to your treble a bit, but just a bit. I haven't tried to play anything remotely Hendrix, mainly brit rock and post-rock. I love fuzz distortion specially in some lead parts, it suits my style. The sound is very rich and full, but you'll have to look for your own preference.

Reliability : 9
I think I'd manage without a backup. I try not to buy backups for pedals, seems just a waste of money. I've had no trouble so far, but the hotpotz-switch may some day cause a bit trouble.

As much as said, I play modern poprock and this fuzz fits me very well. I've been playing for ten years now and have some pedals of which the crucial ones are this and Cool Cat. I would certainly search for a new fuzz if this was stolen, but I am not sure that would it be this one. If I have to name a thing that i dislike, it's the name "Jimi Hendrix" on the pedal. This feature doesn't make me a better musician and I believe this pedal isn't even the actual used by Hendrix. It just looks stupid.

i play henrix, which is a good match. i've been playing for about 11 years. i own a waw- waw pedal and a phase shifter. if my fuzz were lost or stolen i would buy it again, no other fuzz sounds better than this one. it sounds exacty like hendrix if you put the knobs right. it is better than all the fuzz's that i've tried. the sound of it helps me create songs when i practice. it's a great pedal.

More difficult than the simple layout (2 knobs, fuzz and volume) may suggest. Some careful tweaking of the volume control on your instrument is required to attain the most out of the unit.

Sound Quality : 9
If you've come here looking for warm ,tube emulating distortion or something that'll add a subtle bluesy crunch to your playing, then brother you've not only come to the wrong planet, YOU'RE IN THE WRONG GALAXY!!!
It's a FUZZ! so of course it sounds square wavey, that's what it does! And no it won't clean up when you roll of the instrument volume (even to 3!) but doing this will give you more definition, especially chords, and a lot more headroom, so you can whack your amp up and not risk losing the fuzz tone!
Yeah it's noisy, but I'd bet Hendrix's was too. I reckon that just adds to it's charm.
If you like fizzy, nasty distortion with less subtlety than a sledgehammer, then this little saucer shaped monster could certainly be a prime contender for a coveted place in your pedal board.
I can't give it 10 out of 10 'cos I haven't tried all the fuzzes out there but it beats the colorsound tone bender or any boss or dod attempt hands down!

Reliability : 10
I've had this for 10 years! It's been dsropped in a paint vat! HAD NEAT HYDROCHLORIC ACID POURED ALL OVER IT (SERIOUSLY), been left out in the frost! stamped on, thrown at people, run over.....etc
And never once has it failed to work!!!
It really is indestructable!

This is perfect for the kind of stuff i play. I use Les Pauls, Fuzz, shaller tremolo, vox ltd ed wah,Moogerfooger Ring modulator, moogerfooger Lowpass filter, watkins copicat(valve),Smallstone phaser into a seymour duncan convertible 2000! So not your average guitar set up!!
Sound great if used properly, if not you'll just lose volume and chords will lose all definition and power.
If it were lost I'd have to replace it, but not nessasarilly with this particular model. I'd have to A/B it with a ZVEX fuzz factory, roger mayer axis fuzz or Pete Cornish G or P fuzz, but these items are hand made and harder to find (not to mention considerably more expensive)but in the world of mass produced fuzz tones I'm sure this sits near the top of the pile.
And deservedly so!
