Dunlop Jimi Hendrix Fuzz Wah

It can be a little confusing setting up this pedal because there are so many options, there are buttons and swithes all over this thing... but it only takes about 30 mins to figure out wich settings sound good and wich sound bad.

I think overall it's a good pedal, with a slightly dry but def useable fuzz sound... the sweep is very narrow and those looking for big bouffant hairdo sweep sounds should look elswere, also funk players should stear well clear because the sweep just seems to cut in and out almost like a on/off switch. However it DOES have a really nice 60's vibe to it, i think it is close to the early wahs hendrix was using ala burning of the midnight lamp. I definitely would disagree with some of the negative comments about this pedal, just because it doenst meet your expectations it doesnt mean its a bad pedal.

I think it adds a certain vintage flavour that is not to everyones taste, and it's a bad pedal if you want certain types of wah sounds, but there is a narrow wah sweet spot that makes me like this pedal... plus you get a really good fuzz wich isnt too boomy or in youre face like a big muff.

Fender 1970 strat with Fralin 69' pups + Gibson SG. I got this for christmas never having tried it before. I was utterly disapointed. The wah has way too bassy of a sweep, but it definetly puts the "qu" in "quack" without the "ack". The fuzz was alright, but i found it wayy too harsh and doesn't even compare with my Arbiter Fuzz. Dunlop ruins all of the vintage effects.

DO NOT get this if you are looking for a hendrix sound, or anything vintage for that matter. If you want to shell out this much money for an effect, look at the Geoffrey Teese Real Mcoy Custom, and for fuzz look at Fulltone stuff, or as i have heard, Roger Mayer fuzz products. Look elsewhere for good products as Dunlop has utterly failed us all.

Very easy to use, your standard wah. The only complaint (as others have already noted) is the fuzz volume is on the bottom of the pedal. Apart from that, the wah/fuzz switches are a little small, but you get used to it after a while. It's not a big deal. On the bright side, the fuzz knob (that controls the amount of fuzz) is huge and easy to get to.

The sound of the wah is decent, I use it with my Marshall. The fuzz by itself has a pretty good tone, not too much metal or garage.

The fuzz-wah combo is where things are a bit muddy, concerning the "Wah/Fuzz" setting. Without rocking the pedal, it sounds ok (kinda like the Boss Hyper Fuzz FZ-2 on the "Fuzz 2" setting, but not as good.) Once you rock the pedal to use the wah though, it sounds pretty thin (the wah, not the fuzz) Going from no wah to full wah, there's a point in the middle where it suddenly "wahs out," it's not subtle at all, and it doesn't sound all that hot. This is probably due to the age of the pedal, but for the best "metal" wah sound just use the wah by itself and add distortion separately.

The "Fuzz/Wah" setting sounds great, it gives the sound a garage feel. Again, it reminds me of the Boss FZ-2 (on Fuzz 1 setting), but not as garage-y. When you rock the pedal it sounds great, not crappy like the "Wah/Fuzz" setting. It keeps its tone through the full sweep of the wah.

It hasn't failed on me yet. (and I got it used from a crappy pawn shop, that in itself says something about the quality...)

I play straightfoward rock along with more experimental stuff (Radiohead , Mogwai) and also straight guitar-pop (The Shins, etc.)

If it were stolen/lost I would definitely buy it again. I'm not that big a fan of wah in general (I'd never pay full price for it), it's not really essential to my playing style. This one was cheap so I said "Why not?" But yes, if you're looking for classic wah along with some goodies, this'll do just fine.

Pretty simple. You've got the classic stomp-hard on/off switch, a fuzz intensity knob on the side, a fuzz on/off switch on one side, and a matching fuzz/wah or wah/fuzz toggle switch on the other side. There's a fuzz volume knob on the bottom of all places, and the toggle switches are difficult to hit with your foot, so I decided to dock a few points for that. Seriously, who puts a knob on the BOTTOM of a pedal!?

Sounds great. The fuzz sounds pretty good (better than my Dallas Arbiter Fuzz Face reissue... man that thing was abysmal) and it actually sounds good with the wah (again, not something that could be said with the Fuzz Face). The wah by itself provides that classic wah sound from the 60's pretty well. Don't get this wah if dynamic range is your thing, because the wah itself is pretty flat, but then most wahs were back in the day. I knew that before I bought this wah, and that was what I wanted anyway, so I couldn't be more happy with it.

Some complain of Dunlop's reliability in general, but I've had probably 4-6 pedals from them and I haven't had a single problem with them, even the second-hand ones. Of course, I take care of my gear and I don't gig out very often, so that could have something to do with it. I don't think I'd run into any dependability issues with it though.

I've been playing for about 10 years now, mostly blues, classic rock, and a little of my own stuff, and this thing fits right in perfectly. Of course, there's not a whole lot I own that doesn't "fit right in perfectly", because the stuff I write is very ecclectic and varied as far as instrumentation (imagine analog synths, hand drums, and acoustic and electric guitars), so take it for what it's worth.

I would reccommend this pedal to anyone looking for a classic fuzz or wah sound. Like the guy said before, if you're reading this you're obviously interested, so go for it. It's a good sounding pedal.

Out of the box the toe switch would not work. I had to replace the cheap felt pad with a sturdy rubber pad of proper height. The pot taper is NOT linear AT ALL. There is NO midrange sensitivity. It's like a light switch - either all bass boost or all treble boost.

'62 SG special, 2001 Fender Strat with humbuckers in the bridge played through a Carvin SX200 amp with a tube screamer & a Digitech RP100.

This is NOT a recreation of Hendix's fuzz/wah sound. The fuzz effect is pretty sweet and highly adjustable but the WAH is probably the WORST I've ever used over the last 30 years.

Like a said, it didn't work right out of the box. I would NEVER use this on a gig - even with a backup - because Dunlop chose to put the AC adapter jack right behind the amp out jack. Rocking the pedal either results in the AC adapter cord being crushed under the pedal, pulls the AC adapter out of the jack (resulting in total silence!) and, in the worst case I encountered, the AC power supply (after being pulled out of the jack by rocking the pedal) grounded out against the guitar chord running into my Zoom 505 effects processor and fried the Zoom box. (I've since replaced the Zoom with a DigiTech RP100 and will NEVER use the Dunlop pedal in the circuit again.)

Using a battery didn't turn out to be a good option because powering both the wah and fuzz circuits drains them in under 2 hours.

E-mails to Tech suppport went unanswered. E-mails to Customer service WERE answered but, 4 weeks and half a dozen emails later they were unable (or unwilling) to supply their own OEM alternate pot model numbers so I could BUY a pot with a more linear taper and install it myself. They seemed more concerned with CYA efforts and continually dealt with it as a warranty problem EVEN THOUGH I SPECIFICALLY STATED I WAS WILLING TO 'FIX' IT MYSELF AND PAY THEM FOR THE REPLACEMENT POT.

Oh yeah: The last email I got from the head of customer service was to 'call him'. I tried twice and he was 'unavailable' both times and never called me back (it his convenience) after I had left my phone number.

Its very easy to use it does not take a rocket scientist. I did receive a manual but did not need it.

The sound quality was great at first, but after a while the fuzz started to sound very flat and bad and i just use the wah once in a while. Another problem is that it muddy's up the signal from the guitar when it is turned on or off.

You can depend on it it is made out of die-cast steel so it is very tough.

I play everything and it was a decent pedal, but overrated by its price. But i haggled for the price so it wasnt that much.

The pedel is great. It has real good feel and the switch is padded by rubber stopers

Love the fuzz, wah wah sounds. If you put the pedel in the right position you get an extreme fuzz and gain, which makes leads insane.

Great pedel. has the classic Crybaby sound along with a Hendrix twist.

It is very easy to use but sometimes the sound will change if you use the fuzz and then turn it off, that can get annoying if your trying to find the right sound.

The sound is somewhat good, but i dont even use the fuzz at all. When you use the fuzz and the wah and try to wah it sounds like crap so I just plug it into my Marshall 30 watt and I use the Marshall distortion not the fuzz on the pedal, it sounds a lot better.

It has never broken down on me, and the batteries last forever.

The wah pedal is good when i use it into my marshall amp but by itself it sucks. I have been playing guitar for about a 1 year and a 1/2 and when i go gigging it sounds good with the marshall amp. I play a lot of styles, funk, rock, punk, death metal, classic rock, blues, jazz, jazz fusion etc. and this pedal is pretty good for all of them.

The wah has a decent range and has that excellent motion/feel to it that can be found on any Dunlop wah pedal. It has some great features, like color coded led lights and a fuzz/wah wah/fuzz effect chain switch. The fuzz has volume and fuzz level dials, however, the fuzz level has this nice big rubber dial that you can use with your foot, while the fuzz volume is this tiny little dial on the bottom that you have to drop everything and get down on your knees to adjust. Although some people might complain about the little push switches on the side (for turning the fuzz on/off and the effect order) being difficult to use, you are still able to do it with your foot and they do work. I honestly can't see any other way of doing it. It's a bitch to get access to the battery (4 screws) and they put the AC adapter hole so close to the 1/4 hole that the two might touch and cause problems depending on the size of your adapter plug.

The fuzz is definitely of a good quality, very low down bumble bee type growl. One trick I do is to run my guitar through a high metal like gain stage with lots of treble, than click on the fuzz at it's lowest setting to complement the sound and give it some completeness and balls. It's also useful for giving a good volume boost on solos like Jimi used to do. The wah gushes low end, and is not typical of your everyday wah sound. If you're into doing high treble African style ska, this is not your pedal. It's probably better suited to a grunge style of music or hard rock. One thing that sucks about it is it failed miserably when I tried to use it in an effects loop. The instructions tell you to use it before the plug-in to your amp, and they were right! The effect just didn't sound very strong any other way. (of course I find this true of most any effect)

It's a Tank. Damn is it heavy! After 3 years of use it hasn't screwed up once. Then again, I take decent care of my equipment.

Never had to use it.

This pedal is a money saver. You get two mainstay guitar effects for one in a simple package. A high quality wah and a good fuzz, and it's easy to interchange the two with the simple movement of your foot. In the end though, I ended up replacing it with a 535Q to get all those other wah sounds. Being limited to just one wah range was starting to get to me. A fuzz face replaces that fuzz sound (the two are very similar) so I won't have to fiddle with that little volume knob ever again. Still, I ended up spending twice as much $$$ and now I have to fight with two sets of patch cords and adapters. So, it's give and take. I can totally see how this pedal is just made for some people and not others. For people who go crazy on effect machines and have a rack mount equalizer and are picky about particular types of reverb, look elsewhere and get a 535 or a digitech. This is more for the bare bones rocker who keeps it simple, with a guitar or two, one hell of a sweet amp, and maybe this. (and a delay pedal, gotta have delay!)

well i think it is easy as hell to use, even though the damn fuzz volume is in the bottom!!!!!!!! but its cool.

i have a sqieur strat..wich is not the best guitar....when i strap on that wah the sounds blows me away i think it rocks. and the fuzz is great too. when i play voodoo child with the wah you cant tell me from hendrix. Go Get it now!!!!!!

This is one amazing pedal!!

Pretty easy to use. However, there is a little red button on the side of the unit to turn on the Fuzz. As previously stated this could be a problem for live performances. It's just too damn small. I might make a switch for it.

2 Strats (One with Texas Specials and the other with a SeyDuncan and a Dimarzio Fast Track 2) with a Z00M 1010 Precessor going into a Marshall Valvestate 102R. It's sounds pretty good and the fuz is great. Both effects combined also sound real good. Try it before you buy it.

I like it, I wanted a Wah and the Fuzz was like a bonus. I have been goofing around with the guitar for about 7 years and I think this is staple. Try it before you buy it.

Pretty simple to use. My only complaint is that to turn on the fuzz you have to press a little small red button on the side of the pedal (Not recomedable trying to do this with your foot in a performance).

The distortion is pretty much your average fuzz pedal. Nothing too fancy. The Wah is pretty good but the range could be better.

It's lasted me 2 years so far.

If your are after a true wah sound, get a cry baby instead.

This pedal is pretty simple to use, just set the fuzz volume on the bottom of the pedal, and play away. Then activate the fuzz by clicking in the button on the right side. You can also set the fuzz intensity on the side of the pedal. The wah pedal is a little difficult to push in at first.

I play this through a Fender 112 Deluxe, and it sounds good. The wah sounds like it bottoms out sometimes, and there is a harsh picking sound if you rock it in the right timing with your strumming when the fuzz is on. I wish the wah sound was a little wider tonaly (if thats a word).

My pedal is currently broken. The wah has stopped working every now and then when you rock the pedal. It sounds like someone is turning it on and off while I am playing. It worked fine for exactly a year.

I am in the process of dealing with the company about fixing it.

If I had a choice to buy this again or not, I wouldn't. I would buy the Dallas Arbiter Fuzz and the Crybaby Q535. I think that would give me more of a true Jimi Hendrix warm fuzz than this pedal and a wider wah range.

I love this pedal, yet I have several complaints in this area. One, the fuzz volume is on the bottom of the pedal. What were they thinking when they put it there? Two the button for the fuzz faces out on the side of the pedal. It takes some getting used to until you can turn it on reliably.

The wah wah pedal itself is unbeatable. Really great for that classic sixties and seventies sound. The range of the pedal is huge. It opens to a ridiculously fat sound. The fuzz leaves more to be desired, I think you need to get an origional Dallas Arbiter if you want that true tone. The fuzz is pretty nice and bluesy from about 0-3/8. For a true Hendrix tone try 1/2-6/8. Above that it's just a bunch of noise. The fuzz itself is very brittle. Not as warm as Hendrix.

Definately a dependable pedal. Very sturdy construction. No problems here. I think all Dunlop products are made very well.

Mine was actually broken out of the box. The company was a little slow replacing it, it had to be sent to Chicago, it took two weeks. However, there were no questions asked and I got a brand new pedal?no charge.

I really love this pedal. If you're a Hendrix fan, buy it. It might be hard to turn on the fuzz, but just kick it in the side and it will work. I would definately buy it again, even for just the wah. I'm going to try modifing the fuzz, that might help. However it's really not that bad. One last note: If you're a Beatles fan, the fuzz on 1/2 and a little compression captures the later Harrison and Lennon sound PERFECTLY. I'd recommmend this to anybody who actually took the time to come and read this posting. You're obviously interestead, so buy it.

it takes some time figuring out, there is a setting for fuzz-wah and wah-fuzz, i prefer the second, and why is the fuzz volume on the BOTTOM ? and they two sideways buttons are harder to use then stomp buttons, this is especially irritating when i try to activate the fuzz, and but it is possible to adjust the fuzz intensity while playing, best played in stocking feet.it takes some dialing in before you can find appropriate settings.

the wah sound is great and i can get really intese high piched squeals, like any wah the volume drops some when it is activated, i'd like a bit more wah range, i think my plain cry baby had more range, the fuzz sound is weak, and too bassy, there should be a fuzz tone control, it is s'posed to have the dallas arbiter fuzz face guts. it sounds too fuzzy and not at all like jimi hendrix's fuzz tone, but i like it in conjunction with another distortion unit which i place AFTER the unit. i like to turn on my flanger, the wah and the fuzz and send it through my distortion for over an over the top solo sound

totally reliable, though on some crybaby's the ac input which is soldered to the board can come loose with use, but it is easily mended
