Either there are a few different versions of this pedal, or some of the other people who wrote a review of it are confused. Mine is a Mister Crybaby Super Volume Wah, model number EW95V. In regular mode it's a volume pedal - rock the pedal backward to reduce the volume, rock forward to increase it. There's a switch on the side to activate boost, and a knob on the side to control the amount of boost. You can definitely hear it when you have full boost engaged; it's enough to go from clean to crunchy on an amp, for example. Now, if you rock the pedal all the way forward (i.e. to full volume) and then put some weight on your toe, you activate the wah. Boost is then deactivated. You'll be leaning over the pedal in order to put your weight on your toe, so you will see a little LED light up which indicates that wah mode is active. Not to mention that you'll hear it...
I mean, seriously. It's multifunctional, and it's easy. There are no patches to edit or interrelated settings to adjust - you just need to coordinate your foot with your playing. If you can tap your foot, you can use a wah pedal. It's not rocket science.

I play a Fender California Series Strat (with Tex Mex overwound single coils) and a Teisco short-scale thing from the 60s, through a bunch of pedals and into a Marshall Valvestate. When I bought this thing, I was into grunge and wanted to sound like the guy from Pearl Jam or Hendrix. It'll do those sounds; it's got a nice, classic feel to it, I think. Now I play post-rock/noise, and to the extent that wah is useful for such things (not so much!), it does that sound too.
I've never noticed any tone-sucking from this thing in volume mode. In wah mode, isn't the whole point that it sucks tone? It's a bandpass filter. It filters out everything except a particular band of frequencies. Naturally, this sucks tone. If your single coils hum, then in wah mode, you'll be applying a bandpass filter (AKA wah) to your hum, so the hum may sound more pronounced, depending on where you've rocked your pedal. This is natural.
Anyway, I like it a lot for what it is. It's a wah. Wahs are cranky, noisy pedals, but this is a nice-sounding wah. It favours higher frequencies a bit, maybe; good with bright pickups.

The pots inside these things can sometimes wear out. But you can always replace them if you do. I've had mine for almost 8 years, and it's still going strong. It must take a fair amount of effort to wear the pot out.
I've never had a backup for anything I've ever used at a gig. But even if you can afford to have backups, you won't need one here. Crybabies feel like they're made of cast iron. I wouldn't want to have one thrown at me.

I've been playing guitar and other stuff for 10 years or so. These days a lot of what I do is noisy, delay-based post-rock stuff. Wah's a pretty bombastic, recognisable effect, so it doesn't totally fit into what I'm doing. But I still have kind of a soft spot for the Mister Crybaby, even if it isn't a regular in my setup.
I bought my Mister Crybaby Super new, almost 8 years ago - mine is the older model with the rubber coating on the boost knob. At the time, I just wanted a wah pedal; I didn't do a lot of shopping around. But I'm glad I got this one - it's got a classic sound to it, it's multifunctional, and it's easy to use. I don't know why some people are so hasty to rip into it. They seem to sell pretty cheap second-hand, so if you see one, give it a go.

People are being WAY too nice towards this pedal... most likely because they thought it would be a great one, spent the money, and don't realize the disadvantages.
This is NOT easy to use!! While you simply rock your foot back and forth, you have to move your foot back before stepping on the wah, this makes your volume go down. That is not a good feature. It makes it VERY difficult to switch to wah without a gap in your sound.

The quality is OK. The plain old crybaby has a wider range of wah. The VOX still outperforms both. The pots can be noisy. It does not take long for one to crackle, and while you don't notice a little crackle with the wah effect, it is horrid on the volume.
The volume part of this pedal boggles me. It is NOT smooth. Most volumes are smooth in which the movement of the pedal gradually increases the volume. This one is drastic... almost ON/OFF. It is useless to me. You can not perform volume sweels well, and it is so touchy, you might accidently step onto the wah when only trying ot boost your volume. If you like ot play at different volumes, forget it. You will not find it easy to set your volume using this pedal- like I said, so drastic, it's almost on or off

Dunlop crybaby's are known ot be reliable, but honestly, this is the second one I've had break orbe noisy as hell. Go with vox- it sounds better and I've known everyone who has one to love it. It is not as ear piercing either. You will be much happier

My pedal couldn't be fixed for the noise it was making. They said I had to buy a new one. I don't have such disposable income to throw away $100 everytime this breaks (which will be every few months)

You won't be happy... simple as that. this 2 in one pedal is garbage. I'm tempted to try out one of the morley ones, but I'd rather stick to 2 seperate pedals for these functions.

its not that hard to figure out. i bought mine used so i had no manual and i knew how to use it in like 30 minutes. i see some people complain about the switching being "too hard". all you have to do is raise the button under the sweeper thing. the boost seems to pick up the bass but it makes unnecessary noise so i use an EQ.

i love the way it sounds. i hear some people complain that it did not sound good with the distortion. the way you have the pedals set up is important. if you have trouble when you run the wah through the distortion, reverse the way they are set up. i cant remember which way i did it but it works. the volume is cool too.

the thing is a tank. the components are sealed tkeep out dust and ive dropped it about a thousand times. i would trust this thing to work without a backup in 20 years. unless you buy another dunlop or boss i dont think you could find a back up youd be satisfied with.

i like playing stuff like hendrix and cream and the thing is perfect. ive tried morleys and vintage wahs and none came close. the only thing i dislike is a slight hum it makes. thats ok because i think theyve yet to come up with a completely silent wah. i dont think i would ever be able to afford one new though.

There's not much too it. It's a pedal, you rock your foot back and forth. If you press hard you change it from wah to volume. There is a little button on the side that is a "boost" or something. I can detect a little change but nothing big. I leave the boost on just for the hell of it.

Before I bought this pedal I just wanted a wah pedal. I saw one that could do volume too in musicians's friend so I figured why not. It took 3-4 months for them to finally get it to me, I was not happy about that. After I finally got it I played with the wah for about 3 days. It's a nice wah, I haven't heard many others to compare. But what I really found to be nice is the volume. That is really handy! I always try to have a lot of dynamics in my music. It's just like being able to control your guitar volume all the time. Many times I come out of a huge distortion riff and suddenly drop the volume down (sometimes hard not to cut the sound completely) to a quieter part. I mainly now just use the wah for playing the beginning to Pretty Noose by Soundgarden when I just feel like it.

This thing is solid. A few days ago I had it in a gym bag and it swung into my knee. OW!
I've never had any problems with it. One time I thought it was dead but it turned out the bassist had stepped on the power cable and disconnected it a little.
I would gig without a backup, I don't think I could break it without some special tools.

Never dealt with the manufacturer. I did have to wait a hell of a long time to get it but that was musicians friend's fault.

I mostly play alernative to grunge to metal. Thing thing is a good buy for anybody that wants dynamics in their music and wouldn't mind some wah in the same package. If it were stolen I'd probably get a new one. I find I use it more and more. I'm pretty much dependant on it now.

It's a petal. Step on it and it works. It came with a piece of paper that is very helful if you somehow need help with it.... You can use it upside down too (serious).

This thing rocks!! It has the infamous cry baby effect and volume put together. I am using it in a guitar\crybaby\distortion\amp setup. You can really immitate some of jimi hendrix's songs with this thing. The volume does not boost anything at all. It works great for fade out though (easier than using the nob on your guitar). I can't tell of any noise with this thing (only the noise from my 25watt amp).

It's a dunlop. You might as well try to break a rock. I will probably ware it out soon because I use the thing night and day. Take it to a gig and throw it at your drummer.

Get this petal. I would probably buy it again, but I may look at the jimi hendrix fuzzwah just because my distortion is crap and I don't have $50 to spend on a fuzz box. If it was stolen I would rip of the head of the person whom stole it and steal their amp. If your considering buying a morley over this I will rip your head off too and steal your amp or amps. Gee... A volume pedal, and when you push down a the top, it becomes a wah pedal. The volume boost feature is simply a button on the side, with a knob for the amount.

This is a really useful pedal! It's a Crybaby, so it does wah well... but the volume function is were this thing pulls out the stops. Use a nice mod+delay+rev patch and you can do some really cool stuff. It also helps when you're playing clean and need to be able to control your volume. It does bring out the hum,but only with single coils. I abslutely love this pedal.

I love this device. It's versatile, and it's inspiring. I would buy one again. HOWEVER--- I haven't been able to find any with the boost feature. I've checked catalogs, stores, and even the place I bought it, but nobody knew what I was taking about! Good luck...
