In stereo, it's the best analog rotary speaker emulator ever, read CLS222 reviews. It's the same beast except for by-pass and extra stereo width parameter. I've owned both ( 222 and 22 ) and the sound is the same. There is a little noise so it needs you to maximise its settings by providing enough input volume. The noise can only be heard then in studio conditions when there is no noise coming from other sources as well. The noise in relation to the sound ( signal to noise ratio ) is well above the mechanical noise you get from a Leslie in any case. As it uses bbd circuitry there is bound to be a small amount of noise, and the noise you can hear is the rotating sound, not hum.

Mine's been working since it was first manufactured in the 80's. A tech I know had a look at the circuit diagram and said most items could easily be replaced if needed. The BBD chips are sometimes sold on Ebay.

It makes a standard organ clone sing. I much prefer its simulation to the one on my XK-3. It excels in both speeds, and ramps up and down like the real deal.

plug instrument in, adjust the gain, choose your sound (mono, stereo or ulta-stereo [which i prefer best]) and thats it. Quite easy.

I'm using the unit with a Kurzweil K2000 and some organ-samples and it was the first time, my band (blues/soul/rock) accepted my "hammond" sound. I am driving it with a H&K tubeman for some real tube distortion (its a mesaboogie tube which make "my" sound), just for a little crunch. (and sometimes more ;-) Sine i am using the cls-22 every hearing my organ sound says "hey, thats deep purple". That is what i wanted since - i don't know when.
The sound is warm and if i want screamy, and as a real leslie, that i played some 10 years ago, nearby any sound i put through it fills the room with "a special colour". A clavinet sound as well as a rhodes. Its great!
Only bad point is that the signal/noise ratio is quite low and you got to adjust the gain sensitive, not to produce internal overdrive (which will sound very sharp) and to minimize noise and hum of the analog circuits. But its only vulnarable in the "high" tones so this is not a "big deal". The sound is amazing!
Since i use the CLS-22 i prefer using simple stage monitors, before i was using a fender (guitar) amp to hear my "own" sound. I thing i got closer to the audience now...

No problems till now, got to use is without backup because i have none (looking for it...). (Its like my old K2000 from 1991...)

This was a great deal - it was my personal christmas present 2002 (the 123,56 euro was the price, really! [so i remember it well;-)])
I am doing music in band since about 1985, mainly piano, analog synthesizers and (rock) organ... (some guitar and bass to, on which this unit can also generate wonderful sounds [like pink floyd echoes])
I would by it again, anytime.
Compared with other leslie simulation i played (digital or analog) it sounds very "unsimulated". It feels very near to a real leslie... that all

Close to a real Leslie. Slightly different than a CLS-222.

Fairly reliable. There is a problem with the way the pots are mounted to the PC board but that can be fixed with short wires.

I bought this on ebay where it was advertised as a CLS222. I had never heard of a CLS22 and did not know that they existed. It has the black face and it does sound a little different than the CLS222. There are only 2 stereo modes instead of three and there is no mono jack on the back (not a problem). The internal circuitry look very similar to the CLS222 with a few additions to accomodate the 3 stereo modes. I haven't decided yet if I like it as well as the CLS222. If anyone is familiar with the 22 I would love to get some background. It appears that it is either a pre CLS222 or a cheaper version.
