Very easy to use, came in a cute cartboard box, with a small paper with instructions on it, recycled paper is used, wich is sweet... Read the mini-manual and plug in...

Sound Quality : 9
Can't really compare with other autofilters, I compared it in the store and,and as said before, this one is really touch sensitive... Like the sound very much, from ducky funny to a wahwah...
It's super fun to play and reacts to what you do, I use my trusty modded crybaby a lot less, which is nice, the footwork started to get annoying.
I used it on a gibson les paul custom , gretsch anniversary and a tele,on a Diezel VH4 with a hughes & kettner replex, a modded turbo tube screamer, hairy balls fuzz, boss tuner pedal and a crybaby, all sound great with it...Trying to get one for my bass player as an anniversary gift, hope he likes it, it isn't cheap, but hey, you get what you pay for...

Reliability : 9
Haven't had any trouble yet...

Customer Support : 8
Haven't had any contact, don't need to I think...
Maybe I am gonna modify it so that the up/down switch is an extra stomp switch,I like both the settings a lot and would like to change it without bending over...

Overall Rating : 10
I have been playing guitar since I was 7 or so, now I am 25, never before I had the need for an autofilter , but now I am starting to play funk and leave those metal days behind...
In my opinion, every funk-player needs one of these, fantastic pedal!

Tkes some playing with to dial it in, but the sounds are there waiting.

Sound Quality : No Opinion
Excellent, if used properly it will preserve some high end and attack. This is probably what makes it better than most others. I have tried them all and this one is up there at the top. That and the fact that it is so touch sensitive. The 'issue' with these type of touch senistive filters is you have to have a strong enough signal to really delve into the potential of the pedal. This means if you have a guitar with ordinary output single coils, you may need to engage a boost, etc. to tap into the bolder sounds. That or you can install a series swicth on your guitar like I have on my Tele.

So far so good.

This a follow up to my original review. Before trading my DiscumBOBulator for what I thought was a minor defect (it seemed to have a slight intermittant electonic popping noise) I did some trouble shooting and discovered the problem was in the power supply I was using. I'm glad I did and have kept my Emma. In all my years of searching for the ultimate envelope, I believe it's the DicumBOBulator. It is just a nice, fat, round tone that plays well with distortion and is just as at home playing clean. Gotta go, my Emma's calling!

The Discumbobulator does what it does very well. It's not as versatile as a Q-Tron or even the Maxon Auto Filterbut it does sound pretty awesome. The Discumbobulator does up/down envelope and has an excellent range that's usable for any type of music. It doesn't really get extreme which doesn't bother me. It has 3 knobs (sensitivity, width, and attack) and the afforementioned up/down switch. It is pretty plug and play ready and each user shouldn't have a problem dialing in their toene.

Sound Quality : 9
I love that Garcia envelope tone and the classic Wahs of Hendrix and Clapton so that's usually the sound I'm most closely trying to replicate (although I want it to be my sound, but that's where I got my first tastes of envelope/wah). The Emma does very well clean or followed by distortion/od and I haven't noticed any extra noise added to my tone. I GOT MINE USED AND IT DOES INTRODUCE AN OCCASIONAL AND DISTRACTING ELECTRONIC POP WHICH IS THE ONLY REASON I'M NOT KEEPING THIS ONE. Tonewise though, I'm very happy with it and I may try to get a new one. I play Takamine acoustic/electrics into Fishman Loudbox amps with some od/mod effects/delays and the Emma enhances my sound (excepting the popping noise).

Reliability : 7
I'll give it a 7 only because of my experience. I'm sure they are well built products as it seems very solidly constructed.

Overall Rating : 8
I play Dead/Dylan/Beatles/Peter Rowan/John Prine/traditional/folkadelic/jam-based stuff. Those listed should give a good idea of a base of interests but I play just about everything; if I like it and can learn it I'll play it. I've been playing for 30 years and have owned or own Q-Trons, the Maxon Auto Filter, a bunch of Boss Auto Wahs, a Pigtronix Envelope Phaser, and a few others including various multi effects with envelopes in 'em. The Emma is among the tops in the category as far as tone goes. The Q-Tron is more versatile though but does what the Emma does. The Maxon is more synthy and is as chewy but has a slight warble on it's filter that bugged me. Boss isn't bad, just not as organic as the 3 I just mentioned. The Pigtronix kicks butt, but is really a phaser that can be controlled via LFO or envelope (still it's really cool and can get that Garcia tone). So, I'm returning my Emma not because of tone, but because of an electric noise that shouldn't be there (remember I got it used). I still have an E-H Micro Q-Tron + and a Pigtonix Envelope Phaser as well as an Adrenalinn so I'm covered for envelope tones. I'll get another Emma if I come across one new. Peace.

This box is a little deceptive with its sound. good timbre, and i have to say it is pretty easy to use, but it will probably take a litte experimenting to find the sound for you. and pay attention to the fact that it has an Up and a Down function. They are really fun to switch between. The manual is very simplistic. i would have liked a better explaination of the pedal, but whatever. Take the time to get to know it.

Sound Quality : 8
good sound quality. i give it an eight because i would like even more control over the pedal (maybe a sweep function through an external pedal). It is funky--it will surprise you, and it is worth the money. No real noise. effects do take some tweaking but that is normal with any box. on some settings it is difficult to get a good sound out of it. but still, worth the cash. buy it or at least try it out.

Reliability : 8
again an eight, because when i bought this (a floor model) the nuts on the pots were very loose and had to be retightened. that shouldn't have happened. But I will be gigging without a backup and i am not worried about any further problems. The pedal is pretty solid.

Customer Support : No Opinion
have not had to deal with them.

Overall Rating : 9
I like this pedal. it can really surprise me sometimes, and there are times when i run it in the Down mode along side of my wah to get some great definition on the front and back. Up mode is a good sound to. Overall, worth it. And what borderline boutique pedal won't run you a few bucks. Listen to the reviews too--these pedals and their sound is pretty solid

true bypass. nice range of up and down sounds. i have a whole string of effects and the discumbobulator cuts through pretty well most of the time. i use it with my guitars through an old Supro model 24 and i have a hard time turning the pedal off some days cause it sounds so unique.

Reliability : 9
yes, i would and do gig without backup. pretty solidly built. it was the demo model at the guitar store where i bought it, and the nuts had come a little loose, but i tightened em up and have had no complaints since. like

i have had other filters including the baseballs and moog pedals. i prefer the EMMA--the Discumbobulator is clean sounding and has very flexible and playable settings. it is built solid and can be used for many different styles of music, and the price is right too. cool name, good design, and check out the reviews in the mags and on verious websites if you dont believe me.

This box is OK. I think a bigger or less delicate sensitivity pot is a necessity with this effect unit. For now I???m still trying to hone in on a good burp sound and I think I could find it but I go to sensitive or it???s too filtered and never pops. A big dial that has some resistance to it would allow me to fine tune this better.

Sound Quality : 6
Garcia isn't happening here. Maybe some funky chickin pickin but no good burps with both high and lows

Reliability : 4
Also I find that my settings are changed each time I open my effects case up. These knobs are loose and need some resistance from turning around. I will be shoving foam washers under the knobs to see if this helps.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Didn't break it yet! doesn't look as sturdy as the MXR envelope. The back is black foam pad and my sticky velcro wont stick to it. So if it keeps on bouncing around I'm sure I'll be updating this comment soon.

Overall Rating : 5
I have a MXR envelope and liked it. It just got too old and bounced around too much for me to rely each night on it. Also I couldn???t get an even envelope on both highs and lows without sacrificing one or the other.
I am still actively searching for an envelope that has a crossover that would process high and lows separately???.and allow options for each so I can get the big burp that I need.
If you find it or make it let me know!

Plug it in. Get good sound. Period. The manual is short and sweet, with a couple suggestions. You won't need it. The "Up/Down" control allows you to firmly control the sound you want.

Sound Quality : 10
Unlike other envelope filters I have used, such as the Q-Tron. There is no tonality or volume loss when this is plugged in and running. When off, it sounds just like it would if you were running direct. When on, it sounds amazing. Crank up the sensitivity and the attack and suddenly you're in a 70s porn flick.

Reliability : 8
Looks solid. I don't think you'd need to be concerned about it breaking. I haven't been.

There's only 3 knobs and 1 switch, and I haven't heard a bad sound yet. It's easy to get a lot of different sounds, from slightly funky to completely wet. The manual is very brief, but it's certainly enough to get you started.

Sound Quality : 10
I play a Pedulla Rapture J2 bass through an Eden WT-400 and Eden 210XLT, and the DiscumBOBulator is funky as hell! To be honest, I first played it on my practice amp and thought it sounded pretty good, but wasn't sure if I had made the right choice. A couple of days later, I played it on a gig and it just blew me away. It wasn't until I heard it with my band that I realized what I was missing with my old BassBalls.

Everything I had heard about the DiscumBOBulator here right on: no low-end loss (very important for bass), no tone coloration...just funky, organic, musical envelope filter. And the sensitivity is so fantastic that I am able to completely control when the filter opens just from how hard I play. I'm still getting used to how the controls work, but I haven't found a bad sound yet.

The discombobulator it's noisy, i've try with my amps, with other marshall and fender amp and still not noisy. The effect it's cool with guitars but with bass... It's easy to use, but u can find many different sounds. Yet they're of very good quality.

Sound Quality : 10
I think autowah or envelope filter is underestimated as an effect. That might be because it's so difficult make an autowah pedal, which sounds good (or fantastic). I've tried so many and I've been disappointed so many times. When I bought EMMA I tried it in a music store and thought it was the best I`ve ever tried. So I bought it and for my surprise it is one of those pedals which you begin to like more and more every time you use it. It's great live and it's great when recording. It's not cheap, but one thing you just can't get is a good and cheap autowah! This, I think, is the first ten I've ever given in a review, but I just have to give it.

Sound Quality : 10
oddly enough it's so transparent that if you don't hit the strings too hard the effect doesn't do anything so you don't really need to turn it off. Maybe I have the sensitivity too high but still it's great fun. Soundsa wesome, see overall comments below.

Seems ok to me, had all sorts of trouble with my wah-wah pedal picking up weird airwaves so maybe I'll use the EMMA instead. Mind you I've only ever broken 1 pedal ....

Excellent sound straight out of the box, easy to use and a one page booklet with 4 very usable settings. Don't get any better than that!

Sound Quality : 9
I use this pedal with a Modulus Flea or old Fender P bass through a Eden cab and Warwick Pro Tube head. It's 1st in my effects chain which goes Emma-EH Micro Synth-MXR Micro Amp- DAM Overdrive. The pedal isn't noisy at all and has true bypass when not in use. The sound is the best envelope filter i've ever heard on bass. I've used an EH Bassballs, Q-Tron & DOD FX25 before and this Emma pedal is in a different league. I could never rely on the Q-tron or Dod to make the wah sound without nearly snapping the strings and they also had a loss of volume which was useless in live gig situations.

Reliability : 6
You can guarantee on the quality of the sound as opposed to the other filters i've mentioned but in terms of build quality there is room for improvement. The toggle switch became faulty on mine after the second day of buying it. It cut out whenever the toggle was put in the UP position.

Customer Support : 5
When i discovered the fault with my pedal i emailed EMMA to see if there was an easy fix i could do myself. I'm still waiting for a reply. (maybe they don't speak English)?? Also they don't have a website to get info from.
Although i sent the pedal back to Charlie Chandlers where i bought it from and received a brand new replacement within 2 days which was Excellent service.

Overall Rating : 9
Buying effects pedals is one of the most frustrating things in the world. The excitement of bringing home a new box of tricks and creative opportunities then a week later it's not up to the job and ends up on ebay. Then like a spek of gold in a dung heap a pedal comes along that's actually worth keeping. The Emma is definitely for keeps and no bass should be without one in my opinion. I must admit i'm still tempted to try a Mu-Tron III but at twice the price i'd bet all the money in the world on it not being twice as good as the Emma. After all "if it's not broke don't fix it" and if it is broke don't waste your time emailing Denmark.

They don't come any easier I guess: Sensitivity, Width and Attack pots and an Up/Down mini-toggle swith. All work silently and accurate. The "manual" is refreshingly concise (a true one-pager) but "spot on" with 4 usuable examples to start from.

Sound Quality : 10
4-string custom Jazz bass (Alembic Activators, DR Fat Beams) or Alembic 5-string Signature --> Boss BCB60 pedal board (9V power included) containing: Boss tuner>THE EMMA>Tech 21 Bass Driver DI>Boss RC20 Loopstation> Boss OC-2 Octaver> Boss volume pedal into either Glockenklang Bass Art preamp or Spirit Folio Notepad mixer, both hooked up to an AKG Studio Monitor pair of headphones.
Pedal is dead quiet and bypass doesn't affect the signal. On/off step-on swiches silently, up/down produces a bit of a "plop" but I guess no one kneels down to change settings mid-air.

I deliberately ignore the request to avoid the "new gear rush" because for bass players, a lot of (non-studio quality) effects are true sound killers, draining all the liveliness and energy. So, when you're (still) on the lookout for a wah pedal that respects the quality and sound of your instrument, this is the one. NO low end loss! The low notes too get great "vowelly" wahs, nicely & evenly spread over the sustain of a note. Yet, just as easily it tracks fast playing / slapping. Very senstive to your playing too, so you can have the filter open up as much as you want just by changing your touch. Lovely.

Reliability : 8
Solid construction (all metal with a slab of rubber on the bottom). The on/off step on switch doesn't feel as sturdy as the one on e.g. my Bass Driver DI. A lot of course depends on how you treat your stuff (the BCB 60 pedalcase helps a lot)

My previous "wah experiences" have been with a Boss AW-3 and a Boss Bass synth pedal but they're no real competition. I guess if you're looking for something that totally changes your sound (I like Bootsy for his funk, but not for his sound.....) this is not your pedal. When you want phat funky wah without impairing the ability to sound like a bass guitar, this is the one! Despite its price I would definitely get a new one.

very easy to dial in a tone you need for particular sounds, just be careful not to bump a dial w/ your foot or hand because the dials are very sensative. there's a wide variety of filter sounds to be had.

Sound Quality : 10
i use a, '83 ibanez am50 (semi-hollow)>discombobulator >analogman comp >2 ts9's >wah probe >dd-3 >fender deville 4-10.
If you like to funk you will dig this pedal. it's as dynamicaly sensative as it possibly could be, i put it in front of my comp to keep the dynamics. volume swells sound beutiful w/ this pedal. it tracks fast notes ala Pat Martino. i can make my guitar sound like a chicken, scratching sounds awsome, and im stoked to see how a chorus pedal sounds with it. finkerpicking yeilds trippy flavors as well as holding a chord and striking low mid, and high strings. you can recreate old auto wahs and it will sound just as fat, ive compared with my bro's vintage mutron and it chirps just as much funk. the down switch position yeilds even more sweet vibrations. if you are creative with music this pedal is worth puting on your board. i play my own mixture of jam containing: jazz, funk, disco, dead, rasta, trance. this peadal is an expresion tool.
i also have to say that effects are cool but they must be used to compliment your playing, there are too many crapy players out there that focus more on effects and gizmos than actually playing. don't buy awsome expensive equipment untill you have the chops to make good music. if you got nothin to say in music, this pedal isn't worth anything to you.

Reliability : No Opinion
have only had it for a few weeks, i wouldn't buy a backup, too expensive, the only concern about this peadal is the small togle switch, ill see how it lasts.

This is a *long-term* follow up to my earlier review. Still love the Discumbobulator, but wanted to mention a few things now that this pedal is now back in production. The up/down toggle failed on mine, so let's hope Emma is using a hardier switch now. To bad there is no direct contact for Emma available. I would like to suggest to them that gooping up the bypass switch will make it a real PITA to replace when the time comes (there is a big gob of silicone snot on the back of the bypass switch). Can't blame them for sanding off the part #s on the chips, but long-term that makes for a problem if they need to be replaced. I am also not a fan of the foam covered bottom, as it makes it a hassle to attach velcro for pedalboard use. Overall I still think is probably the best value in envelope filter/ auto wah pedals on the market and would buy one again.

This pedal blows away any other "AutoWah" or envelope filter pedal. I tried them all, and it took a while lemme tell you, but finally I found this one. It oozes with wah. Every note and nuance I play (electric violin) this thing just spews funk and wetness. Really warm, really intense wah, regardless at what speed I'm playing. I must say I love the friggin thing.

With only three knobs and one switch, this pedal is extremely easy to use. However, there are so many different sounds in this thing, and all of the controls work very sensitively with eachother. The slightest changes effects how the other controls react. There are knobs for attack, sensitivity, and width, and also an up/down switch. The instructions show four very useful examples to start with. Very easy to use...

Sound Quality : 10
This filter sounds awesome!! Probably the best I've heard considering the size and the price of the unit. I've compared it with a mutron, and a menatone, and the EMMA is by far my favorite. Sounds very thick and analog, as well as very clean and quiet. You can dial in just about any envelope filter sound you can think of. Im using this as follows: Gibson Les-Paul Custom>EMMA>TS-9>MXR EQ>MURF>Fender Bassman. It sounds great and works well with other effects. You can sound like Garcia, or create your own unique envelope sound. Great pedal!

Reliability : 9
Seems very well built, entirely by hand, and looks like it will last forever. The only problem may be with the up/down toggle switch being so small, but we'll find out with time. Definetly would not require a back-up,

Im running my PRS McCarty into the EMMA and then into my Mesa Boogie Mark III. This thing sounds great! I used to have a Moogerfooger Low-pass filter, and the discumBOBulator brings that sound to mind. Very fat and analog filtering, responding on spot to every naunce. Chords sound great too, and this pedal is the perfect compliment to the funkiest playing. It nails the parliment sound, as well as it channels Jerry Garcia out through the amp. I like the "UP" setting personally, great auto-wah sound that certainly beats any digital processor. Its also super quiet. I really love the sound of this pedal!!! :)

Seems very reliable... however mine doesnt have a serial number on it... and there was also about 2 weeks between the time I purhased the pedal and the time I recieved it... so I hope I can still get a warranty on it! (I just got the pedal about a week ago). Hopefully I wont need to rely on a warranty. This pedal seems pretty solid though, and I will definetly be playing out without a backup. It gets an 8/10 because of my warranty issue, even though thats not the pedals fault!

Customer Support : No Opinion
Considering EMMA Electronic doesn't have a website, and the one website the manual lists is in Dutch, the customer support seems pretty non-existent so far. Godlyke distributes these pedals however, and also provides the warranty, so possibly they make up for the lack of actual company customer support. Considering they are handmade, you'd think the maker would back up his pedals... It all very confusing...

I really like this pedal, and recommend it to anyone looking for that mutron/moog sound, without taking up your whole pedal board. Its kinda like they took that sound and squished it into a smaller box. It nails that genuine envelope sound, along with bringing in some new cards to the table. It is really a unique peice of auto-wah! $170 is a small price to pay for this handmade pedal boasting such great sound. Its won me over!!!

Very intuitive and flexible. Can quickly move from *Radiohead ambient* to *70's Porn Soundtrack*. The up/down switch is the secret weapon. Works well with both single-coil and humbuckers. The sample settings included with mine are a great place to start, but by no means the only useful settings.

I really love the sound of this thing. Sounds great with all my guitars. Very vocal and expressive. Responds well to guitar volume knob and variations in picking technique ( especially hybrid fingerstyle ). Behaves well with my other pedals, and works well in various points in the signal chain (i.e. pre/post distortion, etc. ). I am not an Orthodox Bypass Fetishist, so I can't say what exact denomination of bypass this pedal is. Works well in my setup of standard stompboxes (Dyna-Comp, Wah, Phase shifter, TS9, RAT2, Tremelo, Chorus, Analog Delay, etc.) into tube amp (Rivera Quiana).

Hmm, Let's hope this stands the test of time. Not so sure about the stompswitch and board mounted jacks. I will depend on it it without backup. I would just have to struggle on without my auto-wah thingy! Not exactly something that would derail a gig. Overall construction quality seems pretty good.

Hasn't come up. Let's hope it stays that way. This pedal is no longer in production. I'd like to see if I can get a schematic though.

I play a wide variety of styles and the Discumbobulator is a great match for any that require an envelope filter. I have been playing since the mid 70's and have been a long time fan of auto-wah effects. This may be the best match between size, price, flexibilty, sound and ease of use. Not sure what the price and availability will be now that these are no longer in production, but surely competes or beats anything in the $200 and under category.

This pedal is really great!! It works like most other auto wah pedals exept that it's really easy to use. The are 3 knobs and a switch controlling (L to R): Sensitivity, With and Attack. Even with no other effects this one sounds great (it find it to be much "warmer" than the Electro Harmonix Q-Tron and much easier to control). Even if you want to create "special effects", other than the normal envelope controlles wah sound, this pedal makes it possible very easy. I've made some beautifull "ambient" sounds combined with a distortion and a delay and perhaps and tremmolo (dist-trem-wah-dly). I've also used to change and boost a distorded lead type of sound. It can be made to alter the tone with a setting that only causes the filter to oppen a little. You can create some very carracteristic sounds.

I've used the pedal in a setup like this: fender jazzmaster - boss ds1 distortion - boss tr2 tremmolo - EMMA electronic discumBOBulator aoto wah - boss dd3 delay - Laney lh50 amp.
The pedal is indeed very silent. I've no problems at all and the effect were allways really really great even at low settings. I've been using for "ambient" kind of sounds ala Sonic Youth but allso very distict lead tones ala Phill Manzanera (Roxy Music). So I have'nt been using it much as a "regular" auto wah, were the filter is set to open at every sounding tone or cord (exept when I wanted to anoy my fellow band members by playing some funky riffs, where it even sounded better and "warmer" (ie more "friendly") than for instans the EH Q-tron)

I thoght I had a problem with not switching on properly when swithced on untill i found out it was because the power cord didn't fit properly. But the manufacturer (they're hand made in denmark at my local music store) told me they've had minor problems with the on/off switch. But I haven't had any problems. I would count on it 100%!!

As i mentioned above, the pedal is handmade at my local music store. And when I confrontet them with the above mentioned problem, I thought I had, they offered to replace the switch instantly. And they are allways help and friendly. See this link for info: http://www.orkestergraven.dk/viewproduct.php?ProductgroupID=55&ID=82

The only thing i missed in this pedal was the feature that other auto wah pedals, like the boss-auto-wah-thing and the EH "the worm", include. I'm not shure what it is called. Its not an envelope controlled effect, it's more like an LFO or temmolo opening and closing the filter at a certain rate (that makes it go wahwahwahwahwahwahwah untill you switch it of, sort of like on Sonic Youth's The Diamond Sea). But the overall greatness of this pedal quickly made me forget about that...

I had never used an auto-wah/ filter before, and this was easy. I had a sound in my head and it matches it very well. The up and down switch make this on a keeper over ALL I tried.

Sound Quality : 9
It sounds great. I find it very usable with my set-up. It is not noisy.

I am using it in stereo with a '68 Deluxe Reverb and a PV classic 50 4x10. It loves buckers and sc's. I prefer the single coils with it though. YOU MUST TRY THIS WITH AN OCTAVE DOWN EFFECT! I use this in conjuction with my EH octave multiplexer and I am a funky man. It sounds good

Reliability : 4
Here is the rub. Crappy switch. If you buy it, plan on replacing it. Get one of the HC effect forumites to fix it for around $20 (oranjip is good). It works well with a good clean switch

I would buy it again. The orange LED, and body look cool too. I really like this pedal a lot. It was better than the Menatone mailbomb by far and the Guyatone Funky Box...which sucked. I find this pedal to be the most inspiring pedal I have ever bought.
