Ease of Use : 10
The Discumbobulator is an envelope filter. What amazed me about this effect was how much easier is was to get great sounds as compared to the other envelope filters I own. It has 4 controls sensitivity,up/down switch, width, and attack. The manual describes the controls and there are some sample settings to get you started. The conrols are interactive and you get many variations of sound. the key to using an effect like this is to experiment as much as possible, but EMMA has made it easy to get quick satisfaction. It is 3.5" by 5" and doesn't take up much real estate on a pedal board.

Sound Quality : 9
There are quite a few envelope/auto wahs on the market and all have there unique sound. I have a vintage Mutron III, An early Mutron III+ reissue,DOD FX25B and a Russian issue Bassballs. The EMMA is not as "wet" as the vintage Mutron, but I would rate it a close second for sound. I find the Mutron nicer for fingerstyle, but I prefer the EMMA for Slap Bass. I use Fender P/J Basses and a Warwick Thumb Bass and it works great with both passive and active electronics. It also works great with my other pedals EBS Compressor and Fulltone Bassdrive. I find the Mutron doesn't work as well with these other pedals probably because it has a preamp that is always active.

Reliability : 9
EMMA is made in Denmark and has excellent construction. I've had mine 3 months and have used it on numerous live gigs and in the studio. No problems. I don't need a backup. The only concern I have is the mini toggle switch used for the up/down control.

Customer Support : No Opinion
EMMA doesn't have a website. I purchased mine at Eiderly Music, Michigan. There prices and selection are good but there service is questionable. Example When I ordered the pedal I asked them to make sure the original box and manual be sent. They have sent me broken and forgot boxes/manuals before. Guess what they did it again! They did send out the original box and manual after I RE contacted them. Why can't they get it right the first time?

Overall Rating : 9
The Discumbobulator is an excellent pedal. If you love funky tones give it a try. I feel this pedal is already a classic!
