Tim's mods include two switches and a theremin eye to modulate the self-oscillation. At first, I had a hard time figuring out what the two switches control - boy, I found out soon enough. After that, a breeze.

I am currently using two Rats (including the modded one), an EH Frequency Analyzer, and an EH Deluxe Memory Man. My guitar is a no-name dual humbucker job, and my amp is a 1983 Fender Concert, Rivera design. My "style", if I may be so bold as to call it such, is something akin to Wire/Steve Albini plays Autechre, I s'pose.
By itself, this pedal makes a pretty nice sound generator; alas, no guitar signal gets through (unless it's in the Rat mode). With another distortion (the other Rat) in front of it, put your head between your legs and KISS YOUR EVER-LOVIN' ASS GOODBYE. Yep, soon as I heard it, it was like, "So long, ass!" Fuzzanity ensues - Blue (B)ox moans, self-oscillating swarm of killer bees, rapacious synth fizzleedee, and so much more... An attention getter, for certain. Fuzz Heaven. Exceeded all expectations. Sounds like what I imagine a Fuzz Probe sounds like. No contest - ten.

O. K., drop it on the floor. Now stomp on it. Does it work? Of course it does! Now, drop it on your head. Then, stomp on it. Does it work? You'll never know - yr dead, sucka! In other words, it'll break YOU before YOU break IT. Ten.

It is my pleasure to say that Tim Shortnacy is a great guy who makes great effects. I appreciate the way he does business - he's prompt, honest, friendly, and quite amenable to your suggestions. I am going to buy another fuzz pedal from him, and if you're looking from something unusual, you could not do better. Ten plus.

I play a sort of minimalist punk a la Wire, the Fall, and Mission of Burma. Other influences find their way into my music, ie Sonic Youth, Godspeed You! Black Emperor, Black Dice, and so many more... I've been playing seriously for over ten years now. I like to experiment with unorthodox tunings, extended techniques, and, of course, effects, which are listed above with my other gear. If this were lost or stolen, I'd be up shit's creek - there ain't another one, baby. So, the only thing I could replace it with, I imagine, is a Zvex Fuzz Probe. I'd better not lose it, and you'd better not steal it. IT'LL BREAK YOU BEFORE YOU BREAK IT!!!
What's more impressive than the pedal itself is the treatment I got from Tim. As I stated above, he's a great guy making great stuff, SO BUY FROM EFFECTOR 13! You can't lose. Tententen.
