There's very little to deal with. The Warp Factory is forshure a very simple straight foward effect's rack.

Sound Quality : 10
The Warp Factory like all Electrix effects rack's will instantly give warmth to your sound, whatever the source be. I bounce/proccess allot of drum loop's n hit's with it and have allway's been taken back by how much warmth the Electrix rack's give, big meaty analog signal right of the bat.

Reliability : 10
I also own an Electrix Mo FX, Eq Killer and the Filter Factory. The metal casing on all Electrix rack's forshure does the trick with reliability, its heafty dutty and then some.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Never had to deal with them.

Overall Rating : 10
Ive played guitar and bass in a couple band's for about 8 solid years, and also produce loads of different electronic music, though it mainly be that dirty old Jungle sound. I allway's bounce my drum hit's and loop's with loads of Warp Factory proccessing. Forshure get's you a dirty thick rare sound. I own all the Electrix rack's, they made them treat to tweak.

Did well with them for compact flash card exchanges early on for the Repeater (IVL rest in peace)

Y'know, I don't use the vocoder part that much. I ran a location track of geese and ducks going off with it and it sounded awesome. Like aliens were abducting them. Below a certain threshold the "voice" drops out and this whispery air effect kicks in. In any case, What I love this thing for is the granular warping. Not vocoding, just the sound of the signal warbling and shifting. Don't ask me why but it reminds me of the effect the Beatles used on "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" when they wanted that Clapton solo enhanced song to sound more "Beatley". Really effective on soft passages to give the track a timelessness and old analog flavor, like uneven tape travel over the head. A great tool for tape analog effect-like goodness. Analog traits get so overused in descriptions sometimes, and I'm not trying to overstate what this thing does. Ita can be noisy. BUt you can make it useful noise. That's the point.LEt's just say it makes tracks interesting by dirtying them up in a subtle changing manner over time, like a watery phasing.Best in subtler amounts, twist the knobs for accents. I'm sure there's a plug in that'll do this too, but this thing has knobs. You play it. I've never used it's midi capability so I can't comment on that.

I figured it out in no time. Since it doesn't actually have many knobs / features, it's of course simple to use. The only reason I can't give it 10, is that there is no support for patches (altrough that's no problem for those who use MIDI to controll it)

Sound Quality : 10
Both the carrier and modulator, is sent sent from the direct outputs of my MC-909 (I mainly use it for vocoding synth sounds, with drum sounds). Also, a cheap microphone is connected to the mic input, so I can vocode my voice.

It sounds great, it can do a whole lot interesting effects to my sounds, both classic vocoding, and interesting sweeping stuff. But I'm the kind of person who thinks "everything can sound great if used right, even the noisiest lowest quality effect module, mainly because I don't always like crystal clear hifi sounds. To my ears, the Warp Factory sounds fantastic.

I should mention that I don't care about noise in my music at all. It's ok for my gear to be a bit noisy. I don't even use any sort of noise reduction thing. This is why I choose not to reduce my score just because of some little noise.

Reliability : 10
Awesome build quality. I couldn't break this machine if I tried...

Customer Support : No Opinion
No problems, never had to contact them.

Overall Rating : 10
I create very electronic music, and I need lots of non-standard ways to change the timbare of my sounds. For this, the Warp Factory is perfect. If it was stolen, I'd concider getting another one.

I wish it had a little preset bank tho, but I survive without it.

For those with previous vocoder experience, the Warp Factory is cake to learn. For first-timers with little knowledge as to how vocoders work and what they actually do, prepare for a learning curve - the manual has to get you started.

Sound Quality : 8
A tad noisy, but nothing unbearable - I've worked with the Electrix MOFX unit also, and noticed the same thing there as well.

As one of the previous reviers stated, there is indeed a noticeable volume increase with the unit's the internal sound generators. Barring that, the Warp Factory delivers everytime. I'm using it primarily to warp vocals from sounds in Reason's Subtractor synth, and I can usually get what I'm looking for with minimal trouble.

Reliability : 10
Built like Fort Knox - you'd need a sledgehammer to crack this thing open. I don't gig, but I wouldn't hesitate to take it on the road.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Haven't had reason to contact Electrix about the unit.

Overall Rating : 9
I do remix and general production work, mostly mainstream stuff (house, trance, etc) and a little vocoding comes into play from time to time. It's a timeless effect, one that never seems to go out of style.

If a simple hardware vocoder is what you're after, the Warp Factory should fit the bill just fine. It's durable with a decent array of sound-shaping abilities, and it's simple to use once you've got the basics down - not to mention they're easily found on Ebay for a good price.

All things considered though, I probably wouldn't replace it. I work primarily with soft synths these days, and if you're more inclined to go the software route, you're probably better off with something like Orange Vocoder or Reason 2.5, which features an excellent vocoding module. You'll get the same (and possibly even better) results and probably find it alot easier to work with overall.

Ease of Use : 10
Very easy to use. Be sure to keep the manual handy for the first few sessions as it will be helpful in explaining what's what. Still, you can plug stuff in and twist knobs to find out yourself if you so desire.

Sound Quality : 7
I noticed a fair amount of noise when running through the unit. Also, there's a HUGE difference in volume between the onboard stuff (Robot Voice & White Noise) and actual vocoded stuff. I have to crank the Mix knob to just above zero to avoid blowing my eardrums when using Robot Voice. However, the results when vocoding are fantastic - as clear or muddy as you want them. There does seem to be a slight delay (I'm assuming because it's digital) but it's only noticeable when I'm not playing with any other music.

Reliability : 10
Incredibly tough construction. Never had any problems with internals going funky either.

Customer Support : 6
Fast response, but they weren't able to answer my question properly (about the volume difference mentioned above).

Overall Rating : 9
This is a great box, especially for those who haven't worked with vocoders before. Since it's standalone, all controls are pretty much self-explanatory. Another advantage is that _any_ two instruments/voices can be combined for vocoding. You could even do voice with voice, if you wanted. Hmm...

This is thing is quick and easy to get working. The manual is short and to the point. If you bother to spend to ten minutes to leaf through it and dial up the sample settings, you'll have no problems using it. Big nice knobs.

I might add also that it has LOTS of inputs, RCA's, the normal 1/4", an XLR in, an XLR our for bypass, and it also has a preamp for a turntable which is a nice bonus.

My one and only complaint - the power switch is on the back! Not good since I have mine rack mounted. This is their one major design flaw that I've noticed.

Sound Quality : 9
I'm running this through a small Mackey mixer into a mid-ranged Sony component Stereo system and noise isn't a problem for me. As a vocoder, it is very nice. I've created some really neat sounds and effects with this unit. If you are creative, you'll have no problem making use of this. If you are sick and twisted, all the better.

Reliability : 10
Solid. Everyone else has stated it pretty well.

This can do some very nice things if you use your imagination. This unit really is a great unit with it's only problem being that its power switch is hidden on the back, unaccessable if rack mounted.

Well, it's pretty easy to use. My only gripe is that input selector on the side is not explained very well, nor does it actually work as it says in the manual. Apart from that, plug it in and you're getting vocoded in 10 seconds. (It takes 3 to boot up.)

Sound Quality : 9
Sound quality is sweet. A little bit of noise, I've noticed with another Electrix box I have as well, but it's pretty much only noticable when it's not cranking out full volume. Apart from that, the vocoder section is frikkin' sweet! You can use the robot to get some neat sounds right away (this took the other 7 seconds to figure out). I wish you could control the robot's pitch from midi notes, but alas only record the knob movements. I suppose with some tweaking of the recording it's possible to get what you want, but too tedious. When I run my Virus B through it, it doesn't get quite as loud, but if I crank enough stuff up, it sounds pretty sweet. A lot easier to use than the menu-driven Virus Vocoder.

Reliability : 10
This thing... I swear, you could take a chansaw to it, and the chainsaw would lose. You could get it in a wrestling match with Andre the Giant and andre would get tired before the thing had a scratch. If there's only one thing to say about Electrix, they make the most bulletproof hunks of metal this side of Saudi Arabia.

Customer Support : No Opinion
I doubt I will ever have to talk to these guys based on how solid their boxes are.

Overall Rating : 10
If you want a vocoder, this thing is it for the price! (Well, on clearance helps quite a bit, but I'd go a bit higher cuz it's a good box!) If you want that classic vocoder sound... well, maybe try something else, but if you want something better get this little box-o-joy!

Very straightforward box. Knobs, buttons, easy. Great for musicians and DJ's live. Midi implementation makes throwing a good FX box in the rack a snap.

Great sounds. Still trying to nail that infamous "Soundwave" Voice from Transformers. Can't be done with the Robot Pitch alone. I think it's a Tritone chord you play to get his voice. Oh well. If anyone knows the specifics, POST IT!!!

very easy to use hardly needs a manual but the manual is well written concise and clear. Its easy to get good sounds out of this thing. I run drums through the warp factory to mess up sounds on my synth. To use the old cliche this machine really does make sounds really phat

Sound Quality : 10
The vocoder on this has an amazing sound like i said it adds extra width to anything that goes through it.

Reliability : 10
This machine is all metal even the dials. I'm sure i could throw it against the wall and it would survive fine

Customer Support : 10
emailed electrix once because i thought they left the rack ears out of the box (they didn't) and i got a reply the next day. Very friendly and answered all my queries regarding thier other products.

Overall Rating : 9
Well this thing is great for getting deep phat bass sounds and mangling things up in all sorts of ways - it even has midi. It's fairly expensive when i suppose it's just a vocoda but it can mangle things up nicely. Try it and believe me you'll want it. I didn't even dream of spending #270 on a vocoder - luckily for me? i tried one that was hooked up in a shop. I'd give this machine a rating of 10 overall but there is one thing (not a biggie) that never fails to annoy me. They put the on/off switch on the back of the machine. That's fine if you're not going to rack it up though!
