Mine did not come with a manual, as it was 2nd hand. However it is extremely easy to figure out how to use, its all labelled. 1 knob controls the 'reverse wah' option, another controls the 'fuzz volume'. Yet another knob changes between wah and volume control options, the final knob allows you to select from 4 types of wah. Finally the wah/volume and fuzz and turned on and off by two seperate buttons above the toe end of the expression pedal. A quick play and a child could figure it out. Unfortunately there is no AC input, so its a 9V or nothing.

Sound Quality : 9
Fuzz was exactly what I wanted, with the option of getting a very vintage fuzz, or something more along the muse lines. The Wah option is brilliant, very crisp, but with 4 types of wah, its all personal choice as to what sound you can get. The wahs range from very bassy to very trebley, something for everyone. Together the sound is great as well. There is some crackling when the pedal is pushed far forward, but this is hardly noticable and is probably down to dust on the pots... i will clean it sometime!

Reliability : 7
Havn't had it long, but its built like a tank. EHX don't make these anymore so I guess I would have to depend on a technician from a shop rather than EHX customer support... It hasn't died on me yet, fingers crossed.

As I said, EHX don't make these anymore so I guess I would have to depend on a technician from a shop rather than EHX customer support... I've never dealt with customer support so I have no idea.

I play a range of music from light REM-esque material to heavy alice-in-chains or muse. This pedal can do it all! If it broke I would have to find a replacement, it has improved my setup considerably. Well worth the money.

Not so easy to use...
4 different wahs (really different :-) with the reverse mode, then a volume pedal...
You must work on it to find your setup... but that's the best thing of this pedal :-)!!!

Sound Quality : 9
The Wah are really good: there are 4 different types... the 2 'bass' are really strange (not a usual wah sound... really stange and modern), the two 'treble' are more usual... this units works wonderful with the clean sounds (the best unit i've ever heard...), but loss something with the ditortion... probably a litle bit too noisy... The only little regret is that this unit 'eats' a bit of signal... but it's a normal thing for a pedal built in the 1974!!!
The volume works really well, nothing to say...

Reliability : 8
MY wah... nothing to add...
I play lots of funky, so this pedal and my vintage E.H. Doctor Q are my best friends!!!

Customer Support : No Opinion
Inside my pedal there's written '14 August 1974' so there's no support... but is and incredibly strong pedal, much bigger than normal (4-5 longer than my old Vox V847)!!!
No problem with travels!!!

Overall Rating : 9
One of the best vintage wah pedals around... not as classic as Vox or other brands, but much more solid and verstile!!!

This is the most complicated wah pedal I have ever seen, but it's still easy to use! I have the 80's version of this pedal, so it's kinda backwards from the original. On the right side of the housing are two rotary knobs. The front one clicks between WAH and VOLUME pedal functions. The back one clicks between four very different tonal variations of WAH, kinda like the pickup selector knob on a PRS. All four tones are great, but I like #3 best (next to the most treble). On the left side of the housing is another rotary knob that lets you switch between forward WAH (treble = toe down) and backwards WAH (treble = toe up).I find that if I try to use the backwards WAH, I reverse my approach to a song to keep the treble at the same place in time either way. I have to really concentrate to do an intentional backwards WAH. It doesn't really matter how you set it - it always sounds great! One thing I think is really great is that the bypass button isn't under the pedal - it's mounted on the housing on the toe side of the pedal. That way, you don't just toggle between WAH and VOLUME - you can bypass the pedal completely. I don't know if it's really a "true bypass", but it's completely noise-free in bypass mode, so I think it is. Only thing to note about the volume function: in NORMAL (treble = toe down) mode, the volume is maxed when the pedal is TOE UP! That way if you put your foot down to step on the bypass button, you're starting at minimum volume, not max! Only thing this baby really comes up short on is NO AC JACK. It's a Duracell or nothing!

This is a STRONG wah. The most treble tone is too trebly for my taste, but it's less so than your basic VOX, so I'm sure somebody somewhere likes it. This is also a real quiet pedal. HUGE tonal variations! Give it an eight 'cause it can't quite copy my FASEL - inductor Italians for sheer perfecto tone.

Reliability : 7
Big, heavy, clunky aluminum pedal - won't fit into anything, but I'm not afraid to put my 250 on it. Electronically? never had a problem. EH went under in '83 or '84, and Mike M. hasn't seen fit to reissue the Crying Tone yet under New Sensor, so I'm on my own as far as repairs. Mr. Neely?

Customer Support : No Opinion
EH has gone the way of all flesh, but I'm not really worried. The crying Tone is a tank.

Overall Rating : 8
Definitely get another. Never seen another ! Love its versitality! Much better tone than my Crybabys, Boomerangs, or Weepers. Can't quite achieve FASEL status though.
