Ease of Use : 9

Very easy to use. Basic but perfect really. Good range as well-you can get a good sound easily but also get something stupid if you want?!

Sound Quality : 8
Brilliant quality and built like a tank. Makes boss pedals look rubbish.
I only use this now and again as it really is a one trick pony,-well maybe 2 usable sounds really. Always used with decent other gear, valve amps of course, and other pedals.
What I dont like about this effect is how it cuts top end off the other pedals. I use a Nobels overdrive- this absolutely sings (brilliant pedal-better than a tubescreamer!) but with the phaser in the loop top end dissapears)
The effect itself though is second to none. The best phaser out there.

Reliability : 10
Built like a house brick type tank thing! It looks indestructable and makes boss look crap.

Customer Support : No Opinion
No.

Overall Rating : 7
Ive been playing for years, and done about 300 gigs. Im not saying im brilliant or a pro, just an average intermediate player who knows what good stuff sounds like.
Make no mistake this is a great sounding pedal-probably the best phaser you can buy. Id rate it as a 10 BUT it sucks tone and as thats a BIG deal to me im only rating this a 7!

One speed knob a "color" switch and a true bypass switch.

Sound Quality : 10
I use this pedal in my effects loop on my carvin nomad amp.I rout the send to a Boss tremlo ,EH small stone to a DOD delay (old dod USA)back to the return. For the most part the EH small stone is quiet .The effects loop on the carvin is preamp befor the reverb so with any effects it adds some niose when reverb is turn on or up high. The sund of the EH becomes apart of the amp and maires well with the other effects witch is more than I can say for the MXR Phase 90 .I found the MXR 90 harsh in the Effects loop and killed the tone of all my guitars when places in front of the amp.If you are looking for classic phase sound this is your pedal.

Reliability : 6
EH are not most reliabel pedals but are easy to fix yourself

I have benn playing for 18 years and play blues, country and rock.I wanted to add some phase to my set up .I tried and did not like the MXR 90 .But,trade it in for the EH small stone and now I'm very happy sound great with all my guitars (tele,strat,335).I would replace if stolen but try something different if broken EH pedals are not the most rugged pedal out their. But to have true bypass on a pedal at this price is a great value you just got to give it a try.

Super easy to use. Very deep sound and great reliability. The version I bought has been modified to include a bypass switch and a small switch on the top for a vibrato and pulsing effect. Very cool.

Sound Quality : 10
I use a Fender Highway 1 Strat with an Ibanez SM-9 Distortion and DL10 Delay, and a DOD 440 Envelope Filter connected to my Peavey 40 watt Envoy 112. The sound is consistently great and is totally Hendrix when used at the right settings.

Reliability : 9
I have only had this pedal a short while, but I totally depend on it. The thing is built like a rock and I would be comfortable using it in a gig.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Never needed any support, picked the pedal up at a guitar show form a seller. It was already modified so that takes care of that.

Overall Rating : 10
I have mainly been playing rock for 5 years and this pedal is a great
match and complement for my other pedals. I love the fact that it has been customized; it totally adds a deeper, more complex sound to the already great pedal. It helps me better my sound out of my equipment and it totally rocks. Pick one up if you find one.

It has one knob and one switch. I think there is anything easier than this unit. Just turn the knob to increase or decrease the speed of chorus and play.

Sound Quality : 10
I use a Fender American FatStrat -> Jimmy Hendrix Wah -> DOD 280 Compressor -> MXR Distortion+ -> Big Muff -> Small Clone -> Guyatone Vintage Tremolo -> Morley Deluxe Flanger -> ROSS Phaser -> Danelectro PB&J Delay -> BOSS NF-1 Noise Gate -> Laney LC-30. This pedal is THE BEST chorus i ever heard. Any digital or "clone" can beat this one: clean and powerfull at the same time. The chorus seems to be "full of life", maybe because this stuff is really analog. That's the point!

Reliability : 10
This pedal is like another EHX units: a TANK! Built with metal and with hard material (knobs, switches etc), this baby can live 30 years easly if you take care of it.

Customer Support : 4
I had bad times with EHX support, the most part because I live in Brazil and other troubles of shippment and pricing. Read my review for Big Muff Pi and you'll know what I'm talking about.

Overall Rating : 10
It's a wonderfull pedal. If you want to buy a chorus unit don't hesitate: buy this one and you'll be very satisfied. (I am!)

This is pretty easy.
Color switch. Rate/Depth knob. On/bypass footswitch.
Need i say more?

Sound Quality : 7
I use this baby as follows. Fender Strat USA to Vintage Proco Rat to Small Stone to Boss Ds-1 Distortion to Marshall '78 JMP 50 watt head to Marshall 1960A 4*12" cab.
It is a bit noisy but it's a phaser so that's normal but if you turn the rate up and make noises with harmonics, it actually creates a pretty cool swooshy noise. You get that Jonny Greenwood effect. But for normal chords use i keep the rate way down and it sounds beautifull.
I play in band that usually doesn't use effects produced by something else than keys so the fact that my bandmates accepted the SMALL STONE's funky sound is a testament to it's utter beauty.

Reliability : 8
Mine is from the late 70's so I had to do some welding and re-wireing so now i'm positive that i can depend on it.
The outer casing, on the other hand, is fairly well built but it hasn't been with me on crazy indie rock gigs yet so, i dont know how well it will stand up to kids stepping on it.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Electro-Harmonix don't deal with stuff this old so go see your favorite repair guy. Find one with lot's of vintage stuff in his store. Those guys know their stuff.

Overall Rating : 9
Indie rock doesn't usally rely on big effects and arena rock sound but this SMALL STONE is loads of fun when kept at a fair level. (Don't go crazy with the phaser...ok? please)
I don't really attach myself to effects but this pedal is starting to create some signature sounds on the new stuff so I guess I'd have to replace it if it was stolen.
Overall a fun pedal that is easy to add to any rig. Make your own style ya lazy bums.

A knob and a switch one the easiest phase shifters to use next to the MXR Phase 90.

Sound Quality : 9
I don't want to sound cheesy by complaining about the loss in sound when its turned on, but it does but other than that it sounds than better than MXR Phase 90 & 100, and the Boss Super Phaser. I use either a fender strat, Epiphone les Paul or what ever guitars i can find at pawn shops for cheap: run into a vox wah, and alternate between a Boss Ds-1, EH-Big Muff, or DOD Grunge for distortion, then into The Small Stone , DoD Stereo Flanger, Deluxe Memory Man, and Dunlop Tremolo/stereo pan into four different amps(Peavy Bandit, Peavy studio pro, Fender Ultimate Chorus, and a Gorrila for extra buzz) for that neato stereo effect

Reliability : 10
It works great , still has the same battery that i put in it a year ago. I use it every day and go to gigs all the time and it has not failed me yet.

never spoke a word to our commie buddys

I had purchased the Small stone reissuse earlier for around $75, it was great the best swooshing sound I ever heard, then later i saw an old EH-4800 small stone for $70, with original box, and warranty card(great deal for $70). the only problem was it had no battery in it so did Know if it worked i asked the guy if he'd take $30 he said no, after some hagling, We agreed on $50. I took it home put a battery in it and it worked perfectly compared to the reissue it was a little mellow -er but still had that great swooshing sound. some my favorite bands are Flaming Lips Sonic Youth Pavement Dinosaur Jr. RadioHead Nirvana Guided by Voices It really help you to be creative and try new things instead of suck like 3rd Eye Blind & Matchbox 20. EH pedals are the by far the best sounding pedals if you cant find orginal versions try the reissues there just as good.

Ease of Use : 10
The small stone I own I bought 15 years ago when they were still made in the USA. With only three switches, its a no brainer.

Sound Quality : 8
The only real problem I have had is when turning it on in my effects loop. It makes a small "pop" noise, but other than that it works great for that retro sound.

Reliability : 10
I have never had to replace a single switch. The box is made out of metal and is not a horrible green color. It is basically a little black box with a bit of red on it. I have dropped many times over the last 15 years with a hint of a problem.

Customer Support : No Opinion
I have never had to seek out any type of support.

Overall Rating : 9
I play rock and hard rock rhythm guitar and the small stone adds texture to the music. I enjoy the sound of the small stone and would buy it again. The only thing I would change is the foot switch, which is plugger style.
