Ease of Use : 10
Very easy to use because, unlike a lot of products on today's market, it has only a few settings/selections that it does very well! Plug it in and it drips quality.

Sound Quality : 10
Excellent!! Smooth, detailed, quiet and accurate. I use the pedal through the aux of my console so I can put the excellent spring reverb on more than one guitar track at a time. No better reverb for guitar - electric or acoustic. Great for other things too, but I have 4 different effect units that I have share duties.

Reliability : 5
Blew something that knocked out the reverb completely. Sent the unit back to EH for repair. I give it a "5" rather than a "1" because...read the next section...

Excellent!! I bought this unit used on ebay. After it broke, I sent it back to EH requesting it be fixed for free since it was still less than a year old...although I did not have a receipt. They returned it fixed in less than 2 weeks - no charge. They stand by their products!!

Overall Rating : 7
I do mainly instrumental guitar stuff...full band recordings for film and personal projects. Playing for 40 yrs. 16 track analog studio. My main reverb is a Lexicon MPX1. The sonic character of the Holier Grail matches that with ease - although it's not as versatile. It definately improves the sound of my guitar tracks. Not a "10" because of the reliability factor stated above. Although... Highly Recommended!!

It works as good as your own capality to integrate the controls, as one plays; depending on what's in series with one's desires, at any particular time, for any particular mood and style, with your soundscapes.

Sound Quality : 10
Hamer or Steinberg Custom w/ Duncans running into whatever preferences
I prefer with pedal configs or rack units (24); into Pro Tools, or one of two cheap amps Laney or Evolution 1 for "practice time". David Torn, Fripp,Eno/ Jimi/ Eddie Kramer/ Gong/ and yourself! You will not be dissapointed by any means or interpretations! Enjoy!

Reliability : 9
So far so good...I'm a hobbiest with 18k minus amps & guitars...

Wouldn't know - good reputation however.

Overall Rating : 10
Strictly instrumental/improv.. /30 yrs./ tons of gear/ would re-buy in heartbeat/ watch feedback levels depending on set-up and desired goal/ "blend and flerb" knobs admirable/ all modes good/ great for loop music or Peter Green type reverb leads! This unit will put you into the ozone with a smiley face!!! You won't be dissappointed!!!

Very simple to use. Turn some knobs and you're on your way. No presets however, one footswitch for on/off.

Sound Quality : 9
I believe this pedal is digital but it definetely doesn't sound like it! I use it with an Egnater IE4 preamp via a dmc system mixer. The Holier Grail has four types of reverb available: spring, hall, flerb (reverb+flange) and room. They are all usable and don't sound fake or digital at all! The spring simulation is awesome with that trademark "boingy" tone to it. The hall is rich and incredibly deep sounding. The other two are very good, but not quite as impressive as the afformentioned two. It also has a few gating options as well, but I never use them. I go for a natural sounding reverb and a gated reverb never sounds natural. I do however think the pedal has a few shortcomings. First, it doesn't need to be that big. A quick peek inside reveals a lot of unused space. Also, I wish it had controls for decay time and reverb tone. All it has is short and long choices. For me, they could have left out the gate and put in the decay and tone controls. But it does sound awesome as is!

Reliability : 10
I've found that all stompboxes hold up if you treat them well. My holier grail is attatched to a pedalboard and kept in a case. I'd definetly use it without a backup!

Customer Support : No Opinion
Never dealt with them.

Overall Rating : 10
I play all styles and am critical to the point of obsession with the gear that I play. If lost, I'd definetly buy it again as it's well worth the money! I was looking for a reverb that simply surrounded the tone without interfering with the amps sound itself and the Holier Grail delivered. I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a pro-level "guitar voiced" reverb.

It's pretty easy to get a sound out of it. It basically works like a guitar amp's reverb but with a couple of extra knobs to play with.

It's a digital unit but it doesnt store any presets. Not that you'd particularly need it, i think it would have been silly to include it. It just doesnt need it. you can change the sound in under 3 seconds with your foot, it's way easy.

The gate thing is kinda funny, i havent really found a use for it yet.

It's got 2 outputs: reverb output only and direct signal + reverb. I like that.

Sound Quality : 9
Im using the holier grail with a '69 thinline telecaster RI, peavey classic 50 2x12, roland juno 106 synthesizer, zvex fuzz factory, frantone peachfuzz and an EH Worm.

The reverb just sounds really good. It doesnt do any real fancy crap, just a kick ass simulation of spring reverb. The hall setting is just as nice. Actually they're all really cool. The gate thing (has an option to gate the reverb a la fuckin phil colllins or some cheesy thing like that) is basically useless for me unless i use it on drums as a gag.

I A/B'd the spring reverb setting to the reverb in the classic 50 (a very warm and sweet sounding amp) and i preferred the holier grail immediately.

it's not particularly noisy, maybe noisier than my amp's reverb but it's such a small amount of noise that it's worth it.

there's one setting, it's flerb, i think the "small" one....it's the biggest one-trick pony ever. you turn it on and it basically goes BWAWUHH BWAUWHH on a Bb note. kinda cool but not the kind of thing you can ever use more than once.

yes the thing is digital but it does NOT sound like it.

i havent tried it in the studio on other instruments yet, like on vocals in a mixdown. that's kind of what i got it for but i havent done a mix in the last few days. it would do a nice job of simulating the spring reverb on dub tracks or like the super reverby I-vi-IV-ii-V ballads from the 50's (the long hall setting specifically). it gets a lot of other sounds too.

Im giving it a 9 becuase of a few almost useless settings. But the rest are soooo classy.

ive owned a few EH pedals now. some of what they make sucks really hard. BUT, the ones that are good are really fantastic in my experience. The other ones i've owned are the Worm (phaser/auto-wah/tremolo/vibrato) and the new silver Big Muff Pi made here in NYC. The big muff is the best fuzz value ever and the worm is a badass tool for guitar. so far nothing's broken or acted funny.

i would definitely gig without a backup. if it breaks, fuck it i can either play dry or just use the reverb in my amp.

i gave it an 8 for reliability since ive only had it a few days.

Customer Support : 8
ive never had to deal with them. well maybe i did. when i bought the big muff i ordered an adapter for it. i felt like it took them a while to get it out (a week and a half or 2 weeks maybe?). but that wasnt even for this pedal.

I play psychedeic rock, stoner metal and spaz-rock. I futz around with chicken pickin and hiphop. Sometimes i make spaced out stuff, heavy metal, dub or just plain ol' freaked out electronic music. Ive been doing this stuff for about 15 years and currently i run a little recording studio in brooklyn.

If it were lost i would buy another when i had the money. The name holier grail is good because i kept wanting this bigger reverb sound from my amp and i also wanted something to use in the studio for old school sounding reverb (this thing sounds absolutely nothing like a TC or Lexicon reverb, it's almost the opposite!).

There's a lot of stuff out there but this is nice and portable, sturdy and it looks cool too. I really like the way the silver EH boxes look, even if they are a tad huge. It also sits perfectly in that empty spot on the side of my keyboard. An annoying thing about my amp is that i need to crank it to get a lot of reverb out of it. Not anymore i dont :)

oh, and damn it why doesnt EH make pedals with true bypass? arrrghhh. wait!!! i just tried it out and i believe it is true bypass (took out the power and it still passed signal). wicked!!

the sound is also a hell of a lot nicer than the "holy grail" pedal, also by EH.

Works great thought i haven't figured out the gate yet. there is no manual. it's quite easy to get a great sound out of it - sounds totally analog even though it's digital. does spring/hall/flerb/room and has a choice of long or short decay. the long decay is great for leads; short good for rhythm to me.
the hall is really awesome sounding to me.

Sound Quality : 10
absolutely sounds fantastic - completely analog sounding - i was stunned by it. great unit.

don't know, just got it.
