I play a Fat Strat straight into a 100 Watt Marshall JCM 800. I do not use any effects. I wanted to get rid of the minor hum. The Hum Debugger colored the tones horribly... Like a verbed delay of some kind behind the tones . I am returning the product. If you are a purist and a player who knows tone, stay away from this product.

It's just a simple foot pedal with one toggle switch and typical on/off
foot switch.

I rate it a 5 because it does what it's suppose to do, in the sense that it is designed to kill the hum that single coil pickups generate especially when using distortion or any thing that increases gain and to some degree with humbucking pickups as well. But I am disappointed in that it affects my tone ever so slightly, but just enough to take away the feel that tone conscious guitarists enjoy, especially when using distortion.
I am currently using a Brian Moore i9.13 guitar(awesome), a modified Fender Strat with '69 custom shop fender single coil pickups which are notoriously noisy, going through an ElectroHarmonix Metal Muff(nice), through an Xotic BB Preamp(really nice), through an Xotic RC Boost(super nice), powered by a Gator Pedal board and power supply (affordable and convenient), to a Fender Reissue Blues Deluxe(sweet). All wired with George L cables through a Furman strip plugged into a Monster Cable MP Pro 200. Still with all that there is enough hum to that need to be dealt with. The Hum Debugger does that

My playing style is eclectic not really focusing purely on a particular style but amalgamating genres (blues, rock, jazz, funk, folk, country). I've been playing for about 25 years (who cares really?). As I mentioned before it does what it is designed to do, kill hum but it does alter my tone enough to take away the pure feel of playing, for me which is counter productive.
Another note, that when I'm using high gain with the Metal muff it squashed notes on strings that I would bend. It also made my tone slightly sound doubled in an artificial digital kind of way (kinda of hard to describe). It didn't matter if it was put in the beginning or end of the effect chain, still sounded the same. ElectroHarmonix recommends in the beginning.
If tone is not real important, then this is a great addition for any effect pedal set up. For those who are serious about tone a little caution to consider.
One more note, I exclusively record and don't gig. So it's a sensitive thing to record with the best tone I can get. It might not make much of a difference in a live situation.

Nothing difficult at all to use, a simple on/off switch with normal and strong settings.

There's no loss of tone/character that I've noticed so far, just the 'hum' has gone. Used with single coils (2xGFS Lil Killers and a GFS Bigmouth bridge > coil tapped) with my ProCo Rat 2 or my Hughes&Kettner Warp Factor pedals, into my Microcube on Hi Flier (sic) setting is the most extreme test I can manage with my home setup, and it passes with flying colours. Ok, there's some noise, but not a hint of hum.

Not had it long enough to find out, but it appears solidly built, so I don't expect any problems.

I'm staggered at just how effective this pedal is. If you're plagued by excessive hum, get one, you won't be disappointed. I wish they'd been available/I'd known about them years ago, I could have saved a small fortune on replacing single coil pickups on various guitars. It's a simple pedal that only has one function, which it does supremely well. If lost or damaged, I'd buy another in a heartbeat. Highly, highly recommended.

Very simple - On/Off switch & Normal/Strong toggle switch - couldn't be much simpler. Does require a 7.5 VAC power supply (wall wart) that comes with it (no battery power capability), so I had to find a place on my pedal board for another power supply - argh! I assume the reason it needs an AC power supply is so that it can sync up with your local 60Hz line power to kill the hum. It works as advertised, the hum is gone. It's kinda cool, you can hear it working when you first punch it on. The hum gradually decreases for about a second and then it's gone.

I watched the video on the web of some E/H sales guy fumbling around with a big coil demoing the Hum Debugger at a show and was pretty turned-off, the whole thing looked goofy. But knowing I could return it from the place of purchase and get my money back, I ordered it anyway, to give it a try. I live in a very old house with really funky old wiring. I use an expensive custom-made Class-A tube amp with single-coil pickup guitars and just couldn't get rid of all the electro-magnetic interference, until I got this thing. It works, the hum is gone and my guitars comes through without any significant loss of fidelity.

Don't know yet, I've only had it for a month or two. So far, it's been working fine and seems to be plenty tough enough. Of course, I opened it up immediately to check it out and was surprised how much circuitry was inside, a big micro-controller or ASIC of some sort and plenty of support circuitry around it. All surface-mount component technology. Construction quality appears to be very high.

This thing worked great for me, made me love my amp and my old single-coil guitars again. I plug my guitar into the Hum Debugger and then on to a Compressor, Tube Screamer, Chorus, and Digital Reverb, before it hits my amp. If I lost this thing, I'd buy another immediately. I read these gear reviews at Harmony Central all the time, before making gear purchases. There were no reviews on the Hum Debugger and I felt that I should contribute something about my experience with it. If Hum makes you crazy (like me), give this thing a try, I think you'll like it.
