Ease of Use : 7
Quite easy to use, i've been trying to get a decent sound out of this pedal for about a year, sometimes i think it sounds ok.

Sound Quality : 7
Err, i have a love hate thing with this pedal, to be honest most of the time it sounds CRAP, way too much bass and woolly tone (of course this is desirable to some, i.e bassists)... but, and it's a big but, on the rare occaision when i have really turned up the volume in rehearsal rooms this pedal has sounded great. So am hanging on to this pedal for the next high volume situation, until then i'll leave it alone.

Yep

nope.

It's OK, wish i'd just got the regular big muff as that has less bass... to me this pedal just doesnt suit my guitar (les paul copy), already a very bass heavy guitar, i've heard it played by other people and it sounds good, so it might be my setup that is the problem.

Three knobs, sustain, tone and volume. Turning to tone knob up adds treble.

I find it easy to get the sound I like from it. First I turn the sustain up as much as I can before the sound becomes woolly. Then I set the volume to give me the right amount of boost (this depends on where the 'sustain' is set, as sustain also adds volume). Then I turn the tone knob up as much as I can before the sound becomes shrill.

Sound Quality : 8
I use this pedal for a very specific sound. The amount of fuzz you get is completely mental so it doesn't leave you with much choice. I don't like playing chords through it because it gets very sludgy and you lose all your dynamic, but single note lines and double stops sound amazing and powerful.

My Telecaster is very scratchy and weedy sounding but stomping on this transforms it beyond recognition. It's like playing a different instrument, you can hold notes for bars at a time and it thickens the sound up with lots of bass. Great for solos. Volume swells are fun too.

I've tried it with lots of amps and it seems to prefer the ones with lots of headroom. Otherwise all the boost gets swallowed up and you lose definition.

In short: insane amounts of fuzz and sustain, lots of added bass and tonnes of extra volume should you need it.

My chain is: Telecaster -> Proco Rat (for overdrive) -> Little Big Muff Pi (for solos) -> Analogue Delay -> Digital Delay -> Clean amp with lots of headroom

Only had it for a year so fingers crossed. It's taken a bit of punishment, had beer spilt on it and been kicked across a few stages. I've seen some pretty beat up old Big Muff pedals held to together with gaffer tape etc, so fingers crossed.

Borrowed one of these a while back for a few months and then decided I couldn't do without one. It's completely mental! Not sure if there's anything else like it. I only use it sparingly but it's an absolute joy every time I do.

It three basic knobs that are very self intuitive: sustain, tone, and volume. Turning the "tone" knob clockwise gives a trebly punch of fuzz.

Sound Quality : 9
I am using a mexican-made tele with standard pickups. The little Big Muff gives a great warm fuzz. However, by itself, the little Big Muff can only be used for songs that require that type of sound. Thats when a layer of overdrive can do wonders for the sound. I use a Digitech "hothead" pedal and stack it with the LBM, and I get awesome thrash distortion. I am sure that other pedals of better quality will combine with the Muff for the distortion that you are looking for. Oh yeah my Small Stone goes with it well too.

Reliability : 9
I bought mine used about 6 weeks ago. So far, so good. The LBM also gets great battery life. My version still has the original owners battery inside. It also has a sturdy case and the standard EHX footswitch.

Super-simple. Tone, sustain and volume. It gets a nine only because they've switched the controls on me!

Mexi/frankenstrat->Little Big Muff->SD-1 w/Monte Allums mod->Micro POG->Nano Small Stone->Stereo Electric Mistress->Stereo Memory Man with Hazarai->Dean Markley K300-B bass amp.

Lots of big fuzz bottom! I prefer the muff over the fuzzface, partially because of the tone knob, and partially because they're more homogeneous (muffs tend to be more consistent).

You can get a Jimi tone, or your own fuzz tone (which is what I prefer). I actually like to use it with my Micro POG and some modulation to get a synthy-type sound. Receives an 8, because there will always be a better boutique fuzz (even though it'll cost you another $200).

Lots and lots of sustain, which I love. It's also TB, sucka! No tone loss that I can detect.

Reliability : 10
I love the XO line. Very reliable. I've had tow other muffs, but we'll talk about that later.

Never dealt with 'em.

So I had a Black Russian muff, but that was far too big, and the lack of a power supply option led me to decide to trade it for a Double Muff. Now I know that the Double Muff is really just two Muff Overdrive circuits and not the Big Muff circuit, but I thought it'd be worth mentioning. I sold that because I wasn't too keen on the reliability (I had to solder a jack only a week after I got it), and it sounded too glassy for me. I then decided on the Little Big Muff. Tiny, affordable, simple, consistent. I long ago decided that all I need it an overdrive and a distortion/fuzz, and with my modded SD-1, I've got both. It gets a nine, again for the fact that there are nicer (but more more expensive) fuzz pedals out there.

Three knobs - volume, tone and sustain. The ranges of each parameter are very wide, so it's quick & easy to dial in a specific fuzz sound.

Sound Quality : 8
Let's face it, you cant drop $60 on a pedal and expect to sound as good as their more expensive counterparts. That said, this little pedal packs a punch! I use it for a light, bluesy crunch and for little added "grit" on solo passages, and it works really well for that.

If you adjust the sustain at the lowest setting, and couple this pedal with an octave generator (I use a Digitech XP-100), you can get an enormous, larger-than-life sound. Funny enough, my $200 analogman tubescreamer doesn't do that as well when coupled with an octave!

The metal housing seems very sturdy. I would gig without a backup.

Have not dealt with EHX customer support.

I compared this to a Rat overdrive and a Big Muff. I liked the sound of the little big muff the best, and for the price, it really can't be beat.

Volume - Tone - Sustain very basic stompbox layout. A monkey could use it

Sound Quality : 10
This is where the fun starts. I bought this pedal 'cos I couldn't get a sound crazy enough for me from my fuzzface so I thought that this was the answer - and it is!

This box is the craziest fuzz I've ever heard in my life! I run it just after the wah into my tiny VOX 15 watt and hallelujah!

Simple and versatile what else could you ask?

I just got it so no comment here.

I play mostly blues but from time to time I go through these Hendrix periods and the I need fuzz... alot of it. In my 7 years of playing I've nver seen such amazing fuzzbox in such a low price.

I recommend it to every one how's after for some crazy fuzz tones

GREAT!!! Simple... maybe too simple. I just wish there were separate controls for distortion and sustain.

Sound Quality : 10
I've owned and played some of the most high end distortions and fuzz boxes and overdrives out there, and this is my favorite that I've tried so far. I have many vintage pedals (TC electronics distortion + booster, MXR distortion +, BOSS DS-1, Fuzz Face), and to me this pedal has more body than all of them put together. It also has way more versitility wrapped up in such a small stomp box.

good sounds are easy to find, with patience. 3 knobs and one switch. easy as "pi" (sorry.)

Sound Quality : 9
well, i must say my black russian was much more defined and timid, but on the flipside, this is half the size, built better, and has a 9v jack for a pedalboard, and that alone makes it better overall.

thats not to say it doesnt sound awesome - it has LOTS of good fuzz-blasted animosity. this thing seriously has more sustain than youll ever use. i generally keep it somewhere around 25-30% or else notes just become too boomy and undefined. screw the Fender Blender - try cranking this thing for the bridge to "bullet with butterfly wings."

a very fun and cool trick is to crank the sustain full-tilt, add some delay, play high on the neck, and voila... instant E-bow!

seriously though, the harmonics in this thing are awesome if you tinker with it. just be patient - dont dismiss it entirely if it doesnt please you instantly.

Reliability : 10
very strong metal housing and good components.

i like it very much. its a real winner. but if only those crappy black muffs didnt constantly fall apart...

three knobs and a switch. not that difficult of a setup, but it takes a bit of learning to get the sound you're looking for. i found a really nice sound pretty quickly (sustain 1oclock, tone 3oclock)

Sound Quality : 9
you can get some wicked droney sounds out of this thing! i've owned a couple big muffs and this is my favorite out of all the ones i've had. it's got a VERY bassy and sludgy tone most of the time, and i love that. it's got all the bass i was missing with other big muffs (esp. the reissue NYC muff).

it's versatile - Kyuss sounds (especially sounds like on Green Machine) came right away. wasn't hard to get a Bullhead-era Melvins sound or even some crazy sunn0)))-esque sounds, and with the tone knob set to the max there would be some subtle sharp highs amongst the sludge. a bit like certain Shellac/Big Black tones (with more bass most of the time). if you're looking for sharp tones, this isn't your muff. point your attention towards the NYC reissue muff. i A-B'd this with a Dan-O-Wah. some ridiculous tones come out of that. mix this with a super-sharp distortion for some interesting results, or with a nice chorus/reverb for some serious shoegaze wall-of-sound!

Reliability : 9
EHX's large pedals tended to be a bit flimsy feeling. this pedal is light, which worried me a bit at first, but it's a very tough pedal which has sustained a large amount of abuse. not quite a Boss, but one of EHX's sturdiest pedals.

Customer Support : No Opinion

Overall Rating : 9
i play a lot of drone, noise, and sludge metal with a bit of shellac-esque punkish stuff. i love this pedal for its unique sound. i play this with a gibson les paul special (DiMarzio Super II neck, 498T at the bridge). love it. i bought it because i was looking for a Kyuss-like tone, especially on tracks like Green Machine and Writhe. Those sounds came right away. If you want crisp clarity, look elsewhere (NYC Reissue muff). I love this pedal to death. Great price for amazing sound. The only fuzz I'd take over this might be a green Sovtek muff, but those are hard to come by and go for hundreds of dollars.

With only three knobs (volume, tone, and sustain), it's easy to operate. It's also easy to get a good sound out of it; that is, it's really easy to get a good, dirty fuzz out of this thing. Although I don't think it's advertised, as far as I can tell, this pedal is true-bypass (I've got another pedal that reacts very differently if it's placed after a buffered output, and it doesn't react that way after the Little Big Muff).

Sound Quality : 8
This is a very cool fuzz pedal. I've never used a vintage muff, but you can easily get smooth, thick, heavy-sustaining fuzz tones out of this box. It's not the best for note clarity, but that goes with the fuzz territory. I find this much better for solos rather than rhythm parts; it's so thick-sounding that it can get buried in a wall of sound. If the volume is cranked so that it's way out front, it has a great solo sound.

I did have one small problem with this pedal, but this may not affect everybody. I use a BBE Boosta Grande (clean boost pedal), and the Little Big Muff is boosted way too much by it - must be something in the circuitry of the LBM. It's a small problem, because I only use this for solos - I don't need to use my Boosta Grande with it. I just turn the volume up (and this pedal has a ton of output) and step on just this for solos.

Reliability : No Opinion
I've not had any problems as of yet.

They respond to email fairly quickly, although the question I sent warranted a more thorough answer. Kudos for the speed of reply, but the quality of the reply was lacking.

I've been playing for twelve years, and I'm currently using this pedal with a Strat into a Peavey Ranger 212 or a tandem of a Vox AC15 and a Fender Blues Jr. You can play a variety of rock styles with this - it excells at classic rock (like Cream and Hendrix), modern rock, and grunge. Make sure you're looking for a fuzz rather than a distortion - the ads call this a distortion/sustainer, and while that may be technically correct, it is really a fuzz pedal.
