Easy to use. 3 knobs and a dipswitch that always should be in the "down" position for guitar playing ("up" is for other hi-treble instruments only). Manual is one sheet of paper.

Sound Quality : 10
Read the manual, they're not kidding when they say this is for SINGLE NOTE PLAYING. Chords will sound all messed up. EHX is very up front about this and anyone who criticizes the sound is most likely trying to make this pedal do something it is not intended to do.

For soloing or cleanly playing a rhythm part, this thing is the best sounding octave reproducing unit I've heard with the exception of the vintage EHX Multiplexor, which costs about $500 used.

Also, I suggest changing strings frequently to maximize this pedal's performance. Old, worn, or dirty strings will trigger false harmonics.

Overall I find that this pedal does just what it's supposed to and if you're getting bad sound, your technique is more likely the culprit than the pedal!

Reliability : 10
It's a tank. I give it an 8 though because it is a battery hog.

Never used them.

Overall Rating : 10
Octave units like this or the Boss OC-2 have very limited use, but for what this pedal is supposed to do, it functions perfectly. This is not an effect like "chorus" or "overdrive" that you're just going to turn on and leave it for an entire gig. It's useful to get a unique sound during a brief solo or to fatten up a rhythm part here or there. It's not for everything, but for what it's for, it works just as well as you could expect.

If you cant figure this pedal out, you should consider another hobby. The "manual" just describes what every knob does and it`s really simple, just twist and rock on.

Sound Quality : 9
I have a Custom Shop Les Paul Goldtop, a Marshall TSL100 and various effectpedals. I use the Sub position most of the time because it sounds better with distortion.Playing single string riffs with the sub-bass position on makes the sound really deep and fat. The pedal is very quiet as well, thats more than i can say about my Marshall though!!.

Reliability : 10
It's made of aluminium, three knobs and a switch. I dont think this one will give up on me.

The only thing i can complain about is it`s lack of a Led-indicator for the on/off switch. If you need a octave pedal i would really recomend this one. You can choose if you want a regular type of octave-effect, or the sub-octave that also features the two filters that makes this pedal unique. Go try one out.

Piece of cake... even came with a little manual explaining the knobs.

Sound Quality : 9
The first time I heard this, I was blown away. It has such a nice warm tone and produces perfect sounding octaves. Not noisy at all. You have to play around with the knobs to get it to sound good with distortion, but I believe it is meant for low gain anyways. Putting the blend knob in the middle gets this cool 60's sounding funky bass/guitar combo. Sounds excellent with flanger.

My setup is
BCRich Acrylic Warlock or Ibanez RG7421XL through the multiplexer into a Roland DAC15-XD. Sometimes I throw in my Dunlop Crybaby into the mix as well.

I'll give this category a 9 only because you can't do chords on it... it's a one-tone pedal.

Reliability : 10
As with all Electro-Harmonix effects, this is built like a tank. No worries. You should get a power adapter for it though because all effects suck up batteries pretty quickly.

Never dealt with them.

This pedal is amazing and I can't stop playing with it. Warning: after using this pedal, you will not play without it for a long time. It adds such character to the sound it's unbelieveable. If it were stolen, I would definately get another one. It allows you to experiement with new techniques and styles. I only wish it had an LED so that I knew when it was on. I guess if you really wanted to you could install one.

This pedal is a very easy to get a good sound out of. The controls are self-explainatory. No manual needed, if none is available.

Sound Quality : 8
This is a quiet effect for the most part. However, if you're not a vintage purest, and prefer using your effects in the real world, I suggest making the following modifications. It shouldn't cost you more than $20. They include; Install a DPDT switch for true-bypass. Also, drill a small hole in the rear of the unit for an 1/8" mini-plug that will serve as a power source, to eliminate the use of batteries altogether, and help save the environment. I also recommend installing an LED so that you can visually see that the unit is engaged. All of these parts (except the DPDT switch) are available at Radio Shack. You can also use a single 9V regulated power supply (wall wart) to power between 6-8 effects. Feel free to email me should you have questions on how to make a very affordable power terminal.

My setup is as follows. All guitars (Les Pauls, Strats, Teles, Gretsch) go into a pedal-board/rack control unit. The pedal-board?s chain is as follows:

Electro Harmonix LPB-2, the big brother of the Linear Power Booster (LPB-1) model, this baby adds a touch of drive to your signal (when engaged) and works nicely as a boost for soloing.
Boss TU-2 tuner, which mutes when you tune (ah, thanks Boss)
VOX reissue wah with true-bypass switch
Boss PSM-5 power supply/effects loop, which feeds an Electro Harmonix Octave Multiplexer and Electro Harmonix Big Muff, allowing them to be engaged together, or individually.

The signal then goes back to a Mesa Boogie Dual Rectifier Solo Head and matching 4X12 cabinet. Two outboard effects run through the effects loop and are controlled from 4 switches on the pedal-board. The effects include; a Peavey Valveverb, for reverb and tremolo, and an old Korg SDD-2000 digital delay. The Korg sounds great as an echo unit, because the front end has terrible headroom and tends to break up a little when driven hard, thus creating a more realistic echo simulation. It's also programmable and allows for longer delay times than the typical 300ms offered from older tape models. And by the way, the 4th switch is for the Mesa?s channel switching.

The octave multiplexer and fuzz sound awesome together. Think Led Zepplin, Fool in the Rain intro. I think the octave multiplexer sounds good clean or driven. It's particularly good at tracking on high and low notes, but you have to play with a bit more precision. The least bit of slop tends to throw the tracking off a bit. And forget about chording with it. You can also simulate an MXR blue box vibe on higher notes, with a fair amount of fuzz or drive added.

Reliability : 10
You can depend on Electro Harmonix to last and last. Geoffrey Tesse sells DPDT switches should they ever go out. I believe Stewart MacDonald sells them as well.

Customer Support : 8
Good customer support is available.

I play ryhthm and lead in the style, ala Black Crowes, Tom Petty, etc. I have a few of each of my effects as backups, should anything ever happen. No effects have ever helped me to play better, but they can increase your tonal palette and sonic offerings if used tastfully. And don't forget to love yourself, love each other, and show respect for the Earth. Everything else will follow.
