A bit of getting used to. But once youve got it under control, its great. Switching between sine and square wave with a switch is simple. Beautiful knob control like all EHX gear.

Stupidly good. Beautiful, lush, creamy, smooth. But you can get a warm rough vibrato effect also. I use it for keys. Hate the big run down, but heres how I use it. Korg Rhodes Clone > Moogerfooger Ring Modulator> MC-FX Classic Compressor> EHX Q-Tron> EHX Pulsar>ENX Big Muff> Marshall Echo Head.
It sounds ABSOLUTELY INCREADIBLE so matter where in the signal path though.
I dont get any noise as previously mentioned.
I cant see any flaws. Its just amazing. Also far better that all my recording plug ins.
I've put everything through it. Reved up fast gives a great racing modulation - great with a sequencer and bass drones

I cant say enough. Tried many effects. Hand made, mods, the lot. You should buy this effect. It dominates. So warm and beautiful. But agressive and fast puslation if you want. Get it!!
I would get it again in an instant.

first of all i play bass, so i do not know how this sounds
with guitar.
this is very cool pedal, different wave shapes, i do not think it is
easy to use as there are so many options.
take the tube zipper as an example, the tube zipper aint easy to use at all but its still a kick ass pedal.
the pulsar has three knobs shape rate and depth. it also has a little switch if youd like to move to triangle wave form.

the pulsar is a very good pedal, and you can get great sounds out of it, i combine this pulsar with my double muff, and i get some real cool sounds...
shen at home i use it with a fender 25 bass amp. when at studio i use it with a 65watt peavey amp.
i think that with guitar it would sound great but i cant say cause ive only used it on my hollow body bass.

i play all kinds of shit from the cure to black rebel motorcycle club and such...
if it was stolen i would get another one, i admit.

only reason for a 6 is it actually takes time to figure out. Its a great pedal but you just gotta spend time figuring it out.

Nothing is perfect, but this thing is damn close. Can't beat the versatility plus the Electro Harmonix name. I fell in love with those sick LUSH tones all their effects produce. good pedal

Two knobs, and an on-off switch... DOH!

Interesting sound from this, gives a really nice 'creamy' tone to stuff, subtle, yet obvious. A little noisy, but nothing to worry about IMHO.

Its more than 20 years old, it gets put on the floor and stood on! Nice solid box, not really much to go wrong except worn out pots or switch.

I don't use this little box much at all... I probably wouldn't let it go. If you want to offer me a silly price for it, go to audiopervert.com and go to the contact page, make me an offer, I'll get back to ya!

pretty easy to use. one knob says "intensity", other says "speed". there's a switch for tremelo or chop-use.

i built this one myself. i hope Electro-Harmonix will re-issue this pedal. i can't judge on noise and so, mine is not yet shielded. it does not hum though, that's a credit to the design, not the way i built it.
i heard this baby at first on Megadeth playing Woodstock '99, at the end of "Peace Sells". loved it instantly. i don't care for tremolo, it's the chop feature that really does it for me. basically it switches the sound on and off, with the "intensitiy" set to max.
when not playing, it gives a helicopter sound. i guess if you're looking for a radical sound you won't mind. it swicthes a little noise in and out.
the beauty of this thing is that you can make sounds you normally wouldn't (well, i wouldn't). scraping the strings sounds very cool now, especially if you do it in rhythm with the chopping. you also hear the sound of say a chord change, very cool when the sound is fading.
i love this pedal. 15 minutes after finishing it i had more weird and musical material than i had in a long time.

don't know of any other products doing this, i must admit. thanks to the other poster for mentioning some. but i guess this is just EH style, you'll love it or hate it. i hope it will be re-released, ior should i say "unleashed". only thing is you should not be bothered by the helicopter-sound when not playing.
i happen to love that, and also the radio-stations it picks up. but the EH version won't have radio features, they'll shield it.
i don't mind the radio stations because this pedal takes me on a trip anyway, so the weirder the better.
of course my rating for "value for money" is a 10, the parts were very cheap. but even if EH would charge a moderately high price if they ever rebuild these, i think it's worth it because it's so special.
got to listen first though if it's what you want.

Extremely easy - 2 knobs - speed and intensity. One switch for "trem-chop". No manual - all original and works perfectly.

Unbelievable tremelo sound "Crimson and Clover" -esque. The trem chop adds to the "helicopter effect" of the pulse modulator built in - slicing off the top of the sweep. Remember Pink Floyd - Meddle - this is the sound.

I came across this by sheer luck. Probably the rarest EH pedal there is. I've not been able to find another one anywhere - And I'm the first one to write a review - This pedal has got to be about 25 years old. If anyone knows when EH made these and how many - Please email me. I believe Creamer has made a trem pedal based on this design along with Perscription electronics "Throb" - I've heard the "Throb" - doesn't come close to the Pulsar.
