Eventide H3000-D/SE

its not that its that hard to use, but just so much. its almost like it does to many things. not for some one who just wants to plug in and play.

the unit does sound good, but to me the stock presets are just to much. and what i mean by that is, to processed. to much of everything. the reverbs are way over the top,along with every other effect. you need to go in and tweek everything. and thats a whole catagory in itself.

they have helped with some issues i had.

play everything from rock to jazz. been playing for 25 yrs,i dont think i would by again unless i had an eventide tech standing over my shoulder. and lets face it,the price of these things are nuts.

Piece of cake even if you don't read the manual, and once you do you are only limited by your imagination. Editing patches is a breeze done right from the front pannel. The manual is very easy to understand.That is why it has been used on more top selling albums than I can count. Awesome!!

It sounds awesome the effects range from Robert Plants verb in whole lotta love to smooth reverbs. Every effect is amazing mind blowing that the software guys still cant catch its' tail. I use a Taccam X48 with an Allen&Heath Syncon A, and a Ramsa DA7 so I can choose betwene a beatles/zepplin sound or a chillipepper/elton john sound or a blend of the two depending on the fron end I use. My next purchase is an H8000. Blows any plugin out of the water. You will never be dissatisfied AWESOME!! Nothing is perfect so I gave it a 9.

I record, and produce rock pop hip-hop jazz classical progressive latin blues and oldies and it works for them all. When I need an h910 sound like zepplin used to get a wall of sound or a room or hall sound to make a marimba ring and any thing from autopanners to plates it is all there. I have been recording for 20 years and engineer at Gargoyle Studios. If it was stold I would hunt the person who took it like an animal and bag them lol I am in love with it so I would take it personally, and so would our clients. My favorite feature is the versatility and ease of use. The only thing that compares is an H8000 and the only major difference is it is 8 channels. Once you explore it a little it enspires creativity beyond belife. I know why steve via uses one.

Well, if you never used an Eventide before, it's not very easy to use indeed. There are thousands of things you can do with this amazing thing. However, after some time, some practice and some accurate manual reading there will be no more problems.

With this unit I've got the sound of my dreams. And when I say "Of my dreams" i'm not lying. You can get out every type of sound you got in your mind and more and more. For example, you can get the perfect sound of "Flying in a blue dream", "Alien water kiss", "Ballerina 12/24(very funny effect!)". You can make the 100 % perfect Ballerina sound like this: go to patch number 102 labled "Dual Shift". Once inside you just have to put the left pitch at 900 cents and 180 ms delay and put the right pitch at 500 cents and 360 ms delay. Then set the left and right mx to 75% wet and there you go!! Another example is using the Preset called "Dream Fantasy" or "Canyon Echoes" that make the most marvellous and dreaming distortion and 3d spatial sound with the most amazing and powerful reverb(Steve Vai uses this presets when he plays the G3 ending solo after playing Answers). In conclusion, if you have a very powerful guitar head(I use a Carvin Legacy and a Bogner Ecstasy), and you want the sound you ever dreamed, it's the thing for you! I heard someone saying that the most newer harmonizers like the H8000 or the Orville are tons and tons of times better than the 3000. Well, In my studio I have an Eventide H3000-D/SE, Eventide DSP4500, Eventide GTR-4000 and an Eventide DSP7500. The thing i'm saying it's this: I used them for a lot of time to test them and my favourite remains every time the H3000. It's simply the best one and the cheaper one! I bought the DSP 7500, 13.000 dollars to have more presets, and the SAME SOUND QUALITY of the H3000. You see what to do! I sayed mine! Ciao! P.S 10 as a vote, it's too low! I give him 100.

Can I depend on it? Well, it depends on what I must do! Also if it's like a drug for me! Simply beautiful. When you start using it, you will be his son.

I personally know one of the most important Eventide Engineers (Italo De Angelis), that explained my how to use it, how the presets work, etc. If you buy an Eventide, you will find help always when you are in trouble with it. I upgraded it and it never gone broked!

I play since I was 5 and now i'm 34. Is it a good match? Sure, cause if you are a Steve Vai, Joe Satriani, Van Halen, Steve Morse player you can get the exact sound they have when they play live or in studio. Obviously, if you are brave!
My amp setting includes a Carvin Legacy 2x12 Combo, Bogner Ecstasy amp head with Marshalls speakers and an Egnater groove tube amp.
My effects rack include an Eventide H3000-D/SE, DSP4500, GTR4000, DSP7500, an ADA MP-1, a Digitech DHP-55 harmonizer, a Morley Bad Horsie Wah Wah pedal, a Cry Baby wah pedal and a Digitech effect pedal.
If it will ever get stolen I will immediately buy it again and get anything else. I love all about it! I compared it with tons of other harmonizers and I also bought newer models. But I always prefer this one! The legendary H3000-D/SE!

I'm going to do a quick review for my H3000SE-V. I bought mine back in 1990 and it still works like a charm. You can do great things with MIDI via an expression pedal. Like the other guy said, once you learn what you are doing, the rest is up to your imagination.

Sounds are absolutely beautiful. 13 years has passed and I have yet to hear another company even come close to the lush reverb sounds this unit puts out.

This unit is music inspiring. You'll create a cool sound and spend hours just playing along with it.

The only bad thing is the 1-2 seconds between patch changes. That can be hindering live. I'm sure they've long since worked that out.

Never had a problem in 13 years.

I've used this for many styles and it will works for anything I need. I've been playing 17 years. If mine were stolen or lost, I'd definitely buy another Eventide product.

These were expensive and at 17, I bussed about 1,000,000 tables to buy it. I don't regret it a bit.

It is easy. 600 presets for choosing. If you read the manual you can get the sound that you have in your mind. Every effects, very pedals.
With midi is other thing. You must study. But you can make everything with a midi pedal board or a PC.

The best quality sound.
I use Jerzy Drozd custom guitars, JMP-1 Marshall, Eventide (fx loop), a rack delay (fx loop, behind the Eventide for delays with several dry sounds from Eventide), Peavey Classis 60/60 power amp (with 6L6), and Marshall cabinet.
Pedal board with Mister cry Baby Super (Wah, volume, booster), Boss Acoustic Simulator (good sound with neck humbucker), and Behringer midi pedalboard.
Eventide sound great, the best quality. No noise, no scracths, no humm...

You can depend on it, sure.
It is a hard rack.
I have put a cooler in my flight case, from the back side, but i think it isn't important. Vai have the Eventide without space between the racks. He have not problem.
I have 1 space and the cooler.

The Eventide is for ever.
You can change other multi-fxs, but Eventide no.

I find the unit quite easy to use. The manual is neccesary to get a good overview of the unit, the algorithms and to get a good idea of the flexibility of the unit. Everything is controllable and programmable. If your not used to programming an FX unit don't get into this one. If you are, programming this unit feels quite natural.
The only disadvantage is the 1.5 second gap in switching presets. But that doesn't really bother me, cause I run the D/SE on a different midichannel in a parallel FX setup. So I switch the unit before I need a preset and kick in the loop whenever I need it.

The sound quality is amazing. The unit never gets noisy and the quality of the FX is simply unequalled. These are the highest quality FX I ever heard. I have the unit for over a month now, and it still amazes me. The reverbs are fantastic (8+ second reverb that doesn't loose it's quality or feel even in second number 8), chorusses are unequalled (they even outperform the chorus on my TC 2290). Check this out, the only FX I haven't used yet are the pitch shifts (can you imagine that?), but the presets sound excellent. There is no telling what this thing is capable of.
The newer units mostly provide more flexibility with the programming and connectivity of the FX-blocks. But the sonic quality is not at all different (It just cannot be).
The sound quality is really perfect.

I've only had it for a month, so I really cannot say anything out of my own experience. However, the unit is 5+ years old and is still functioning.

About the customer support, well, same as reliability.

What this thing does for your sound is amazing. You think you have the fx-section of your guitarrig covered? Well, try an eventide, and you won't be dissapointed (maybe in your old gear).

The organization and number of patches take quite a while to get used to. When you are scrolling through patches in the list, it takes a long time to move from patch #200 to patch #600 for example... Once you start to memorize your favorites, it gets easier. It is an older box, so you have to forgive the laggy screen updates when browsing. Parameters and tweaking are great, that knob is amazing. Spin it and it keeps on spinning :) You can get lost in parameters. Many patches have left/right settings separate for each setting, so that means you have to change parameters twice, which is a pain.

It sound beautiful. Despite the age, reverbs are pretty, pitch shifting sound great (+/- 1 octave, then it gets weird :), the classic "stutter" and chorus/flange/delay effects are really nice. I had a TC Fireworx and sold it because when compared side-by-side, the Eventide sounded better to my ears. Clean, precise, enhancing. Effects should add to sound, not cheapen it. If you are worried about your pre-amp/mixers/microphone for optimial quality, your effects should be great too. I am a big fan of virtual/software mixing and plug-ins, but I have not found aplug in that can do what the Eventides do. And then knob is a musical instrument. I tell people: "I play piano, guitar and Eventide."

Perhaps them most fun effects on this box are the delays with repeats. You can get a repeating loop started, adjust pitch, delay length, and other parameters and the sound just grows and changes organically. You really start to get a feel for the box in it seems as though it should be made out of wood or something... Very organic and musical.

My H3000 D/SE was purchased from a New York studio where it got a lot of use. I have used it at home for a year. This winter, I threw it in a $100 4-space flight rack and took it with me to Europe for three weeks to write music. Despite several car trips, trunk rides, airport baggage handling and below freezing tempurates (left it in the trunk twice overnight_ it preformed as expected. Even works fine at 220 volts.

I have emailed eventide before with a question and received no response. I have hears they they are good at resolving hardware problems, but they don't offer too much help for consumers. Remember, this is a company that also makes radar systems.

I love this box. I plan to sell it for another Eventide. If I ever meet an eventide engineer/programmer, I will give them a warm hug. I have owned TC, Lexicon, Alesis (grr) and other brands of effects. I had a Kurzwiel K2600 and the KDFX sounded crappy to me compared to Eventide. I have friends that have played with one patch for over four hours before realizing where the time went. I amuse my 4 year old niece by handing her a microphone and chaning the pitch of her voice. It babysits too :)

It is easy once you learn the language and how the system is set up. The manual could be better but, it is good enough. I still think this is the best processor Eventide makes. I say that because, the D/SE isn't 5,000, its a solid design, you don't need to go to school and buy a Cray computer to program it, and it has the coolest algorithms that some of the other models do not have. Like the Eclipse doesn't have the string modeler algorithm. I got into Eventides because of their unique sound and spaciousness. I like the openness of the the patch factory 1 &2, and the mod factory 1 & 2. You can really get into those algorithms and make some unique sounds. There is enough creative room in this box for anyone how is up for the challenge.

The sound quality is all pro. The trick to getting the most out it is the in/out levels. In my guitar rig the H-3000D/SE seems to like a fairly strong input signal. The bar meters get pegged once in a while but that is ok there is no audible distortion, just a quick transient. I've had mine for a year. Its cozy in the rack, well ventalated.

I baby mine and have never taken it into a hostle club. Its been fine in the rack though.

Never really needed them. I guess Scott Gilfix is the guy to email if you need really good advice.

I play experemental jazz/fusion and like to mutate the sound of the guitar. This box does that well along with the nice verbs and traditional fx types. I wish there was a 1/4 inch jack on the rear panel for remote bypassing. The midi implemtation is fairly good too. I have set up the over mix control to a volume pedal via a CAE RS 10. I would love more remote control features like on the Eclipse and the 4000 series but I need the string modeler and other weird algorithms more. This is the best Eventide for the money and for the guitarists that want the weird w/o having to get a Phd at Eventide U.

I'll be quick to the point on all topics.

If you don't have a general grasp of the basic principals behind effects you'd be wise to learn about them. Knowing what makes a time based effect different from a gain based effect is important when using an Eventide. The parameters in an Eventide aren't labeled for convienence, they are labeled per there actual function in the algorithm. Read up in one of the Tom Anderton books if you need to learn more. Do Not Take internet talk group ideas and their so called "facts" about effects seriously. I know some people DO know what they are talking but, unfortunatly most internet "experts" are just blowing smoke out their asses. Anyway, when I got my Eventide I realized in order to get it to do what I want it to do, I had to learn about how it works and the trickey stuff therein. Its a great box that will do good for 90% of the mad-scientists/sound freaks out there...the other 10% will just have to make their sounds by other means. Editing and getting around on the system takes time...have manual in hand. Its fun, and remember, make the box work for you, you don't work for it.

Its an Eventide, so it sounds great. However, the factory patches suck. The Vai patches suck. The Joe Schmoe patches suck. They should ship these things with the memory empty. I try to make my own sounds out of a particular algorithm and ignore the stock stuff. The algorithms determine what raw components you have to work with to make your sounds. The H3000D/SE has 21. I like the mod factory 1 & 2, they are the most flexible and the trickest to use. I've read that some guys don't dig the reverbs. OK, I can handle that but, the reverbs are so different, so distinct, how can you not like them? I know...put it next to a 480L or a 300 or a M5000 and listen. Those reverbs are so placid compared to the H3000's ability to muster up an alien reverb...or reverb with a tail of 800 seconds. Hello??? This box is for the brave and the fearless. I don't need a Mariah Carey reverb patch on any of my boxes.

They get hot. Leave a single space above the unit. It lets the heat dissapate naturally. Otherwise in an hour or so it will be 350 degs inside. Use rear fans too. It will save the unit from premature death.

They build a solid product. I haven't had to deal with them. Its a trick box, I think some advanced users may know more than the guys workin' there, but that isn't to uncommon where geeks are concerned.

For those who are in love with this stuff, get one. There is nothing else like it.

There are 100's of factory presets to choose from. A lot are very weird but many are useful with some tweaking. The default on the mix is 100% but after you cut that in half they can be used. Editing the presets is not too bad until you get into the some of the more advanced algorithms. The manual is good and you definetly could not use the unit without it but it needs to be a little more detailed.

Sound quality is unreal. Amazing! I'm running it with a Rocktron Pirahna preamp, a BBE 462 and a Rocktron Velocity 250 power amp and the thing is totally transparent. The reverb is by far the bet I've ever heard and the delays are ungodly. I've only had it for a week and I'm still figuring out the pitch shifting but from what I've messed with so far it is without a doubt the best out there.

So far so good. I bought it used from a recording studio and they said they had never had any problems with it either.

I mostly play hard rock and metal but dabble in many other styles. From a lead guitar standpoint the delays, reverbs and shifting make this thing perfect for my style. The phasor and chorus presets are the best I've ever heard too. I've owned rocktrons, arts and digitechs and this is by far the best in my opinion. The price is outrageous though and Eventide should make a cheaper model (under $1000) like Lexicon does and gear it more to guitar players.
