I have an anecdote which I would like to share with those who peruse these reviews, but first ... This is the CC2 which purported to be the quintessential 'Jimi' pedal. It is a very straightforward pedal (especially for those who know what to expect from these effect types)in terms of useability. 3 effects in one, which can be physically reordered because there are discrete Input/Output patches behind each of them. A detailed manual with all sorts of setting suggestions to get you started. There are features on the Provibe which require explanation to the virginal user but the other two can be exercised easily via garden variety knob twisting.

My rig is very basic, an old Marshall JCM 800 4104 50w combo loaded with NOS tubes and greenbacks in the speaker department. A 52' reissue Tele, an original 78' Tele and a 54' reissue strat w/ Kinman Woodstock pups in it. All three effects are extremely clean and definable.
The PROVIBE : (a souped up Univibe clone) is lush and vibrant when you set it that way, or can be very subtle if that's your agenda. I can get outrageous chorusing and vibrato effects from it or simply adjust the dials to allow for more tonal transparency.
The FUZZFOOT : I've got the hybrid card (a germanium transistor coupled with a silicon based transistor in the circuit) which can be adjusted internally, which is a no brainer because the little trimmer mounted on the fuzz card is set completely clockwise, so you can trim it back and experiment from there with ease. Mostly, the fuzz's huge low end tone (when your guitar's volume is on full) can be made leaner which is probably a more suitable idea for Humbucker equipped guitars. A very tight and responsive fuzz which in my opinion is a perfected issue of the original Dallas Arbiter Fuzz Face.
And on to the OCTAVE : which is very deceptively the simplest of the 3 to use. 2 knobs, very organic and it's abilities absolutely live up to it's promise. Very cool octave up with fuzz where I personally find great and different character when used in all pickup positions. You can (which I prefer) turn the fuzz all the way down and get even more interesting ring modulator type effects when playing with your guitar's volume control as well.

This is where the story should be told. The CC2 that I have been reviewing is actually my second (and final I might add) CC2 pedal. The first, I bought used through a dealer (shipped via internet purchase)and since I'm from Canada, payed $500.00 Canadian for it. When I received it, to look at it, the thing was great. And now to hear it, it would echo any bad review I've read on this site. The Provibe was intermittent and when it was functioning there wasn't much effect happening. The Fuzzfoot sounded pretty fine and operated normally. The Octave was very ratty sounding in the fuzz category and a disapointment. Now since I've literally owned every hyped pedal in every variety, brand (and I'm a huge fan of pedal effects),vintage and otherwise, this was not what I had expected. I am an experienced Audio Technician and hoped to locate the problem and repair it myself.
Well the problem had been more elusive that I hoped, so instead of simply gutting it and changing any part of the original circuitry to get it working I attempted what I thought would be a long shot. Now with respect to human error (because these things do happen), the CC2 is at the absolute top of buildership, craftsmanship and technology. And yes, gigging without a backup is what I have been doing for months.

I thought it would be appropriate to finish the story in this section. So I actually tried to contact Dave Fox himself as a last ditch effort. Well, he not only responded, he offered his help for nothing. He mentioned that my era CC2 had coincided with a period where one of his techs had been crimping the wiring in the wire harness improperly, so by the time he had caught the problem, a number of CC2s had slipped out and eventually were sold to unsuspecting buyers. So he shipped me a bunch pre-crimped wires, spare knobs and assorted knick-knacks out to me for free. I replaced the Provibe related wiring crimps but the problem was still deeper.
Well I emailed Dave again and explained the situation, thanked him for being communicative, friendly and gracious with his help and time and basically thought the book had been closed on the issue for the time being. Dave responded to this and informed me to send my problematic CC2 back to him, and he would not only ship me a brand new one, but would test it himself before sending it. Also he offered me my choice of extra fuzz card, expression pedal, or Wah retrofit for my troubles! Needless to say I received my new CC2 and this thing is nothing short of amazing.

Corresponding with Dave through my technical ordeal was a pleasure, and there are few people out there of his kind in his chosen profession. My story is proof that he believes in his products and will stand behind them 100% Overall, in my opinion this unit is simply the best of it's kind.
And in terms of value, tally up a spending spree on an original Univibe, Fuzz Face, Octavia or the many boutique clones out there and you will be spending astronomical amounts for no reason when you can get all three for 6 bills.
As a guitarist for the last 16 years who plays professionally has been on the road, recorded in major studios, and built a studio of my own), I love this pedal. Clearly if you've heard about the CC2 somewhere and expect magic, you won't get it; however if you are interested in great fuzz, octave and rotating leslie type effects, or Jimi Hendrix's tone period, THIS IS FOR YOU.

These effects arent for the POD/Boss generation (even though thats me!) I dont see any of them as the kind of thing you can buy and plug into your crate/peavey/cheap fender, etc.... and get a great tone out of. I guess you could to a certain degree with the ProVibe but through a cheap amp its gonna sound flat.
These are tone tools for real guitar players. Even so it can take a while to really find the playing style and settings that yeild the best results for each of these effects. Especially the Octave and fuzz. Thier 2 effects that sound very different when you change settings, playing technique, and amp/guitar. Thats nothing unique to the CCII. Its inherent in the effects.
The default effect order is the way I would want it.

Hmmm... This will probably be long. Ill go by catagories.
Equipment - I will make one note here about my equipment. I use alot of different gear but Im probably at odds with most people here because my setup, for the most part, is with humbucking guitars and often with alot of gain. I do use strats but not nearly as much as LP's and LP type guitars. I do like vintage overdrive (and own those types of amps) but I also use gain boosting OD pedals & high gain amps alot.
Construction - These are inherently noisy effects but Im impressed by the lack of noise. Its no more noisey then your average single boss distortion pedal only it is true bypass.
Octave - Octavia is my favorite effect. I seem to be strange since most people find this thier least favorite or just outright dont like it. The octave effect is the most style dependant of all 3 effects. like most pitch shifting effects, it likes the neck pickup, it likes single notes and it likes certain "sweet" spots on the neck. 12th fret and higher seem to bring out the most of the effect. The added upper octave looses clarity the more gain you add. Your mileage may vary when you play intervals, double-stops and chords. Its a unique sound when you do, Ill say that. Has its moments. Its the nature of these types of effects. One reason I think many dont like Octavia is they dont know how to use it right. Putting an octavia effect in front of a clean amp or bright amp like a fender is gonna sound harsh and awefull. Unless thats what your going for. Every great octavia sound on record has come from putting an octavia before an overdriven tube amp. It just fits. It tames the harshness and the peaks of the effect and smooths it out to a really nice singing tone. Fox even says that in the manual for people unfamiliar with octavia. Ive heard the CCII octave get criticized here. Everyone has a right to thier opinion, however, I feel the criticism may come from people who dont really know what an octavia should sound like. People get ideas in thier head of how something is supposed to sound from listening and dont realize just how different it does sound while playing it. The one in the CCII seems a little grittier then others Ive played but Im convinced its the closest to the actuall original Hendrix octavio. The Roger Mayer RI and the Fulltone Ultimate Octave are definitly nice pedals but it seems thier more about being user freindly. Its easier to plug them in and get a pleasing sound. If thats for you then so be it, thier great pedals and Ive owned them both, but I really feel the CCII Octave has them both beat in the tone department. At least the originality and earthiness. There was something about the Roger Mayer one that rubbed me the wrong way.
Putting the Octave before an OD or distortion pedal or before a high gain amp will yeild a great sound too. I do that alot. For example in the song Crystal Planet, it sounds like Satriani has his Ultimate octave before his DS-1 in some parts. It definitly sounds cool that way as well. I get that kind of sound using my CCI octave in front of my SLO-100. I like it. I like this effect in the CCII very much.
Fuzz - This is the effect I use the least. Most people find this thier favorite effect and the FuzzFoot is a highly regarded fuzz. Its probably because I use mostly humbucking guitars that I dont use it as much. Fuzz sounds best with strats. Thats OK. I do use it for interesting sounds like an in-agodda-davita kinda crazy sound. I can get a great and accurate Eric Johnson tone using the fuzzfoot into my Plexi. With my strat its just awesome. With a setup Strat=Fuzzfoot=Plexi you can really get the Hendrix Vibe. Or just the late 60's rock sound in general. Theres far to many fuzz's back then and now, it seems, to nail all fuzz sounds. But the hybrid fuzz card does a good job of it missing only the most extreme fuzz sounds one way or the other. I like the idea of the Fuzz card although Im not into fuzz enouph to buy more then 1

I cant really say yet. Ive owned 2 CCII's. My first I bought new and had to sell about a year later. I really hurt myself doing that. I never had any problems of any sort with that one. When I could I bought this second one used. Its the same in most ways and was like new however the Vibe kind of fades out in intensity after a few seconds when the speed is set to the very lowest settings. Ive been talking to Dave about this and he's been very descriptive and polite. Although Im not thrilled about it I know I could send it in and have it taken care of without any hassle. When I decide to add it to my live rigg or before Im in the studio next I will definitly send it in. It is extremely well built though. And heavy if that means anything to you.

This effect is for real players and I like it very much. I do also own a Fulltone Ultimate Octave and a SS UltraVibe. Thier great effects in thier own right but I do prefer their counterparts in the CCII for most things. If I had to choose Id take the CCII over both the other effects.
My opinions as to how close these effects sound to the originals comes only from studio experience and studying recordings with those effects. Ive never owned or played an original of any of these effects accept UniVibe. I had a chance to record a track with an early one a few years back. Ive done alot of studio work and have alot of engineering experience. Combine that with being a real player (not just hobbiest) I have alot of experience with how things sound while playing compared to how they come out souding on record. Thats not totally conclusive though but despite that fact I think I can say very confidently your getting very accurate and great sounding effects in this package. Its definitly a great value.

Being picky, it took an hour or so to really get it dialed in for my tastes. Even today, I still tweak the knobs constantly. The manual was quite helpful; it gives you some good starting points. The ability to patch the effects in different orders is a real plus (just like 3 individual pedals).

The sound quality is excellent! My set up is: Gibson (LP or 335)- Analog Man Squeezer- Teese Wah- CC2- Boogie IV (or Engl Speeedster)- Cele. Greenbacks. This unit is not noisy at all. The manual states that the CC2 likes to see Strats & single coils but I think it sounds great thru my setup. Being a Gibson guy, I haven't really tried to nail the "Hendrix' or "Trower" sounds even though I play in a cover band. It's hard for me to compare this with a lot of other effects; I like it and that's all I really care about.

I play cover material but don't really try to "copy" the original artists' sounds. I've been playing over 20 yrs and buy products that I like; regardless of fads. I really like the wide range of usable tones you can get; Hendrix lovers could better opine about nailing "his" tone. I would definitely buy this again and would highly recommend it!! I give this a "9" because it is not inexpensive.

If you are are in to jimi,SRV,Kenny wayne,Corey Stevens,etc... Get ready to rob their sound when you plug this pedal in.The Vibe is as good if not better than any $350 DEJA VIBE I've heard. I'm not knocking the Deja Vibe at all, but thats allmost what I spent on the whole Captian Coconut pedal!! Not to metion the Fuzz...Their again, way off the charts! I had the $50 germainium kit installed for that vintage sound. I am very pleased with the tone change I get just from the volume on the guitar. From clean to mean. And There is the Octave, I don't use it a whole bunch, but when you do the sound is truely outstanding. As far as I'm concerend nothing so far has nailed the tone I was trying to acheive until I got this Pedal. This thing breaths all kinds of life into your old gear. And for the price you can't go wrong! I would easily pay $600 for this unit to replace it. My friend has the same effects setup except from Fulltone and he was blown away by the sound quality I have for about $300 less. This is One amazing sounding pedal! I don't have money to throw away on junk imitations and I was a little skeptical at first about paying $450 on a multi-effects pedal, But one listen is all it took to convince me. When playing along with CD's, I have a hard time distinquishing my sound from the oringinal. Also very quiet even with single coils. This pedal is also capable of allowing you to create your own sound, which is why it will probably never leave my pedalboard.

I've currently have been playing about 8 years, and for the most part play blues and some early rock.I need to keep the volume down where I live so I use a 65' Deluxe RI with Smicz 1 Watt tubes instead of stock 6v6. I run a 1960 Closet Classic Strat through a Vox wah,Captian Coconut, and a Fulltone Fulldrive 2. With this set up I can get pretty much any sound I want in the blues, rock, catagory. The only complaints I have is that my fingers hurt and I'm going through alot of strings. I can barely stay off this thing long enough to write this review.

i am using Fender Custom Shop Ri '52 Tele, Paul Reed Smith Custom 22, and Fender Strat Am Std(all guitars are LEFTY) into >>TU-2>>overdrive(bd-2 or ts808)>> DD3(delay) >>TR-2(tremolo)>>CC2>>Whammy 1>>Vox Clyde Mccoy RI>> 2001 Reissue Marshall Super Lead 100WATT. I personally was not that impressed with the CC2.. the Provibe, while defintely better than dunlops' uni-vibe(which is a piece of shit), wasn't all that intense of a sound. it was smooth though, but it wasnt present enough.. The Fuzz was the defintely the shit though. i got mine with NOS NKT-275 fuzz card and it sounded right on... total hendrix fuzz, and excellent clean up with guitar volume as promised.. octavia part was alright, but not as good as roger mayer's octavia, i mean roger invented the damn thing..I bought the whole pedal really for the Provibe, and a couple days after i bought it i took it down to show my effect tech, who happened to have one of the first Rack Mounted provibes.. when i got there, we decided to hook it up to the roger mayer voodoo vibe, and at that time i had never heard the voodoo vibe.. we used one of the 2002 reissue Marshall Super Leads they had, and i first clicked on the CC2, stummed some chords and said alright, turned it off, and then clicked on the voodoo vibe... the first words out of my mouth were, "you wanna trade..?" it sounded different, but better.. cleaner, louder, more of "i'm grabbing your note in a headlock and spinning it around.." as opposed to just twirling 'around' your note.. the roger mayer is also more quiet.. i'm not saying the voodoo vibe is better, but i liked it more.. according to my tech though, the provibe in the cc2, he thought, didnt sound nearly as good as his rack mounted provibe.. thats to be expected though when your making 5 times more units than you were. if you were to never hear the roger mayer voodoo vibe, and all you knew of was say the deja vibe, ultra vibe, and the provibe, than you would think the provibe was the holy grail.. i'm giving a 7 because the provibe seemed a little week, while the fuzz is the shit, and the octave could have been better..

this is where its really at.. i bought it through Analog Man, and he was the shit. i'd email him, he'd email me back same day, sometimes in a matter of minutes... after trying the cc2 for a week, i decided it wasnt for me and sent it back.. i emailed him late at night and told him i wanted to UPS overnight it back to him the next day. theni went to his website and after searching for awhile, a found a section saying they wouldnt except refunds after having the pedal for two or more days.. i was like great, i'm about to get the shaft out of $460, expecting for him to tell me it was too late to send back.. he emailed me back, and told me go ahead and send it.. I was like hell yeah.. by him doing that for me, it guranteed that i would make another purchase from him.. he makes bad ass pedals and mods, defintely the best of the best!! i just happened to be one of the few people, at least from what i've read, who did not like the provibe in the cc2..

my style of music is pretty diverse.. my band is kinda like Hendrix meets Red Hot Chile Peppers meets Tool/RATM... we'll kick a 12 bar blues, then the next song might be all out ruthless.. like i said, i returned the pedal.. immediately after recieving my money back, i went and bought the Roger Mayer Voodoo Vibe. I liked it that much!! I would tell anyone who's thinking of getting a CC2 that it is a very good pedal, but for me i think individual pedals are the way to go.. not to mention, i would tell them to try a voodoo vibe first.. they may not like it as much, and may even prefer the Provibe, but at least they checked out the competition.. by the way i actually thought the Deja Vibe and Provibe sounded very very much a like.. i didnt hook them up together so i cant give specific differences, but they were very close to one another.. all in all, i would get the Analog Mans Sun Face, a Roger Mayer voodoo vibe, and Roger mayer octavia, while its defintely way more expensive to buy all three of these pedals individually rather than just buying one pedal(cc2), i think it would sound better. at least to my taste.. every musician has their own preference though, so while i didnt like it, you may think it is the shit...

THE CC2 IS AMAZING!!! 3 PART REVIEW.....
1. OCTIVE.
THE OCTIVE SECTION IS VERY RESPONSIVE(WHICH CAN MAKE IT HARD TO USE AND UNDERSTAND FOR BEGINNERS) BUT THE TONE IS GREAT WHEN USED PROPERLY. IT CAN BE MISUSED DUE TO THE SENSITIVITY OF THE KNOBS. THAT ALSO TRANSLATES TO QUALITY. DON'T YOU HATE IT WHEN YOU TURN A KNOB AND YOU DON'T HERE A DIFFERENCE FOR THE FIRST OR LAST QUARTER OF THE TURN????? NONE OF THAT HERE!!!
2. FUZZ.
THE FUZZ IN MINE WAS MODDED BY MIKE AT ANALOGMAN. HE SPRINKLED HIS MAGIC ON IT AND IT IS WORTH THE PEDALS WEIGHT IN GOLD!!!!!! I DO NOT KNOW WHAT IT SOUNDED LIKE BEFORE HE MODDED IT SO I CAN NOT COMMENT ON THE CC2 FUZZ UNLESS YOU GET IT FROM ANALOG MAN. IT IS, WITH THE MOD, AS GOOD AS MY CLASSIC $450 ORIGINAL FUZZ PEDALS FROM THE 60S!! KEEP IN MIND THIS WHOLE BOX WAS AROUND THE PRICE OF ONE ON THE OLD FUZZ FACES. YOU GET 2 OTHER PEDALS HERE IN A GREAT BOX!! THE FUZZ(MODDED BY ANALOG MAN) IS TOP SHELF!! FUZZFOOT ROCKS THE TONE. PERIOD. I STATE MY NAME AND REPUTATION ON IT!
3. UNIVIBE(PROVIBE)
THE PROVIBE IS A UNIVIBE WITH OUT THE CRACKLE FROM BEING OLD. WITHOUT THE NEED TO PLUG IN A FUZZ OR OCTIVE AND ADD PATCH CABLES TO "RAISE THE NOISE FLOOR" IN YOUR CHAIN. YOU CAN BE JIMI HENDRIX WITHOUT THE EXTRA CABLES!!! IT SOUNDS GREAT ON ITS OWN. IT IS WARM AND LUSH. ARTICLATE AND LIKE THE OTHERS, VERY RESPONSIVE!! I CAN NOT BE HAPPIER!!! I HAVE FOUND THE ANSWER FOR 3 PEDALS HERE!!! ALL IN ONE BOX!!!
IN SHORT, THIS IS WHAT JIMI WOULD HAVE USED IF IT WAS AROUND THEN OR BETTER YET, IF HE WAS AROUND NOW. KEEP IN MIND "ANALOG MAN MODDED THE FUZZ PART!!!" IF YOU WANT "THE EXPERIENCE" I SPEAK OF, YOU MUST GET IT FROM HIM. HE IS A GREAT GUY. A PLEASURE TO DO BUSINESS WITH AND VERY HELPFUL. THE SOUND IS GREAT, EACH ON THERE OWN OR ANY COMBO OF THEM TOGETHER. THE MOST VERSITILE AND ESSENTIAL PEDAL THAT I BOUGHT NEW, EVER IN MY LIFE. I HAVE OWNED THEM ALL. HOW IS THAT FOR A "SOUND REVIEW?"

This is where I felt I needed to write review. Now I didn't actually buy this thing, but I had a deposit when I saw a local store had it cheap over the web. It was used, but dead mint. Being that is was used, it IS possible that there was something wrong with it by A.)The previous owner mucking with it, or B.) Something wrong from the factory that got past QC (Which might be why it ended up for sale!)
When I plugged it in, I as VERY dissapointed. The octave had VERY little effect, regardless of settings. The Vibe, didn't have much "vibe" at all. The chorusing was very one-dimensional sounding, and wasn't too inspiring. The ECS would have been cool, had the sound been nicer int eh first place. The fuzz foot I will say was absolutely AWESOME. If Dave comes out with a (small) standard production unit, I'll probably pick one up. Great range of tones from clean to nasty in the fuzz.
To make sure I wasn't expecting too much, or crazy , or having a "bad ear day" (It can happen right?, I A/B'd the CC2 with some other pedals.
For octave I compared against the Fulltone Octa fuzz and Ultimate Octave, and the PE Experience. All 3 left the CC2 in the dust.
For vibe I compared to Fulltone Deja vibe2 and the Voodoo labs microvibe. Both sounded superior to my ears, and I tried tweaking the CC2's knobs f or a while to try to be fair.
The Fuzzfoot needed no comparisons as it was quite great as is.

After playing this box. I must say the concept is cool, and I was excited when I was intent on purchasing it. However, if the unit I played is normal and there is nothing wrong with it (the demos ont eh site sound a little better to me, but not a ton), then it doesn't live up to the hype! There has been SO MUCH HYPE about this thing since it came out that I wanted to give a different perspective to it. So if you are checking out a used one on ebay, make sure there is some form of return policy as it seems there is another CC2 up there every week.

I only have had the unit for 1 month but I have already used it at a few gigs with a Carvin Holdsworth (fatboy, great guitar!), a Tom Anderson classic hallow strat and a Ibanez as200 (Scofield, also an excellent guitar!), an old Rat, a line6 dl4 and sometime a Buddha-wha. The amp is a Fender 75 (very good old and cheap tube amp)with EVM. I use an expression pedal (boss ev-5 wich works great) to control the speed of the modulation in the vibe. The sound is excellent all the way through. I admit I have not used the fuzz that much as I tend to use the rat (I guess I'm just too used to it). I think the fuzz is quite sensitive to temperature even though I have the standard card. But this is not a problem actually since there is a control (on the outside fo the box) that let you compensate for climate changes. The octave bit is mervellous and I did't think I would so quikly be addict to it. I sometime create live loops with the dl4 and with the octave I can put some interesting noise in the loops by playing 2 tones at a time. Great when used to solo (very easy to control dynamics). The vibe is also excellent but I can not compare to ather units of that kind. It just sounds very smooth, warm and deep and to be able to control the speed of the wave adds a lot of dynamics to the performance. I got positive comments on my sound even from non guitarist musician (actually even from non musician people).

Can not really comment on this one yet. The chassis looks really solid, the knob have a heavy duty feel and the design is great as even the 2 switches (wich could be the most fragile parts)look like are protected by the angle on the surface of the unit (look at the pictures of the unit on the www.analogman.com site I got it through Analogman (Mike)wich is very helpfull and prompt in answering e-post. For me it is really worth the price. I am playing modern jazz, rock and fusion and the CC2 adds a lot of colours. I will take time to experiment with the fuzzfoot but right now I use my trusty rat. Really when I think of what you get for the price and compare for example to the pedalman 818pro I bought sometime ago and wich alone coasts 100 USD more, I think it is a great deal. The kind of effects in the CC2 are classic effects wich will work for most genres.

this thing is quiet cept the usual strat pickup noise. the effects are top notch, not quiet in some cases it can add to the volume i almost don't need the tube screamer but i like so i keep it. the only thing i need is a better wahwah, the one i have makes some nasty chirps and crap. at first the provibe was wierd then i listened to Hey Baby, Mechine Gun, Cold Shot. and off the bat i could get the same speed and sound, everything and this one has such a lush smooth vibe it's intoxicating, an eye opener. so worth the money. i also have a sunface from analogman, its good and so is the fuzzfoot on the cc2 they are a little different the feed back on it is tits. i understand how to use the octive but it takes getting use to, very cool in it's own right.. this is not a beginners toy it's and pro's tool.

i play jam/dub/reggie/blues/rock/funk/jazz or try to any way. i'm in to the whole psychadelic blues/rock anything that has a good beat really! i guess i've played for 7 years and have baught some crapy gear and some really good gear(my problem is i keep just about eveything i buy. this is the best investment by far that i've baught in a long time.it will not be stolen i have a pittbull and she guards my guitar stuff. if it did i would get another! where else can you get three vintage pedals for 400 bucks think about it i saw an old uni-vibe on ebay for 400 and octive for 800 and the fuzzface for 300.00 for get that shit.. 1,500.00 i can buy a new guitar or amp....to me this is a good value but i did concider other things for a year before i broke down and got the cc2. it was worth it. the sounds you get are just well....tits(This Is The Shit)

Ease of Use
:

Update to my earlier posting.
Incoming power was the problem that resulted in not being able to get good octave sounds.
Since that problem has been solved, the product works extremely well, so I am upgrading my ease of use.

Fixing the incoming power supply problem fixed the overall sound out of this pedal.
It now works like a charm!
