Others have covered this well...mine is the first version , but I owned the CC2 a couple years ago. The main diffs are: The CC2 has the fuzz card option , ECS and the default order of effects was changed where the fuzz is before the provibe(in the CC2)...of course they can be patched in any order. I never used the ECS setting and like the PNP germanium sound best...therefore the one I own now is perfect for me!
Features...it has everything you need!

The fuzz and the octive do require some learning curve to get the most from them...and very amp picky!

Sound Quality : 10
I sold my CC2 because I was not using the Fuzz (not in to fuzz at the time) much or the octave...provibe was in use a bunch though. Foolist it was to sell that pedal! I tried several vibe units to replace that one and always came up short...I also bought an Analogman Sunface and worked with it until I found the cool sounds I wanted to hear.It made sense to go back to the best sounding vibe unit I have ever heard plus now I would have another kick *** fuzz that I would use(after aquiring a taste for fuzz).

The provide simlpy rules! I found it to be more compatitble with over- drive and fuzz than other vibes. It is the one to have!

The Fuzzfoot is totally kickin...when set up right can be very warm or as nasty as you wish!I use both the Fuzzfoot from the CC and the Sunface... I have them tweeked differently for each amp that I use(two amp set up)...I use the fuzzfoot for wooley over the top Philip Sayce sounds and the Sunface for milder blues overdrive. The pedals can sound a lot alike but are different enough that I won't part with either!

I use the octave sparingly...I figure it's a bonus to have on board! It is a little tricky to work it right but can be cool once you figure out how you want to use it.

Now that the prices have gone up....I won't be letting this one go.

Reliability : 10
Never a problem with either one!

Customer Support : 10
No worries here!

Overall Rating : 10
Absoluty the my favorite pedal ...I could easily use just the CC by it's self as an only pedal and be quite satified...however I don't have to , so I do have other effects...but if I wanted to just grab one amp and one effect , I could simplify and not feel like I am missing anything! No other pedal I have found would do that for me.

This thing is fantastic and will go to the grave with me! Damn glad I have one again!

Even now with the prices are @ 500-600 for the discontinued unit...it still is a value compared to purchasing a good single version of each pedal.

This pedal is extremely easy to use. At every setting there is something new and cool sounding. I didn't understand the patching system at first glance but it's very easy. You just have to check out the Foxrox website. The beauty about these analog effects is that they are simple and a pleasure to use. If you are lucky enough to get one of these, you should definately experiment with different settings and different effect orders. It's easy to get a jaw dropping, fuzzy, cream filled, balls to the walls, heavenly, awesome sound out of this thing.

Sound Quality : 10
Hmm... It's the best sounding freaking thing I ever bought! I'm in love right now, and it's with my guitar sound! I just can't put it down. I want to play guitar all the time now and I've had it for over a month! I own a lot of different pedals. You may say that I was obsessed with buying different pedals always trying to find a cool new sound. Well my friends, I now feel that my effect pedal quest is finally over. I have like forty(all very good ones by the way). But none do I love more than the CC. I have lots of different fuzzes, some of which were a pretty penny. But somehow Dave Fox created just the perfect fuzz with the Fuzzfoot! I recently played a show using a Z.Vex Fuzz Factory. When the time came to do my solo; the only solo I had that night; the Fuzz Factory actually dropped my volume down from my clean sound! I mean low. I was pissed. And I believe it was set on full blast! The Fuzzfoot on the other hand has PLENTY of volume and this will never happen! This fuzz rocks! Unlike other fuzzes, the sound and character of your guitar never goes away. It sounds good when you turn down the guitar's volume. It also is the best sounding fuzz I own when being used with a wah. When you turn the drive knob all the way up, this thing is just FAT. The Provibe alone is worth the price I paid for the pedal. The potential is limitless and the possibilities are endless. There is so much you can do to shape your sound especially if you have the expression pedal. But even without it you have a lot to manipulate. There are so many ways to set it and every way sounds cool and useful. It is just so cool, lush, thick and warm sounding. My favorite is patching it in the order of Guitar-wah-Fuzzfoot-Octave-Provibe. Man! I really think you can do a lot with this and get great sounds. I can't help trying to imitate Hendrix while I'm using the CC right now although I bought the pedal to just get an incredible guitar sound and play my own way not trying to play and sound like Hendrix. But I also bought the pedal because i LOVE HENDRIX! And the octave does what it does perfectly in that dirty, raw, unpredictable noisy way. Oh yeah and the noise level is very limited.

Reliability : 9
It's an incredible design in my opinion. I think it is built very well and made to last forever. I did have send it in to get repaired once because a part inside failed but the process was pain free.

Customer Support : 10
I had to get mine repaired once and Dave Fox was very fair. He fixed it for a fair price and was very courteous and thorough with his explanations.

A couple years ago I got so excited as I was reading in some Guitar magazine about Digitech's new Jimi Hendrix pedal. Digitech and Eddie Kramer went into the old masters and actually digitally copied the sound of Hendrix's guitar to make a Digitech Hendrix pedal($200). I bought it, took it home, played with it for one week trying to like it but I just thought it sounded awful. It literally hurt my ears. Then later I stumbled opon this Foxrox pedal and went ahead and got it even though it cost a bit more. But this is what I was looking for. It is well worth the price. I was not let down one bit. It just sounds so incredible. I couln't believe it. I love it!!! What a wonderful piece of equipment! I'm gonna go play with it some more right now. Hell yeah! I'm the luckiest man alive to own this beautiful effect processor! Yeah!

Simple as all hell to use... You can almost dial up every Hendrix song with this thing. There are lots of different settings you can toy with.. turn this up.. turn that down.. alot of intricacies in the settings.. allowing for a wide array of tones.

Sound Quality : 9
Fuzz - Sounds absolutely killer, can be very biting or muddy... you can back it it off for a milder overdrive setting... its meant to be in your face and balls tone, and it does it well.
Vibe - I like the sound of it.. and the center control makes a big difference... ive messed around with it and cant settle on one setting.. i usually have the width all the way up. Sounds good for a vibe, although not thick enough for my taste. Also has a good vibrato setting too.
Octave - very tricky beast.. can give you some cool tones or some pretty damn shitty ones.. its all about how you dial it in and how you play it. its tricky to get the right sound out of it.. but it works great.

Now of course chaining them together is a whole other possible headache/science project, it allows you patch them in which order you want, and it makes a big difference in sound when running at least 2 effects together... some can sound really cool and others might be unpredicatable (the fuzz and octave together can be troublesome), theres SO much that you can do with all the different variables though.. but the tones are all great.

Reliability : 10
I've used this as almost my sole pedal. Since i back the fuzz down to an overdrive, and a distortion.. Can use the vibe for a full univibe or mellower chorus, as well as a vibrato... the octave is just a funny thing all by itself, mostly for effect. This thing is rock solid though, I gig a lot and my shit takes a beating and this pulls away just fine

Customer Support : 9

I have my own Blues/Rock band.. Ive done everything from traditional blues to classic rock to top 40. as well as lots of original work. I've.played with everybody from old blues artists to more contemporary people like steve vai and sheryl crow. My guitars are a '63 Fender Strat, '96 Les paul studio Gem, a 70's strat, and a few customized electric dobros i use for slide. Effects chain : GUITAR -> CAPTAIN COCONUT -> BOSS TU-2 TUNER -> IBANEZ TS808 OVERDRIVE -> BOSS SD1 OVERDRIVE -> MARSHALL GV2 GUV'NOR -> DOD FLANGER -> ARION CHORUS/LESLIE -> MXR MICRO-AMP -> LINE 6 DELAY -> VOX WAH -> 1966 FENDER SUPER REVERB. Playing some of Hendrix's psyched out tunes are a blast with this thing.. as well as I do a lot of songs like my buddy Doyle Bramhall II - suits it well. He as well as Kenny Wayne Shepherd like it alot. Doyle almost wanted to buy mine to save pedal board space since he has the univibe, dallas arbiter fuzz, and roger mayer octavia - KWS has been using one for a while now... Everybody asks me what the hell a coconut is.. but hey i just say listen.. im lovin it myself.

Incredibly easy to use. The nuber of knobs can be overwhelming but you can dial up a great sound easily. The manual also helps with some good suggestions.

Sound Quality : 10
I use a Rickenbacker 620 to a route 66, then a jeckyl and hyde, captain coconut, Ibanez swell flanger, late 70's phase 90, maxon ad90, to fender deville. The sound of this unit is incredible especially the vibe, it is so warm, thick and warbly it will blow your mind.

Reliability : No Opinion
Solid as a rock.

I only give a 9 because as other people have said your really need to spend alot of time with this unit. This is not a bad thing because the rewards are well worth it.The effects interact in many ways as do the settings for each.

Sound Quality : 10
This thing is totally Hendrix and can be a whole lot more. The fuzz foot is the best sounding fuzzface clone I have ever heard. The controls really interact. The "grit" control really lets you dial in some wicked fuzz tones. When the drive is lower it cleans up well with your guitar volume knob.

Provibe- incredible univibe clone. I have never owned a real one but this thing nails the Hendrix, Trower, Gilmore stuff well. I like it last in the chain with the volume up.

Octave- As good as any I have head if not better. This is an effect you use sparingly as it can grate on you if overused. Tracks real well on bends. Much better than the PE Experience pedal I had.

Reliability : 9
I don't anticipate any problems. It is a big, solid, heavy unit.

Customer Support : 10
Dave Foxx is a great guy. I had the pleasure of meeting him at the Philly guitar show. He was hanging out with the unit jamming all day. I copped some real good settings from him.

Obviously he takes great pride in this unit as well he should. There is quite a wait for these but I believe it is worth it. Luckily I found one used which is extremely rare. He is making some changes to the new ones. Judging from the way the effects market goes, that will probably mean I can claim mine is worth more because it was in the first batch!

Overall Rating : 10
This unit is not cheap but then again it doesn't sound like it. As people have pointed out, if you bought the best of these effects separately you probably would pay more and not have as good a sound.

I am not a Hendrix freak who has to cop his tone. However, it will do that and alot more.

One thing- this unit seems to like Marshalls better than Fenders. I'm sure you can dial in nice tones with a Fender but I have spent more time with the Marshall because it immediately sounded better.

You need to sit down and really mess around with the diffrent settings on this unit because it has SO MANY really cool sounds you can get. The manual is helpful, but it really is simple to adjust and find a cool "Hendrix" tone.

Sound Quality : 9
I use mine with a Mesa-Boogie Trem-O-Verb head and 2x12 or 4x12 cabnet and a 59 reissue Fender Bassman that has been customized with the type of tubes that came in the original Bassman. My guitars are: 79 original hardtail Strat, 2000 American series Fender Strat with 54 Custom Shop pickups, 76 original Gibson 335, 2000 Gibson 335, 97 Les Paul Standard, and a 99 G&L Asat Classic with Fralin pickups.
The effects on the C/C are VERY COOL, none in my opinion are "weak". I think all are quite strong actually, in duplicating the "original" effects that Hendrix used. The Fuzzfoot is an awesome Fuzzface clone, the Provibe in my opinion, and in several friends "who are huge Hendrix fans" feel is a dead ringer for the Univibe that Hendrix used. The Octave is probably the hardest to "get used to" as it is such a strong effect that you really have to get some advise from Dave Fox on how the best tuning for it is to get the ultimate production from the effect. I think if a person can't get those "Hendrix" or VERY close to those "Hendrix" tones from THIS pedal, you're not tunning the pedal correctly. This is one of the sweetest sounding pedals I have ever heard. All the effects are killer.

Reliability : 10
The pedal is very reliable, it's built in a solid box that can easily stand the everyday abuse of the road. Check out Analogman's web page, He just sold Kenny Wayne Shepherd on the pedal, minutes before he went on stage for a show! That should tell you this is one very cool and reliable pedal.

Customer Support : 10
So far the Customer support has been nothing less than OUTSTANDING!! I recently e-mailed Dave Fox with a question about the Otave effect. He promptly responded with the answer to my question AND some very helpful suggestions on how to make the effect sound even better! Let me just say that his kind of customer service is not every companies definition of the two words... but should be. He will do very well in this industry and hopefully get his product to a lot of the top guitarist in the business because of his willingness to help his customers.

Overall Rating : 10
I play all types of music blues, classic rock, surf, some classic metal. I've been playing seriously for about ten years and music is my passion. I also own a Modulas bass and Eden bass amp, a drumset, and a keyboard.
I made sure to insure all of my equipment because it is very valuable to me personally. If the pedal were lost or stolen, I would replace it in a heartbeat ( after I got finished cursing the jerk who swiped it!). Compared to the other effects I have heard who also are attempting to clone the originals, this is the best so far in my opinion. It has become one of my favorite effects and a must for my pedalboard.

The CC is three pedals in one. They are pre-wired in a certain order, but you can reorder then in any configuration you want. This isn't the way most pedals or racks work (more like early analog synths), so it takes a little time to get familiar with. I purchased the optional vibe expression pedal (extra $95) with mine which adds even more capabilities.

They effects themselves have a fairly straight forward set of controls, but each has a lot of effect on the sound. Additionally, they each color the other when run in combination, and of course order makes a difference. It's simple to take the CC out of the box and get cools sounds right away, but you can spend lots of time figuring out the full range of sounds this thing can make.

Sound Quality : 10
My setup: Wah -> CC (Fuzz, Oct, Vibe order) -> chorus -> volume -> analog delay -> digital delay -> amp (Carr Slant 6V)

The CC has true bypass, so it has no effect on the signal when off, and it's really quite when on even at high gain and effect levels.

The CC does a great job at getting a Hendrix, SRV, or Robin Trower sound, but it's not limited to recreating those artists. It has a wide range of tonal possibilities making it easy to develop your own signature sound.

The sound quality is truly fantastic.

Reliability : No Opinion
Looks to be built like a tank. I haven't had it too long (1 month), but I don't expect any problems.

Customer Support : 10
These pedals are built by Analog Mike (www.analogman.com). He's been very helpful to me in the past. There are few effects out there where you can talk to the person that designed and built the one you own.

Overall Rating : 10
I play blues / funk / jam influenced rock. The CC has been a great addition to my setup. Now that I own one I would not want to ever have to do without it. You can buy each of the CC's effects independently from other manufactures, but they probably won't sound as good and will cost you a good bit more when you're done. I haven't played any other fuzz, univibe, or octavia units that sound better at any price. It's not a cheap effect, but considering what you get it's a really good deal.

This pedal is very easy to get a great sound out of. You can patch the effects in different orders and the controls all have a large impact on the sound, so a lot of tweaking time can be had and I mean this in a great way. it's not the type of tweaking that all of my racks used to take. I used to have so much play time eate up from progamming effects and it was such an un-musical process, not so with this unit!

Sound Quality : 9
Sound quality is wonderful. Very Organic feel thanks to the Analog design of these. There is some hiss on higher gain settings with the octave and fuzz but not bad at all.
The Fuzz is just Amazing as is the Chorus/Vibrato. The Octavia is probably the least used for me. It can be harsh and I find myself using it only for "special effects" type sounds it's not made it's way into my main sound at all.

Reliability : 9
This unit is made very well. Much better quality than most mass production items on the market these days.

Customer Support : 10
Couldn't be better. When I registered my CC Dave contacted me personally just to ask how I liked it.

Overall Rating : 9
I play Old tyle rock (Floyd, Zep) I do mostly original stuff- I have had a LOT of equipment over the years. The last set up included the Lexicon MPX G2 and R1 controller, H&K Access Pre-amp, etc..etc..etc...
Now I have gone back to a simple rig that uses a VOX wha and the Captain Coconut into a TS-9 (808 mod) intp a River M-100 head and Mesa 2X12 Recto cab (Vintage 30's) I use a Strat Plus with the EMG DG20 picups set and a Les Paul Classic with Alnico Pro II pickups. I use a control pedal for the speed of the vibe on the CC (A MUST HAVE!)
and everything is tone heaven. This effect does not kill your guitar tone, rather, it lays on top of it. Very ORGANIC, TRANSPARENT.
If you are looking for good rock tone like a Hendrix Vibe- this is the item for you.

it took me a little bit to get used to it and discover exactly how to patch things together because this pedal is exceptional and is more than just a simple plug it in and step on it effects pedal, there is so much its capable of I am sure that I have yet to discover all of it or even close to all of it. The manufacturer Dave Fox was very helpful in answering all my questions via email.

Put it this way, its easy enough to use that I will be going into the studio with it just about 2 weeks after getting my hands on it, so I am giving it a 10 with a big huge THANKYOU to Foxrox Electronics for Customer Support!

The manual is full of good information but the manual alone was not enough to figure it out. The website explained things very well as to how to patch the effects differently though.

Sound Quality : 10
I'm playing with a Fender Custom Shop Telecaster, a Budda Wah pedal and a Diaz Texas Ranger pedal in addition to the Captain Coconut. This goes through my Blues Jr live and in the studio as well as using many various other amps in the studio as well. I am a professional guitar player and am VERY particular about the equipment I use.

The Captain Coconut has the best fuzz and best Univibe sounds I have ever heard, and the Octave or Octavia sounds are equal to the Octavia pedal that hendrix used....these are high words of praise but truely the Captain Coconut is an extraordinary piece of wizardry and Dave Fox must be a genius!

For one, I never knew that a Fuzz could sound this good, the Fuzz and Provibe together is instant Jimi, just add Wah pedal! There are so many sounds within this thang, with the grit dial on the Fuzz U can dial in so many different types of sounds, and same with the Provibe...plus U can patch the effects up in any order U want

its a shame Stevie Ray Vaughan never got to play through one of these, he woulda bought 10 of them!

Reliability : 10
this thing is built like a tank. I'll be buying a second one just in case this one ever gets stolen or in case someone drops beer down the front of it!!! (You never know WHAT'S gonna happen in bars and clubs these days!)

I never like to use anything on a gig without a backup, thats just the nature of the business

Customer Support : 10
Dave Fox is incredibly gracious kind and friendly in answering my many questions via email. In this day and age it is truely a treat to experience such kindness and (generosity of time) from a business owner

Overall Rating : 10
I've been playing 17 years and as I said I make my living playing guitar. If the captain Coconut was stolen I'd buy another one faster than U can say "supercalifragilistic".

I play blue/rock and jazz fusion...very much influenced in style and tone by Hendrix and SRV as well people like Miles Davis, John Coltrane and Prince.

I love the fuzz and vibe combination, I love how it sounds in combination with the wah. I love how its true bypass and how it in combination with the Diaz Texas Ranger pedal (sustain for days and killer tone) sat my Ibanez TS-9 Tubescreamer (Modded to 808 specs even!) down and relegated it to a backup pedal. I've played every fuzz and Univibe pedal out there is and this one be the best there is (in my humble opinion)

one last thing to add: I'm planning on buying a backup Captain Coconut just as soon as I can afford to, if there hundreds of folks who read these glowing reports and make a mad-rush to buy one, I may have to sit on the waiting list a while...oh well such is life...it is a handbuilt piece of guitar wizardry

just for the record, for overall rating on a scale of 1-10 I'd rate the Captain Coconut an 11!

Very intuitive, the knobs are clearly marked and easy to dial in. The volumes of the individual eefects require special care however, as they are quite interactive with each other and their own gain settings. The manual is very thorough and easy to understand. The unit also features the ability to change the order of the effects by using patch cords between the effects. If desired, the factory effect order can be utilized by one cord in, one cord out. Clean onstage look.

Sound Quality : 9
I am a single coil pickup player. My custom doubleneck contains Vanzant neck, and Duncan Broadcaster bridge pickups, usually through a Jomama Music Keleman Reverb 45 or Fender Vibrolux reverb amp.
The effect is very quiet for a high gain device.
This thing sounds fat and chunky, smooth and hot.
I found the tones to be very usable and musical in a lot of settings.
The obvious connection to the classic Hendrix tones is evident, and the unit excels at achieving many of the famous tones found on Jimi's records. It can also do a lot of other great classic rock and heavy guitar tones as well. I found myself experimenting a lot with this unit live to push our songs into uncharted sonic territory. This thing really does inspire you to play differently and explore.
Other reviewers have mentioned each effect separately. I will skip that, just mentioning that each effect is as good as or better than tones coming from similar products. I have built my own Fuzz Faces and octave unit, own Zvex Fuzz Factory and numerous Fuzz Face reissues, so I am pretty educated and picky in the fuzz department. There are some settings on the Fuzz Foot that can get a little weird sounding, so care must be taken to set the 'grit' knob to 12:00 O'clock for the traditional'good' Fuzz Face[think Eric Johnson]tones. I like the sound of the Fuzz Foot in the CC, and Dave Fox is working with me personally to tune it to my specific taste. How many manufacturers can you think of with that level of customer support?

Reliability : 10
It is built like a BMW, in my opinion, and it would probably survive being run over by one! No backup necessary.

Customer Support : 10
Very helpful and friendly customer support.

Overall Rating : 10
Our band plays original, high power bluesrockfunk, along with enough covers to get by in some of the more narrow minded markets. The Captain Coconut is a great tool for creating many cool, diverse tones.
One of the only things not to like about it is that you might find yourself overindulging your desire to turn all of the effects on too much of the time. The manual even has a warning about this!
I would also dig it more if the box was a little more radical looking, even though the burgundy color is attractive. Other people may like the business-like exterior of the CC.

Overall Rating : 10
I recently purchased the first production, Captain Coconut pedal by
Foxroxelectronics.com from analogman - Mike.
IF you are a fan of Hendrix, if you are a fan of SRV, if you are a fan of
Dave Gilmour, even John Frusciante of the RHCP or Lenny Kravitz... you will
find aural pleasure in owning this piece of work.
The initial idea of having three of my analog favorites: octavia, fuzz and
univibe in one box was
exciting enough but to actually sit/stand and play this joy box was
extremely satisfying.
I have owned several types of the 3 effects included in this pedal, as well
have played extensively through many others only to find The Capt. coconut
the finest example of all of them.
I put this baby's Provibe section up against, a Fulltone Dejavibe, P.E. Vibe
Unit, Voodoo Labs Microvibe, Roger Mayer voodoovibe, and to mention also the
dunlop univibe and rotovibe.

The Capt. Coconut Provibe for one is already in the hands of pro musicians
like Joe Perry of Aerosmith and Lenny Kravitz for good reason, the vintage
mojo of this pedal delivers what I would call a "swiss army knife" vibe. It
has a shape knob on it that appears to be a modeler of all the different
shades of what others have molded their ideal vibe to be. (width and shape
are very interactive)
Simple to say that you are not stuck w/ a one trick pony even on the vibe
standing alone next to its other two effects; the Fuzzfoot and Octave.
I can say I have appreciated some aspect of every other designers univibe
clone, but that in itself was the problem as they were somewhat
uni-dimensional. (doesnt make em bad, just limited)
Not the case with the Provibe section of the Capt coconut (btw. the in/out
jacks of the pedal allows u to patch in each effect in any order you want,
and comes with a jack to plug in a remote c.c.pedal to treadle speed
control).
For my ears and playing style..I want a vibe to emulate a watery rotating
speaker sound with lowend "wump", but at the same time allow me to hit the
speed knob down to slow and get that fat chewy phasey "schuuwow" sound. I
can do this w/ the Coconut.
Plus the chorus mode in its slowest setting with the width dialed back and
tubescreamer into the front gives a cool mellow swoosh for some 70's phaser
tone. I also found the
vibrato mode of the Provibe to be very usable, not just an add on feature
and not the usual sea sick wobble (which is available to a degree, if thats
your bag) I cant dial out of other pedals.. This vintage pitch modulation at
its warm finest.
In my head and to my ears the woodstock sounds of Jimi Hendrix can be almost
perfectly replicated with the Capt coconut pedal. The Fuzzfoot section of
the pedal also has an additional tone shaper called "grit" and is very
interactive with the gain and volume knob. I can get a nice fat stoner-rock
fuzz tone ala "Fu Manchu" with this and then move back on the grit knob for
perfect hendrix solo-ing, even on to some siamese dream era pumpkins.
Using both the Provibe and the Fuzzfoot at lower gain setting with the
addition of
a delay gets you into Floyd territory easy.
While I'm probably most impressed fuzz wise with Fulltone's "70s" fuzz and
69' fuzz, I want to be able to have both of those baby's in one pedal with
some additional gain smoothing qualities and this does that for me as well.
The octavia section of the capt. coconut to my ears is a cross section of
the RM Octavia and the Fulltone Octafuzz. Here again while I like both of
the other ovtavia pedals, the Capt. coconut delivers all the reso-clank
upper octave tones I like in spades. Diming the gain of this octavia into
the Fuzzfoot (dimed as well) gives you some cool volume swells that work
kinda nifty with a delay pedal.
You just can't beat the quality, versatility, and focused vintage sounds in
one box at $400. While this chunk of dough is tough to dole out, I figure I
save almost $300 w/ the Captn.

If you have owned a fuzz face clone, a univibe clone, and an octavia clone you'll now just how to use this. All others read the manual. This doenst mean its not user friendly but you have to understand how each effect works and interrelates to the other.

I recently purchased the first production, Captain Coconut pedal by Foxroxelectronics.com from analogman - Mike.
IF you are a fan of Hendrix, if you are a fan of SRV, if you are a fan of Dave Gilmour, even John Frusciante of the RHCP or Lenny Kravitz... you will find aural pleasure in owning this piece of work.
The initial idea of having three of my analog favorites: octavia, fuzz and univibe in one box was
exciting enough but to actually sit/stand and play this joy box was extremely satisfying.
I have owned several types of the 3 effects included in this pedal, as well have played extensively through many others only to find The Capt. coconut the finest example of all of them.
I put this baby's Provibe section up against, a Fulltone Dejavibe, P.E. Vibe Unit, Voodoo Labs Microvibe, Roger Mayer voodoovibe, and to mention also the dunlop univibe and rotovibe.

The Capt. Coconut Provibe for one is already in the hands of pro musicians like Joe Perry of Aerosmith and Lenny Kravitz for good reason, the vintage mojo of this pedal delivers what I would call a "swiss army knife" vibe. It has a shape knob on it that appears to be a modeler of all the different shades of what others have molded their ideal vibe to be. (width and shape are very interactive)
Simple to say that you are not stuck w/ a one trick pony even on the vibe standing alone next to its other two effects; the Fuzzfoot and Octave.
I can say I have appreciated some aspect of every other designers univibe clone, but that in itself was the problem as they were somewhat uni-dimensional. (doesnt make em bad, just limited)
Not the case with the Provibe section of the Capt coconut (btw. the in/out jacks of the pedal allows u to patch in each effect in any order you want, and comes with a jack to plug in a remote c.c.pedal to treadle speed control).
For my ears and playing style..I want a vibe to emulate a watery rotating speaker sound with lowend "wump", but at the same time allow me to hit the speed knob down to slow and get that fat chewy phasey "schuuwow" sound. I can do this w/ the Coconut.
Plus the chorus mode in its slowest setting with the width dialed back and tubescreamer into the front gives a cool mellow swoosh for some 70's phaser tone. I also found the
vibrato mode of the Provibe to be very usable, not just an add on feature and not the usual sea sick wobble (which is available to a degree, if thats your bag) I cant dial out of other pedals.. This vintage pitch modulation at its warm finest.
In my head and to my ears the woodstock sounds of Jimi Hendrix can be almost perfectly replicated with the Capt coconut pedal. The Fuzzfoot section of the pedal also has an additional tone shaper called "grit" and is very interactive with the gain and volume knob. I can get a nice fat stoner-rock fuzz tone ala "Fu Manchu" with this and then move back on the grit knob for perfect hendrix solo-ing, even on to some siamese dream era pumpkins.

It took a little while to get used to all the controls.
With Octavia Fuzzfacec and Uni-vibe effects,
there is quite a bit of experimentation to be done.
After individually tweaking each effect, I was able
to get the sounds that I love. The manual looks great
if you can get past the small text. There's a lot of info crammed into it.

Sound Quality : 10
I play an American Standard strat into a reissue Vox wah pedal. That goes into the Captain coconut, an old analog delay and then my JCM-800 amp. I cranked it up and the sound is awesome. It definitely comes alive at high volume levels.
Provibe. It nails the Uni-vibe sound. I've owned two original Univibes and a Deja-vibe. This thing has the same sound plus a Center knob that helps to fine tune the sound.
Octave. I have an original Tycobrahe octavia and Captain Coconut nails it. It doesn't seem as shrill as other octavia clones I've heard.
Fuzzfoot. WOW - I immediately fell in love with this fuzz. I've been using an old grey hamertone Fuzzface for about ten years. It always bugged me how it would sound crappy from time to time. To my ears, this fuzz sounds as good if not better than any other "vintage" fuzz I've played.
Great feedback, great tone, now I can use my wah wah pedal going into the Fuzz because Fuzzfoot doesn't hurt the tone. The grit knob is something new to me and I really like it. I can get the sounds that I get when my Fuzzface battery is running low.
I was surprised at how quiet the whole box is, even with everything on!

Reliability : 10
It's built into a dye-cast aluminum box. Kind of like a big bud box. That's my favorite type of box.
I opened it up to take a look and the internal workmanship is excellent. The circuit board looks very well laid out and the wiring is neat. It looks and feels very road worthy. I like the washers on the footswitches. I could tell that no corners were cut.

Customer Support : No Opinion
I saw this box advertised at analogman.com. I was in a hurry to get one so I contacted the manufacturer, Foxrox Electronics (www.foxroxelectronics.com) and was able to get a prototype for evaluation. Since then I ended up buying it. Dave Fox at Foxrox Electronics is knowledgeable and helpful. I got to know him through email. I've put in first dibs on prototypes of new things he's working on.

Overall Rating : 10
I've always wanted a pedal that does what this one does.
I play in a cover band, Ordinary Men (www.angelfire.com\biz\ordmen). We do a mixture of guitar oriented classic rock stuff with some Hendrix and SRV thrown in. Captain Coconut is perfect for me. I have it velcroed to a board along with my wah wah pedal and a volume pedal. After that I go to an old EH Memory man, then to the amp. That's my current effects set up.
