Hmm... Its a fuzz. Thiers 3 knobs. An in and an out jack. An on and off stomp switch. I guess its pretty simple unless youve never used a fuzz before.
I reviewed the entire CCII pedal in the CCII page. Even though I use the other 2 effects much more, I wanted to review the Fuzzfoot seperately. I do use the fuzz the least since I play mostly with LP style humbucking guitars but I do use the fuzz and I very much like it. I have the stock Hybrid PNP. Im not a fuzz expert but i have messed with many fuzzes. This fuzz is without a doubt in that class of effects were thier is no better. Only different and equally great. At least in my experience.

The thing I like about this pedal is that its controls are usuable everywhere. I cant say that for other fuzzes that are in the same class. When I get a combination of guitar-fuzz-amp that I like I can mess with the controls and the tone does change but its all still relevant. To me every combination of the 3 knobs can yeild very desireable, useable results. I dont have to search for a "good" spot on a knob. Just something that best suits the part but every position of the knobs sound good. Just different.
This is especially true of the Grit knob. I kind of use it to almost tame the fuzz when its very distorted. All the way back its very smooth and as sustaining as a fuzz can get but as you roll it clockwise it starts to "clean up" the fuzz a bit. Its just as distorted but it cuts the sustain in such a way that it seems cleaner when you play. The notes are a little more defined and not blended together and over-distorted. All the way clockwise gives you your classic, farty, sputtery, out-of-batteries fuzz sound but that sound is very usefull. Especially when you dial that sound into an overdriven amp, like, say, a tweed fender, turn the grit all the way up and grab your slide and you have the "You Shook Me" sound about as close as you can ask for.
Thiers many useable settings on the knobs if your going for the whole EJ tone. I dont find his tone as alusive as some people. I find it very simple. Great guitar. Great fuzz. Great amp. Great cab. Nice analog delay. That does sound alusive but if you have good gear his tone should be easy with a really good fuzz or a Tube Driver. Maybe not his EXACT tone but he has used different gear himself and always sounds the same. Just as SRV did and many others whose tones have been revered. Get yourself a good analog delay like an EH Memory Man or a Boss DM-2 and really delay the sound of the Fuzzfoot into a plexi or JTM45 or even an AC30. Or for that matter just put the fuzz into a TS-9 or good overdrive pedal and youll get that vibe if your technique is up to it. Really that sound he gets isnt easy to play. You have to have some technique because it doesnt suffer mistakes. Anyone whos messed around with that sound knows what I mean. Its not like a super-saturated modern lead tone were you can get away with slopy picking. Every little nuance of your pick atack is captured and if you dont pick clean and even youll know it.
I really like this fuzz. I cant comment on getting the Hendrix sound because I use my strat very little and I think thats a necessaty. Im sure it seems wierd I own this effect when Im not into the Jimi thing. I am in a way but Im not going for his exact sound. When I use the strat-CCII-plexi setup I think the vibe of the hendrix sound can definitly be found.
I think I found the great humbucking tones with the Fuzzfoot so easily because (surprise) I use humbucking guitars mostly. This fuzz wont give you a Rangemaster though. And it wont give you a ToneBender. It may get in the ballpark for some things but if you really care about those Fuzz/drive effects I think youll have to get an effect aimed more for that. It does capture everything in the general fuzz catagory accept the extreme sounds from other types of fuzzes. I think its one of the greats. Not that Ive played that many but Ive tried some of the most hyped ones.
And it does clean up very nicely with your volume knob. Or vlume pedal in my case.

This is one of my favorite pieces of gear. I havent had the chance to work it into the studio or my iive rig yet but Im really hoping to change that. Right now Im trying to keep it simple and bare live. Im already forced to use more pedals then I want to live because of one or two songs. When that changes the CCII will move in.
For value Ill average each of the 3 effects in the CCII to cost $133 a piece. Thats not bad at all.

As a fuzzmaniac I owned and sold the whole gamut of vintage and contemporary fuzzes like Jensen, Schaller, Bosstone, Fuzzface, Supra Fuzz, Fulltone '69 and '70, Suprafuzz, Z.VEX and so on. By incident I became owner of a Captain Coconut unit build by Foxrox, which contains an amazing fuzz named FuzzFoot, and delivers so far the best fuzz sound, I ever noticed.
On my request Dave Fox build me the prototyp of a hybrid fuzz, which uses one germanium and one silicon transistor. There are three knobs, Volume, Grit and Fuzz and thus its very easy to handle. Youz could use either a 9 V battery or plug it into an 230 V/9 V adapter.

Due to the use of two different transistors types the Hybrid represents the best of two worlds. Its not as mellow and temperature sensitive like a fuzz with germanium transistors and not as harsh and high gain like one with silicon transistors. It really shines with a single coil guitar like a Strat or a Tele. By rolling down the guitar volume you can easily get those Hendrix sounds we all know from the life recordings, for example Little Wing, and when you set your guitar on full volume the tone becomes thick with a long sustain (I'm using a vintage 50 W Marshall MK 2 with an old Bandmaster box which had been equipped with two vintage 12" Celestion greenbacks G12H). By using my Mesa Rectifier I had not been able to come close to that sound. The Fuzz intensity can very from little to very strong, and the Grit knob makes it possible to approach a tonal range from Booster-like (7 o'clock position) over Distortion-like (12 o'clock position) to the real Fuzz sound which makes you guessing, you're speakers had been blown recently. Thus it's a realy versatile pedal.

Dave Fox is a real highlight. After I asked him, how long it would need until the regular production of his units would start, he instandly made me the offer to build a pre-procution prototype for me.
20 days after his offer I got the pedal. I recommend to check www.foxroxelectronics.com for his products.

I play since 1968 and my style covers Hendrix, Ozzy, Led Zep, Deep Purple, Kravitz, Gary Moore as well as numerous own songs. I own guitars from PRS, Gibson, Fender, Music Man and Riemer (German luthiers), my amps are Marshalls (vintage MK2 and JCM 900), Teisco and Mesa Rectifier. Beside the FuzzFoot I use an 80years TS 9 as well as a VOX Wah,a DigiTech Flanger and an old Ibanez chorus pedal.
If this little box would be stolen it had been to replaced immediatly.Compared to the pricing of other fuzzboxes build in the US it represents a fantastic value.

I just got this wonderful pedal today. Very easy to use(its a fuzz box for crying out loud!) But it is the best fuzz i have ever used period! It is like an old fuzz face circuit but with a few extra features. No manual supplied, none needed. Great stompbox!

I play 2 strats and a TSL 100 marshall. Sound quality on this could only be stated as "WOW!" My strats can get that thick sounding gibson sound without the pain of buying a gibson or the feel of gibsons( they are heavy and lenky!) Alot of fuzzes claim they can clean up when you roll the knobs back (effects knobs or guitar volume) but almost all dont really deliver, except this one! When really fuzzy your in hendrix country, when you roll it back or adjust the knobs sounds like a clean boost/mild overdrive great for solos. This thing can really give my marshall some teeth and sounds incredibly thick! But can (and does) give a vey mild distortion if desired. The one thing that sets the fuzzfoot aside from a fuzz face or another fuzz box is the "grit knob." it changes the sound to really whacked out "battery goin dead" sound to really mild and cleaned up. Awesome! The Everman fuzz however is more tweakable to taste with the DIP switches, but for $120 less you get the same sounds and workmanship and you dont have to bother with internal DIP switches like you do with an Everman(so i highly recommend this one over the Everman)...This box is "just set it and forget it." Unlike 95% of other fuzzes this is True Bypass as well as being very quiet in background noise. When you turn it up thought you get some feedback and "hair," but what fuzz doesnt maxed out? The fuzzfoot also has "the fuzzcard" so you can change circuits with different transistors to suit your taste. PNP hybrid has one silicon and one germanium transistor so it as vintage sound but isnt temperature sensative like 2 germanium transistor fuzzes or high gain like 2 silicon transistor fuzzes. but mine is the best of both worlds and is awesome. This is not leaving my pedal board at all! Its a handmade, high quality box made to order, with features that guitar players want, and it has an incredible sound to boot!

He built mine in an optional black hammond box, not a fuzzface casting. Built as tough as a Brick Sh*thouse with all high quality american made parts and neat soldering and glueing throughout(the hammond box is from canada so we will let it slide)!!! but it sounds incredible! I could jump on this thing for years and it wont break. If something does go wrong dave will fix it.

I honestly wish i could rate this category higher than 10. Dave Fox is second to none in customer support period. People talk about how some companys have great customer service...it may be true...but dave is "Mr Customer Service." Not only did he talk me through the process and options of building a "one of a kind" custom fuzz, but he also answered all my emails promptly and gave me a few hints on getting the most out of the fuzzfoot he himself built for me! How cool is that! He is the best there is! He makes sure your happy with it and if you arent he will work with you to ensure you will be happy with it. Anyone looking for a great fuzz should seriously consider getting one of his fuzzfoots or captain coconut 3 in 1 boxes! Thanks Dave!

This fuzz is simply in a league of its own. The tones can take you from thick hendrix to driving SRV, Clapton to a Santana type sound with everything in between and beyond! This fuzz was built by a "fuzz genius" and is simply the best you can get. if you read other reviewers talk about the fuzz in the captain coconut and how great it sounds, well this is the same one in there, but in a stompbox size. Its totally customizable with the fuzzcard so if you dont like it swap out the fuzz card for one that you will like(i think they run $40?),and for the money(yeah its a little more for this than many other fuzzes but you get what you pay for)the attention to detail, and the one-on-one support that dave fox provides, you simply cant go wrong! Check it out! FOXROX ROCKS!
