This is a very straightforward piece of equipment. It has two knobs and two small switches, all with pretty obvious functions, and you know pretty much what it's capable of after a couple of minutes of using it.

The quality of the sound is very good, but I think it's kind of dry. I prefer to filter it with whatever I can. A bit of reverb or distortion usually does the trick.

A very sturdy little thing, it feels as solid as it looks. I use it on a gig no problem.

I dealt with them for another machine of theirs, and they appear friendly and forthcoming enough.

My style is mostly experimental/electronic, if I have to name it something. The unit fits in well in sombunall compositions. I wouldn't have minded a couple of on-board filters, but then again using seperate ones has its advantages (more flexibility for one). If it were stolen or lost I might get another one, but don't quote me on that.

The Frostwave spaceBEAM is pretty simple to use, plug and play basically. It's got a real nice amiga / commodore 64 analog sound that can be really unique when used along side other modeling effects like delay, ring modulators, tremolo, flanger, distortion. The manual is one page and it doesn't really tell you much, nor does it have to. It's a pretty self explanatory unit. The volume control on here is pretty close to nil... you either have to control it with your mixer knob or get a volume pedal which works very nicely. The actually pitch controlling of this thing is kinda awkward. I wish the sensors were at an adjustable angle or something so you can better judge the position of the different pitches, plus your arm gets really tired when hanging over the theramin for a minute or two. The pitch change is not real subtle and i haven't found much use yet with the CV out and i don't know what the GATE does. I thought you would be able to run something through the frostwave or something... i dunno.

The unit is very quiet, we're running it through a kaoss pad and into a behringer mixer. the mixer makes more noise than it does. We run it through distortion, delay, and whatefver else effect we have at the time. We use it to make ambient noise sometimes just holding a note on the theramin and switching back and forth between the two different range settings and manipulating that with some kind of effect. It doesn't sound like a REAL theramin, it sounds nothing close to a violin and it doesn't perform anywhere close to a real theramin... the only real similarity is that it does require any physical touch and it self osscilates.

It's built like a tank and we use it at every show.. we make experimental electronic music, and we use it for ambient and harsh noise tracks. It's got a very unique sound and people like to look at it and ask questions.

They are pretty helpful and friendly and ship very fast and it's pretty cheap i guess. I'm sure it would cost more if it were found in catalogs. I haven't had to call them for support yet but everyone seems to have good experiences with them when they do.

We play experimental electronic music, we use a EMU-ESI 4000 sampler, lots of boss pedals, a johnson delay pedal, electrix filter factory, filter queen and mo-fx, a kaoss pad, behringer mixer, korg er-1 drum machine for step sequencing live, and a alesis mmt-8 sequencer for midi settings on the electrix gear. it's use can be limiting but for what we do we can find something to use it for at some point in every song. i wish it had more flexibility in range and a better built in volume control. I wish it sounded more like a real theramin too.
