This category is redundant. It's a wah pedal!

Sound Quality : 3
For all of you who give this joker a 9 or 10, please get in touch with me. I'd like some of what you're smoking. I went to buy a Budda wah, but they were out of stock. I paid $239 + tax for this pedal, and walk out thinking I had best wah ever... Boy was I wrong! I hated it everything about it from the moment I plugged it in, the one, the pedal's throw, the noise, everything. The first thing I did was adjust the trim pot inside. It made it slightly better. I figured it had to be me. After all Fulltone is the hot boutique pedal of the moment right? To test my theory I put and on Craigslist for a straight trade, Fulltone Clyde for Budda Bud wah. I was willing to lose nearly $70 in the trade. The guy brings over his Budda, we plug them in side by side. I immediately liked everything about the Budda better, it's tone, throw, size etc... Guess what after hearing the Fulltone, the guy packed up his Budda and said "no thnx bro, have a nice day." I wound up selling the Fulltone (only got $125)and bought another type of wah all together, but that's my little secret. Clyde Sucks!

Reliability : 3
It's tone is reliably bad. So is the noise it makes!

N/A. I didn't to be the guy that told Mickey that his pedal is a bust!

Overall Rating : 1
Not worth $239 at all. I felt fortunate to unload it for $125 to some schmuck. I paid $99 for my new wah pedal and it absolutely blows the Fulltone out of the water.

Typical wah pedal as far as setup. Not much different than any thing else out there with the exception of the adjustable pot inside of the case. I haven't adjusted it but from what I understand it will allow some tone customization.

Sound Quality : 9
guitar: Charvel San Dimas Model 1-2H
amp: Mesa Boogie Express 5:25

Sweet tone - very consistent across the sweep of the pedal. I like the extra travel with this pedal too. It reminds me of a 60s era Vox with a touch more mojo. The true-bypass is a major plus.

Reliability : No Opinion
As far as I can tell - very sturdy. I have no problem using it without a backup.

Never used it - can't say...

I own wah pedals made by Vox, Dunlop and Morley. This pedal has the best tone and feel out of all of them. Looks like it's time to post some equipment on Craig's List.

Its a wah, unless you get the ones with the extra fiddle knobs, its a freakin wah. Press with foot and rock back and forth...

Internal trim blah, blah, blah... too busy to care!

Sound Quality : 9
Sounds great. Very cool with the strat. I heard "clean only" but now that I have it, it sounds great dirty. It definitely leans towards truth and away from mojo IMHO. Which is great considering clean it sounds amazing! The travel is longer than usual and I LOVE THAT. Ive played wah for years but stopped cause I just started to hate the crap build quality of the stock crybaby and it destroyed my love of the funky foot filter! Now Im back and it feels good.

THE MAIN REASON I bought the Clyde was the pedal itself. It feels great. The travel, shape, flex, everything works WAY better than what Ive used prior. It sounded great but felt PERFECT and you need to PLAY a wah not stomp it!

Reliability : No Opinion
Don't know. Hear both ways about Fulltone and that he's mean and EVIL... Well, if he's evil Im down with the dark side! Its built very well but I have not hammered on it long enough to make a true judgement!

Customer Support : No Opinion
Im afraid to contact them. They may make me feel unloved and refuse to hug me... Seems to me a lot of people spend what they THINK is a lot of money and want HUGE amounts of attention... Its a wah pedal, not a Ferrari...

Overall Rating : 9
Its expensive for a wah but built 10 times better than most so... I needed it for some shows with 70s funk tunes and its perfect. More importantly to me, it plays INCREDIBLE. I do a lot of song repro professionally and this was what I picked for that job (as far as wah wah goes). Now for the Mutron III and Im good to go!

I finally have another wah and its not pissing me off! For me, thats as good as it gets!

Ease of Use : 10
Extremely easy to use. Not manual required, it's just a wah-wah pedal. Nice large foot pedal easy to rock back and forth. Good footprint to support, and has rubber feet so it doesn't slip.

Sound Quality : 10
Excellent sound quality. The best wah sweep I've heard. Have not tried the teese but the wah sound is crazy good. Sounds excellent with other effects and can give a nice thick wah that could cut through overdrive. No additional mods needed, sounds amazing as is, works well with a 1-slot adapter. Can pick up radio waves, but is the same for other wah-wah pedals. No hassle with extra knobs, there's a small trim pot inside that can regulate the tone. Excellent nirvana of wah-wah-ness.

Reliability : 9
Even though it looks like a toy, it's a solid box. The pivot screw is rugged. If this thing breaks it can be fixed easily by a visit to the hardware store. The pot however lasts about 1-year or so, but can be easily replaced by fulltone parts. I have replaced it once, so buyers beware. But once fixed it has such an awesome tone that it's well worth it.

Customer Support : 5
Don't count much on it. I've emailed Mike a few times (on other products) and does not respond well by email. Although this pedal is amazingly good, the support is lacking. On all the emails sent half were responded. I can understand why people are fustrated and cannot stand the man. But his products are really good.

Overall Rating : 9
Excellent product. If this pedal was stolen, I would definetly miss it. If you can find one used, and have some money to put into a wah-wah definetly look into it.

This baby is sweet. Ummm, it's a wah, step on button, step off button. At any rate, you can adjust the sensitivity of the on switch if you like.

Sound Quality : 10
Can you get the sound of your favorite artists? Who are they? Sure, Hendrix, SRV, Steve Vai, John Petruccia, Scott Henderson.
Are certain effects (distortion, chorus, ...) very good? Very bad? NO. Put in chain right after my tuner, it is fantastic. The only pedal that disagrees with it is a Fullton '69, essentially a fuzzface, and fuzzfaces don't agree with anything anyway!
What setup (i.e. what guitars and amps) are you using this with? I have an '89 Clapton strat with the gold fender lace pickups, TBX controls, and midboost, Ibanez Joe Satriani JS-1000, and I'm currently building another strat that will either have Texas Specials or Fralin Woodstock '69 pickups in it.
Is it noisy? On what settings? Not noisy, good unit.
Are the effects weak or do they always sound great? I was tired of the small frequency sweep I was getting with the crybaby and I heard about Mike Fuller's effects. The second I tried it in the store I was hooked. For the really saucey player, you can open this baby up and manually adjust for MORE or LESS sweep too, nice feature. Hendrix would have played this wah and none other if he were around, it's just too good.
What amp are you using it with? Mesa Boogie Mark IV with Mesa (celestion speakers) 4X12 3/4 open back speaker cab

Reliability : 10
It's built like a tank, super reliable, always sounds great, always works spot on.

Customer Support : 10
I've seen some n/a's on this, but I can definitely tell you from my experience that Fulltone's customer service is by far the best I've ever had from a music gear-related company, hand's down. One time I wrote an email to the company because I had lost one of the little rubber footpads that are on the bottom of all of these units. I was really just testing the waters, but these guys wrote back RIGHT AWAY. A tech named Tsuguto wrote back and said they'd be happy to send this out for FREE. Now yes, it's a small piece of rubber with a screw, but he offered. And then, after a few days, he wrote back just to confirm that I'd actually gotten it. You just don't find customer service like this in the big companies and often not in the little one's either. Fuller has got some great employees, DON'T HESITATE TO CALL/EMAIL!!!

Overall Rating : 9
What style of music do you play? Is this a good match? Blues, rock, it's a fantastic match

How long have you been playing? What other gear do you own? I've been playing about 13 years now

If it were stolen or lost, would you buy it again or get something else? If stolen I would cry, then I'd go out and buy a new one, even if I were broke.

What do you love about it? What do you hate? What is your favorite feature? Perfect frequency sweepability is the key.
Did you compare it to other products? Which ones? Why did you choose this one? Way better than any Vox or Crybaby that I've ever played.

Anything you wish it had? Maybe a built-in cash machine...

Does it help you make music, or does it get in the way? Helps

Anything else you'd like to share? Well, in terms of value, I'm a poor med student and these effects get up into the $150-$400 price range. But hell, so do some assembly line products that aren't as good and Fuller's, and his are boutique, hand-made effects. I'm just poor and wish I had more money to buy more!

Very easy to use. Just like any other wah with the exception that it features an internal tone adjustment control. I believe that there are actually several different versions of the interal controls but they all do the same thing. Mine has a single turnable dial that you can use to select the best bass/treble mix based on your rig. It also effects the amount of drive to some degree. I was able to figure it out w/o the manual... it's very easy. I'd give it a 10 if the tones were adjustable from the exterior, but that's what the clyde deluxe is for right?

Sound Quality : 10
I have never given a 10 before, but this one deserves it. I have had a Dunlop, Vox reissue, and finally a Budda before owning this one. I have to say, in retrospect, the Dunlop was crap. The Vox had some good tones, but was very noisy in the signal chain. The Budda was basically a Vox w/the true bypass feature. The Budda was a good wah, but the Fulltone redefines what makes a wha pedal great. I found the Fulltone to be much more transparent than the Budda when engaged, meaning it was not changing my fundamental tone. In addition, it has a slightly larger sweep than the budda, but it felt more natural to play after a little adjustment. In side by side comparisons, I also noticed that the Budda wasn't truely true-bypass as it darkened my overall tone whether engaged or not. I realize I should qualify my opinions with some details about my rig. My rig includes an Ernie Ball Axis into a Shure UT4 Wireless. My pedals include(not in order): Fulltone: Fulldrive2, Ulitmate Octave, Clyde Wah, Choral Flange, SupaTrem. MXR: Phase 90, EQ, MicroAmp. Boss: TU15 Tuner, FV-500 Volume, DD5 Delay. All of these effects feed into an Orange Rockerverb 100 w/matching 4x12 straight cab (some in the FX loop, some not). All in all, I can't say enough about this pedal... it has made my whole rig sound better! Don't forget to tweak the internal trimmer to find your favorite sounds!

Reliability : 9
As opposed to all of the other wha pedals I've owned, this one is built like a tank. I would definately use it without a backup. If you get to look inside one, take a peak... all of the interior wiring is extremely neat and secure which directly translates into lasting reliability. I'm only going to give it a 9 because I haven't owned it very long. But I've never had a problem with any of my Fulltone pedals, and I've owned most of them for several years.

Customer Support : 9
I've spoken with Mike Fuller via email, and he was very informative and helpful. I have also contacted them about some noise I had on my Fulldrive at one point and they offered some trouble shooting tips which resolved my issue without needing a repair. (turned out to be a bad battery).

Overall Rating : 9
I currently play alternative/modern/classic rock, but I grew up playing more southern rock & funk. The internal adjustment control in this pedal make me able to shape my wah tone as my musical tastes change. If it were stolen or lost, I would buy one in a heartbeat, and I wouldn't consider anything else. All in all, buy this pedal... you won't be disappointed. On that note, anybody interested in buying this pedal, should consider insuring their gear.

Very easy to use. It'a wah pedal. If I had to compare the Clyde to my Crybaby (purchased in the late 1980's), I'd say it is slightly more responsive to my efforts to turn on or off.

Sound Quality : 9
Fender Strat (American) and Gibson SG ('62 RI) to the Clyde to an overdrive pedal to a '65 (RI) Twin Reverb. That's it.

It's a great sounding wah. One of the best features, which sets it apart from my Crybaby, is the true bypass. My CryBaby used to drive me nuts the way it colored my sound when I wasn't using it. The additional sweep of the pedal (and pot) on the Clyde is nice (definitely gives added range to the wah effect), but, sometimes is too much requiring a little more control by the user than the sweep of other wahs. I also like the sound/range of the Clyde better than my CryBaby, but, I have no intention of selling my CryBaby yet; although it's no longer on my board.

The ability to adjust the sound of the Clyde is a nice feature as well (though not easy to access). It definitely gives you many wahs in one. Additionally, it allows you to find the sound you want. I did not like the factory set position. I fiddled around with it for 20-30 minutes and haven't touched it since. But, I'm not the kind of person to spend days on something like that.

Reliability : 9
I've only had it a few months, so I feel it is premature to say. But, it's built solid from what I can tell.

Overall I'm pretty psyched about the Clyde. I am no longer pedal shopping at this time. I've had my Crybaby since the late '80s (replaced the pot once in that time) and will probably never replace my Clyde, besides with another one.

I would recommend this pedal to anyone who is serious about wah. However, if you are a beginner to intermediate player or someone w/ pro chops that is only interested in having a wah for a few songs I'd go w/ a cheaper model. A wahs a wah. It's really in ones skill and ability. But, when you're ready for a superior wah pedal, the Clyde would be a great choice.

Straight forward. Plug in both sides...press down to turn on...simple as that

Amazing! Modeled after the Clyde wah that VOX did, but i think its better than the reissues that are out now. The volume doesnt change when you use it and the wah is fantastic! The deluxe model is great, but for myself this wah really got the job done. Best wah ever hands down.

Reliability : 10
Built like a tank. Battery will not run down if you unplug both ends. You must have a FULLTONE ADAPTOR to plug into the wah or else it will fry. Never need a backup or anything with this wah.

Customer Support : 10
One of the rubber feet broke off and i lost my screw so i couldnt replace it. Contacted fulltone via email, within a week they had sent me new feet. Super friendly and super helpful.

Overall Rating : 10
The only downside is that its $213. Some say thats insane for a wah because you can get a crybaby for only $80. Regardless, it was worth every single pennie that i spent. I am completely satisfied with everything about this wah pedal.

I have had a Vox V847 for 5 years and wanted more throw to the sweep. The Fulltone does just that. I like the Vox for a Samba Pa Ti type of vocal tone but when it comes to general overall usage - like playing lead and blues riffs the Vox can only do so much. The Fulltone's range allows you to give your leads a liquid quality and there is a trim pot under the pedal that allows you to add bass or more gain. The mark that the guys at Fulltone put on the trim is just about perfect. The true bypass is a must and the 9v adaptor allows me to always have it in line ready to go. The Vox only uses a battery....

Reliability : 10
I have had it for 6 months, use it daily and no problems. In fact I leave the bottom off the unit so I can adjust the trim whenever I want without having to take the bottom off all the time. (Note to Fulltone - how about a little hole made in the bottom plate so a small screwdriver can be used to adjust the trim w/o taking the bottom off?) But now that I have found my sweet spot on the pedal I will replace the bottom plate.

Customer Support : No Opinion
I have not needed to contact them. To me that means they are doing their job.

Overall Rating : 10
Great Wah pedal. Yes I am keeping my Vox because I like it also - however if I could only have one pedal it would be the Fulltone because with my Sparkle Drive running behind the Fulltone I can get every and any type of liquid / vocal / distorted wah sound I could want. The Sparkle Drive also makes the Vox sound much much better.

Sounds nice, but it doesn't sound like a Clyde!

I was so dissappointed to try this pedal only to find out it sounds like any other wha on the market. In all honesty, I say the Digitech Jimi Hendrix Experience pedal sounds much more like a Clyde wha. I even like the wha on my Boss ME-50 better than this. I certainly like my old Chigago made Thomas Organ wha's better.

Real quiet, but just doesn't have the vowelly sound an old Clyde has. It especially doesn't have the volume at the lower range a Clyde has. Why all these wha's sound like foot operated tone pots instead of like wha pedals is a mystery to me.

I real Clyde almost sounds like a Heil Talk Box. Think about that!!!

I've been playing guitar since 1969. I remember the first time the radio station played Purple Haze on my daddy's car radio. I love Hendrix and am very thankful for Digitech to create the Jimi Hendrix Experience pedal. It's not perfect but it is great.

As far as the Fulltone "Clyde" goes.....It's a nice wha at a nice price but NEVER should it have been named a Clyde. I heard a real old Clyde {with the Clyde picture on the bottom} and it was awesome! Alot like a talk box and the lower register was a loud Ooooh sound and not just a dark tone pot tone.

Oh, a used a reissue 1965 Fender Strat for the test and an old Marshall 2x12 combo amp set as clean as possible.

Right now, my best suggestion for obtaining a Clyde sound without buying an old Clyde is the Digitech Jimi Hendrix Experience pedal and for the sound, price and features the Digitech SMOKES the Fulltone!

I have to be honest, when I first bought this pedal I expected it to have a long vocal sweep ala Hendrix/Vaughan. Right out of the box, the pedal sound very nasal-ly with very little wah. I had the pedal for several weeks before I went on the Fulltone website and read the specs of the wah. When I got to the part about the "Resonance Control" knob, I was relieved that Fulltone added a control for the bass and gain on the pedal. When I fiddled with the internal (that's right open her up) control and lowered the knob, it was like having a whole new pedal. I put it back in my rig and it has never left.

Sound Quality : 10
When you use the internal control you can a great sound, whatever your preference. On my rig it sounds awesome.

I'm using the fulltone wah===>Barber LTD===>TS808 Reissue===>MXR 10 Band EQ===>Fender Bassman 50.

I can get a Kenny Wayne Shepherd/Walter Trout/Clapton/Vaughan/Hendrix Tone.

This is essentially a follow-up to the review I submitted in April '04, or to be more precise, a response to a few of the subsequent reviewers who have commented on my critique.

Sound Quality : No Opinion
Let me clear up a "misunderstanding" here: I know where to put a wah in the effects chain, thank you very much! It comes directly after the guitar! While I am sure the folks who mentioned this as the probable culprit were well intentioned (or worked for Herr Fuller (sounds like a baldness elixir), for all you conspiracy theorists out there--just kidding!!), it assumes user error, where in this case, there was none. To completely dispel this notion, let me add that I have also tried it without any other effects. I have had dozens of wahs in my career. I KNOW WHERE TO PUT IT(heh heh)!!! People want to make every excuse for them (the pedals, the company, what, or whomever), rather than believe Fulltone occasionally, perhaps more and more frequently puts out some duds, despite the hype (Search around on the TTE reviews, and find the very credible issues expressed by one writer, that I read, among others, last night) . As I've written, I'm sure yours is fantastic, I am not insulting the pedal that you own, in fact I'm not insulting anything or anyone (not that there's anything wrong with that...). I just want to stress that the all-powerful, all-mighty Fulltone really did send me a clunker, AND IT'S REALLY NOT MY FAULT! Honest to goodness! This is a quality control issue worsened by arrogance, and not to be constantly blamed on the hapless musician!

Reliability : No Opinion

Customer Support : No Opinion
Here's one more area some other reviewers have commented on from my initial review. Having forked over a good chunk of change for a bunch of their pedals, I emailed Fulltone several times about powering them, and received no response. One fellow on Harmony wrote that they should have responded, but seemed to imply this was a trivial matter, akin to asking them how to velcro your pedals to your board (in other words, to put it unkindly, a bonehead question). Another guy "explained" the company's rudeness by stating they probably don't answer any questions which can be answered on the website. Don't make excuses for them! IF that's the case, that makes them Soup Nazis of the worst order. Ever been snubbed in a restaurant by a waiter? Did you figure he ignored your question about your entree because you could have found the answer in the fine print on the back of the menu, page 9? Would you tip him, or eat there again? What sane person in a service industry, employee or president, has the chutzpah to essentially tell his customers to go screw themselves? Who out there thinks they deserve to be treated like that? Talk about Stockholm Syndrome! What about users who don't have the time to search around on their site for answers "hidden", in this case, I am informed, under the president of the company's personal gear page (I'm not gonna call him by his first name. I knew Jerry Garcia, Jerry Garcia was a friend of mine, and Senators, he's no Jerry Garcia!!!). Talk about lousy places to stick important info on the website! Hello, if powering these pedals is so crucial to tone, and tone is your business, it is a no-brainer to let your customers know how to power them for best results, without their having to spend an afternoon combing your vanity museum! While I was a littled ticked off when I found my Clyde to be a dud, having now heard all the excuses from the minions (OR employees-- call me paranoid, but I think he writes some of these reviews himself) and having had all this nonsense blamed on me, I can't wait to replace my Fulltone gear. It just leaves a bad taste in my mouth...insulting...

Wouldn't consider buying another Fulltone product, ever.

It's a wah-probably the simplest pedals to use out there. Switch it on, play your guitar, use your foot, and make music. It has a wider "sweep" than any other wah i've played, and i like that. The stiffness of the "sweep" is adjustable, if you want it to be a little stiffer or looser. There is also an internal trim pot than can be adjusted to tweak the sound. Mine sounded like heaven right out of the box, so i didn't bother adjusting anything.

Sound Quality : 10
Here's the setup: 2004 Suhr classic into Peterson Strobostomp > Clyde > Fulltone Mini Deja-Vibe > Fulltone Fulldrive 2 > Digitech Digidelay into a Fender Blues Jr amp.
This is easily the best sounding wah i have ever played. I don't really use a wah with clean sounds, so it's the wah and Fulldrive 2 that i'm talking about. The sound is deep and throaty, full of quack, and very expressive, which to me is the point of a wah. Using the neck pickup of the Suhr, i could solo all night with this setup.
Different combinations of gear produce different results though, so different overdrives/distortions or amps may react differently with this pedal (as they should). Depending on your setup, and what you're looking for, it may or may not be right for you.
It also seems to add a bit of a boost when engaged, which to me is a good thing.

Reliability : 8
I've had it for a couple of months now, with no problems. Seems like it's built to last, and Fulltone has a good reputation for quality.

Customer Support : 8
This the area where there seems to be the most amount of varied experiences/opinions on Fultone.
My own experience is limited to one email i sent regarding power supplies, and i got a one line answer a couple of days later that was all i needed to know. So at this point, i have no complaints.

Overall Rating : 9
I've been playing over 25 years, mostly blues to space rock, and my priority is getting the sound of my fingers out of the amp when i'm playing. This pedal, like the other 2 Fulltone products i own, allows me to do just that. As i stated earlier, i consider a wah a tool to get a more vocal quality to my sound, and this one excels at that.

Its a Wah pedal. Works just the same as any other wah. It has a bit more travel than the Crybaby, and Vox I had, and WAY more than my vintage Arbiter Wah-Face.
An important note about wahs. You have to learn to "play" one like you learn to play guitar. You have to listen to whats coming out and put the treadle where you want it to get the desired sound. A good wah will not make you a better player. It will help you to achieve a desired vibe and get "that" sound.

Sound Quality : 10

This is the closest thing I have found to the vintage fasel inducted crybaby's of the past. If you want Hendrix, SRV, Clapton, Page ect. they're all in here.

My setup Les Paul/Strat-Clyde Wah-Fulltone Deja-Vibe- SoulBender- DD2 Delay-Bad Cat 30 Amp (Class-A Matchless style amp). There are some others that go in depending what kind of gig I have, but these stay there all the time for the most part.

Reliability : 10
I've heard some talk about bad switches in certain years for the clyde. I know Fuller changed over to the Carling 316pp. You can see a picture of it on his website. They have a longer shaft length and work better for wah than the smaller 3PDT. Mine has the 3PDT and it is still going strong. I have a 316PP as a backup just in case. That being said, this thing is built like a tank and I see no problems in the furure.

Customer Support : 10
Mike has responded quickly to the few questions I have had. Some people on this forum think that just because you buy something from this guy, he is supposed to be your friend. The guy stands behind his products, thats all you can ask for.

Tried quite a few different wahs before I broke down and dropped the bones it takes to get a Fulltone. Tried Crybabys, Vox reissues, both of which were pretty pathetic. I modded several of the Crybabys and voxs for true bypass and then got rid of them. I picked up an old Italian made Arbiter Wah-Face with a Fasel inductor, Icar pot etc.... sounded pretty good, but has a really small amount of travel. THEN...I got the fulltone. Search is over...blah blah blah. Its a great pedal, give it a try before you waste your money on some mass produced piece of garbage.

Like othere responders, I had some issues with the stiffness of the switch. The clyde replaced a Dunlop that switched almost from the weight of the pedal on itself. I liked that. I don't like feeling like I'm kicking a field goal when I switch on and off. But that was minor compared to the other problems

Sound Quality : 5
I'll be fair, my Clyde has a bad switch problem (I think) which makes a sqealing pitched-out squealch sound that other people have mentioned too. The problem is not a quality issue really. My band and I made a CD which features this nifty sound during a quiet spot in a song. Everytime that part of the song comes up I mute the CD or scream (honk the horn, fire pistols) player because I don't want my luke-warm feelings for Fulltone going any further south (I want to be a believer!). I'm sure that fixed, the pedal would sound nice as I have read in other users comments. I don't doubt that. And, oh yeah, I had a similar problem with my primary dist/drive unit - the Fulldrive II. Twice. Luke warm

Reliability : 3
It worked good for a short while, although I think that whatever the problem was/is affected the original sound quality. That is, before the solar-sqealing, underwater rocks crashing together sound began. I say that because my Crybaby (that I sold for $30 - can I have it back whoever you are?) sounded much better and had a much better action. Still, I want to believe.

Customer Support : 4
Here is the crux: If you own a business and manufacture a product, you must deal with the public. Most of the time I think people pat the Fulltone folks (Mike?) on the back for great work/products. When a run of pedals has a problem though -- a shitty switch or a cheap something or other that breaks or fails -- then you need to do something. I have spent more time inside my Fulltone pedals than outside, and when I contact Fulltone I get snorty, quick-flicked and snide responses that barely help or don't help at all. I needed a new switch, twice, for my Fulldrive, and I got them. Okay. I ordered the replacement for the Clyde, and now I have to search the web for wiring instructions. I asked Fulltone...no response. Not right. If the maker flubbs a run, the maker should at least extend some support for those believers who want to fix the problem on their own. Am I missing something? I know what dealing with the public is like and I understand that 90% of the people you deal with (the ones who don't pat you on the back) are fools and will waste all your time if you let them. Mike would probably say that I qualify as one of these jerks. But we jerks are the vast majority of buyers as well, and we don't need a 'soup nazi' on the other end making us feel like we are bothering the maker with our piddly little $300 problems. It's a paradox for sure. That's why we have weekends and marijuana, though, so that we can rest up for the next wave of believers that need help fixing their factory screw-ups.

Overall Rating : 7
Luke warm. I still believe, but I also bought some other gear in the year I've been sitting on these problems. I use my analogman Tubescreamer more and more and my Fulldrive less and less (I look at it...pretty blue with those handy chanels...I miss it). I miss my Clyde too, and I hope to get him wired up and rolling again soon. If anyone knows where the wires go from the 3PDT to the Carling, let me know, we'll start a company together.

This pedal is very to use if you are using just the wah. You get wicked sounds. Its when you add the rest of your pedal line that things get complicated (like all pedals). Luckily I found this great article on KEELEY CUSTOM PEDALS website that has a very comprehensive article on pedal board placement, here is the website http://www.robertkeeley.com/faq.php#Effect%20Order. Look half way down the list and you'll find the article. The manual is fine. And yes it is going to get upgraded (i will speak of this more soon)

Sound Quality : 9
My setup is 2004 Gibson Les Paul Standard > 2002 Fulltone Clyde Wah > 2003 Fulltone FatBoost > '99 Prescription Electronics Vibe Unit > 2000 Fender Pedal Style Tuner > '99 Marshall JCM 900 (212). It took a long time to get the pedal order right so that everything sounded as it should. Now thankfully my board is all finished and all my pedals a resting a PedalTrain Pedal board (very nice). The wah sounds great (i mean amazing on its own and with a strat (i used to have one) it really sounds amazing stand alone with a bloody strat. when in a pedal board with a les paul it gets a bit more like Clapton or Page wah rather than when its stand alone and sounds like hendrix or vaughan. I have to say though this pedal NAILS Pages wah tone!!! Oh yeah everything is powered by a Voodoolabs Pedal Power2. Very distinct wah though, can be used as a boost if you are getting drowned out at a gig, i find there is volume boost while engaged. I have it set to the factory fulltone settings, i find the vox settings that mike fuller added get lost when its in a pedal board. There are major flaws in this pedal though, which i will get into next. The sound quality is GREAT for classic rock... truly nails that tone.

Reliability : 5
This is where the problems begin. First off, the 2002 clyde wahs use those tiny 6 pin true bypass switchs. I find they are very finicky. It is very hard sometimes to disengage this pedal, sometimes requiring quite a hard stomp on it. This is a major prob. as in live gigs you dont wanna be messing with pedals during or after solos or what not. Im going to get this replace with a standard 9pin true bypass by Robert Keeley (as mike wont do it) i will also be getting installed a LED indicator! Another problem is that the tiny switch is also pretty fragile and is now subsequently broken as it crackles win i sweep up near it (another reason to change it) Robert keeley WILL NOT change the 6pin switch to a 9pin!!!!!! very annoying. Also a strange hum has started happening whenever i engage the unit. Again I talk to robert and he said he'd sort it out while he's replacing the truebypass switch. I think Mike Fuller had a bunch of comlaints about the 6pin switchs as it appears that the new 2003/04's have a 9pin switch (thats what it appears like in the pics on his site) also his deluxe has them (that has always been like that) strange that he wouldn't put a 9pin in his lower model... oh well it will soon be resolved. That is the major gripe with this pedal.

Customer Support : 7
didn't really have to email him as his website is very very detailed on what he does and doesn't do. That i believe is why he doesnt reply very often. Like the guy before that said he asked mike about a pedal supply for his pedals. Mike has it listed on his site that he suggests to use a voodoo labs pedal power2 (its in the section about his own pedal board) oh well... luckily Robert KEELEY make and mods pedals and his reputation is growing! check out his website www.robertkeeley.com

Overall Rating : 9
Great sounding wah. after ive fixed it up it should be fine. man that LED will be helpful. I'll write a follow review to tell you guys how well it works out. but great pedal. if the new ones have a 9pin bypass (as i believe they do) then you shouldn't have the same problems that i have had. goodluck

Its a Wah pedal, so there isn't a great deal of operating difficulty here. The sweep is quite smooth, and I love the extended travel of the treadle, it really allows for a lovely quack. It gets a 9 simply because you have to remove the bottom plate to access the internal trimmer. Not a problem, but on mine, I have to use a screwdriver because the rubber feet are not quite tight enough around the screws to facilitate screwdriver-less unscrewing.

Sound Quality : 10
Pristine something fierce. This wah sounds exactly as I've always dreamed a great wah would sound... no more, no less, just high quality tone. The true Bypass is a godsent, and the transparency of the tone when the wah is engaged is gorgeous. I've owned a couple of Crybabys and a Vox V847 Reissue Wah and I was always dissatisfied with the way they alter your base sound when engaging the wah--- it always sounded like two different rigs when hearing the wah engaged and then disengaged. With the Clyde, finally I have something that is transparent enough to let my tone shine, but dense enough to allow the sweet sound of the wah through. Fantastic. My rig is as follows:

Strat/Tele/Bluesbird >>Clyde Wah >Fulldrive 2 >Korg DT-10 Tuner >Fender Twin Amp. Effects loop: Line 6 MM4 >Boss DD-20 Giga Delay > Electro Harmonix Holy Grail Reverb. I use George L cables and a Godlyke Powerall, which silently powers nearly everything in the chain.

Now here's an issue of major importance: You'll notice the reviewer below me here is complaining of ear piercing highs and inaudible lows... well I too had something similar with the clyde when I first plugged it in... for some reason without thinking I went into My Fulldrive 2 and then into the Wah.... bad move. This is the so called "Synth" sound, and I hated it. At first, I thought there must be some mistake with the Clyde, but after five minutes of piercing high-end when I hit the fulldrive, I realized my own error. Hendrix, Clapton, and SRV all seem to prefer going into the wah BEFORE going into the overdrive pedal, and I totally agree! This problem is compounded by the fact that the Clyde has a longer sweep and thus more high and low end, so If you're distortion is before it, watch out. Perhaps the reviewer below made this same error?

Reliability : 10
If you know Fulltone, you know that these things are built to last for an extremely long time if treated properly. I always baby my gear, and I would not hesitate to gig without a back-up for the Clyde. The treadle seems to be solid, and the nylock nut makes adjustment easy and effective.

Customer Support : 7
I emailed a question regarding the best way to attach pedals to a pedalboard using velcro and got no response. I'm not surprised, as it wasn't a hugely important question and I basically answered it myself later on, but some sort of response might have been nice.

Overall Rating : 9
I play primarily Blues, Blues Rock, Rockabilly etc... After 12 years of toiling with sub-par wahs, I've finally found a gem in the Clyde. You do get what you pay for, and I'm really quite impressed. I fell in love with Fulltone stuff after recieving my Fulldrive 2 in the mail, and this Clyde Wah upholds that tradition of excellence. I also think it looks incredibly cool, the stark white contrasts nicely against my other pedals....

Operating it is theoretically like any other wah. However, mine was impossible to use on the gig, as, when engaged there was a large increase in volume in the upper registers, and a large decrease in the lower ones, making it jarring at one end, and inaudible at the other. Adjusting the internal trimmer did not resolve this problem. I'm fairly certain my particular pedal was a dud: this can't possibly be the way Clydes are supposed to operate! Still I can only evaluate My pedal.

Sound Quality : 1
My usual set-up is a 2001 Gibson Custom Shop 1958 "Authentic" Les Paul re-issue with Burstbucker pick-ups - FD2 - Fatboost - Fender pedal-style tuner - Fender '65 Deluxe Reverb Reissue. I also occasionally employ a Soulbender fuzz. Expecting a wide tonal sweep, my pedal had a perplexingly narrow one-- there was no effect to little on 1/2 to 3/4 of the pedal, then once it did "speak up" it "jumped" very quickly through the spectrum, accompanied by a harsh boost in volume! Everytime I'd quack I'd cringe! I must have gotten a dud! This could not be the intended sonic palette! The pedal had, as advertized, a lot of movement, but only effected the sound in a frustratingly narrow portion of the wah!

Reliability : 1
I couldn't even rely on it for the one gig I used it on. The rating scale indicaters on this database suggest a rating of "1" if "I think it worked once". However, it didn't work once to my satisfaction- but that's the lowest rating option available.

Customer Support : 1
I've emailed Fulltone on 3 seperate occasions with the same, simple, polite question regarding powering my other Fulltone pedals, and they have never bothered to respond with even a one, two or three word answer (that's all that was necessary). As I've invested some 700 odd dollars in their pedals over the past six months, that's pretty insulting. And a bad business practice to boot!

Overall Rating : 1
I mostly play electric blues in a variety of styles, also rock, R&B, funk & soul. I make my living working pretty much the Florida chitlin circuit and private parties. I've been playing over twenty years. As you may have guessed, I've returned my Clyde for a refund. I don't believe it's performance was typical. However, it was extremely disappointing to get a defective unit from a "boutique" company like Fulltone. Each unit is purportedly played/demoed by the President of the company. If so, I say shame on you for letting this one out after hearing it! I bought it over ebay (new) so I didn't have a chance to hear it prior to purchase. I must say that I love their Fatboost which I bought from a local music store back in December- as they claim, I never turn it off! Likewise, my Fulldrive2 is a winner. I had a lot of faith in the company's products, my customer support issue aside, but now I'm ambivalent. I think I'll look elsewhere for additional pedal purchases. I will not buy another Clyde under any circumstance! For $215 you should get a sure winner-- Fulltone, I love you anyway, you're getting sloppy!

Only thing I have to say SMALL is the "true Bypass" gives me the SLIGHTEST issue, but its so small, I think only I can hear anydifference. ITs still true bypass, but I SURE wish I could say it absolutly didn't do anything to my tone when off. But this isn't a complaint. I have been a vox user for 8 years (as long as i've been playing) and i have never come as close to that recording until now. Judge for yourself.

This is without doubt the best wah on the market. I own a FIRST RATE 1968 Vox, and the Clyde blows it away, as it does my old RM Vision wah and my Teese RMC 3 (which is also first rate). Use it in any setup, and it is wonderful - transparent but with a dense quack.

Switch is a bit iffy ( Mike Fuller put Carling switches on later models, solving this problem) and drops out if not given a good whack. Other than that -it's fine - I'll change the switch myself.

I'd buy it again and again if necessary. I've never heard a wah which sounded so good - and in my relatively short career so far I've owned pretty much all the best (and the rest) on the market...... Snarling Dog (dog crap more like), a variety of crybabys (including an original, a 535 and a Hendrix model) - but these are not at all good. The Roger Mayer Vision is good, as is the Budda, but the Teese RMC3 is better. The Fulltone is far and away the best. If you are a wah head, then buy one. If you live in the UK like me - try and get a second hand one (#300 is a bit much)I would give the pedal an 8 if I had paid full whack, but ebay to the rescue! No doubt about it - if only it went to 11...............

Play all kinds of music...jazz, blues, country & western (have to play both kinds ;- p ), rock, metal, pop...pedal fills the need when necessary. Not so great on the classical/flaminco stuff though...heh heh.

I play music for a living...need solid, reliable, quiet, toneful gear and have found the Fulltone line fits the bill. My gear has been stolen before and I've replaced it all...this pedal was actually an upgrade from the noisy dunlap Cry Baby in the original board. Would probably repurchase the Clyde if such circumstances required it.

Long and short of it....if you're looking for a WAH, you should definately give this one a listen...

N/A. operates similar to other wah pedals. It has an adjustable treadle screw which is nice. The manual is very good and explains the features of the pedal well. By removing the bottom cover you can also adjust a pot inside that can alter the amount of bass the pedal puts out. Very nice.

Sound Quality : 9
Let me say this. "If you can't tell the difference between this pedal and a Dunlop you must be deaf!!" If you like the Dunlop better, so be it, everyone has there own idea of good tone. But the Dunlop doesn't even wah above the 12th fret where the Clyde keeps wahing to at least the 17th fret. At least in my setup. That is not even an issue of tone. That is just better quality, clarity, and versitility. You don't always get what you pay for, but in this case you do. The Clyde's quality was obvious to me after swapping it with a Dunlop Crybaby. I now am hooked on using my wah in solos because it adds to my sound instead of covering it up. I also noticed that the true-bypass leaves my tone unaltered as it's supposed to, which is really the biggest reason I got the Clyde. This really is a great sounding pedal and I am not easily surprised. I will give it a 9 in this category because I wish it had a volume boost of some kind. But then, most wah's don't. Oh yeah, I am using it with a VHT head and Jackson Custom V guitar, with various effects in the loop and the Clyde placed in front of the amp where it seems to work best for me.

Plug this puppy into your rig, pull the back off and tweak the internal control to custom tailor this to your setup. You have to keep turning the unit upside down then rightside up to test out each possible tweaking. You shouldn't have to turn it more than 1/8 of a turn left or right of the factory setting or you just get garbage. You can turn it far but only a small adjustment will be worth investigating. Set it, forget it, and then let it rip. If you don't feel like messing with it don't worry. The setting Mike Fuller has set is good enough for most. It's just nice to be able to tweak your gear yourself.

Sound Quality : 9
I am using an American Classic Strat with Texas Special pickups and a Jimi Hendrix model strat. I use a modified Marshall Plexi Reissue(6550's in place of EL34's). Straight through to the Marshall it provides the most vocal wah ever. I think this has something to do with the long travel and the quality workmanship(duh!). What I can't get over is the massive amount of squeak and squeal that this thing kicks out when I use it in conjunction with my 70' pedal. I have blamed it on the wah because it does this at high volumes with any intense overdrive from my amp or my fuzzboxes. My Vox reissue didn't do this. I think this has to do with the extended sweep of the pedal. I haven't tried to tune this out with the internal control because I don't think it will do much because of the limited adjustment available. In the world of tone I have found you take the good with the bad. You make an improvement here and another problem or variable pops up there. Although I am doing some serious complaining here I still won't go back to the Vox or any other unit for that matter. I have even managed to get the squealing to work for me on some of the recording I have done by getting this thing to squeal in key! I realize this is not an option for sonic perfection sissies. When used at high volumes and big distortion it kicks out the tone every bit as much as low volumes but at those cleaner quiet tones I swear I can hear this thing talk and cry to me as if it has a soul of it's own. Taking these factors into consideration I give it an 8 and 17/32. If I didn't play the pure raunch and used low volumes it would easily get a 10.

It's a wah, not a lot of learning curve here. Press forward, engage, rock until your foot gets tired, press forward again, bypass.

The only problem I had, is I'm used to a Vox wah, and this thing has move travel on both ends. You can rock your foot further both ways. Not that big a deal, but it took me a few days to get used to it after 20 odd years of playing a Vox.

Sound Quality : 10
This is the best sounding, most musical wah I've had yet, hands down. The ONLY other wah I've had I've liked (almost as much) is a old modded Vox. I've had Morleys, Budda, Dunlop, Boomerang (OK, if you like that Shaft tone, the Boomerang is it, hands down), and this is my favourite by far.

I use it for everything, almost all the time. I can't tell the differance in my chain, with this in the loop, or out. Sounds the same to me. No degradation at all.

I tend to leave it on pretty frequent, and use it for a 'tone filter' while I'm not using it as a wah-wah. I'm kinda into Mick Box (you know, Mr. Uriah Heep) and this delivers. It sounds just as good with all my varied guitars and amps. My Vox for example, is kind of picky to me, and I think it sounds best with a Les Paul. This fulltone, sounds just as good (to my ears) with a Wolfgang, 330, Explorer, Strat, ect... I dig it with everything.

Reliability : 10
There really isn't much to go wrong here, as long as the pot don't wear out. Anymore, this is the ONLY wah I drag around with me, I trust it more then most all my other gear. I think you'd really have to try to kill a wah pedal.

Customer Support : 10

I've been playing for well over 2 decades, and own way too much gear to list. Mostly Gibson Guitars/basses/amps/pedals, ect...

I actually have 2 of these things. Not that I expect problems out of it, but it's such a big part of my sound, that I'm not taking any chances. Hands down, this is the best sounding wah I've yet played.

After an initial adjustment to get used to the "sweet spot"'s location, I am now in vintage Vox wah tone-land. The Clyde is silent and non-microphonic, and does the Hendrix thing well. Occasionally it is easy to miss the switch or forget to turn it off, so an LED would be nice, but I've gotten in the habit of leaving the pedal in the bass position when I step off it, so if it's still on, you know it right away instead of playing for 15 minutes and wondering why the high end seems so prominent all of a sudden. Ths pedal will NOT suck your tone like some wahs will. Listen to "Rainy Day, Dream Away " by Hendrix, and you'll get the idea.

Reliability : 10
I have an old De Armond Weeper that I replaced with the Clyde due to some reliability/noise issues, but the Weeper stays at home. I figure if the Clyde's pot wears out after 15,000 movements, I'll go without for the rest of that gig until I can get another.

Not as tweakable as the Crybaby 535Q or Bad Horsie 2, but Fulltone pedals blow away the competition on quality, workmanship, and reliability. You can own three or 4 Crybabys in the lifetime that you will own a Clyde. If you need knobs to tweak, consider the Clyde Deluxe. The clyde does have an internal pot you can adjust, but I've never felt the need to fool with it, as I'm happy with the sound I've got straight out of the box.

Hey, it's a Wah. This is the easiest of all effects pedals. One thing that is particularly cool about this Wah is that you can make adjustment inside, trim up the bass or treble. However, I leave it alone. You can't fix perfection.

Sound Quality : 10
OUSTANDING!!! I play a Gibson Les Paul Classic through a Mesa/Boogie DC-5 so I had to buy a fulltone. Why throw a piece of junk in with a high quality instrument and a Boogie? This is why I went fulltone. Anyways, I am total Led Head so as soon as I received my Wah I had test it out with a little 'No Quarter'. As I am sure you all know, the greats like Clapton, Page, SRV, Hendrix all used the VOX. Later, when I was reading about Wah pedals I discovered that there are some very important components that give each pedal (or brand) their own distinct sound. (pots, and especially the inductor) After some research I found that the old "Clyde Picture Wah" as well as the old Italian made Thomas Organ Co. VOX w/ the burnt orange "stack of dimes" inducters and even the "film canister" are supposed have the best tone. But I also found out that they were a little unpredictable, with a variance in tone. Also, you're talking serious coin for a nice vintage VOX. That's when I found out about the kind of work Fulltone was doing. I read a couple of reviews that outlined the Fulltone commitment to the vintage "Clyde" tone and checked out the website for a listen. Once I heard the pedal in action I was sold. I am going to rate a -10- because it fits my vision of great tone.

Reliability : 10
Built like tank. I really can't imagine one of these going bad. I'm very serious when I say this is truely a quality piece.

Customer Support : No Opinion
I.ve yet to deal with fulltone directly so I haven't an opinion.

Overall Rating : 10
My overall rating of this pedal is that it is truely terrific. It is absolutely perfect if you are in to Cream, Zeppelin, Hendrix, SRV or just about about any other classic band. I am not going to say that the Fulltone will out perform any other pedal in any musical situation because that would be plain stupid, because it is all about an individuals preference. I will say this though, it can't possibly get much better. Even the RMC, as good as they are supposed to be, couldn't be a better Wah. It may suit someone elses preferences more but there is no way it is better. Quality, Quality, Quality!!! I can't stress that enough.

This is by far the best fucking wah on the face of the earth... Don't need all the buttons, "maytag" switches.... Click and go!!! No extra noise at all... I used mainly Strats (With the occasional tele, sg jr, & Firebird)->Clyde Wah,Deja-vibe,Soul-bender,fulldrive II,RM Octavia,supa-trem,H&K rotosphere, EH Dlx memory man, line 6 DM-4 Delay w/ expression pedal into a MESAA/Boogie Maverick 2X12 combo and a Matchless Clubman 35 with 2X12 cab.

Although this unit has been technically "upgraded" by the Deluxe Clyde, I'm perfectly happy with the good ole' regular Clyde. Right out the box, it was easy to get a good sound no matter where I put in my effects loop. It's just got so a tremendous sweep and the definition is always right there. Indeed, I feel that this one (at least for me) is easier to use that the Deluxe (which I've also tried recently) because it's one sound (but, oh, that sound) and I don't spend any time turning that knob that says "Shaft" etc.

Sound Quality : 10
I use the Clyde with an ES-335. I run it out of a VHtT Valvulator and before the rest of my effects (there's nine of them, including a Fulldrive 2). The wah is just wonderful. It's not noisy at all and I find it compliments almost every pedal in my rig, save for my phaser.

Reliability : 8
The pedal is built like a tank. Nevertheless, I had a few strange issues clicking it in and out. At one point, I had to really stamp on it to get my signal back. However, after making an adjustment to the clicker, it works like a charm and I've never had the problem again. If anything, I'm sure I'm the one who busted it in the first place.

Very Easy. Getting inside to adjust the Resonance control is also easy. If you're used to the feel of a Vox or a Crybaby pedal, the Clyde's greater sweemp range will take just a bit of getting-used-to, but depending on how you use wah, we're talking minutes or hours, not days or weeks.

Sound Quality : 9
Background noise-wise, the Clyde is perhaps 5% quieter than the Crybaby.
<P>

There is an internal "Resonance Control" which is a trimmer, that adds Bass and gain as you turn it. This control lets you adjust the wah's tone (somewhat). I found two useful settings ("default" and "Vox") You may find more than I did.
<P>
With the default factory setting, the Clyde's low end (at the full back pedal postion) was silkier than the Crybaby's. i.e. there was more guitar tone and less wah tone. At the full forward position, there was a bit more high end on the Clyde than on the Crybaby. When playing on the high E, it's not quite ice-pick-in-the-ear, but it was getting close. If you have a trebley sounding guitar, you may have to adjust the control to compensate.
<P>
At the Vox setting, the Clyde gets this wonderfully rude, quacking, honking, best-Vox-you-ever-heard type of tone. High and low end now VERY much more like my Crybaby, but with more tonal sweep range in the low mids.

Reliability : No Opinion
It's still new, but the Clyde is built like a tank and looks pretty bulletproof, inside and out. Easily the best build quality of any wah out there.

20 years ago, it used to be you had to play between 10 and 15 WILDLY inconsistent Crybaby's, pick the best sounding one, and then have it modded it for true bypass. Now all that grunt-work is done for you. You get that situaion straight out-of-the-box from the the Clyde Standard. Plus you get a noise reduction cuicuit and a bit of adjustment capability.
<P>
I play rock/metal and use the wah for tonal color ala Michael Schenker. The Clyde is a good match for that because basically, it's designed to be everything a GREAT Vox or Crybaby should be.

There are AT LEAST two usable sounds available from the Clyde Standard Wah. That alone makes it an upgrade over even a great-sounding, true-bypass Crybaby. While you couldn't really adjust the Resonance Control during a song in a live performance, you could can adjust the settings (without any tools) in a matter of minutes and this could be fun/useful in the context of a recording session. If you want that resonance nob on the outside of the pedal, you have to get the more expensive Clyde Deluxe. But in that price range, and if I wanted ultimate tweak-ability, I'd probably go with the RMC. But I'm more of a "set-and-forget" guy, so the Clyde suits me fine.

Like others have said, it is a wah pedal. But this pedal is so expressive, it casts another dimension on ease of use. Is it easy? Sure. But it's sensitivity is so broad that you will want to pay attention to its position when you don't have it bypass and leave it in a fixed spot.

Sound Quality : 9
I have this pedal with nothing more than a PRS Santana II and a Huges and Kettner TriAmp. Very clean stuff. Anyone who knows anything at all about the TriAmp knows how sensitive this amp is to artifacts. So if this pedal had any problem at all, it would definitely come through. But right out of the box it was clean and clear. No noise, no hiss, nada. As to the effect itself, well I just got the pedal but after taking my Budda and giving it away because it was so crappy on my gear, I was pretty skeptical even with this pricey pedal. But I was wrong to doubt. This pedal right out of the box with its longer throw of the treadle gives you a much broader tonal sweep than the B*. I found that mine hits just the right range on the highs but I'm curious about adjusting down a little towards the bass end. I also noticed that on a really, really slow sweep of the treadle, like dead slow, there's a little jump or hitch in the sweep. But speeding this up to a normal sweep, it performed great. And I mean great. This thing is so damn expressive you'd think someone's kid was inside crying. I play mostly Santana and Hendrix, I'm pretty much old school in my tastes. This thing just nailed the wah in "Put Your Lights On" as the first song I played with the pedal so for you Santana fans out there, check out this pedal. I think you'll be pleased. As I said, I haven't tried adjusting the pedal and there are some ways to tweak it to your own tastes but I'm definitely happy with my first impression. The B* on the other hand...don't waste your money.

Reliability : 9
Can't say really other than I'm impressed with the steel housing. Definitely sturdy. As for the moving parts, that remains to be seen.

Actually I was a little disappointed here. I contacted Fulltone by e-mail and by phone. I never got a response. However, their website was very helpful in locating a dealer. I sent e-mail to all the dealers listed with e-mail addresses. I got responses from most of them. But the one where I bought the pedal from was really outstanding (fatsoundguitars.com) If you go there, in person or virtual, ask for Stu. Man these guys were beyond great. I needed the pedal before Saturday. I ordered the pedal late Tuesday, 30 minutes before overnight shipping cutoff. Stu shipped out the pedal after we hung up even though there was a problem with the card I gave him. Tell me that isn't something to write about. We got it squared away the next day but these guys are great. They had the pedal in stock, they gave me a great price, and gave me excellent service. Check 'em out.

Overall Rating : 9
If you like vintage rock (before I was bald on top and gray around the temples we called it acid rock - Hendrix, Clapton, Santana) and that's the sound you want, even in creating your own stuff, you will probably like this pedal. Different pedals sound different with the gear you have but this pedal is perfect with my gear. I've been playing now for about 33 years but mostly acoustic so maybe I'm not the best judge. But like I said, this pedal nailed that vintage sound and is just so damn expressive. No bull. I think I understand some of the less than glowing reviews because I have to say I had the same experience with the Budda and yet all the reviews on the B* were great, you know, great pedal and all that crap. I guess you just have to chalk it up to what people are looking for and the gear they are using. But the B* for me, and at a friends house too, only went "winky winky" and only when you moved your foot so fast you thought you'd get carpal tunnel in your ankle before the night was out. This pedal wahs and cries like none other. I spent a lot of time researching this pedal out. I almost went for a couple of other high end pedals but after hearing some sound files off the net comparing different pedals, I knew this pedal was the one I wanted. Where I live, I don't have stores that carry high end pedals in stock so I was limited to what I found on the web. What I got at home was even better. I thought about going for the Clyde Deluxe to be honest but I just decided to stay more vintage. I'm glad I did. I'm sure the Deluxe will be a fine pedal and I might even buy that one too to compliment the standard Clyde. But for now, the Clyde is just fine. I hope this helps.

It's a wah. You plug it in and it doesn't change your tone (because of the true-bypass), you turn it on without having to mash it down too hard, but you also don't accidently turn it off either. It's the perfect wah, that's if you're into good tone.

Sound Quality : 8
The Clyde is the best wah I've ever used. I played through a vintage vox that was cool, (Messy 60s tone, it was cool, but not clear) but nothing compares to the clarity and how little artifacts you hear. It sounds like a studio EQ, only faster. I play rock and roll, mostly heavier Clapton, and Hendrix with beefed out Beatles covers and alot of original music. It is very clean. Not a perfect copy of 60-70s tone, but so clear and modern, I can't say anything bad about it. I play through a mesa with an RG 570 and a strat with an evolution in the bridge (the evolution is alittle much, but...) I can't overload this pedal. I can use it as a filter in certain spots and it just gives my guitar a new tone. You can't tell if it's on, but you can hear a boost at 3k. Unlimited tonal options. One thing that I've been noticing recently is that the volume seems to get ever so slightly quieter then the pedal is on. That could just be in my head, but it is enough to address.

Reliability : 9
One time the switch didn't switch all the way and I had to stomp it again to get it to come on, but I think that was my fault and it only happened once. I've got a back up. I've replaced it with all Fulltone parts. I've never had to use it.

Customer Support : No Opinion
From everyone I've talked to they're great to deal with. I don't know personally.

For any style of music you'd use a wah on, this is the cleanest most beautiful wah I've ever heard. I've been playing for 10 years and gigging for 7 and through all my amps I've gone through While I had this pedal(Mesa Nomad, Dual Rectifier, Fender Princeton Chorus) it has been perfect. For one show I had my crybaby 535q and the fulltone on my pedal board, and after the first set I packed up the 535q. The volume boost was kinda nice and the variable sweep on the outside was cool, but the fulltone was so clean and pure I couldn't get enough of the tone. I'd buy another one. If it had a boost function that might be nice, since most times I use wah for solos, but most wahs don't have that, so that's not so fair.

Wah pedal...easy to operate yet difficult to master. Anybody reading this should be somewhat familiar with using one. The manual was cool and informative about the parts and pieces used in the CLYDE.

Sound Quality : 10
I am currently using the CLYDE with a modidied 91 American Standard Strat, Marshall 50-watt SL-X head into Marshall 2x12 cab, BOSS DS-1 Distortion and OC-2 Octaver. This pedal is so quiet it's surprising. The newer ones as of June are made with a new switch that is TOTALLY silent. No pops, crackles, hiss. Very important when playing with a loud high gain setup. The sound of this thing is so superior to any other wah out there that any serious wah addict should do himself a favor and save up that paper route money to get this thing. I've played the VOX re-issue and the Crybaby and I was satisfied (like most folks) with the VOX. The Cybaby has such peircing highs, it's almost unusuable. The VOX is so vocal and expressive, that I thought I had a great wah. But I decided to give the CLYDE a chance because of all the raving that goes on about it. Unbelievable. Makes the VOX sound like lo-fi trash. All the nasaly vocal stuff is in there. The sound is so complex. With a wider sweep, it does take a tad bit of getting used to, but as you ease your foot forward, you will be amazed at the richness and complexity and just sheer tone quality. Amazing. I never thought a wah could sound this good.

Reliability : 10
This thing is definently built to last. No backup necessary

Have talked to and e-mailed Mike Fuller. The switch on mine wasn't tightened enough from the inside, and he talked me through a quick tightening. Very nice on the phone, very polite, didn't seem to want to quit talking about wahs and he gave me a great crash course in the history of wahs and Mr. Clyde McCoy. But I had to let the guy go because he wouldn't drop the quarter for the long distance call.

Overall, this is the ultimat in hi-fi, no nonsense wah tone, control and feel. Carrying a $300 price tag, I'd say this is only for someone who is serious about his wah and his tone. A $69 Crybaby is hard to pass up if you only play guitar every now and then. But if your head hurts day and night because you can't find the ultimate wah....you've found it.

It's a wah. It's easier than the Dunlop to tell whether the switch is engaging. There's an internal trimpot but it sounds best in the factory position. One thing on use: The treadle has a different feel and a wider sweep than all the ones in the Vox/Crybaby type housings. This is part of the Clyde's good design but takes a bit of getting used to; you don't get as much sound change for each increment of foot movement. But when you do get used to it, you get better control, particularly of the stationary tone-notches available. I call it a plus but you have to work it awhile and get used to it. There's a nylon nut that lets you adjust the treadle resistance.

Sound Quality : 10
Do we need another review of the Clyde? I'm old enough now that the pedals I got when I started out would be considered vintage. I bought, in 1974, a Thomas Organ Cry Baby. I just thought it sounded like a wah at the time, but after 16 years of heavy service, it just fell apart. Then I went through two Dunlop reissues and killed both of them. Then I went wah shopping. Here's what I found.

I tried all these wahs, most of them in brutal a/b testing. Several Charlie Skinner foot-shaped wahs, the Vox V-847 reissue, the Crybaby 535 multi-sound wah, the Kern tube-powered wah, the Colorsound reissue wah, and maybe one or two others. The 535 had a lot of different tones but no one tone knocked me down. The Kern tube wah looked promising but sounded wimpy. The orange Stringer pedal had definite possiblities. The Colorsound was kind of a one-trick pony. It came down to the Vox reissue or the Fulltone Clyde. I actually took home the Vox for a while, but came back and spent another $125 for the Clyde. Why? It just sounded better. Played into a clean amp it is very quiet and mellow and vocal. I never play it into a clean amp. Into a Fulldrive or 808 it sounds articulate and very musical. I played it outdoors with the Fulldrive and a 70s Marshall and it absolutely nailed the Cream tone. You just can't get a bad sound out of it. I know it sounds cheesy to give a 10 rating, but that's my story and I'm sticking to it.

Reliability : No Opinion
Here's what you're paying for. Other reviewers have mentioned this, but we need to understand about wah construction.

Most wahs new and old come in the standard Vox/CryBaby housing. Contrary to what you read, this is not steel or other durable metal but is cast-zinc. So is the treadle. It can and will crack irreparably if you drop it, or stomp on it over the years. The feet mount via screws into the soft cast metal. These screws can and do break off or strip out (my c-b reissues sure did) and then you're out of luck. Just try to drill and tap out the little screw when it breaks off! I did, and I had no success. The bottom plate is very thin aluminum that distorts and breaks. Now, in the vintage units they had jacks separate from the circuit board, and these jacks could be of good quality and were replaceable if they had a problem. The Dunlop reissue has plastic PC-mounted jacks which can and do strip out, and then you're trying to epoxy the danged thing together. The Dunlop reissues are made cheap and not to last. They are throwaway pedals you can get on sale for $69 sometimes. When you have a problem, don't waste your time like I did, trying to rethread this and epoxy that. Throw it away and buy another one, or get serious and get a Clyde! (The Vox reissue still has separate jacks for reliability. You could easily modify it with a DPDT switch for true bypass. Don't even try this mod with the PC-mount Dunlop.)

ALL these types of pedals, even the vintage ones we bow down before, have tone-sucking SPDT switches.

But the Clyde is made of heavy formed and welded plate steel. I don't know how you'd break it without tools. The switch is a DPDT true-bypass design so it is mechanically switched out of your system when it's off. The thing looks like it was made for Special Forces. Of course I'd use it at a gig without a backup. But then they send soldiers into battle with only one M-16, so any kind of backup at a gig is a luxury. I normally don't mess with backups, preferring to just buy quality stuff and make sure it's maintained.

I don't have a rating here because it's only a few months old. I expect it to last decades with normal abuse.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Fuller answers emails. I never had a problem with any of his stuff.
People complain about him but he's busy making some of the world's finest pedals.

Overall Rating : 9
$275 is a lot of money to pay for a doggone wah wah pedal. Especially when you can get a Dunlop cry baby on sale at Mega Guitar Conglomerate for $69 on sale sometimes. You could go through four of the Dunlops for what a Clyde will cost you. The Vox reissue is a serious tone competitor and better built than the Dunlop, and it's still a lot cheaper than the Clyde.

Why buy a Clyde? It just sounds better, and is built better, than the Vox. $125 better? Maybe it comes down to whether you're a wah aficionado and use it all the time as an integral part of your sound, or just use one occasionally when a song calls for it. I grew up on a steady diet of Cream and Hendrix, and have worn out three wah pedals. For me, it was worth the extra cash the Clyde costs. Now I know I have the best and don't have to worry about it. If you're a kid starting out, that $69 wah is tempting, but I'd still save my bucks from my crummy minimum-wage job and get the Clyde. You'll still be playing it when you're my age.

I have the Fulltone Fulldrive and Deja-vibe, in addition to the Clyde. All this stuff is just top quality. I know I sound like a Fulltone ad, but really, the man makes the best.

I give Clyde only a 9 because it is very costly, although I anticipate that the high initial cost will be partly offset over the years by the replacements I won't have to buy. I'd buy it again.

Pretty easy to use. It's a Wha-Wha pedal which is a easy effect to use but you need to work at it to get exceptional results form it. It's wide sweep takes a little getting used to if you've only used shorter travel pedals like Voxs. The manual is cool at explaining what that little adjustable trim pot does on the inside. Over all it is easy to use.

Simply a GREAT sounding wah. OK I have always felt that Wah's are the most personal of all guitar effects cause you have to make it work. The guy operating it is as important as the device it self. It's not like a Distortion or Chorus where you just hit a button and it does it's thing. You got to work a Wah with your foot and listen to the Frequencies and Tones it is giveing you. Then you have to work with what it is putting out or turn it off. That's the best I can explain it. I've had the Clyde for about 6 or 7 months now and I usally wait longer before submitting a review but every gig I get more and more impressed with it til' I just had to write. I use it with a few different Strats, PRS C22...Deja-Vibe, Fulldrive II, 69' Pedal, Voodoo Lab Proctaiva...into a Soldano Decatone Head and a 4X12 Marshall Cab. Right now I'm Stunt Guitarist in a Ol'School R&B Funk band. They keep me around for when they need that Hendrix/Isley/Funkadelic type vibe. So I get to use the Clyde for a lot of chord type work and the over the top type guitar rides. First thing that I noticed about the unit is how Quite and Clean it is through out it's range. Not a scratch or buzz anywhere in it. Just Amazing! Some of you may have but I have never heard a wha so clean and quite. Freaks me out every time. It's so clear I can turn Marvin Gaye's "Let's Get It On" in to a Wha Wha Tour de Force. I have turned down the internal trim pot a little bit from where Mike sets it. I found it a little easier to control this way. Some of the Extreme settings where interesting and fun to play with. The Maximum setting almost sounds like a Mutron III triggered by your foot. Out of the box I could nail Jimi's "Come On Part2" sound which I have never been pleased with when using other wah's. In one of the older reviews there is a guy talking about knowing the where abouts of Jimi's "Voodoo Chile Slight Return" wah and how superior it was to a Clyde. Well I can't have Jimi's old pedal so this is gonna have to do. I've tried the RMC, Budda, Bad Horsie (Mr. Vai you sure you like that?)Dunlop, and the Vox reissue. Some of these are great sounding products, but to me the Clyde was more of what I was looking for. I find the middle of the sweep is where all the vintage vox type tones live and I can get that " Martian speaking in tongues" type sound going on in this area. It's hard to maintain but I can get a sort of Tremolo effect if I move the pedal fast enough. Pretty cool but hard to keep up for a whole song.

This is like all of Mike's stuff which is pretty reliable. Use it with out a back up all the time. Built sturdy and the inside is a neat wiring job. I'm sure this well be in the set up til I hang it up.

Spoken to Mike on a few occasions. Very helpful and informative. Answers e-mail in a few hours most of the time. Had trouble with a switch on a Deja-Vibe once he sent me a new one free. No Problem. Mike cares about his customers and his product. If I got to give up big bucks for effects to somebody it just as soon be him. Incredibly Kind and Helpful?? Well he is to me and I'm a nobody.

I play various types of music but I'm a Blues,Rock R&B, Jazz sort of guy. Always been a big Jimi fan and so is Mike. When I read that he started building his products to get Jimi's sound I said " Dat's da stuff fa me." Never been disappointed since. On the Clyde it may be fun to have a knob on the side so you can turn that trim pot but I guess I'd just be fooling around with it alnight instead of playing my guitar. But it's something to think about. I just don't know if it's a fantactic value so it only gets a 9 but to me it's worth every penny.

Step on it to engage and disengage. Has a single knob inside to add bass and gain. All Fulltone manuals are very user friendly.

This is a beautiful wah. Full & unique sqwah-ky vocal tone. Voiced in the vintage vein but definitely has its own sound. I pull back the little saw toothed arm and set the pot back to a more trebly position and fill it up by cranking the bass knob to fatten it up without having it too bassy.

Solid, original wah casing. Long lasting Fulltone pot.
The only thing you might need to bring is another battery. You'll be using it alot.

From what I've read there have been mixed feelings about Mr. Fuller and his correspondence. I have only sent an email or two and he has always been friendly and to the point. Busy man...I couldn't expect more.

Overall Rating : 10
To compare I have about 10 wahs in all. Jen (Fasel), vox(Halo{original Clyde McCoy}, Silver canister), Thomas Organ(stack of dimes) Dallas Arbiter(Fasel) & a Morgan Miller modded Thomas Organ (see glowing review). These wahs are very good to great sounding. If this sounds like alot...believe me there are guys around who have 50 or more(hey Tom). I have also owned various wahs by dunlop, vox and the Morley Bad Horsie(My favorite for high gain wah) the Teese RMC3 wah with the new pot and casing (see my review here on HC) & the Budda wah twice...another sweet wah that I'll probably own again.
I had shied away from the more expensive modern wahs thinking that they couldn't sound as good as my vintage gear. When I heard the Clyde I was dissapointed that this wah sounded so good. Not a dull sounding imitation of the old but a revamp of what makes a great wah great. Where most vintage wahs tend to lose some signal, the Clyde actually keeps it PHAT while giving a great, unique bark. Man what a wah.
You owe it to yourself to at least try it.

I've owned the vox, a crybaby, the digitech whammy wah(with like 7 different wahs), and a budda. The clyde slays them all(although the budda is also good). It cuts through the mix great. it is clear in the high and low end. There is no background noise at all. The internal trimmer is such a good thing. Dial in as much bass or treble as you'll ever need. Always appreciate the true bypass, it's a godsend.

I talked to Mike Fuller once with some general questions. He was polite and helpful. He seems to know his shit. Keep making kick ass pedals! Hey Mike, if you're reading this I have some ideas for you. No doubt they will kick ass if you make them. #1- An analog delay pedal. Come on man, you need it in your rig! #2 A Hi gain compressed distortion pedal for those freaky mid-scooping metalheads out there. I'm sure they have feelings too. #3- Ok I had the super tremolo, which was awesome, but then I discovered the dunlop tremolo volume pedal which is in a rocker pedal(like a wah). This way you can control the speed of the tremolo with your foot and get it in sync with the tempo of whatever tune you may be jamming on without having to squat and tweak knobs. I sold the super trem. It did sound better than the dunlop, but I liked the versatility of the rocker pedal. Mike, MAKE ONE OF THESE. Even add an expression pedal jack to the super trem. Just some friendly advice.

Overall Rating : 10
Ok, I too think it's cheesy to give a product straight up 10's, but what can I say. I spend so much money going through pedals, when I finally find something worthy of my rig(which is rare) I'm very grateful. So I'll give it to you Mike. You get an A++ and two gold stars. The best Wah pedal out there. Rock on. (get it? ha ha)

This sound is "it." When I first got it, I was scratching my head thinking that it was too bassy, too rich. Where's the pirecing highs??? What I was suffering from was: Too-much-exposure-to-bad-dunlop-pedals-syndrome. And I'm glad I'm cured. In a jam session with some friends, a guy said, "yeah that's the smoothest wah I've heard. Maybe you can modify it go get more highs..." What syndrome does this man have?? EBDPS! I would bet that the Teese is in the same league

My favorite wah sounds besides the obvious Hendrix/Cream records, are from Led Zeppelin I, and one of the Yardbirds last recordings; (with Page) Anderson Theatre NYC 3/30/68. So after listening to those things closer, I realized my brain was at fault and not the pedal. Oh, it also helps to have a proper amp to get the best out of your pedals. When I first started using it, my AB165 bassman had seen better days. I recently had it converted to a Fuchs Overdrive Supreme (along the lines of a dumble). And all my pedals sound way better.

Well I think we all know how to use a wah,but having said that, the on/off switch is a bit clicky, but very easy to adjust yourself if it gets annoying. The small bass-bias pot inside is great for tuning in your own sound, PLAY WITH IT!!!

I use the Clyde with the Fulltone Fulldrive 2,and Deja Vibe, Mesa- Boogie "Blue Angel", Fender and Schecter strats. So I'm set up for Texas/SRV blues, which is what I'm playing mainly. I have the bass-bias pot set at the 2o'clock position (old vox) and it sounds great. No other wah I've tried comes this close.

Great kit!! All of my Fulltone pedals do what I expect of them, other mainstream stuff may be more versatile, but thats only useful if you're playing different styles of music. Michael Fuller's pedals are not designed to be versatile. They are designed for people who know what they want. To this end, there is no better. It's no good to anyone, if you complain that a Fulltone pedal is not suited to this or that style of music; the people who buy them know why. Nuff Said? As far as the value for money is concerned, when you're out there on stage, making people happy, and you're having a great time too, killer-tone is priceless.

Normal Wha operation. It does offer an internal trim adjustment to
fine tune your sound. Anything else in a Wah is overkill. The only thing
I didn't like is the fact that the sweep of the pedal comes up to high
& threre is "dead space" in the sweep for about a 1/2 an inch before
the pedal engages/disengages. .A 1/2 an inch is a huge amount
in the world of wha sweep. Other then that it's a great design.

Sound Quality : 5
Here is where it got a little tweaky. I had an overwhelming high end
scratchiness regardless of where I set the trimmer. It was really frustrating.
I tried it through mulitple amps w/ mulitiple guitars & I had a few different
players test it out. The verdict was pretty much the same. The "Vox"
setting sounded nothing like a Vox & I was only able to get a good sound
out of the Clyde with the trim adjusted for a ton of bass. I use almost
exclusively Fulltone & other boutique pedals & I can only think of one
thing to say here. Overrated!!

Reliability : 5
Well seeing that the Clyde must have been screwed up when I got it,
(bought new @ Boston Guitar Works), I can't give a good rating here

I have always recv'd friendly & informative advice & help from Mr. Fuller

Overall Rating : 5
Okay, Let me start by saying that I am a dedicated Fulltone user. Now,
this is the second Clyde I have owned & the other one had a similar
problem with the scratchiness & annoying high end. When I was able
to dial in a useable sound it was anything but jaw-dropping. I a/b'd this
with other "high end" wahs & the others are at least as good at a fraction
of the cost. I think people are almost embarrased to give a less then
stellar review on something they just spent over $200 on.
Bottom line..........................sold on E-Bay!!

Not much to it. A Wah Pedal. The on/off switch takes a good deal of applied pressure which is good, I guess...It won't switch on or off by mistake although sometimes you think you've turned it on and you haven't. Such a complaint is somewhat subjective - once I've gotten used to it, I may prefer the switch the way it is.

Sound Quality : 10
Oh man, this is the best Wah pedal I have ever heard. I have used several Morley Wah's, a Dunlop, a mid 70's Crybaby, and the Vox and Coloursound reissues - this pedal puts them all to shame. The sweep range is fantastic. It gets low and gurgly or high and piercing. The stationary tones available are incredible. It truly does WAAAAAH unlike other newer pedals, like the Steve Vai Bad Horsie, which give more of a "wu" sound. I could see leaving this thing on all the time. Last night I heard Cream's Disraeli Gears - THAT is the sound you get with this pedal! I never could get that true late 60's Wah sound until now. The Clyde is a truly superior tone machine.

It seems pretty solid and sturdy. As noted I'm not totally cool on the on/off switch yet but we'll see after a while - not that I think it will break or anything....

I play blues, psychedelic, soul, funk - this baby fits it all. I've owned many many wah's over the years, some old, some reissues and this is absolutely hands down the BEST Wah I have ever heard (haven't tried a Bud-Wah). Yes, it is kinda ugly and says "Clyde" on the front which makes people ask stupid questions, but it sounds good enough to overcome those minor problems. It is expensive, though. Probably way too pricey for someone on a budget who only uses the effect now and then. But if you'll use it and you like CLASSIC tones, i.e. Hendrix, Cream, early Zep, this is the one to get!

This peadl is easy to use because a wah is a simple device but for me to get a tone I really liked out of it I had to tweak it. The only issue I had when adjusting the tone was the trim pot affects the amount of gain or volume. I like a bassier sound and setting it this way pumped up the signal.

Sound Quality : 9
My set-up is Jap Squire w/ Fralins>Clyde>Barber Dual Unit>Fulltone Fatboost>Dr. Z MAZ Jr.

I owned both the Teese RMC1 and Fulltone Clyde pedals briefly and AB'd them and this is what I found.

The RMC1 has a much thicker, bassier, complex tone than the Clyde. I loved the sound of the low frequencies but it didn't have much highend to speak of. While the RMC sounded thick the Fulltone sounded more hi-fi with a larger tonal sweep. Now the tonal sweep on the RMC is larger than say a crybaby because the pot used is tapered differently and thus gets a wider sweep on a shorter stroke. The Fulltone accomplishes the same (well slightly more) by utilizing more physical sweep. Each has its plusses and minuses. For instance the Fulltone is easier to use as a notch filter where you set the pedal at a particiular point and let it sit, this yields really cool notched lead sounds. While you can do the same on the RMC it is a little harder to find the tone you want since a little foot movement equals a lot of tone change. Now the RMC gets really radical wah sounds when you rock the pedal back and forth because you cover that tonal sweep in a smaller distance and to do this on the Clyde you have to rock your foot like mad. The true bypass of the Clyde is much more effective than the RMC. Now I am playing through a Dr. Z amp and it is very responsive so this might not be as apparent on other amps, but since I use the non-wah sound more than the with wah sound this was a significant decision factor for me. After looking at the build quality I think the Fulltone is an overall beefier design and I feel more confident about using it. All these things said I still had to listen to both pedals back and forth for about an hour before I made the decision to keep the Clyde. I have since tweaked the clyde (both the trim pot and the wah pot starting position) and really like it. When I play it through the Barber Burn Unit I get a tone reminiscent to Gary Howie's sp? solo material. But if you're on a budget I don't think you can go wrong with the RMC1 either. I am probably not being very helpful but I really think both products are great but for me the Fulltone had a slightly higher score at the end of the day.

Reliability : 10
Fulltone's designs are the beefiest I have ever seen on an effects pedal.

Customer Support : 9
Mike Fuller is very curt in his responses but at the end of the day he will stand behind his products 100%.

A wah..simple enough. Rock forward and with just a hair more pressure than if you were rocking it very vigorously, it turns on. This one is dated 2/98 and is number 247; it came with papers describing Mr. Fuller's quest for the ultimate wah; personally, I think he found the secret.

Sound Quality : 10
As I said, I believe this wah is the ultimate wah. The internal trimmer pot for gain/bass allows the unit's GREAT versatility. I use primarily strats through a 4x10 Deville. The effect is modeled after an old Vox, I believe; and, like I said, the internal trimmer allows for many sounds so dialing in any specific artist shouldn't be a problem for the slightly educated. I love this thing with it's brethren Fulltone pedals; it does great with a Fulldrive and watch out with a Dejavibe. I can't wait to try it with a Distortion Pro, and maybe even a Fat-Boost. I'm sure it would get even more raunchy with like a '69, '70, or Soul-Bender.

I play pretty much everything, but mostly am into the blues and rock stuff. This pedal suits it all. If it were lost or stolen, bet your money that I'd get another one a.s.a.p. Besides the tone, I love the fact that it's a Fulltone; for those of you that don't know, there's a certain peace of mind that comes with Fulltone Effects; as every musician knows, one less thing to worry about on stage is a gift from above. I think this wah is better than the acclaimed Budda because of it's tonal range, and simply because it's a Fulltone. This pedal is a true music-maker. All I can really say is, if you can front the dinero, do it; save save save those pennies! You know what I think would bea stretch, coming from Mr. Fuller's factory anyways, is something like a modified Wah with FUZZZZZ....interesante no? If you have any questions, feel free.

wah pedals are not difficult. the pressure with which you need to activate your wah can be adjusted by moving the switch up and down w/in the case. the manual for this pedal was extremely thoough, and well written. you can tell mike fulltone put a lot of time and effort into this pedal and his other effects.

Sound Quality : 10
I mainly play this unit with the a Les Paul, but i have been known to use my strat and a Godin SD. I play it all through a fender hot rod amp. I bought a vox reissue wah, which i thought was a spectacular wah, and played that for three years. when i tried the clyde, it completely blew it away in tone, clarity, and construction. it is far and away the best sounding wah i have ever heard. you can tweak your sound with the internal pot to your liking, providing a variety of tones. its very hot and exellent sounding. i have never heard another wah do what this thing does. i was guided to this after hearing Marc Ford and Rich Robinson of The Black Crowes. I also have a boss metal zone that i have in my signal chain. it doesn't sound very good with the clyde, but it is a bad sounding pedal all on its own. besides, pairing a Boss and a Fulltone are like oil and water. however, the clyde sounds better with the nasal zone than the vox did. sometimes the switch on the clyde makes a loud pop, but i think its mostly a grounding problem with one of my cables. i seemed to have eliminated it.

Reliability : 9
this is one solid piece of equipment. i always gig without a backup. i don't think anything could take it down. however, i have only had it for a half a year, and as we all know, time will tell.

i play hard rock, blues and jazz... this pedal suits my style very well, it is just what i was looking for. i have been playing for seven years. if it were stolen, i would definitely replace it, however, that might take a while, it is a pricey effect. I love the tones that come out of it (that's the main reason i bought it), the wide sweep of the pedal, which directly contributes to a wide tonal sweep. the one thing i don't like is that its ugly as sin. it has a great slip of non-slip stuff for your foot. this wah is hands-down better than any crybaby and vox wah. its definitely expensive, but if your tone is very important, and you frequently use a wah, then its a great buy, now only if it would help me get laid....

Simple to use, wah's are by nature simplistic. The only adjustment one can make is via a pot hidden in the case. This is not something you'd change often anyway. I did make an adjustment to mine (more later). Manual is clearly written.

I use humbucker-equipped guitars. USA Charvels, Jacksons, Les Paul, and PRS Custom 24. I adjusted the internal pot to dettune it. The pot if for increasing bass and gain (compensation for SC pickups) and it comes from the factory hot. I detuned mine about an eigth of a turn. Dialed right in first time! Wahs are a no brainer to use so I'll comment on the trim pot which you can turn by hand after taking the bottom cover off. Clockwise gives you more bass and gain (which I presume is to help out vintage strats and tele's). I have it set to about 2:00 looking at it from the bottom. I've been in a humbucker phase lately, so the 2:00 position, which he says in the manual is equivalent to a vintage vox, has less bass then Mike's hand drawn "arrow" at about 4:00. He probably tested the pedal with a strat on bridge p.u. which he likes to use for soloing (as per his equipment notes on his cd "days into years"). So when I get some kinmans for my strat, I will try the recommended postion again. (The current single coils are too noisy for the bars with neon signs I play in). Someone below complained about the way the foot switch works... To be honest, I didn't understand the complaint. When I got it, I found it very comfortable. Works better than a dunlop which I sometimes have trouble getting the switch to click.

Sound Quality : 9
Maybe 8.5?? But to be honest, it's probably me and not the pedal. I never played a real wah. I have two 80's crybaby's and had a dod optical thing which I rarely used then sold. Oh, and a few years a go I had the dunlop 535Q? and sold that after about 6 months. I have to admit, I had a lot of fun with the old crybabys, but once I got used to true bypass I could never gig with one again. When I play the clyde by myself, I do pickup on the Cream/Hendrix vibe and it is the best wah *I* ever played. The first couple of times at gigs I got buried in the mix when using it. It was probably the rest of my settings, and the fact I had the gain/bass set at 4:00 and was using humbuckers. I had better success with a little less gain, and the trim pot at 2:00. I may upgrade this to a 10 later down the road as my taste in tone and equipment grows. This "sport" is very much like golf which I drive myself crazy with trying to improve. I love it.

Reliability : No Opinion
I'll get back to the database on this in two or more years. So far so good, don't foresee any problems though.

Customer Support : 9
I bought mine used and asked Mike for an electronic copy of the manual and he got it to me within minutes. Sometimes a little strange to deal with via email... I would guess he's the mysterious, dry sense of humor type (a Monty Python fan perhaps?).

Overall Rating : 9
I'm looking forward to an all-boutique, true bypass tone board. And I'm about half way there. My next purchase will be a univibe, and I am up in the air over the deja or the Rx. Now thinking about it, I have a boss analog delay at the end of my chain, and will test the clyde at the next gig with the delay totally out of the chain. The boss pedal could be sucking tone, and was one of the reasons for buying the clyde in the first place.

I guess here's where I have to be honest with my opinion. First, Mr. Fuller makes an outstanding Wah pedal. Hands down. It's packaged neatly, all the wires and parts are definetely assembled with great care prior to shipment. I was really impressed with it! I used a G&L Legacy Special and a '76 Marshall Super Lead to try it out. Sound quality is great. I have a Teese RMC3 and Mr. Fullers is quite comparable. I feel Mr. Teese has done his homework a bit more then Mr. Fuller in the richness of the sound, but you have to have a feel for music beyond the normal club scene player or weekend money maker to notice it. I know what sound Mr. Fuller was attempting to emulate and I think he came very close to that. Jimi use a '68 Chicago made Thomas Organ Wah to record Voodoo Child and this pedal comes real close to that sound. I happen to know who has that pedal but he does not want to part with it since it was a gift from Jimi's Engineer. As far as Stevie's Say What sound, you have to use 2 wahs in tandam to get it, that's how he did it! So, rethink your thinking kiddies about one pedal doing it all,....but, this pedal is very close to that sound! I think that's as fair as it comes. The only Wah pedal that tops them all is still a vintage Clyde McCoy. Some of them just have that creamy, rich, vocal, cry to them that makes your mouth drop,....it's in a class by itself. NO ONE has topped it yet as far as I have heard! I think this rating is as fair as it comes.

Reliability : 10

I feel Mr. Fuller would stand by his product. I've never had to send anything back to him so far. I feel 8 is more than fair unless I experienced a problem, of which I haven't to this day.

Overall Rating : 7
My style of music I prefer is clasic rock/blues. I do like some of the newer styles such as Metallica, Creed, Candlebox, but the old rock has got the feel (bands like Korn will wear out their welcome soon). I know my rating is low overall but, the price is not!!! It's a really nice pedal, but it's too much money. I don't feel I can tell someone they are getting a real deal here or the "best of the best" either, ok?! If this was the best, my rating would be higher. Don't get me wrong, it's a really great pedal and some want to make it out to be priceless item, but it is not the best. Ask anyone who shelled out $450 to $600 to buy that great sounding Clyde McCoy, if they want to part with it? Most will say no. I'm not into debates about it, but I won't be like the other chickens**t Anonymous people,...my e-mail is posted if you have questions.

Pretty easy to use. Just step on to activate, and wah to your heart's content. The only semi-complicated thing about this unit is the small pot on the inside to adjust the flavor of the wah to your taste.

Sound Quality : 10
The Clyde sounds great. Actually, it is the best sounding wah I've ever heard or tried. I tried one on a trip to Chicago and was knocked out by the tone and range of the unit. It has a wider sweep than most wahs, and sounds great low to high. I personally did not care for the marked spot on the pot inside my wah -too midrangy without enough low end depth. Once I adjusted it, it sounded better than the unit I tried in Chicago (but did not have the cash at the time). I own 2 other wahs - a Budda and an older chrome Dunlop 4 posistion 535. They both sound great, but the Clyde is far superior in feel and sound. Mike Fuller hit a home run with this one.

Reliability : 10
Fulltone products are incredibly well built. I do gig without a backup.

I am in a rock/r&b/jazz band that plays some great music that other bands stay away from. I use this wah with a Victoria Double Deluxe (try this amp, it's tone for days!) I would replace this wah if it were stolen and would recommend it to anyone, even though it's a little pricey.

Any wah pedal's usability comes down to its switch. It's a simple enough device to use, but it's a bummer when you get to the end of a solo and don't get the thing to switch off properly. The Clyde's switching works beautifully. And when it's switched off, there isn't any drag on your tone. I've worn out two crybabys over the years, and the first thing to go is always the switch. And there's no getting around the fact that when a crybaby is turned off, it's never really off. It sucks all the lows and highs from your tone. And it doesn't have much of a range of sweep, as does the Clyde.

Sound Quality : 9
To my mind, the wah pedal is most functional when used with a stratocaster, or a guitar with a similar tonal range--using single coil pickups. And the Clyde is outstanding with mine. I haven't felt the need to adjust the internal control. Maybe I would if I was using the les paul exclusively, but I'm not. My '74 strat (with warmoth neck, duncan antiquity/lindy fralins, shielded cavity, graphite nut) sings with the Clyde like I'd never heard it before. I've become quite a fan of fulltone products, and the Clyde works very nicely in conjunction with the Fulldrive 2 and Ultimate Octave. I'm either using an old boogie combo, or I'm going direct with a Line6 POD, and it's been fun using the Clyde with some of the vintage Marshall models to see how it sounds with them. I'm sure Mike Fuller would consider this heresy, but sorry Mike, I don't have a stable of vintage plexis and echoplexes like you do. For now, this will have to do. And, it's doing very nicely. It sounds great whether I'm running it into the real tube amp, or into the virtual ones.

Reliability : No Opinion
Lifetime warranty. For $300, I not only expect the warranty to be honored, I expect it to be unnecessary. It's a very well-made unit. I don't expect problems.

Customer Support : 10
Mike is very hands-on. He answers phone calls, e-mails, even stays in touch on the various newsgroups. I had a question a few months ago to which I received two different replies--one from Mike and one from another guy at Fulltone. What more could you expect?

Overall Rating : 9
Just a note to some of the other reviewers who mentioned having some problems......if it's making a weird noise, it's probably a dead battery. Wahs make weird noises when the battery goes dead. If you're bothered by the clicking of the metal switch, turn up your amp. Metal clicks when it touches other metal. That's what's so cool about wah pedals--they're mechanical and tactile. Anyway, I waited a while before reviewing this pedal. I was nervous about spending this kind of money on a wah, but I'm happy I did. If a wah-wah isn't part of your style, I see no reason to fork over this much cash, but if it is, look at it as a lifetime investment. If you just play for fun, and are not super-particular about your tone, then go ahead and get a crybaby, but if you care about tone and your overall sound, then this is the pinnacle. If Jimi was alive today, he'd have one too.

This pedal is incredibly easy to use if you want just plug it in toe tap and rock the pedal so that is sounds musical. Or if you want to mess with the sound there is an internal pot to change the bass. I have two fulltone pedals and have messed with the internal pots with both,But I always put it back to the place where Mike Fuller left it. I get nervous messing with the innards of any piece of equipment but to my surprise it was no big deal at all and if you remember where the pot was before you moved it you can always get it to sound like when you bought it

Sound Quality : 9
I use this pedal with a fulltone soulbender fuzz, a boss Ds-2 or Ds-1 distortion, a script logo MXR Phase 90 phasor, and a line 6 dl-4 delay pedal. A lot of people won't mix boutique pedals (like the fulltone's) and mass produced boxes (like the boss Ds-1 and 2) but I use what I like and to my ears the clyde and the boss and pedals sound great together even thought the bosses aren't true bypass. the clyde is not noisy at all and the wah sounds are very smooth. On clean it sounds really funky and on distortion it doesn't sound sterile or generic it retains its personality even through thick distortion. I use it with a 1978 marshall superlead. I am a huge mick ronson (Bowie and Mott the Hoople) and dave davies (Kinks) fan but I play mostley spacey music like pink floyd, space needle and Mazzy Star. It is great for both rock and spacey music

Reliability : 9
The pot is a very high quality part at the website it says how many turns it could take, it was a high number which means it probably won't wear out for a long time. I never play out but if I ever did I would do so without a backup I believe it is very dependable if it broke than I would just be out a wah for the night (and fulltone would fix it for free) it would be different for a fuzz or distortion where a backup is a must.

Customer Support : 9
Mike fuller is the best He alway's responds in a day, so I have to constanty fight the impulse to bother him with stupid questions. If the pedals brakes and has not been abused than fulltone will fix it

I have been playing for 9 years and I do a lot of recording in my little home studio. I have tried vox reissue wahs and I have owned a crybaby and a mr crybaby and I didn't know I was missing anything till I tried the clyde it is a really sweet sounding wah and it runs laps around the other wahs I tried. If it were stolen I would buy a new one as soon as my budget would allow. Also this doesn't mean anything but I really dig the name.

I bought mine new, liked the crybaby, tried various others, but my biggest complaint with wahs has always been being assured you've activated it when you step on it. No such problem with the Clyde, rock forward it goes on, doesn't click off when you use it. I don't feel like I'm fighting the rubber feet to turn the thing on, and in the middle or beginning of a solo I don't want to worry that I've stepped hard enough.

Sound Quality : 9
I like the sound of the Clyde, has a good voice, I'm not a big wah user, maybe 15% of our music calls for it, but when I need it, I need it. This one has a good sweep, not too bright, bass stays tight, and it's adjustable in this regard. A bit noisy when engaged, but most wahs are. I use it with a variety of amps, mostly I use it for signature songs (metallica, GNR, etc) where a wah is necessary. I gave it a 9 cause I'm not a wah aficionado, but it sounds good to me.

Reliability : 1
Here's the bad part. Something about this wah, don't know what, but after about an hour of use the thing will emit this loud "ground loop" type of hum. It won't start doing this right off, but sporadically happens, or has happened, in the middle of a set. It's not something to live with, it's incredibly noisy when it occurs. I sent the unit back to fulltone explaining the problem, it was sent back with no explanation of repair/no repair. I started using it again and the problem resurfaced. I replaced it with the crybaby, absolutely no problems at all. I called Mike Fuller, he was, as one other reviewer noted "terse but helpful", good words, I felt like I was really bothering him trying to work out this problem with a near $300 wah. He made some suggestions, none of which has worked, and I have tried changing everything imaginable. I'm back to my crybaby, and the wah is on its way to Fulltone. So this gets a 1, "it worked once".

Customer Support : 3
See above. I really felt like I was bothering the guy, maybe it was my perception. Sound is very important to me, and so is spending that kind of money for a wah wah pedal.

Overall Rating : No Opinion
This is a super easy to use wah, sounds great, but I had a big problem with mine that I really feel should have been solved long ago, if nothing else then in the form of a new wah. Don't know if I'd recommend it or not; I know I wouldn't buy another right now. If this problem gets solved correctly I'll update.

using a 57 reissue with fralin pu's into a ts9 modded to 808 specs into a dimed super reverb i a/b'd this with 2 Teese RMC3's. I had the internal knob dimed for the most agressive sound possible. this pedal sounds incredible. i prefered the sound of the CLyde over one of the teese wahs but the other had this unbelievable agressiveness and throatyness to it that could not be matched by the fulltone. Both are amazing however. I walked out of the store empty handed cos im waiting on a used teese to come back from Teese himself who is setting it up at the moment. If the used one sounds as amazing as the agressive one i tried, im gonna get it. If not ill get the fulltone cos it was also very very good.

I've held off writing this review for a year so I could put this pedal through it's paces and give an honest review. I have to admit that this is the best Wah pedal I have ever played through. It isn't cheap by any means but it is a high quality product that is definately a keeper. You may have read my review on the Thomas Wah - yeah, I'm the guy that trashed that pedal (and you'd agree if you heard mine). In the past I owned a old Colorsound Wah which I cringe whenever I think about how I let that one go. I also own a Vox reissue (which is almost 1/3 the price of the Fulltone Clyde). The Vox is a great pedal as well. It seems to have a lower end growl that I really like. Mike Fuller's Clyde has an incredible range - mostly on the higher end which I have never heard with any other wah. It is very full and vocal sounding. When I first got the Clyde I was messing around with the internal trimmer a lot because I just could not quite get the sound I expected. It turned out to be a bad patch cable. A pair of wire cutters fixed that problem. Now I keep the trimmer just where Mike set it. But it says a lot for this pedal that it could compensate for a shitty cable by messing with the internal trimmer. Is this pedal worth the almost $300? I think so. To me it's like a Porche vs a Volkswagon. Both will get you to the grocery store but you'll probably take the scenic route with the first. I have never spoken with Mike Fuller but I may because I am real interested in his new Deja Vibe II. I also bought the 69 pedal several months ago - still putting that through its paces.

There is one thing about this pedal that bothered me from the beginning: The treadle hits the switch that activates the pedal before it hits the bumpers. This results in a clicking sound that bugs me. All of the conventional wahs that I have used have the switch set up so you hit the bumpers, then compress the bumpers to activate the switch. I emailed Mike to see if there was a way around this problem. He replied promptly, but to my disappointment, all he said was "NO CAN DO" Prompt but useless.

I have been playing guitar for twenty six years, and I have accumlulated quite an arsenal of instruments and effects including two other Fulltone pedals that are rock solid. I bought the Clyde without trying it out. (STUPID ME) The Clyde Wah is a beautifully crafted pedal, that gives great tones to my music, BUT...I am very disappointed with the way the treadle hits the switch every time you rock the pedal foreward. Has anyone else experienced this? I spent the BIG BUCKS on a wah pedal and I got something I don't want to use.

It's a simple wah pedal. Push to turn on, push to turn off. It also has a pot inside that you can adjust to tailer your sound (more bass or treble).

Sound Quality : 9
I'm using an Ibanez Custom Shop (2 HBs) to a Fender Hot Rod Deville (2x12). The wah (much like the FD2) is very, very transparent. When I step on it, I can tell it's turned on but it doesn't color the tone so much that it becomes something else entirely. This pedal replaced a Dunlop Mr Super Crybaby because the Dunlop was noisy, not true bypass (sucked tone), and had an range in the sweep that produced a very annoying sound. This pedal has a wider sweep range and does not have that annoying spot (too much treble and feedback when sound is distorted). The effect is subtle so it might not be for everyone, but it works for me.

Reliability : No Opinion
All steal construction... this pedal is solid! So far, no problems (only a month of so though).

Haven't had to use their customer support for this product yet (but did for the Fulldrive II).

I play various styles. I mainly use the wah for funk, some rock/metal leads (Metallica style), and special effect. It suits everything I do from clean wahs to distorted sounds. However, because it's kind of subtle, you may find it to be lacking with those metal leads. I find that a controlled sweep of the foot (not too fast, not too slow) produces the best and most noticable sounds.

It's as easy as any other wah pedal to use with the addition of varying your tone with an internal trim pot. Plug in a cord out to your amp, and your ready to go.
If your picky on your tone, it may take a few minutes of pulling off the back and tweaking the internal trim pot. But other than that, it's a snap to use.

Sound Quality : 10
This unit is very quiet. I am using it basically with my 62 RI Strat into a few other Fulltone Pedals, mainly just the Fulldrive 2 some nights I get crazy and hook up the Soulbender, Dejavibe, Fulldrive, and this for fooling around at jams, leaving almost endless ideas to explore. I then run into either a non master Silver Face Super Reverb (modified to 2-10" speakers) or a Gretsch 6159 ( I believe ) 2-12" speakers aprox. 30-35 watts.
It is a really great wah pedal. I haven't tried an original Vox Clyde but I have played through a couple of Thomas Organ era Crybaby's and There is so much more range in the tonal sweep in this peadal, plus it's adjustable. You can adjust the bassiness or brightness of this pedal with the internal control. You even have room to use a marker to indicate favorite positions!
For the little Wah use that I do, this is the best wah for my own personal use.

Reliability : 9
I've used mine 3-4 times a week for about three months now and Have not had a problem with this pedal electronics wise. I do however have a lead foot when I step down a wah pedal, and the rubber feet on this pedal started to peel away. I noticed that they were taller than other fulltone pedal feet, so I swapped them with the one's on my soul bender. Problem solved.

Customer Support : 10
Mr. Fuller has always responded to my questions promptly, and curteously. I had trouble with my Fulldrive 2 about a month back. ( a pot had started to go bad after 2 years of use) and he got back in touch with me within an hour of my e-mail to him. And had the problem fixed with in a week. !! try that with the fender company. I know!

Overall Rating : 10
This would probably be the wah pedal I would buy if I This were stolen. I bought it before trying it being that I already owned a few other fulltone pedals, and was very happy with his products I figured go with what and who you know. This pedal has done and lived through everything I need it to.

This is a revision of my earlier review on this pedal. I'll add comments in sections I wish to expand on, otherwise my earlier opinions will stand.
Manufactured 11/98. As easy to use as any wah wah is.

Sound Quality : 7
I have trouble getting a clear sound out of this pedal with three of my six guitars. These guitars have a *very* dark natural sound and humbucking pickups, and I think this is translated through the CLYDE to produce an unpleasant mid-rangy quality. With my single coil pickups, the CLYDE sounds great. It also sounds great with a bridge humbucker in an ash-body guitar.
I did not particularly like the "VOX notch" position Fulltone marks on the internal adjustment pot. I've got a real, early 70s VOX wah, however, and I think I just got a particularly good one of those.
I have to go with my personal experience on this, and with my equipment I can't give the CLYDE a 10.

Reliability : 10
I bought the unit in December 1998, and it's worked since then. I don't use a wah a lot. I just don't trust the darned things, I guess, given that using them is how you wear the pot out.
I'd gig it without a backup--even if a wah failed on me, it's not a big part of what I do.

Customer Support : 6
Here, sadly, is where it gets weird. My previous e-mail contact with Fulltone has been OK--if you wrote to ask advice on how to use an effect, you'd get a prompt, sometimes terse, always helpful, reply.
In my experience, however, Fulltone can get more than a little hostile when you report having a problem with the unit. For example, Fulltone contacted ME about my previous review of the CLYDE--saying that if I had a problem with it then the problem was with me or my equipment, not the CLYDE.
But my unpleasant experience aside, in all fairness it's clear that Fulltone believes strongly in its products, and replies by e-mail (that's the only way I've talked to them) are prompt and to the point.
For previous support, they get a 10--for anticipated future support, they get a 1; I'll round it up and give 'em a 6.

Overall Rating : No Opinion
All my other wahs have been very old VOXes (VOXen?) and Crybabies, which have always been great. The CLYDE seems as good to me as any of those do, with the exception of a single "magic" VOX I've still got--and which sounds great with ALL my guitars.
My personal problems with Fulltone aside, they make good stuff. I'm not saying this to try to patch things up, either: I didn't keep everything I bought of theirs, but it wasn't because it was poorly made. That's just an undeniable fact. IMO, Fulltone effects deserve to be high on the list of anyone considering top-of-the-line signal modification equipment.
Support's a little dicey. They might consider hiring someone to do it that knows how to bite his or her tongue.
I'm going to check out a Roger Mayer wah replacement kit, though, to see if I can resolve the problem I'm having with the CLYDE and my particular humbucking guitars.
I'm going to No-Opinion the rating here. It's only fair.

Wah pedals are easy to use badly, and not too hard to use well. Regardless of how well *you* use one, they all work 'bout the same way.

Sound Quality : 7
This is a good wah for single coil pickups. You have to diddle the internal pot to avoid an unpleasant sounding mid-range spike--but then, the single coils don't sound as great. The pre-marked spot which Fulltone claims nails the Vox sound, well, doesn't wow me.

Reliability : 8
Since I don't use the wah as a primary effect, sure, I'd gig without a backup. It seems as reliable as any other wah I've used (old Vox and very old Crybaby, mainly). The only reason I score it a 9 is because I don't completely trust any effect whose pot could wear out in mid song. Using the effect is what wears it out, in other words.

Customer Support : 9
Mike Fuller is responsive via e-mail, albeit terse and not completely receptive to any implication that there are situations for which one of his effects isn't all that great (e.g., I don't think the pedal sounds very good with humbuckers, personally.)

Overall Rating : No Opinion
I play rock-funk-jazz, whatever the hell that might be. If it were stolen, I might get an old MXR Envelope Filter--or look into the Roger Mayer wah, which I've heard good things about. Or, I might do the true bypass hack to my early 70s Vox, and not spend anything else on an effect which I only occasionally use.

Best wah sound I have yet to play through with a much wider sonic range...much more vocal...the wah sweeps lower and higher than my old Morley and Cry Baby...also quieter and the gain is adjustable...my other wahs were limited when using the neck pickup on all of my guitars...now I can wah and get as warm as I want.

Wonderful is an understatement!
The first Clyde I received didn't work at all. I called Mike Fuller and he sent a replacement out the same day, second day air at his expense and paid my return postage too! He had recently learned of a small batch of CLYDE's which had been sent out with faulty switches. Needless to say, he is no longer using that switch vendor. He even included his cd, "Days into Years" which btw, has some wonderfully tonal and tasty guitar work recorded by Mike in his studio. I have spoken with him on several occasions since, and he is always a gentleman, never failing to answer my questions...

No problems with noise. Has to go first in the chain next to the guitar of course. Works great in conjunction with the Fender Deville 2 X 12 and Fulldrive 2. Working on getting the 70' pedal and Clyde sound right. May need a Marshall to even discuss this combintation.

Built tough. Ready for battle and not taking prisoners.

Mike Fuller is the man. He is a kind person that stands behind everything he makes. No beef here whatsoever.

A little pricey for a WAH. Well worth the investment however. Tunes are just flying out of this. Shaft and shaft's revenge and shaft goes to Africa. Right on! I'd rather fight than loose this puppy.

Real easy, just plug it in and go. After all it's a Wah-Wah. No brain surgery required, just a little foot-eye coordination and rhythm. The adjustable gain control is set and need not be messed with. Ever. In fact the gain control is inside the unit and need not even be looked at.

Sound Quality : 10
Ah, here's the pay off. Imagine your favorite recorded wah sound. Now get a Clyde and that sound will be yours. Beats the hell out of the Cry Baby and Vox Wahs. Set the internal gain control for more throat and less nose or vice versa.
This baby is true bypass as well and wont drag down your signal chain when turned off.
Quietest wah around.
Note that the travel in the pedal and pot is longer than the common wah. Meaning that you can emulate Hendrix or go further into realms never imagined by a wah before.

Very heavy guage steel. Very solid feel. Inside it looks nice and roomy, not shoved in like the robots in Korea do it.
I do gig without a backup. I'll give it a nine for reliability though because in ten years or so I'll probably wear out the pot.

Customer Support : 10
I think Fulltone will stand behind it. It includes a limited lifetime warrenty. When I picked it up from the workshop of the manufacturer he (Mike Fuller) seemed quite reasonable and I believe he'll fix it if it breaks from anything other than extreme abuse.

Overall Rating : 10
I beleive this is the best wah available. I won this one in the Fulltone Clyde giveaway, but had I known how it sounds I would not have settled for any other wah.
If it ever gets stolen (I'll never let it get away elsewise) I'll have to buy another Clyde or be wahless.
Pricey at $280 (or $265 maybe) but the only thing out there for wah purists.

This is easy as pie. Plug in. Step on it. Short 3 page insert as owners manual. Gives background on R&D Michael did on Vox Wahs.

This is the best sounding wah going IMHO. I tried the Teese RMC, Budda, all the flavors of the Dunlop & Vox reissues (I owned a Vox for 3 years, had 2 or 3 Dunlops over the years), and the Morley stuff. The smoothest sounding wah I have ever heard. Has a silent on/off switch and true bypass. Voiced to sound like original Vox's, trim pot inside gives much variation to work with. Michael Fuller personally tests all units and marks what he feels is the sweet spot. Nice touch. The range of the sound is much wider than with competing units, the treadle throw is much wider. Smooth sounding is the best description I can come up with.

Reliability : 10
Fuller had a new housing designed and created to house unit, it is heavy duty. I do gig without backup and haven't thought twice about it.

Have called Michael Fuller on numerous occasions, he always answers. He seems distracted sometimes, but always takes care to answer questions and offer suggestions. Very responsive to email too.

I play rock/alternative/funk/blues/folk/jazz in an original rock band. I use wah for quite a few things. From the "shaft" type of playing to just generating leslie sounding stuff, this pedal nailed it. I play PRS --> Rivera amps and this wah fits perfect. The true bypass is so nice live, tone is good with pedal on and with pedal off. If I ever had it ripped off or lost, I'd run screaming to the nearest dealer and get one. I will never need another wah, unless I wear this one out. It is hand built using heavy duty construction, so I do not anticipate that ever happening. I usually got 3-5 years from Dunlop wahs in the past. The pot in this wah is rated for 150% more turns, so that should last me a good long time. With Fulltone's customer service and the quality he put in this pedal, I checked out other Fulltone pedals. I now have a Deja Vibe and a Supa Trem. I also have a custom pedalboard/roadcase and power supply coming from Fulltone. Major vote of confidence from me.

Simple, one knob on the inside controls, gain and bass response. The treadle is adjustable so if you like the action light or heavy you can adjust it.

I've finally found a wah that I like, I've tried the dunlop 535, Vox reissue, Morley, Kern Tube Wah, Snarling dogs whine-o-wah, and even the Teese Real McCoy and the I liked the Fulltone the best. Has the most vocal sound out of all the others in my opinion.

Reliability : No Opinion
Haven't had it long enough to comment but the inside is THE cleanest looking interior of a wah I have ever seen. The chassis is not like other wahs, this is a steel box which appears very sturdy.

Customer Support : 10
Mike always takes the time to talk to customers on the phone. Great service.

Yea, I'd buy it again, I've searched long and hard for a wah I like and this is it. The only issue would be the cost, at $265 it is one of the most expensive wah's out there.

Ease of use...Come on, it's a Wah pedal! Ready to Wah right out of the box. The Clyde comes with a well written and very informative 2 page info./instruction pages. You will know a lot more about what goes on inside of a wah pedal when you read them. The unit sounded good right away. Micahel Fuller sets the adjustable gain trimmer at the factory to his liking and it ended up being fairly close to the setting I ended up with.

Sound Quality : 10
Using a Strat into a Fender Twin with the Clyde and a Fulldrive2. (amongst other goodies..) To be honest, the Clyde sounded nice the first few times I played through it but I did not fully grasp how good it sounded until I compared it side by side with my 2 Crybaby Wahs. My ear was so trained to hear the Crybaby's sound that I did not fully pick up the Clyde's difference unitl I had them together. Then it became obvious how much better the Clyde sounded. The Clyde has much more of a tonal range and can produce a much more pronounced "Wah" sound. This might be due in part to the Clyde's larger pedal sweep. The treadle (the part your foot rests on..) has a much larger travel range than other Wahs I have owned and played. This seems to contribute to the greater tonal spectrum. The internal adjustable trimmer, which can be used to make minor gain adjustments, was easily accessed. The high end of the gain selection tended to add a bit of distortion to my clean Wah sound when I would used a heavy pick attack so I simply found the setting that allowed the most gain with no breakup. Can you achieve the classic Wah sound of "Rainy day, Dream Away" and "Soul to Soul"? - Put simply - If you can deliver your end of the bargain the Clyde can deliver the sound!

Reliability : 10
The Clyde looks to be built every bit as well as all the Fulltone products. Solid construction with a cool look. Would gig without a back up.

Customer Support : 10
The pedal made a strange clicking noise halfway thru the sweep. I thought I was hearing things until my wife asked if it was supposed to make that sound. I Emailed Mike and he suggested I try a few things. When that did not help he asked me to send it to him at his expense. He called me and of course the pedal stopped clicking at his house! Michael went ahead and replaced the part that would have the greatest chance of causing the mystery click and sent it right back. His service and limited lifetime warranty are among the best in the business! The pedal stopped the clicking and has worked great ever since.

Overall Rating : 10
Overall - if you are hunting for the classic Wah sound it's here! The Clyde sounds great and is a well thought out pedal. Damn near everything that could be adjustable is. It's certainly not an inexpensive purchase, but the "best" seldom is. The superior sound and Michael Fuller's service make a hard to beat combination. I highly recommend this pedal.

This is the best sounding wah wah you have ever heard. It's very vocal and clear.

Sound Quality : 10
this is what all the other wah wahs' wish they could be. It even puts the orginal Vox Clyde McCoy to shame(or to rest). You cannot get a bad sound outa this

Reliability : 10
It's a Fulltone.......needless to say it's bullit proof in a much better housing than the dunlop stuff. You can also adjust the pedal tension. If you dropped this off a ten story building it would still work. It's also low profile like the old Voxes and Supa-Wah(Marshall made)

What can I say.......It's the best wah wah I ever heard or played. It really put all the others to shame, even my old Vox and my reissue(modded)Vox. You will never ever hear or use a better wah period. Very musical, vocal and inspiring.
