This does not require a Masters in Electrical Engineering. Step on the very stout switch, select the sound you desire, adjust the speed with the pedal. Very easy to use. Very effective in use

Sound Quality : 9
Ture bypass, no noise. I set this up first in my effects chain. It is followed by a cry baby, tubescreamer, Lovetone Brown Source and a volume pedal. I get the best true uni-vibe sound using this pedal with my strats or my tele, through my 65 Super Reverb. When I plug in my Les Pauls and play this through my Marshall combo, I usually stop immediatly and go back to the Strats & The Super. The sound gets muddy (in my opinion) when used with Pauls or Marshalls. However, the uni-vibe sound screams through the Fender equipment and brings back the days of old. This is such an important weapon in my arsenal. The key here is to avoid being a 16 year old with his/her first pedal, and using it for every song. Be select, less is more, and all that other advisory BS. Whewn you need that Hendrix, Trower, SRV vibe- this pedal has IT.

Reliability : 10
This one beefy pedal. I do not worry about stomping it to hard, dropping it, running over it with a hummer, having a thremo-nuclear bomb go off on it. This thing will outlast me.

I love this pedal. I have been playing for 35 years and I have played on every typr of guitar, through every type of amp and have owned pedals that today would fetch me thousands of dollars. This is no BS- I once drove to gigs in a 57' Chevy convertable, playing a 64 Strat through a BLONDE Band Master, Using a Clyde McCoy Vox Waa, and a DA fuzz. I remember sellin all that stuff in 69' cos it was old and I heard transistors were the way to go. ( I said I was old, not smart) This pedal rules. It is a must. It is pricey, but not when you consider what you're getting for your money. I mean after all, what do you want, the perfect steak, or the double cheeseburger for $.99

I'm a fussy old guy who has been playing a long time. I use several different guitars, mostly strats, through a 50 watt Plexi reissue. I have a couple of tunes in my repertoire that could really benefit from the Univibe sound: Little Wing and Cold Shot. I bought both the top-rated clones, the Deja Vibe 2 with integral foot pedal and the Prescription Electonics Vibe Unit for a mini shootout. The Deja Vibe arrived first, and it is a very nice piece of craftsmanship. The hammered metal finish is very attractive and the switches are beefy. The unit is signed by Fuller on the bottom. Nice to see good old American pride in manufacturing a top-quality product. The unit comes with an AC power cord, too, which may or may not suit your setup. The treadle changes the speed of the sweep from slow to fast as you rock it forward. I plugged the unit in and was pleased with the sound. It's got a vintage or modern rocker switch that changes the output level a bit. There isn't a bad sound to had from this unit. The only major gripe I have is that the pedal is very short throw when it gets up to the higher speeds. In order to nail Cold Shot, you've got to have the vibrato going at just the right speed, and this was almost impossible to dial in, owing to the very short travel at the fast end.
The Prescription Electronics Vibe Unit arrived a week later direct from PEI in beautiful Portland, Oregon, at the full retail price of $299, you can't buy one in a store, apparently. PE wants to keep a small operation and eliminate the middle man, at least on that model. Fine with me. The Vibe Unit is a white box indifferently finished in white enamel. Utilitarian, but not artistic. The footswitch is a somewhat delicate looking piece compared to the Fulltone item, but I don't intend to jump up and down on it in a frenzy any time soon, so it'll probably hold up for my purposes. I pulled out my SRV "war club" strat for the purpose of finding the elusive Cold Shot magic. This is a custom built Warmoth parts guitar with a massive reverse boat neck and jumbo frets loaded with Texas Specials and tuned down to E flat with substantial strings. Upon firing the Vibe Unit up, I was pleased to find that the speed dial gave a much longer taper, so I was able to dial in my tempo with relative ease. On Cold Shot, the intensity at setting ten proved to be a little over the top, so I backed it down to about six. I was also smiling broadly by this time, because goodness gracious, this thing has GOT THE JELLY! It has the *exact* sound you want when spending big bucks for a vibe unit. As noted by others, the sound of this pedal feels like an integral part of your tone, not a grafted-on overlay. There is no specification for this, it's a sense of organic unity that either happens or doesn't. A mysterious and difficult quest, requiring a lot of listening tests. The fellow who built this pedal has got the ear for the task at hand, no question about it. I have not heard any original Univibes, and thus will award this unit a 9, based on the possibility that there may be an even more thrilling oldie out there. But I doubt it.
The difference between the Deja Vibe and the PE item, which actually sound quite similar at first listen, seems to be the start of the sweep. The Deja Vibe, or at least my sample, makes a thumping sound at the beginning of the upswell, which sounds something like "wubba wubba." The PE pedal has a much smoother lead-in, more like "wuwwa wuwwa," with the result that your phrases seem more springy and allow the riffs to kind of launch on their own. It has that much sought-after feelgood factor that can only be had from tone that is harmonically aligned. Buy one now if you want the sound.

Ease of Use : 10
The pedal is shaped like a wah pedal, for pedal speed control and has 1 rotary 'Intensity' knob on the top left corner. There is an on/off bypass footswitch located on the left heel(with LED on top left) , directly above it are a choice of Modern/Vintage and Chorus/Vibrato. The housing is 16 gauge welded steel, very tough. Very simple to use, either turn it on and move from speed to speed or leave it at specific position. No need for manual, but manual gives you mainly directions of what to do if pedal is damaged. The only upgrade to this model is a (stereo) version.

Sound Quality : 10
I am using this with a Fender 'Roadhouse' stratocaster, an Ibanez 'ts-09', Zoom '509'(soley for distortion), Boss OD-3, and Vox wah, going into a Fender 'Super' amp. The 'Deja-2' is noiseless, and comes with a hardwire bypass(no signal loss). It can give anyone the 'vibe' "tone" of 'Hendrix' and countless others. My current effects line up other than the 'Deja-2' are just 'holdovers' until I decide on a choice of quality 'longrun' effects. Even with these effects, the 'Deja-2' can still give me the tone I want to 'Replicate'(from Jimi, Trower, etc..) or invent. The pedal makes a beautiful ' 60's/70's ' tone, when between an 'OD-3' and 'Tubescreamer'(with Tubescreamer 1st from guitar, used a boost). It gets the best 'Uni-vibe' tone with the majority of the gain after it, from the guitar. The 'Deja-2' is the best quality combined with ease of use, 'vibe' unit I have ever heard.

Reliability : 10
I have a quote for this pedal "So far, so good, so what?". My answer to that is - the 'Deja-2' has a 5 year warranty, and is built like an important piece of construction equipment. It has a fuse replacment on the outer left corner and a detachable 3-prong plug(not a usual AC adapter). I would use it on a gig without a backup, due to it's quality construction and features. This pedal was well mapped out, before put on the market.

Customer Support : 10
This company has the best customer support, I have EVER even heard stories about. I am NOT exaggerating, and I think that Mike Fuller(Fulltone) should get an award for his customer service. I bought my 'Deja-2' at a music store, and I was told it had just been opened, only 1 week before. It was actually a store model and I did not feel comfortable with a semi-used pedal for the price I paid. I called the music store and got 3 different stories about the reason this pedal was out of the box. After these problems, I E-mailed(including my Cellphone#) Mike Fuller from the 'Fulltone' website, and wrote him of my problems. Exactly 3 minutes after I E-mailed him, I left for work. And literally 15 minutes after I E-mailed him, he called me on my cell phone. I was so suprised, because I was in Connecticut and he called from south California. We talked about my problem, he paged an employee, told him to take a pedal off of a foreign shipment and ship a new one to Connecticut(to a licensed Ct. dealer). I brought my pedal to the dealer and exchanged it for an unopened, brand new one. Mike was very 'real', he didn't talk like a con-artist businessman, he talked like a person who understood what working for your money was. Fulltone customer support is AMAZING!!!!!

Overall Rating : 10
I play many styles of music, and the 'Deja-2' covers different parts of all styles. I've been playing for 9 years and have not yet come across a pedal made with this quality. I have tried out the 'Dunlop Rotovibe' and 'Uni-vibe reissue', 'Voodoo Lab Micro-Vibe', 'Roger Mayer Voodoo Vibe', 'Deja-Vibe'(original), and others. If this pedal were stolen, I would try out the 'Deja-2'(stereo) and buy that or the 'Deja-2'. I love nearly all the components, except for the sweep
range from 'Slow' to 'Fast' with the foot pedal(very quick). Overall averaging the specs on the pedal, and the customer service, this pedal gets a 12.

Very simple well though out controls & layout. Excellent design for
a easy to use & effective vibe.

Sound Quality : 7
Okay, I though that it was too dark. I play a vinatge Nocaster & it doesn't
get much brighter then that. The vibrato is basically useless. I thought
this pedal was the holy grail when I was jamming in my bedroom, but it
just gets drowned out to easily. Just as the original Deja Vibe, I like my
effects to be nearly transparent, not invisible. I do like the swirling vibe
thang, but it is for "very specific" needs. I cannot imagine using this in
more then 3 or 4 songs a night. It is very hard to get a comfortable setting
& stick with it. I hope your ankles are in good shape.

Reliability : 9
Never had a problem!! I would definitley gig w/o a back-up for this pedal
just because you could easily survive w/o it.

Customer Support : 9
I have always received friendly informative advice & help from Mr. fuller

Overall Rating : 8
Overall this is a cool pedal that targets a specific need. It is not intended
as a straight chorus so don't buy it if you want chorus. I would line this
up more with fuzzes in that they both have specific uses & only certain
peple need them. This is by no means a verstail pedal nor is it menat to be.
Unless you are a vibe-nut, I think you could easily survive w/o this pedal
& save yourself some big $$$. Bottom Line...............sold on E-Bay

Ease of Use : 10
It's very simple to figure out due to the obvious parameters which affect the device-- modulation speed and intensity. The controls are nicely laid out and the unit has a great operational "feel". Instruction sheet isn't necessary, but it's a welcome addition--it has suggestions for the order of effects. As others have mentioned, the pot's taper is a bit compressed when shifting from slow to fast, but I haven't found it to be objectionably so. Mine is numbered #100, so this may/may not still be the case.

Sound Quality : 10
Sounds great! I can't compare the DejaVibe's sound/fidelity to other "Vibe" units since I don't own any others. (As 'spensive as they generally are, I don't know how many folks could own more than one.) In fact, before buying this I wasn't certain of what distinguished the legendary UniVibe phase shifter from the garden-variety phase shifters I've owned through the years. Sure, I've heard all the familiar Univibe "anthems", but you don't get a clear idea of the difference until you try one. It's the quirkiness of the slightly-retro technology which gives this unit, and the songs recorded with it, a subtle but distinctive tone. I guess Fulltone does a great job, because I could hear the "Machine Gun" thing right off the bat, and the strong modulation dips explain how Hendrix was able to get some of the "tortured" sounding phrases near the beginning of the song and the occasional "vowel-ish" sounds.

It's a very quiet unit, and the true bypass eliminates a major weakness of the original design (so I've read). The variety provided by the rocker switches are somewhat useful-- subtle, and not earth-shattering. I suspect that most folks would leave it in the Chorus mode instead of the vibrato mode; the vintage/modern switch doesn't make a dramatic difference if you've got distortion effects following it. (As a tinkerer, I wish it had a few more knobs, but that would detract from its retro-roots.)

Reliability : 10
The case is really solid, as others have said. I think that the one weakness is probably common to all Vibe units, and due to the nature of the beast. The effect relies on a small grain-of-wheat bulb (not an LED) to drive the modulation. I imagine that the sucker will someday burn out or the filament will open due to a jarring force. It does bother me that while the unit is plugged in, that little light is busy pulsing, even in bypass mode. As good at customer service as Michael Fuller is, I'd rather have a spare on hand to solder in myself. Nevertheless, since this isn't about the merits of the basic technology, I'd have to give this unit good marks for the housing construction and circuit-board work. (I've modified one of Fulltone's other pedals and NO wires are EVER going to jar loose!)

Customer Support : 10
From previous contact, all I can say is that everything good that folks have said about Michael Fuller is true. 'Nuff said.

Overall Rating : 9
From what I've seen, most Vibes are pricey. There are more economical phase shift effects which get that general type of sound. However, once you know the Vibe sound, you'll become sensitized to the difference. So it's a purist's pedal; A Hendrix-buff's must-have. It can also seem like a real luxury since the effect consumes considerable real estate for a "one-trick pony". The Vibe is not the best Leslie speaker simulation, and it doesn't sound like a jetting Flanger. Again though, it does the Jimi Hendrix thing very well, especially in Fulltone's implementation. The "Band of Gypsies" album blew me away when it came out, and this pedal gets you closer to the tonality-- so I'm extremely satisfied (but considerably poorer). Unfortunately, you can't buy the inspired improvisation part... Fulltone's version of the Vibe (a 10-rated effect type in my book) doesn't have any significant weaknesses, so it gets good marks. For my particular interests, I knock one point off for the lack of extra knobs & tweakability-- not Fulltone's fault, but such would add extra value for me...

Ease of Use : 10
No-brainer. Everything is laid out in front of you. Intensity controls the..duh, intensity of the effect, the swoosh or dip of the effect. The foot pedal is speed. Flashing LED tells you how fast, visually. Chor/Vib switch is simple, *click*. Vintage/Modern switch is cool, the modern is a touch louder, more output, the vintage is a trifle bit warmer. Sweeeet

Sound Quality : 10
All I have to say is, "Whoa." I use a glaser custom strat w/EMG's, a danelectro hodad, and another custom strat through a 4x10 Deville. The pedal is noise-less, courtesy of the true-bypass. The effect is transparent and beautiful, it has become the integral part of my tone. I can dial up sounds from days passed like Jimi, Stevie and all the fav's. The effect goes 2nd in the signal chain (recommended) right after a wah, then your od's/distortions, then trem's and delays and reverbs. I couldn't do without it.

Reliability : 10
It's a fulltone, need I say more? If it ever got stolen, or someone broke it (by some Godly means of force) I would pay to have it fixed or get another, it's amazing. But as it stands, you don't need a backup.

Customer Support : 10
I e-mailed Mr. Fuller in the past about the Deja'2 before I bought it, then asked him some questions, then bought it, then wrote more e-mails telling him how awesome it is. I also have a Full-Drive, I've always been able to get him on the line, or within a couple of hours he'll respond to e-mails. Incredible.

Overall Rating : 10
I play blues, jazz, rock, classic rock, funk, country...basically everything except punk/ska/thrash crud and this does them all superiorly. I've been playing seriously for only 3 years now, but I've been around guitars, music, and gigs my whole life from my family's musicality, and I know what good stuff is. I own a Phase-90, EHX Mem. Man, Pres. Elec. Dual-Tone, Full-Drive 2, a modified Crybaby with Fulltone circuits (soon to be a Clyde when I get the cash flow.) and a BD-2 among other things. I've never really had an effect that had an on-board speed control like this, so it's tricky for me cause I'm new to it, but I'm getting used to dialing in the speed quickly. This pedal is THE vital part of my tone now, I don't know how I did without it before. The price is steeper than most, but it's a Full-tone.

I am not someone who has owned dozens of effects in the past, but I would say that I had no trouble at all finding just the right tones for my songs. There is an LED that flashes according to how fast and how intense the vib/chorus is going. The more intense the effect, the brighter the LED. It is quite idiot proof.

The manual is very adequate and is written with a very personal tone to it. It starts off by giving a little history of the original UniVibe units, and how this unit is Mike Fuller's attempt recreate it with more modern features. (true bypass, easier to integrate it into signal chain) Fuller then suggests where the unit should be in YOUR signal chain. The second page is a basic description of the controls on the unit. It can provide both vibrato and chorus effects (not at the same time) and gives you the option of a more modern or vintage sound. Intensity is controled by a knob in the top corner and the speed is changed by the foot pedal. The foot pedal seemed a little tight when going up. I hear this can be changed though.

Sound Quality : 10
Others have managed to articulate the sound of this unit very well, comparing it to the sounds of other musicians, using very descriptive adjectives, etc. I wanted to write this review to describe the TRANSPARENCY of the unit. I am surprised at just how transparent my sound is coming through this unit. The DV-2 changes my original sound very little, which is a trend that I see in all Fulltone units. (the Fulldrive 2 does this as well) I tested this by switching the unit on and off repeatedly while using it in both chorus and vib modes, in modern and in vintage settings. The unit is most transparent in vibrato mode in modern setting. Almost no change at all. Very unnoticeable. The vintage setting does make for a warmer, slightly less defined sound, which I guess is the point. I also notice that the vintage setting gives the sound a different vowel-ness, sort of as if someone had instantly stepped on their wah. This is particularly noticeable in chorus mode. The vintage changes the sound from an "ah" to almost an "uh". Many say the Prescription Electronics unit is better in sound, but I have not heard it. This suits my jazz/fusion needs very well, as well as giving me a "Come as you Are" Cobain tone that I find cool.

Reliability : No Opinion
Can't comment.

Customer Support : 8
Mike Fuller answers e-mails instantly (a couple of hours). I have asked him a few questions and response has always been immediate. I should mention, however, that e-mails that I've sent where I have asked more than one question tend to never be fully addressed. The first question winds up being answered while the other ones are not. This could be due to the volume of e-mails he receives. Suggestion: Ask them one at a time.

This thing is very easy to use. It sounds incredible at any setting.
The foot pedal controls the speed. there is a stomp switch and 2 switches. One for Vintage or modern, and another for Vibrato and Chorus. I use the Modern and Chorus settings 99% or the time.

Sound Quality : 9
My setup is this:

PRS Customs or Strats. I have various other guitars but play a Strat with a Seymour Duncan JB in the bridge about 75% of the time.
My board runs as follows: Budda BudWah+, Fulltone Deja Vibe 2 (mono), TS-9 w/808 mod, Fulltone Choralflange (AWWSOME! Review will come after more use) then sometimes I will have a Phase 90, and into a Boss DD-5 Digital delay. This goes to a Marshall JCM 900 4100 Dual Reverb with a 1960A Cab with 70 Watt Celestions.

I do not know how I survived without this pedal for so long. It flat kills with Strats doing bluesy stuff. Stevie, Jimi, even Van Halen Phase 90 "squishy" stuff.
No noise at all. True bypass on Fulltone stuff. The Budda Wah has true bypass as well. See my Budda Wah+ review.
I am a believer. Fulltone builds the best pedal effects I have ever seen, heard, or spilled beer on.
Yes, they are spendy. But, they are the real deal. They are not the generic Taiwan, Mexican crap that subsidises all of the guitar mags.

I give a 9 only because it tends to fatten the sound a bit. This can be a little thick for my already beefy PRS Custom.

Reliability : 9
So far so good. It is very heavy duty.
I don't have a backup, too much money for backups.

Customer Support : 9
I have emailed Mike Fuller a few times with various questions. He has always been very prompt with a reply. He seems to take quite a bit of pride in his gear. I'm sure he'd fix any problem that arose. Plus there is a 5 year warranty.

Overall Rating : No Opinion
I play rock punk/pop stuff. Replacements, Bob Mould, Bodeans, Nirvana, as well as bluesy stuff....SRV, Jimi....etc

I would have to go on an interstate killing spree if it were stolen.
I just love the tones I get from it at any volume. I sound good through it! Amazing.

I own quite a bit of gear, I love guitar stuff. I know I am a bit, no, very anal about my equipment. Like I said earlier, I am a Fulltone believer. It's the best I've tried.
I especially love that is isn't a big corporate factory.
The poor kids that read the guitar mags have no clue how they are being manipulated by the "reviews". Ever notice that 90% of the reviews are for midlle to lower end crap? It's because the kids don't normally have enough cash for a Soldano SLO 100 or a Fulltone Deja Vibe 2. It's funny that companies like these don't place adds in the mags either. Hmmmm..... Advertise, get a favorable review....yep good plan.....crap!

Enough Ranting.... Fulltone ROCKS!!!

PS - One complaint. I ordered a cap from Fulltone and it arrived at my house in 3 days, but it smelled like fish! So, Mr. Fuller, what's up with that?
I washed it but it still smells like fish.

Just plug it in and it does the work for you, this is without a doubt the best Hendrix/Trower leslie sound you will find. The swithes are easy to use live, and the built in pedal adjusts the speed quickly and easily.

I am usind a Telecaster with a Seymour Duncan tele hot rails pickup and a Stratocaster with a "David Gilmour EMG setup". My amp at the moment is a Tech 21 60 guitar amp.
I mainly use the Chorus setting on the Deja'Vibe 2, but don't be fooled this is not youe standard chorus, this is liquid chorus total wash. And the true bi-pass circutry does not clutter your guitar sound.....

And I will be totally blunt- this is without a doubt the best made and thought out effect( not to say the best sounding in its field) I have ever come across.

This pedal is easy to use. The only difficult thing about it is getting your speed of the effect where you want it and keeping it there with the foot control. Otherwise straightforward. The manual is not really needed.

Sound Quality : 10
This pedal sounds fantastic as has every Fulltone pedal I've heard. I'm using the DejaVibe 2 in this setup Strat or Les Paul through a Boss Stage Tuner->Clyde Wah->Dejavibe 2->Hot Cake->Fulldrive 2->Danecho into a Super Reverb. This pedal is very quiet. The chorus effect is full and greasy. I love it this is great for Hendrix, Trower Vaughan but also Beatles sounds are near by. It is agood Rotary speaker sound but not an exact copy. The Vibrato i find to be useless unless you want to sound out of tune. The Modern/Vintage switch is cool. This effect is 3-D. I prefer the modern setting for a touch more volume and clarity. It is great to be able to control the speed with the foot control cool leslie starts and stops are easy to get. It is top of the univibe copies in my opinion smokes the dunlop and voodoo lab.

Reliability : 10
It is a solid tank with it's own three prong plug made out of steel. I use it without a back up.

Mike Fuller is a good guy. I have two other pedals of his and a fulltone pedal board. My footswitches on my Fulldrive have worn out twice he has replaced them free of charge for me very quickly. He has new footswitches now that are more heavy duty. He answers his phone and answers emails can be gruff and to the point but who cares

Very easy to use. A huge improvement in functionality over the original Deja Vibes. Features: Intensity knob, chorus/vibrato selector, and modern/vintage voicing selector, speed controller pedal (looks like a wah) and on/off switch all built into one portable unit. Good, simple, easy-to-read manual included. I believe the Deja Vibe 2 uses the same chassis as the Clyde wah.

Sound Quality : 10
True bypass, and dead quiet. Very lush and transparent chorus and Univibe sounds in this unit. The stereo option provides a 3-D sound field that is huge. I've owned and/or played most units in this class of Univibe derived pedals. The Prescription Vibe Unit is nice, but alters the fundamental guitar tone more in my opinion. The Dunlop is relatively sterile and hi-fi sounding. The Micro Vibe is not as lush. Mike recommends running the Deja 2 first in the signal chain, even before distortion, because post distortion "gets a strange half-way phasing" effect. The unit can be switched from Chorus to Vibrato mode. The Vintage mode provides the sound of the original Univibe. The Modern setting adds more fullness, and maybe more bass and midrange according to my ears. The speed pedal is nice as real time control over the rates is instant. The slowest speed is extremely slow and produces a very seductive and full chorus sound. The highest rate sounds like a stuttering machine gun firing off a bunch of ammo. The Deja Vibe 2 sounds more like a part of the fundamental tone, rather than being painted on or processed. If you want the oft-talked about Hendrix, Trower, SRV, Univibe tones, this one delivers. It's hard to talk about the Univibe without mentioning those three players.

Reliability : 10
I just got it, but it exudes quality. I hate using the cliche, but it is built like a tank. In fact, it's probably tougher than a tank. Extremely high-grade build quality. I think it will be extrememly reliable, but won't worry if there's a problem because Mike will take care of it. It's got a unique metal finish, that looks like it would avoid wear and tear very well. I don't even think scratches would show up on this unit.

Customer Support : 10
I can't imagine better service. E-mail responses are prompt. When you can get Mike on the phone, he's helpful. He helped me adjust the pot for increased rates over the phone, and talked me through every little delicate procedure. Mike has also modded several of my original aluminum case Fulltones for increased functionality, with extremely prompt, affordable, and durable upgrades. There is a reason Fulltone gets great remarks from many people. If this review is too gushing to be printed, well I'm sorry. I stand behind my remarks.

Overall Rating : 10
If you are a dedicated player, looking for the best Univibe tone, I'd recommend paying the price for a Deja Vibe 2. Fulltone also makes a non-stereo model for about $100 less, I think. I've heard good things about the Sweet unit, but don't know how it could be markedly better, especially in light of the Deja 2's upgrades. This is the only Vibe pedal I've seen with the foot controller built-in, and is far and away the most portable setup I've encountered. I will not use this effect on everything I do, but when the Univibe sound is required, this pedal will deliver the best tone for me. It's expensive, but is priced at what the market is willing to pay.
