"87 PRS I bought new, '53 tela my dad bought new, PRS HB2, strats, others.
Fuchs Overdrive Special (MONSTER AMP!!!) and Budda primarily for gigging and 2 Blues Juniors for stereo at home., others Boogie rectoverb and more.
I have about 16 high end, Keeley, Barber, etc. pedals including the Venerable Fulltone OCD, this Thing is so close to natual tube breakup it's stunning...as smooth and extremely SWEET sounds that go from the best early breakup to full tilt Overdrive. In fact it isn't quite what the Fuchs natural built overdrive is but really close! The BOOST is really an added plus and great clean boost.
The sound is as good as it gets at any price point...20 in my book! S W E E T !!

Playing 45 years since I was 12..Drummer 10 years in school..Same band now for 16 years vintage rock R&B cover band...monster vocalists but not from me.
Suits vintage rock as good as it gets from Bad Co. to ZZ, scary Skynard tones. Prefer MOSFET but not a bad sound to be found...set it forget it..I am going to buy another as the GT500 I am returning to GCenter...no go for me with that one!
I can only wish we could have had these high end pedals this good back in the day..But it's all good...
BIG THING is it sounds great through just about any good clean amp! From real '53 Tele
to '87 PRS Buckers this pedal loves all comers...including Ibanez whammy screamer with 1 Seymore Duncan. I'd lean toward single coils a little sweeter than Buckers and more versatile..IMUO. 10 AT LEAST compared to all the others I have.

Setup - Guitars: Gibson Les Paul Traditional Goldtop & Fender American Vintage '57 reissue Strat, Amp: Marshall JTM30 Combo
I actually stole this phrase from onother review I read somewhere else, but this pedal trully is an 'answered prayer'. I finally found the overdrive tone I've been hearing in my head since I started playing 14 years ago; fat, juicy, silky smooth overdrive tone with just the right amount of low end growl & midrange bite. It even makes my thin sounding strat sound really fat.
English is not my first language so I don't have much more to say other than that this is just a top notch overdrive pedal. If it was possible, I would've given a rating of 11 instead of 10 for sound quality.

I play mostly early to mid 90s alternative rock (Pearl Jam, Stone Temple Pilots, Soundgarden, Rage Against The Machine), and a little bit of Radiohead, Muse, Stereophonics and other british bands. I can easily emulate the tones of my favorite guitarists with this pedal.
I was using an Ibanez TS-9 turbo (TS9DX) before and I thought it was as good as it gets, but the FD2 Mosfet is a far more superior overdrive pedal.
The exclusive Fulltone distributor in my country didn't have the FD2 Mosfet in stock, so I took a gamble and bought one from eBay without ever trying it first. My only reference was online reviews from this site and musiciansfriend.com as well as video posts on YouTube. Man I'm glad I took that gamble.

Pauls comments below about the Deja Vibe are just soooo true lmao. The Fulldrive 2 Mosfet with the mini Deja Vibe is an awesome combination. I have compared this fulldrive with the J-Drive and others. It's really, really good as is the mini Deja Vibe. It has a pristine sound quality, an overdrive which is so expressive and articulate.

I use this with a les paul, fulltone mini deja vibe, ehx memory man, and vox v847 wah into an original '84 marshall jcm800. This pedla is great, especialy with non master volume amps like mine as you can use the od chanel to add just a bit of kick to a clean sound and then kick in the boost for a great big, fat, warm blues/classic rock lead tone, effectively giving you three chanels from a classic one chanel valve amp. It won't do mega saturated metal, but thats not what it's supposed to do. If you play blues rock or classic rock, you need this pedal. It's up there in a class of its own.

I play classic blues and blues rock and for me, this pedal is perfection. I've played and owned other overdrives and this knocks 'em al dead, even the zendrive. Top class. If it was stolen or lost I would first cry, then fork out for a new one, as my only negative with these is that they're certainly NOT cheap. Thats the only reason I give it a 7 and not the 10 it deserves with a bit of a price cut.

O.K., this is like my 4th Fulldrive. I bought it used, 'project' thing. Opened it up, nothing obvious. Got in touch with Fulltone, and after the initial 'idiot' weeding-out process they sent me a repair authorization form. Two weeks later, it is on its way home. $30 for parts/labor/love. These guys are good, don't know why some people have had bad experiences but if you are semi-competent and can prove it with their little 'moron' survey, they will work with you quickly and efficiently. That's all I've got to say about that...........

I would not say this is "easy" to use, especially for some of the review comments I read. Fulltone is probably the most misunderstood guru in the arena. I find most do not understand what he is putting on the table nor how to use it. This is an overdrive in every sense of the word, not a fuzz box. I think it works best into a decent tube head at least that is where it shines to full genius. My only complaint is that the boost is only useable with the OD circuit on not as a stand alone clean boost. Which is really OK as I have two such circuits available on my V3 head. "Easy to use" is a good one, I have seen two knob units misused. Given this is like my 2nd or 3rd review for this unit, let's seen if they toss this one, I am sorry I am not up to the literary standards of the 6" speaker crowd. Maybe some fo the experienced players might appreciate an older players view on tone.

This is a highly versitile unit, accolades to the genius of Fuller, he probable has a right to be snubby to gear heads and their comments. Especially on his DejaVibe which I just get a kick out of reading. Some guys would not know a better than vintage photo cells when they stepped on them. The Trower Vibe God uses the DejaVibe so does Satch and Vai, nuff said.
This is an overdrive pedal made to drive the tube amp into clipping or provide some tonal enhancement of your already good tone. I find it works in all toggles at all gain issues with any of my clean to molten tube channels.
Overdrive (left switch):
-three knows on this circuit, volume, tone and overdrive
-high quality pots, smooth tight feel.
-a lot of volume boost is available here, keep it rolled back unless you are after the effect of really, really over whelming your input.
-tone is not a drastic boost or cut, mid seems to be unity, the effect is transparent and musical depending on what you are after.
-overdrive goes from clean to moderate gain drive.
-all settings very musical and useful.
-three toggle switch on the left: Vintage, FM, Comp Cut
Vintage gives you a deeper more gainy classical OD tone
FM is "flat mids" and is made for the neck on a strat enhances a good tone to just outstanding.
Comp Cut is best used for cleaner boosts
All settings very transparent in enhancement working with the tone of the guitar and amp rather than creating a tone via the box
The Boost functions in front of the OD section to overdrive the overdrive. You can get any combination of any style of boost or gain from this pedal. I use it on FM, tone 11:00, distortion 9:00 for a mild boost with bottom end like I was using my OCD. The MOSFET toggle adds more low end and push to the tone, probably better if you ask me. I think this does what the OCD did but better as I was not using the OCD for high gain. A great pedal, underrated against a lot of crap, if you ask me. If you have a high end rig you will hear the difference in Fulltone. Some of us appreciate your work Mike, do keep it coming. You can be moody on the phone, I think you have a right to be. Maybe it was after he read some of the DejaVibe reviews, man those pissed me off.

Top shelf components, what Fuller can't find he has made, better than the vintage crap of the "clone wars". The Full Drive MOSFET is the players OD pedal, highly versitile, musical tone ehancement without coloring your axe or amp, push or boost to any degree is available. If you just want a distortion type OD this is not your deal. An experienced player is going to like the Full Drive and anything Fuller creates. In 30 some years of playing great tones I have never had much of anything fail on me> I redo my rig every few years anyway.

Fuller can be moddy if you actually get him on the phone, he has little tollerance for your basic gear head, I am sure he is quite nice to Trower. The Deja-Vibe 2 rules, Mike, some of us get it!!! They will fix anything that might fail most companies will.

After tossing my old line up, I selected the Full Drive for a slot on my new board as it just provided everything I needed in a drive and a replacemenrt for my OCD version 3. I loved the OCD so that might give you an idea of how I was able to let it go.
I like to play a wide range of tones (except country and rap, just doesn't ring my bell) My rig gives me glass, Trower Vibe, Satch, Vai to Megadeth at the touch of switch. I run Carvin guitars all custom made with my specs (where else can you get that for the price). A Carvin V3 head into their vintage 4x12 cab, just amazing, clean to molten tubes (retubed with Tung Sol EL34B's check out the tubestore .com). I play Eric Johnson GHS 10-50's semiflat winds detuned a whole step, bloody killer. (The only semi-flats I can find since the old GHS Nickel Rockers used by SRV and Eric. Who needs all those overtly bright strings??)
I run a Tone Bone slanted board with a BBE supercharger under it for power. Morley Vai II wah, into a new Whammy, into a new Metal Core, into the Full Drive. I run the Full Drive at 12v on the Superchargers mid out plugs, this seems to be my fav, a little more headroom than the 9v but not as much as going 18v which is too much for my tastes. That is my amp in line.
I currently run a Voodoo Lab Micro Vibe (process underway to replace it with a new DejaVibe 2) into a Carvin FX2 rack mount unit for 440ms echo and reverb (32 bit quality processor) running linked channels into loop one. I have a series of footswitches for three differing channels, loop one, loop2 I have rigged for another clean boost, the amps front panel knob boost switch, and the FX2's channels mutes.
This simple rig keeps my tone no matter what sequence of boxes I have on. These are currently my favs. Love the Vai II wah more than the potted wahs, although the Fulltone Wah would be the only one I would add, not replace the Vai wah it's just too good. So9me might laugh at the Metal Core but I just loved my Keeley mod MT-2 distortion just to be able to go Megadeth and save my tubes. I also get some amazing tones in the Satch arena using it and the whammy through a 440ms echo, amazing effects.

After the second time I sent it in, on my dime, the tech emailed me to tell me they couldn't replicate the problem. I asked him what he thought we should do since it was almost brand new and I was having to repeatedly send it back on my dime. The next email I got was a scathing response from Mike Fuller saying he couldn't help it if I didn't know how to use the pedal. I guess you have to be as smart as Mike thinks he is to operate 2 button, 4 knobs and a switch. Anyway, I was amazed at his hostility and attitude. What an ego this guy has. He also said "The customer is not always right here pal." I would recommend to anyone to stay away from anyone who thinks that's the way to treat his customers. I spent a lot on a this pedal and I was only asking for them to stand behind their product.

Ironically I never had that problem again after they returned it. I know it's agrivating when the solution to a problem alludes you but there is no need to jump to hostility with the people who made you. It is partially my fault because I had read a lot about Mike Fuller's attitude and I bought one of his products anyway. You decide if it's worth. I know there are plenty of other people who make pedals as good or better the Fulltone.

I am not sure how someone could get a bad tone out of this OD box. I might take a while to adjust to your style and tastes. I have found the best setup for my strat type guitar and it sounds fine on my Humbuckler Les Paul type. By rails on the strat are pretty high ohm as compared to some single coils but the tones are amazing.

I just retubed by amp head (Carvin V3) with some great tubes from the on-line tube store. This box really comes alive with a good tube head. Obviously this is what it was made to do. If you are using a small one speaker amp, you do not need to be trying to use high end boutique pedals like Fulltone. This is the best OD pedal. I use it to push the clean channel just a little and by hitting the boost I get a good tonal OD and it is useful on all channels including my high gain for some tonal differences. I replaced my OCD pedal and with this unit I can get what I liked out of the OCD plus more.

Fulltone makes the best. Never had a breakdown. If fact of 30 some years of playing just about every device you could imagine. I have only had a power supply brick fail (twice out of the box) and a chip failure on a rack mount unit after years. I expect no problems from Fulltone as Fuller makes quality high end gear using top shelf components.

These guys will talk to you if you have a concern but they have little patience for some machine heads ideas that are often not so informed or knowledgable as they might think. Most gear heads are not so bright and some of the notions they have are often the result of their bad gear.

I recently redid my entire board and I now have the ultimate as far as I am concerned. I can get any sort of tone out my rig which suits the spectrum of what I like to play. I would not hesitate to use it live again or with the band (which I have actively retired from doing). I tried the Fulltone GT500 and I liked some of its features like the separate boost circuit which the Drive 2 does not have. However, I wanted to be able to replace my OCD unit with the Trower type push I was using the oCD to get, the GT500 was more a distortion unit while the Drive is very adjustable OD.
I have the drive set to a mild clean boost and when engauging the boost it drives the OD into a good tube overdrive tone which works on any channel. This box is made to be a transparent enhancement that can be used with anything to add to the tones.
My new rig with a retubed amp head is just sounding better than anything I have ever used. This is after many years of box selections.
My line is a Carvin V3 head (Jan Phillips 5751's in the clean preamps and Tung Sol 12AX7A's in the high gains, Tung Sol El34B's in the power slots (4), the best tubes by the way) a Carvin vintage 4x12 loaded cab. Just an amazing amp, that really needs nothing. The board just adds to the tonal spectrum and colors. (Carvin is some great gear for a lot less money than a whole bunch of crap, overpriced, "one-trick pony" amps. I also use their guitars, I would not have anything else.)
Amp-in: Morley Vai Wah II, Digitech Whammy, Boss Metal Core, Fulltone Drive II. Series Loop: Voodoo Lab Micro Vibe, Carvin FX2 32 bit processor (rack mount, echo, reverb, chorus, flange). I use the latter FX 2 for my 440ms echo and a slight reverb on the linked series processor, both footswitchable). In addition to my board, I have 10 silent foot switches that control my amp channels, boosters and loops. I can get funk clean, the best of Trower type OD and simply amazing sonic high gain Satriani, Vai, or Megadeth tones.

This is the most incredible overdrive pedal I've ever played. I run it into a Mesa Tremoverb with a Boss DD-20 and a BBE Sonic Stomp. My primary guitars are a 1970 SG Standard and a PRS Singlecut Trem. I switch between the vintage high gain and the blues channels on the Mesa and I'm very happy with the two. But when I run the Full Drive with the Blues Channel it completely changes the amp. It sounds like an old Marshall. Absolutely perfect for leads. Once I got this pedal I decided my guitar rig was complete. That's pretty big for a guy with a bad case of Gear Acquisition Syndrome. I run the pedal with an 18V power supply, which I prefer. It opens it up and makes it more amp like and powerful. Though is still sounds pretty great with a 9V supply. Running it with the 18V supply is a little noisy but I generally use it for leads anyway and it isn't noticeable when you're playing.

OK this is buggin me. The FDII doesn't really sound like a tube screamer. I have an original 808 circut in my UE300...I run the fulldrive INTO that unit, that runs into a custom Victoria Victorilux.
The FDII is sooo much smoother, sooo much richer. The 808 is like adding a big *** hump to the midrange, adds a bit of presence, muddies up the highs and kinda rounds of the lows. The Fulldrive actaully help ARTICULATE the highs, beefs up the lows a touch, adds mids, but not way a tubescreamer does; hence why it sounds so nice. They don't really sound the same at all to my ears...but I basically run them right into a 12AX7..
The Voodoo Labs Sparkledrive...thats an 808 on 'roids...(another great pedal!)

i think the sound quality is great. their are three settings, Compcut, FM, and Vintage. i run my fulldrive through a 72 reissue thinline telecaster, into a marshall bluesbreaker, and personally i think the best way to get a fat, and sweet distortion is to put the setting on compcut and put the boost on.
compcut gives you a boost in volume compared to the other settings and also doesnt distort the sound as much, so you can also use this to get a very crisp sound, or if you want a sharp sounding solo.
the FM is a chunkier distortion and is a bit more fullon than the vintage.
the vintage sound is great for bluesy type sounds and is a very smooth distortion.

I honestly don't think it's possible to get a bad tone out of it. Took it right out of the box, turned the 4 knobs to 9:00, 12:00, 12:00, and 9:00....sounded fantastic. I was blown away.

I've been playing for 23 years. I'm a classic rocker- old school metal guy, with a really heavily bluesy influenced style. My heroes are Clapton, Page, Frehley, Wylde,Neal Schon, Dave Murray/Adrian Smith. The main way I use an overdrive is to push any of my tube amps harder. My OCD and Keeley blues driver are both good enough to use alone, with no amp gain on a clean chnl. This FD2 is not IMO. It is extremely thin, and has almost no gain (balls) at all. I can't believe how many people give this thing a 9 or 10 and go on raving about it. Compared to the OCD this pedal cuts bass way too much and adds too much midrange. The tone and gain knobs seem very dead and aren't flexible. The boost helps a tad, but is nothing like my keeley katana before my OCD or anywhere in the chain. The mini toggle for the flat mid/vintage is so subtle it's a waste. Yeah the comp cut mode is very loud, and useful for a clean boost, but you can buy a single clean boost without a crap od. I think this pedal is too complicated for its own good. A killer od pedal like the ocd or keeley blues driver or super od only needs 3 knobs and you're good to go. The toggles and switches only make you tweak instead of play. I know this is not a hi gain screaming *** pedal, and no, that's not what I needed, but I owe it to my fellow musicians to say " this pedal is overpriced and is not all it's hyped up to be. Again, buy a fulltone OCD, Keeley blues driver, or super overdrive for a simple kick *** od pedal. I'm lucky my fd2 sold so quick!

Easy to use unless you don't understand pedals. It's overdrive, and you can dial in an easy great sound with all controls at 12:00. The switches make it so much more useful, but also make it more complex, but not difficult to use. Just lots of options for great sounds.
The manual is good for learning the controls, and has some sample settings to get you started.

For gigs I mainly play either a Koa wood Carvin DC135 or an original Gibson "The Paul" (1978) made of mahogany. Also have a variety of other guitars. All sound good through this pedal. It's magic.
Not noisy, except if you are careless with placing audio cables near power cables, or you use lousy audio cables. Even with controls maxed out, it's not noisy like most overdrive or distortion pedals can be.
It's hard to get a bad sound out of this pedal. You would need a horrible guitar and a crappy amp, and it would still make them sound much better.
I use mostly a Fender Hot Rod Deville, but also a Pignose G40V and a Marshall DSL 401. They all love this pedal.
Can get SRV to AC/DC and any kind of creamy blues/rock tone you can imagine. Also useful for harder and edgier stuff, but can't get a total metal grind if you are going for the scooped buzz saw sound. But it crunches up nice and is very versatile.
Sounds good before or after a wah, though I like after. Just like any overdrive or distortion, it does not sound good after a delay. Or at least not nearly as good as before the delay, which is normal.
Here's the kicker. This things sounds great at first. Then you might get over it and be wishing it had something more to offer. This happened to me. Then I tried the 18v power, instead of using 9v. Waaaay more headroom, and just a more open sound. This is the only way to run this pedal. Sound beautiful.

I play reggae, funk, rock, blues, and an experimental mix of latin groove and world beat. This pedal is perfect for everything. Best overdrive I've owned or played, even beats my Vox Valvetone.
Been playing for 20 years. Own tons of gear, but my live signal chain is Barber Tone Press > Dunlop Crybaby > Fulltone Fulldrive II Mosfet > Pigtronix EP1 > Yamaha UD Stomp > AMP (see main amps above).
If it were lost I'd buy another. If it were stolen I'd beat somebody's arse like you wouldn't believe it. Definitely replace this lovely creation if it were gone.
I love the sound, the options, the look. I wish the two channels were independent of each other, instead of one stacked on the other. That way you could use the Boost as a separate sound all by itself, instead of just adding gain to the normal overdrive. Or maybe a way to make the Boost be louder in volume (it's the same volume, which is kind of nice too).
I've had many overdrives and distortions, but this is the very best. PERIOD!
It absolutely helps me make great music. It's magic.
USE THE 18 Volt power. You will be very happy.

I use a gibson les paul standard premium plus, american deluxe strat, early 70's gibson sg. It's weak and screws with your amps EQ settings.

I play blues and classic rock mostly, with 80's metal as well. I've been playing 22 years. This pedal was bought to use on a second pedalboard setup I'm working on. My main overdrive has been a fulltone OCD which blows this thing away. I find the fD2 to be very weak on bass, weak on gain even for an overdrive, and it adds too many mids to my sound. I really dislike its sound when used alone thru a clean chnl- very weak. It's usable with some gain from a tube amp, but it screws with your tone too much. The mini toggle switches are unnecessary in my opinion, as they are barely noticeable in tonal changes. A good overdrive doesn't need so many options on it anyway, it should just do 1 thing real well. I spent more time trying to play with all this stuff on it to see if it would sound better! This is now up for sale. I got the OCD and a Keeley boss blues driver- they both rule! The OCD is way thicker, more transparent and is good enough to use on it's own-without any amp gain. I did try the fD2 out a store twice previous to ordering one and didn't remember it being so weak. Oh well

i like doing comparisons. i put my fulltone up against a tim pedal. it's not hard finding your tone. the tim has the flexibility with the loop. the tim is made to enhance other drives in your effects chain, although it can stand alone. the fulltone is all about tone. you can use the fulltone to enhance your other drives if wanted. i use either one as a stand alone for my drive tone. it does depend on the amp used & your hands --of course. speaker cabs too. i use a 2x12 jbl cab with a divided by 13 37 6v6 head. the tim has a boost with a pull-out on the back panel drive control--this can get real aggressive--quicker clipping. i normally use it without pulling this out. it also has a boost switch on the front. the fulltone has the mini toggles to set up the texture you want, & the boost on the front as well. you can use an 18 volt adapter with the fulltone as well as a 9 volt. i use a 9 volt with my fulltone. only use a 9 volt with the tim. i use fulltone adapters because i feel a big difference in current from other adapters--just like batteries can give you different currents. the fulltone adapter is very consistent.

you can't lose either way. i think the fulltone compresses very well. it is transparent for the most part, again depending on how strong your pickups are. it's not muddy. you hear the harmonics with picking. the tim is thinner in its regular mode, but don't confuse this with that crap-like thin everyone hates. remember, the tim is made to work more with stacking drives. it is transparent, but it can get great drive with just the front boost. it can go for that dumble shimmer when boosted or regular. if you pull the drive out in back, things get more saturated--you change the clipping. i get plenty of drive from both effects. the tim may be better balanced in that it's controls reduce your treble, bass, or harmonics. that's why when you turn them clockwise, you subtract from the tonality of the effect. just about every other effect out there, when you turn clockwise, you get more bass or treble in the effect. the gain on the front works like a regular control, when you turn clockwise, it adds gain. the drive on the back works counter-clockwise to add drive. the fulltone controls work like any amp control, turn clockwise, & you get more in the signal. i think the fulltone has good balance. the fulltone is made for great drive, & delivers. the tim is made more for stacking--this is what i think everyone raves about. it does stand alone fine as a drive. so make your choice as to what you want for your guitar tone. some places need that compressed tone when you play out, other times the tim effect is the right choice for a room or hall. the mosfet option does make a difference with the fulltone. neither one is a grunge pedal--not for the mesa rectifier tone. the tim may come close if you pull out the back panel drive, but even then you still have an obvious difference. both are made for clear drive tone. you'll like the harmonics. some guys like compression, others don't want too much. if you order a tim--you won't find them in stores--with a little time--i'd think you'll find your drive tone--stacked or not. contact paul cochrane--he's the builder. i have several fulltone products, & all have delivered. i have an ocd as well--2 of them--both either version 2 or 3--i forget-& they have a difference in tone between them. both ocd's work depending on what i want. anyhow, for all the reviews i see about how the tim is SO OUTSTANDING, the fulltone is not the degenerate effect it can be made out to be. these effects were designed differently, & that's good. because our ears work differently too. & our hands. all of us play different guitars with all kind of pickup configurations. it's ok to be a tone nut or gear junky, just don't be a snob over it. what if bonamassa starts using a $30.00-40.00 pedal--no mods? the prices for that effect on ebay will jump 1000%. the fulltone is now around $161.00, & if you order from cochrane, the tim is 169.00, & he has dropped the wait from one year down to about 4 months. or you can get one off ebay for around $270.00 to about $300.00.

I'm using this with a blues junior at home with a fat strat. No unwanted noises from this guy. Just your guitar coming through. The clarity you get is amazing. Now the vintage setting does add mid hump so this is a "tubescreamer" sound we all know, but not compressed, not as processed sounding. The FM is a more straight un colored sound that gets some added drive, and the CompCut is really just a clean boost. Then you have the Boost side and the normal or mosfet setting. This really gets you going for a solo. having this boost was a awesome addition.

It will handle all your light to medium break up / gain sounds. Its not supposed to handle distortion type sounds. So if your into distortion don't think this pedal will do it. there just isn't enough gain.

I agree--it's really hard to get a bad sound out of this overdrive pedal. I would recommend starting off by dialing in the best tone you can get from your amp before even engaging the FD2. Important to think about staging gain. Best to use a tube amp (I have a modded Fender Hot Rod Deluxe with JJ tubes and a Celestion Vintage 30). Set your "clean sound" to be as gritty as you can. Most of the time that means turning it up pretty loud so you start getting a hint of natural overdrive. (I'm from the school of thought that says a "clean" sound should never be crystal clean--hence the reason I bought a HRD and modded it to be grittier and warmer). Once you've got your amp's pure sound set, then start with the FD2--set the volume and overdrive knobs to work in conjunction with each other. Then the tone knob is really there to change the amount of brightness/darkness or clarity--call it presence if you want. Overall easy to get a killer sound out of it if you follow this method. It's a high-quality overdrive pedal that's hand-made in the US. You can't go wrong there.

Here's my signal chain: Les Paul Classic with Burstbucker Pro Humbuckers -> Planet Waves Chromatic Pedal Tuner -> Morley Lil' Alligator Volume Pedal -> BBE Boosta Grande -> Voodoo Lab Sparkle Drive -> Fulltone Full-Drive 2 MOSFET -> Radial Engineering True Bypass Effects Loop Switcher (with a Line 6 DL4 in loop one and nothing in loop two) -> modified Fender Hot Rod Deluxe (as described above). This pedal isn't noisy in my opinion. I love the natural and warm "boutique-style" overdrive that comes from this pedal. It interacts very well with the output coming from the guitar (determined by the pickups and the player's use of the volume knob). I can leave the overdrive from the FD2 on all the time and clean up the sound with the volume knob on my guitar. It's not a fuzzy overdrive at all, which I love. I typically use my Sparkle Drive for cleaner overdrive sounds, when I really just want to add some kick to my clean sound, and then I'll use the FD2 for the thick overdriven tones. And for leads I can simply step on the boost. It's best in my opinion to set the overdrive knob between 12:00 and 2:00, and then turn the boost knob all the way up (or just short of all the way). When it's set up this way, the boost function is much more effective and there's a bigger difference in the two sounds. I usually have the first toggle switch set to "vintage" and the second one set to "Mosfet" because I like the thicker overdrive tones. One of the best aspects of the tones you can get from this pedal is the maintained low-end. With many overdrive pedals, the low-end is lost when the pedal is engaged. I don't know why, and I've never liked it. But the guys at Fulltone specifically addressed that with this pedal, because it retains that low-end and sounds fantastic. Sometimes, for a really dirty lead tone, I'll engage the Sparkle Drive (feeding into the FD2) while the FD2 is on--incredible clarity and screaming sustain. That's a whole seperate conversation when you start talking about blending the two together for really screaming sounds and staging them together properly. The ultimate setup would be two or three seperate Full-Drive 2 MOSFET pedals in line to be used in conjunction with each other for different amounts of gain. I give it a 10--it's pristine.

I play a lot of blues rock and classic rock. Sometimes there's a bit of country influence in my playing as well. This pedal works great for the sound I'm after. I've been playing for about 10 years and I'm finally getting around to piecing together the exact sound I've been after--this pedal has been very integral to that. If it were lost/stolen, I'd definitely replace it. My favorite features on the pedal are the two toggle switches. They really expand the range of tone-possibilities. This pedal is great because it helps me achieve the tone that enables me to become expressive in my playing. I can get "that" sound that I'm after, forget about turning knobs, and just play. When your gear helps you in that way, you know you have good gear--no matter what it is. If it does that for you, hold on to it.

The thing to remember is that this is an overdrive pedal, NOT a distortion pedal....If you're looking for Metallica, it ain't here! However, it has a wonderful clean boost and a quite a variety of mild to rockin' overdive tones....And you will retain the inherent tone of your guitar, which is something I like a lot!!! Again, if you are a person who loves to search for different tones, I think you'll be extremely satisfied! I'll put it this way....Your pedalboard space is precious.....I have a bunch of Overdrive/Distortion pedals....The FullDrive 2 Mosfet Edition will be on that pedalboard as long as I'm playing.....It's THAT good!!!!

Beautiful... I'm using an Epiphone Casino (with P-90s) through a 1975 Hiwatt DR504 and it is amazing. The Hiwatt is just shy of amazing overdrive, so this pedal takes it all the way. The tone is so musical and focused. Its near impossible to get bad sounds from it. Even the settings I don't use sound great. Hey there folks! I'm going to get down to it. This pedal is a great pedal. I didn't originally have the same opinion I do now, however. At one time I thought it sucked and wondered what everyone was so excited about. As far as ease of use is concerned, this pedal is pretty straight foreward. It could be misconceived by some that the Mosfet function only applies to the boost, however, and this is not the case. It applies to both gain stages. Mine is the new edition of the pedal (the one with the "blanket taken off the sound" according to Mike Fuller). The pedal has two programable sounds so editing patches is not that big of a deal. It is better if the gain is not turned up much past 2:00 if you want a distinct difference between the boosted signal and the un-boosted one.
This is the updated edition. Knobs: Volume, tone, compcut/fm/vintage mode toggle, overdrive, mosfet on/off toggle, boost volume.

What setup are you using this with?
I am using it mostly with teles and strats but also a Gretsch 6120 about 15% of the time. My signal chain runs as follows: Guitar, Fulltone Clyde Standard, Fulldrive 2 Mosfet, Fulltone GT500, Xotic BB + Plus, Keeley Compressor, TC Electronic Nova Modulator, MXR 74 Vintage Phase 90, Arion Chorus EWS mod, TC Electronic Nova Delay, Boss TU2, Amp. The amp is usually one of 3: A Vox AC 30 CC1 loaded with Celestion Alnico Gold Speaker, Fender 59 Bassman reissue, Traynor Guitar mate from 1972 (22 watt el84 based amp).
This pedal can be slightly noisy if the boost function is maxed and the overdrive is up, but no more than any other pedal. I would say less.
I must say that I originally found the pedal to be weak. I thought there wasn't enough gain to it. What I ended up realizing was that it depends on how you set your amp and what kind of amp you have.
I also realized that this pedal is more transparent than most overdrives in this category(e.g. The TS family). It is much less compressed which may initially appear too clean.
I have tried a variety of other pedals in this category. I have tried stock Tubescreamers including 808, 9, and 9dx. I have also tried the maxon ones. I have tried the keeley mods and own bothe the 808 with 1982 chip and 9 DX Flexi. I have also tried the Xotic family of effects and out of all of these, at least for a transparent lighter overdrive, I found it to be the best. This pedal has allowed me to get the Stevie Ray tone I have been looking for all of these years and really serves well at enhancing my amp.
I am able to get very convincing blues, country and lighter rock sounds from this pedal. If you want something more gainy or more compressed, check out some of the other pedals I mentioned. They too are good, but for different applications.

I play a lot of different styles of music including, Rock of varied kinds from soft to heavy, blues, country, Jazz, latin, and blue grass. This pedal is a good match for most of the lighter kinds to medium amounts of gain.
I have been playing for 13 year and am turning 25. Most of my frequently used gear is listed above, but there is more. I would prefer not to list it as it would take too long.
If this pedal were lost or stolen, I would definitely buy it again. I like the transparency of it and the way it enhances my amps' best qualities. I also like the boost function and the toggle switches, which allow for some interesting tonal variation. I mostly keep it on vintage mode, however. What I don't like is the way the overdrive knob is not as interactive as many other pedals I have tried. The level of saturation doesn't have a wide enough variance.
I compared this product to the keeley tubescreamers, the xotic ac plus, the Diamond J-drive TR and MK3, and Fulltone OCD. I own or have owned all of those pedals except the ac plus. With some pedals you have to take them home and play around with them for some time in order to decide what you think. I sold both J-drives and removed the other pedals listed from my pedalboard.
If I could have something else for this pedal it would be either an 18 volt converter inside and a switch that allows the pedal to change from between 9 and 18 volt operation. I would also like a clean boost to go after the pedal for a simple volume boost for soloing instead of only a gain boost from the boost channel. I would like to see a 3 stage version.
This pedal does help me to make music. Off the cuff, I have been coming up with exciting new music that my band and our audiences seem to love.
On top of all the things mentioned above, this pedal is a real looker. It is very attractive looking. I've always been reminded of some sort of air plain console when looking at it. Nice blue paint and now available again in cream knobs which look sweet.

All the knobs are very interactive and offers you a wide range of sound and combination. Love the boost function. It gives more growl to the overdrive. And is responds extremely well to picking dynamics and guitar volume.

Okay now .... i'm not going into all the relative basic detail that others have already written about ... so as to not take up any more page space of rehashed mentions.
At first , i had a hard time lking this pedal's OD section 'cause it is way too bright for me (however perfect for any dark sounding amp).
i did right out da gate dig its Boost section when setting it for clean gain.
Now the the mojo .... for myself i have found the best way to use this pedal. utilize both stages (OD + Boost). you're thinking many here have already detailed that and then some. yeah , they have - but here's a bit more to the equation - the secret ingredient if you will. Get yourself a VL Pedal Power 2+ and use the SAG control feeding the FullDrive 2. that's right - lower the voltage going to it to taste. it's like doing the variac thing to an amp. you'll also need a separate loop switch unless you wanna do the Mexican hat dance at stomping several switches on / off with each engagement.
I'm telling all of you there's a wonderful refinement when using this pedal this way.

This is the best overdrive that I have ever used and has a boost switch that really makes your leads sound excellent. I used a Fender Stratotcaster with HS-3 and YJM pickups, a Marshall AVT275 amp, and used it in conjunction with a Boss GT-8 multi-effects unit. I have been playing for 30 + years and have played professionally so I have some idea of the differences between 'good' and 'GREAT' tone. I've tried 100s of overdrive and distortion pedals and currently have several including ProCo Rat, EH Metal Muff w/Top Boost, Boss Metal Zone, and Boss Metal Core, several Tubescreamers, EH Big Muff (old school). Listing all the different types of overdrives and distortions I've used in my time could take years...;)
In summary, the Fulltone overdrive is very warm and smooth and works very well with other distortion pedals. I used an Electro-Harmonix Metal Muff Nano with it and got killer tone. The difference in this overdrive pedal is that you have excellent clarity and sustain and the sound does not get muddled as with other overdrive pedals.

I play rock (alternative and classic), country, blues, gospel, and jazz occasionally. This pedal works very well with all of the types of music mentioned but may not be suitable for metal. I first bought a Fulltone GT-500 which all the salespeople said was great (and cost more) but found the distortion too fuzzy and muddled for my taste. If you like good clarity and sustain this is the pedal for you.
As I said before, I've been playing for over 30 years.
If it were lost or stolen I'd buy another one in a second.
I love the tone. Nothing I've tried sounds this good. I decided on this unit after researching over 75 - 100 different overdrive and distortion pedals. After doing quite a bit of research about the type sound I was after, I decided that what I really needed was a good overdrive with a boost that would work good with other distortion pedals that I have. I've found that using subtle overdrives to color your sound with a good distortion pedal is the best way to get great tone.

Iv'e had the pedal only a short time, but in relation to my Keeley Modded Sparkle Drive, Keeley Modded Blues Driver, and Mesa Boogie V-Twin, I will say that it is on par with the rest of my overdrive pedals in the way of that luscious smooth tone. As a previous reviewer stated, I don't necessarily know if it presents my best clean/crunch rhythm tone BUT with the proper tweaking I believe it can be. The Keeley Modded Sparkle Drive is great for a smooth rhythm/lead tone within a clean gain envelope. For whatever reason I prefer my Sparkle Drive with humbucker equipped guitars, and the Keeley Modded Blues Driver with single coil guitars, and the Fulltone Full Drive 2 Mosfet with both pickup types.

For this review I used a 66' Fender Blackface Super Reverb with Tone Tubby 10"s. It's a rough looking condition amp, so I decided to make a sleeper of it. The SR has 2 x 10" Alnico Hempcones and 2 x 10" ceramic hempcones in a "X" pattern with a ceramic and alnico 10" above and below. The amp has a new set of GT 6L6's, a Sylvania NOS GZ34, and NOS preamp tubes, a 70's Fender Silverface Super Reverb reverb pan, and has been recapped. Other than the tolex looking rough, this amp absolutely KILLS tonewise, it's the ultimate Fender tone with no limitations to the speaker frequency range whatsoever, unlike other paper cone speaker counterparts. These Tone Tubby speakers haven't even been broken in yet but still sound PHENOMENAL. The guitar is a custom made lefty Surf Green strat with 38 year old righty staggered Seymour Duncan Alnico Pro strat pickups which also provides a PHENOMENAL sounding tone (for pics of guitar see:)

Takes a while - that's not a bad thing - and like all pedals you don't really find your tones until your in a big room with sound bouncing all over, etc - what I hear in a smaller practice space never holds up in a bar. The manual does help - just enough info.
markers on knobs easily visible in low lite - small toggles - but once you know them it's not difficult to change settings on the fly.

My review is only about stratocaster into pedal into amp - cover dance band. I don't know anything about humbucker tones, or recording tones. ( sometimes think there should be separate reviews for recorded sound ) If you play a les paul or care about recorded tone you should ignore my review.
vintage style strat >>> full-drive ( 18 volts ) >>>>> Keeley mod blues driver >>>> Ibanez anolog delay >>>>> British AC15.
I'm really not a fan of any particular pedal maker - in fact I did not like my distortion pro at all. But I know this company is about strat tone and I play a strat....
what this pedal is NOT good at - rhythm crunch, growl, aggressive - for all my bridge PU rock, old school rhythm tones the modded blues driver is absolutely my favorite ( after 40 years and probably a hundred pedals). It is also NOT the 'holy grail single pedal outstanding rhythm tone then step on the other button for leads' pedal.
what's really good about it: the sweet, stinging strat tone - both FM and vintage are great. This is as good a TS clone as I have ever heard and for a good price.
WHAT THIS PEDAL IS AWESOME ABOUT: The mosfet boost tone in combo with the overdrive ( both lights shining at you ) is absolutely wonderful !! great squeels with pinch harmonics - blooms into controlled feedback nicely ( this is a challenge with a strat - easy with a humbucker but doesn't compete with the complex harmonics of single coils so I don't care ) This is my bridge PU lead tone for a long time now. BUT - I switch off the Keeley and stomp on the fulltone in one clever foot move. - I'm not willing to give up the Blues driver rhythm tone - previously I kicked in a carl martin hot drive for leads ( I used that for at least 5 years ) - the mosfet has replaced it. It has a nice 9 volt sweet tone also - 18 volts squeels better. It is noisy but so what?

No problems getting a great sound, but needed to spend time and experiment a bit to get the best from it, but it has very useful controls which give lots of flexibility. I wanted a top quality overdrive with a boost function, rather than buy an extra pedal in the chain. This is just the right pedal.

Fender Strat with Texas Special pickups, Gretsch 6120 with Dynasonic single coils. Typical noisy single coil pickups and some noise from the pedal, but I will try a regulated power supply as recommended in the manual. The Full Drive 2 mosfet is a great sounding unit, can be very bright if needed, but my amp accentuates this and obviously a lot of work has been put into retaining the tone of the guitar through the pedal. I use a Fender Deluxe reverb reissue amp which has a bright sound anyway

For over 30 years I've played rock, country, blues and rockabilly, not thrash or metal..this is not a pedal for thrash metal players, it is a versatile overdrive to fatten, boost and break up your tone. I can't fault it, but with my Gretsch, I had to dial the tone right back. I feel it is really the perfect Strat overdrive pedal. I have an MI Audio Blues Pro overdrive too and I think the Fulltone and the MI Audio are the two best overdrives going around, but the Fulltone has more functionality and flexibility.

8 just because its a good idea to read the manual to get the most out of it.
Overall really easy to use with the knobs. What you do want to do is read the manual first to see what the different toggle switches do, otherwise you'll be missing out on a few different effects that this pedal can perform.
This isn't a one trick pony like a a TS, the drive control sounds awesome all up and down the sweep.
Tone control as other reviews have stated can get very bright, but again it's more of a presence control rather than a treble bleed off, so it can get quite piercing if not controlled.
Volume and boost are very usable, the sweep of the knob gives you different usable levels all they way up. not just a low, unity, and loud volume like some pedals have.
As far as the different toggles go, I find myself using all three for different sounds. Vintage is great for bluesy stuff with some crunch and a little less fidelity- but in the good way.
FM with low drive is a really good rhythm sound if you want very light breakup. turn the drive up and kick in the boost and its heaven and pushing towards a light distortion pedals with some good harmonics coming into the mix.
CompCut is interesting, didn't use it for about a month but now i find myself using it on the softer stuff just to add a touch of sparkle to my sound.
As for the MOSFET and Normal switch the difference between the two is amazing. I Tend to use Normal with the Vintage position and MOSFET for the FM. Mosfet adds more volume and pushes your sound through the mix a lot more than the Normal setting, as well as adding a little more harmonics to your sound.

Sound Quality is superb.
Some have called this a TS remake....like every other overdrive seems to be nowadays. It's more of an actual overdrive that can mimic the TS sound...and make it better. You have more options at your feet.
Works very well with my H2O chorus. Had my Small Stone going before this for a while, but recently switched it to afterwards. My previous overdrive had to be set after the Small Stone because otherwise all of the growl was lost in the Stone, but with the Fulldrive i opted to switch it back and the growl stayed in the mix without getting muddled.
If you spend a little bit of time you really can get any sound you want out of this thing other than down right distortion or fuzz, but every kind of blues and rock drive is possible with this guy.

Four knobs: Volume, Tone, Overdrive, Boost - a 3-way and a 2-way switch, and a couple of on/off buttons - for an overdrive box, it's not the simplest, but they all have a purpose and add to the flexibility of this great pedal. Intimidating at first, but not difficult to get onto - and once you do, you will find your sound.

One of the best overdrives in a box I've heard so far - and I've heard many over 40 years of playing guitar. I play through a Fuchs ODS 50 (why would I even want a distortion box?) - yes, the Fuchs is incredible, but there is another voice in the Fulltone that rivals Fuchs quality, while providing another notch of flexibility. I keep the Fuchs clean, and let the Fulltone do it's thing - kicking both in at the same time is not happening. The bypass on the Fulltone is true, and does not color the sound of the Fuchs. I easily get all the Dumble-like, Carlton, Ford tones till the cows come home - Fulltone and Fuchs at their best. Can get metal sounds, but probably be better off with a Marshall for that.

Built like a tank - the metal housing is tough - just feeling it in your hands you can tell it's the real McCoy. The sound is quiet and clean - no harsh noises, hums, or buzzes - even at fairly high volume levels. Pop the hood and underneath are highest quality components and workmanship you'll find anywhere. I see no reason for this unit to ever have a problem - should last for many years of regular use.

Sounds good with the Fulltone Clyde Deluxe wah - another great pedal. I would replace it if stolen or lost - over time, it's become addictive. I also have a Zendrive, which I like and still use - for me, these things are like a mechanic's tools - so I use them all, both live and recording. The Zen and Full-Drive are similar in tone genre, but each have their own unique voice - I think the Full-Drive is a bit more flexible.

Although the Full-Drive 2 has a very simple layout, it can take days of tinkering to get the right tone. As stated, the layout is simple and direct with volume, tone, overdrive, and boost knobs, with two toggle switches. These allow the user to toggle between the types of overdrive, Comp-cut (almost a clean boost - without the boost footswitch activated), Flat Mids (for a nice "scooped" tone), and Vintage. The other toggle switch allows the player to switch between the type of boost desired, Standard or MOSFET. All in all, the pedal allows for a wide variety of user friendly tones.

The sound quality of the Full-Drive 2 (and almost all other Fulltone products I've played) is unmatched. After playing through my Hot Rod Deluxe, using my American Deluxe Fat Strat, and modified Standard Strat, the Full-Drive has never ceased to amaze me with how many different sounds I can get out of it. Like the OCD, the player can roll off the volume on their guitar and get even more great tones, without losing the pedal's integrity. There aren't any "pops" that you get with other pedals when switching the boost footswitch on and off. My only complaint with the pedal is the sheer increase in volume when switching to Comp-Cut with MOSFET boost on. Even still, the tone is amazing, especially when cranking your amp. I have gotten a lot of tones out of the Full-Drive that are hard to come by, such as Bluesbreakers-era Clapton, Buddy Guy, and Pete Townshend (with help from the OCD as well). I have yet to play the Full-Drive on a solid state amp, but I imagine it is more "tubey" sounding than a lot of other tube pedals out there.

The Full-Drive is built like a tank. One of the first things I do with new pedals is take them apart to look at the craftsmanship. The Full-Drive 2 is very clean and organized inside. All of the other Fulltone products I have or have played sound great, but the Full-Drive and the OCD really stand out. Obviously since it's an overdrive pedal it can't be THAT hard to use. The reason I'm giving it a 7 though is because there's too much going on. There are your basic settings for overdrive and boost, then there are two toggle switches. One is a three-way which allows you to select between Comp-Cut, Flat Mids, or Vintage mode and then another to choose between MOSFET and Standard operation. The manual is just a couple of sheets of paper stapled together, but they tell you everything you need to know as well as giving some suggested settings.
Sound Quality
:

The sound quality is great. You can go from a mild boost to heavy overdrive. The Boost switch on the pedal is somewhat misleading. It's not a clean boost, it's actually another gain stage that will give you more gain and sustain. My rig right now is a Les Paul Standard and 96 American Standard Strat into a Fender Super Reverb. My favorite thing about the pedal is that you can still tell I am playing through a Super Reverb when the pedal is engaged. It doesn't change the tone of my amp, just adds more gain.

When I received the pedal, the overdrive switch would not work. I managed to fix it and that's when I got those wonderful tones that caused me to rate sound quality a 10. A little while later, switch wouldn't work again. The glue that held the little contact console inside of the pedal had chipped off or wasn't put on right so whenever I would press the button for overdrive, it would just push that little console right out and not allow it to contact. I'm sending the pedal back to the dealer to get a new one, but when this one gets here I'm always going to keep my Behringer tube screamer rip-off close by just in case.

My other OD pedal is a Behringer Vintage Tube Overdrive which is an excellent value for the money and I would definitely recommend that for people on a budget. If this thing were stolen, I'd be pissed. I'd probably just try to find the person that stole it before buying another one though because money doesn't grow on trees. If I couldn't find the person that stole it I would go ahead and buy another one. I will say though, don't let my experience deter you from purchasing one if you are interested. Very easy to use, but there might be a bit too much going on. Mike packed a lot into this pedal I can't imagine him making another version of this anytime soon, so I think it's safe to slap down your cash for this one. His manuals are well written, but if you are better off just plugging it in and starting with the knobs set low and working your way up...for your own tone.

I like the older version. I could not get any low end out of this thing. I really tried, even with the tone rolled off entirely, and it still felt sterile and cold. I still think this is the best OD/Distortion pedal out there (if you can only afford one), but something's not vibing with me. I first had the orange custom model and I sold it to try the new blue one and they both lacked OOOMPH. I really love the Fulltone Fat Boost, but this is not a full sounding pedal. I pretty much use Eric Johnson strats with Bassman LTD combos and I can't make it work without it making my low end vanish. I think it's a killer price for what you get...a really nice tubescreamer with an additional boost feature.

The Fulltone Fulldrive 2 is a pedal that takes very little time to find your own personal sweet spot. This is a two-stage "gain" and "more gain" pedal. There are basic controls for gain, level, tone, and a boost control for the higher gain side. In addition, there is a three position switch to set two distinct EQ curves or clean boost only, and a second switch to set the pedal into standard or mosfet mode. Every knob and switch makes a significant difference with the exception of the standard/mosfet switch, which is fairly subtle

This is a great rock and roll pedal: No scooped mids or uber gain. Dialing in mild grind to full tilt AC/DC is not a problem, and in every setting the sound of your guitar and amp comes through. The pedal is responsive to touch, volume settings, pick attack and puts out tons of hot sweaty tones. The only fault I find is that it brightens up the guitar quite a bit, and I compensate by turning down the tone knob to about o'clock. Even so, it is a bright effect. The three position clean boost/flat mids/classic is very powerful. The flat mids setting gives a great lean grind and is great with single coils. The classic setting is huskier and thicker, more like a Marshall. Both sounds are very useful, and I switch between both positions frequently during gigs. The higher gain footswitch makes "more" of whatever sound you have dialed in. It does compress a bit making it sometimes hard to have it cut through the band, but the tone and sustain are great. My main guitars are G&L ASAT Classic S models through a Seymour Duncan Convertible Amp and various cabinets. As a said, brightness is a minor issue, but easily tamed by the guitars tone control

I have been playing over thirty years, and mainly focus on Rock, R&B, and Power Pop. This so far has been my clear favorite boost/overdrive pedal. It just flat makes my amp sound better by providing complex, harmonic, but very "honest" sounding tone that does not sound contrived or overly processed. Natural is the best way to describe it. On one wish would be a more powerful tone/presence control to tame its treble boosting characteristic. If you are happy with your amp's clean tone, you could use this pedal and never wish you a second channel.

My background: Guitarist for 30+ years. I plays various Strats (SSS/HSS) into a Koch Multitone amp. The Koch is very flexible and sounds great, but occasionally I want to push it a little extra. I was looking for an overdrive pedal that would not change my original tone much, yet it would give me a nice transparent boost when needed.
There are basically three different modes of operation for this pedal: Comp/Cut, Flat Mids and Vintage. Each mode has its place.
In Comp/Cut it's a clean boost and really adds a nice harmonic boost. With a Strat, you can really get an SRV feel and sound. With your volume rolled back, you can really get a nice clean SRV/Trower/Clapton tone. Roll the volume knob up and it totally Hendrix. I really dig this mode. (Warning: There is a bit of a volume jump here as many of the drive circuits are bypassed)
The Flat-Mid mode is pretty straight forward. Honestly, I haven't used it much, but it sounds good. It really sounds just like my Koch's second channel, so I don't use it too much.
The Vintage mode is very nice. I really have to say this, but in the neck position and with the volume rolled up, I get a very airy, Eric Johnson Cliffs of Dover-sounding lead tone. Add a little delay and you're there. Beautiful!
The response and sensitivity of all modes is great and really allows me to relax when I play without having to 'dig in' to the frets for certain tones. It really makes my guitars sound alive.
Other notes:
I've played through the Koch Multitone for years and I love the drive, tone and flexibility it offers. Since I purchased the Fulldrive 2 pedal, I pretty much set and forget the amp settings and let the Fulltone do the work. I've tried this pedal with various DR-Z, Divided by 13 and a few other boutique amps and it really enhanced their excellent sounds.
I also own a Les Paul that I rarely play. Nice guitar and all, but it never really grabbed me tone-wise. Since I bought the FD2, I've been playing the Les Paul quite a bit.
I have not used it with 18vdc yet...would love to try it.
Note: This is not NOT a heavy metal pedal. It is a nice, smooth and subtle overdrive that will boost what you give it. If you want to play metal, this isn't the right pedal.
I have owened several different OD pedals over the years. I recently purchased a Fulltone OCD pedal. It was pretty nice, but a little harsh on the high end. I tried the FD-2 a few weeks later and loved it. The OCD is nice, but I liked the FD-2 better.

The Fulldrive 2 is a great addition to my pedalboard (Budda Wah, mini-Deja Vibe, FD-2 and a DLS Effects Echo-tap. IT costs about $160 and was well worth it. This is a very reasonable price for the excellent product and tone you are getting. Spend the money, it's worth it.

This is where the problem lies, IMO. The FD2 MOSFET ABSOLUTELY and obviously colors your tone. No two ways about it. It did not allow the natural tone(s) of either the amp or guitar through. I was very disappointed with this pedal. To get any kind of clarity you have to crank up the 'tone' knob which leads to some harshness and much coloration. Very much a tweaked TS-9/808 flavor of tone; unfortunately, I'm no fan of either. Might be great for some but, for me, this was a very underwhelming pedal.

I can only give it a 9 as I've not had it a long time but with enclosure mounted (not PCB) pots, switches and jacks it should be pretty sturdy.

Most pedals get you all excited when you buy them and then two weeks later can't even be bothered to turn them on. Exactly the opposite with the fulldrive, can't imagine playing electric guitar without one now. Every time I go into a music shop and play a boutique amp I always think "How great would this be with my fulldrive?"
Its worth the money and more.

It's an easy pedal to use, there isn't really that many things to screw up with, especially how Mike designed it.
To get an amazing tone...you gotta have a good foundation, and that hasn't been more true when it comes to this pedal. This pedal feeds directly off your original guitar/amp tone combination and just adds to that. If your not happy with what your guitar does going into your amp...then you woun't be happy with this pedal.
big points for the abiliy to use any powersupply between 9 and 18 volts.
The manual is 2 pages long, and is worth the read if you want to figure out more of what the pedal can do.

The quality of sound this pedal emits is amazing. It's truley the first transparent pedal I've purchased. It takes your original tone and just adds the ammount of grind and highs you need to get through the mix. It's what all those people wish their TS9's and TS808's were doing...but actually doing it!
When bypassed, it's incredibly transparent, dosn't add or take anything away that wasn't there before. :P
The really great thing is when you run this pedal in 18v mode if you like to have more clean headroom. I also find it cleans up better when you run it in 18v more.
My rig consists of an early 70's AC30 and various Gibson guitars.

This pedal is pretty good for getting me the gritty, throaty, mid rangey tones that work for most of the aformentioned styles. I use many different distortion boxes (Fulltone OCD, Hotcake, Hotcake Bluesberry, Voodoolab Sparkle Drive, Xotic RC), and this one is of the best in my board...however I may replace it with the GT-500 once it starts shipping.

i think it's easy to spin the knobs & get at the tones i prefer. the mosfet feature does change the texture. you can cut the compression out as desired. just pay attention where you set the tone knob in relation to your amps tone settings. get your amp to play the way you want, then kick in the fulldrive to add the drive

i'm using it with a divided by 13 ftr 37 6v6, the cabinet has celestions. there is no noise. this pedal likes soapbars, but i've found tones with lp's & strats as well. the boost feature comes in handy at times. you can go for a little breakup to some heavy drive depending on where you set the midrange switch.

There is just sooo much in this one little box. This is the Cadillac of OD's....My old tubescreamer is gonna be lonley(more like a Toyota Corolla in comparison).
Using it takes time, I got mine a couple days ago and have just been running it 9v off a roland wallwart. Getting an initial impression, I will submit again once the honeymoon is over and I've gotten used to it for a couple months and have tried an 18V power supply. It comes with a two page paphlet...which I ignored at first, turns out I LOVED the sound of it the way I set it up, then I went back tried the other settings, and they were great too!
Changing the battery is exactly the same as a crybaby "rubber feet screws" But there is a nice thick steel clip to hold the battery firmly in place. I've taken the bottom off a couple times to admire the workmanship inside...nice job guys!

I can get close enough to the sounds of most of my favorite artists without the Fulltone(SRV, Buddy Guy, Robert Cray, KWS, JM3) Mayer mentioning that he used a FD2 ...peaked my curiosity...I wish I could afford the amps these guys use...
I use an ASAT, 62RI/57RI Strats, LP std(w/ PAF's) into a Fender "Twin Amp" Not a 65RI, but the "modern" one that isn't sooooooo damn bright!
IF YOU DON'T HAVE GOOD PUPS, AND A GOOD *TUBE* AMP DONT BOTHER WITH GOOD PEDALS!!! Get your basic pallet right before you color it! What good are crayons, markers, pencils and pens with wet and soggy paper?
This thing smashes the front of the amp....I love it, in all three functions, Compcut is an EXCELLENT clean boost, really makes the neck pup of the ASAT even more dynamic, not as effective on the LP or Strats though, but still yields results far superior to any OD type pedal I've gotten my hands on..The FM mode is great with the LP in both modes; nice smooth rock sound on standard, nice added bite/brightness and edge in MOSFET mode. The Vintage is like a dumbley type sound in the MOSFET mode, very open, touchy, what I've honestly been looking for(without spending 4000$+ on a Fuchs). Sounds like cranked up 6v6's in standard mode, very cool with PAF's.
I find the newer "Twin Amp" are very clear, fairly warm, but very defined and sterile/focused. I bought the amp for what it was, and what I wanted. I am still very happy with it, I can do different things with it that I could not do with a vintage Twin, which is very good at one thing...
Not perfect..but nothing ever will be.

For what I play this is VERY good. I've been playing 11 years, and am well past shred and slipknot/Korn stuff. I still have an Ibanez smashbox for that though ;) Playing with the tones of others, looking for a tone of my own.
If I part with it, I can only hope the opportunity to own another comes along.
For an OD pedal it is fairly expensive, but considering I've only logged 4 hours with it and has 6 great sounds built in and very tweakable, well worth it.
My TS only really only gets one great sound..and it cost the same! This pedal honestly beats the tubescreamer hands down at it's own game, more definition, more boost..then more boost, smoother mids, less harshness, and more sustain, and infinitley more tweakable if you don't like something about a tone you can change it, not just degrade parts of it, or lose boost/od effect.
I would consider a normal FDII if this one isn't avaiable, BUT the Mosfets really make this one worth the money, you basically double the funcionality of an already outstanding stompbox.
Oh yeah...on top of all that it comes with a hotrod paintjob too!! The inside is also painted with the same (quality!) stuff not just the outside!

My fav artsists are Trower, Deep Purple, Santana, Police, Who, Beatles, Zep. I own a lot of great pedals so I was quite curious to see how the FDII MOSFET stacked up. I use Strat w/Lace sensor pups - LP'71 LP Custom w/PAFs - Washburn HB35 w/Bennedetto & PAF HB pups into a Straub Cantus50 head w/Marshall 412 bottom. I own a lot of great pedals including Fulltone OCD, XOTIC AC Booster, Keeley modded Boss DS1 Ultra Mod, Boss BD-2 Phat Mod and many more. Initially, I played with the standard mode because I didn't want to overwhelm myself with too many variations. I figured I will get to know the pedal in standard mode and then once I was satisfied that I had a good understanding of what the Compcut, FM and Vintage modes had to offer, I would move on to the MOSFET mode. Compcut setting has less distortion than FM and Vintage modes. It's more like an overdrive mode. The Vintage and FM offer way more distortion. Compcut with OD at 1:00 - 2:00 adds brightness to my rig and when you hit the strings hard you get a little hair on your tone. Nice transparent overdrive but watch out for the boost in Compcut mode. Turn it way down or yuo will get blasted. FM mode offers nice heavy distortion with not too much coloring. Very smooth and pleasant to my ears. Boost is great to increase volume for a solo. Vintage mode adds midrange and also gets heavy distortion. More like a Tubescreamer but with a much higher quality tone. Both Vintage and FM offer excellent distortions tones with the Strat. I'm sure the LP will sound great through the FDII. MOSFET opens up the sounds in all modes. The range of sounds you can get wit this pedal is awesome. I put the Xotic AC booster in front of the FDII with good results....different textures. My current OD / Distortion chain is XOTIC AC Booster > FDII > Fulltone OCD. Compared to all the other pedals I own the FDII offers the widest range of sounds and BTW it is guite stunning visually. This is a must have pedal. I knew I had to have it after reading through many of the reviews.

In the past 12 months I went on a spending spree because I decided I wnated to enjoy high quality tube tone matched with the best pedals I could find. Certainly there are many I don't own. The FDII MOSFET is my favorite along with the OCD (Version 1). It works so well with the music we play. Someone said it is too transparent nad professinal sounding. I want pedals with the highest quality components so that the pedal oozes quality tones. This is not for metal. Anyone that complains about paying $200 for this unit is crazy. It's a bargain at that price. If stolen I would have to replace it. This baby is pro gear with incredible versatility.

When I first got this pedal I thought "This is it - tone nirvana. I will have this pedal forever!"
However, after using it a while, and comparing it with plenty of other decent OD boxes, I just got bored with it.
It certainly is incredibly transparent, but, to me, it's just too 'pro' sounding - too compressed, too smooth, in fact, too transparent. To get into airy-fairy descriptive territory I'd say it lacks 'soul'.
FYI I usually play a jap 60s reissue strat with upgraded pups through a silverface deluxe on the edge of break-up or a silverface twin.
The OD pedal that kicked the FD2 off my board is a G2D Cream-Tone. That is a 'soulful' pedal.

Sound quality on this model is way better than the regular Fulldrive II. I own four regular Fulldrive IIs and I was very happy, insane over the regular versions for years but the new Mosfet Custom FD-II is plain and simply better sounding. I own two of the Mosfet versions and have A/B'd them to all of my other ones and there is a huge difference. The only way I can describe it is that the regular version sounds more bluesy and little more honky in the midrange and bass. The Mosfet version has more bite, grit and definitely more gain. Whats funny is that it sounds this much better without even using the mosfet settings. Don't ask me why its a mystery. Maybe Michael Fuller is using different chips these days, maybe even though the mosfet settings are bypassed in the comp cut mode there is tonal change for the better just because the FET's are in the circuit creating a capacitance. I don't know but the only thing I can say is that I am getting rid of all my standard FD-II's and getting more of the Mosfet versions. The Mosfet Version is definitely better for leads, metal, hard rock and blues than the older models. The guy who wrote that the old ones and the new versions are no different should go get his hearing checked and his head examined. I only use super good transparent gear such as Marshal plexis through Marshall 4 x 12s loaded with 300 watt EV Black Label speakers. Maybe that guy is playing through some crappy combo or Line Six tone killing non-transparent amp which would make it almost impossible to tell the difference between the two FD-II's.

These pedals are super reliable. I would only suggest getting back-up Fulltone foot switches. If you gig a lot then after a couple years these switches can break but that doesn't mean that they aren't any good. I would do the same for any pedal that is used a lot. I have actually replaced switches in my Fulldrive II's on only a couple of occasions but those pedals had a lot of miles on them.

I am 38 years old and have been playing music non-stop since 8 years old. I am not some wannabe. I have put the long hours of study in and was also a guitar performance Major at one of the top five music colleges in the USA. I own several hard wired Marshall 4 input heads. I am also a Marshall amp tech and know the circuit inside out. I prefer Super Bass Marshalls with a 500 pf bright cap on the volume pot. I also take standard Marshall Super Leads and convert them into Super Basses but have learned that if the Marshall amp's out transformer is not from 1968 or earlier then there is not a thing in the world that you can do to the amp to get good tone. The old trannies are king and are about 95% of the amps sound. As far as the FD-II Mosfet Anniversary model goes its King. I have owned almost every boutique pedal out there and I keep going back to the FD-II for its super clean transparent distortion sound. Nothing is as articulate and natural sounding as this pedal. Its like when you click the pedal on your huge natural amp sound is still there, it does get smaller on you just more overdriven. IMHO nothing can touch this pedal.

I bought this pedal yesterday, because I saw John Abecrombie using a Fulldrive 2 this week at a live show. It took about five seconds (after three minutes reading the two page manual) to get a sound I can't live without out of this pedal. While I fully expect to find other sounds and applications for the pedal, getting to something useful so quickly is extraordinary in my experience.

This pedal is dead silent when it's disengaged. It's got a clean channel that's useful with a "tone" knob that enhances or diminishes treble harmonics in that mode. The "boost" mode is also very clean when used with the clean channel.
I found that just a touch of distortion in clean mode resulted in a sort of super-saturated sound that's quite lovely. I'm not as interested in distortion as rockers or blues players might be, but I played around with the Distortion knob and the various toggles attached to it, and was really impressed the variety of tones that are available. I'm most impressed, however, by the tone knob - getting the setting right on that knob (which, for me, involved boosting the treble harmonics a touch) made the very good rig I play through sound even better.

This is a weird and unexpected match for what I usually play - I mostly play jazz - bebop and after. I only got this pedal because of Abecrombie's show (in truth, I hadn't heard of it until last week) and the tone that Abecrombie got from his custom-built guitar. I'm going to take a lot of criticism from my archtop playing jazz friends (who tend to decry anything but using a mic to amplify their acoustic Benedettos), but I'm going to use this pedal on gigs - I almost always play a Gibson L5 equipped with Bendetto pickups, and this pedal allows me to both saturate the treble tones and use a pre-fixed boost for solos. Couldn't really ask for more.
As a side note, I hooked this pedal up to my tele (with Joe Barden pickups) and played it through my Fender Hot Rod Deville - mostly screwing around with Stevie Ray Vaughan tunes. I'm betting that's probably a more typical rig for the market for this pedal. I've played through tube screamers, maybe 6 Boss distortion units, etc. in prior bands, and this pedal makes all of the others seem completely lame - it's a must for a blues or rock player.

This pedal, nor the non Anniversary model are your average OD/Distortion pedals from an ease of use stand point. They are EXTREMELY flexible and provide a wide variety of tones so it stand to reason that it would be a little more effort to get what you want out of it. Plus there is a Boost functionality built into it for stepping out of the mix for a solo or other uses. Even with this flexibility this pedal is not difficult to use in my opinion and anyone with some playing experience under their belt will be fine with it. If you want simple get a Boss OD-3. But if you want flexibility in spades, plus great workmanship (hand wired!) and tone to die for then this is your ticket.
Controls:
=========
Volume - Adjusts level of both OD and Boost channels
Tone - Adjusts presence for both channels
Distortion - Adjusts distortion level (clipping) of OD channel
Boost - Adjusts boost and added distortion level(s) for Boost channel
CompCut/FM/Vintage mini toggle switch - Selects between the three main operating modes of the pedal. CompCut limits the clipping of the output stage, providing more of a clean boost effect. FM provides VERY transparent OD/Distortion that lets your amp keep sounding like your amp. The is no loss of either high or low end whatsoever as is the case with so many TS-X style pedals. The Vintage mode gives you a more TS-X style of OD if you want it.
MOSFET/Standard mini toggle switch - Selects the style of output stage transistor clipping you want between MOSFET and germanium transistors. MOSFET gives you a more full sound, especially in the middle to upper tone frequencies.

All I can say is WOW! This is the way I want my overdrive to be. It is exactly like I would have made it myself. My prior pedal(s) for OD/Distortion were a ToneBone Classic and Hot British. Those pedals are really great pedals mind you, especially the TB Classic. But the Fulldrive 2 gives me something those two, or any other I've ever tried for that matter could not; true transparent operation. I have a '65 Deluxe Reverb RI and a '59 Bassman LTD RI amplifier, both of which I dearly love the sound of. But I don't want to make myself deaf getting to their sweet spots either. The Fulltone Fulldrive 2 let's both of my amps sound exactly like my amps if I want to, except with a touch of a warm fuzzy circle around the notes I play. Of course I can set it to give me the classic Tube Screamer midrange hump too if I want to. The secret is in the selection of the mode. CompCut (compression Cut) mode gives you a very nice, clean boost with a little distortion if you want. Excellent for country picking and that kind of sound, plus the boost really gives your amp's front end a kick in the preamp in this mode. The Vintage mode is the Tube Screamer style OD and it is a good one. Very nice tones all over the place here, and the Tone knob is very useful for giving your upper end as much sparkle as you might desire. The FM (Flat Mids) mode is absolutely awsome though, and is designed to be extremely transparent while giving your tone the edge you want. I absolutely LOVE this mode and when kicking the Boost control on, I get nice, saturated distortion to solo with. Excellent!
The MOSFET output stage found on this model employs Metal Oxide Semiconductor Field Effect Transistors (MOSFET) as opposed to the more widely used germanium type. The Standard output stage gives you the same setup as the non Anniversary model using germanium transistors to achieve clipping. Both of these output stages are excellent in their own way, and they can be mixed and matched with the other modes (CC/FM/Vintage) to give you a LOT of options.
So while this pedal is a bit more involved to use, it gives you any type or style of OD/Distortion you could ever want plus a Boost mode for soloing or a second OD/Distortion sound as you prefer. Through in a 3PDT True Bypass switching arrangement and it sounds just as good when you shut it off so you can just enjoy your amplifier. Honestly, I haven't found a non-musical tone in there yet, but then again I don't try for the outer reaches either. In my opinion, this pedal is what OD should be.

I've heard horror stories about dealing with Mike Fuller. My own take is very simple on this -- I don't care. It is his company and he can run it as he sees fit so long as he honors the warranties of his products. There is a local guy here the same way as I have heard Mike is and that kind of this just doesn't bother me as long as I get what is promised in the brochure. I know that he makes high quality stuff and that lots of serious musicians use it including a few of my favorites so whatever he may be in terms of personality is paled by his product's reputation. Good enough for me, so benefit of the doubt here too.

WHat can I say, this is the pedal I should have bought first. I am not a "boutique' kind of guy and so I never bothered to try one. Big mistake, happily now rectified. I play stock Fender amps (Bassman LTD RI, DRRI) with mostly stock Fender American Strats and a Tele. I have a 2002 AmSe Strat with CS69 pickups in it, plus a stock AmSe Tele, a 50th Anniversary AmSe Strat with CS54 replica pickups and a 50th Anniversary AmDlx Strat with SCN pickups and S-1 switching in it. I only use the 50th AmDlx Strat for playing with my Worship Group at church because of the huge sodium lights there. Otherwise, I am very much a single coil guy, right down to the prefernce of non-RWRP middle pickups in my Strats. The Fulldrive 2 sounds good with all of my guitars. Even the SCN's which I am not thrilled with sound good with this pedal, and that is saying something.
The Fulldrive 2 is great sounding, flexible to a fault and hand wired with excellent build and component quality all for $200 -- a bargain in my book. If you can't find one of these pedals, the standard Fulldrive 2 is nearly as good, missing only the MOSFET output stage selection. I cannot recommend this pedal highly enough and I am now looking forward to when my local dealer gets a Fulltone OCD in stock so I can check it out!

The two basic functions (OD and BOOST) of this pedal make it a no-brainer to use. The "manual" really consists only of a few pages of instructions, but who needs that anyway with the controls all being right in front of you. My "manual" has some incomplete sentences, showing me that Mike writes these chapters himself without ever proofreading them afterwards. I'm buying a pedal and not reading material. Editing the tones of the Fulltone 10th Anniversary pedal is limited to twiddling with the controls. The white control knobs (nice vintage feel) are easy to see, even in semi-darkness. The two mini-toggles are kind of delicate, but you will see that I don't fiddle with them much. And of course there are the decent size red OD and yellow Boost LEDs: Can't make a mistake there -they are located right next to the super-nice stomp switches.

Yes, I can easily get the tone of my favorite artists: Take Sonny Landreth, for example. Recently I saw Sonny live and knew immediately where that tone came from: there was a 10th Anniversary pedal glowing in the dark, my suspicion was confirmed by the Sonny's technician. First of all: The pedal is never noisy, even with Boost and OD fully dialed in. A dream of an overdrive pedal. I'm using a Strat through a Fender Blues Deluxe RI (clean channel) -and there is no doubt in my mind that this pedal challenges you as a player: It's all in your playing now, you can't blame the pedal our your instrument anymore. With a few gentle tweeks, you will be in tone-heaven. Here is what I found as my favorite setting: Volume set to "whatever", Tone -to your linking, OD anywhere from 12 to 3, Boost -as you like it. Now the OD settings. I use only one: MOSFET and VINTAGE both engaged -there is nothing better in my book, and I would be just as happy if the pedal only was hardwired this way. Absolute Bliss. Responsive, throaty, mellow, creamy... insert your own superlatives here. I love it and will never part with mine.

I have confidence in Mike's engineering skills, and the pedal itself feels substantial and well though-out. However, I will probably always have some kind of backup pedal -Danelectro's Daddy-O works for me, but it cannot compare with the 10th Anniversary superior fell, its incredibly mature tones and almost violin-like sustain.
Judging by the apparent workmanship: yes, I believe in Fulltone's reliability.

I have never had to deal with Fulltone, or Mike. But I can imagine that the success of this pedal and its simplicity invites all kinds of nuts wanting to chat with the good people at Fulltone -which would drive anyone up the wall. Winers should just buy a POD, or another Boss pedal.

Playing mostly Rock/Blues, this pedal is absolutely essential to good tone. I've played for over 40 years (stop giggling), and owned a lot of junky pedals. The 10th Anniversary OD pedal seems to be my last OD pedal ever. Wish I'd had it sooner, but honestly I was a little reluctant to shell out over $200 just for an OD -Wake up, try one. It is well worth it. Totally transparent when not in use, quiet like a mouse, throaty tones galore -The pedal should ship with every Strat or Tele. Or maybe not, because since I got mine, I don't really care that anybody else gets the same gorgeous tones so easily.

First off I have given this pedal excellent ratings throughout so just to clarify, I *don't* work for Fulltone! And in the past I have not been shy of criticising their products, notably the Mini-Dejavibe (weak sound) and the earlier Fulldrive 2 (too compressed in the boost channel).
Anyway, so ok there are a few knobs for an overdrive pedal, but set everything to midway and you instantly get an excellent sound. From there on you are just tweeking gain and tone levels and flicking the odd toggle switch to see what happens. How hard can it be? There is a manual, but really the pedal is completely intuitive.
Sound Quality
:

The sound quality of this unit is exceptional in my opinion. I had an earlier Fulldrive 2 and loved the normal channel but found the boost channel too compressed and lacking in bite to be any use live, well the mosfet version gets rid of that single criticism instantly. This is not a noisy pedal, and the overdrive/distortion sounds are exactly what I like.
I am using this pedal with a Gibson ES-335, Mesa Boogie Subway Rocket and F30 amps, and Planet Waves cables. I also have an Akai Intelliphase in front of the amp and an Akai Headrush in the fx loop. The Fulldrive Mosfet is way better than the overdrive channel on either of the Boogies.

I have never had a problem with Fulltone gear (in the past I have used Fulldrive 2, Fatboost and Mini-Dejavibe pedals with not a single issue). I can gig without a backup as both my amps have overdrive channels (not as good as the Fulldrive, but there if I need them).

I am currently playing guitar in a 9-piece blues/jazz outfit so am using mostly clean and mild overdrive sounds, with the occasional higher-gain solo. Being the only guitar alongside a brass section and keyboards I need to be heard without but being too noisy and the average stompbox overdrive just doesn't have the clarity I need. The Mosfet Fulldrive does it just right for me and has bags more gain on tap if I ever want it. It also gives me the confidence to take just guitar and pedalboard to gigs where I can't use my own backline for whatever reason.
If this were stolen I would get another one instantly.

I use the following. G&l legacy strat, soon to have anderson pickups, american tele with fralins and a b/bender, and a les paul with classic 57's. I run into a valvulator, ernie ball volume, budda wah, carl martin compressor, fat boost, the fd2, a line 6 mm4, and a roland SDE1000 delay, all into a boogie mark I sset clean. All cable is fulltone and George L. I've had several of the fulldrives over the years, and haven't found the right combination of guitar and amp to work with them, until now. I'd been using the hermida zendrive, which is a wonderfull pedal, along with a barber Ltd, and several others to get the variety of overdrives I need in my cover band. We do everything from Al Green to No doubt, so I need a lot of options available. I also do a lot of Gospel work so I play out a lot, and need reliable gear. I tried the fd2 mosfet, out of curiosity, not intending to buy it, but to see what the fuss was about. I was absolutely blown away. The fd2 and the boogie are a perfect match. I'd gotten a bit of harsh high-end with a fender twin reissue and an older fulldrive, so I had been turned off, but with the mesa, it just sings. I used it for a short tour last week, and never touched the other three od's on my board. Now I have downsized the rig, and taken a lot of junk out of the chain, something I'm always greatfull for.
The mosfet option really opens this pedal up. It adds just a bit of a top end shimmer and gives the tone a bite, not a sharp edge but just something that makes you stand out a little more in a mix. I love it with my strat and tele, it seems to make them come alive. I can get a pretty close Robben Ford tone with the tele, and my gibson with the fat boost engaged gives me the larry Carlton tone, thick and fat.

This is intrinsically a not so easy to use pedal, due to the incredible versatility and room for tweaking it offers. You have 3 modes, 2 types of operation (Mosfet or FD2) and 4 knobs to temper with so you can spend a few hours dialing in sounds.
Having said that, the thing justs drips with tone in almost any setting. This is a great tone-shaping tool.

Not noisy at all and capable of turning my Marshall into a Fender Super (FM setting). I can get any number of sounds from this but it seems to be better matched to my Strat than my LP. It sounds very good with the Gibson but it really kills with the Strat.

Excellent tone tool, with an amazing flexibility. I use it mostly for mild overdrive and cleaner tones and it really makes the guitar sparkle, especially the Strat. If you need some TS-like distortion switch over to Vintage mode. If you want more of a Fender amp tone, switch over to FM. Thicker, more distorted tones can be footswitched on the second channel.
I have a bunch of other distortion pedals in my rig, all set up for different things, but when compared to the Keeley DS-1 Ultra, for instance, the FD2 has a more rounded and high-quality sound.
If you need to cover a variety of tones with top quality, I suggest you check this baby out.

Used with a Fender american tele and Gibson LP. Mostly through dr. Z amps. Probably the best sounding overdrive I have used.
Love the different settings (vintage, FM and comp cut), and it gives a quite different gain and eq with each. The cc is more like a boost. Vintage is a modded TS sound. The FM is my favorite (probably because the Z amps have a lot of mid on their own).
Noise level is very impressive.

Not alot differnt fom the fulldrive2, these mosfet switch adds some variations, little more bottom definition and a bit more clear in the drive area. Still produces this high frequency in the upper mids that you really can't dial out. Thats really a problem with both all fulldrives. I took it to a gig and tryed it but ended up not using it. That upper trebly sound thru my tube amp just irrataed me also there is a bigger volume jump in the boost side in mosfet mode, thats ok in some sittuations, not in others. So i swithched back to my a/c booster and bb. And sold the Mosfet.

this pedal does sound great but it takes a while to get there. maybe its all the boss pedals i wasted my time on as a kid, i don't know but i just can't get used to these small pedal makers (and fulltone definitely is in this category)making a pedal where the Knobs actually do something. through their entire range the controls are useful. but i still want to believe they start at 12Oclock. if you like me insist that 12 o'clock is "unity" then you will get frustrated. another thing is that both the tone control on this and my OCD pedal is basically just a treble (and some upper-mid) control, and both of these pedals have treble to spare. so my rating is based on the pedal and my stubborn unwillingness to adapt quickly

sounds great once you get a feel for it, once again i think that mike, i believe his name is, at fulltone favors darker sounding amps and tests all these pedal with these said amps. therefor he gives people like me with a 65 twin way, way too much treble. My amp already wants to be a 100 watt tweeter so i definitely don't need any help with that. but once you realize that you are allowed to turn the tone knob down(i know it's hard)i found the tone that i wanted. the gain knob is equally responsive so far i haven't played it over 3 o'clock and this gives me a nice natural od. the boost is so useful and it goes from med to high gain. with a lot of boost it sort of sounds like my OCD but not as good bass response(the OCD has the best high gain distortion I have ever heard from a pedal and most amps due largely in part to the bass)and it is as quiet as a od pedal can be. i play through a gretsch semi and a ameri-strat. with the hollow i like the flat mid setting the attack seems faster and with a gretsch i like that, and with the strat the vintage setting because i think srtats need the mid-hump, both with it set in mosfet position. this and my keely comp. are in love i think.

This sounded exactly like I hoped it would sound.
I use a Warmoth Strat with Lindy Fralin Vintage single coils into a Mesa Boogie Lonestar Special (EL84s) 1x12. My amp has a lot of drive options, but I was looking for a good drive to use in conjunction with my clean channel.
I had owned an OCD and a Fulldrive2 (blue one with the FM option). However, I was looking for something in between. The OCD sounded a bit thin with my rig (good clarity though)...The std/old fulldrive2 had a nice slight mid boost(even on FM mode), but lacked some clarity and lacked lows a bit.
The fulldrive2 10th Anniv. edition turned out to be perfect for my rig.
You get an ever so slight mid boost (which I like), without sacrificing clarity/feel and lows.
I use this pedal in FM mode and Mosfet mode.
With all of this said, I can only speak for how it reacts with my specific rig.... and with my rig, it is definitely a winner!!

Personally, I am glad to see that he is engineering more "control" type options in his pedals.... for example, his website shows that the "plexi 100" will have bass, mid, and high controls.
This really allows his customers to be able to fine tune to their rigs.

It is easier than I thought to get a sound out of it. If you start at 12:00 with the knobs and put it in fm mode and mosfet with the swithches, you aren't too far from getting an ideal sound. Better yet, just use the sample setting in the manual which has values an hour or 2 away from 12:00.
The manual explains all the features well but doesn't try to predict what might happen with different pickups like single coils or doubles. If you know how to get your amp to sound good, the rest is easy.
Sound Quality

I used it live with a Strat with Joe Barden pickups and a Reverend Hellhound and various other pedals. It's very quiet with a battery or a power supply. I find that its good to set the volume at 11:00 which seems to be a pinch above bypassed level. I set my amp so there is a slight breakup in the bar chords but a nice chime in the high triads.
At first I thought it sounded to dark but I found that at a gig it really cuts in a big warm way. It responds well to picking dynamics.
The sustain is awesome and the harmonics really kick in when you have the overdrive set at 9:00 or greater. I like having the new mosfet and standard option which to me, loosens up the sound in mosfet and tightens up in standard.
I was using a Reverend Drivetrain II but I was biting with too many highs and punishing the front row. Now with the Fulldrive, it just sings like a violin and I still get enough bite.
I reccomend walking out 10 feet in front of your rig, turning around facing it before you think it's too dark. What you will hear is big, round, and beautiful but not necessarily stringy but that's ok. I usually think something sounds good if I can hear brash compressed highs which is good if you are recording "Nowhere Man" but after hearing this thing at stage volume, I quickly re-adjusted my criteria.
You can stand in front of your amp with without being shrilled to death. Also, even though it sounds warm, I can still hear it well with my back to the amp. It's just nice to know that I can crank the hell out of it with out killing anybody.
I would have to say that this pedal has a character of it's own but I haven't heard a lot of newer amps or a Dumble. I would say it's closer to a Vox AC30 than a Marshall or a Fender. I can stand in front of a loud AC30 but not most Fenders. I have to give it a 10. If you want more bite you can turn off the clipping and use the compcut feature but you will want to turn down the levels because the pedal doesn't clip but gives you 2 more levels of clean boost.I'm sure it will clip your amp input. I'm going to try using this setting with my Gibson with humbuckers as they easily clip and compress with my amp set the way it is but I may not have to.

I like the way that when I go to use it, I know it is going to sound good. I only have to deal with my ideas and taste. I did try a whole bunch of boutique pedals when I bought my Java Boost but not this pedal. I just plugged this into my amp at the store for 10 minutes and that was enough.
Get a good clean sound that chimes and barely breaks up and this pedal will work great for you. It works well with your amp driving a little hard too. I can never recommend setting an amp too clean unless you have to strum full chords all the time. But even then, I'd rather just turn my guitar volume down. Try it!

Not as simple to use as the blue, FM FD2 w/ pull knob for comp-cut that I used to have but that's because this one has so many options via switches. Getting a particular sound is not very easy because the many options can complicate things... it's like ordering coffee at Starbucks for the first time (latte vs espresso vs americano, cafe vs frapp, tall vs short, cream, non-fat, etc...). Manual is pretty basic; I wish it had more info as to when certain settings would be useful for.

My amps are Fender Blues Deluxe and Tech21 TM60. Guitars are Tokai 54 Strat, Tokai 56 Goldtop, Fender blackguard Tele, Fender 69 Thinline ri. These gtrs and amps work very will with the FD2. The extra flexibility allows you to match settings with the guitar and amp you are using at the time (and with the music you play). I can get light OD for Freddie King, Otis Rush, Albert Collins, and SRV, slightly more for Albert King or classic blues-rock, or way more dirt for classic hard rock (Led Zep, etc.). With comp-cut I just boost the tube amp for natural breakup. Overall, lotsa great tones in here.

I bought this because it had a lot of functionality and thought it would be an improvement over my blue FD2. Well, it is. I researched for several months and compared it with all the other dual channel ODs in the market. Bought a Tim together with this and almost bought a ZIM too. I think those three are the best in their class (dual channel ODs).

I've used Fulldrives for a while, then took them off my pedalboard in favor of going straight into the high gain channel of my Marshall. When we switched to a better PA system, I started to use smaller amps mic'd thru the PA, so now I use this thru a Fender Bassman reissue retubed with KT66's. Any of you who use Fulldrives don't need to be told how they sound. This one has the extra presence and grit that the Mosfet switch allows, plus the nice compressed midrange of the FM switch. It really is a nice combo.

I own quite a few different kinds of guitars, but I am drifting toward using a strat for everything. The pedal board has a Wah, a Keeley compressor (for feedback when needed), the Fulldrive, a Klon Centaur for high gain distortion (there is no comparable product to this), a TC Electronics Chorus/Flanger and a Hard ON pedal to boost volume for leads. The signal then goes to a Fulltone Echo unit and a tube reverb, and finally a BBE Sonic maximizer at the end of the chain to kick the signal into the amp. It's a very nice pedal to give you a gritty overdrive that is resposive to how you pick and how you massage the sound with your tone control and dynamics. I don't use the Boost much, preferring to use the Klon for that.

Mike Fuller builds very reliable hardware. They stand up to the normal amount of road abuse. I carry my own instruments and pedalboard to and from gigs, so I avoid the usual horror stories. I am told by others that he's a bit of a primadonna, but that has no effect on me. If something breaks, I usually get it repaired by somebody I know and the many Fulltone products I've used over the years have yet to break for me.

See above. I am a bit of a jerk when it comes to things that arrive broken. I return them for a refund and get something else. No second chances. Fuller's products are batting 1000.

I play rock, blues, R&B, swing, country and pop. Our current group has been together for over 10 years, but I've played out for over 35 years. The Fulldrive is a very reliable pedal with a predictable sound that suits the guitar into small amp situation. I have tried every conceivable type of overdrive pedal, and the only thing that's consistently better is going direct into a Marshall Head at high volume, High gain with four 12 inch speakers. While that's fine for 10% of our gigs, the other 90% are clubs and large rooms that need less firepower and more tasteful tone. So, I'll give this pedal a 9 out of 10.

this unit is very good at getting alot of different, useful sounds, right out of the box.sometimes it's better to disregard the manual's suggestions and strike out on your own.in this way,you find sounds that are useable to you in your particular type of music, the thrill of discovery,if you will. makes it easier to make your mind up quicker as to love-it or leave-it.i feel this pedal is a vast improvement over the old fd 2.

single coils sound great=nice and jangly to thicker, warmer tones.boost switch is icing on the cake, and has control for amount of boost added=very nice.humbuckers don't need as much juice normally but boost switch is nice with a good lespaul.normally used with grosh strat with fralin pups, eric johnson strat,or 59 reissue lespaul into 2nd channel of a mark 1 boogie.not noisy, and can dial in a convincing SRV tone easily.i have found certain effects work better with certain amps(klon with blackface amps for ex.)but i've tried this pedal in front of bogner metropolis,as well as Dr.z maz amps and blackface fenders, and all respond well.the comp cut setting is fun to fool around with, especially with the lespaul.the addition of the mosfet switch gives another sound(a little more edge)when needed.a very useable pedal overall,a good choice in OD.these aren't cheap, but you would spend alot of money on other ODs trying to get this many sounds

this pedal can cover most styles of music, obviously it can't be all things to all people,or it would be a cure for cancer-haha.(i also own a fulltone OCD,but it has never done much for me,different flavors for different folks).if i somehow lost it,i WOULD buy another.i have tried and buyed alot of the ODs out there(klon,od-808,ts-9,hot chili tubester, modded boss and keeley, sparkledrive, various SIB stuff, mena, etc)and try to stay on top of cool equip out there, but i have to say this pedal is the best i've found for getting alot of different useful sounds right out of the box.you can find more sounds by fiddling with it,which is nice, but it's easy to get the good stuff right away.and it doesn't hurt that it comes in a pretty package.

Even though there are quite a few switches more than on other pedals, you'll get pretty easy to your wanted result.
Unfortunatly mine came without a manual, so I can`t say anyting about instructions.

I use it with an Epiphone firebird and fender 2x12 stagelead amp. The true bypass works perfekt. This is truely one of the best overdrive pedals money can buy. I also have a TS-808 and they really match together perfectly.

Fulltone effects are one of the most dependable in the world. A friend of mine used his Fulltone 2 without srewing the back on after looking for a battery. He giged with it for more than 3 years and it`s still working. So?

At first I was a little thrown off by the switches...and I didn't know mosfet was an acronym...but after I read the manual everything made a lot of sense. Unlike a lot of pedals...the switches on this sucker actually make a huge difference in sound and tonal quality. On others that I have tried out, they seem to just tweak the sound a little bit and make it a pain to even have switches on the pedal.
So...given that you have and ear...and if you have gotten this far you know how to read, I will rank this one a TEN.

I found the overdrive pedal and laugh at all others who have something different. My fulltone is being played through a 93 strat...(don't know what kind of pickups are in their but I am pretty sure by the punch they have that they are aftermarket) into a hotrod deville 212. The effects on this pedal are brilliant! Every phase has a truly great sound that doesn't leave me hanging. I can go from SRV to pearl jam to STP to...well...alot.
The sound quality is unmatched mostly because of it's versitility! A lot of pedals that have equal range don't have the integrity at each level that this one has. ei...Ibanez turbo.

I am in an LA rockband called Manixview, sadly I bought this pedal after our last album was recorded and I can't give you a sample of what it sounds like...YA its perfect!
I have been playing guitar for about 13 years...I own a **** load of gear...and right now as far as pedals go...I love this one the most.
This pedal...just as I had to do with Temple of the Dog...I would buy many times over if it got lost or stolen...even broken.
This fulltone addition makes it so i can relax about getting that perfect sound...and focus on making music.
If you are into buying crap over and over until you find something cheap that you like, go ahead and get something else and spend too much money. I am into buying things once!

First off, all you guys must work for Fulltone.
I am deeply sorry for buying it.
Reminds me of the old Sam Ash fuzz box i played with as a kid in the 60's.
It Buzzes.(and only with battery)
I have a '57 braz. les paul, a 58, and aPRS cus 24 with pearly gates, a marshall plexi, and a jcm2000, assorted cabs.
Honeslt, I get better sounds with a Johnson J station.
Also, these toggle switchs won't last a month. cheapo's.
And you would think for over $200., you get an ac adapter!

There are a varriety of controls all of which you can read about on fulltones website so... the important thing is that the sounds are very usable and you will have to fidle around with it to find what you like best. Not hard to use if you had an FDII before or any OD for that matter. Manual is short simple and good.

OK He has finaly done it the only pedal that sounds so great in front of my victoria and fullertone that I must change my if you could only have one pedal from the BBE Sonic Maximizer to FDII Mosfet 10th!!! Its so great that it doesnt even sound good with the BBE in front of it. It's like it has one already built in. Good clear note definition. I use the Mosfet and FM mode ( both of the new FDII inovations to come along) and the sound is just what I like. It is very vesatile probably the most of any pedal I have used ( ouside the nasty sounding digital stuff ) all kinds of sounds from blues to clean boost twang.

I am guessin any reasonable guitar playing judge would give you 20-30 for taking one of these.

So many knobs and switches!! The secret to this pedal is not to look for the setting you like the best, you'll be there all day. This pedal is very usable and sounds fantastic. Spend some time with the controls and make sure you try several different guitars.
The Manual is helpful. Thanks Michael.

Overall, this pedal is unbelieveable. It's fantastic for soft to moderate overdrive, and sounds good in front of any amp (even my digital modeling backup). I would give it a 10, but I am in love with my OCD. I pretty much keep that one under my pillow.
