Very easy to work with. Manual not really necessary.

Jerry Jones double cut ( or my 20 yr old strat ) - vibe - expandora - expandora - lovepedal echo - gibson GA15 RV ( English - ? 11 years old
( sometimes my 1965 AC10 ) - thc chorus is obviously the best setting - My favorite Vibe setting is that slower speed and subtle intensity - just slight motion. Of course who doesn't like Trower. Vibes are always touchy with distortions - my old MIJ expandoras are the best I know of.
This sure does the basic vibe sounds but where it lets you down is at gig volume ( transistor based effects always show their underwear at higher volume )

Reliability : 10
seemed very solid

I have played since I was a kid - now in a cover band doing all the campy stuff people dance too. - Don't use vibe on a lot of songs ( mostly funk, R+B ( Leslie good here though ) old school rock. But once in-awhle I want that sound. Other vibes I tried were - wiggler, Lovepedal, voodoo and finally I did it right and got the effectrode. The deja vibe was the second best I think - but at high volume NOTHING come close to the effectrode - something about the tube warmth. The fulltone held its value pretty well - sold fast on ebay.

very simple, chorus and vibrato with vintage/modern sitches and volume, intensity and rate. Like the large rate control, can be used with the foot which saves squatting down allthe time to change it. Flashing red rate light is good too. Instructions are sooooosimple and clear as well, but you shouldn't really need them to be honest :)

Sound Quality : 9
i really don't know what other reviewers are complaining about. i use this with a les paul, original 1984 marshall jcm800, fulltone full drive 2 mosfet, ehx memory man and vox v847 wah. It gives me no buzzing problems with my humbuckers, the volume is just fine, although does need a bit of tweaking to get no volume drop when switching it on and off. It gives me the perfect hendrix/trower/gilmour tone on vintage chorus mode. Swooshy, throbby, simply perfect. Also has that great 'washing machine', trower like tone with overdrive. However, the vibrato side is a little lacking in intensity - it's got to be on full to get SRV'Cold Shot'like sounds, and even then it's not quite enough. But hardly use vibrato anyway so doesn't matter too much for me.

Reliability : 10
This thing is built like a tank. I'd certainly depend on it.

never had to deal with them :)

This is a great vibe pedal, in my opinion beats many others like the voodoo labs micro vibe, mojo hand luna vibe etc. However i think the bob sweet mojovibe is pretty close. But i'd still stick with this one. If it was lost or stolen I'd definitely get another one. Awesome. A little pricey though.

Ease of Use : 6
Easy, but you need to have the volume and intensity knobs maxed out if you're using a guitar with humbuckers; anything less and the effect is greatly diminished.

Sound Quality : 5
I use it with a Gibson Les Paul and a Fender Twin Amp.
Nice and quiet, but the vintage chorus setting doesn't sound very strong; even with the volume and intensity knobs maxed out. The effect does seem stronger when played through a clean channel.

Reliability : 6
Solid construction. I wouldn't use it for a gig because the effect is just too weak.

Customer Support : No Opinion
I haven't dealt with Mr. Fuller, but I've heard enough negative stuff about him that I wouldn't even even consider it.

Overall Rating : 5
Been playing guitar in bands for thirty years. I'd get a different vibe pedal if it were stolen or lost. It's well built but not worth the price. It just doesn't have much "throb." There are other vibe pedals out there that blow this one away.

Ease of Use : 7
Easy to use - if you use single coil pickups. If you have humbuckers, impossible to use.

Sound Quality : 1
I'm going with a 1 in this category for a very specific reason: THIS PEDAL DOES NOT WORK WITH HUMBUCKERS. There is a kind of buzzing or overmodulation when my LP's volume is at 10, especially on the lower strings. I emailed Fulltone, who asked whether this also happens with single coils. I replied that it was only with humbuckers - and then they stopped responding to my emails. So I returned the unit and got a new one, which had exactly the same issue. So, if you prefer humbucking pickups - you have been warned.

Reliability : 1
You can depend on it if you play single coil pickups, yeah. Otherwise, not so much.

Customer Support : 1
Terrible customer support. I mean, if you're going to ignore my emails, at least avoid them all. But stopping responding to my emails once I explained the problem - shows me they know this is a problem and they're avoiding it. Fine, but then Fulltone doesn't get to keep my money. Sorry, Mike!

Overall Rating : 1
JUNK! If it said on the box that the pedal only works with single coils, I'd give this a 9 or 10. But it doesn't. And I am really annoyed at having wasted all this time to figure it out for myself.

Ease of Use : 10
I think this pedal is very easy to work. But for anyone that has never used a vibe pedal it takes a little time to move the intensity and speed nob just to find that "sweet spot".

Sound Quality : 10
I have used the in the past a Marshall Regenerator and the Voodoo Labs Mini vibe and hands down this is the best of the three. I have always loved that Robin Trower "Bridge of Sighs" tone and this pedal nails it! As far as I know Trower is using this pedal in his rig.

I haven't had any issues ike a few of the other posters...No drops in volume. There is a volume knob, so turn it up a tad...Not sure what that guy was talking about???

So far no jammed toggle switches, but I have only owned it a week! LOL! Also my manual says there is a 5-year warrenty, so if something is wrong you could send it back???

Reliability : 10
I'm gonna give it a 10 for now but I do have one concern.
http://fulltone.com/stpframe.html

To make this as real as possible to the original Vibe pedal, Fulltone uses the same photo cell and bulb layout to get the realsitic tone. My question is "How long before the bulb inside burns out?" Now I did contact Fulltone on this and the answer I got back was that the tech told me he has owned his for 7-years with no problems...I guess time will tell.

Customer Support : 9
Again, I have asked questions via email to Fulltone and the longest I think I had waited to recieve an answer was 48hours, which with most companies is standard now. Also if I have a prolem that can't wiat I pick up the phone and get them on the line.

Overall Rating : No Opinion
I play mainly blues and a little classic rock. I have been playing for 30-plus years now and consider myself a semi-pro.

I discovered fulltone just a few months ago when I picked up an OCD pedal. I am becoming a big fan of this company and the products they put out.

Well as long as this bulb doesn't blow out in a middle of a gig and the vibe stops working I'm sold (time will tell)......Right now in this point and time yes I would replace it if it were lost or stolen.

You will have to play with it for a while to get a real handle on it, but it's nothing too complicated

Sound Quality : 8
It's supposed to be based on the exact specs of the original univibe? I don't know what the original sounded like, but this one sounds good to me. I think it was perhaps a bit overpriced, but what do I know? The only gripe I have with this unit is that unless I run it in the effects loop, my sound starts to fart out if I pick too hard. For the price I paid for this thing, I find this unacceptable.

Reliability : 8
Other than the farting, which may or may not be a defect, it seems pretty well built. It actually looks very well built.

Customer Support : No Opinion
I did email fulltone to inquire about the farting and they emailed me back telling me that it may be a capacitor or something? (it was a while back and I don't remember?). I discovered that the problem can be solved by going through the effects loop, but still, for what I paid for it, I expect the best.

Overall Rating : 8
I don't get excited about this unit? I think it's overpriced and the farting is unacceptable. I'm considering selling it. I don't hate it, not at all. I just think I will use it as much as I thought I would. If it were lost or stolen, I probably would not replace it with any vibe pedal. I have an EH phaser that can give me swirly sounds, so I think I have it covered? maybe the pedal will grow on me? Bottom line is that I'm not all that impressed, but in all fairness, I don't impress easy.

Ease of Use : 10
Very easy to use. Simple pedal with on/off, input/output. You know the drill. IMO less is more with regard to intensity and speed.

Sound Quality : 8
Sound Quality: is very good, however, on the Chorus vintage setting (univibe), which is the main setting that I believe most players would buy this pedal ( for it's the Hendrix / Trower type sound ). However, on this seeting there is a noticeable enough volume drop when pedal is turned on, even with volume turned all the way up. IMO, this is a MAJOR flaw in Michael Fuller's design. I returned this pedal, because in a live situation, this flaw renders the pedal useless for me, as I don't want to have to deal with volume chnages when switching the pedal on & off. IMO, volume unity s/b somewhere between 1/2 & 3/4 on the volume knob so that there's some room to fine tune this setting. To me, this is a big deal for playing live. Modern setting sounds good ( not my cup of tea - too much treble ) and there is no problem with volume drop on Modern Chorus seeting. On the pedal I had, volume unity for modern was about 80-90% of full dial turn. I did not try Vibrato settings, since I recognized the volume issue with the vintage chorus setting ( setting I bought pedal for) and wanted to return the pedal right away.

Reliability : No Opinion
I suspect pedal is reliable. Looked well made, and Fulltone generally has a good reputation, in this regard.

Customer Support : 1
For support, have to rate the lowest, since I recieved no answer to my inquiry. Mr. Fuller ignored my email regarding the volume issue, since, he's apparently selling enough of these pedals. From other reviews I've read about Fuller, I'd guess that he believes that his design as is, is good enough, and should not be questioned. Hence, I returned mine, and will be checking into the Bob Sweet version of a ;univibe' pedal, or possibly the Mojo Hand Luna-vibe, which from what I understand does not use the internal Photocells...., so I am a little skeptical that it will give me the true 'Trower-like' vibe sound that I am looking for. Although, the "You Tube" demos sound very nice.

Overall Rating : 7
I am giving it a 7 because if volume drop is not an issue for you, the sound is excellent. Would have said 8 for overall, but support was non-existent. Michael has a good rep for making really good sounding & professional level products. Value: Personally, I'd rather see a pedal that's just the univibe setting ( modern can be there for those folks who like a bit more treble on the sound ) and leave off the 'vibrato, as I don't think it matters to most. And, make the pedal a bit less expensive. The 9V power supply seems well made, and has heavier wire than a 'Boss' 9v power supply for example. If, the volume drop issue was taken care of, I would buy one of these pedals, as is, for the univibe sound, and just ignore all modern & trem settings, because they are easier to come by than most of the other better 'univibe' pedals.

Is pretty easy to use, only a few switches and knobs. i like that the rate knob can be turned by your foot, really good feature.

Sound Quality : 6
It was good, but not THAT good. I can compare the vibrato and chorus effects to my Line 6 Modeler, which is not saying much. it gets by, but than again if i wanted to get by i wouldn't be dropping $200 for a pedal.

Reliability : 7
Yes, but no. it tended to be power hungary in different situations. there were times when i would turn it on and it would sag my overdrives (depending where i was playing).... doesn't play well without an isolated power supply (how I eventually solved the sag prob).

Customer Support : 1
Impossible. The vintage/modern switch got jammed in one position, and i emailed fulltone. Nothing. Made a phone call.... nothing... ended up buying some replacement parts from china (not honorable, but i tried the US routes and nothing). I didn't want a free part, i just wanted the part number or where i could get another switch like the one that was in there. Ended up replacing both switches with the imported ones because they didn't match when i replaced. It actually sounded better with the new switches, adn tehy weren't improved quality. maybe the broken switch was sucking power or tone somehow? I don't know cause fulltone wouldn't help me out.

Overall Rating : 5
I play rock fusion stuff and i couldn't get it to work for me. if i had my choice i would go back to my PH3 phaser and just set it slow over using this chorus. Literally, i wouldn't reccommend this pedal to anyone, esp for the price, i don't see what all the fuss is about. I probably got a lemon, but again, couldn't get a response from CS at fulltone.... buy it from a good shop and make sure there's a warrenty.

Ease of Use : 9
This is probably my only "knock" on this pedal, but to make it right would mean to just buy the Fulltone Deja Vibe 2 and take up more space. The knob is "toe adjustable" for the speed which translates to the pedal and that is OK for most people, including me. Still, it takes a bit of getting used to. getting a GREAT sound out of it is easy enough because I don't think there are any bad sounds in there. It is easy enough to figure out in any event -- just flip the switches and turn the knobs until nirvana strikes!

Sound Quality : 10
This is what a great univibe clone should sound like. It pulsates very seductively and adds that certain otherwise elusive sound to your pallet. I am NOT a modulation user in the general sense. I have no chorus or flange pedals and the MXR Phase 90 I have rarely if ever got used. Only when I felt like tripping back to the 70s or playing some funk would I add it to my chain. That's because these pedals don't really satisfy me. But the Mini DV is so buttery and smoth and downright sexy that I use it way more than I thought I would. It does not surprise me that Robin Trower uses this effect on nearly all of his music because it is easy to fall in love with this effect. So if you are like me and crave the univibe sound, this is the pedal you want. Yes, they are rather pricey at $249 but you really do get what you pay for in life. Making music is important to me -- it defines who I am really even though I'm not a pro. So if it is important to you, you won't even think twice about spending the cash on this pedal.

Reliability : 10
I have 4 Fulltone pedals, namely the Fulldrive II MOSFET, OCD, Clyde Standard Wah and this one. I have had absolutely no problems with any of them. They don't pop when you engage them and they don't hijack your tone when they are off. They are all built like tanks and aside from taking a baseball bat to them, you would be hard pressed to hurt them. They carry a 5 year warranty in any case. I know a lot of folks who have Fulltone gear, and only one of them has had any trouble. But that pedal has been shipped off to be fixed.

Customer Support : 7
The guy I know who had the issue with his Fulldrive said he had some difficulty getting an answer back concerning the issue. Apparently at first, the support department tried to tell him it was caused by his using George L cabling. I thought that to be weird personally as I consider George L to be top flight stuff and use it exclusively myself. I have the same pedal as he does and have no such issues even though I use more pedals (and hence more George L cabling) than he does. So I replaced mine with his and the same issue appeared as if by magic. The issue is that the sound was cutting in and out, fairly intermittently when the pedal was engaged. After a 14 year career in electronics, to me the answer was simple - it is a bad 3PDT switch plain and simple. If there is one consistent knock on Fulltone as a company, it is the manner and attitude with which the occasional issues are handled. If they can improve on that, they would gain an even more stellar reputation than they already have. I was less than impressed by what happened with my buddy, so I have to mark down here but yet they are actually fixing the issue so you decide for yourself...I give them a 7 on this.

Overall Rating : 10
This is one great sounding and well built univibe clone folks. If you dig the sound of Robin Trower, Jimi Hendrix, SRV and others who use this effect, this is the pedal you want. I did compare this (although not side by side) to the Voodoo Lab Micro Vibe, the HK Rotosphere and the Boss RT-20 and there really is no comparison to me. This has everything you need and nothing you don't want in a univibe clone including great sexy, seductive and vibey sound, zero noise, no transient pops or clicks and pristine tone when disengaged. What else is there?

Very easy to use - 3 knobs (volume; intensity; speed) & 2 switches (chorus/vibrato & vintage/modern). There is a manual but you don't need it.

Sound Quality : 10
Great sounding exact clone of the original Univibe. Like the original it's the 'chorus' setting everyone uses & it's that unique swirly Leslie/phase shift Univibe sound.

I use it mainly with a Gibson Les Paul & also a Fender Strat, into a modded Fender Blues Junior.

Perfect for Hendrix / Trower / Gilmour sounds and less swooshy than a straight phase pedal. The sweep has a slight 'V' shape like the original.

The pedal is very quiet & as well as the standard 'vintage' mode, there's a 'modern' setting which is brighter.

Reliability : 10
Built like a tank (as are all Fulltone pedals) & pretty small (especially when compared to the original) approx 15 x 10 x 4 cm. Would & do usewithout a back-up

Customer Support : 10
Excellent customer support - everytime I've emailed Fulltone I get a very quick response from Mike Fuller himself. Mike has a great direct & robust no-BS manner & is passionate about his products.

Overall Rating : 10
Great pedal! I play rock/pop/blues & have done for about 30 years. I had a Voodoo Lab micor vibe but it was crap - don't bother with compromises (Mike Fuller doesn't) & buy this if you want a Univibe clone.

This pedal is very easy to figure out. I plugged it in and had incredible vintage sounds within a few seconds.

Sound Quality : 10
First, let me say that I've been looking for a good vibe pedal for the last year or so and I've tried (and owned) several of them. I'll get right to the point....this is THE vibe pedal to own. Yes, it's a little pricey, but once you hear it, you'll have no regrets.

I was looking for that particular vibe sound (ie: Trower, Gilmour, Hendrix, etc.) and this pedal is IT. Of course, in design, it IS the same pedal as the original. Mike Fuller and the folks at Fulltone have done a superb job recreating this pedal!

It is extremely quiet and does NOT affect your original tone. The True Bypass is truly quiet and clean.

Reliability : 10
This pedal is extremely heavy duty and built to last. I have no doubt it will survive the road. Fulltone also offer a 5-year warranty. Enough said!

Customer Support : No Opinion
n/a - Haven't had to deal with them.

Overall Rating : 10
I play all kinds of music, but primarily classic rock. I've been playing 30+ years and have owned tons of gear and I know the difference.

My signal chain = Various custom Strats --> Budda Wah --> Mini Deja Vibe --> Subdecay Liquid Sunshine Overdrive --> Koch Multitone 2x12 Combo Amp (and a G-Major in the effects loop for delay only). I try to keep my rig as simple and true as possible and the Deja Vibe fits in perfectly, both size-wise and sonically.

I've tried a few other vibes. The Vood Micor Vibe was not bad for the price, but sonically, nothing compares to the Deja Vibe.

The only recommedation I can say is this: Spend the Money, you won't be disappointed. Some things are worth it. This is one of them.

Very easy to use. Instructions are included but you don't need them. Just keep your ears open and tweak to taste.

Sound Quality : 10
For the price you pay (...as the saying goes, "you get what you pay for") it's rich and sweepy. I'm a Hendrix freak and this does it. However, it does cost a small fortune and with that in mind if you want to go a step further get the DejaVibe. The DejaVibe actually has the real-time pedal to control the speed on the fly...of course, the price keeps climbing. You could pay less and have the VoodooLabs Microvibe do an adequate job, but once you try a Fulltone product you'll notice that you'll just have to pay the price if you want "real-deal" sound quality.

The miniDeja will sweep as fast or slow as you want it to and it's realatively silent. The Microvibe does not. However, the micro is over $100 less. So, there you go.

This is a good deal for the money even though it's pricey. Rationalization: If you do end up tiring of this unit you should have no problem selling it used and getting most of your money back...I think? But if you're a vibe-freak like me..ala, Hendrix, Trower, SRV...it's a keeper.Although it doesn't have the foot control like a wah, I think you'll live. The large rubber knob is easy enough to turn with your foot and you can't beat it's overall size.

pretty easy. standard vibe pedal. i'm sure by all of the other reviews you know whats on board here. kinda wish the manual went a bit deeper in explaining the pedal. i have the stereo version and was surprised the LED doesn't switch off or dim (prefered) when the pedal is bypassed. so it leads to guesswork once in a while when your copin' a bad jam and wearing hearing protection. otherwise simple.

Sound Quality : 10
took some tinkering with my board setup. Gibson 59' reissue > fulltone gold cable > HBE psilocybe > HBE mimic 2 > Zvex johnny octave > dejavibe > Fulltone FD2 > Analog man Ts9 808 mod > Zvex super hard-on > Marshall 1959SLP (cabinet w/ greenbacks). THe sound is great! Can do the subtle vibe thing but when put through my analog phase shifter, the tone beefs up a bunch. The tremolo is cool on this thing too. kinda grabs that Audley Freed Black Crowes kinda sound.

Reliability : 10
had it 4 months. no problems. make sure you use it before any of your gain units because it makes a HUGE difference.

e-mailed the tech on with some questions about the bypassing LED and they wrote back the next day. Which in this day is practically unheard of. so i don't understand any of this anti-mike fuller banter i see. fulltone took the time with me to make sure that i knew how to use their product. which means alot. especially since these same questions i asked one of their retailers took them forever NOT to figure out.

Fulltone Clyde Deluxe Wah, Dunlop Jimi Hendrix classic fuzz, Octave fuzz,Fulltone Mini-DejaVibe,Danelectro Tuna Melt tremolo, Line 6 Roto-Machine, Fulltone Fat Boost,Boss tuner....And my band does A lot of Hendrix,Trower songs and this device suits me PERFECTLY!!!

Easy to use. Volume, intensity, on/off, speed, mini toggles: modern/vintage and vibrato/chorus. The speed knob is big enough so you can turn it with your foot while playing. This feature is much better than the other fulltone deja vibe 2 because the speed is better to control than with a pedal. Here the speed increases gradually. With the deja vibe 2 pedal the vibe pulse changes hardly to control from slow to very fast.

Sound Quality : 10
Use it before destortion or fuzz not after. Makes a big difference. UniVibe never sound like leslies. If you want to sound like playing throug a leslie buy a leslie and a muscular roadie. If you want to sound like Hendrix' Machine Gun or Robin Trower play the guitar in the first place and then buy the DejaMiniVibe. Though originally the UniVibe was built to create a sound like playing throug a leslie it never sounded like this. But it sounded very special and cool. Kind of phasing but not a phaser - kind of leslie but not a leslie. The Deja MiniVibe does this magic "In between Sound".
Turn the pedal upside down and turn the knob at the bottom with a screw driver maybe repeating some same riff. At some point there will be that magic phasing "machine gun sound - bingo". Also I recommend to buy a MiniVibe that is younger than born May 2005 because Fulltone made some technical changes in intensity then. The effect is not weak with intensity at all. The pulse is very deep and strong.

Manual is straightforward and factual.

Giggle, hysetrical laughter, giggle!! Awesome. THE Univibe tone I've been searching for for years. Magic. It really brings a smile to my face this one. :-)
The Dunlop Univibe I recently sold on Ebay so I could get the real deal, doesnt compare. The Dejavibe has that certain something. It's lovely.
Yes it does colour the sound a little and I need the volume on max to balance with uneffected signal. But the Dunlop one killed all the highs - whether on or off. THis baby doesn't.

Just an update on my previous review for this product.
The honeymoon phase is over, and I typically "start from scratch" almost every other week, starting by picking one of my three amps, starting with just guitar, adding a pedal, etc.

The ONLY pedals that make the cut each time are my Ernie Ball volume pedal, and the Deja-Mini-Vibe. I LOVE this pedal and have now had it for a while. I still have issues with the thinness (a good deal because I use it less intensely for most songs) but have gotten around it by either running it together with a tubescreamer with tone control CCW, OR setting the "lead" channel on my two channel amps to be a little bassier. It's not too thin, but this technique improves this for me.
I also use the tone control on the guitar (used to never touch these, but as someone said...they are there for a reason) in clean mode. This pedal is one of the few that consistently adds that little extra...I do sometimes play it with extreme effect, but mostly with it set at less that 12 o'clock.

I'm nobody, but I have played for 30+ years, and I highly reccomend this pedal for anyone interested in a vibe. It is simple, it sounds great and is just one of those pedals you are always glad to see in the lineup :-)

Everything is laid out beautifully on the pedal. As usual (except for the CF1 manual), Mike is very weak on the instructions. I emailed with a few questions and he actually responded within minutes.

If you are looking for that cutting/ripping sound of Machine Gun/Bridge of Sighs, this is it!! Played through:
Grosh Retro > OCD > Octafuzz (slight - fuzz only 8 o'clock) > Way Huge Aqua Puss > Mini DV > really old Hiwatt 50 (extremely re-worked) > Marshall 4 x 12 w/Greenbacks. CRANKED!

Lower volumes did not wow me as cranked tones did. But I did not buy it to play at low volumes.

I actually do not shop other products any more. If Fulltone has it, I buy it! I have been buying Fulltone for 10 years (Octafuzz, CF1, OCD, Mini DV, etc, etc, etc)

Mike's vision actually helps me get accross my music better.

Warning: this is long!

The "manual" is minimal. They really don't go into detail at all, it's a few short pages, and there are no specs (none at all. I had to email them to find out what the pedal draws in power, to decide if I needed another power supply.

Mike answered my email personally, and said it draws about 50 Milliamps.

I am giving low marks (well...actually it still is ABOVE 5 which would be "average" but too many folks in User Reviews start with "it's got three knobs...how hard can it be?" when in reality it ISN'T all that intuitive. Also too many folks are ease-graders.

The problem with these marks are, I think the Harmony-Central categories are too vague (hey...I got a lot of opinions...keep in mind I'm an opinionated SOB) and I FIRMLY believe they ought to have a seperate category for "How helpful is the User Manual?".

This is completely (in my opinion) separate from how easy the effect is to use. A low mark here for "ease of use" might turn some people off, but really when you think about it, it's too simplified. There are some GREAT pedals (this is one type...not limited to Fulltones' product but to all "univibe"-like pedals) that you need to play with for a while to dial in your settings. It isn't necessarily negative.

There are some manufacturers who design pedals so you can't get out to "the hairy edge" with. They are not necessarily for everyone, not necessarily a good thing. Sometimes they are, for some people who want to be able to just plug in and go, but for folk that want a little extra, "ease of use" is meaninless.

Because I have to give marks, and I like this pedal I am giving it an
8, BUT the real breakdown is this:

"HOW GOOD IS THE MANUAL?" - 2
The manual is terrible. A couple of pages, no specs, no tips, just a very brief descripton of the switches and knobs. Usually of knobs that are self explanatory. No nuances. There are other manufacturers that have similar manuals, but a "univibe" type effect is NOT as simple as other effects, in my opinion.
Things that ought to be included in the manual would be like,
pedal order (usually no-one mentions this in their manuals. Where in the effects chaing this particular pedal likes to sit), the fact that the intensity control also affects tone, where "unity gain" on the volume is, how this pedal interacts with other pedals, and not least...what a newcomer can expect (i.e. that the effect itself naturally adds a "sparkle".

"EASE OF USE"-9. once you understand the things I finally found out, being a newcomer to "vibe" pedals, I didn't know how to adjust it. I have been playing guitar for 30+ years, rock, blues, Hendrix, etc. but I have never owned a vibe pedal before. Keep that in mind for the rest of my review.

Sound Quality : 10
I have to give this a 10.

I used it with my Strat, telecaster, and ES-335. I used it going into a Carvin MTS3212. I used it in conjuntion with:
-Screamin' Blues OD pedal
-both Weeping Demon Wah, and Cry-baby wah
-Boss DE-7 Echo
-TU-2 tuner
-many other pedals.

I had a problem that is similar to the reviewer that is just below mine. He thought it was "too thin", and I did too at first. I even emailed Fulltone to try and find out if the pedal might have been out of spec. Turns out that I just wasn't aware of the dynamics of the pedal (that's why I give it a 10, even though I didn't get the sound I wanted out of the box). For one thing, as I said, I am a "vibe" newbie. When I first used it, I used it in line with all my other effects. When I had a great tone, and turned the pedal on, it got WAY too bright. The reason for this was that I had turned down the "intensity" knob to about 9 o'clock. When you turn down intensity that low it DOES get thin and trebly. This may be a setting other people would like. I personally felt it was too much treble. I learned after email'ing with Fulltone that this was natural.

I also believe that this pedal is more affected by other pedals in the chain. That it gets more trebly when turned on with other pedals.

I also give it a high rating because when I adjusted my amp and guitar while the pedal was on, I got some awesome sounds. Pink Floyd, SRV, Hendrix, and more. It was wonderful. The problem I had was when I dialed in the perfect-setting and then turned off the unit it was too bassy (because I had to adjust down the treble).

But after playing more with it, I find that I usually want to set the intensity highter. From about 1 o'clock to full on. There is a happy balance, and that just means you have to spend some time to get to know the characteristics of the pedal and THEN start using it.

It pays to play with these things.

As Mike at Fulltone says, you usually use this kind of pedal pretty intensely, not as a subtle effect. Once I learned that, I started loving this pedal. It really is a fantastic pedal. It has some amazing sounds, and you want to play a while with it to get them.

Reliability : 10
Giving it a 10, because it seems to be really durable. I have no idea how reliable it is, but believe it will hold up.

Customer Support : 9
Mike deserves good marks that he replies to questions. On the other hand, when I first asked if there was some way to fix the "trebly" sound, he responded rudely about my experience with the pedal as "ridiculous. Some folks say it is too dark, but NEVER too trebly".
He added "please don't tell my you ar eusing it in the effects loop"...I wasn't.

BUT I still give high marks because after my initial shock for the response, he has been extremely helpful, guiding me through learning about this pedal. He could have saved himself the trouble if his manual was a little more informative, but that's how it goes.

I DO love this pedal. It is a wonderful thing!

Overall Rating : 10
I play blues, Hendrix, SRV, and have been playing for 30+ years. I love this pedal. It is something I have been after for many years.

Keep in mind I have no experience with other univibe-like pedals so you can't use me to find out if other pedals are better. BUT, I bought this after listening to the CD that accompanied Dave Hunters' book on guitar pedals. This pedal was MILES above any other tested in my opinion, and the opinion of even non-musician folk I know that I badgered into hearing the samples.

This pedal can get some fantastic sounds, like I always wanted to get, but it is not simple. You have to use your ears when you adjust.

Ease of Use : 10
As many have stated below, this is a fairly straight forward vibe unit in that there is a speed knob, controls for intensity, volume, and Mike's custom "vintage/modern" switch. Oh, and the chorus/vibrato control, as well.

I bought it new, the white and crimson font version with the manual, but I've owned so many univibes that I no longer require a manual to figure this one out. For ease of use it is great

Sound Quality : 7
Okay, this is the third and final time I will use Fulltone's univibe. Call me the lone person to blemish the "sound quality" review of Mike's vibe, but I just do not like the sound these units provide.

Perhaps I'm spoiled, but having tried the CAE black cat, PE Vibe Unit, Sweetsound Ultravibe, Deja Vibe I, DV II, this, and the crappy Dunlop vibe, the PE and the Black cat (sweetsound is pretty similar to the PE, anyway) are my two favorite vibe sounds. With this unit, while the vibe tone was there, the sound felt weak to me, and did not mesh well with Jazzmaster or my TSilver 808.

Does this mean it sounds terrible? Maybe, but for me, in an effects world in which every designer claims to have built THE best and exact copy of THE original "univibe" I'm skeptical of anyone who boasts or verifies such a fact. Besides, how many people actually know what they are talking about (aside from MIke) when describing "exact copies" and "photocells?" I'm curious, really. I owned the PE Vibe (and foolishly sold because of money problems) Unit where I was and always will be blown away by that box's tone. It had the sweetest swirl and the most intense thickness I've yet heard in a univibe. With my TSilver 808s going, the tone was chewy and rolled all over the place.

However, I could not get that tone with the Deja Vibe. In fact, I struggled too often to smooth out the overall tone. One person below said it added some brightness, and I believe that may be just the right way to put it: this unit adds a bit of brightness (even the vintage mode) that I did not care for. All vibe units add some "brightness" or "chime" as others have often stated, but this unit did not engulf me or stun my nerves with pulsating swirls or thick whooshes. It was too thin for my tastes--as were all the other vibe units of his that I tried.

Instead, I felt as though it was a great chorus pedal with a phaseyness that dissipated in a loud mix. It just wasn't noticeable unless I was mic'd. And not all of my gigs are run entirely through a PA system. Sigh.

Good sound for what it is, but by far it lacked the univibe sound the Prescription Electronics vibe is most famously noted for having. FYI, just check out the vibe shoot out, and you'll see that the PE was considered by many to be the best, too.
Oh, just in case, a Fender Jazzmaster (P90 equipped), TSilver 808, Ibanez CP-835 II (808 series compressor), Ibanez HD 1000 (harmony/delay rack unit), and the tu-2 into a Custom Vibrolux Reverb or a Deluxe Reverb Reissue. Simple setup but I get great tones from it.

Reliability : 9
I only had this unit for a month, as that is when I sold it away for less than I bought it for. Fulltone products are so revered by many but have some of the worst resale I've seen.

Nevertheless it seems to be built quite well. I used it through several gigs and never had one problem.

Customer Support : No Opinion
I've spoken with Mike before, and he seems okay. Others have said he is "rude" or whatever, but I didn't experience that problem. Though, I was not complaining or whining, either.

I didn't try to get it repaired because it did not seem like a functional problem, and, instead, it seemed more like a design idea that did not work for me. Therefore, no repairs were inquired upon.

Overall Rating : 7
I am not a tech, I do not build these boxes, but I do feel my extensive past with trying univibes has afforded me some room in saying which vibe seems to work best for me.

The PE worked best, and this one did not. I do not like the bright thin tone of the Deja vibe, and so I never could like this unit.

I play roots/indie/lo-fi rock with some bluesy/jazz mixing, too. Aye, that is difficult to specify, really it is. I use a vibe unit for both lead and rhythm work and felt that the mini DV didn't hold its own well enough to warrant a permanent position on my rack. Some feel, with their personal needs for a vibe unit, that this is "THE ONE," though, I find it a bit humorous to hear such a statement. As many have not used all the vibes that could be used, and have not a clues what "THE ONE" even means.
Aside from my snobbiness regarding reviews, I just tried to be honest about my dislike for the mini Deja Vibe and all of his DV products. I just can't dig that tone. Regardless of his boasting about its "authenticity" or 'exactness to the original.' I just didn't see it that way--others may.

Ease of Use : 8
The pedal is fairly straightforward: speed, intensity, and volume knobs, 2 mini-toggles (chorus/vibrato, vintage/modern), and an on/off switch. There is also a tiny screw that is accessed form the bottom that sets the brightness of the bulbs inside. It took me a while to find the sound i wanted (and to get used to the pedal itself as i've never owned a vibe unit before), but throughout the entire range of sounds, i don't think there's a bad one to be found, just some that i don't think you'd use very often.

Sound Quality : 10
This thing sounds beautiful! I'm not a guy who's looking to make "science fiction" sounds with his guitar, i want a beautiful, "pure" sound, and if i use an effect (this is my only one other than echo and reverb) it's to just color my sound a little, not overwhelm or transform it. I use this in the vintage mode, as it sounds warmer to me than the modern mode, and i really only use the chorus setting for that classic vibe effect. I have the speed set about halfway, and the intensity at about one o'clock, and this is the sweet spot to my ears. I've found that the vloume needs to be all the way up in order to match the straight amp sound.
I'm using single coils, and i do think this unit adds a certain "brightness" to the sound, although maybe that's just natural for a vibe, like i said, i never owned one before this one. I've found that i like this best with just straight, clean guitar into the amp, or maybe with a touch of reverb. If i use it with the echo, it seems to get lost amidst the echo sound. I also use it sporadically with my overdrive on (a Fulltone Fulldrive 2), but anything more than some occasional use is overkill to me. I've tried it both before and after the Fulldrive in the chain, and definitely prefer it before.
I will say that i have the Fulldrive set pretty high up in the gain srea, so i'll have to see how well the Deja Vibe sounds if i set the Fulldrive for only a bit of overdrive.
Having said all that, this is an amazing unit. The sound is incredible, and works perfectly for what i want, which is just some coloring of my basic guitar into amp sound.

Reliability : No Opinion
I've only had it for about a month now, but it seems sturdy enough, and Fulltone has a good reputation in the quality dept, so i'm not worried. Besides i'm not dependent on it, so if it broke down during a gig, i'd just play on without it.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Haven't dealt with them, but i've heard they're prompt, and efficient.

Overall Rating : 9
I've been playing for 25 years now, i don't use picks, and the most important thing to me is the sound of my fingers on the strings. This unit retains that sound while also giving it a bit of coloring. It's pricey, but made out of top notch parts, and you get what you pay for with Fulltone. Now that i own this, i don't need to buy any other effects, except for a wah.
peace

If your not going to get the good stuff...don't buy anything. I am not made of money so I had to save up, but...my rig sounds great. No Problem. Just plug it in, and turn the knobs. In Vintage mode, I set the Volume all the way up, and the Intensity a click or two back. I use my foot to change the speed via the very large Speed control knob on the lower right of the unit. The only thing I use the Vibrato setting for is the end section of "Day of the Eagle" (Trower), to get that simulated tape drag effect.

Sound Quality : 10
Fantastic! The upgrades really did the trick. I first tried the original Deja Vibe right before the gold sparkle version came out. When I finally went to the store to buy it, I took it home, and said, "oh, it got a facelift..." I didn't like the looks of it (I thought it was gaudy and pure cheese). Still, I said, you get it for the sound, right? Yep. Still, I didn't like the sound of the gold one. At first I thought it was just my imagination, a psychological reaction to the nasty looking "urine-stained-gold" paintjob, and ugly black rocker switches, as opposed to the clean "purity white" original. I thought the effect itself sounded a bit muddier, and the high end was kind of grainy. It sounded a bit like a bad phaser. I regretted it every time I stepped on it. It was definitely not very inspiring to use. I'd turn it on to do Trower, and that was it. I had a Voodoo Labs Micro Vibe that sounded better - it was warm, rich and buttery (like a good cinnamon roll) without being muddy, and though it didn't do the "Hendrix/Gilmour" sounds very convincingly, it was still a bit more robust than the gold Fulltone.

Well, scrap that now. Mike has redeemed himself once again with this, the newest incarnation of the Deja Vibe. And it's smaller now, too. I tried it in the store, after hearing of its improvements (I was actually looking for a Choralflange, which they didn't have). I was blown away. This thing does Hendrix and then some, and is perfect for anything off of "Dark Side of the Moon". This one is Much more transparent. It's also more powerful, and has that "watery" effect I crave in a leslie type effect (because, after all, that's the sound the original was trying to create). Speaking of which, I tested this side by side with a Hughes & Kettner Rotosphere. That is a real good leslie simulation. Still, it really messed with the sound of the guitar, as it thinned it out and masked it (it even seemed to detract from it in "bypass", even though I think they're both supposed to be true bypass pedals). Also, it had a very grainy digital type high end, AND added quite a bit of noise (not to mention that there was no way to back off the mix of this overwhelming effect). Don't get me wrong, the Rotosphere's chorus effect itself was beautiful, maybe the best I've heard in a pedal, but at the expense of your guitar's tone, and with additional noise (a very noticeable hiss when it was turned on). Not so with the Deja Vibe. I never lost one single bit of the guitar and amp's identity, with the effect either on or off. Never lost one bit of punch. Also, for jazz stuff, I actually think the Deja does a better "organ tone via guitar" than the H&K. It sounds like an old, funky organ at higher speeds, kinda like those old "Jimmy Smith & Wes Montgomery" records. And it even does "Cold Shot" better, for my tastes, than the H&K, which still (to me, anyway) sounds more like a "chorus doing a leslie impersonation" at high speed.

In other words, I really, really liked it. Only the Rx Vibe Unit is in its class, and it's more expensive (and still bigger). I didn't like the Roger Mayer version much. If you're looking for a vibe, do yourself a favor and check out this one.

Reliability : No Opinion
Can't say. But it's rugged and durable, so it should last.

Customer Support : No Opinion
I refrain from commenting here. Though, if there's a problem, I don't doubt Mike will take care of you.

Overall Rating : 10
I don't know what else to say here, except that when I forst got it, I had it plugged in for hours playing it, reveling in the fact that I finally have a really good (make that "great") vibe. "It's got da swoosh happenin!" It also does the best leslie simulation I've heard in any pedal. It's got the big, wet, swampy sound you want, and also all of your guitar's sound (including the high end you lose in the "rich, warm" vibes). Fulltone is right, this IS the real deal, minus the noise and hassles (oh yeah, this thing is dead quiet, no noise), and it preserves the "kerrang" of your guitars, on or off, no questions asked. And you gotta love that.

A small, the size of a Fulldrive 2, Uni-Vibe clone... that just kills! The unit is very easy to use: it has an on/off switch...hehehe! The controls are a large "speed" knob, volume and intensity. It has two small switches that you can choose between "Vibrato" or "Chorus" and "Modern" or "Vintage sounds. It comes with a manual that explains how everything works and includes some suggested settings. No matter how the knobs/switches are set it's just about impossible to get a bad sound out of this unit.

Sound Quality : 10
I had a real Uni-Vibe years ago, then I started playing blues and went the "purist" route... you know: guitar, cord, amp. Lately I've been wanting to add some twists back to my sound and thought... Uni-Vibe! My main guitar is a 46 year old Les Paul TV Special, I also use a '62 335, a Relic Strat and a Relic Tele. Ampwise it's a '66 Super Reverb or a '66 Bandmaster head into a 2x12" cab. I also use a Split-Front Blockhead '63 JTM45 clone into a Blockhead 2x12" with G12H's, Blockhead 2x12" 18 watt. For small clubs I use a '65 Deluxe Reverb. Signal chain is guitar, clean boost(Fatboost or Zvex 2in1), distortion (Fulldrive 2 or Direct Drive SS), sometimes a Fuzz (Fulltone '69) then the Deja-Vibe and at the end is a Fulltone Supa-Trem... which is a totally addictive pedal. The unit isn't noisy at all. There is no "weak" sound to the pedal, although I've found the volume knob has to be dimed to make it match the strait amp volume... the volume knob kinda acts like a "cut" knob, it's no big deal. Sound wise... it sounds "like records"... all your fave Uni. sounds are here with NO compromises whatsoever. Hendrix, Trower are instantly on tap... this thing just NAILS the old Uni-Vibe tone. There are some "sick" sounds on this thing though... in the modern/vibrato setting, with the intensity all the way up, the pulse detunes with each wave (like a good vibrato's supposed to!) which lends itself to either Lonny Mack or Robert Ward tones... just the ticket for swamp rock! All in all, I mostly use the vintage/chorus setting with the intensity knob about 3/4 or the way up for the classic Univibe sound. This thing does exactly what I hoped it would do... totally happy!

Reliability : 9
The first one I bought didn't let any sound pass through when the effect wasn't on. I brought it back to the dealer the same day and he swapped it for another one, which is working fine. I've had no problems since then. Fulltones are made by real live human beings, by hand, so you gotta expect that every once in a while something's gonna give... no big deal. I've used quite a few other Fulltone effects on the road over the last few years and never had problem one with them. Gotta give it a nine, just because the first one didn't work.

Customer Support : No Opinion
I've never had to deal with them.

Overall Rating : 10
I play Blues, R&B, Soul, Jump Blues and Rock and Roll. This effect isn't a "absolute must" part of my sound, but it's great for throwing something different on 'em every once in awhile... it's really invaluable for that. It works so good when we're playing a Curtis Mayfield type Soul tune and I want to get a different sound... that's what I mainly use it for. This box does the Uni. sound to a "T" and that's all I wanted. I'm totally happy with it. If it were lost I'd get another one in a heartbeat... it's too much fun to be without!
