I have a THD bivalve 30 and a Fender Hotrod Deluxe. The pedal doesn't seem very noisy to me. It is pretty inspiring and a lot of fun, sounds coming out of this box without a bunch of knobs. I can plug into the low input of the THD and have a pretty modest sound coming out of the speaker, then click on the switch and have a fair amount of "teeth" for what it is: an overdrivey type distortion which doesn't obliterate everything. I think back in the early 70's they would just throw a mic in front of an amp and that was all they had, so they were blessed with the freedom of not having many choices. They were also similarly blessed with a much smaller variety of great amps. But back to my review, this pedal happens to fit nicely in my collection. Time to party on.

I have played rock folk and blues since I was 13. The only other OD I have is a Hermida Zendrive. The tones are completely different and both are very very nice. My main guitar is a PRS Singlecut.

Easyyyy, plug it in a get a nice tone

**bonus marks for being a bypass pedal!

i used a american fender deluxe, ash strat through a marshall DSL100, (1960 4X12 marshall cab) with this pedal in my chain(with a few other pedals, compresser, equalizer, wah etc.). With the S-1 switch on my strat it is very easy to get a nice warm tone on the bridge position. Always sounds great as I do not prefer thin distortion. In my opinion it really gives you a almost hendrix/eric johnson when the drive is high when minimal tone on the pedal. overall, my #1 distortion. (im a solo artist, great pedal that fits my needs, rock, oldies, progressive jazz)

Reliability : 10
I can say i can depend on this pedal, 100%

-I would not tag along another distortion pedal unless it was needed for a specific song/tone.

It is very easy to get a nice tone out of this pedal, just work with the level and drive button to find a nice balance between it.
Too much drive is never good for the audience !

Sound Quality : 9
I play the pedal through a Roland BC60/310 (Fender Bassman copy) and it sounds really marvellous. I play a Custom Shop Telecaster and I get really and old Vox Ac-30 sound out of it with the drive on 9 o' clock and the level on 12.
Only the tone control is less effective but that is negligible if you hear this perfect crunch tone.

Reliability : 9
It is a very reliable and solid pedal, a little bit more expensive but build to last.
Fulltone quality.

I play blues, funk , rock 'n roll, country and rock music.
Escpecially for rock 'n roll and rock is this a very suitable pedal.
I've been playin' for six years now and there are only two pedals that survived and will survive permanently in my case, this one and the Tube Screamer (Ts-808)
As I mentioned earlier, I could use only this pedal with my Tele and amp and control the volume for solo's with my volumeknob on my guitar.
With this setup I don't need no booster or compressor, even delay.
If it were stolen, I would definitly buy a new one (i.e. second hand)

First off, I bought this thing about two years ago. At the time, I was enamored with my old ProCo Rat. The OCD was played sparingly for almost a year. Now, I can't play without it. The Rat is semi-retired. The OCD is very easy to use. Dialing in warm distortion tones is this pedal's specialty.

Sound Quality : 10
The sound quality is top-grade. If set-up right, you can get damn near Clapton-esque sound. You can also pull back a bit to get that nice warm, slight overdrive of 70's era Jerry Garcia. The tone range of this pedal is amazing; heavy classic rock distortion to warm overdrive and everything in between.

Reliability : 10
It is built well. I would feel comfortable without a backup.

Overall Rating : 10
In my playing, which combines elements of blues, jazz, psychedelia, folk rock, and rock, this pedal helps me get the tones I need. I never touch the dials on the pedal, except minor increases or decreases in level. My other effects are just compression, two other distortion boxes, and sometimes a chorus for Leslie simulations. Nestled between the other distortions, the OCD reacts as well as any pedal I've ever played. Through only a 1998 Fender Hot Rod Deluxe 1x12, and playing my Mexican Strat, Gibson SG Classic, or Peavy Predator Strat, I get the tones I want without the interference of all-too-common things like wah-wah's and flangers. I've noticed also that when playing heavier riffs, the pedal's sound for chords stays tight and doesn't morph into undefined mush. It just sounds like, well, the D barre chord in "Feel Like Makin' Love" by Bad Company.

Almost impossible to get a bad sound out of it. Plug and play.

More like a professional "tool" or instrument than an "effect". This pedal makes a great guitar and amp better and a great player better. I have used a lot of pedals and gadgets, including a few Fulltone pedals, and I usually wind up sitting with a frown looking for "the sound". This thing doesn't just produce "the sound" it does makes multiple sounds and does everything well. I actually prefer to have it on when I play "clean" with the drive setting down low because it just enhances my tone. As an overdrive, with drive set low to 11:00, it sounds like an overdriven tube amp. It just sings. As a distortion, with the drive set at higher settings, you are in wailing Clapton and Pete Townsend crash chord territory.

You have to play this one to believe it and I wouldn't say that about a lot of pedals. I've had Soul Bender, 69, and Full Drive2. This pedal kills them all.

Ready to go right outta the box, usual drive/level/tone controls. The drive doesn't quite go silent with the knob all the way to the left, but the bypass is solid true. See more about sound below.

Sound Quality : 9
I'm running this with a Fender Strat SSS, and an Epiphone Wildkat hollowbody (p90's). My amp is an '85 Jazz Chorus.

I gotta say right up front, I've never had an overdrive that has sounded so good with the JC-120 (and I've had quite a few, store brands and boutiques)! I sat in the store last week for two hours trying out every overdrive they had, and this on came out on top over several $200+ models. It's got a rich harmonic saturation, and great EQ that I can confidently say makes my JC-120 compete with my tube amps. Not to mention DUAL VOLTAGE so you can run it at 9 or 18 volts, giving you serious tonal options. You gotta love fulltone for that. I'll knock a point off for it not having the bass response of my ts808, but it's easily comparable because the highs are much more musical when ran through a solid state amp. Go buy one!

Reliability : No Opinion
Only had it for a few days, feels nice and sturdy, and also has some very sexy hand-turnable machine screws on the sides. I'd feel comfortable gigging without a backup.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Haven't needed to deal with them yet, won't rate this section either.

Overall Rating : 9
Great for blues, all forms of rock, WONDERFUL for jazz with the gain down. pre-gain to your tube amp and really make it sing. I would replace it in a heartbeat, because I don't think I would use my solid state amp without it at this point. It would be nice if it had seperate low and high controls, but the tone knob is true to that, and not just a low pass filter (like some green overdrives we won't name here).

Ive gone through alot of pedals. I own a marshall anniversary amp and wanted just something to enhance my crunch setting. All other overdrives colored the tone but this kept the sound the same and added to it!! Thats what I wanted to perfect a tone and not to change it. I thought my amp sounded beautiful for that mild hendrix crunch sound but with this pedal I feel I am Jimi hendrix lol! I love it. No noise and sounds great with my strat and les paul.

Ive been playing guitar for 14 yrs. Ive owned 15 guitars, 10 amps and gone through 50 pedals of all brands for different sounds. These days im playing orange and marshalls. Strats and les pauls. Yep the typical classic rocker. Ive had the SG, the flying V, peaveys, fenders, mesa's, boss, vox, dod, digitech etc... but Ive been sucked into the boutique zone. I want those 60s/70s tones. I want to sound like them off the record! Ive got my own sound going on but I love to sound like my idols...hey that was the point we all picked up the guitar wasnt it? If your rig is great but you feel like enhancing your existing tone-this is a great pedal for it.

This is a distortion pedal with all the usual knobs. It is very easy to get a good sound. It is very musical in that no matter where you set the controls it will sound different but all usable.

Sound Quality : 10
I am using an array of guitars and my 1974 Twin Reverb with the OCD; strat, tele, ES-335, and les paul. The ocd makes them all sound great. I would describe the sound as a juiced-up Ibanez tube screamer without the muddyness. The OCD was my replacement for my TS-9 reissue when I decided it was robbing my tone of the clarity of my other pedals. The drive knob at 12 oclock sounds very similar to my TS9 but sounds great in other positions. I should mention though that my TS9 still focuses the mid range of a lead tone in a way that I like. The OCD has a bit more of an even mid character which is better for rhythm tones. The clarity difference makes the OCD an easy choice for most of my needs.

Reliability : 10
Seems very durable. It is housed in a metal casing and has very beefy knobs. Fulltone will replace anything that might go bad. They are very helpful and generous. I had a knob go bad on my Fulldrive 2 and they sent me a new one fast.

Customer Support : 10
As I said above, they are very helpful and generous.

Overall Rating : 10
I play mostly with classic rock tones and this pedal is a perfect match. I have other Fulltone pedals and my impression is that Mike Fuller, founder of Fulltone, is a huge Hendrix lover. His pedals definitely are going for that tone color but they are made with such great components that you could use this pedal for any style. I have been playing guitar and bass for 23 years and have been so happy to find a company like Fulltone that is making the kind of quality gear that I would want to make. I would for sure buy another if it were lost/stolen.

Plug in and play. simple adjustments and not too many options, just what i'm looking for in a drive pedal.

Sound Quality : 9
Amazing. Gets a little muddy on the high gain, anything past 2 is near unusable (or little to no difference in gain structure) for me and my setup. But is quiet when you mute, and is clear and near uncompressed. I run mine at 18v which is a nice headroom improvement, and am almost always in the HP setting, the LP is nice, but ilike the grind of the HP.

Reliability : 10
Yes. never had any issues with mine.

Ease of Use : 10
This pedal is a straight overdrive - coloring the sound very little. It does have a tone control and an HP/LP switch that offer some level of coloring but it's not like a distortion device, it's not a metal zone.

But that's what I like about it - just an added overdrive with a bit of tone control.

I don't think there's a bad sound in the pedal since its somewhat limited that way - it just overdrives the input of your amp.

The manual, if you can call it that, is pretty skimpy. But then there really isn't much to say about the 3 knobs and one switch.

I don't know which version I have, I bought it in May '07.

Sound Quality : 10
I mainly use a LP Custom, Fender American Deluxe Strat, Ibanez R540 Custom. My effects are: Digitech Vocalist 4 -> Digitech Whammy III -> Fulltone Clyde Deluxe -> Fulltone '70 -> Fulltone OCD -> Fulltone Mini Deja Vibe -> Radial Switchbone -> 1) Marshall JCM 2000 TSL 100 full stack with Lexicon MPX 200 in the effects loop; 2) Fender HR Blues DeVille 4x10 on channel 2 with slight overdrive (I don't channel switch this amp).

I am about at the point where I leave the OCD on continuously. It adds a nice overdrive. I play classic rock sounding originals, not heavy metal, and this is the perfect pedal. I can use the boost on the Switch bone to get an added boost during leads (which affects both amps), or I can switch the Marshall to channel 3 and have it set a bit louder than channel 2 to get a boost during leads.

With this setup, and depending on the guitar and other effects, I can get a decent Pat Travers, AC/DC, Hendrix, Santana/Neal Schon set of sounds. You can check out some of my sounds at http://www.PoppaVein.com.

Reliability : 9
I believe this unit to be very reliable. I have it mounted in an SKB pedal board (see it at http://www.RandyMorter.com).

I take care of my pedals since they cost a bit of money, but it think this one is built to take playing on a stage.

I don't need a backup for this, but I have thought of getting another one because of a repair I needed done (see below).

The one point I'm deducting is that I would really like the unit (and all of Fulltone's units) better if they had some sort of protection around the knobs. I like how many (if not all) Boss pedals have the knobs protected by the raised switch area. I really like some Ibanez pedals that have knobs that you push into the pedal case so that they're completely protected and won't change if a guitar cable is dragged across them.

It's not like the knobs are really meant to be worked in real time by your feet while your playing (they're too close together). And while I appreciate the vintage look of the chicken head knobs, I'd prefer having the recessed knobs like some Ibanez pedals (TS-7).

Customer Support : 10
My unit had a problem when I first got it - the volume knob would cut out completely. I contacted Fulltone by email, explained the problem, and they sent me a return authorization form. However, I hated to be without the pedal so waited over a year before actually sending it in.

I sent it in on Monday, 10/13/2008. They fixed it, sent it back, and I received it on Monday, 10/20/2008 - only 1 week! Fantastic service, if you ask me! The thing works perfectly now - woo hoo!

Fulltone offers a 5 year warranty on their products to original owners (not sure about resale items). I've got a few Fulltone items, and I'm glad to know they stand by their products.

I've emailed them twice regarding this repair and got prompt replies both times. I also emailed them to buy my Clyde directly from them - that took 2 emails before I got a response (which was that they called me and took the order over the phone and I got one of the last white Clydes direct from Fulltone).

Overall Rating : 9
I give the OCD a 9 overall, downgrading one point due to the knobs not being protected (see above). I have the same issue with their other pedals as well, except for the Clyde where the knobs are on the side, their detented, and positioned so that they aren't likely to be affected by a guitar cord dragging across them.

Functionally and sonically, I think this pedal is great. I've had a few distortion devices, most recently an Ibanez TS-7. There is no comparison between the two. The OCD is a nice, warm overdrive. Nothing more, nothing less. Robin Trower uses one and he too says he pretty much likes to leave it on all the time.

Ease of Use : 9
Well, the version I have (V.3, I think) has three knobs and an LP/HP switch. Other reviews have covered this well, so I'll sum up. Each knob is very responsive and they work together very well in tandem, which can make fine tuning this little devil a bit more complicated since altering one knob may mean you have to alter the other two as well. But, that does allow the greatest amount of control, which I personally prefer. The LP/HP control allows you to go from Fendery, low gain OD (LP) to cruchier, more aggressive drive (HP). I use both, but the HP more since I am also running a Zendrive.

Sound Quality : 9
Using this with a Les Paul Vintage Mahogany or Blueshawk though a recently trimmed down chain (RMC3 wah - Keeley Comp - Ego Booster - Java Boost - Zendrive - OCD - Keeley-mod BD-2 (almost a fuzz now) - Retrosonic Chorus - I-5 Delay - BBE Sonic Stomp) into a modded Bassman Reissue LTD with the original Emminence Blue Frames.

I'm not trying for a specific artist's sound, only searching for my own tone. I use my three OD's for different purposes. I think of the ZD as my OD, the OCD as my Distortion, and the BD-2 as a hybrid OD/Fuzz. They all serve their purpose.

I have never had any noise out of this unit, but I believe that may come not only from the quality of the unit, but also my setup. I use only George L Cables (tricky but great), and the amp is quiet as a mouse. Even with the comp on, all's quiet on the Western front.

But here is the real reason I am writing this review. I had bought the pedal based on glowing recommendations on Fender Forum. At first, I liked it, then I didn't, as I had issues getting exactly the sound I wanted out of it. I was close to dumping it actually, but then decided to get rid of the Fulldrive II that I had instead. That's when I went 18v with the OCD. See, this pedal can take voltage from 9 - 18, and I am currently using Voodoo Labs Pedal Power II+ with my setup. All it took was a custom cable from the Labs (which cost a song) and MY GOD, this little thing came alive. The overtone become so much more complex and full, the sound is simply outstanding, and surprising, all the gain on the pedal is still usable. I don't think I could get rid of it now. If you have access to an 18v adapter or a Pedal Power, try this.

I love it now, but I wasn't so gassed on it before adding more voltage, so it gets a 9

Reliability : 9
Had it a year and no problems to speak of, and I am the second owner. Built like a tank, as they say. I don't anticipate it crapping out.

Customer Support : 9
I did send an email to Fulltone once regarding the pedal and they responded promptly, efficiently, and (contrary to what has been said here), politely.

Overall Rating : 9
I've been playing around 5 years or so. I should be better. I've gone from mostly clean playing to more edgy, blues and rock driven sounds. This pedal is outstanding. It's not my blues pedal, I use the Zendrive for that, but for good indie style rock, covers of everything from AC/DC to Smashing Pumpkins, this thing does the trick very well. It's not a punk pedal (which I also dabble in), but it comes close on some settings. Given my recent GAS, I have had the chance to compare it to all sorts of pedals, and after switching to 18v, I'm glad I didn't ditch it. I would definitely buy another if I needed it, maybe try the new V.4. It definitely helps me to make music, possibly facilitating the creative mood. And, it's only like $150, so not too shabby for an OD

Original Version 1 here. Pretty easy. You have to be smarter than a chimp to use it, but not much. Volume, Tone, Drive. The Little switch LP and HP is pretty easy to figure out. LP is for lower gain, boosty stuff. HP is for more aggressive Marshally stuff. Nice variety.

Sound Quality : 10
This is for the 1st version (original). You know, I usually don't write a lot of gear reviews. This is the first one in a year. But upon finding this gem on Ebay, I had to say something. DANG! I am a tone seeker. I have modded pedals myself (still have some), bought modded pedals (Keeley, Analogman, etc.), and have owned about half of the "Boutique" pedals out there. I had always bypassed the OCD. Finally, on a whim I got this because it was a low serial # Version 1.

Am I a fool. This pedal will cooperate with any pedal you put before it or after it and adds no noise, I mean NO Noise to the signal. It is very open, transparent, edgie, ballsy, yet subtle and warm when you want it to be. All with a turn of your guitar's volume knob. It loves tube amps.

I run it 90% of the time now in HP mode at about 12 o'clock on the drive. I can go from just break up if I pick lightly or turn the guitar volume down a bit, to open sounding sweet edgie overdrive with enough guts to nail any classic rock song. Turn the guitar down a bit, Sweet Home Alabama & SRV, put guitar volume on 10, AC/DC & Aerosmith and beyond.

I stack it into an MI Audio Blues Pro or Crunch Box for more aggression and attitude. Talk about sustain. SHHHEESHH.

Anyone who bags on this pedal doesn't know tone, or just has very crappy gear. You can play a Jap Strat into a cheap Peavey and get good tone from this thing.

Reliability : 10
Built like a tank, very good workmanship.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Never had to deal with them.

I waisted a lot of time and money on all different kinds of low to mid gain pedals that don't hold a candle to this thing. I played 2 weeks ago for the first time live with it and the sound engineer said "Dude, What's going on, your tone always rocks but somethin's different. What ever you did, don't change it". And that is saying alot.

If it were lost/stolen, I would immediately fall down and cry like a little girl. Then after I wiped the tears from my eyes I would plot my revenge and hunt down the poor @#$^& with relentless pursuit, shoot him in the nuts and mail them to his mother. Its my security blanket, woobie, pacifier, etc. You see I have become OCD!!!

Using a Fender Japan Telecaster and a Fender Hot Rod Deluxe. No long pedal chain. Just play guitar, and don't want effects to play for me. Excellent timbre and sensitivity coming out of this pedal. Bought unheard upon recommendation. No regrets whatsoever. Use this pedal as a cleanish boost or for blues/rock soloing. Don't want to sound mean, but if you can't get a great sound out of this pedal, either your guitar-amp setup stinks before you plugged the pedal in, or you are a moron. My tele has stock Japanese pickups that are not really that good (awaiting some replacements in the mail) and this little white box still sounds amazing! Do yourselves a favour people. Just buy it. Super simple knobs...booklet included will explain the layout if needed!

Sound Quality : 10
I only want to go in depth in this section as I am SICK of reading some of the bad reviews for this pedal's tone. First off, i absolutely love this pedal...but, just recently since i bought my new amp. I throw this pedal in front of a BadCat Cub IIr now and it sounds steller. I bought this pedal after trying it with a 65amps Soho at a guitar shop around my house about a year ago- when i got home to try it with my Fender Hot Rod deluxe, I was disappointed, but held onto it. with that being said, this pedal is NOTHING special when paired with a mediocre amp like a Hot Rod Deluxe...However, throw this thing before a class a amp, and your head will spin..i mean it is nasty, sounds sooooo good! I can go from SRV tone using this amp as a clean boost, to Jimmy Page/plexi type sounds just by playing with the gain and volume knobs. I will admit this pedal does not sound good with a production amp or a solid state amp....BUT! with a class A amp, It is hard to beat the tone and versatility of this guy! In conclusion, buy this amp if you have a class a unit, but be careful if you have a "normy" amp.....

P.S, I also recently owned an original 1965 twin reverb-- and again, this pedal didnt sound THAT great---it needed the class A circuitry to kick it into gear. (For all you trying this pedal with a Fender amp)

Reliability : 10
Solid metal! I want to also address the individual who said the wiring inside the OCD looked cheap like something on a cheap boss pedal- have you ever seen the inside of a mass produced pedal?. This claim is crap- the inside of an OCD is all hand wired with true bypass circuitry and quality parts- i mean, the inside is signed by the guy that hand built it along with the born on date...come on!!!

Customer Support : No Opinion
No idea, I get the idea from Fulltone's website that the owner is quite fond of himself (does not have a self-esteem problem) seeing how he shows off all is "toys", so I can only imagine it would not be fun contacting them for a faulty product, but again, I am just speculating.....

Pretty Straight forward. There is a "charachter" switch that gives a bit of a boost and different color to the tone.

Sound Quality : 9
This pedal sounds really good with just about any type of guitar. If does what it says but it's not a miracle pedal. Yes, it has great overtones, great drive quality and is better than your average overdrive pedal but it's not that flexible. This is a high gain pedal, not many low gain od sounds out of this one. The tone knob is functional in dialing in/out treble but does not offer a way to alter the ever important mids on the fly. I give it a 9 because it sounds way better at what it does than any of my other consumer grade/non-boutique pedals but is not as flexible as the name suggests.

Reliability : 10
It's a tank

Flexibility is important in a pedal that claims to cater to people obsessed with overdrive. It's also a bit pricey to be a great value.

Simple. Volume/Tone/Gain. HP/LP switch slightly revoices the pedal. It has a wide range of gain available. This review is for the V3 OCD.

Sound Quality : 7
First off, I mainly use a US G&L Legacy (Strat) into a lightly modded Fender DRRI. I also have a Peavey Classic 20, and have run this pedal into my friend's Bassman LTD several times.

This pedal is very hyped and very popular. I certainly see why some of the hype is there. The best things about this pedal are how dynamic and responsive it is. It really feels like you are playing out of an amp, which is what it was designed to do. All the frequencies are there and it's pretty balanced (no huge mid hump, plenty of bass and treble). It is very amplike. HP has more chime to the highs, and more volume. LP is darker. I like HP more.

The downside is that I'm not a huge fan of the timbre or character of the gain. It's hard to describe, but in a certain way it has hints of a fuzz - expect this is an OD/Distortion, so that's not a good thing. This is exacerbated with humbucker guitars. It's not particularly smooth and it can be a bit harsh and buzzy.

What I like to use this as is sort of a light overdrive/boost. I feel kind of silly wasting all the gain that's on tap, but used with the level up and the drive low (like below 9:00) the transparency and touch responsiveness of this pedal really provide a FANTASTIC low gain sound. It preserves the sonic character of your guitar and amp very well in this manner, just adding a hint of gain.

This pedal is a bit of a paradox for me - the touch responsiveness and feel of it are addictive, the quality of the gain is meh. But it has found a home for me as a low gain boost/OD. It's not perfect, but most pedals are not strong all across the gain and tone range.

Reliability : 10
Looks very very solid. Nice switches and knobs, heavy metal box, neatly done inside.

Never dealt with Fulltone.

Overall Rating : 7
I like a wide variety of music - blues, jazz, classic rock, some hard rock. This pedal sounds good. It's not the holy grail. It's certainly made very well and will last. I also have a Barber Direct Drive which covers a similar amount of gain but is much smoother and more compressed - I use this for higher gain and the OCD for lower gain. Both are infinitely better than Boss or Digitech pedals and compared to an Ibanez TS9 much more versatile in the ground they can cover.

Bottom line, I like the response and EQ of the pedal but am not enthralled with the characteristics of the gain itself, particularly at higher gain settings. I sort of bought it on a whim which I normally don't do. If lost or stolen I might reconsider but would probably look for something dedicated a bit more to low gain sounds as the Barber has this beat for full-on Marshall crunch, at least through my rig.

This pedal has delivered on every expectation I had! Easy to dial in the tones you are looking for. I use a Strat and a Les Paul with this pedal through two different tube amps; a Marshall DSL 40 watt combo and a Fender Blues Deluxe 40 watt combo. I bypass the internal speaker on on both the amps and run them into a Marshall 2 X 12 cab. The sound and tone are AWESOME! I have the (V4) version four OCD.

Sound Quality : No Opinion
No noise to speak of from this pedal and it is true bypass also so it doesn't change the color of your guitar's/amp's original tone. Very dynamic range! If you want a clean tone, set the drive near zero and the level "to tatste". This will render a punchy and strong, clean tone. When you turn up the drive, you will be rewarded with a beautiful sounding, creamy ovrdriven tone. Unlike effects pedals that are labeled, "distortion" pedals, this is (in my opinion) an OVERDRIVE pedal. Simply the most satisfying pedal (of any kind) I have ever used. This pedal also produces a very sweet sounding, natural feedback - totally ******'! I am happy to the point of eternal bliss. It is the preverbial "sound I have always searched for"! Thank you Mike Fuller!

I haven't dealt with the company simply because I have had no problems. One of the main reasons I looked into a Fulltone product was because of their reputation for building reliable, quality products.

I play mainly classic rock and occassionaly blues. I have played guitar for 25 years and was never truly satisfied with my tone - until now! I didn't compare it to other products because I was completely satisfied with the results. If this pedal was stolen or misplaced I would order another one IMMEADIATELY!!! I know this sounds cliche, but I truly couldn't live without it!

If you are looking for a classic rock sound with a creamy overdriven quality, don't even waste your time checking out other pedals. This pedal is THE REAL DEAL!

Very easy to use and get going with some great tones.

I think this is V3 but it could be 4.

Im using this on my marshall plexi 50w to boost the gain or as a lead boost and also with the Peavey JSX clean tone and Elmwood modena90 clean tone for mild dirty blues. It sounds great for both these purposes.

The effects are not weak at all...very strong but also quite transparent at the same time.

Reliability : 10
Its built really well. My unit is completely solid, heavy and chunky.

Been playing 20 years. I haven't owned a lot of overdrives as I tend to use amp distortion and the marshall I use often is great for dirty blues tones without an overdrive. I wanted a pedal that would help push the marshall in particular at lower volumes when it has les gain (even though its a modded marshall with PPI MV) or to boost thing up with effects in the loop - and also to use with some other amps when they're on clean and I want some mild blues tones. I've found this unit to very transparent and good at doing anything from overdrive to outright distortion even. A couple of songs in my band I set the marshall back to clean and need to switch between a totally or almost clean tone to a gain tone and the OCD can do this, whereas some other overdrives are too mild, or even too much gain. This is spot on. The LP/HP switch is also great in allowing a fuller fatter tone or a more transparent tone. Its a good feature. Compared to a boss overdrive Ive used for centuries its high quality sound...its smoother than a cheap DOD308 I have but not as smooth as Trex Dr Swamp I also own. The problem with the DR Swamp I have is it becomes almost too smooth or too fuzzy, whereas the OCD sort of goes along with what your amps doing.

I dont use OD a lot, preferring high gain amps like a marshall with the volume rolled back, but for the purposes I need this fits the bill perfectly (for the time being ;))

Dead simple to use. 3 knobs - Volume, gain and tone. Input and output jacks, 9V power input. What could be difficult about that !

As for version number, not sure. It's only about a month old so presume a 3 or a 4.

Sound Quality : 10
I use this pedal with 2 guitars. First is a very rare Japanese market only Tokai 1959 replica (not an LS guitar!) and a Fender standard strat). Amp wise, I run this into a Marshall JTM 60 head with either a JTM 2x12 open back cab or Marshall AHW 4x12 depending on venue size. Music wise, I play in a female fronted rock covers band playing stuff like GNR, Led Zep, Green Day, Skunk Ananise etc and this pedal is perfect for the hard rock genre.

I have to say this pedal absolutely rocks. I tried several differrent high end pedals when I came to buy an OD pedal and took my Toka iand Marshall head to the store with me. The store found me a nice quiet booth for me to try a load of pedals out. I also tried a Fulltone Fulldrive and GT-500 and pretty much every Keeley tubescreamer, Keeley Bluesdriver, Keeley DS-1, Boss OD-20 and all the T Rex OD pedals. I also tried a TS-808 for good measure !

I went with the other guitarist in my band so I could both play and listen/tweak the pedal. We were both in complete agreement that the OCD was the best by a long way (the most expensive Keeley tubescreamer was closeish but the OCD was still the clear winner). We probably spent about 2 hours just playig drive pedals of which the OCD probably had about 40 minutes worth of play we liked it so much!

The OCD is very warm and tubelike in sound and although when driven hard, it is very distorted, the clarity and definition of the notes is incredible and everything rings through. I tend to run this on the LF switch (which is quite a bit quieter then the HF so the volume sits around 3 o'clock to match the clean signal volume) which gives more of an 'American' amp type sound as the HF sound is very close to my Marshall so it gives me the option of both distortions for gigging. This pedal works particularly well with a Seymour Duncan pickup booster in the serial loop to jump on for solos.

Reliability : No Opinion
Time will tell, although it seems to be very, very well built so I hope it will be on my pedalboard for many years without issue.

This pedal is perfect for the hrd rock style that I play and if it got lost or was stolen, I would go straight out and buy another one without question or without trying anything else.

Been playing for around 15 years and have owned lots of drive pedals over the years including various Boss, Carl Martin, MXR, Ibanezetc but this one is definately the best of all - like a tubescreamer just warmer and tons more gain on offer which also gives a clearer tone as well. As abive, when I bought this pedal, I tried it against at least 10 other OD pedals and would highly recommend it.

I have the OCD version 3. Plug n Play

Sound Quality : 10
I just wanted to put in my 2 cents here. I play blues and classic rock. I love Jerrry Garcia cause he was very musical IE: played over changes and did it melodically. He didn't play blues cliches. He was understated, which shows musicianship to me and less ego. I sound nothing like him though. I've learned not to haul off and write a review before testing a product for months because, as you all know, little things start to add up over time and your opinion may change. Anyway, I've had my OCD for about a year and used it on numerous gigs. I loved this thing from the start and it hasn't let me down. I use it playing a deluxe american strat refited with van zandt blues pups into my fender hot rod deville 212. I ususally set the drive channel on the deville at 9 to 11 o'clock and eq to taste, depending on room, how I feel etc. For leads I rarely use my more drive channel anymore. What I like to do is use the OCD combined with the drive channel instead. What happens is the nice warm rhythm crunch from the tube amp overdrive is enhanced into a fantastic creamy lead sound. I usually leave the tone at 12 o'clock and the drive somewhere between 10 and 1 oclock. I've never needed more drive than that so I don't know how it would sound toppped out. Other reveiws have stated that it performs better at low drive setings. I've found the medium drive works well too. I also really like the low drive settings around 9 o'clock in combination with my clean amp channel as a rhythm setting, but when I play live I usually use it as a lead channel for simplicity. For me combining it with low to moderate tube amp grind is where its at. Seriously, there's always a better "sound" cause the search never ends. As musicians most of us are driven to find "that sound". You know the Hendrix, SRV, Clapton, Knoppfler, etc. Even those guys sound evolved over time. This sound isn't any of those. Its my sound and really works great. Long story short: the OCD would make a great addition to most anyone's (especially HRD owners) tonal arsenal.

Reliability : 10
I'm not rough on my equipmnet. I don't jump around and stuff, but this box is really sturdy. If I suddenly was 17 again I don't think I could break it without some real effort.

For low to medium gain stuff I think we have a winner. I've been playing for around 30 years. My rig is the strat, HRD, OCD, a cheap pedal (beringer) tuner, a boss blues driver used for a clean boost, and a danelectro PB n J delay. I would definately buy the OCD again and have considered buying one for my band mate. I like that it helps me sound like myself, the good me I hear in my head.

Getting a "sound" out of the OCD is fairly easy. The only problem is...it's a bad sound. With all the knobs at 12:00 the OCD is an okay sounding overdrive pedal, past that in any direction and it is just plain bad sounding.

Sound Quality : 1
My god, the Fulltone hype machine strikes again. The setup I used to try out the OCD is/was very simple and excellent sounding. I used my 63 Gibson SG Jr, an insanely great sounding guitar through a 65 Fender Twin Reverb, the best amp for trying out any pedal. No matter what I did the OCD sucked. It just plain old sucked. I can't fathom what all these other "toneheads" are hearing when they rave about the OCD, I just do not get it. Yes, the output is massive and that is nice...but... the tone control does absolutely nothing...nothing. It goes from muddy to mud to mud with some annoying treble. Which I guess isn't nothing but it certainly is not something either. The gain is where this pedal just falls apart. It's okay at low to medium levels and I mean okay. Anything past noon is just a muddy, toneless mess. No definition, no clarity, no cleaning up when you reduce the guitar volume...just mud. I truly don't get the love thrown at this pedal. Maybe people just have to love it after the money they threw at it but all that does is make it the pedal equivalent of the emperor's new clothes. Everyone says it's a Plexi when it is actually an early 80's Peavey Classic VT series amp.

Reliability : No Opinion
Everyone says Fulltone pedals are well made but the components I saw when I cracked it open were nothing you wouldn't find in a Boss pedal. Hype again and nothing more.

I wanted to love this pedal after all I had read about it but I was sorely let down by the reality of it. It only took a few minutes for me to know that this was going straight back to Sweetwater. They were cool about me returning it and gave me a full refund. Thank god for that. This is the second time I was taken in by Mike Fuller's BS and the last. I purchased a Carl Martin AC-Tone pedal at the same time as the OCD and it was everything the OCD said it was and wasn't. It sounded like an AC30, was dynamic and amazing. Do not waste your money on an OCD, DO NOT! After 28 years of playing guitar in the Washington DC Punk/Indie scene, I know what a good guitar sound is and the OCD does not deliver it.

This is Version 1.4. I haven't tried the other three, I'm already OCD's on this one. As far as ease of use, this is the most complex pedal I have ever used, at the same time, it sounds great right out of the box. It has taken me several days to actually appreciate what this thing does thry My Marshall JTM 30. Many nuances. OCD is the mostproper name for this thing

I play a fender USa 70's RI For guitars. I now like to keep it to one guitar so I can really get as deep as possible with it. I use a Clyde, a Deja Vibe, ToneBone Classic, and the OCD, thru a Marshall JTM 30 (The Tube Melter) Truly this is the most amazing pedal I have ever used. Whn Fuller talks of beating your amo into submission HE WAS NOT KIDDING. It took me a little while to actually figure out what this thing does, and the sound is KILLER. Transparent, it does not change your Tone, it seeks out your most natural tone to the max. This is so good for pushing tubes to the point of The Singing one note of Machine Gun Hendrix. Sustain city, but the good kind. Roll off the volume and come back to earth YUes it is a 10

It's a classic stompbox - one in, one out. POwer input, or you can power this with an external power supply. I use the Voodoo Labs Pedal Power Plus 2, so I'm feeding it with good juice. I want to give this pedal a 10 in every category, but it's actually not a plug n' play pedal. When you are working in the analog domain, your pickups, the density of the guitar body wood, your cable quality, and the amp all interact to either make or break the tone. This is a great pedal, but it's taken me a couple of years to understand it. Not that I'm a dumb _ss, but sometimes you have to step back and really listen - both while you are jamming in the bedroom, or when you have a band behind you.

Sound Quality : 10
The sound quality is good. LF/HF give you a lot of tonal possibilities. There is very little noise. Fulltone says it's a true bypass pedal. I'm a gear nut... so I make life harder by experimenting all of the time with different combinations. My go-to guitars are Tom Andersons and Fenders. My go-to amps are Carr, Fender (Deluxe), Victoria, DR Z, and Matchless. I have one Anderson made of Swamp Ash, the other of Alder. The reason I say this is that some of the combinations suck, others are OK, and yet others are golden. For the most part, the OCD seems to like guitars with denser body woods (swamp ash). Although, I played last night with a magic combination of Alder Tom Anderson, Victoria amp (3x10 with 2x6L6 tubes) that rocked. To cover all of the non-metal bases, I use a TS9 and the OCD. The LF setting in OCD goes to where the TS9 likes to play. So I typically leave OCD on HF and use the TS. I'll set the distortion setting low, the tone mostly high, and adjust the volume to taste. Yep, like they say, it cleans up nicely when you roll the guitar volume back.

I've played for 35 years now. I gig about 50+ times a year. You can learn new things with the same old equipment. Fun.

Reliability : 10
I have a lot of Fulltone effects - chorus, Trem, a red and blue FullDrive2, Deja-Vibe. Some good pedals, some OK. But they won't break. You'd have to do something really stupid to break these things.

Customer Support : 10

First off I feel this is a pedal for single coils only! especially p-90's. I found with '57 humbuckers the pedal limits or lets say strangles the pickups a tad, its not bad but for $150 dollars its not money well spent for a guitar with humbuckers. AS far as single coils this brings the true tone of the guitar/amp and just enhances them. Just lets them shine I cannot live without this after using it. I Play a mesa triple rectifier and a es-135 with p-90 and one with the '57s. The OCD simply takes the Mesa and adds the tone of a marshall/ fender. For what i play I love the mesa for the tube glass sound it produces and the OCD just warms it up adding what is missing. You can use various voltages for this pedal I found the lower the voltage(9v) the warmer the pedal is. I also used it with a 12v and just found the OCD sounding Pushed, compressed. There is so much gain on this pedal that any sound can be achieved run out and get this if your a tone buff, like me

I bought this second hand with no manual and had a good sound out of it in seconds. It's really easy to use. It was easy to improve on that sound to - very tweakable. The name is very descriptive (Obsessive Compulsive Disorder).

Sound Quality : 9
I am using it on a MIA strat and a Maton JB6 (SG type guitar)through Faesel Crybaby>Marshall compressor>OCD>Marshall trem> Mesa Nomad 55.

Quite a quiet pedal unless its wound right out. Dam site quieter than the Boss SD-1's and DS-1 it replaced.
To my ears, this pedal sounds awsome. It produces everything from a smooth vintage sounding light o/drive to a nice thick sounding distortion. At light/moderate settings it is quite touch sensitive and cleans/dirties up nicely off the guitar volume. It is quite transparent (hey its an OD predal its not supposed to be squeaky clean)and certainly allows the character of the pickup being used to come through. I find the hp switch setting works well on single coils and the lp on humbuckers. It really interacts well with my compressor to produce mellow blues tones.
As mentioned, I have used it to replace a standard Boss SD-1, an SD-1 with a Keeley type modification and a Boss DS-1 and i AB'd with the Bosses before I sold them on. It has a far superior sound and was a definite step up tonewise.
I think the sound character would suit those who like more traditional guitar/amp sounds (most genres 50's-70's), but it still sounds good and heavy when its pushed (in an early Black Sabbath sort of way).

I love to play jazz, ragged blues, rock and old school heavy rock. Certainly covers all those bases. If I am playing modern metal I just use the high-gain channel on my amp - the OCD is redundant in this mode. If it were stolen I would be quite angry really - and slay the bastard, flay the person, sell the skin and use the money to buy another.

I love the sensitivity, tone and versatility of this pedal. For me its a real gem and suits my ears down to the ground. I'd rate getting this pedal alongside getting your first good tube amp and decent guitar. It made me think alot harder about my playing style - principaly because you can hear tonal nuances through it.

Using this pedal, especially with higher gain settings, is like putting the sound of your guitar and amp under a magnifying glass. If you have a really great clean sound dialed in to begin with, clicking on the OCD will sound great, but if your basic sound is harsh on the treble side, or too muddy, the OCD will magnify that harshness or muddiness. Working the pedal itself is a piece of cake, but it might take you to school as far as reworking your guitar and amp settings to get them to sound good to begin with. I'd say this is probably a very good thing!

Sound Quality : 10
It's all relative - I give it a 10 measured against other pedals, not against the sound of real tube amps like Dumbles, Marshalls, etc.

It is f________ great. The main thing here is expressiveness. It's true - like a Dumble, it responds beautifully to picking technique. Dial in a good dose of overdrive, then back off the guitar volume about 1/4 to 1/3, and you have this blistering attack when you hit it hard, or smooth, singing sustain with medium attack, or an almost clean sound with very light playing. Then crank it back up when it's time to really wail!! The playing feel BLOWS AWAY ANY MODELED AMP FROM ANY MANUFACTURER. ANALOG RULES!!!

No, it does not have all the same tube-frying tone of a real amp, but the overdriven sound rages in a way that is pleasing to the ear - more pleasing than some real real amps! If your amp sounds good to begin with, you will love it.

This thing really, really helps in open-jam situations, where you don't know what amp you'll be playing through - just bring your battery powered OCD and you can relax in the knowledge that when it's your turn, you can pretty much just go up and play without having to screw around trying to figure out an unfamiliar amp. Unless the amp is total crap, you'll at the very least have a very enjoyable sound to work with, and maybe a really great sound!

Reliability : 10
I rate this based on their enviable reputation as well as the obvious industrial-strength materials used.

Customer Support : No Opinion
My first Fulltone product, no opinion.

Overall Rating : 10
I give it a 10 for overall value because, even though there are a slew of decent-sounding overdrive pedals out there for a lot less money, none of them comes close to this kind of feel or expressiveness. Fulltones are nothing like the cheap stuff out there, and I can see how you will find yourself still enjoying the OCD long after having grown tired of the sound of the cheap pedals - the OCD really is a blend of its own sound plus the sound of your guitar and amp. It allows the great sounds of your carefully chosen and dialed in guitar and amp sounds to really shine, while adding a generous dose of shine to put it over the top!!

I love it. It's great for blues and rock. If you want smooth, rich distortion like you might get from a mod'd SD-1, this is NOT the pedal for you. I mostly play a Strat with noiseless pickups, but it sounds great with the 57s on my Gibson ES339 too. My amp is a Silverface Super Reverb. My board goes like this: (guitar) Area 51 Wah -> HBE CPR Compressor -> Fulltone Octafuzz -> Fulltone FD2 Mosfet -> Fulltone OCD -> Fulltone Deja Vibe -> Keeley mod'd AD9 -> Boss DD6 -> Boss Tu12 tuner (Super Reverb). I recently got rid of a Lovepedal for this OCD and I'm very glad I did. The Lovepedal was built like something I could have soldered up in my garage.

I put this up as 10 - fantastic value - because for a boutique pedal, it's very reasonable. This was cheaper than my Boss DD6, and it's built VERY well. Again, if you play blues or blues/rock, this is a great pedal for you. If you need high, smooth gain, I'd recommend the FD2, or something else.

Well it was just perfect for me. Sounds great through my vox AC30 with a tele or strat! Set the micro switch to the HP[high peak] which has more bass & upper mids and it's a joy to behold. Neck pickup sounds reminiscent of Ritchie Blackmore's Machine head tone.It let's the guitar tone shine. Very uncoloured punchy sound. Using a Marshall & a Les Paul I set the Micro switch to LP{low Peak}i.e less mids & bass, as the Gibson has more of this anyway. Great power chord rock & lead tone in the vain of Jimmy Page, Pete Townsend. Is any pedal a 10? this is as close as it gets.

It's very versatile. Halfway between a overdrive & distortion sonically which is great, not honky or too gritty, very amp like. I play Pop/rock in the 70's style, that's my era. I would rush out and buy another one if lost/stolen at the drop of a hat! I've had it for about 4 months now, done a few gigs and am still suitably impressed. It's the sort of pedal that makes you want to play and give it all you've got, inspiring!!

This thing sounds awesome through Deluxe Reverb reissue, and that's saying a lot. I plowed through a list of pedals that incluced a Keeley modded Tube Screamer, a ToneBone Classic, a Fulltone Fulldrive II, and a Voodoo Lab Sparkle Drive, and all those pedals sounded fizzy through both channels of the Deluxe, especially the tremolo channel (which still has the notorious "bright cap" in place on the input). The OCD really pairs up with with the Deluxe Reverb, particularily for higher gain stuff. Hat's off to the folks at Fulltone on this.

One of the things i love about these type of stomp boxes is the ease of use. This has a drive knob, a volume knob, a tone knob and a switch to go between two different types of overdrive settings. How much easier than that can it get.

Sound Quality : 10
I have only done one review before and that was on the Boss GT-8. I try to be as objective as possible as i know what one person likes others will hate, however if you are thinking of buying this pedal i think you will know what sort of sound you are after.

I use this pedal straight into the front of my amp (as i do all my pedals) my set up at the moment is-
Fernandes Ravelle Elite
Boss TU
Fulltone Clyde Wah
Fulltone OCD
T-rex Tremster
MXR Phase 90
Line 6 DL4
Marshall Mode 4.

I play prog rock in a sort of Alterbridge meets Pink Floyd meets Porcupine Tree way.

This pedal i use in two ways the first is to help balance the really distorted sounds i use, not to boost but just to add a little top end.
The second to give me a really nice blues tone on the clean setting.

I have to give this thing a huge thumbs up as it does both jobs really well.
The best thing about this pedal is it does not colour the sound of your guitar but only adds its own sound on top of how your guitar already sounds.

When using this on the clean settings it gives you a good 60's-early 70's vibe (think The Who live at Leeds or early Zep.) I like to use this on the Hi frequency setting with the tone at 10 o'clock, the volume at 12 o'clock and the drive at 1 o,clock. if like me you like to back off the guitars volume and tone and control things that way this pedal will be perfect for you because it really does respond to what your doing. If you back off the volume on the neck pick-up you can get a good jazz tone (think Ronny Jordan.?
If you use this on the distortion channel be careful about how much gain you add on, like i said i only use it to add a little more cut and top end but it does its job very well once again without changing your tone dramatically.
the two distortion types work well one gives you quite a bassy deep overdrive kind of like Albert Kings the other gives you the Who type sounds.

In short its all good!!

If you play out and out metal its a big no
If you play Grunge its a no
However if you play just about anything else you will find some setting you like.
Personally this is the best overdrive pedal i have owned, I will not protest to have used all of them out there but this is better than my old TS9 much better than the Boss BD and better than the Marshall Bluesdriver.
If it was stolen? Without a doubt i would get another one.

It's a plug and play pedal, tipical easy of use of a little OD box. Mine was the second version, more mid-range oriented than version 1, the other one that I've heard.

Sound Quality : 9
I've runned it with a Fender Pro Reverb 73' - Fender Stratocaster USA and Ibanez S2020. The best sound I reached was with humbuckers, it was more plenty of power....but this box lacks basses in power chords. Great tone for vintage rythms and combined with a BB Preamp it was very easy to dial a good sounding violin-tone. This pedal is very transparent and respects the tone of your guitar, that's something most of the guitarist like. For Marshall sounds I prefer it against the Plexitone of Carlmartin but I thing it's not the definitive Marshall sound in a box. Anyway, a high category stompbox.

Reliability : 10
It's built very consistently, no problem with this.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Didn't have any problem with it.

I play rock, blues, jazz, funk and sometimes more heavy stuff. It suits very well for rock and the styles that need less gain, for heavy rhythms I thing it's not the best choice becouse the definitin of bass notes. I used it for AC/DC riffs and things like that, combined with the BB Preamp I ghot a killer tone for soloing. I've sold it because I wanted another type of OD, a more Dumble oriented, but I thing it's a great buy for the money it costs.

Well, it took me a few weeks of experimenting to find the sounds I liked with it. It never sounds bad, but this is a pedal you want to work at, and when I did, I was rewarded. I can flat out NAIL Page and Hendrix with this thing. Think Page 1973 The Song Remains the Same Soundtrack. Yeah, that. Awesome. Roll off the volume on the ol' Les Paul, still got tone! Plug in the Strat, step on the wah and it's Jimi time a la Band of Gypsys. I run this pedal through a Marshall DSL401 all tube combo with a Les Paul, a Strat & a Tele. It does it all. Sound is such a hard topic to discuss but you have to believe the hype with this pedal i have used many pedals over the years and i was and still am set on the maxon rod-881 witch is a tube based distortion/overdrive pedal. i was looking for something a bit diffrent with a more simple plug in and play attitued and the ocd has done that. without being obvious it sounds just like it says like a cranked up marshall early fender. I play through a victoria 5112 and with that cranked the tone of the ocd is very similair just with more versatility with tone and gain (the amp has just one volume knod and thats it simple!!!) i was very happy to hear that there is plenty of gain on tap for good old fashioned classic rock and some new stuff as well and it really does clean up nicely. great pedal and best of all now i can officially say all my gear is made in the USA.

It is easy to use since there are only three knobs and one toggle switch. It is not easy to get good sound of it though. The tone knob is EXTREMELY sensitive around 10-1 o'clock so getting that sweet spot tone is difficult. I am comparing this to other boutique pedals. If its boutique you should be critical and these little things should be done right. This is not done right. The drive and volume knob are done right.

Sound Quality : 4
A VERY VERY Fizzy product. I own a V1 and my friend has a V3 and they are different but not different enough to make it sound GOOD. There is this overlap of booming bass over the fizz so there is not middle ground and the treble sounds like a cheap pedal. Humbuckers are the worst for this pedal, single coils work best. The best tone out of this pedal is when the drive is down all the way, just like a dirty boost/drive that barely drives. This way the pedal isn't doing too much driving which then reliefs the fizzyness.
I am comparing this sound quality to other pedals that produce (or try to) a amp like gain/od sound. The Cmatmods "Signa Drive" does this sound way better (and more sounds as well and its cheaper). Robert Keeley has a few as well that does this sound better.

Reliability : 10
This is a very very dependable pedal. Built like a tank and has lasted me a long time.

Customer Support : 1
I contacted them to convert my V1 to a V3 (my friends sounds slightly better) and after 7 E-mails and no responses (I tried 3 different E-mails listed on their website) I have waited over 6 months and I give up. I have done mods myself, I may just do it by myself. I used to deal with Fulltone years ago, they were very helpful but now that they are getting to be a big corporate company...well, they stink with customer service. You can get way better treatment from other companies.

Overall Rating : 5
Fizzy sound, terrible customer service but its a reliable pedal as far as durability goes. The tone knob is obnoxious and is very fizzy pedal overall. I am musician who has plenty of boutique pedals and I am being very realistic with my review. I am not bias just because I blew $150 on this pedal. I have had this pedal for 3 years and I am being truthful because I know many people buy it and just have this "oh this pedal is awesome" feeling because they just bought it. Fulltone has won't return any E-mails and now I am going to mod this pedal myself. There are plenty of other companies to look at before just buying this one. Frantone, Cmatmods, Robert Keeley, Mojo Hand, Barber, G2D, Menatone. All of them have pedals cheaper or at the same price. Good luck!

Just a drive pedal, three knobs for Drive, Gain and Tone plus a HP/LP mini switch. Doesn't get much simpler.

Sound Quality : 10
In order to give you an idea of what this pedal is great for, I need to explain a little about my tone and the history of my gear.

I play mostly strats into non-master fender amps (silverface vibrolux and super and a blackface twin). I usually set the volume to just below the break point and use my drives as a boost to saturate the tubes.
For a while I was making my own pedals and at that time I purchased a bunch of overdrives to use as a reference like Analogman's TS9/808 mod, Keeley's TS mod, Keeley's Rat, Fulltone FD-2 and so on. I still use my Mojo Drive but I rotate other drives in my pedalboard, depending on what makes me twitch at the time. Then a friend of mine came across with the OCD and I thought I'd give it shot. Man, was I surprised. This is the best pedal I have ever tried (for the purpose I use it for). I have read others saying that it's only good at the low drive settings. Well, I agree. I'd only add that at higher drive settings it is not any worse than any other drive pedal I have ever tried. I just don't like that type of tone and I wasn't expecting anything in that department.

Now here comes the best part: after I got my OCD, I called the above-mentioned friend and we put both drives in a row. This is where it absolutely knocked me down. We tested it with a 62 strat and a Fender Vibrolux set at around 5 (this is where my amp just starts to break). The settings on both OCDs were approximately - level at 2 o'clock, drive at 8 o'clock and tone at 1 o'clock. Pure heaven.
The clean was just that - the clean the only gets a bit over the top if you play really hard. The "crunchy" sound (one OCD) was what already blew me away a couple of weeks before. Excellent saturation and really nice musical drive. Now the "lead" setting (both OCDs) is something that made me buy another one as soon as I got home. It sings so sweetly and no matter how overdriven it is, you could still hear every single note, the tone of the guitar shines through and it's balanced, not middly, PLUS, it's dynamic as hell, if you play a little softer, it gets cleaner and if you play really soft, you get back to the clean department. Amazing. After our little testing session I had a rehearsal and I tested it with the band and it works in the noisy rehearsal setting, not just on its own. Well, now I am eagerly awaiting my second OCD. You won't see my other pedals on E-Bay, I love them all, but this one really IS special.

Don't expect any problems. Never had a pedal die on me, except for the cheap plastic ones.

People bitch about Mike a lot. I once asked a question (on FD-2) via email and got a prompt answer. No problems there.

Overall Rating : 10
OK, the questionnaire part.

I play mostly blues and soul, but I also work with some pro rock bands and use the same setup with them, only they have to supply the Marshals for the big stages :)

I have been playing for (almost exactly) 30 years. As I said earlier, I play mostly strats (a 62, a 69 reissue, a 76...) and Les Pauls (72 Custom, 72 Ibanez LP Custom). No matter what guitar/amp configuration I use, I use the same pedalboard and work from there.
If this (ugly looking but great) pedal was stolen, I'd get a new one immediately. No wait, I got a new one even before it was stolen.

As I said above, I loved the fact that the guitar tone was not screwed up, if anything it got richer. (and I LOVE my primary tone). I use it on the LP setting. To me it seems that it sounds less harsh and more adjustable on that setting.

I A/B'd it with a bunch of other great overdrives. Every single one of those is great but for what I need the overdrive for, this one is the best.

It absolutely does its job and improves my tone.

Anything else I'd like to share? Well, did I mention it was ugly? The cheap cheesy font doesn't do it justice :) Did I also mention it didn't really matter?
It is a bit pricey but a serious musician should be able to sacrifice couple of hundreds for a good pedal, especially if it lasts. I have had too many useless pedal in my life to be picky about the price. If you settle for a TS7 or the like, this is definitely not a pedal for you.

I am using the OCD with a MIM & MIJ Strats and an American Tele and a Deluxe Reverb RI. The only other effect being used is a Boss CS-3 compressor. The OCD adds very colorful harmonics along with the OD. Combined with the compressor and sustain, I can get feedback on just about any note and then shake it into a new harmonic! This effect is addicting. I had a JTM 45 RI and this sounds better without going deaf. I also have a new Fulldrive 2 Mosfet which is very good but it is so clean and transparent it isn't as much fun as the OCD even though it is more versitile and nicer looking. I'll give it an 8 because it colors the sound, I'll give it a 10 because it colors it well.

The OCD is actually pretty easy to use: Just three pedals and a High Peak/Low Peak (HP/LP) switch. But it doesn't get a 10 in this category because it takes a bit of time to get dialed in. I require different kinds of distortion depending upon the song, so I had to spend a bit of time actually documenting knob and switch positions for different songs. That's not a bad thing though because I spent a few hours sitting in front of my amp fiddling around with the different sounds it can produce depending upon the knob and switch positions.

Sound Quality : 10
First off, for gear, I play out of single, modded Fender Hot Rod Deluxe. For guitars I use a Strat with TexMex pickups, and an ES-335. I only have a couple other boxes: Ibanez TS-808, Boss CE-3 chorus, and a BBE Sonic Stomp. While I love my Tube Screamer, it's mostly a big midrange booster. It's a great sound, no doubt, and it will always have a place in my signal chain, but I needed something "different," and OCD fulfilled that want in spades.

The OCD should be called the "schizo," but in a good way. It can scream with pleasant, creamy distortion in one setting, but a flick of a switch, and a turn of the knobs, and you can get crunchy, preamp tube breakup; another turn and it'll give you a FAT compressed tone. This is what I love about this pedal: It can produce a plethora of distortion effects, though I have to admit that you have to take the time to mess with it, but that's half the fun.

As another reviewer mentioned, this pedal works best driving a single channel amp, or in my case, driving the clean channel of a two-stage amp. I tried it with the drive stage of my Hot Rod, and the break-up was plain ugly. But in the clean channel, WOW is the only word I can say.

The touch and input sensitivity of the OCD is nothing short of incredible! Lighten up your attack and you get a clean, sweet, but edgy tone on the edge of breakup. Lay into your strings and the OCD will resound with rich overtones and harmonics. Similarly, back off your volume, and you change the character of the distortion; crank it, and the sustain and scream you get out of the pedal will put a smile on your face!

Finally, the OCD does all this without muddying your tone and losing dynamic range! I was flabbergasted when I took it for a test run at my local gear shop. Some distortion pedals I've tried in the past seemed to add a lot of compression and make my tone sound flat, but the OCD acts more like a tone enhancer. This pedal rocks!

Reliability : 9
I haven't brought it to a gig yet because I've only had it for short period of time, but from what I can tell, reliability should be no problem. The build quality of the OCD is very high. It has a solid, metal casing, and the switch is pretty heavy-duty.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Haven't had to use 'em yet.

Overall Rating : 9
Now that I've got the OCD, it won't be leaving my chain unless someone steals it. At that point, I'll definitely buy another. I know I was rather long-winded in the sound quality section of this review, but to sum up what I like about it, I just dig its versatility in producing a variety of distortion sounds. Twiddling with the knobs and HP/LP switch might seem a bit tedious to some, but to me, exploring what sounds this pedal can produce has been an absolute joy!

I'm not giving it a 10 because of how much I had to tweak it and document the settings, for the different songs I'll be using with, but consider my 9 more like a 9.75.

This pedal is the best solo boost I have tried! My old one was a Seymour Duncan Pickup Booster, and I hated it. Too flabby....no cut. Well, this thing cuts like a knife! My setup is pretty crazy, but the rundown is: guitar>Peterson Strobostomp>MXR Blue Box>GCX switcher input. All my pedals go in it's loops, in this order: BYOC Overdrive>OCD>Boss Heavy Metal>BYOC Chorus>MXR EVH Phase 90>ISP Decimator. I control the pedals, my Marshall JCM800 2210 amp and an Alesis Quadraverb with a DMC Ground Control pedal. My guitars are a white Gibson Explorer and an Ibanez RG520QS. This is used in the chain to get more distortion for leads, and man does it smoke! Reminds me of the old George Lynch sound or Van Halen. Crazy pick attack, harmonics and sustain, but VERY clear. I set it to "low peak" with both level and tone set full, and drive on about 3 or so. It's a very inspiring sound.

I play death/thrash metal in one band and "old-school" swedish death metal in the other. If it got stolen somebody is gonna PAY with their life, I can tell you that. I would buy another, even though I traded stuff for this one. I love the tone it gives when used as a clean boost. It's distortion alone.....not so good. But I'm not a blues or old rock dude, I play metal, and do care about tone a lot. That's why I use an old Marshall and some good pedals. These Fulltone pedals are a ripoff though.....most can be built for about $30 if you source the parts and wire it yourself. The overdrive and chorus I built rival anything out there, including Fulltone. But this pedal has a special circuit that is a bit harder to clone, so I just use it. Overall, it's my fave pedal from these guys.

First of all I'll explain my current set-up...I play an American
Fender chambered-ash Tele with stock p-ups (usually run in mid. pos.)and a reissue Strat w/ a dimarzio humbucker in the bridge (cant rememeber the model)I run it through a Hot_Rod Deville biased pretty hot w/JJ Tesla tubes (the best on the market for the price imho)
My Pedalboard goes as follows for the moment..
Toadworks Mr Squishy Comp>Fulldrive 2 Custom Shop MOSFET(usually run it on Comp-Cut mode all the time and use boost for clean leads)>OCD (Dirty Rhythm some lead) >Radial Tonebone Classic(For distorted leads)>Guyatone Micro Delay 3>Fulltone Supa-Trem>AMP
This thing IS very responsive and has some harmonic richness.......I have a love/hate relationship with this thing...This thing sounds great for dirty rhythm..my Tele seems to love this thing more than my strat...but for leads I find it a bit thin and harsh on the high end.. while I have run it at 18 Volts via a Voodoo Labs Pedal Power 2 Plus(which I highly recommend to fellow pedal junkies)and special cable..It seems more harsh, but may be better suited for a Marshall or Mesa when used at that voltage, I find it sounds warmer when I run it at 9V and use the SAG feature on the Voodoo Unit...

Perhaps a bit more complicated than the standard drive boxes - just getting used to the sweep of the knobs - but you'll be rockin' in no time. Has a High Cut/Low Cut switch designed to emulate more Marshally/Voxy tones vs. Fender type tones. Manual is helpful, actually. I dialed in my favorite tones before reading it, though.

Sound Quality : 8
This is a nice pedal. This pedal bursts with harmonics! At higher levels I found it a bit too much, to my ear. For me worked best with the drive below 11 o'clock. Beyond that became less usable - just too much. Nice tube type grind. Not thrilling, but nice. Has a nice balanced output. Not too midrangey, but not scooped either. They did a good job with keeping this "natural" sounding. Cleans up nicely with a rolloff of volume - just like a regular amp. Drive boxes come in lots of flavors. This one just isn't mine. But judging from their sales, and other reviews here, it is a lot of peoples'! Just personal taste. Certainly nothing deficient about this.

I tested this with my PRS hollowbody and a '74 tele w/ Seymour Duncan Alnico II Pros. Amps were a Victoria champ and a Carr Slant 6V. OCD Seemed to like the Carr best on the "blackface" side. Seemed a little less clear with the tweed. It didn't seem to prefer singles over humbuckers. Did thicken up the singles, and it didn't oversaturate the hummers.

I am getting to the point that all the good drive pedals are similar enough that most will work. (Good is fairly subjective - I don't consider stock Boss good.) I don't think you could go wrong with this one. I'm lightening up my load on drives. Selling my Boss/Analogman DS-1Pro. Selling my Analogman TS9. Selling my Rat. Selling my OCD. Keeping my AC booster, and my RC booster. Now, the RC booster is an unbelievably great pedal!

Pretty easy pedal to use. Gets a bright really quick, and has such a wide range of great sounding tones.

manual is short and sweet, and gives you some good starting tips on how to use the beast.

This pedal is a monster waiting to be awakend! I bought one of these a LONG time ago (last summer) and I decided it was junk because of my highly complicated rig, and sold it. Then I got my hands on a V2 OCD for $80 and it has never left my new and improved simpler rig.

before:
Gibson 335/LP -> Sennhieser G2 wireless -> Radial Dragster -> Ernie Vol Jr. -> Vox V847UJ Wah -> BBE Exciter -> 2 GCX's Switcher setup for two amps.
Amp side A (dry) -> MXR 10 band EQ -> Marshall JCM900 50w 2x12
Amp side B (wet) -> MXR 10 band EQ -> OCD -> Hotcake -> Hotcake Bluseberry -> Sparkle Drive -> Emma Reezafratzit -> Phase 90 -> MXR Flanger reissue -> Voodoolab Tremolo -> Dr Scientist Woofer Wailer -> Dr. Scientist Tremolessence -> Maxon AD999 -> TC Electronics VDP Delay -> 1973 AC30

now:
Gibson 335/LP -> Vol Jr. -> Vox V847UJ Wah -> Fulltone 10th Anniversary Fulldrive 2 -> Xotic RC Booster -> Hotcake bluesberry -> OC -> Phase 90 -> Tremolessence -> AD999 -> Vox AC30

This HUGE change in setup has fixed my problems with the OCD tone, and my tone overall... (it sounded good before, but was way too bass heavy!)

Now I get searing high gain tones without the saturation of other high-gain pedals that delivers smooth distortion for chord work, but cutting tone for leads.

Keep in mind the pedal gets brite very fast in either HP or LP modes... I'm running it in HP mode with the tone around 10:00, volume around 1:00 and gain around 11:00...and I have now found my 'signature' tone. I mix this with my Xotic AC booster to fatten up my tone and it's just beautiful!

does give me a lot more feedback than any of my previous distortion pedals though...

for rock, blues, and metal this pedal can really dish it out. It's very responsive to pick dynamics and your volume control, and it can provide such a wide range of tones you can't even begin to get them all after a few months!

The OCD will always be on my board, and would be repalced in seconds for any reason. hell I might buy a backup for each guitar case just in case...

Extremely easy to get a good sound out of the Fulltone OCD. Just plug in, play, and just keep turning on the 3 knobs.

Indeed, there is a manual for it, it just tells you what everything does and all, but yeah, I have the version 3 model of the OCD,...and i couldn't be any happier!

Sound Quality : 10
A beautiful pedal visually, and even more tonally.

I can get MANY tones out of this pedal. I play through a Esp/Ltd Ec-1000 w/ BKP Mules and It goes straight through into an Orange Rocker 30. Sounds amazing in both HP and LP channels. Also, I can play it through the clean and get a very classic/rockish tone, and keep in mind, this pedal can be used as a VERY heavy booster. I mostly play it through the dirty channel to get those hard, thick, smooth distortion tone I always crave, and this thing definitley delivers!

It goes as smooth as Slash's/Brian May's tone, and can get as brutal as Mustaine's tone as well. I was sort of surprised on how top notch the quality was for this pedal! Definitley was worth it...and for only what? 150 USD!?

Steal.'

Also, one more thing, this is great for a lot of bluesy/classic rockish tones (as I've stated before), such as cream, Trower (who actually uses the pedal), and a lot more.

It does get quite noisy though, but it's most likely because I play at home where all my cords get tangled up...and everything buzzes in my house!

Reliability : 10
I would definitley depend on this baby. Looks very sturdy...just don't smash it when you go to turn it on or off.

Fantastic Value, I must say. For only 150 bucks, it's definitley something you should have in your pedalboard if you're tone crazy!

I play everything from blues to classic/hard rock to classic metal. And of course, this is a great match, really saturates the tubes and makes my amp sound like it's on ten on volume 1!

I've been playing for nearly 4 years, but have been playing seriously for only 1.

If I were to lose this pedal (and I really hope I don't) I would of course purchase another one! Maybe try some other pedals out (just for the heck of it) But this pedal is defintley at the number 1 spot in OD's.

I just love the look and tone it brings out! Really makes my tone a huge amount better! Sounds like someone's taking a blanket off of your amp, it's huge sounding!

There's nothing more I really want from this pedal... and it really motivates me to play more.

If you're here reading this (as I was a while ago), just try it out, it's worth it if you have a great amp and you know what you want.

Cheers. :)

It's very easy to use and dial in...IF you realize that it goes best in front of a single-channel amp to bang the front end.(Translation: classic Fender, Marshall, etc.)

Just as an observation, I've seen inexperienced kids...of all ages...put these in front of a modern amp with a cascading gain pre-amp,channel switching, and wonder what in the world the problem is.
That's not what this box is designed for.

If you choose & apply your tools properly, you shouldn't have a problem. The instruction sheet spells the basics out in plain language.

Sound Quality : 10
I'd heard Robin Trower was using the OCD is very happy with it.In fact, he talks about his good experiences with the OCD on his website...

Now for my own experience with it:

Matching up with a Strat,Les Paul,JEM777 & a Fender Blues Jr. for a test,it delivers some very tasty & toneful overdrive/distortion with a good amount of boost. And for once the hype is right; there are some nice harmonic overtones that you only hear when you crank up a really good tube amp.

No RF hum or noise.

It cleans up well by using the volume knob too.

The HP/LP switch is a nice touch too if you want to clean things up a bit.

You may have to "adjust for taste" a bit depending on the Guitar you use; single-coils may react differently than humbuckers.
...But that's no different than having to adjust amp settings when switching guitars during a gig.

Moral: Don't blame the effect. Fulltone doesn't make them idiot-proof!

I popped the back off to take a peek. Very nice & neat job! Sturdy box; BRIGHT blue light. (Did I mention the blue light is BRIGHT?)
No problem seeing this baby on stage!

I always have a box of back-up stuff; but this is one of the better made effects boxes I've seen.

That being said, Stomp box problems (of ANY brand) are frequently due to bad runs of Carling switches...that is,the little pushbutton your foot stomps on.But I think Fuller is hip to this by now and took appropiate measures.

Customer Support : 7
Just a few thought here:
Ever call up BOSS or Ibanez to complain about one of their stomp boxes? Ha! Didn't think so.
"If" you can find a support number, you won't get much sympathy.
...Or you can always try taking it back to the Music Store for support.(Sound of weeping violins and more laughter from audience.)

That being said, many professional & working musicians (Trower, Billy Gibbons, Satriani) buy Fuller's products, and rave about them.

It baffles me how whining weasels out there feel that buying a pedal gives them a license to pester a small designer who's making good products for working musicians.Grow up!

If this box broke, I *might* call Fulltone. But ya'know what? I plan on purchasing several more of these soon, and probably wouldn't bother. Anything broke goes in a "to be fixed" box anyway.

I've been playing for almost 40 years...(Yikes!)Besides gigging for years, I've played on a CD or two that ingloriously made it to the bargin bin.

Over the years, I've had to be able to cop a lot of different styles:
Jazz, Blues, Hard Rock, Country, Metal, and recently backed up a Hip-Hop artist.(Disclaimer: I will NEVER play Disco.)

I have quite a few guitars: Fenders,Gibsons,Ovations, rare ones like the Dan Armstorng Plexi, and even some of the 80-90's Ibanez & Kramer shredder Axes. As for Amps: Marshall, Mesa, Fender. Plus several boxes of effects.

This pedal RULES! I had a similar revelation that a few others have had;I eliminated several other dirt boxes in favor of the OCD. It does everthing they do and more.
I rarely rave about a stomp box, but this one is truly an exception.

Like I said above, I plan on buying several more.

I have OCD Version 1. The paperwork is helpful for getting a basic understanding of the knobs and their functions. Like most Fulltone pedals I own, the slightest turn of a knob results in more than just slight changes. Takes a little time to find the hot spots, but you will.

Sound Quality : 10
My first thought after plugging in my OCD (V1) and Strat into my '78 Fender Princeton Reverb was...where's the midrange? That was until I plugged it into my 100w Marshall Plexi and played my '78 Gibson SG Custom. THEN I was floored at the slinky funky nasty tones that were dripping from my guitar and amp. Fat lows, sparkling highs and a wicked midrange growl. I couldn't stop smiling.

It is cool on the LP setting with a Strat, SG or Les Paul for clean to slightly dirty tones. But the HP setting gives you the incredible sustain and "open sound". I've read up on the differences between V1, V2 & V3. But I'm happy with V1.

I gave the FDII very high marks for what it does. Kicks your amp gain up w/o changing your tone, very full sounding. And I do love it, but the OCD is a different lady. OCD tone = sexy.

Reliability : 9
It seems very solid, but I wouldn't want someone to step on it and break the toggle, etc. Would prefer it to be a little bigger and the input/output/power-out to be on the front, like my other Fulltone pedals. I would get another OCD if something happened to this one, but I use my FDII & '70 Pedal as a back up on gigs.

Pretty simple to get a usable sound out of this pedal. Getting a better sound just takes some user time. I don't find the toggle switch very useful as a live option because of the volume difference.

To my ear seems a little to have a little more "air" and is pretty well sensitive to pick dynamics. The harmonics and overtones are nice. Not sure it lives up to Fulltone's claims but none the less very nice.

Simple to use, although it would be helpful if the target amp / setup that this was made for was included with knob settings ... but maybe that is asking too much?

Sound Quality : 7
Sounds very good, not the best OD on the market, but a pretty good all arounder if you play a variety of styles ... it works best with a Marshall type just barely breaking up. I do not like the sound of it on any setting with a Fender Super or Twin. For a $179 pedal, it is average in its class, which is not a bad thing. I think better tones are coming from othe boutique pedal makers like Menatone and Keeley, but this sure beats any stock Boss overdrive.

Reliability : 10
Fulltone stuff is extremely reliable. In the 10 years or so I have used Mike Fuller's products (12 or so pedals) I have only had a few problems with switches, and he has since replaced the old style switches.

Hopefully you will never have to deal with Fuller. Compared to Robert Keeley or Brian Mena or any of the other boutique pedal guys, Mike Fuller is very trite and not in it for the customer. The good news is his stuff is very reliable.

I have version 3.0, manufactured in April 2007.

This pedal is extremely easy to use. Volume, Gain and Tone knobs, that's it. There are two modes that can be selected with a toggle switch: HP & LP. HP sounds more British, very much like a vintage Marshall Plexi. LP is more of an American Overdrive, like a cranked up Fender. I personally like the HP mode more, but they are both great. The HP seems to be slightly louder, but I think that's because it accents the higher frequencies.

The only thing I would caution anybody with this pedal is that the volume control is very touchy. There's a lot of headroom and it can get away from you really quickly. I leave my volume setting around 9 o'clock, and my gain and tone are both at 12:00 o'clock. This seems to be a pretty good setup for me so far, but I've got plenty of room to adjust as necessary.

Sound Quality : 10
In short, this pedal sounds GREAT!

I play various Strats (single-coils & humbuckers) into a Koch Multitone 2x12 Combo. The only effects I use are (in order) a Budda Wah, a Fulltone Mini Deja Vibe, the Fulltone OCD Overdrive and then amp. I use a TC G-Major rack processor in the parallel effects loop of the Koch for some subtle delay, but that's it.

I have been playing for 30 years. I have had this pedal for about two months, so I've had time to get used to it. I bought this pedal to give my amp channels a little push over the edge and that's what it does perfectly.

I have posted several sound samples on my web site and you can hear eveything in action (www.mjriley.com)

Reliability : 10
This pedal is built the way pedals should be built...solid! I've got it mounted on a pedalboard with velcro, but it comes with some nice clear silicone no slip-feet which are a real nice added touch.

The knobs and pots are all heavy duty. I like the fact that the knobs are somewhat 'stiff' and don't flop around when you come into contact with them.

Very solidly built. Great design.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Haven't had to deal with them, don't expect to.

Overall Rating : 10
This is a great pedal. I've tried and owned several other overdrive pedals and this one has proven to be the best. It's really brought out the best of my amp and tone. It allows me to get huge tones and feedback at a lower level without shattering my eardrums or windows.

I would recommend this pedal to anyone looking for a good clean overdrive with plenty of volume and gain to spread around.

Nice job, Mr. Fuller!!!

Very easy to use. There's a one page instruction sheet aht comes with the OCD. But, just plug it in and let your ears do the work. Very simple my 11 year old son uses it!!

Sound Quality : 10
Awesome tones! I don't know what "ItDoesn'tMatter's" gripes are about. It's obvious he's very disgruntled or jealous with Mike Fuller's company..

Aside for that, the OCD does everything I'm looking for in sound. No altered or muddy tones. I'm personally not into pedals or pedal boards to try to emulate an artist or group. So the sound I'm looking for comes from my amp and guitar. I too have an "expensive amp" and strive for a certain sound. The OCD doesn't alter that sound in any way especially when playing slide guitar.

Do yourself a favor and test drive the OCD if you're serious. You won't be disappointed. Let your ears decide for you.

Very strong construction. The pots that are used in the OCD are pots used on high end amps. They're not cheap pots.

Ease of Use : 3
The features have all been listed, ad nauseum. Being a user of highend tube amps, (the $2k and over stuff) the OCD is no where close to the tone of quality tube overdrive, saturation, etc. (Preamp or power amp section).

The OCD's main and worst function is that it is great boost pedal, if you like an unusable level of boost that won't be tolerated by band mates or in a live setting.

I gave this a rating of 3 based on the sweep of the volume only being usable below 9 o'clock. (The rise after that is obscene). The tone knob is the most usable feature but the drive is less than stellar after the 12 o'clock position and uneeded below. More tone sucking than enghancing actually. The LP/HP mini-toggle is best discribed as "less mud, more mud".

The actual footswitch is the type that gives a "pop" when ingaged or disingaged and with today's technology, even in analog pedals, there is no need to use this type of component, by-pass or otherwise. This feature alone makes this pedal unusable for recording if the need to switch is required during live tracking.

The box looks cool, if that is your thing.

Sound Quality : 4
It doesn't sound anything like Brittish amps of any kind, vintage tones or some other overused industry phrase and it detracts from quality tube tone-saturation. Please keep in mind that my criticism is not from the so called honeymoon period one way or the other.

I have had the pedal for awhile and have tried to like it and yes I have tried moving in every position of the chain or alone, and with 7 different amps and I still don't like it. I also don't hate it, I just didn't hear the results from it that were so hyped in the first place. I use power conditioners, Mogami, George L's, etc. so it's not the cables either.

I'm actually quite pissed because I want to like it based on Fulltone's web presentation and the general internet buzz. I should know better by now, especially having an arsenal of great amps and instruments at my disposal.

Pedal's of any level, especially overdrive, distortion, etc. become more of a liabiliy at some point but I was hopefull that the OCD would be an ehancement. It wasn't and isn't, and even ain't and it should've.

In addition, I did try it on an old but excellent Westbury amp (the only solid state amp I own) which has a early plexi tone for recording and the OCD was slighly usefull in that application. Again however, the tone knob was the primary effect being utilized on the OCD. (I don't use EQ pedals because I don't need to anymore). The OCD seems to be an overpriced, one knob EQ pedal so maybe that's what your looking for. There are better boost pedals but that's not why I purchased the OCD.

I rated this a 4 because the tone knob is useable for tone shaping, but isn't that what EQ is for ?

Reliability : No Opinion
The quality housing/case of this and many other pedals now on the market far exceed anything from the past. The OCD appears to be well made from a construction standpoint. However, a pretty face sure don't make no pretty heart.

If I don't like it, I won't use it, so in that case it should last a very long time, especially as a rarely used EQ pedal.

Customer Support : 1
In an e-mail to Mikehole Fuller, in search of his advice, his reply was absolutely one of the most UNPROFFESIONAL replies from any manufacturer, ever, and I have been purchasing high end equipment for more years than I care to admit.

I was warned in advance that if he replies at all, he would be a total arse and not helpful, so in that regard, he succeeded. Why bother at all? His egotistical, nasty and negative customer service reputation preceeded him and was consequently, confirmed.

In total positive contrast, guys like Bob Sweet (Mojo Vibe) and others like Bob Weil, Roger Mayer (among many) reply within a day or two and make the effort to be helpful to THEIR CUSTOMERS.

Obviously Mikehole Fuller does not need anymore business and there are other and better manufactures (small and large) now available to musicians who create pedals that now exceed Fulltone's. Don't be lazy and follow the crowd or the hype. Do your homework and link in with manufactures that WANT your business and will work to EARN your loyalty.

We all must choose between being informed comsumers or prostitutes for the economy. You decide for yourself.

Lastly, I like Robin Trower, among many other artists who use this or that pedal, but Mr. Trower (or any developed artist) sound's like themself no matter what equipment they uses. Wake up !

If I could rate Fulltone's customer service any lower, I would.

use this pedal as a boost--the overdrive is great, but this thing will add those harmonics that may be missing & give your amp overtones you may have thought weren't there

Sound Quality : 10
no noise. i use lp's & soapbars. the ocd can add some brightness as you desire. it really can juice your tone. it's the overtones you need to listen for. let your amp do most of the coloring--then add the ocd's harmonics until you find your color. you could make a 6L6 amp sound like an EL84 sound if you want. you may not want to use it with an amp that's already bright. but the tone control can take the highs & bring them down if you need. i like this pedal with a fender sound, & from what i know mike fuller has those older fenders, so when he makes a pedal, he's making it for his sound. it works good with a boogie lonestar too, which again in a way comes from a fender background

Reliability : 10
no problems or worries. i have 2--they are a bit different because they are about 2 years apart. no 2 things are ever really alike. one is a bit darker, which can work with a brighter amp. i like them both, & this can help with the room you're playing in--you know how that can be. when you try one out, listen for these qualities--& try different amps to get a feel for the colors

Customer Support : 10
i haven't needed to contact fulltone. the ocd has worked fine from the start. i have had them both for about 2 years

This thing has great sounds right out of the box and on all settings. It had an HP (think Brit) and an LP (American)and both sound equally fantastic.

I lost the manual at Church (this is where I play w/ the praise band) because I was in such a hurry to try it out. I didn't even miss the manual it was so simple. I do wish I had kept the sticker - I am pretty proud to own this thing.

I play through a tuner-H2O Chorus/Delay - Digitech EX7 - Fulltone - BBE Sonic Stomp - EB volume - Marshal DSL401. My main guitar is an Epi-Dot(2002) or my Fender Am Deluxe Strat (1999).

I was amazed at the boost this thing gives you. I keep the volume at 9 o'clock and Drive at 10. However, I played around with the drive all the way down and the boost up at 2 o'clok and this thing really adds alot of tone to the sound.

It didn't add any noise to my setup and has a true bypass. When on, it still is deathly quiet. The best thing about this pedal is that it reacts to your pick attack fantastically. WOW!!

Having been a long time fan and infatuated with the heavy tones and sonic variants Robin Trower has contributed. I started becoming interested in Fulltone after seeing Robin's new effect line is all Fulltone. After playing some 30 years I have never been happy with stock distortions and a lot of pedals and I have used and played a lot of them over the years from ultra vintage Univibe to modern modeler units. Fulltone is the best. After deciding to move to this line I opted for the OCD as Robin stated it was the best he had heard. The Distortion Pro and Soul Bender are much more intense he uses for dramatic effect on some lines.

The OCD is self explanatory and the sheet manual offers recommended twists for various purposes. Fuller is a genius, period. Finally a player who knows what mods and design sound better!

Basically plug the pedal in and start adjusting. I recommend your best clean channel tone and go from there. Bad sounds do not come out of this box. I am supposed to have the new version 3 model but I have not got a clue on how to make sure this is certain other than trusting Humbucker who I ordered it from. UPS 2 day air and it was here. Marvelous.

Sound Quality : 10
I just got a new amp the Carvin V3, with vintage cabinet and it is truly an underestimated amp. Marvelous tones I am getting. I am using my Carvin DC400 which has split coil switches and an active clean boost preamp when desired. Playing this unit through my chain which is at present Amp front DC400 Carvin, DOD Extreme Envelope Follower, Vai Bad Horse Wah, OCD into Carvin V3 head and Carvin 4x12 vintage cab. Loop 1 is running at present my reissue Univibe and Boss DDL (not so happy with either right now hope to replace with Fulltone units). Loop 2 on the amp I have set up as a clean boost using the loops volume adjust this makes the V3 sound incredible.

At once on the LP setting this box sounded most promising with gain around 9 and tone around 10 to smooth it out. I gave just wait I was wanting to hear, the dynamic response distortion boxes just don't have. Fuller recommends running a higher voltage than 9 if you can to make the pedal headroom come out more. I am using a 12v supply Radio Shack model as it seems you can't find the older adjustable voltage ones anymore. 12 was as high as I could get. The immediate sound of this unit was impressive it is dynamic to signal input and cleans up and distorts with signal level. In the case of my beautiful DC400 I use the split coil at neck which gives me a nice strat tone I kick on the on-board pre-amp when I want clean boost from the guitar.

Works so well with the OCD unit I was amazed. My wah also sounded great with the unit and I also found my envelope follower sounds great and even in combination with the wah worked very well. Articulate and pure tone. I am also playing detuned as Robin does a full step down might add to my over all better tone as well. Those who complain about the V3 should try this. I was always a dropped D or on 440 guy and when I tried this I just loved how much easier it was to play. The OCD apparently likes it. Running a higher voltage at 12 is also adding to the pedals dynamic. It can take 18 but I am not into batteries and chaining them.

Its all about opinion kids and as everyone knows everyone has one. Having played for many years from the heaviest blues to the hardest metal I know what I like in tone. This pedal I think sounds best for me in the LP mode as booster but it always just makes the tone come alive just what I was looking for. I get tube saturation gain more than most amps can do with the V3. I used to love my Marshall JCM 2000 but his amp is better and does so much more.

The OCD HP mode cranks up the units distortion for the higher gain crowd. I am not so fond of pedal distortion, I mean how long do you need to play before your gain is no longer tone by over the top saturation for bad playing?

This unit on clean channel makes great gain tones by adjusting the knobs. It sounds better than anything else I have tried to use, more musical and articulate.

I can use the LP mode on my high gain channels and it does not mush out my sound but rather helps the distortion have more life and tonal quality. Everything is dependent upon amp. speakers and guitar and you can't expect a pedal to solve your shit tone problems but truly the OCD is going to help you a lot. I think it is the best pedal I have ever had and I cannot wait to try and get more of the line. I wish he would get his hands on an old Mutron III and develop his version, that would be heaven.

The OCD has incredible volume output, Fuller states it is 30db. I have two clean amp boosts and my guitar pre-amp so I have incredible ability to adjust my sound. If you're a new player I can see how you might like the Metal Zone of something like that, you can mod those pretty good. But after you play a number of years one looks for tone more than just gain. How much gain do you need. Tone is the thing and the OCD brings that to the table. Obsessive Compulsive Drive by the way is the name. I love it, could not be happier. I cannot imagine how anyone could get bad sound out

Reliability : 10
Fuller makes very high quality high end gear. The best components switches (true bypass) even his battery gets shut off when using the phantom power. The knobs are delightfully hard to turn and have that nice quality feel to them. Super heavy box, doesn't get any better. I have had effects for years I cannot see why this one will not last probably longer.

Customer Support : No Opinion
I have not talked to them but I would really like to put the idea in Mike's head to create a new Mutron III envelope unit he would make it amazing I am sure. I have read everything from the web site and have not called them. Its a small company and they are busy as hell I would imagine. Fulltone is the best, I cannot see how much of anything else really can compete with them. Open them up and check out the way its built and the components.

I cannot rate this catagory because I have had no reason to contact them.

As I said above I have been playing about 30 years or more and I know what sounds good. The OCD stays on all the time in my line I cannot say that of anything. It made my already amazing amp sound better and gave me the beautiful strat tones I was looking for in that Daydream Univibe land. It distorts very well but very musically just by touch and guitar boost. I do not use it for the HP higher gain issues but it does that better than other pedals I have. Those complaining it sounds to digital or stiff need to twist around some more roll the highs off and such. I love it I did not find any bad tones and it can distort like the best amp tone I have ever heard. Fuller made this box after the idea of the smaller amps that have great tone like Jimmy's recording setups and such. I found it to be able to produce an intense musical gain distortion I like better than the other ones I have and heard. I like it for the LP tone enhancement quality but it can gain up on HP as much as anyone should need. I mean really is it playing or just hitting the guitar with your violin? I find the HP gain sounds great when you roll off the highs a little, very smooth to fizz if you want it. I like a heavy low end distortion with articulation of notes on the high end. The OCD is a welcome addition and has sold me on the line in general. I paid $180 for it and its worth it. Buy it do yourself a favor and for god sake twist some knobs and try some new settings, experiment. If you get bad sound out of this I suggest a major overall especially speakers. And really look into Carvin their guitars and amps are great I have been using them for years. The Marshall is gone but the V3 rules the hill.

Pretty simple, all knobs are self explanatory! One thing I like about this pedal is that the knobs are more stiff than other botique pedals so that there is no chance that your guitar cable can accidentally move your settings while playing. Another feature is that if your using an AC adaptor the battery stays fresh and won't draw power from the battery.

Sound Quality : 10
This is where the OCD shines! The equipment I used to test the OCD are as follows: Carvin Belair 2x12 amp, Fender American Stratocaster Hardtail with a Seymour Duncan Jr. JB in the bridge (mini-humbucker). Very responsive in every setting. You can get that SRV sound to the AC/DC sound! With the HD and LD settings it's like having two pedals in one. It nails the British sound in the HD setting while maintaining your natural guitar settings on the LD setting. You can also get a bit of a "scooped" sound on the LD setting and a bit of a mid-boost on the HD setting. HD=Marshall or Vox and Twin or Tweed on LD setting. The best feature on this pedal without a doubt is that you can keep this pedal on and get a clean, Texas Blues and a Fat overdrive/distortion just by using your guitar volume knob.

Effect is very quiet and built solid. Yet to play it live. I just got it but spen several hours getting some great tones! More to explore with more time.

I was really happy with my existing sound using the Xotic pedals for example: AC Booster and RC Booster pedals, but I was seeking some additional tonal flavors. The OCD fits the bill. The OCD can give you all the ballsy distortion and overdrive you need for most of your sound needs. Using the RC Booster in front of the OCD is a great addition adding volume boost and some extra grit if needed! I'll also continue to use the AC Booster for that signature smooth violin-like lead tone. The pedal the OCD replaced was my VooDoo Lab Sparkle Drive. I was getting a better SRV tone from the OCD hands down. In summary, if you are looking for a pedal with a lot of tonal options for you, this may be a great choice for your tonal arsenal. I highly recommend this pedal. The pick sensitivity and tones you get from just your volume knob will amaze you! Check it out! Rock on!!!

I wanted to add something to my previous review. Ivae OCD version 1. I read reviews that state the OCD doesn't get good distortion. I disagree because it gets a wide range from boost to overdirve to awesome distortion (subjective I know). I recently bought an Xotic AC booster and put it in front of the OCD. I turned on the OCD with the AC booster on and wow.... Creamy distortion oozed out of the OCD. I discovered that having a punched up signal via the AC booster changed the characteristics of the OCD. It truly added another level of distortion versatility. Very cool!! It's a great pedal. I think you have to have an OCD in your chain. The question is what sounds better to your tatse -0 Version 1, 2 or 3. Someday I will get Version 3 just because I feel it has to be great beause it has a great lineage.

Easy to use, simple intuitive layout, effective controls. instructions minimal but are just enough to understand how it works.

I used this with a vintage strat and tele, both through a vintage Deluxe Reverb and a recent Crate V series 3112 with Tone tubby. Really it's own type of sound. Better used to drive an amp than as stand alone overdrive. Clean settings really effective. Overdrive leans more toward a fuzz than, say, a Tubescreamer. Higher drive levels become very creamy with alot of low end, but tone control adds highs that are on the harsh side. I foung it difficult to get much past a slightly broken up sound before loosing the best balance of highs, lows and mids. Very responsive to volume changes, attack and remains very clear until pushed into higher drive. It pretty much looses it there. Low pass-high pass switch is effective.

Seems very well made. Very quiet and solid. No issues with functional performance. Would feel confident that it is reliable.

Fulltone apparently has a reputation for making good products and having poor customer service. They offer various upgrades for some items, but never answered my emails. I eventually gave up on my inquiry, but would not have accepted that if I had a real problem.

I bought this from a dealer expecting a current model known as the Version 3. When I received the earlier V2, I gave it a really good try but didn't love it and ended up not keeping it. According to Fulltone's descrption of the changes to the newer version, I might be tempted to try another one as it seems to address what I felt were shortcomings. Would be nice to hear from them before I do it, though.

I have no problem getting very good rock sounds from the OCD. I own the original version. I think it is important to identify which version you are revewing because the Fulltone site explains the differences in components and sounds. Volume - Tone - Drive & a LP/HP mini toggle.

Sound Quality : 9
My fav artsist are Trower, Blackmore, Santana, Page, Townsend. I own Keeley modded Boss BD-1, DS-1 (Ultra Mod), VooDoo Lab Sparkle Drive Keeley modded TS-9 and others. The OCD is in a league of it's own in terms of transparency and tube amp like tone and versatility. I have many pedals because there is no such thing as the holy grail. All pedals offer unique characteristics and I appreciate all the pedals I own. I intend to buy the new Fulltone GT500 and perhaps the Fulldrive 2 Mosfet. The OCD has such an open sound. I find it to be very versatile. None of these other pedals mentioned above come close to it's transparency and tube amp like tones. With the drive at 100% on LP setting it gets a great natural amp like overdrive/distortion. Hit the HP setting and it simply increases the distortion level. Pull back on the drive and you get crunch or whatever OD setting you need. I doin't know if metalheads would be satisfied becuae it is not a supoer saturated distortion pedal but if you l like AC/DC, Zep or Deep Purple OD and distortion you will enjoy this pedal immensely. I like that the OCD distortion is not fizzy (with my rig). It has a amp like OD - sharp and biting. I mostly use it in the LP mode. It can be used as a clean boost by keeping the drive down and nudging the volume aboove unity gain to your liking and then setting the tone. BTW- the tone control offers a wide range of tones to compensate for your PUPs and amp. I run it through a Straub Cantus 50 El34 amp. What amazes me about the OCD is it sounds awesome whether the amp is set to clean or with the amp set to overdrive. I am always blown away by that. It cleans up nice when the guitar volume is turned down. It is hte most amp like natural overdrive distortion I have ever played through. If you have a good tube amp and you want to add flexibility as if you are adding additional channels to your amp, the OCD will definitley do the job.

Reliability : No Opinion
So far so good - had it about a year but I don't play out so I can't really say. It seems like it is built to last.

Not usre about this. I emailed to ask the differences between the original version (mine) and the latest version and got no response. I eventually found the answer on his web site which is probably why he didn't repond. But a simple reply to say "check the FAQs in the OCD scetion of the site" , shouodn't be too much of an inconvenience. Oh well.

I play variety - beatles, purple, santana, sting and basically classic rock. Playing for 38 years. Have too much gear. My main rig is 1971 LP Custom / 90s Strat Plus w/Lace Sensor PUPs ---> Tonecore compressor ---> Keeley modded DS1 or BD-1 or TS-0 ----> OCD ----> Fulltone Choral Flange ---> Straub Cabtus50 (incredible amp). I would definitley buy it of it were lost. IMPORTANT to underdstand that there are three versions out there. Go to the Fulltone web sitre for the details. I am very curious to to hear the latest version. according to Mike Fuller it has "Stronger Mids - More Sustain - Better Tone Control". Sounds real juicy to me - DAMN!!Guess I'll have to get one eventually. If you review an OCD PLEASE indicate which version you have. Go to the Fulltone site to ID your version.

As others have said: 1. Great, really great clean boost. I don't think I really knew what that was before I used an OCD. 2. Excellent light and medium overdrive. 3. If you want distortion, this pedal doesn't really deliver anything GREAT. It works, sounds relatively good, but not GREAT. Different guitar/amp combos do different things, but for my rig - (strat/tele/DuoJet into a 63 Vibroverb) - no one was ever going to complement my tone using this particular pedal.

I already have a modded SD-1 and DS-1, so I've got a good range of overdrive, light and medium gain. What I was looking for was something to give me a new tone in the medium and high gain range. If I hadn't already invested time and money into the other two pedals, the OCD would have been a much simpler (and maybe preferable) setup. However, if you already have modded od and dist boxes, the OCD doesn't bring anything to the table.

Reliability : No Opinion

Overall Rating : No Opinion
This pedal is ideal for someone who wants just one pedal to cover light and medium gain sounds. Can be substituted for a Tube screamer or a light distortion box like a DS-1. Works pretty well with tube screamers, but modded DS-1s compliment TS pedals better, imo. If you're looking for something to go along with your tubescreamer, look elsewhere, you can do better. If you need just one pedal to cover alot of territory, this might be the one.

Bottom line, I returned mine. It doesn't offer much more than what you can already get with a good tubescreamer-type pedal.

Very easy to get the tone I require. With my strat, I turn the drive up 100% due to the single coil pick-up to get the distortion, with my Les Paul, with has 57 classics, I back off on the drive to about 3/4 or less do the pick-up strength. Very basic controls ( Volume, Drive, and tone. Also has a HP (seems to give an extra boost to the signal) and a LP switch (leaves the volume very level or normal).

Sound Quality : 10
As far as sound quality, as many have stated already, it is very transparent. I am running through a Marshall 1987X 50 watt Plexi, so the OCD works great in front as a sort of preamp. The Plexi is very loud at lower volumes in a tight room/space and the OCD does the trick.

I bought a Fulltone Fulldrive II at first, but it didn't have the distortion I needed to drive my Plexi. The Fulldrive II had a very smooth distortion/drive but was limited for my use. To be frank about it, I thought my trusty cheap Boss DS-1 kicked its ass as far as distortion and attack. I sent the Fulldrive II back and exchanged it for the OCD.

Just bought it and no problems so far, Built very well.

I'm running an American Strat > Keeley Fuzzhead > Jetter Gainstage > Fulltone OCD > Line6 XLT (effects only, no amp modeling) > Fargen Bordeaux.
I'm using the OCD with the neck pup running thru the Blackbird (think Fender Deluxe) side of the Bordeaux. This is the most natural, smooth, bluesy overdrive I've ever played. It very much depends on you having good equipment cause it won't hide a bad amp behind lots of distortion. What this does is brings an already good sound into a beautiful, wide open, big sound. You can dial in quite a bit of distortion if you like, but the best tones are just pushing the amp a bit. I use it for that Clapton tone and it is just right for me.

Fulltone stuff is the best out there. I can't imagine this ever failing.

If my pedal board were lost or stolen the OCD would be the first pedal I would reacquire.
I don't give out 10s but this may be as close to a 10 as I've run across.

A lot of ways to get sound from this pedal is both it's greatest strenght, and it's greatest weakness.

I personally feel the pedal has too wide a range, making it so that if you nick a knob and it turns slightly your tone can change a little too much.

Overall an easy to use pedal... do yourself a favour and run it in 18w mode though.

Sound Quality : 7
I cannot stress enough how important it is to run a pedal for a while before you decide how 'sweet' it really is. After the initial hype wears off, you'll realize what the sound quality really is.

My rig consists of a Vox AC30 from the 70's and a Gibson ES-335 with a pairing of Burstbucker Pro's installed in it.

I find the pedal can be quite transparent in lower gain, or clean boost settings. Being used as a clean boost, or something to hit the front end of your amp harder so that it goes into a natural tube overdrive is what this pedal definatley excells at.

When you start getting up into higher gain territory the pedal starts loosing a lot of top end, in fact I have the tone knob set to 3:00 and the drive set to 10:00 and I'm getting a huge low end rumble from the pedal. Diminished chords seem to get lost, and the response becomes very 'solid state' feeling... Especially in the LP mode.

Switching to HP and upping the tone to 4:00, backing off the gain a bit, gave me a really nice heavy high gain tone that still had some top end sparkle. Very balanced, but not transparent in the least bit.

Compared to my Crowther Audio Hot Cake (a very simliar sounding and responding pedal) the OCD is in a distant second. The Hot cake is just simply more expressive, more transparent, and just overall a nicer sounding box.

Don't get me wrong, the OCD is a great box. I hate most distortion boxes, and have been relying on my Hot Cake for years, but now I finally have another box that I can use with my Hot Cake for more versatility.

I play a lot of rock music, but my influences are from punk, metal, blues, and classic rock; and my writing reflects all of those, so I need something versatile.

I wish the OCD was more versatile... more like my Hotcake (in fact I ordered another hot cake to replace the OCD the other day...I'll still keep it in the board though...)

The ability to run it on various voltages, and the huge sweaps is both a nice feature, but also frustrating... its a good pedal, and I'd miss it if it were gone. But overall I think for the money there are better boxes to get... the Crowther Hot Cake for $20 less is a good place to start...

Real, real easy to get a great sound out of it immediately.
I couldn't wait to get this in the mail.
When it finally came, I plugged it in and just LOVED it right away.
(Just the opposite of when I plugged into a Danelectro Daddy-O, what a complete total piece of absolute crap).
There's no manual, just a two sided printout about the pedal in general. You do not need a manual. Just play it and twist knobs. It sounds great. The knobs have a nice feel to them BTW. Nice firm tapered feel while turning them and a little tweak makes a difference too.. Very nice. I'm going to be giving a lot of 10's in this review. If that bugs you oh well.......

Sound Quality : 10
The OCD does not sound like a pedal. I recently bought a Reissue Bassman LTD. and needed something for low volume situations when you can't crank the amp for overdrive. I tend to HATE pedals. They all sound like absolute crap to me. I hate Tubescreamers, Rats, Expandoras..all that junk. THIS sounds GOOD! Not 'pedal-like', sounds like my Bassman turned up lound if you set the knobs right (Drive fairly low sounds killer to me but if you want more, it's in there and it sounds good too). Now if you 'shred' or want to sound like Slipknot or some crap like that you may not like this pedal but if you like REAL music and musicians like SRV or Clapton or Walter Trout or Robben Ford or Chris Cain or Tommy Castro or Johnny Winter or Buddy Guy or even Gary Moore's bluesy stuff you might just like it a lot. I do. As I said, so far I like to set the Drive low (about 9:00) the Volume about 10:00
and the Tone about 1:00 and then turn the guitar volume knob down a bit for cleaner tones.....or crank it up to wail on some blues riffs.
Sounds an awfull lot like the Bassman screaming on about 6-10. Very organic sounding. Very responsive to your touch. Very amp-like.
It's not noisy. It's got a COOL blue light that gets seriously bright and throws all these little rays out (real trippy). It sounds great with it set on LP or HP equally. I kinda like the less in your face tone of the LP..........or do I? It's just a blast to play if those are the kind of tones you seek and don't want to sound like you're playing through a crappy pedal. It seriously sounds very much like the Bassman turned up real loud and distorting even with the drive set pretty low...amazing.

Reliability : 10
Feels and looks VERY solid. Nice heft. Very quality feel and sound.
And did I mention the blue light? Real unique and hard to describe. It's not a regular ol LED type thing. Very, very cool.
I can't afford two of them so yeah, I guess I'll use it without a backup. I can't really imagine anything going wrong with it, it seems real solid.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Wanna try the higher power adapters they say you can use.
It can take 9-18 volts! They say it gets even better sounding
on higher voltage.
They even include a battery in it out of the box. How many effect
manufacturers do that? Yep, comes WITH a battery.

Overall Rating : 10
I play Bluesy styles primarily as well as R&B and Soul and
Gospel type stuff etc. You know styles that are all about cranked
Fender for the most part or Marshalls and such. Edgy breakup to full
out power tube wailing. This is a great match for those styles. Think Clapton on his "From The Cradle" album.....it does that style of overdrive and more.
I've played for like 40 years I guess? OK electrically maybe 30? Long enough to develop strong opinions aye?
The only thing I wish it had is another footswitch button to select between LP and HP modes instead of the little toggle. That would be cool. I tend to put the pedal ON the amp anyway though instead of on the floor so I don't have to bend over to knob twiddle so maybe it's ok. I can just reach over and tweak it. It is a little small though and kind of between the two top knobs. That's my only complaint really.
What I love about it really, as I already said, is that it doesn't sound "pedally". It doesn't sound transistory or thin or buzzy or any of that junk you get with so many overdrives/distortions. If you're more into Freddie King than some goth-metal shred dude you'll probably like it. I can now gig with the Bassman at low volumes and still have convincing power tube crunch and overdrive when I can't turn the amp way up like I would at loud blues gig or an outdoor stage gig. I'm stoked.

I've owned this pedal for two weeks and waited until now to write a review.

The only reason I'm giving it a 9 is that 18 volt adapters are not the most common and I don't own one yet. I am ordering a Dunlop DC Brick for my pedalboard to do so. According to fulltone the unit sounds better with one. "You'll be amazed at the sonic differences. The higher the voltage, the cleaner, louder, and more dynamic the sound, kind of like the difference between a 50 and 100 watt marshall."

Sound Quality : 10
I plugged this in originally using the suplied 9volt battery my chain was as follows:

Ibanez artcore 75 (335) with dunanc HB102's> Monster Cable 'rock'> OCD> Monster Cable 'Rock'> Laney LC50 (6L6 power amp)w/ Eminence 'the wizard' (clean channel with volume at 3)

I started out on the LP setting with all knobs at 12:00 and....................................................:

Pure Bliss!!!! Great cranked amp tone, very dynamic.

I then turned the unit off and switched over to the amp's dirty channel and tried to recreate the sound with marginal success. I couldn't get the same complexity and detail with sustain, it was close but not as good as the pedal.

I then tinkered with the gain and level eventually getting to where the gain was dimed and the level was about 10:00. This gave me only a slight boost in volume when turned on.

At this setting the amp sounded like a cranked vintage marshall/ hiwatt but I think it was even more articulate than the actual amps. My subsequent attempt to recreate this tone on the amps dirty side w/ out the pedal was a complete let down. I even inserted a weber load dump and cranked the amp but could not get a smooth and articulate sound like the pedal produced.

I then flipped to the HP setting and found exactly what I was looking for, Soldano type saturated smooth overdrive with every note ringing true.

With the gain cranked on HP and the level around 9:00 (give or take :30) Tone still at 12:00 I got ripping overdrive/ distortion that was not super high gain but was plenty for my taste. I would say it's on the level or slightly higher gain than Warren Haynes when he plays with gov't mule. Keep in mind this is with fairly high-output humbuckers. You certainly have enough gain to play almost any rock including GNR and Tool. If you think you need more gain then you probably aren't good enough (no offense) to cover those bands anyway.

I a/b'd the OCD a week later with my Tonebone Classic through the same amp with the same cables but brought out a few more guitars:

MIM tele deluxe w/ fralin blues specials
2004 Les Paul Studio with 490/ 498 stock pups
2006 Fender Deluxe Players Strat with Vintage Noisless (stock)

On all four guitars the OCD sounded much more natural and open making the tonebone sound slightly compressed and solid-state-ish. The OCD was slightly more dynamic and articulate, although the Tonebone had more gain for sure. The extra gain proved to be of use with the single coil guitars as you can dial in some great raunchy classic rock/ shred tones that are not available on the OCD with single coils but the humbuckers get muddy at the same gain levels IMO.

So to sum it up I think the gain on the OCD is more of a mix of the sound of preamp and some poweramp distortion while the tonebone is pure preamp especially at the high gain setting.

I also prefer the sound of a wah (535Q) into the OCD better than the tonebone which tended to get a little 'quaky' for me.

I didn't have noise problems with either pedal.

Reliability : No Opinion
It hasn't left my house and it's still workign great so I can't comment. Although the pedal seems fairly simple so it is probably more reliable than my old tonebone.

I play a bastardized version of rock/ funk/ blues/ jazz.

Some guitarist whose tone I admire:

Steve Kimock
Michael Houser
Mark Knopfler
Warren Haynes
Jerry Garcia
Derek Trucks
Jimmy Herring
Marc Ford
Charlie Hunter
Jeff Beck
David Gilmour
Eric Krasnos
Adam Jones
Nils Cline
Etc.....

For now this is exactly what I was looking for in a overdrive/ distortion pedal:

1) touch sensitive/ dynamic
2) Smooth or chunky depending on guitar and settings
3) small
4) uses 9 or 18 volt adapter (tonebone needed wallwart 15v)
5) Sounds like an amp and not a 'metal zone' etc...

Dead-easy to elicit great sounds: all controls work on a very wide range of possible settings.

I just got one it does just what I want it to: faux AC-30 sounds from a Fender Blues de Luxe. Even with a Roland micro cube and a Tele I was able to get that Syd Barret sound.
This is the most touch sensitive pedal I have ever played with; from a light crunch to a nice bite just using your attack.
Sounds great with any guitar ( P 90 sounds fat yet open, a Tele can really sparkle without sounding harsh).
The higher gain settings are good but this pedal excells in the Goldielocks-zone of crunch.

I've been playing for over 30 years now and at the moment I'm in a Blues band. We do some R&R, Country and Pop songs and that's where the OCD comes in very handy. It works very well with other effects like chorus, delay and reverb and with this one your sound won't clutter even if you decide to use'em all at the same time for that dramatic solo.
I did contemplate the purchase of an AC-Tone by Carl Martin but I came across this one first (Sorry Soren).

Here's where I depart from the crowd. The OCD is quite useful as a transparent clean boost, but you would literally have to be on crack to say it sounds like a plexi Marshall. I found the overdrive sterile, fizzy and actually "solid state" sounding. I prefer my Boss BD2 with a Monte Allums mod, which is like a Keely or Analogman mod, but $20 instead of $70. Bottom line, $160 is simply too steep for a clean boost. Again, if you expect a solid state device to sound like an overdriven tube amp, maybe it's time to give the pipe a rest.

Seems solid.

Overall Rating : 8
I'll give it an 8 for solid construction and quality components, which clearly contribute to the "clean-ness" when it's used as a clean boost, but as I said, the overdrive is just so-so.

Great for blues. I can nail clapton, SRV and many others. More importantly, I have the sound I want. Very versatile, slight movement of the controls get very different sounds. Very responsive to pick strength. True bypass is great. I use this with either a digitech RP200 on cleans for quiet practice, DI box for recording, or into my Fender Hotrod Deluxe. It sounds great with whatever I use it with. Does have the ability to do a huge clean boost.

Very reliable, very well built. I gig without a backup because this is my only pedal. I waited 3 months to get it after trying it (it sold out at the shop before I could buy it) and it was worth the wait.

i play a fender koa strat into a fender blues deluxe amp. this pedal is the answer to my quest for tone. the hair on the back of my neck was standing on end when i tried it out at the store. i was ready to take the plunge and spend $200 on a Fulldrive 2 Mosfet when i decided to also try the OCD. i loved the fulldrive but i felt the the OCD had a bit more range of tone to it. this is the only piece of equipment i ever bought that i only have absolutely nothing negative about. i recommend you go and buy one and dont't even waste time trying. what ever type of overdrive tone you are looking for lurks within the heavy gage steel shell of the OCD. my only complaint is that i don't have two of them, one for light drive and one for nastier overdrive.

Here's where I'm gonna depart from the crowd. What Harmony-Central needs is a honeymoon policy, which should say "DO NOT REVIEW THIS PRODUCT UNTIL YOU HAVE OWNED IT FOR 30 DAYS, OR USED IT AT LEAST A DOZEN TIMES." The OCD sounds good, but not great. I found it most useful as a clean boost, at which it clearly--pun intended--excells. It is quite transparent when dialed in to minimal drive settings. When you begin to inch up the drive--on both toggle settings--the pedal becomes, for lack of a better description, "sterile". It doesn't sound ANYTHING like a tube amp. In fact, I'm frankly sick of claims that solid-state pedals sound like tube gear. They don't. If they did, then any decent amp manufacturer would be able to create a killer amp with a solid state front end and a tube power amp. But they haven't and they can't and never will. So that's my little tirade. In any event, if you want a good transparent boost to push your tube amp over the top, get a used Boss BD2 and mod it with the Monte Allums H2O mod.

I HAVE A first AND THE 2nd VERSION. That is the reason I am posting my review, to set all the hype about the new version. I used both with Tele, strat, les paul, Es-335, PRS p-90's, 59 Tweed Deluxe, Kendrick tc 2x10", Bad cat, Fender, Marshall and Two Rock. I like the 1st version the best, is a better boost, Better for solos or Rythm, the 2nd version is smoother maybe like a tube screamer but if I want a Tube screamer I go and get one. Is not as good for solos specially and it sound great. Because the OCD is about the very best you can buy. I will only put another overdrive/boost pedal in this category. 1- ocd 1st version + Throbak Overdrive boost 2- ocd new version 3- ts-808 + klon + boss sd-1 + burriss....I hate to say it but MIKE FULLER finally did it.

I got a great deal on this OCD pedal.
It's Hands down the best pedal Fulltone makes.
It is transparent but a little bit fizzy in the hi-end department.
I did an A/B test with my other pedals & it does hold up well, but
not enough to keep it. Rock, Hard Rock, Punk Rock, Blues it can
do all that. It lacks it's own distinct tone. The toggle is cool
& very usefull.

I use 2 pedals in my set-up. One Overdrive pedal in front of my
Bassman or Bandmaster & one overdrive pedal for solo's. I play
Hard Rock/Punk/Alt Country (it's all just Rock music to me).
The OCD sounds good, but there are many other pedals out ther that
kick its ass. Maybe if I would have bought this pedal before I tried so many other Fulltone pedals it would stick around. It's better than any modded pedal you'll ever find. Try one out for yourself & make a decision. Barber, MI Audio, Aramat & HAO to name a few make incredible pedals. You may end up trying them all like I have.
Thank god for Ebay. I would not buy this pedal again.

easy as pie to use. use your own imaginative and creative mind.thats why we buy different effects right? im a high gain kind of player and it seems most boutique pedals are geared for that (vintage tone). anyone notice that? anyway, the OCD is an awesome pedal for high gain usage. and not so high gain. i emailed Mr. Fuller about the use of the OCD with humbucking pups. his reply was (the OCD works perfectly with hums).

he was so right.

what an awesome pedal! again, i like a high gain pedal and this is great for that. and also it can be tamed down nicely as well. very tweakable. i use it through a modded hot rod deluxe, and a soldano astroverb. it kills with both amps.

no noise that i could detect.

Sound Quality : 10
I plugged it in and it gave me the sound that I have been looking for for a long time,it crunches it drives it gives that edgey dry vintage blues sound from my Marshall jcm900 and drives my boogie dc-3 into lonestar status. One thing that has really made this the one pedal everyone should have is it does`nt change the sound or character of my guitars,I have a Parker Nitefly and a Levinson blade they both have single coils , strum a chord and every note can be heard clearly not a mish mash as with the tube screamer, swithch to the humbucker on my nitefly and the sound is just warm and lush and again no colouration, you can change the tonal colour by playing with the guitar volume .this pedal is good ...no this pedal is sublime and if I had to keep just one this would be it

Pretty easy to use, some cool features are included, and the manual (while short) gives you more info than a Boss manual, and its' easier to understand!

The most beautiful thing is it will work with pretty much ANY adaptor between 9v and 18v. Sure the sound changes, but it makes it killer for gettting it running in a snitch.

Oh..and it's uber easy to get a great sound...not just good, great!

Sound Quality : 9
It's pretty killer that this pedal provides almost no mud, no matter where the dials are set. In the LF mode, it really dosn't effect your input signal all that much, but boosts things instead. Very transparent, and probably the most useful for me.

When you thorw it into the HF mode, it really opens up! The gain you get is very comparable to Plexi...bright but dark. And it is incredibly balsy and deep! It takes me AC30 and puts it right up there for high-gain agression!

All in all, I'm running this thing w/18v's, in HF mode, with just enough gain for it to still be smooth with my normal heavy handed attack, but when I really dig in it gets crunchy with some amazing mid-range!

Reliability : 8

This is a real kick ass pedal! I've been searching for a long time for a pedal that is smooth, and full sounding, with a lot of defintion for nice dirty jazz chords, but not too bright. The only other box that I've found that provides this is the Crowther Hot Cake, and that I like better for my lead, high gain tones, so I needed something for 'bluesy' drive...and this is it!

My rig is a stereo setup of an AC30 and a JCM900, acompanied by a Gibson ES-335 w/burstbucker pros, and a Gibson SG Suprmem with P94N and Superdistortion

Very simple to use. You have your basic : Gain, Volume and Tone. Also you have a HP/LP switch. I'm sure all the previous reviews have covered this.

Sound Quality : 9
I had heard about this due to the hype surrounding it so I went ahead and bought it.

I play a number of guitars but mainly a Richie Sambora Fender Strat Mk II, Tom Anderson Classic T and a Gibson Historic '59 Les Paul Reissue. These are played through the following amps : Fender Twin Reverb (Silverface), Fender Blues Junior (this is what the majority of the review will be on), Fender Tonemaster and a Cornford Hurricane.

I play Classic Rock/Blues/Pop and the occasional bit of metal.

As for the gain this thing has a TON of it on tap. This is the first pedal I've actually been able to get a really decent metal sound with. It really is incredible, just crank the gain and blast out some Iron Maiden, it does it !!!

As for low gain stuff I don't think it's so great as with the gain off it still has too much gain. I guess it's more of a Distortion than an overdrive but don't let that put you off as it does a good low gain just not low enough. Hopefully my incoming Fulldrive 2 Mosfet will settle my needs there.

The pedal is also very amp like in the fact when you turn the volume up you get more gain so if you turn the gain up the volume needs to go down on the pedal. It can clean up very well with your guitar too.

Haven't really got much more to add but it covers everything from low/mid gain territory up to metal territory (Iron Maiden/Metallica not insane drop stuff) and is VERY quiet unlike most other pedals I've tried.

Reliability : 10

I am a sucker for a strat or tele into a tweed bassman. This basic clean tone is the best. It's that 4 10" swirl - large sound - fills medium sized rooms just right. I need the right breakup pedal for my bridge PU and have tried a thousand ( ok - maybe 20 ) pedals over the past 30 yrs.

strat ( EJ ) or tele >>>>> Carl Martin limiter ( subtle amount of compression always on - just enough to even the transients a little ) >>>>> OCD >>>> old analog ibanez delay box ( AD 99 ? ) >>>>> bassman

Not at all noisy. Very nice OD pedal - one of the best I've tried - no mid-hump - responds to fingers / pick well. Bridge PU rock stuff is good with this box. neck PU - not bad for blues either.

Reliability : 10
Maybe 10 gigs with it - much use - very dependable.

I've played 35 yrs - past 10 years in cover band - all the goofy dance stuff - R+B / rockabilly / rock / - 1-2 gigs per month.

my quest for the right OD pedal to go with a single coil guitar into a "lots of headroom" amp ( I don't know anything about humbucker, marshalls, etc - very different deal ) has included:

1. Budda phatman
2. TS10
3. TS9
4. Maxon OD ( big green box ? model ? OD 820 )
5. OCD
6. black cat OD 1
7. real tube ( years ago )
8. Keeley mod Boss blues driver
9. Carl Martin ( drive and boost )
10. Fulltone distortion pro ( the red box )
11. 3 different treble boosters - Keeley, Germania, Crispy creamer
12. Big Muff
13. blackstone mofset
14. more I can't remember

AND THE WINNER IS ! -- Keeley mod BD2 - hands down. But the OCD is a close second - also it holds it's value - decent $$ return on ebay.

I am using this pedal with a Rivera Quiana Studio 112 and a Bill Nash Strat. As far as ease of use goes it is very simple and straight forward with a very low learning curve. I give it an nine because you cannot switch from low peak to high peak by stomping on a switch you have to bend over and flick a switch. More on LP,HP below

Sound Quality : No Opinion
Love the sound. I use it mostly on the fender side of my amp and 90% of the time I use it in LP or low peak. Here it does not color the sound of your amp and guitar it just gives you more. Very transparent and cleans up great when you back the guitars volume down. I usually leave the gain at about 10 O'clock and the volume on about 10 O'clock. There is a tone of gain and volume available here so you do not need to jack the thing. In HP or high peak mode it colors the sound more but..........If you turn the gain up a little say about 1 O'Clock and turn the Tone knob down to about 10 O'Clock you can get an absolutely huge fat sound for single not lines while still retaining some definition and stringiness, definitely a 10!

Reliability : 10
No problem yet. Seems to be built really well. I did get a bad PS1 power supply though and they fixed it at no cost reasonably fast. Since I am reviewing the pedal and not the power supply I am going to give it a 10

3 knobs, one dipswitch. It's pretty straightforward. This thing is a time vortex though. One thing I will say is watch the hp/lp switch. The high peak sound can get mighty bright with any open back 2x12 amp.

Sound Quality : 10
It sounds great as a clean boost for the front end of my AC-30, and the breakup at low gain settings is extremely toneful. The higher gain settings are out of this world. The breakup is so musical I almost couldn't believe my ears. Theres a certain harmonic saturation to it that I didnt think could come out of an effects pedal. And the responsiveness to pick dynamics and volume controls is really remarkable. It cleans up nicer than any drive Ive played to date. I play a variety of instrumental space rock/alternative/indie and some heavier prgressive stuff. It cuts the mustard in all regards. Ive gotten a great SRV voodoo chile vibe out of it, and I've gotten a great early pumpkins Cherub Rock tone, too. So the versatility is there 100%. Throw in a hardwire bypass and a sweet blue LED and Im pretty much sure this guys got a permanent spot on my board, until I cant play anymore.

Reliability : 10
I work in a store that deals fulltone pedals. Ive opened up almost every one of the fulltone line of pedals, and I havent seen a bad solder, pot, resistor, switch, cap or board. The wiring is all clean as a whistle, and the work is impeccably clean. Not to mention the ridiculous steel chassis. You could use this thing to rob a bank.

Customer Support : 10
Ive talked to mark and andy(?) at fulltone and theyre both stellar guys. And they mail parts really quickly.

Overall Rating : No Opinion
I play a variety of rock music and a smattering of pretty awful imitation blues. Ive been playing about 15 years now, and I went to school (albeit shortly) for music. I mainly play a 70's strat or a G&L invader into an AC30 with any number of effects, though usually its something like Ernie Ball VP Jr.->BBE Opto-Stomp->Keeley Blues Driver->80's Rat->Fulltone OCD->USA Smallstone->Behringer UC-100->
Boss RV-5->Line 6 DL4->Line 6 DL4 (Yes theres two of them.) It made my rig into a rock machine. Its exactly what I needed to get the tone I was hearing but never quite getting. If it were stolen, I would curse the gods, and hunt the bastard down. I dont believe in backups (because Im poor) so it would be a nightmare to replace. I love how responsive this pedal is to input dynamics. Ive read the other reviews, and I cant see how someone wouldnt like this pedal. Unless they have absolutely no nuance in their playing. I honestly only found a bad sound with this when I dimed the volume and tone and had it set to low peak. I made every animal in a 4 mile radius pee on a rug. It was EXTREMELY bright. Ive compared this to every tubescreamer, od-1, keeley ds-1, rat 2, every drive pedal I can think of. Its the mustard on the tone sandwich.

Only three knobs and a switch, if you can't figure this pedal out you should probably be a drummer... :)

Sound Quality : 10
Mike should call this thing the "OMG" (Oh My GOD!). This pedal is completely natural at lower volumes, and doesn't color the sound at all. You can actually back the volume down and get an IDENTICAL clean sound from your amp and then use picking dynamics or the volume knob to go from a whisper to a roar. The pedal absolutely RIPS at higher volumes. I play it with a PRS McCarty and Custom SE, Fender Eric Johnson Strat and 52' ThinSkin Telecaster and it is extremely musical with all guitars, although arguably better with the humbuckers and a little bright with the single coils. I have used it with all kinds of Fenders and Marshalls, although the OCD through a Fender Bassman LTD is a match made in tone heaven. The pedal has a real organic sound and is the closest thing to a "Marshall in a box" that I've ever used. I currently own and use a Klon Centaur, Keeley DS-1, Keeley BD-2, Fulltone Fulldrive (3 different versions), Digitech Bad Monkey, Visual Sound Jeckyl and Hyde, Ibanez Tube Screamer and about 20 other boost/OD's and the OCD is probably the best of them all.

Reliability : 10

Pretty familiar setup if you have ever used overdrive/distortion pedals before. 3 knobs Volume, Tone, and Drive ??? all pretty self-explanatory and they perform, as you would expect. There is a mini toggle switch to set between LP (Low Peak) and HP (Hi Peak).
The HP setting yields more volume, distortion, and mids ??? class A characteristics, while the LP acts as the opposite (less volume and mids, etc)

Pretty easy to use and get good tones from quickly. Also, might I add that there are a variety of good settings, not just one or 2 sweet spots that you need to dig around for.

Sound Quality : 10
Finally! It???s over! I am done searching for an overdrive pedal that meets my ears expectations. My experience during my overdrive/distortion quest has been this: I have found so many pedals that act great as a boost and add gain and sustain. However, it has always come with compromise ??? tone coloration, loss of bass, and at times harsh ice pick mids. Also, this is the first overdrive pedal I have found to work with chords and rhythm playing. You can use this pedal like a distortion pedal over a clean amp and NOT SOUND like the bottom is cut off with an exaggeration of harsh upper mids???REALLY! This pedal makes my Fender Blues Deluxe very Marshall like (ACDC grind no problem set the drive around 2 o???clock) Here is a good test for transparency???.turn the drive all the way down, adjust the volume to match your amp, keep the tone knob around noon, LP setting ??? play something and turn the pedal on and off (repeat) Do you hear a difference??? I haven???t on my fender or my Reeves Custom 6. Now raise the volume level for solos and you have a pretty darn transparent boost. This is also the smoothest overdrive I have heard???.period ??? and at loud volume too. Never harsh, never offensive.

Reliability : No Opinion
Haven't had it long.... but it appears to be very well made - don't expect problems but can't really rate yet.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Can't say.... Never dealt with them.

I have been playing for about 20 years on and off and am by no means a virtuoso. I play Fender strats, epiphone paul, and a frankenstrat thru either A Reeves custom 6, Fender Blues Deluxe, Peavey Bravo, or Vox Cambridge AC15 (cheapo hybrid practice amp). I played in a cover band for about 4 years, but now just for myself and campfire parties with friends. I am a solid rhythm player (singer) who is finding my way thru solo and lead work. That being said, I have a pretty good ear (they are a little big and stick out too)

This is a great pedal???. Period. It???s transparent, amp-like, and versatile as both boost, overdrive or can act as a ???dirty??? channel to you rig that won???t hurt your ears or make you feel inadequate when striking more than 2 notes at once (chords).

You know when I knew this was the pedal? When I noticed the smile on me face after about the first 3 minutes of use. I never want to turn it off! Better stock up on 9volt batteries.

If it was lost or stolen??? I???d hunt down the guy who took it and make him listen to me practice tremolo (speed) picking on the high e string thru my battery powered Vox AC-1 amp with the treble cut all the way off, then I???d slam the front of the 1 watter with a TS9 (all setting dimed out) while he holds the amp to his ear.

I would certainly replace, I am even considering buying another one ??? just in case..

I am sure there are other great overdrive pedals out there, but this one works for me, and I don???t feel the need to continue the ???overdrive??? search anymore.

I don???t know what else to say expect for here is a list of pedals I gave up on: Ibanez TS9, Keeley moded TS9, Boss Blues Driver, Boss DS-1, DOD YJM308, Snarling Dogs, some others I can???t or don???t what to remember.

Good luck to you

NOTE: I tried to submit a review a couple weeks ago and at the end I hit the wrong button and don't think it went through.

Ease of Use: Very easy to get a good sound out of this pedal. As a matter-of-fact, I think it's impossible to get a bad sound from it. I've tried every possible setting with my rig (listed below) and it just plain rocks!

Sound Quality : 10
Gear & Chain: American Strat w\Fralin Blues Specials> Keeley Compressor (4-Knob v.) > Keeley Java Boost > OCD (v. 1) > Keeley Fuzz Head > EH Deluxe Memory Man (stock) > Fender Deluxe Reverb RI w\Celestion Greenback speaker.

My 'sounds' I like are the sounds of the 60's and 70's (being born in 61 I guess that's what one would expect. The Classic Rock\ Heavy Blues Sound is what I'm after. Think: Black Sabbath, Steppenwolf, Iron Butterfly, Clapton, BOC, SRV, etc....

As aforementioned; this pedal is very versitile and extrememly easy for me to get great tone from it. I previously have been back and forth with Multi-fx's to Stomp boxes (too many times to count). I always seem to come back to the individual stomp box pedalboard because the quality is there (and it's old school which appeals to me).

The area of Overdrive \ Distortion is one that I've never, ever been happy and satisfied with UNTIL NOW. I've been through the modded DS1's, BD 2 's, TS 9's & 808 's, and others. While they all sound good in their own right; none can compare to the OCD.

The OCD is just the exact tone that I have in my head and heart that I've not been able to translate into tone from my rig. It covers everything from light OD to Heavy OD and Distortion. When used with the Java Boost and the Fuzz Head it's OVER THE TOP.

This is a very musical pedal. I've heard other reviewers say that about the pedals they were reviewing, but never have experienced it myself until now. My Strat sounds like a Strat at any setting with the OCD! Enough Said!!!

Reliability : 10
Extememly Well built.

Customer Support : 7
They are quick to respond to emails and offer good advice and help. They are a bit "matter of fact" about their stuff; but they can afford to be

Overall Rating : 10
Overall: Pedals come and go (sometimes on a almost daily basis) but the OCD Stays!

okay the whole thing about this pedal is IMO is dont plug it in to a totally clean fender (type) amp with brilliant high end and expect this pedal to sound good ... its gonna ice pick in the ears ya!!!
there's no mid range hump in it at all (like a tube screamer) this is both a good thing and a bad thing depending on how you use it .... I feel this pedal sounds it best when you are playing with a "darker tone" and then you kick this pedal on and it sounds fantastic, very transparent sounding ... I've found it sounds best with my old 73 50 watt marshall and a les paul... when I use it with my 68 super reverb and tele or a strat its not that great ... its a little too thin sounding for my liking ( i prefer the king of tone pedal with the clean fender amp ) .... I especially like the ocd with a good Strat and my 69 plexi 100 watt marshall. the tone is great especialy when the "gain" on the pedal is backed down to about 2 o'clock and you ride the volume pot on the strat you can go from a great clean tone to a smokin tone ... i also prefered the hp better then the lp

Reliability : 9
This is made really well as far as I can tell ....... I dont anticipate any problems

I've been playing guitar for 31 years and I make my living playing guitar I do over 300 gigs a year and i've worked with many different artists over the years.
I play all styles of music and i have many guitars and amps too many to list here .... i like the ocd pedal. i use it occasionally for certian tone. i use other pedals more frequently like my analog man king of tone, ts9 with the silver mod, Klon and a keeley ts9 3x saturation.
overall this is a good pedal for a great in your face tone IMO ... i like it much better then my analogman modded ds1

I keep the volume at 9 o'clock, gain at 1 o'clock and the tone at 1 o'clock - I like the HP setting as it has the crunch that I like - EASY TO USE BUT LIKE ANYTHING YOU MUST DIAL IT IN BASED ON YOUR EARS

Sound Quality : 10
A friend of mine Randy Jacobs of the Boneshakers turned ne on to this thing and I gotta tell you - it's a fabulous pedal, Robin Trower and Jeff Golub use these as well (just a point of reference)
this pedal has a crunchy yet clean overdrive that is fat and sustainy and badass what else can I say I use it in conjunction with my FD-2 and the two of them give me a balls out Hendrixy, Trower lead tone - I don't use it for rhythm though as it too dirty in a sense - my board goes like this Fulltone Wah>Voodoo Labs Microvibe>FD-2>OCD>Boss DD-2 thru a Fender VibroKing or MB 2C+ or Marshall JCM-800 2 channel w/ reverb 65' Strat or 73' Strat, G-L's cables, planet waves pedal board cables

Reliability : 10
No probs so far I drive my board with a one-spot (which is very good I might add)

I've had Mike Fuller fix my wah several times so I don't expect to have any issues should the ocd go belly up

I play in a gigging band in San Francisco called Fog City Soul Review and we do 70's/80's soul and funk - I'm primarily a rhythm player but I do get a chance to let it rip on occasion and the OCD is my secret weapon it just rips in a musical way - it just has A presence about it that is unmistakeable - I'm very partial to Fulltone stuff as his pedals are well made, look great and tuned for Strats. I have a Dist Pro that I like too but the OCD has a unique character that is hard to explain you simply have to get one and try it...At first I wasn't sold but when I took it on a gig it came to life and I was like WOW!!! a LIVE GIGGING SITUATION IS ALWAYS THE REAL TEST FOR ME...

Basic dirtbox features. The HP / LP switch is kind of nice. It might have been nicer if the power jack was towards the top of the pedal instead of next to the output jack. I have patch cables with angled tips so that *can* be a MINOR issue.

Sound Quality : 5
The quality of the distortion is very good. Dynamic and complex sounding, some amp-like qualities. Not a plexi by any means though, not that you could really expect that out of a stompbox. Otherwise the sound has a very clean sort of quality that makes it sound expensive, but it sort of lacks some mojo if you know what I mean (its a little sterile). Try and turn the gain up and this thing is an ICEPICK!!! I tried it with a variety of amps and guitars. Deluxe, JTM 45, telecasters, strat, 335. The pedal is an icepick. You can turn the tone down, but the sound gets dark and mushy before the painful high end resolves.

Compared to a boss pedal the sound quality is acceptable, but given the price of this unit and all of the claims mike fuller makes regarding its performance... 5

Reliability : 10
Very solid!!

Customer Support : 2
Mike fuller is kind of an @$$. If you agree with me, but think you need to suck it up and depend on him for good pedals anyways, I suggest checking out some of the other boutique pedal makers. For just about every fulltone pedal theres another, similar boutique that people claim sounds better. Plus you don't have to deal with fulltone. I guess if you like to be a suckup though, fulltone might help you out if you ever had issues.

Overall Rating : 3
I'm sorry to say that I ultimately had to sell this unit on ebay. I could never get the treble properly balanced without sounding dark and mushy / sterile. It was just too bright for any musical style. If your amps is VERY dark, hey, maybe you'll be alright.

pretty standard od pedal layout. fairly easy to dial in tones.

i can see why tons of people love the OCD. very smooth, very "nice" sounding. i'm not going to say it's a bad pedal. it's just too "nice" sounding for what i need. too smooth for me(i know "too smooth, what are you complaining about?" right?). i need a nastier tone that i just couldn't elicit from the OCD.

i generally crank smaller lower wattage combos and that's where i get the bulk of my overdrive. i only use the stompbox to kick it up a notch for solos or particulaly "heavy" parts.

this is great stompbox, just not the right one for me.

It's a 3 knob overdrive pedal with a switch which changes the mid peak. pretty simple stuff.

Sound Quality : 6
Be careful here. I'll explain my situation. I live in Australia, so when it comes to brands like Fulltone, nobody over here sells them, so the only real way for me to try it out is to buy it online from musictoyz. I bought this pedal based purely on the amount of hype it gets. I figured i couldn't really go wrong. At the very least i'd get a decent OD pedal.
Essentially this happened. I got a decent OD. It's good, not great imo. Being Aussie, I've been using MI Audio pedals and in all honesty i think my Tube Zone and Blue Boy pedals sound much better.
Now here's the catch, everyone talks about the transparency of this pedal, and it's true the overdrive is VERY transparent, very touch sensitive and responsive to volume knob adjustments, which i use ALL THE TIME, it's probably my main tone shaping device actually. The problem i had was that these qualities were excellent, but the actual overdrive sound just wasn't that good. The MI Tube Zone just has a better overdrive sound, and it's still very responsive and dynamic, doesn't clean up QUITE as well but the sound is just hands down better, and most of the time i don't really want it to clean up completely anyway. I get many many comments on the tube zone, it sounds incredible, and i know just from listening to the sound of the OCD that it isn't enought for people to actually comment on.
Compared to a Boss this thing would still totally kick ass, but compared to my MI Audio pedals, i don't think it stands up. I'll keep it, but it'll be my backup overdrive.
I should also add that it's a much better sound for bluesy lead guitar. It's not really a rhythm overdrive sound. Tends to get lost in the mix and doesn't really cut despite having quite a lot of high end. I'd rather use an OD that does both lead and rhythm, ie the tube zone.
If you can, try before you buy. if you live in Australia, well you'll just have to take the plunge like me most likely. After all, 49/50 people seem to be happy with it, odds are in your favour! (or just get a MI Tube Zone and be done with it). If you try it and like it then by all means buy it and be happy.

Oh btw i play a 62 Reissue Custom Telecaster, into a 72 Fender Vibrochamp and 66 Princeton. So don't go thinking i'm using crappy gear, cos i'm not. I know good tone, and imo the OCD is really only about a 6. I'm not using it much.

Reliability : 9
Seems to be quite solid, Fulltone stuff generally is. It's well made.

Customer Support : No Opinion
I've heard that Mike Fuller is just one helluva busy lad, and appreciates not being bothered about trivial matters. i have no need to contact him about the pedal but should the need ever arise i will be sure to omit any comments about the weather, my girlfriend or problems with my car if i don't use premium unleaded. I'm sure he would appreciate this.

Overall Rating : 6
Really i've said what i wanted to say. It's a decent pedal, but i can't help but feel a little bit dissapointed. Everything i'd read led me to believe this pedal would set my tone on fire, and in all honesty this didn't happen, not even close. still, i'll keep it. it does have a fairly nice tone for a bluesy lead sound with drive ~3, but it's just not as exciting a sound as the tube zone. Sorry, i really wanted to like this pedal but it just needed to sound better.

Volume, Drive, Tone and HP/LP switch. The LP setting is a lower gain more natural sound. It adds a nice distortion without changing the sound of the guitar. The HP settings has a lot of boost and makes you sound "fatter" and in someways smoother. The manual is short and to the point but the best thing to do is just get the volume setup for unity and try it out. This pedal has a ton of boost to it so be carefull

Sound Quality : 10
I normally use this on a lower "distortion" settings. V 10 oclock, D 10 oclock, tone 11-12 oclock and the switch on LP. With a American Strat (with Lindy fralins) into a Dr Z Maz 38 sr this things is awesome. I can set the amp up to a nice clean sound and kick in the OCD for just the right amount of dirt. It really gives the sound of a tube amp being pushed hard. The distortion fades out nicely not like some pedals that have "ugly" tails to the distortion. I own a bunch of distortion pedals (TS9, SD-1, DS-1, 69 pedal, Distortion Pro, Sparkle Drive, Full Drive 2, Bottle Rocket, Screamin Blues and a bunch of custom pedals) and this is the best by far.

Reliability : 10
I have owned a bunch of fulltone pedals and they are built like a rock. The only backup you will need is a battery because you won't want to turn it off.

Customer Support : 9
I have also email Mike and he has replied everytime.

Simple to use. 3 knobs. A switch for a gainier smoother (somewhat) sound. You don't want to just dime out the knobs, I keep the drive turned down between 2 and 6 most of the time, the tone hovers in the middle area. I like the HP switch position a little better than the LP unless I am going for a chunkier tone

Sound Quality : 10
This thing sounds like the amp is just turned up and breaking up on its own. It reminds me of a BF Fender super reverb cranked. Other reviewers have called the pedal harsh or complained about the high end, and it does have alot of high end and it is gritty , it sounds pretty much like a BF fender cranked up loud, if you don't like that sound, its the wrong pedal for you. It isn't really smooth, thats not what its for. I can smooth it out with my barber compressor, especially if I run the compressor first, but that spoils the point of this pedal. Its extremely touch sensative and dynamic, and it really doesn't sound like a pedal.
If you turn the gain all the way down and center the tone, and try to use it as a clean boost, its going to color the tone a little, but thats not what its for. I think alot of people who don't like this pedal are expecting it to be something other than their tube amp turned up louder.

Reliability : 10
You could use it for a hammer in a pinch.

Overall Rating : 10
I use it with my 63 Gibson Scout amp, running a 57 les paul special or a 71 strat into it. Both sound great but the strat especially likes this pedal. I didn't like it as much with my late 70s twin, but I don't much like that thing anyway, i think its the speakers. Sounds really great for my blues gig on that Gibson amp. This isn't a real high gain type pedal, again , it really is more like a 60s era tube amp cranked to break up, it is very sensative to what gear you run through it, pretty transparent. It has enough extra boost to help get my 17 watt Gibson amp over the drummer. Makes that amp sound alot more full and present also.
This isn't for metal or singing Santana stuff or phishyness, it is for a gritty detailed bluesy funky power tube type breakup. I haven't heard anything better in a pedal for that.

I have a 64'Fender Deluxe blackface with a 63'fender strat and 64'gibson SG, and I'm going bad cause I didn't find a pedal to overdrive the amp, without volume at 1 o'clock, until purchase OCD. This pedal is fantastic because with the amp at lower volume you can get amount of drive to figure the zeppellin sound. It's very quiet and the setting that I used is that Mike Fuller said in the fulltone's site: vol-10 o'clock; tone- 10 o'clock ; drive-3 o'clock. I have other Fulltone pedal to get the sound of Hendrix, like the '69, and some other pedals like TC's (Chorus/Flanger); Expandora-I; vintage RAT; Ibanez (TS9- CF5); BOSS (DD2- DC2) Cry Baby Dunlop (with Dan Torres Kit) MXR (Dyna Comp)

The Fullton OCD is an extremely easy pedal to use. It has a knob for level and a knob for gain. It also has a switch to change between a high output type setting they claim to be more like a Marshall and a low setting they claim tobe more like a pushed Fender. I think they both sound Marshall(which is okay with me). It can be difficult to change batteries because you have to take the case apart. Otherwise it is a tank and extremely well built.

Fender Jazzmaster with seymour duncan pickups. Seymour duncan pickup booster, OCD, keeley loop bypass with a Boss DD-2, Ibanez CS-9, big Muff. Into a Vox AC 15 with an Eminence Red Fang speaker. Very quit and the true bypass works! I really like the sound. It's not a tube screamer type pedal which was what I was looking for. I'm not a tubescreamer fan, which makes the OCD a good alternative. I really like the sound. At lower levels it can be fuzzy but this pedal really shines when the amp is pushed to the top and the pedal adds a boost and drive that enhances the natural distortion of the power tubes. I find it works best with an older type aamp where the power tubes do the work especially an AC30 or 15 or even a marshall plexi. The sound is perfect for me. I'm giving it a 10 because it was exactly the sound I was looking for. Before I bought this pedal I tried all of Keeley's modded pedals and some other boutique pedals. But this one was the one.

Easy, almost plug n'play. HP, Lp switch. volumue, tone, and gain.
Almost too much head room on the volume. My only "complaint", if you wanna even call it that.

I consider this a distortion pedal. Fulltone doesn't seem to really clarify this. It doesn't really seem to work as an overdrive pedal to hit your amp's distortion with. But then again 99% of actual overdrive pedals don't work that well doing that either.

Sound Quality : 9
Telecaster into Ernieball vp jr volume, Boss trem, Barber Tone Press(bad ass comp), slammin on the OCD into the front end of a Bogner Shiva. Choralflange and DLS Echotap in the loop. Blends with ALL my fx wonderfully, especially the Tone Press. With the gain up full, and the tone press on, IT WILL SHRED. Not noisy at all, as far as hiss and squelch, feedback etc however I keep the volume at 9 o'clock in LP mode. Tis a LOUD little guy,as far as output at least in my setup.

As far as tone goes, IT IS NOT A TUBESCREAMER. No midrange bark. Wonderful high end. Tight bottom. I could go on and on and bore you, but to make it interesting my girlfriend said its sounds very "seductive". I've since renamed it "the panty-removing pedal".

Whether or not you like the tone may be up to one's own ears, but you CANNOT dispute the fact that IT does sound and FEEL like an tube amp REALLY COOKING!! I plugged this into a little multi-effect unit I use in my apartment for silent practicing, and WOW!! It really sounded like a wall of stacks. I could almost imagine the smell of the tubes frying. They're also not kidding about the dynamics. I personally don't get a Marshall vibe out of it thank goodness, but the Bogner's dist has that covered already, and that's why I got the OCD. I don't need two Marshally tones. If you have a Fender and your looking for chunk, this may be one of your best bets. I played this through a Deville in the store, and I picked it up that day.

I purchased the OCD 1 year ago so I have had time to play with it extensively, ( this is not a 2 day honeymoon review.) The unit is easy enough to understand having the usual 3 knob layout, the only difference is the mini toggle switch located next to the bright blue LED. I keep this switch in the up (boosted) position at all times. It is easy enough to get good tone happening right away with the OCD, it doesn't do anything so extreme that it would muddy up the tone. It always sounds musical to me.

Sound Quality : 10
My review for the OCD is based on (at home) use only, I am not out gigging and trying to cut through a bassist and drummer. I do record at home but at lower volumes. I have in comparison several other pedals all of which I have had for quite some time. The line up includes an Xotic BB preamp, Xotic RC booster, Direct Drive, Barber LTD silver, Digitec Bad Monkey, Boss DS1 and OD3, Danelectro Fab overdrive. These are just the (mid) grind pedals, they all sound a little different and each has it's thing that it does. I am only 2 miles from Super Sound Music and guitar Center so I have had the opertunity to try out loads of stuff. Of all my pedals the OCD would most likely be the (one) I would keep if I was told I could only have One pedal and right now it is the only grind pedal on my board. It is very articulate and cleans up real well with just my guitars volume knob..I can go from clean to blues crunch to a singing type higher gain overdrive. The OCD has actually more grind than any of the other pedals listed above, this is a good thing. Pick attack is outstanding with this pedal and it responds just like a tube amp, like others have said it is just like an extention of the amp. The bass is tight and has great tone, not loose or flabby at all. Quality sound all the way through this pedal.

Reliability : 10
Very good build quality, has never let me down. Sturdy!

I play mostly rock but dabble in a little of everything. I have been playing 41 years and have had and or sold more stuff than most people will ever own. My main amp is a Genz Benz El'Diablo C30/60 combo (tube amp.) I would buy this pedal again as nothing else I have tried matches what the OCD can do. Through (my) amp this thing sounds and feels outstanding. Would I change anything about the OCD?.. well, I really like silent switching (for recording purposes) I really like the Digitec Bad Monkeys silent pedal switch and I guess I would lose the mini toggle as I only use the top position, there is too much of a volume loss in the down position. Still a quality great sounding piece. I'll be ordeing a Zen Drive very soon so we will see if the OCD can still stay on top. What are my qualifications for diong this review?..... 41 years guitar player and recording, have had songs reviewed in Recording magazine as well as being in Giitar Player Magazine 2005 (Spotlight on Talent) and 3 full length solo cd's in 2005. When it comes right down to it though.. it's your ears and your fingers and what you want to hear as to how the OCD will work for you. I like it.

I just want to gush about this pedal. It nails the classic marshall overdrive sound. Full and rich. Lovely dynamics, it has an elastic feel to it. Never played any od pedal that sounds and feels like this on. Gorgeous for thick rock chords n leads.

This pedal fills the missing slot in my distortion / od options.

Jeff beck strat, AS strat with dg20 emg electrics, AS tele.

mxr stereo chorus, mxr flanger, boss ns2, boss tu2, boss ge7, analogman comprossor, fulltone dejavibe II, BOss pw10 wah, boss giga delay, EHX holy grail, fulltone fulldrive II mos fet edition, OCD, Pete Cornish ss2/P2 duplex all into a british made HIWATT custom 20 head (new one - awesome worth every penny) and a UK HIWATT 2x12 cab loaded with celestions.

I use the fulldrive only for clean boosts - it gives me 2 lovely chimey rich boost levels on tap, the ss2 for a more brittle crunch / lead sound, the P2 for that gilmour big muff sound, and the OCD for that thick saturated marshall overdrive sound.

The pedal sounds great with all 3 guitars - it loves single coils and
its particularly good for thick tele riffing. Feeds back in a very musical way. And all the strat/marshall type heavy sounds with tye srats. The EMG loaded strat sings anyway and it also loves this pedal. The closest Trower sound I've yet achieved - jeff beck strat, ocd, comprossor, and mini dejavibe.

I've tried just about every OD pedal out there... the OCD is the one for me. LOads of bass middle and treble. NOt just a middle boost. Completey different beast to a tubescreamer... which is great for a mid emphasised sound.

Im submitting this to maybe help someone out cause when I bought this pedal it went right back. I always have a pedal infront of whatever amp im playing when it comes to overdrive. I have the gain up at 50% on the amp and a little on a pedal for a 3D sound. The controls on this thing are very, very sensitive. every thing was up only about 25% no more.

Sound Quality : 8
I have a maxon od808 which is just bitchin but I use it for the metal stuff cause its so aggressive. It has a tone of midrange which works perfect for aggressive metal so I was looking for somethin of the opposite for mellower stuff-something with flat mids. Tryed this pedal cause of the reviews it got and it completely did not work. I mean when you use this thing in the CLEAN CHANNEL its sound is prestine-perfect. Total vox/marshall - completely british. As british as it gets. Mean growl and shit loads of attack - my first thought was Sublime! When I used it on the dirty channel it just came apart. Mushed-out, attack was gone. I am very conservative with the gain especially at high volumes. I turn the gain all the way down on the amp and pedal - didnt work.

Im not going to bash this pedal because it sounds good for what its supposed to do I think. If I was getting OLD and grew up from the classic rock era It would prolly work....But i didnt. I see this pedal as acting as extra dirty channel to a fender type amp. It sounds so rolling stones/zepplin like. But if you already have a marshall....well?
