Clean, Mean & scream...the tone knob works, and the solo knob does a great job as well..the very best really...

I work in a boutique music store, and this year I must have played on over 100 new handmade pedals...This Cream-tone is the real deal. I liked it on a few amps at the store, but when I played with it live with my band, it was the very best OD pedal I ever played. No noise, great feel, and tone for days. I used it with single coils and a Les Paul with wagner humbuckers, both had the same results..excellent...
I play on a Cornford Hellcat with a DR Z best cab with vintage 30's..
I really love some OD pedals out there, like the Barber direct drive and the fulltone OCD..but this pedal sounds REAL..you can feel it with your fingers..the tone is like a sweet milkshake..I am really blown away with this pedal...

Reliability : 10
built very very well...I think I can toss this off a bridge and it would still work great the next gig..

A big correction to my review below.

The last 400 or so are now shipping with user tweakable dip switches on the inside which provide drive and bass cuts. (Like the old Expandora.)

Mine was set to bass cut and drive boost. I opened it up and boosted the bass and cut the drive. Enormous improvement for single coils. OK, it gets my vote.

Sound Quality : 10
It still doesn't deliver what I expected, but now it's full fidelity and it's smoothed out. Very useable. Huge difference. And it's alot quieter.

However, still a little put off by the lack of a little signal trim knob considering it's lack of input sensitivity. But, since I slammed it before, it has to get a make-up 10.

So, if you have a newer model check the internal dip settings. Big difference, Also, ships with a new duracell battery, nice touch.

To the manufacture, I'd put a warning tag on the front of the pedal that the user needs to reconfig the internal dip switches to the rig before using. It wasn't obvious, and it's a great to have feature once you know it needs tweaking.

Bought new, and only a days work-out on it so far. Not what I expected at all, and my take is different from many of the reviews below. I agree the light-switch protocal is terrific, but the lay-out of the knobs means you can't easily adjust them with your toe. That's a fairly obvious oversight. I also think it's a faily noisy pedal with tone or drive past 12 o'clock. To me, much of the pedal just isn't useable due to the moise.

Sound Quality : 5
Fender custom strat w/Kinmans running through a 10 band eq into a Fender C-D in series with a Marshall TSL.

I think this rig's tone was v.good before the pedal. With this pedal, the sound compresses and the bottom end drops out. All the overdrive is skewed mid-upper freqs. It also sounds grainy or sizzly, fairly artifical. In contrast, I do like the solo switch, the riff notes fuse together well, stay articulate, have decent bloom. Overall, nothing like the sound clips I've listened to...my rig sounds a good deal more vintage OD before kicking in this pedal.

More...this pedal likes a heavy signal. I needed to move my pups up, and experiment with boosting the signal gain from the eq going into the pedal. It improved it's performance nicely boosting the input signal, but that shouldn't be necessary ... imho.

I guess you could say it's very rig dependent. It does sound much better coming through the Fender amp compared to the Marshall. But overall, an unnecessary addition to the pedal board.

Reliability : 10
Built like a tank, Extremely nice construction & materials,

Overall Rating : 5
If you buy one, be sure you're within the window to send it back. The solo switch will probably tip the scales for me, but it's horribly overpriced for it's useful performance. If you have no master gain, eq, modeling capability or soak on your rig, I guess this can serve alot of purposes. Frankly, I think I could find one of those Danelectro pedals that does what this can do for me for 1/4th the cost. But, hope it works great for you. If nothing else, it's a joy to look at.

i think a chimp could operate this pedal and actually get really good tone.

Sound Quality : 10
i have been playing since 1966 and until recently was doing more than 300 shows a year. in all that time, not one pedal, and i have owned hundreds, has ever made it into my rig. i would buy them, play with them at home, and then sell them. none of them were worth what they did to kill the sound of a great guitar plugged into a great amp.

i got this pedal for fathers day and i kinda thought, "jeez why didn't they get me a tie?" "i don't have one of those."

5 minutes into playing with it, i cannot imagine ever going without this pedal again! i play a Musicman Albert Lee signiture thru an old red Tone King Imperial. ( i wrote a review). with this pedal i can get the sound of my amp turned all the way up at ANY volume. i don't mean cheesey master volume overdrive turned up. i mean no master volume on a black face deluxe turned up to 10 at any playing volume i want.

this is the holy grail of pedals if you worship TONE.

Reliability : 10
i intend on depending on it. i play A TON. my stuff takes a beating!

i will probably buy another one just in case because i am wierd like that.

i once owned 3 Pink Sunburst Albert Lee Guitars that were identical... just in case.

but one sounded "special" so i would never play the other 2 unless i had an horrible emergency. therapy is really helping with that.

Customer Support : 10
nicest guys i ever talked to.

Overall Rating : 10
i am really really fussy. like i can't stand myself because it's impossible for me to find anything i like and can stick with.

i have owned one of every vintage guitar you can think of, except les pauls, teles, and strats of which i have owned DOZENS. i played vintage just because they really were BETTER, but honestly there are little guys out there now making new stuff that is every bit as good or better and you can sell all your vintage stuff for stupid money to people who don't even play! i settled on the Albert Lee model because my dream guitar would have been a smaller hard tail strat with an unfinished maple tele neck and bridge pick up and that's what it kinda is. it took about 30 years to find a guitar i really love, and i never would have believed it would be new! now i wish i could just find another guitar i would actually play.

for amps i always used black face deluxes and vibroluxes and blonde bassmans, but i don't think when they built them that they were really made to play hard for 50 years! it got to the point that every filter cap had been replaced 6 times along with almost every other part and you start wondering when it stops being a vintage amp. i found playing so much as i do, vintage fender amps just were not dependable for me. so i bought the Tone King IMperial brand new about 10 years ago and I will never own another amp.

what i love about this pedal is it lets me get the sound of my amp and guitar cranked up at any volume, so i never have to deal with the amp being too loud for a room ever again. i would never use an amp with a master volume control. i am a big believer in lower wattage amps turned up but sometimes when you get the sound you want you are really
too loud. this pedal solves that problem.

i also love that it is so easy to set up and operate that it doesn't interfer with my drinking! i play roots music and oddly enough orchestra pit show stuff. if you want heavy metal over drive, this is not the pedal. spend your money on spandex.

Ease of Use : 10
Very easy to use. Controls are Volume, Tone, Solo, and Drive. Two footswitches, one for bypass and the other to engage the Solo level and bump up the output. Three LED's provide explicit status as to whether the unit is on or off and whether it is in blues or solo mode. Solo mode seems to add extra kick to the level; it does not seem to add extra Drive.

Sound Quality : 10
In one simple word this pedal sounds GREAT; extremely natural, extremely articulate. I keep the Tone, Solo, and Volume all at about 2 o'clock, and the Drive at about 10 o'clock. Through an early 70s (non-master volume) Deluxe Reverb this thing is heaven.

If you listen closely to the distorted part of the signal from most overdrive pedals, the 'dirt' part produced sounds like crap. In a quiet room, a good amp will almost always sound better with a good guitar plugged straight into the amp. In my case, the guitars are an original '65 Strat and a Don Grosh Strat style guitar with maple fingerboard. It's amazing when you really listen, how much worse most pedals sound than the amp alone. Usually, most of the sweetness of a good amp is lost. Most overdrives ruin the sense of 'space' around a note because they are overbearing.

Not really so with the Cream-Tone. This is indeed a mild overdrive and it fattens the signal without becoming ugly and grotesque. It really does provide the feel of playing through an amp that is breaking up slightly, at least the way I set it. It's a very organic pedal and does not really sound like an effect.

Live in small clubs the Cream-Tone sounds wonderful. I don't need to play over the top to get my sound. As a matter of fact, I can get an expressive Strat tone without bludgeoning the audience; I'm talking about a tone that allows me to focus more on being a musician and less on twiddling dials. I get the note definition and the extra slight push that I need. Set it and forget it.

And this pedal is sensitive to volume changes on the guitar. I sometimes find that I have left it on for an entire set without realizing it, the tone is that non-imposing, and I can get a range of tones simply by using the volume control.

If you're into good tube tone, this thing is simply not overbearing; it sounds natural and my guitars keep their identities.

When I need more saturated tones I follow the Cream-Tone with a TC Jauernig DGTM (a nicely voiced pedal but one that has more of its own sound) which I usually use in conjunction with the Cream-Tone. When I want really clean tones, I'll turn off the Cream-Tone and turn on a Jauernig Luxury Drive which provides a sweet and full clean boost. Between these three pedals, I can cover a very large range of sounds, from clean to full on saturation through a Deluxe Reverb.

Reliability : 9
This pedal is overall very reliable and I would gig without a backup. I did have a faulty volume pot but Dave at G2D sent me another one and that solved the problem.

Customer Support : 10
G2D gets HIGHEST praise for support. I e-mailed them when my volume pot was cutting out in certain places. Dave sent a new one to the East Coast USA from New Zealand at no charge, but it was somehow lost in transit. So when I e-mailed him he promptly sent me another one, AGAIN no charge, with thorough step-by-step instructions for swapping out the old one. How can you beat that?

Overall Rating : 10
I'd buy this pedal again. The Cream-Tone provides a subtle amount of gain that interacts with my tube amp's natural breakup characteristics; hard to tell whether the breakup is coming from the amp or the pedal. It just sounds natural. It does not ruin the sound of an already good sounding amp and that in itself is a feat. Most overdrive pedals do not sound natural, and I've owned and played quite a few, even one touted as the 'King'. The best thing about this pedal is that it allows me to forget about it and concentrate on making music.

Read my review on the Morpheus....

Put it this way " You shouldn't be playing with electric guitars if you can't work this out"

Has two switches so could be confusing for drummers.

Mine is a 2006 model with the internal settings for boosting or cutting the Bass and Drive.

Sound Quality : 10
Beautiful creamy overdrive with buckets full of tone all my amps love it. Makes it a joy to play the guitar.

I really enjoy using this pedal and would say it works really well with a valve amp and a nice guitar.

I play Strats and it makes them sing.

Easy to setup and has lots of editability, you cannot fail to get a good sound from this unit.

Reliability : 10
I would throw it in the van and take it all over the world on tour.

4 knobs, tone , volume, drive, and solo. Im guessing you are already familiar with the 3 first knowbs, the last one is to set up the level for the volume boost. It is pretty easy to mess with it. You can't find a bad sound in it. Everything is clear , perfect and georgeus.

Sound Quality : 10
Excellent. It is seriously the best overdrive i've heard. It is so transparent but hard at the same time. Its the kind of overdrive that you've been searching for all your life. If you like blues, country , indie rock ala death cab for cutie or any type of rock, you can't go wrong buying a cream tone.

Reliability : 10
It seems pretty solid. It looks and feels like a tank. I dont think im gonna have any pproblems with this unit.

This is the best overdrive period. Don't go for the classic TS808 copy . find something original and unique. GET THE CREAM TONE YOU WONT REGRET IT.

Very simple to use , it sounds very good
No harm how you turn the knobs

Sound Quality : 10
A realy very good sounding "Brown OD" , it sounds like it looks like.
I would say you can dial in every "Vintage OD" sounds ,you are dreaming of.Very good to blow on my Fenders to Blues Heaven from
nearly clean to 6 o'Clock.
The "Tone Knob" seems to be passive you can only dial out highs.
And best of it all it has a Solo Boost with its own Volume Knob.
The Solo switch pushes the highs a little bit.
If you are a more "Spartan" Pedal user you need only this!!!
And its very silent
"Plug in and sing"

Very simple to use, even a drummer could work it out,if he could play
guitar that is. Simple is always best.

Sound Quality : 10
The sound quality is SUPERB. But firstly, sound quality comes from your Amp/speakers, this unit is there to enhance that quality. Its
settings allow for you to dial in the full spectrum of tone from clean
boost to Texas Drive. The Bypass has minimal effect on the tone.
Its the best I've found at what it does. Its simply the BEST '50s
Vintage Fender amp in a small affordable box!!! The clean settings
ARE Clean, and the Drive is warm and syrupy.

Reliability : 10

Had the pedal now for 12 months, only one very minor prob, one Led
light failed on the bypass switch. E-mailed Dave, not a problem, sent
it over, quick turnaround. They fixed it, signed/dated the internal
label, performed flawlessly ever since.

These guys care about what they build, the quality is all there.
It shows in the Build and Sound of the unit.

Customer Support : 10
Total Customer Support. A pleasure to deal with.

Overall Rating : 10

I've had many many pedals over the years. All the Vintage stuff,
some good, a LOT not that impressive given their vintage mojo and
vintage PRICE!!!
I've found todays boutique pedals to be amongst the best ever made. Quality components, experienced Builders taking the old
circuits to the next level, quiet in operation, great sound
quality. I am lucky enough to have a few old Tweed Fenders, Champ,
Princeton, Deluxe, Super. All stock original. This pedal Nails
their tone, through other amps. Through the Fenders it enhances the
original tone, with NO colouration. If you want a vintage tweed
amp, without shelling out the big $, Look no further.
Is this a Great Pedal..... Damn Right.
