Two knobs. One for level (Output) and the other is for compression (Sensitivity). Attack knob is on the inside of the case. Easy to get a good sound out of it.
No Manual.

Setup = 84 American Strat equipped w Noiseless pickups, 91 Charvel w Dimarzio Area 58 and 61 pickups, or 73 Ibanez Les Paul copy equipped with Seymour Duncans. All w gauge 10s. Crate Palomino v32 212. Connect by itself with monster cables and thru my Carl Martin Combinator 2 with George L cables. Also tested with Vox Pathfinder model v9158, Fender FM 100 head, Marshall MG 250 DFX.
Settings = very transparent at lower levels. Can distort at louder settings. I usually set the pedal the output at noon and up to 2 o'clock. I keep the Sensitivity at 9 o'clock for tight rhythm work, 1 to 2 o'clock for soloing, and 11 for strumming.
Sound = very quite pedal. great for clean work. great for solos. not noisy. will slightly distort at high levels.

problem with power adapter jack and led light. I noticed that the pedal is on but no led light. I jiggled the power adapter cable or take it out and in and the led will come on.

Soul, funk, r&b, blues, rock, latin, latin rock, tejano, jazz,???
been playing 25 plus years
I own Boss, Ibanez, Morley, RMC Teese, DOD, Alesis, Digitech, MXR, Aphex, and Analogman modded pedals.
I would think about replacing this pedal. Good pedal but I would like to see an Attack knob on the outside.
Great compressor pedal compared to DOD, Aphex, Ibanez, Boss. I found Alesis and DBX compression works better for me.

Takes time to dial in the Attack. This is adjustable from the inside with a tiny screw driver.(A Thumb Wheel woulda been cool.) It's a pain in the A#$ but.. This Pedal easily compete's with any compressor pedal I've played. Dyna Comps, Keeley etc.

I LOVE this friggin Pedal. I play Rock, Blues, Funk, Jazz, and I'm a mean chicken Picker... played pro for years. These are the tests I do when trying compressors.
- Jangle ( Beatles, Byrds, Neil Young etc.)
- Funk (From Hendrix Castle's M O Sand , James Brown etc.
- Chicken Pickin' Pedal steel type bends etc.
- Lead ( How does it do with O.D. in Front?)
FK-1 Shines at all of them.
Keeley more transparent but Teese Rounder(?), Keelley's is hard to tell when on sometimes! Teese gives sound the quality of a cool 70's recording.. The FK1 and keeley sound within 95% of each other though.
Dyna Comp..... Funky, has it's own sound.Reissues are Tone Suckers, and VERY difficult to True bypass, also, NO ATTACK Knob. Sucks for lead.. Bass and high end sparkle go bye bye. Cool Jangle,Chicken pickin, and Funky stuff... but LOTS of tonal Coloration.

Same switch as his wahs, ( had an RMC 3, didn't live up to the hype for me, but well made. (I think I got a dog.)
True Bypass? yeah. always with Teese.

Rite now Music toyz is blowin these things out for $79!!!!
I jumped on it... They screwed my order up, it took 2 weeks to get, (Instead of the 3 days they originally mentioned,) But he told me they were sold out, and just recieved 4 dozen new ones. I was like...that's cool.... I'll take....1! Nice folks though. For that price I aint gonna bith about NUFFIN.
I would've paid the $125 MSRP and still been Laughin.

It's very simple to use except that the attack time parameter is located in the unit on a trim pot. I found that I had to adjust this if I wanted to use double coils because it dropped the overall level
slightly. If you leave it on a lot, it shouldn't matter. It gets knocked to an 8 for making me use a screwdriver.

I use a Strat, PRS, Reverend, and a Tele. through various true bypass pedals through a Reverend Hellhound and a Rivera TBR.
For my purposes, it is quiet as I set the volume near full and the compression at no more that 9:00 in general. I get enough squish this way for slide and for country/blues pick and fingerstyle as well as pick style. For controlled feedback, I can jack up the compression a little.
The frequency response is amazing! This is what sold me. I use a demeter Compulator for my acoustic because it keeps it sounding like an acoustic, but I'm sure I could use this for that purpose too.
I get great chime out of my Strat and Tele effortlessly.

I had it for 2 months and I think I could depend on it but a back up is not a bad idea and is possible at $125.

I play blues, rock, jazz, ambient, country, metal, jam, and anything else under the sun. I play for a singer/songwriter and open up for many national acts from Joe Cocker to the B52s.
I've been playing for 35 years. I just sold my Dynacomp as this replaces it nicely. I will keep the Demeter as this is an optical compressor and works in a more transparent way like a Focusrite does.
The RMC sounds great and sounds very true and musical. I highly recommend this as the pedal. The price is more than fair as most pedals of this caliber run around $200. Try it on a gig and see what it does for your on stage sound.
It gets a 10 for "Fantastic Value"

This sits on a pedal board with this at the front. Tested alone, it's quiet, tested with the rest of my bits n' bobs (anything from Analgman's Juicer to a Line 6 Distortion modeller to a truly wasted Arion Chorus pedal), it's still quiet at reasonable settings, only getting noisy once the knobs go further clockwise.
I bought this at the same time as my Juicer and also compared it to a rather dead DOD FX80 compressor and the compressor on my Focusrite Trakmaster pre-amp. To my ears it's very transparent and doesn't colour the sound to a great degree, certainly less so the Juicer, and compares very well indeed to the compressor on the Trakmaster. I like to use this unit with my bass guitar and, as the writer below says, it does sound good with an acoustic guitar. My favourite guitar to push through it is my Rickenbacker 360, it just sounds wonderful. It sounds pretty fine with my Epiphone Dot and DeArmond X-155 archtop so should be fine with any guitar you pick up.

I have more studio recording gear than pedal gear and get to handle some fairly expensive goods. In terms of compression this is a great unit for uncoloured, good quality compression. I actually prefer the Analogman Juicer simply because it is coloured to my ears and sounds fabulous, so each pedal adopts a specific niche in my arsenal. The Juicer is mostly used for level increases and some fuzzy grumble in the mix, something the FK-1 isn't quite as good at doing. Simply put: if you want a great compressor that gives a great uncoloured sound, go for this. If all of Geoffrey's pedals are this good, and at such a good price compared to other boutique/non-mainstream pedals, I'll buy more of them and soon :)

I used this pedal with several different amps.Jcm800,jc120,1971 mk2,vox ac-15ri,ampeg vt-40,new super reverb ri,tsl 100,mesa mk1V,marshall lead 12,bandmaster reverb,Budda30,twin reverb,hiwatt custom50R.
Guitar wise,strats,les paul standards,specials,junior,es335,es330,es295,rik360,tel 52ri,sg standard,parker fly,prs,ibanezjem,j200,tak,12string..
I have an Analogman dynacomp, maxon cp101?,keeley comp, and this FK-1..AS far as a stompbox comp goes this pedal was just as quiet,or as noisey as the other 3 I own and tested side by side..Like all the others it is noisey turned wide open with gain cranked. On the jc120 they were all pretty darn quiet. With the gain set at unity with full compression the FK-1 was quiet.IT adds a roundness to the signal.Hard to explain. The high end was very transparent. Not so with the Keeley,or maxon. The analogman rated fine here as well. It's easy to get a steeley Dan type comp sound, and cranked this pedal will sustain a note for days.It doesn't pulse or pump like the Keeley,Very smooth sustain..I did 3 live shows with these pedals last week, and 2 studio sessions..The FK-1 delivered like a champ. You have to try this comp with an acoustic.Set the trim full counterclockwise and play.It is wonderful.

Man I am a guitar player.Have been for over 40 years.
I play or have played it all..This fk-1 is now attached to my pedal board.Shit $125 compared to the others selling for 175up? It is right there. If you can't get a good sound out of this comp then you don't need to buy a stompbox comp.Or you just plain don't know what you are doing,or are one Anal SOB:-)
I would rate the comps I own in this order.Teese fk-1,Analogman dyna/ross,Maxon cp101,and Keeley last.Teese gets #1 for being $125.It is a Ross clone,it has an attack trim pot unlike the analogman or keeley.Don't confuse the Analogman dynaross with his Comprossor..That's a bad ass Comp.I put some white chicken head knobs on the Teese to help me see where it was set.Cost me $5I also would like to thank Geoffrey for the nice price tag..I'm sure this comp won't be for everyone, but then what is?

Two knobs is pretty simple though I would have like to see more useable tones out of the attack knob. Worked well both before and after distortion though it didn't really like 2 of my 4 boutique boost pedals and produced weird overtones when bending up around the 11-14th fret on the high E and B strings.

I tried it through a couple of old Marshall, a 65 Super Reverb, an a BF Champ with a variety of my guitars. With a tele I could get the chicken picken sound alright and the slight compression with a lester into a pumped marshall and made the amp sound louder and slightly. I found some unwanted noise was added in comparision to my Keeley and Barber (even my old Dynacomp was quieter on some settings). While it compressed the sound, IMO it didn't enhance the clean sound at all like the previous mentioned and it really didn't work on the dirty stuff. It was more Barber'ish but not as nice. I like my compressors to be either very transparent or nicely colored depending ont he need. The FK never quite acheived either sound for me.

I am a 25+ year pro musician and play many different genres of music. I bought this because I have tried just about any compressor produced in the search for the perfect pedal. For the price it is going for I figured it was certainly worth a go. It is a good value for the money and certainly better than many other pedals on the market (new and old) but it falls short of what my expectations were for the pedal. I would keep it as a backup but I already have too many compressors as it is. Kudo's to Teese for adding some competition to the market. Good pedal for $125.

I use a Custom Telecaster w/Callaham Guitar parts & an EC strat w/Callaham pre-wired pick guard. For amps I use various Victorias & a Matchless Clubman 35. I have to say comparing this unit next to the Analog.Man & Keeley Compressors, the FK-1 is the most quiet of the lot. Which is a huge turn on, especially when running multiple effects at once! All effects I play are of the Boutique ilk. They all seem to work well with the FK-1.

Geoffrey Tesse is one of the best guys to deal with in this business.
I have heard so many great stories from all of my friends who have delt with Teese direct. The guy stands behind his product 200% and then some. I have never had a problem with his Pic. Wah, but he has always gone out of his way to answer any questions that I had. Not everyone in this business will take the time out to talk to you. He does and that is fantastic!

There are four main reasons why I bought this unit:
1) I loved the aesthetics of this unit over its competition.
2) It is priced very reasonably at $125.00. That is almost a $100.00 difference between the FK-1 & the Keeley.
3) It is quieter than the Keeley & the Analog.Man.
4) It offers an Attack Knob feature, which is very cool.
