Easy as, although the fact that the knobs are on the side is probably the worst thing about the design, which just means to alter the parameters you need to look around the side of the unit. It is a hard life! Very smooth action of the volume pedal, very linear volume increase. Much easier to turn effect on/off than the old crybaby.
Oh, and it only takes a 1/8" stereo jack type power supply, but can easily be modded (see below).

Great. Super low noise in clean mode, providing an excellent performance as a standalone volume pedal. The drive is very creamy, can range from a full banshee scream on full drive and freq (tone), to a really crunchy blues tone when you roll these back.
I was "modifying" mine with a drill to mount an alternative power supply plug, and accidentally blasted the drill bit onto the pcb, annihilating one of the transistors! Despite this the pedal still works fine, though sounds a bit dirtier. So there you go.

Rock solid (see above, even an internal drilling couldn't stop it). Built like a tank and the optical expression pedal system is smooth as (no filthy jim dunlop style grease!).

Bloody good value (I picked up a 1995 ex demo model), filled a hole in my effects rig! Worth it's salt just as a volume pedal, but when you turn on the drive it can really howl. If it gets stale, jam a drill into it, haha!

Straight forward and simple. Volume, Range and Drive pots on the side of the pedal. The rocker expression pedal acts as overall volume pedal, with a toe-down by pass function as well.

G&L Legacy w/Fralins or Gibson 335 or Ibanez frankenstein wiht Duncan '59 and Texas Special >>>>> McIntyre 215 RC or TRaynor Mark III or Crate VC3112. This pedal sounds good with any combination of the above. I used it as much for the volume pedal as for the distortion. It is smooth and dependable in both modes.
Very simple to get good crunch with everything at 12 o'clock. Dime the drive and you're in "Les Paul pushing Marshall stack" country. Not an eclectic pedal - it does a few classic rock style distortions and it does them very well. Perfect for Led Zep style chords and lead, or with the frequency range down and drive up it gets very creamy distortion, ala Cream, Dickie Betts, Warren Haynes, etc.
Works well with both single and double coils, very edgy and tubelike at lower levels, and opens up nicely into fully saturated distortion for metal stuff. It reminds me of my old Big Muff, which I'm not crazy about, but if you dig that sound, this pedal is a solid, pleasing and cheap alternative.
The fact that it has a super smooth, quiet and precise volume pedal included is a bonus. In fact, it's worth it just for the optically controlled volume pedal.

Very solid, steel housing, super solid rocker pedal. No issues.

Never dealt with him. I've owned 3 George Dennis pedals and they're all VERY solid. I've heard he's an easy guy to get hold of and takes care of his customers, but this is hearsay as I've never had to contact him.

I have 3 volume pedals, and a number of distortion and o/d units, and a basement full of shmeg. I've owned dozens of pedals. This one holds its own against much higher priced units. Build quality seems outstanding for such a cheap pedal (new they fetch about $150 USD, used they're much cheaper.) A real bargain IMO. I'm old enough to remember learning Page licks when Zep IV came out, and this pedal always takes me back to Zep days of yore. It's great for that violiny Blackmore stuff on Machine Head too. Not exactly a Rangemaster into an old Major, but good enough for the price! Like I said before, the volume control is smooth and very satisfactory.
It's most like a Big Muff when pushed hard but without the middy mush. Does a nice heavy rock crunch. It can also do a high-mid bite like an old ProCo Rat. It's mainly for straight ahead classic rock - Free, Bad Company, Stones, ... I'm repeating myself...

This is a follow up report. This pedal sounds like shit when you lose battery power. It's still better than my Dan-Echo at this as it's still usable. Also it's digital, you can tell when you unplug it and it lets out a loud screch, which I sampled cause it is musical. I still love it though, the scooped mid is much better than my amps distortion. It's not a soft puppy it really has bite to it.

You must have Back up Batteries. The pedal itself is fine but I'll feel much better when I make that power supply for it.

The squek when you unplug is annoying, so's the way it eats batteries and sounds when they're half dead. other then that I love it. Great sound for me.

Basic plug and play. Three knobs: Distortion, Frequency, and Level as well as the foot pedal volume control. No manual, but none is needed as it's a standard distortion pedal.

I haven't used it with my Dan-Echo, Crybaby, or Mr. Multi (see review under Korg). I've been A/B-ing the pedal against my amps distortion (Peavey Classic Chorus 130) and it's been beatin' the hell out of it. Originally I needed a volume and portable distortion as my amp's a back breaker know I'm thinkin' of using as my main distortion. I saw this pedal at the branch daze special at my local music store and I fell in love with this demo. Volume pedal works in both modes and is silent when the diistortions off.

Well I've had it for maybe six hours now but it's a solid piece of work. No worries about scratchy dirty pots with optical control. I checked the reviews on all the George Dennis effects and all but one newer guitarist had only good things to say. More on this in a couple months.

I play Jazz, Blues, Rock, Alternative, and Metal. It works great for the last three and for the blues I have my Boss super overdrive. I love having a volume pedal as well. My only complaint is that the adapter jack isn't the same as the rest of my pedals.
I got a great deal, it was a demo so I got it for $69 rather than the $225 that was marked on the box. On Saturday I tried out all the pedals in the price range all cheap Ibanez sound tanks. This easily whooped them and blew my mind so I checked it out here and bought it on Monday.
Great sound and feel, I love it. I'm definitely going to be considering another George Dennis pedal when I get the money.
