This is not the single knob control of the MXR Phase 90 or EH Small Stone that a brain dead monkey on crack could operate, but it offers so much more control it's not even funny. No manual. Just plug in your guitar, and take a 30 minutes or so to find the settings you like. I've found settings that I like for clean and distorted that I only vary by changing the level control.
I would prefer the plugs to be at the top of the unit instead of well down the side. Made it awkward trying to find a place on my pedal board where it would fit.
Amp - 1995 Peavey Classic 50 Head into a custom 2 x 12 open back cabinet with an Eminence Legend 125 and a GB128 wired in parallel.
Effects - Amp input - Dunlop GCB-95 Crybaby Wah (Vocal mod), Danelectro Fab Tone distortion; Effects loop - Danelectro Dan Echo, George Dennis Phaser
I tried this Phaser in every possible location in the signal chain and found that placing it before the Echo in the loop did the trick. Before the distortion it actually was too much, even with the depth, feedback, and level controls cut well back. Placing it after the distortion and it became too subtle.
The sound quality is fantastic. I shopped and played every phaser I could get my hands on. Think Small Stone Reissue if you could put the color switch in the middle. Nice, warm phasing for clean appregiated passages, but can create that blistering distorted phasing sound the Phase 90 is famous for.
Probably the best trait of this phaser is that it is true bypass. It absolutely does not color the sound of the guitar at all. A true void when turned off.

This thing appears to be built like a tank. I love the footswitch and have not noticed the delay described by a previous reviewer.

I absolutely love this phaser. It gives me all of the sounds I ever need from a phaser in a rugged case that I don't have to worry about its thin-assed sheet metal getting bent because I had to take the damn thing apart to change the batteries (EH-SS lovers...take note). Not as deep as SS with the color switch up and the maximum speed is much slower than most current models today, but I was looking for a good phaser, not a uni-vibe.
I'd give the box a higher rating, but I don't like the placement of the plugs. They're so low on the box, it makes the unit cumbersome.
I play a mix of modern country, blues, and classic rock. This phaser fills a void I've been missing for quite awhile.

Mine was bought used. It is easy to use, and should be. I got no manual, but who cares?

I play it through a bunch of FX with a Tele, Tonemonger and EB/MM EVH througha Carr Slant 6V 2x12. It's not noisy at all, and the phasing is awesome. It's not totally unique or anything, but it's more of a perfect refinement of a great phasing sound reminiscient of early EVH. It's really transparent, doesn't have the siganl distortion and harshness of an MXR, has true bypass and has a good array of controls. This is the best phaser I've tried, and I have no need to look any further. I had tried the MXR, Boss, ADA Final Phase, Maxon, etc. This one is a keeper, for me. It's cheap, too. Many great sounds from this unit.

I think I can depend on it more than any other PCB (printed circuit board) pedal I've ever tried. It has a solid, low profile enclosure. The optical footswitch is new to me, though, so who knows how that will hold up? It's been great so far, and feels solid. The jacks are plastic, though, which I don't like. I will replace them with switchcraft since I know how to work on electronics. For the plastic jacks and uncertainty of road abuse on the optical footswitch I'll deduct one point. Does feel like a really solid unit, though.

Don't know about customer service. Haven't dealt with them. They're in the Czech republic, FWIW.

This is perfect for me. It gets anything from "Ain't talkin' 'bout love" to "Luckenbach, TX." to Alan Jackson songs. (Brent Mason's phase effects) I'd definitely buy it again if I lost it. The bottom line is that I make great music with it, and the price/performance ratio is great. Buy one if you like transparent, organic, no BS phaser sounds. It's worth it. It's more like a 10 than a 9, so I'll give it a 10 for overall.

i play a strat through an eq, about 5 other pedals, then to a marshall jcm 800. it makes virtually no noise, the overall tone is decent, i usually keep the depth knob cranked. the pedal itself doesnt have an incredible versatility but works fine for just a regular old phase effect either slow or fast. the thing i HATE, and im considering trading this pedal in because of it: when you step on the pedal, it cuts out for a mili-second before turning on. nothing drastic, but enough for me to have to constantly figure out the ideal point in a song that i could click it on without disrupting what im playing. i usually have to play with the bridge pickup to get that sick phase sound with the depth knob all the way at 10, still then it sounds sick, but not SICK like ive heard some other pedals do. in general the tone would get a rating of 7 or so if it wasnt for the pedal cutting out

i play space-ish indie rock sorta like built to spill or radiohead. i bought the pedal after i heard the phase in the Pearl Jam song "nothing as it seems." it replicates it pretty well. if it were stolen, id probably shop around for something else just because of it cutting out. its overall a decent box, not too expensive, worth the price. its been a key component of my sound for the past year, but i dont thinkn its the originality of the sound, i think its just because i like phase.
